a couple things to say regarding allocations and one of them dealt with the allocation for the high school pierced at some point getting compensated for the graduation and I understand that but the promotion part of our district weather Elementary or Middle School those teachers do that during their work day so my suggestion to you as the board would be in lieu of or it in terms of how the high school teachers get compensated for their three hours or whatever they work graduation I would suggest maybe you allocate something like five are dollars or some amount to each School site all the elementaries in the middle school and for those teachers who take an active role in the promotion if there are number of them that maybe you can have a lunch or something at the end of the day and so they could use that as kind of their acknowledgement maybe the PTA wants to do their acknowledgement at the same what time rather than have it little bit earlier and that might be kind of a little reward for putting together that promotion for those kids which item number location for promotions okay  and then the the other common I had was on Roman numeral 2 and that deals with the transition from 8th grade to the 9th grade I know that there were some students that didn't have that opportunity this summer to take that one week class or whatever it was and maybe we could add more sections or somehow accommodate all the eighth graders that want to be prepared for the 9th grade through that that orientation the program during the summer so just those two things thank you that item number has the consent agenda items which means you are going to approve all of them one time and it's basic in the Parliamentary procedure that items not on the agenda can be commented on and public recognition those which are on the agenda half he commented on at the appropriate time so at this time if something is pulled it's only for a matter of comment it doesn't mean that you can't continue to approve all the items on that on that consent agenda form that you have that's only a matter of allowing someone comment comment now you can go back and plentiful never there are them is why we recognition play for very special Community member Madeline Ehrlich and I'm going to just hand over real quickly to assistant superintendent Tracy Familia thank you vice president Allaire and it sounds like I'm getting some feedback here  I wonder if you turn with yours nope I'm going to switch can I have a buddy when I just come up to the front alright good evening vice-president Alara members of the board and cabinet and members of the community you know there's a reason that Madame Madeline Ehrlich is receiving ignition tonight from the Culver City Unified School District citizen who has immeasurably touch the lies and hearts of the students and families of Culver City Unified actually you'd be hard where to find an area of Civic life that Madeline hasn't touched it was the president of Love Iona PTA is served on the board of the sister city Committee in the 1980s he founded all seeing a need for the booster program committing a need for a booster program committed to increasing language learning Beyond the teachers Adele Marino literally founded a group in organization that provides cultural experiences an additional native language support for those students to languages and along those lines she found a school in Mexico and created a partnership that over the last thirty-six years provides a month volumes change program between elementary school children it was a founding member of the Culver City Foundation what's a year from the Culver City Chamber of Commerce and that was just in the 80s  let's go to the 90s show we she served on the Culver City Unified School District School Board and was instrumental and reopening El Marino school as a fully dedicated language immersion program she helped kick-start the Japanese immersion program and she helps start eevpa you definitely want Madeline on your side if you ever decide to run for local office I myself met Madelyn in 2007 when I became principal at El Marino I think she gave me a what a month before she walked over and introduced herself to me since that time she's been instrumental in bringing immersion education to the secondary setting was the strategic planning process for the ccusd dual-language programs it was an honor working with her at that time your guys the 40th anniversary calcium on language immersion with hundreds of attendees and an a list of presenters I have no idea yet to this day how she got Young Chow to come up to from San Diego Murphree and talk to us but she did  and actually I found out that was her second time organizing a national conference I was so impressed she was a coach here for the successful measure ee to support Culver City Schools all thank Madeline for that in case you didn't know she's a fierce filter and she has donated a number of Airlines to various projects in the latest one her current one going toward the Culver City Centennial project literally donated hundreds of pounds of closed people in Africa  you know she spends her Saturdays anybody who's on the Facebook on Culver City's face what's Paige knows that she collects brightly decorated lunches and Spencer Saturdays Distributing them to the homeless what I find so wonderful about Madeleine she raised her children she has her wonderful grandchildren and then she opened up her home recently raised her grand niece and nephew I'm doing a time and then recently