I want to acknowledge our presents on the traditional answer Anansi the territory of the kitchen songs with people who are the original caretakers of this land thank you the board took no actions in closed session so there's nothing to report out I don't believe we have a public hearing so the next item would be can I have a motion to adopt the agenda Dubai Miss McBride I can buy Miss Amezola any discussion all those in favor say aye the generator started next would-be consent agenda does anybody have anything on the consent agenda that items 6.2 to 6.7 to be discussed yeah I'm sorry I'm trying to get on the zoom so multitasking and it's preventing me from be efficient right now probably it's it's thank you I was going to feel the same all those in favor say aye I just would love for it to be elevated I'm just for the community to hear because it is a really great program we're going to have even more their support so I would love if someone from staff could just highlight what this partnership means just increased partnership for strengthened partnership means for a community thank you Miss bright if I could be permitted to share some of the the larger objectives so we've been talking about what should are some of those witches have some the services be in place prior to our students particularly in the in the High School in the high school years to have a safe place for their social emotional well-being as well as their their sense of belonging in addition to what we have our counseling staff so this is a first I guess system watch that to bring in a team of well-trained certificated and certified counseling team addressing the building relationship and trust and and safe places for we will begin Irving Middle School and High School for this year and the team is already spinning up we collaborating with our site leaders both the out the middle and high school leadership we brought in I think we met times already and vetting out of the existing capability of the schools as well as trying to identify the first priority group of students that we can begin servicing in and brought sketch we would to have the identify students who needing or demonstrated reason to need help to have at least once once a week one-on-one counseling getting in touch working without without special in with the new Earth and connecting the services with the existing counseling at the school site building up a database to link up all of what we've done we've shared with obviously with the Privacy concern protected so that we can link up without without parents and I'll stop in and out of sight L the initial goal is to spend up to about 150 about 6 7th and 8th grade students and about 250 about high school tunes for the day 1 building up the following year we would like to expand that to include in addition to the the 404 hour for a paid sick days and nights while we would add another 400 students for the elementary school as well so at any given time to three years out the line about 10% of students will receive maintained and sustained a counseling and the abbreviation ship trust-building support and that's it I'll bet that's where the the new Earth is is coming in to support that program any further discussion so thank you for presentation and if I may just another piece of the contacts visit the relationship with new Earth has been long-standing mostly with the city and through the county where they are supporting our students in people providing diversion which is a means of preventing young people and students from getting into the pipeline to prison and any sort of control system by asking the police to if they interact with minor on the street to call New Earth and the new Earth arrives to the street and handles the situation and unless it's criminal is able to divert. Young person completely away from the system as we say and so this articulation of our relationship with them through our campus activity is just an incredible you know blossoming of the relationship that I'm grateful for and looking forward to and I am wondering if the details have been started yet and and they're going to be at present on our campus right now there's one course that is a class actually being looked at an end and collaboration between outside leaders and new earth so there could be a class being offered to be part of students program on campus in addition to that I don't know yet if we have the facility needed yet but whatever we will need newer that will work with us to see if the services will be provided either on campus or in a after-school format in some somewhere where it's located in the city it's not the right next to us and so I just want to express my emphasis toward favoring either on campus or at the vendee for at City Hall for which they have also offered their sort by city hall in the city has also offered a space for counseling in the past and I imagine that this could fall into that category. I just want to be sure that we make it as accessible as possible and ideally on cam although maybe maybe I'm not to say maybe it's not for me to say what's ideal but I would like it I'd like us to consider accessibility and they they do note at the end of the contract that this does include facilities expenses so I just wonder what means in terms of the space that will end up using yes I'd let me let me work it out team to explore all the possibilities that we can tap into the the linkage between the vending machine for sale Skip and hop away from a facility and and we'll tap into any kind of available resources without having to make it inconvenient for us soon sulu's instructional minutes and Counting minutes due to traffic sand and transportation and this entire process and project is now under dr. Jennifer Smith to support the school sites to carry this out and you won you too and hopefully in the years to come those are my questions thank you I am so so grateful for this contract from the first time I met when you are as I knew that this was the path for our students to move forward and to continue stepping into their genius and I think for me I'm really really grateful for what you just stated that dr. Jennifer Smith is going to be I mean our students and she's going to be managing this this program because I do think that this is an equity issue right were under serving student and that this is a great way for us to apply Equity right resources to those students who need resources the second thing is as I mentioned before that there is a Kyurem class is that the class that you were bringing up that I don't have that information with me but there is a class being discussed between outside principal and her team to make sure that this is something that we could built into the scheduling about soon to the Atlee it's on the contract I didn't I didn't get that information there's one there yeah but it's it's described in the contract if it's not Chiron I would love for the consideration of new Earth training that. Visors that Chiron strain because I do believe that we need to build infrastructure within our schools and I know intimately this program because my daughter was a teen peer mentor and she often talked about the beautiful relationship with with her and her minty and how she wished she could support her team more and she just lacked skills I would love to just formally asked if there's a possibility to consider supporting the peer mentors that are doing great work and would love to support thank you we should team of the high school in and the district will look into that as well look at it after all that I feel like I should come meant as well not to take anything away from Newark cuz I think they're great and I also have