this year she opened her home to a Culver City boy who recently lost his mother to cancer what time I think of Madeline she's a person who season needs he finds a way to fill it and often times she does it herself  so rattling off the partial list of Madeleine's many many contributions to the Culver City Community I think I may have understated the impact of all that she's done for us she hasn't just touched lives she's moved Mountains for her causes and for that I along with the rest of Culver City Unified School District and forever grateful thank you so much Madeline and for that I would love to just take a little bit of time and present a token of our appreciation to her husband her three children Paul Amy Heidi and Steve of an explanation if two words one over Pride award after school Community buttons Kaiser School also certificate of recognition and appreciation recognition of her tireless and steadfast dedication as a boy advocate for language learning Peter Franklin can we love at AOL.com my inbox hi Paul are you wanted to say thank you the bottom of our hearts it's been alive worked tirelessly for for the school district for many years some people here I don't know what the what Madeline status is and I'm just going to give you a very brief outline she could not be here tonight because she is Hospice of let me let me give you just a brief rundown how months ago this sucks Edwin doesn't smoke doesn't drink occasional wine of using the yoga she's a marathon runner she claimed Master P Tru I mean terrific Health she went to the doctor and she had all the tell you of the normal test the blood in the urine excetera cetera and you came across the flying colors less than 2 months ago we were in Chicago and the in Chicago at her alumni assoc her annual Alumni Association luncheon and she got up one morning with a look at the mirror and she didn't like what she saw her necklace was swollen swollen neck could be a lot of different things it could be are typically that means you have a infection more bacteria of virus something when we got back she went to the doctor and one test turn one referral led to another and Wanda 4th and in collagist to us frankly alarm and on Memorial Day sign in for chemotherapy and she had a cocktail of five Kimo's and the biopsy showed that she had an aggressive form of lymphoma and she took those for 6 days rated Kaiser never left her hospital room and play soft it out here or anybody's familiar with chemo it's at it's a tough tough road to hoe then she to follow up of the following week  with her doctor and he got the bad news what's the results of the biopsy was not only did she have lymphoma but she had leukemia as well  and they said well there's one chance in we're going to tough it out and buy three more chemicals and see if that would work Inn at 11 at night 3rd and B treatment and they gave her and they said that the downside of it is set the side effects are really tough I mean you think it's was stuff before it's really tough now and she started at 11 at night  side effects or just too much for her and with her daughters fare and the Hemo nurse  they said she just side effects are just too much end at 1 in the morning emo stopped  so she's at home right now with her children this you're thankful for this award and our Commendation or pair of Comedy since yesterday 24 hours ago we had another one from the city of Culver and I got up there and basically gave the same speech just let we have a little different audience between the city and the schools strict put so many people in Culver City know but some people don't  The Purge positive news is Fanta a week ago all six of our children were home together at the same time  anyway with that I certainly appreciate that in in the name Star Family in the end of Madeline thank you have a good evening thank you Paul before I handed over to other board members I know we have a speaker cards on this site would you like to have your comments now and  yeah and I met now in because the school board and as many of you know she walked play our schools for the bond or all the elections and even name  I'm done I've been over to your house for so many different whatever's political school-related whatever stunning to me  she really is the epitome like she walked up the come down and I could keep up with her but I came up to but I came up to say is that she really stood for like whenever I watched her walking and she always walked ahead of me I can left with her  she really is true inspiration of Civic engagement like for people who go around and say you complain about what's going on in the world actually went out and did things that I can make a difference in my own neighborhood and I was I would watch her and just say I hope I have that kind of energy that she has whatever age you mean and her for 10 years  you know that I have that kind of energy do what she did what time  that's all I wanted to say thank you for letting me speak thank you Joy okay boy members why didn't have the pleasure of meeting Madeline as early as many of you he was one of the first people that reach out to me after my appointment and every conversation of with her has been a little lesson reminding me of why I'm here why we do what we do and in meeting her I didn't know the long list of things that she John because  she has such humility and had I known all that she had done I might have been a little bit apprehensive to to talk to her probably would have felt like she has way over my head and Anna