to talk with people there and see me what they can do a it's not a Panacea that's going to solve everything this is just an additional thing we can do that will help and be I don't want to take away from any even things that are also already being done at the High cool in middle school and you can people working and not a replacement for something and I'm really happy we're doing it just want to make sure that the appraisal doesn't need anybody who's not familiar to think that it's we weren't doing anything and now we're doing something we are adding something really bad with that we ready for love all those in favor say aye and we are up to Awards recognition and presentations and we have a happy presentation to do for a couple of high school graduates who unfortunately have to miss the ceremony pandemic what I suggest is board members let's go down in front dr. Lisa Cooper principal Culver City High and I am honored to be here tonight to offer this opportunity for class of 2022 graduates to hear their name and I'll cross the stage receive your diploma have your family and friends cheer and celebrate you tonight so I can have my graduates please stand up our first graduate is limb of it and they are our next graduate is James Leonard all right so graduate James hold on one second how official and please turn your tassel from right to left the family asked when they came over here to go can we cheer we can just give a quick lube just for family to take pictures please and we can have you one by one or we can start together and then we can have you one by one please family takes pictures you can come up please please Auto Parts on 25th and 5th Avenue okay then let's move on to public recognition starting with members of the audience this is the time to comment on items that are not on the agenda do we have anybody in the yard who wants to speak or anybody on Zoom there's nobody not seeing any comments from the audience either which takes us to item 8.3 sccsd employee groups we usually start with Aces mid Tammy on Zoom I don't see her in the room I don't see her okay is there anybody here who want to speak on behalf of ace then let's move on to ctfd is there anybody in the rumor online who wants to speak on behalf of 60 ft okay then we're onto item 8.4 superintendent's report thank you thank you president love and I wish you take a minute to addressed a rare opportunity for our Labor Management initiative a team that I mean an effort that I think we should introduce her District probably five or six years why I don't have the exact but we had the chance to invite nineteen members of our about out of my about partnership leadership to to come to San Diego for a two nights and three days training a review in building and it was it was it was a very productive cave kind of a talking about us being a way that we can get the better we are working together that's adults the better it is for us to be wrapped around the services needed for them so I'm I'm planning to expand that service into the next few months and bringing a kind of opportunity for our entire District to participate in something that we can bring team members of the alumni group to come to the district to work with us and so for more information before coming and I like to hear the minute a few minutes to stand for the backs of your dress the the opening of summer school if she what update us on that sure thank you for the opportunity to speak about summer school and the robust programs that we have across tcusd students are enrolled at the high school in summer boot camps and enrolled in courses to prepare them at the middle school for high school the elementary school we have an English learner Academy we have a bridging Academy at El Rincon have esy at Linwood how we have a lot of opportunities for students across the district and because we are able to work so closely together we have families that have reached out and have asked for more and different opportunities and we've been able to connect families with programs also through the adult school we have SE 4K which is never admit program so we have lots of different offerings to meet I accommodate different students family's needs thank you thank you we could have dr. Smith share with us some of the debris luminary work in terms of digging deeper into the inclusion model that we discussed in any other related topic she would care to share an update the board good evening and thank you for the the opportunity I was making notes and notes all over the place we have such a leaving work ahead of us to do I'm still working with dr. Fannin and the special education department as we can you do look at this AR for inclusive practices but more importantly drafting inclusive practices practices plan for review we're looking at and it was some questions after the last board meeting in terms of inclusion and inclusion for all inclusion for students with special needs are we staying in Clewiston for all cuz it's not including fraud and then students with special needs this is inclusion for all so weird we're deep into into that work we had our last meeting with the equity advisory Council. Source document share has been an amazing thought partner and contributor and just to navigate through and said we're feeling that information looking at plans for 22 23 which include starting to rewrite the equity plan for the next three years it expires next year I also have the chance to attend the Labor Management initiative group last week and it was an amazing app Kennedy to network to learn about tools and protocols that will help streamline our work and so more definitely more to follow I want to give a plug to our pride ride-on on Sunday we had an amazing turnout our superintendent our board members were there and I was able to ride as much as I could but it was an amazing Opera pretty two to show off and be proud of all aspects of our community thank you thank you if I could ask Mister Quinn to share a little bit about their facility to preparing for the Tek cave program and as far as all other than maintenance work that is being done to this one and anything else it must have been going to update you guys a lot of board agenda items and business services tonight we're approving the part of the design and layout plans of adding Tek classrooms that teach elementary site so that's going to be a big point of conversation going forward and probably from many meetings at many other get-togethers as we go through those plans are facility work there's a not going on this summer the lovely on a kitchen is being repaired the lava on a water damage is being worked on the painting going on in deep cleaning and all that kind of stuff is going on across the district a lot of its standard and a lot of it extra stuff we're doing this year I did want to share that the state has a final budget finally we announced it and it was yesterday or today it's a lot of good news it's not quite what we were expecting in a certain few ways but it definitely is still good news a lot of money for art checking a lot other districts so we'll start diving into that and having a lot more to report going forward thank you thank you and the last minute for the board with mr. Alarcon to share with you the update on about personalities including the added pressure for personnel for the tkk program as well as everyone else is slowing down Human Resources is picking up because about some separation retirement I'm transfers recognize my resignations Etc so we've been really busy preparing for activities that occurred during the summer such as Mandy the trainings orientation but especially busy with some of the separations that we've had administrative teachers at Center on so we're recruiting for those positions recall that we're now using the old gov also as an additional recruitment tool so we're super busy and human resource are we with our recruiting and onboarding as far as itk as mr. print Trend mention we do dual enrollment increase at is it are we are adding an additional t k soul will be recruiting for an additional t k teacher thank you I don't have any student board members report tonight so I'm just going to say thank you so much and that ends our report thank you that takes us to item 8.5 members of the board why don't we start with Dr mckeithen I'm going to actually a.m. save a lot of my comments to for the end of this is my last board meeting but this is why I didn't want to speak first I just want to say a couple things the cabinet Jose and and Jennifer I haven't worked with you very long but I want to say how excited I am about the possibilities under your leadership like you said there's such amazing work ahead of you thank you Robert thank you for being a good friend and colleague I see you in appreciate your efforts for collaboration in support of Staff Children and Families I'm going to whip miss your wicked sense of humor Rebecca my sister thank you so much for being the glue that holds us all together there are so many times I needed to lean on you and you were always there I want to express my deep appreciation for everything you do everything you have done and everything you will do I'm going to stop there mr. I have some comments for you later but I want to get too emotional so I just want to clarify did you say wicked wicked and I just point out that we will when we get to Ford Corner we can talk a little bit more about those things I think our plan is to keep it together during the Pee Dee River thank you dr. Kim I don't I'm not going to be my remark yeah because I always worry that folks are not around for board corner and I want to make my remarks in a more public setting but I do have to do business stuff first so we all had a bad a bunch of events recently so I'm sure other folks are going to talk about this I'm going to do my best not to steal Thunder but no one really notable one was the cities Juneteenth celebration on June 19th and there was an incredible going from the district including former superintendent thank you for being there so it was incredibly joyful and just an absolute pleasure and I'll I'll maybe let others see more but I did want to say I'd like best to figure out how we can participate more formally going forward and perhaps consider a sponsorship that of course the board would deliberate on but I'd like to connect our stop with the city stuff to feed about what that could look like for next year so I'm hoping that I can get nodding heads on just doing an email exchange for these guys to have conversations about sponsorship of Juneteenth next year with in collaboration with the city and then the ice it on the Baldwin Hills Community advisory panel on behalf of the school district and we watch the drilling that takes place at the Englewood oilfield witches are very close to me and there is there are two simultaneous studies being conducted about the impacts of oil drilling on human health and well-being one is being conducted by The Neighbourhood well it's called the study of neighborhood are petroleum are near petroleum which is snapped the acronym and so their study at which I've briefed both on before but it's been probably a they're more than five updated us is taking place starting this fall and there are two sites where the monitoring it's going to be are monitoring is going to be happening one is going to be on Sentinel Peak Resources property so they're the crew oil operator near Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area the other will be in Culver City at marycrest Manor which is just west of the oil field and that will take place for 12 months beginning in fall and then we will get updates on learn about the air quality in proximity to the neighborhood to the oilfield I also this past Friday dr. Kelly little Lytle Hernandez presented on her recent book publication her she's our resident genius lives in Culver City is a professor at UCLA and is a really fantastic member of our community that has fought alongside with many of us on behalf of social justice issues and she wrote and published a book called Mexicans which we heard a little about a little bit about at the Village well bookstore on Duquesne and the presentation was fantastic and we learn. She's already spoken with our ethnic studies and play instructors at the high school and that the book will likely be part of the curriculum in either the coming year or the following are high school students so that was really exciting to learn about and then I also attended along with many of us and it was also an incredible joy and I think I'll also let others talk more about that to not double double speak so I do have remarks for Dr mckeithen so I'm I'm going to do it so dr. mckeithen hi I have to express genuine gratitude but also some sorrow as I will absolutely mess what you've brought to the board for four years both in public and in buddying with me on important work you've received many a call from me and you were always both a colleague and this year I'm never straying from the absolute utmost you are done to fight early on what about us as a team needed to grow and what about us was strong and you were committed to amplify and both your expertise allowed this body that has no other member with your particular set of credentials to reliably ask the right questions and interrogate some of the boats that we've been taking for granted for years I cannot thank you enough for your personal and professional support is you and I have discussed times I would have gone to Great Lengths to support your rerun so I truly am going to miss you but I wish you the best and simultaneously know that you need nothing in the way wishes as you are such a competent and Brilliant leader that those to get to those who get to work with you going forward will have much to say just like this after only brief experience with you as a partner thank you so much Miss McBride I'm without repeating too much of what's already been said I enjoyed the Labor Management Institute Training I'm grateful for all of the staff and teachers and administrators who were they I feel like there was a lot of progress we were able to spend quality time together brainstorming ways that we can bring back the lessons that we learn there and Implement some thoughtful changes in our systems and practices making sure that we are sharing power and hearing from people who may not have felt hurt over the years and I left the training and then stepped down as I left the training feeling really hopeful and cited about the next several months to come and the next several years the direction that our district is going in working collaboratively across all stakeholder groups and so I really want to thank mr. Tran eye doctor Baxter and dr. Smith for leaving a lot of those conversations but leading collaboratively and with so much humility it was it was really great to be a part of that and I also attended Pride it was a great celebration I was happy to be there and enjoy things many people in the community come together and celebrating each other and just knowing that we have that sense of community here when we create it and lean into those who genuinely want to uplift one another and create spaces in Culver City where everyone truly feels welcome and to Sean after mckeithen you and I go back to running uncontested and 2018 together and actually go back to the