but she she didn't treat me that way she spoke to me and with such kindness and warmth and encouragement and I'm really grateful for meeting her even if I didn't meet her as early as I wish play could have now but I'm grateful for her dedication to this community at large and and for everything she's done for my children even before I got a chance get her a new who she wasn't and I pray strength for your family and for your encouragement and  free YouTube have the strength to continue  in the in the time that you have  so you don't have a lengthy relationship with Madeline and I didn't have the Good Fortune of having a really intimate personal relationship with but I can speak personally from this seat where I like the impact that she has had on this test nekton on the board in an ongoing ways very palpable really all the time and her name comes up regularly and it's very much a reminder of that we are here standing on the shoulders of our foremothers right and she's our for mother and we are carrying on Turner vision and we are totally committed to do so and I really I really hope that she knows that you know that we're here to absolutely what hands in the name of Madeline Ehrlich and continue fighting the good fight for the programs that she bought brought into being and as really champions for decades babe are you Fable 2 daddy doodle are the fees at all but I will say that the only thing about that is love  do the right thing and  how to figure out what's the right thing and you need help with that and all the energy that I always felt like whatever it took to make sure the you got the right thing done for kids or the homeless or anybody in our community battling would be there or not find the way to make that happen for everything that you've done for a community that out there thank you thanks Steve  so I'm I am neighbors I live around the street from Madeline and as most of you know Ellen is super shy and she when I might kids El Marino and when I was a new parent she basically was just like a mad and that's how we got to know each other and she was just just such an amazing energy and I think the the descriptions are one is give so right on a fierce opponent advocate of Civic engagement and like she just walked you know the talk and she did it and she wouldn't let you not do it and there were times we volunteered together and we worked on local elections but also paired up and to volunteer for national elections and if there was ever an ounce where time where I said I think I'm going to go on Saturday I'll pick you up at 12 it wasn't a thing or maybe I'll pick you up at 12 and we'll go only beef with Madeline if you're up you when you can hear this is that I many times after to adopt me she would not that she had to sheds and I didn't believe her but that's my only issue I'm going to read now a statement from board president Kathy pass Palace who emailed this in Madeline is not marry one of our former board colleagues Madeline a set the standard for fierce advocacy of public education acral access to Social Service as if I can gagement she is a model to which we should all Aspire though few will ever have the energy to termination or Spirit to match hers Milan is like a force of nature bundle of high-energy happy smiling generous giving positive with her finger on the pulse of what's happening in Culver City and Beyond never afraid to give you her opinion at Great length and sometimes unsolicited as a current School Board member I appreciate Madeline's Fierce dedication to our Public Schools turn Culver City and of course to the dual immersion language program she helped found and nurture many years ago in the early 2010s we got some funding to really work on improving the immersion programs in a serious way I served on the strategic planning committee as a board member malam was there as one of the community Representatives but of course she was much more than that she held historic and institutional memory of the program which informed where we come from and she was so passionate and knowledgeable about where we need to go as well her presence was invaluable and I say that without an ounce of hyperbole this is just one small example of her contributions to our community she was also involved with on my twins personally Madeline and Paul help with my first campaign for school born 2009 and again with my real ection 2013 as well as with Arbonne campaign in 2014 those are just the three campaigns I was most directly involved with their involvement politically was constant and included Paul working and phone banking for the presidential elections for my family more personally when my kids were younger and I had a board meeting I knew I could count on Madeline's help with babysitting as my kids got older and Austin came into the picture of Madeline and Paul what often connected with the wise youth in government program which my kids were deeply involved with and they all became friends Madeline's enthusiasm for and joy and pride in Austin's teeth and accomplishments were boundless at our boundless and the same can be said for three older children only one of them I know personally Amy Oliver children are source of great I'd enjoy home she was happy to talk about but never in that oversharing way you seek to avoid of course if you know Madeline you know she was always happy to talk at planes about whatever subject was on her mind sometimes with the finger-wagging to make her Point more strongly Madeline always seem passionate about everything