appointment night you know what just barely cuz you jumped right in 20 months later and it has been a joy to serve with you I know your heart for children is genuine and you come here with the lens of caring only about what is in the best interest of these kids from your expertise from your heart from your experience as a mother and as a scholar and expert in the field of early childhood education and I've learned a ton from you and there have been so many decisions that I've made where is Channel my inner doctor mckeithan and I'm just people for the time that you've given to our community and the Legacy that you're helping leave here as you go on to do other things but also keep one foot in here because I will not forget that you said you would help us with this you became so I am not goodbye and just saying thank you and farewell and I look forward to collaborating with you in the future let me start by saying so much joy and starting to Facebook I carry it in my purse because everytime I'm feeling a little down I'm like can I just get through sentences that are school is speaking our local like talents we have two great universities that are filled with Geniuses and and dr. Kelly Lytle Hernandez is actually has a word that can use award what can I say about this conference another book that carry in my purse this is why I have back problems because I spend a lot of time like minutes where I have brakes that I'm waiting for a call I'm waiting for a student and so I need to have these books where I can read and then just really freshen up the information I hope that the work that we did this really really fuses every cell of every human at our school district because the word collaborative I know it's not part of conference name the conference name is California Labor Management initiative but the word collaborative is really withstood out and it really changed my mind a lot around everything we do in Culver City for those who have not completed the grace poem please submit it so that I can send to dr. Angela Baxter another meeting that I went to is I want to say thank you for the business department we met and passed out so many questions that I had I hope that rubber and I get a chance to really put some of these questions into a PowerPoint that we get to board members like part of like here's your budget in this is Steve's are the common question because I thought it was a really really good session okay I do want to read formerly to my colleagues here the pride ride I'm not going to read everything but I think it's important just a couple of sentences for my pride ride provide the ride speech because it was three of us and I want to make sure that the public knows that we three heard this and that is that it was very important for me be part of this committee to create the first Pride right event in Culver City and it was even more particularly important and special to be part of the second one because both of my children were there my son my daughter and pride is a way for the community to come together and celebrate celebrate community and it's just one way we can communicate to all our children that they are embraced and a way to remind them they belong in Culver City and in this beautiful Earth exactly as they are because loveislove . living a life full of happiness a life where a child hash I don't have safe schools to learn and step into their genius is their Birthright together we can create a community where all our members are uplifted or we can intentionally open the door so that the Next Generation can enter and grow we can't wait we have been urging mandate to stand together against the Supreme Court ruling over our bodies and filling the streets with guns this and we need to stand together to protect our human right especially those of our children and our students like I said it was three of us and want to make sure that we put it all in the public and what I want to say briefly I'm not done because I think we're going to save most of our marks floor the end what I want to say to doctor to Sean mckeithen is I will never forget the moment it was election night and you tapped on my shoulder and you said hi the song teeth Ed and I'm running for school board and I was just so grateful that you had this Spirit of joy and then we talked all night on our way to the Culver Hotel where we were celebrating the election of something and I have not stopped being impressed by you and I'm impressed how you ran the presidency I'm impressed with the hiring process of mr. Tran I'm impressed with how we moved from Moody meeting until 3 in the morning to now you know moving that that's the change the transition happen in your presidency and these are Great accomplishments that you know a lot of us really appreciate and the Legacy that you leave behind because you're leaving a place and you're leaving Culver City School District in a much much better place than it was in 2020 and I'm sure I wasn't here when you join the board that I am sure it is way way way farther along in our movement forward to thank you my church ditto to a bunch of things that other board members have said I'll mention one other thing because there has been relevant news about this I just want to remind people that the Sandy Segal youth Health Center can provide help for students for Reproductive health issues and referrals in counseling and medical help and so forth in the time where things are happening nationally about that it's important to remember we have local resources and take advantage of of them and of course support Health Center it's funded by donations really tempted to to Sean to just say we said we would do all this and I'm going to wait till the end but I will just they at this moment to make sure that our enormous audience of half-a-dozen people there's a while before they go home that you've done a really great job before you showed us how to be a board president during very difficult times and how to be valuable member of the community and of the board and you absolutely are leaving csusd better now than it was when you started save it to the end okay we have recess on our agenda do we need the 10 minutes so you guys okay with skipping the recess Casino so we will just move on to item 10.1 10.2 we're thinking of the district support and adherence to a policy of non-discrimination do anybody want a president that has a routine that we go through and review all about statement that it's part of our documentation contract language and all of that moving forward just to make sure that the language we use is matching with the definition in this was the legal requirements of the district so we are proposing that the board looking at the just just looking at the information that will be shared on all about documentation moving forward on the the statement of non discrimination on the basis of actual or perceived phrase color ethnic groups identification national origin ancestry religion age America land or parental status pregnancy physical or mental disability medical condition veteran status genetic information gender gender identity gender expression set sexual aura patient on the perception of one or more characteristic but the context of his language is not being as up-to-date as we can make it and this tonight it's just information item for the board to be informed thank you to other members of Giants score board members who want to comment on this will be looking to see we have a couple of cards but I don't think they're on this those are any board members okay it was sleep on to 10.3% to eat and security thank you brother in 11 I have the privilege to sort of MC this presentation tonight and this was on the