from the important news of the day the mundane was always quick to volunteer to bake some brownies for school function or a happy hour party let me know backyard to pick plums or grapefruit or take charge of Distributing go on signs during campaign season is hard to capture and distill Madeleine's impact it seems like she managed to be everywhere as I said at the beginning she's a force of Nature and perhaps most importantly I'm so glad to have her as a friend that was some Kathy early family I am Heidi on The Middle I have and I don't even know if I just wanted to reiterate this recognition of my mom last night we were here with the city counseling it was a wonderful Commendation and and a lot of people came and we really really appreciate it and some ways I think this award tonight is actually equally if him in my opinion more special because everyone who knows my mom has the education was the most RN subject and topic that she was most passionate about and you know when we were in high school she was the president of the school board and you know it turn on still talks about the school board in this in this school and that's cool she's heavily still involved in everything I said mom we graduated why are you still acting tell mine and my mom's my mom's passion for Education wasn't just because of us it was for the future of the kids of Culver City but also is an example for other school districts around the country and so for me to recognition means a lot so I just wanted to adjust spray to write my appreciation for the board I'm free what are the words to thank you so much okay now we're I live on 28 public recognition  and to possibly the superintendent's report evening one thing to the early family really quickly I remember sitting in board meetings when we had the board meetings always at the school district office sitting in the audience and I had to be in the audience to hear what was going on and I remember your mom coming to the podium and I'm thankful poor little lady you know she would come to the podium and she would shake her finger if some that the board members weren't doing the right thing and she will call she would call him on it and they were just kind of you don't be Frozen like oh my gosh you know she's she's mad I thought to myself I never want her to be pissed off at me because she really she not only spoke her mind but she always had children in mind and she always had what was best for children in mind if she felt that any what time board member or any practice was going off of that path she called didn't waste time and so your mom is a fighter and I think that those she is in hospice I'm sure she is fighting every single minute of the day and that is something to be proud of me not you know we all have the mama bear in us but your mom really has it in her and so I you know my prayers are with your family but I know that she's fighting with it I want to also say to the school board thank you for this opportunity it has been fun ?! But everyone has been very supportive and very helpful so I really shaded it is it is a blessing to be able to serve as interim superintendent for a school district in a city that I love I'm I've been having really productive meetings with our administrators and our directors I love working with Tracy and because we've had some great meetings and planning you know trying to get through summer and figuring out getting of the school year so that's been great our summer programs are underway you know I used to think that summer was a time to just kind of relax but now we're hiring right we're getting things going on the Adult School summer classes are booming Veronica and her team are at Farragut at the middle school ELD programs that I'm sure that Tracy will talk about those we have Academy classes and we just have a lot going on at all of our campuses the high school just completed the first round of boot camp classes in SAT prep we look forward to those opportunity expanding as a parent of a student in the boot camp when my son came home and said I love AP language I was like that was a beautiful thing cuz I should have taped it to remind him of that every day next year that he said that but I guess I'll just replay with taping now so I hope that we can expand those those offerings next year and maybe look at something like a college prep an essay prep class sing that would be really important to add that on as well or summer lunch program is going really well we're serving between 240 - 260 suit students per day next excellent and we appreciate all the community entities that are helping out with the program Culver City Police Department I think her own Culver City turn football players and healthy can also and that they have workshops are going to offer the dairy Council Jules Stein Eye Institute with different eye exams so and and also thank you we have a new thing this year which is our farmers market and so thanks Culver City needs committee for putting that together I look forward to going tomorrow and seeing it's at on Wednesdays well wrecked there's a lot going on in everything is positive everything is good thank you  Tracy yep yes I'd like to reiterate interim superintendent Lockhart's a sentiments that we are busy in at Services right now it's been wonderful to see the expansion of the this summer program for English Learners Elementary English Learners are at La bayona and this year for first time we were able to offer a extended day for those students for whom those parents were