board agenda for the last meeting but we had asked for additional time to prepare a better conversation in Berlin formation to share with the board tonight the Safety and Security as up-to-date as the best we can after the is so rigid instead of the last month-and-a-half and tonight the team of cabinet membership myself doctor Smith Doctor Baxter interim assistant superintendent and mr. Ali Khan and mrs. Quinn as well our director Ted franchetti who will be joining us online tonight he's he'll be part of our team but we assume so frame number one if I could just go right into a three parts about station I'm looking at existing back to the things we've done over the years but not in the comprehensive of everything this will be focusing on the depression the urgency after the school shooting in Uvalde Texas on May 24th Safety and Security how many many aspects the bulk of the conversation part 1 if you will is focusing on things that were pertaining or could have helped the district to prevent something like you've already texted shooting at Rock Elementary School as well as looking at part number to that same day we are learning and still are learning from all of the dissections of of the of the event at the time and it even currently and moving forward what are we going to do too. district and staff and students and facility in a much better place should something along this nature with the comic want to come up on us and if I can have the next rain so far for this portion I'm going to invite I think dr. Smith and dr. Baxter and Mr drunch Eddie to address this this train good evening the currently items that are in place to address safety on campus are proactive measures like mtss and our model that address is social emotional needs its first events mtsa has multi-tiered systems of support that's what the acronym stands for and it includes a piece which is a screener assessments and assessments that tell us how we look at what students needs might be social and as well as Educators have had training in PBIS which is positive behavioral interventions and supports and it includes think things and instructions and strategies like teachers principals greeting students at the door I will now turn it over to dr. Smith will share about restorative practices TD me again in terms of restorative practices and SEL programming and we're doing in terms of social emotional health for a student intern the restorative practices are scallops eyes have been participating in various kinds of protocols everything from Community Building circles we experience circles and Ella Mae conference that is tremendously effective interest breaking down Warriors and understanding each other classroom agreement and Norm impromptu counseling and there are other protocols in terms of restorative practices were going to take a look at working with the school site in terms of social emotional learning programming new Earth is a a welcome partner what we would call at the tier 2 level when we talk about tears of supporting intervention Tier 1 which is available to all students provided actually buy our school counselors the initial checking in with students and I'm checking on their mental health comes from our own school counselors provide what we call more of a tier 2 intervention as support with the mental help ease the in any other would ever the like treatment plans and one-on-one Therapies really ensure that our students their physical and mental their emotional their psychological health is in line and therefore they can access the curriculum which is really you know we want him in a learning space so I'm going to turn this over to take my colleague my superintendent thank you so much the last two items especially the overview like I said part one and probably that we will have another detail part to another preventive measures that we need to develop and foot and further develop why even bring a brand new something that we need such as a new contract tonight I just want to make mention that we sending you send me seagull View Center that's been also in addition to all the counseling support that is provided by our own councillors have been providing Services as well visit this is some more of a systemic structure to talk about Safety and Security not just simply the facility of the Doterra physical and bodily harm but it's actually the create security for our own student sense of well-being one big pieces out to the comprehensive School plan we are now in the process of reviewing all of the the school plan has been developed the safety plan over the years and this this next school year we will be reviewing this entire plan for the following year addressing the sir measure that we put in place for covid-19 as well as ongoing effort to maintain a high alert on the physical danger that should come to a a can of Uvalde Texas so the school safety plan will have a I Look to it and the different content with the input from school so I can also going into the board next year but that's a big case I just want to put that here so that we can have a marker that we can follow through and update the board in the nfu chordate if I kind of I discard I would like to invite doctor visit went around cherry and to take us through this spring thank you mr. Tran so as you know an important aspect of the Safety and Security of stamping you need to have the appropriate staff well-trained in order to implement these improvements so that the first item that we're looking at is a safety officer currently we have a 11 safety officer we have five vacancies there and so we're currently recruiting for those via edjoin and nail gov those clothes on 78 and so will be viewing in the next few weeks for those positions I'm dispatch we have one vacancy that were interviewing for and as recent as last month we increase the the salary for both the school safety officer and the Security Commission technicians pretty significantly to attract more qualified candidates and so where I were working on Staffing to provide a more safe and secure campus it's a brief overview what the responsibilities of the Safety and Security Department is our primary responsibility is protection of the students and staff we may have additional duties that we do throughout the day but our primary focus is on providing for the safety of the breakdown of our apartment to safety officers are responsible for patrolling the campuses on foot looking for school rule violations looking for intruders people who should be there ensuring that the gates are locked at the perimeter secured our dispatcher position monitors all of our surveillance cameras we have approximately 400 throughout the district and they're monitoring all of the sites as well as monitoring Alarm Monitoring radio communications between our officers are School site and Culver City police department and dispatching officers to any calls for service that we get currently there's two safety officers on the day shift Monday through Friday starting to Culver City Middle School and we have five safety officers assigned to the high school on day shift Monday through Friday we have swing shift or evening and graveyard Patrol which each of those consists of two safety officers Monday through Sunday and that's all adjusting closing when we when we analyze the locations of the safety officers when you're one of the things that really stands out is that we have a significant number at the middle of the high school so worried Valley waiting I'm staff over at the Alamo OCD and the adult school on so that we can be sure to have staff there as well in case of any situation that might arise thank you so when we were working on addressing this particular