not unable to add end summer school before because of its shortened day and so I'm you can imagine as a working parent if you have your offered 3 hours of our school but then you have nothing to know where to go afterwards it's extremely difficult for a parent to accept that offer so this year we were able to work with the office of Child Development to offer child care for those students in the summer program said they attend the morning classes with our teachers and then after the summer lunch program they are able to stay on campus for an additional 3 hours so that's been a wonderful expansion of the are Grant and we've been really working through some of the little kinks and things like that is this is our first year in that it with that offering but overall it's been extremely positive can I have to publicly give my unending appreciation to Claudia Benitez or ELD specialist who has taken on the role of of running the summer school program for their English Learners I also wanted to continue with the idea of busyness art directors and I attended a framework Institute covering the English language arts in English language development from framework from West which is a which is a a group out there research group that provides professional development for for administrator teachers it was a wonderful Institute really focusing on a framework of teaching and learning that really allow students to make meaning from content so as we move forward we will be sending additional site administrators to engage in it's a three-day Institute with a fourth day of of a leadership planning and so we have a number 10 more administrators attending in August so that have a pretty good cohort of site leaders to be able to move forward with our implementation of a of a framework rollout for English language development in English which art this is all in direct response to our needs in English language development and ensuring that our students are making progress both in English language development as man correspondingly in in the content areas and making sure that they have high comprehension in English so that's going to be a very big Focus have our teaching and learning efforts in the coming year I also on a little bit of a happier note getting really close to finalizing our plans for the Centennial art project and I will be meeting with several of the teachers this to pick pick option ABC or day and I this project is made possible by a generous donation turn farm from Janice Cobra and the Sony since any pictures and it is going to be an art installation somewhere on the middle school campus is a a work of art from all of the elementary school so we're going to be inviting elementary students to participate and work apps to produce art that will then come together into One Singular installation at the middle school so we're really excited about that idea of all students coming to one as they continue on in Culver City at our administrators are attending two days of coaching training either this week or in September and this is also in our efforts for administrators to um see themselves as not just evaluate respect coaches in in teaching practice and so learning how to work with instruction and work with planning on collaborating with teachers further their instructional practices so that's been a really that will be another focus of our moving going forward is really engaging teachers and administrators in in a practice of of teaching and so the word practice is going to be coming up a lot because just as we practice to be better drivers my daughter just got her driver's license today we always practice to be better at practitioners and whatever we do so we'll we'll be working on that more and finally I would like to really acknowledge and recognize the wonderful contributions from CSI executive director Leslie Adler who recently announced to the donors that she will be stepping down as exec director and will be serving to until August in order to assure effective transition but my work with Leslie over the last year has really shown how the exact Dedication that she has to our schools and all that does I'm from securing funding for arts and gardens and major donors to just working on the tribute to the stores for the picture of the Year celebration the classified employee of the year and volunteers of the year she is has been such a force and I look forward to knowing what she plans to do with some our time and working with being with her family and things like that but I do wish her the best alright mr. Reynolds do you have your tape  Torrid it there we go I'd like to thank Sean Kearney and his staff for working so hard and putting together our budget for this current year or the coming year they they they doing a magnificent job on the spend hours and hours working through the numbers and where please able to file A+ certification this evening on that we will be able to meet our financial obligations for the next three years a lot of school districts are are so lucky  in addition we're working diligently on reducing our current deficit with the goal of restoring a balanced budget call within the next two to three years as well very importantly I'm also under Chris's guidance removing a head with Arbonne 6 route the district it's an incredibly massive undertaking there's 50 projects just in our summer projects but continues to show the kind of leadership that makes things come together in a successful way so thank you Chris 8.4 members of the audience I think