Staffing model obviously miserable convention that we currently do not assigned any safety officers at the elementary school we would like to very much looking into that as well as H O C D program because of our hourly scheduling it's a little different than that and then condition also to have some kind of a training for staff in places where students is not really part of the of the daily operation maintenance and operations and so on and so forth so this is something that will waiting to to see more guidance from the county as well as some other colleagues working across the whole state but the list is is growing and this is something that we will keep the board up today this past weekend I'm going to invite the doctor Baxter and dr. Smith to address the dnipro s e l and end this spring with the curly well we know that student needs continue to shift grow expand and then that's our support and needs to shift and adapt and still ongoing training is necessary fortunately as Mr Quinn reported early be there are some block grants that we're able to advantage of to expand the training for our for our staff in terms of social emotional learning as well as counseling and then also really part of that is making sure that new Earth and at this point they're offering is an alignment we don't want we want to be efficient and not necessarily overlap but how all those the line that takes time training horses and so we're able to move forward with some of these These funds thank you dr. Smith and just to go a little bit further in regard to understanding with the social emotional learning needs are of our students will look at data so the California healthy kids do unit survey is a critical piece that tells us what Steven data we might need to look at it we look at multiple indicators of Engagement like attendance tardiness so that we can see what we might need to provide an order for students to be successful as well as ongoing counseling referrals and other data points that help us triangulate our needs assessments to make suggestions and recommendations with that I will turn it over to superintendent Tran this coming year we will be introducing a at a different mindset when it come to walkthroughs we would be collaborating with our partners in the in the law enforcement group as well as other Consultants we can bring in to help guide the individual as we quietly behind the scene walking through the campuses and looking at all the Aldi's in the way that we can inform each other and we can share that information with other agencies in the county is first in the state we like to make sure that if we could do something better at this point immediately we would like to begin doing them taking advantage of the additional fee coming in from the state as well as being aware that we discovered a certain aspects of our social fabric of our community we wanted to incorporate that into how we look at a place in both of the the protection that is available as well as the possibility that somewhere we could do a better job at fixing this fixing that so they should be going to be ongoing not a drill but it's more like a quiet walk through and and with the engagement of principles and and and collaborating partners throughout the the city the county so this part is new we don't normally do this on the regular basis but we would like to introduce that into into our operation as well as ongoing communication is another piece that will be updated and upgraded with them we learned quickly that sometimes we don't have the right information out there then some information will be out there in the tend to be somewhat difficult to undo what misinformation is in place so we would like like continue with them we can go outside leaders to prepare a protocol of communication to keep family in in the loop and then as way as well as an ongoing listing and posting of a resources within the community to make it available make them available to the two appearances and staff and students I'm going to do this part I'm not quite plugged in yet but I recalled sometime at the beginning of the school year we did have an incident where a closure of what about schools did a cardinal like to have mister and Shelly to share the contacts of communication law enforcement and into the next frame as well Dell enforcement communication is critical in the incident that happened it was a shelter-in-place it was an incident that took place off campus and because we have direct communication via two-way radio with Culver City PD we were able to get the message to lock down initially a lockdown prior to their dispatch even gave them being able to make a phone call to our dispatch so it's important for us to maintain that communication I've been working with the fire department radio technician on enhancing our communication adding additional channels that we may be able to communicate with them on it doesn't interfere with their everyday communication going into the next slide in the event of an active shooter on campus the response of a school safety officer first they're going to advise any students and staff and their immediate area to lock down in the nearest place if it's safe to do so they're going to secure all the hall doors to prevent shooter from getting in the hallways and then they themselves will lock down in the near space once they're safe they're going to continue to relay information to our dispatcher but you've location of the shooter number of Shooters directions weapon types of cetera our dispatchers going to be receiving that information and they're going to notify all of the affected School sites do something was to happen at the high school it's going to affect the Middle School Farragut Culver Park The Adult School Roc doing anything in the Olympic complex so don't make those notifications blr two-way radio and also where the phone there are other responsibilities for the monitor surveillance cameras and tried to track the location of the shooter on the Canon camera once they find that shooter and they can track him they'll be able to relay that information to the Culver City Police Department through the incident command or mobile command once established my role will be to establish mobile command post Jason to the Culver City police department and fire department command post I'll be providing them information directly an update to District administrators and leaders on the status of the incident and also very public information officer to work with them on getting information out to the parents and the community in the event of an active shooter the students and staff students and staff the lockdown in their classroom or near securable space all of our doors are at which is lock box and they shall be disengaged and the dorsal checked and sure that blind should be clouds or Windows covered in the student show hide out of sight from Windows have their cell phones on silent and remain silent so not to attract the attention of the shooter the Culver City Police Department once they receive location of the event they're going to respond immediately in minutes is even you know a minute and once a minimum of two officers arrived they will make entry into the school to locate and engage the shooter or Shooters in custody respond will begin clearing the campus for additional Fred and the fire department will begin treating the victims once you tcpd gives us direction will begin escorting the classes to designated parent student reunification we Union locations those are all determined predetermined and outlined in the school safety plan once the police department determines that the site is safe they will give us the authorization to make an all clear via phone DSL phone landline phones and radios so that was Dexter to call me developed after the Columbine shooting up to this date but after the Virginia Tech University shooting another protocol was developed based on incidents that took place there and that protocol is run hide fight and it gives you a few more options for what you might do based on the situation that you're faced with in your immediate area and something that will be exploring further and having discussions with cabinet and all the stakeholders on how we want to proceed 602 to close to close this frame on a different note the Run hide and fight have been on on the circle has been introduced to us for quite a few years but there there's a information that we need to present to to search out more and bring it to the board certain elements of that my work for us in some situation with children were older and in some cases it may not be applicable at all so we still not sure exactly how to dress it but it's an important understand when you and this meaning of a box of what had happened to drop Elementary School in in Uvalde Texas this is not part of our new thinking and I don't have a definitive answer one way or the other but we will definitely look into this this may be a mix of two depending on what we are looking at either the Columbine or the Virginia Tech inspired a run fight and hide or run hide and fight protocol if I could bring the next free dr. Smith will take us to the swing so when were you thinking about how we vision for the future how do we support students and families where before something goes really really badly and so when we thinking about clear behavior and how we support that we go back to the multi-tiered system of support model this these tears and what happened Beach. We want to make sure we're not over referring over the spending but that we're addressing the underlying needs of students as he is a present we want to really look at revising the and parent handbook the family handbook so that we haven't do an equitable lens you know certain policies make sure they align with board policy they rely they aligned with Ed code and online with common sense and they align with we know about about student Behavior the expanded partnership with with new Earth is significant in terms of being able to serve more division of Dai goal is to make the alignment between these plethora of resources coherent cohesive and coordinated from Maximum so which one of those resources is the Sandy Segal youth Health Center you mentioned Dr Lebanon campus already part of the system of support how do we look at Pier mentors and you know student peer-to-peer and the power of that is very significant do how do we take all of these resources and and make them fit into a system or create a system around them for Maximus app our students and our families and our community and that's that's the goal Mr Alucard so this is a good start but unless we get the message out there to our students to our parents to the community to our staff to the board then it it stays in here it really doesn't do much for us we've seen too many situations that are crisis situations that are critical situations where immediate action is necessary and so we talked about how we get this message out if we start with our stuff we looked at Mandy two trainings but with with a mandated training it's a video and then you can just look at the video and then check out so we've talked about other forms such as presenting the information at administrative Council viewing some videos that we were hang out now together as a team and then looking at each element of run hide fight or whatever so whatever system we decide to go with and then presenting that to the staff with them creating the plan with them and then going to back to school night spreading that information at back to school night presenting this information at the new teacher and new staff orientation presenting the information when we're doing the onboarding for new staff so really getting this information out illicitly to all of those groups and consistently so that we're getting the same message to all of those groups so that's what we're talking about and that's our goal you no moving forward so that we're on the same page as far as what to do how to plant and then practice those actions that we're going to need to practice in order to have them become effective in the next frame we will be looking at the different way of protecting the facility and existing protection measures in place as well as other things were thinking about so Ted and Robert will walk her through this this rain would like to have mr. ronchetti go through a few of these options just a review and but I do want to share that we are looking at increased funding in the new budget that I was mentioning that'll help pay for we were hoping that discretionary block rent would come through and we have a big pot of unrestricted money we could do everything we wanted that one didn't quite come through as expected which is one of the things I was mentioning but there are other funds available and there's also some religious open right now that may reallocate unused covid funds to the school safety issues so we're really keeping an eye on that one to see if that comes through 10 Sonos to protecting our campus it doesn't involve Personnel would be a section through environmental design and some of the recommendations that I've come up with would be anticlimax gaming fencing on the school or site perimeter and what this is this is chain link that doesn't allow you to get your feet or your hands in to climb over the fence another solution is electronic access control for the School site offices with an intercom and video camera that would allow them to control access to the offices to ensure additional safety we're also looking at safety glass at sites with last entry I think there's four or five of our sites that have Plastic Man glass or main entrance to the glass and anyway just break the glass income right food so we're looking at Stacey Plaskett would prevent that from happening I mentioned in a previous life as far as the procedures for school safety officer to lock the hall doors in the event of an active shooter installing Mac locks on the hall doors would allow for an immediate closing by just clicking a button on a computer and can be done from any of the school sites any computer in the district and what that does is it would immediately release the doors which are all open position and allow them to close and lock preventing anybody from entering the hallway electronic Access Control pedestrian entry points we don't have enough staff to man every entry point so going with electronic access would allow students and staff dancer through those gate with a program card and then we're also looking at limiting the number of entry points or finding alternate the ones that we have and there's a lot of talk about you know we don't want her campus has to appear to be fortresses and there's limited ways on how we can enhance the protection or the protection of the campus in the students and staff without making our campus looks like 4% or making students and Staff feel like they're locked into some type of prisoner or camper whatever recommendations allow us to make enhancements the campus is without any visible difference if you're driving by your walking by your walk on campus you wouldn't really see the difference but the overall safety of the campuses would be greatly enhanced therefore we be able to keep the open feel of our campuses at this point I'd like to kind of a I want to thank our team members for putting the deceased