we already went through all the cards we have anyone one submit one that would be your time times up and now we're two members of the you no not at all  I just wanted to thank the board for all the work you've been doing the past couple months I know it hasn't been and to welcome you really love that you're here in this capacity right because you are part of Culver City been here for ever and I see you Ralph's all the time and you know it's it's Greg out of my life grocery shopping in Walking Culver City but now I just wanted to thank you and thank everyone for all the work because it's horrendous and can imagine the transition but just know that you have our support the board has our support and so many parents out here who are just rooting for you so please let us know how we can help thank you  is a continuation cards I'm nothing better to do so I have to do these kinds of things in terms of the transition from in the superintendent's position I would just like to mention that we had a similar situation a few years ago and we had a extensive search what cost quite a bit of money to do that and Alternate Lee we ended up with our assistant superintendent becoming our superintendent and so Patty Jaffe became the actual superintendent after we did and paid whatever amount of money so I'm only suggesting that in this session  and I have no idea what all the decision was about other than if there is additional funding that's going to have to be paid for the transition to the previous superintendent plus the search for a new superintendent it would make sense to me from a business standpoint the one the first things it would often is the top two to as Lockhart and see if she's interested in that position on a permanent basis and if she were to do some type of luminary discussion and or maybe even a formal interview before we start looking and in all parts of the world find a superintendent that comes in and and takes the position if in fact we have that superintendent sitting here with this currently so maybe we can keep a mind and I understand all the parameters and all the legal aspects to what that means but I'm sure some of that can be ferreted out the second part of that is that in this search and in this transition phase it seems to me there's a lot of positive things that we can learn from things that have open in the last year and I hope that we take those positive things and move them forward in many ways of the fousey as the audio visual the media all those things that I in the old school could never Envision know that they made a super impact on our young people what I saw happening in crowds at. football games at football games at volleyball games all the things that happening out on the fields and and I'm sure absolutely in the classroom may have an impact in and saw as we go forward let's not lose sight of those positive things in every situation there's got to be a positive you can take away and I think we can do that able to communicate and for Mike and Shaun because I send out some questions that are you off the wall things that I'm sure they have better time to to deal with things that you need rather than me but one of the things that I talked to Chris about was the training in which is going to be backlogged a little bit not come about 4 before the beginning of the school year but I know there's a there's a plan to take care of that I just want to make sure that that becomes a top-notch top-of-the-line facility for mr. white and those who follow him because I think that's important to the physical and the and the cycle magical issues that are young people deal with not just athletically but all the things that go along with that in the health classes and and in all those things that those kids in terms of preparing themselves for a possible  medical professions some of them have gone into please make that in mind and so in terms of all of that I guess I just like to finish up with saying that the air look family is very important to the will District you know that I sent out an email to you some time ago and suggested and will again suggest that their Beast very strong and maybe they're all yes I have no idea strong consideration for the fact that with El Marino and what you did there and how its it has transition to LA bayona and maybe further and beyond that there would absolutely be a logical step in saying that some aspect of the school district needs to be it say it in this way but realized for Madeline and that maybe a classroom or a learning lab language lab a facility can be named in her honor I think that's important I think that would be extremely important I know that many of the people in our community today don't know what happened in the 90s as much as turn it around but when they said she was on the school board it was more than that that was a real Financial time in California where money was real tight and that school board had to deal with lots of issues that thank goodness you're not having to deal with as significantly as they did them with cutting jobs cutting Pro and doing that she was a fighter for kids and and so I think that that consideration could be made by us in our in our school district some thank you very much thank you  Kelly actually I'm just going to make one comment I don't have a long list of recently attended events so I'll just keep it simple although reachable of kind of stole my flare butt  because you know what time of transition I want keeps calling a transition but yes it's transition it's a big it's we've been through some some intense transition we are currently experiencing an intense transition and we would be remiss not talk about it it's been it's been it's been a tremendous undertaking for all of us it's so so we all are feeling what a big deal it is and I think where I'm at right this moment was stated well by mr. chabala that even in times of duress we really have gifts in those moments like they're there they are there and many of them we're just stated right like there are so many lessons learned about where District needed to make improvements and they are now very clearly laid out for us and we have fabulous ideas about how to ask get them and we have a little experience under our belt about how to execute them and we know all the names for them I'm not saying there aren't other things that we send discover about where we fall short but we you know we made some discoveries about some things that the community needed from us that we didn't know necessarily and now we know and so the good news is we have them we know what to call them and we actually have ideas more already talking about immediate next steps that chicken to commit to those from here forward we hear it loud and clear and we agree 100% about the lessons that we learned and we what can go with them we're talking about media were talking about responsiveness we're talking about availability visibility commitment to our Pro Sam's in the forays and Athletics and the Arts and the activities and the academics and being there and being present and so we're really proud to be able to does on ourselves now and move forward with them as ccusd and with Culver pride and that Anna how much transition we have been given another gift and that is assistant superintendent interim suprem super in Planet Leslie Lockhart right so this woman is Culver City through and through and so in a time of shakiness to be given stability right away in the form of someone whose kids go here someone who lives here someone who's been principal assistant principal all these other things been through the ranks been through other times turbulence  and seen the light at the end of the tunnel and guided her staff to that light we are in such good hands and I am really grateful to be able to call you or intent thank you repeat twice what's already been said but I do Echo and appreciate mr. Chu Bolas comments as well as I'm Kelly's and I want to thank Leslie and the cabinet for working together so collaboratively and so effortlessly it appears to keep our district driving through this transition and so many in our community don't know how much work it goes into cold laboring and keeping things running and and I just appreciate you I also appreciate Rebecca who kind of doesn't give mention sometimes but I really do appreciate the work that you do at the district while we're sort of on vacation with RV for the most part in then popping in for these meetings and reading things but I also want to Echo what they said and say that you know I love this District because of what it stands for and what it has demonstrated to me and my family for the nine years that we've been in this in the school district and I know that see the course of the events that have taken place over the last few weeks it's evident that  this is bigger than one person this is bigger neck group of people it's really bigger than all of us and it's about the students who have been here the students that are here now and the students that have yet to come through trials you can see if you're looking you can see opportunities for improvement and the sign of a good organization is one that looks at every obstacle every failure every difficulty as an opportunity to improve and say what can we do better what will we do better and how much does it mean to us and the evidence of what is important to us is where we spend our time where we spend our money and what we hold truth too and so true too and I'm and I am great who are the core values of this District we may not always agree on policy or procedure but at the center of what's important to us are the children and and I'm grateful to that thank you  hey Steve  T-Mobile phone that I'm just going to Greenwood everything that just was just said I apologize as well for making people do I like to work to join the end and thank you for trying to make that happen I'm here in Washington DC teaching science to teachers so at least it's in a good time end of the night for us to reflect on the changes in and  also ask ourselves you know what Madeline would say going to learn from the changes will Define will get through all of the things that are going on now we have steady leadership we have everybody has shared gold and they're good goals and I think we'll make it through and we'll do a good job and I'm going to leave this app thanks Steve I will just say ditto to my fellow board members said thank you so much to the executive cabinet Rebecca and I run the district off really just charging through but just charging through also with no positive attitudes it's been great as a board to to feel like how early you know collaborating and trusting in one another so that's wonderful no real activity for me to report out other than the foundation has ask me to just give a recognition and shout out to the major donors they will recognize them in the future but also for the for the minutes they want this on there these are the major donors and just so you have an idea to 10 - lacrosse the one issue I know of they had one coaching position that was paid for by the school district and there was nothing on here that says assistant coach because I had one team but the only had one team and had a large number of kids on that team if they had had a JV team or a second-team there was no way said it could be paid because there's nothing on here that says girls assistant coach my recommendation would be that somewhere on here since you're approving this by the way this is a certificated  this is a certificated schedule there's nothing in it were Ace has anything on his no for Walk-On's which I've said the number of times over the past so this is the only schedule you have so I would recommend that all CIF sanction Sports in the Blue Book there's a list of them things like surfing or things like rugby or badminton that we don't offer which is fine but if some point some kids get enough people together and they decide to offer it there's nothing here then it has to go back to negotiations on so I would list even without any numbers next to it I would list all those Sports in addition I would pair this up with what's happening at the middle school if we're going to continue to promote the Middle School athletic program and activities not just Athletics I think there's lots of things happening there as well I think that would be parallel type of schedules so if you're going to offer football at the high school and you have flag football at the middle school and maybe all those Sports and going down the list although sports are offered as well what happens if a sport is added next year at the middle school nothing here that suggests that there could be a stipend for that particular and maybe there's enough kids now that want to play that sporting enough interest to do that some of that to my suggestion I think that in terms of this tell that it was my understanding there was going to be one athletic director for the whole district and there's there's a Middle School athletic director stipend and I'm sure there's a reason for that so if you have one athletic director district-wide then I think that that consideration should be made here financially as as now has has basically overseeing high school and middle school that he has teaching technically I think other than one. Teaching assignment responsibilities as to clerical people that makes sense to me that he would be compensated more than just for one stipend in addition to his regular salary so some some things for you to contemplate or at least negotiate in the now we didn't start timing you cuz I'm very sorry I thought time today I've been a mess on the timer I know this is a new function for me so far you get it now all of these are all of these suggested what happen when we put together the block amount of money some years ago it was asked of me could you sustain the athletic RAM on ate a certain amount of money and it was $200,000 at that time it is since increased and I said yes we could cuz I the numbers I knew that we were under 200,000 so that would accommodate so it seems to me that the the concept that that time was there would be some flexibility tell if a program gets larger and needs more coaches you could add them or if it program starts to decrease at 1 year you don't need as many coaches there then you can makeup from one in and get to the other maybe that's not the concept anymore but if it's not then I suggest that you consider gender equity Title 9 issues in the schedule when you look at it and that you also consider that if anything is going to be added in the next couple of years that it would already be here so it doesn't have to be renegotiated at some future date but this is what you have now and so maybe that's something for the future I think the avpa is another example what at the beginning of the abpa was misunderstood there were two directors and instead of saying the two stipends would or the stipend be equally pull up they took that number and gave it to you one of them so they basically got twice as much as was intended so now you have all kinds of different things happening there additional people that they hire or at least bring in through the academy and their booster club and maybe those kinds of things need to be realized in a schedule such as this that's all I'm saying is try and think of everything that you do even if it's brought in kind of from the outside because it's some point maybe just become a district are supported after this not supported but financially supported position so they have their issues as well Middle School avpa athletic department Department chairs and so on and I also think the one last thing I will say Genesis it's nice what we do for the middle school but those guys work pretty hard and I think 900 in whatever about 950 or $975 is not enough tell me as we go forward and I know the Sorrento's already saying which we want to cut but that's an area I think is very important so thank you thank you searchable and I saw interim superintendent Lockhart taking notes so I think that we thought your comments were heard so but I'll move to approve 15:1 and discussion okay all those in favor 15 - 15.2 is the submission of the up-to-date classified contract with all and thank you to leshan Raeford for play all of the work to get it all up to date so moved  discussion all those in favor we are now at adjournment the time Berlin yes I was going to move to adjourn it with a special honor of Madeline harelik  Kelly all those in favor we are adjourned Q