together this a lot more questions and then we have answer for but there are still a few more things we need it's kind of bring it up to the board for additional consideration because we will be back additional information for for guidance from the board one of that is as we talked about the worst nightmare scenario of them all it is three things an active shooter on campus acting meeting is happening right now so therefore we need all the help we can get that means we need to engage out our relationships are our understanding without local police department Law Enforcement Act Amina securing right now we need help that part will be developed out with a serious conversation moving forward I believe the first time the first meeting that we will have without a chief of police for the the department of the City PD will be on July except I will start with our conversation taking one having to do with a shooter not let me just go back a little bit before they become a shooter what about young people person before they become a shoe today they were all students students with desperation with anger with the things that we that they wish someone could tell things to sort through so tonight when you when you heard about all of the new Earth all of the preventive maintenance effort to Friday's exhaustion motion of safe spaces what I assumed it is so hopefully support these young people so that they don't get to the point of feeling the self-harm or creating harmful all of those that may not have anything to do with the pain but is that the enduring so be probably before they become shooter we trying to build as much as we can into it the active Shooters we should have meaning they have to have access to weapons I'm going to say something that's most of us probably could engage a 17 angry Dash with young person but if that person came with a with a weapon we can't we win able to engage at all for the second part is that the district is looking that way to support City County or the state for some sort of informational campaign about safe locking weapons if you have weapons at home about certain safe zone or weapon free zone said that they had to be looked at carefully and all the other measures to address the the availability of weapons in the time of desperation that a young person could take that weapon in onto campus I can shoot on campus meaning the campus it's so if we have done all we could have done that perhaps the campus would be just like Miss around Chevy's I will look to forbidden so there is a balance that we have to look at us with texting at the drop of a moment to to build up the the defense of our schools and our facilities and offices but doing in such a way that we don't inadvertently destroy the sense of safety and well-being of our community ultimately though the board that will be guiding Us in adopting measures that would take Safety First and this is the kind of hardest challenge that we have to come in knowing that we have more answers I'm more questions and we have answer for some more information before coming but tonight do we just an opening conversation that I thought I would wanted to bring to plan which is by the way I'm surprisingly to me an unbelievable document it cs500 page is that obviously a lot of work went into and it's a a phenomenal piece of work that the really is designed to ensure the safety of our our treasure our children I'm also here as author of our PTA and most importantly the proud parent of a 4th grader at Farragut in representing officially representing the parents all the parents of our great District I recently accompanied Ted roncetti and our principal on the campus security assessment walkthrough as is mandated in the cssp and there's both good news and bad news the bad news is I was nothing short of horrified with what's going on I am not going to get into specifics because that is it's not the place to do it in the front public forum that's the bad news the good news is I found B Ranch Eddie to be totally and completely on top of it the items that I personally were identifying he was five steps ahead and then I wasn't going to mention any of them but they are a number of them are publicly mentioned here we're talkin about the need for a safe front entrance to Farragut for example examples of class that's mention and also I want to go to Echo his opinion that we are certainly not looking for something that is for first on the privacy screens that would like I can look like IV for for instance in any event additional items should be communication systems that we needed Farragut staff and administration procedures and pressures at the beginning of the year and it finally out with why am I here I'm here just to ask whoever it is whether the superintendent's office the board a boat onto please do you can to take advantage of this unique situation where we may be getting additional funds Through the Alley not that block grant most parents are out as parents aren't even paying attention most students don't even thinking about all this how do you think this District can even trust a superintendent and school board that numbers to bring Safety and Security wins for the past year you've lied on I swear faces that you would address and personally email us regarding previous budget questions vaccine mandate concerns and simple safety concern hard to believe a board can bring about good any longer when you lie to us every two weeks I yield my time okay and Miss Carrera followed by Miss Mulatto hello my name is Caitlin Carrera I'm current graduated from Culver City High School so first off I would just like to say the board for doing this presentation I know that this takes hard work and time to put together this plan on so I appreciate that you are getting too high and that you are addressing it as we all know last year we probably didn't I'll feel safe on campus I know personally I smelled a little let down by our security team you know we never had a lockdown drill I'm so seeing that you are having those in place for next year and there is but one thing I do want to address we did have constant fights at school and one of the things that made it stop the most you're one of the things that made students act differently was that new security team that came on to our campus you want to ask if that's what you're teaching will be there next are there any plans to further train our own security guards just because it seemed like they were not effective during that time and then I would also like to talk about the anti-gay wingspans by song the slide I think you know I enjoy mr. on tidies presentation about not making it seem like a fortress but it is important to put these things into place but I am concerned about having this at the high school because I know many students have said that if there your offense and a lockdown were to happen it would climb and they would get out of there and I feel like for elementary school I can definitely see that working because those students will be closer to those teachers and listen to the high schoolers if we are open nutrition or lunch and we're outside and you see a fun most of the time we will climb to get out of a dangerous situation but it's something to keep in mind and one more thing is do you Health Center I just heard you guys talk about it and personally I am a student that did use the help center and I loved it and I appreciate all the resources but there are many students that don't get that luxury and unfortunately are turned away to Stafford not enough spots so please just keep on mind if we do have additional funding for you to funnel more funds into the health center to accommodate more students on just because it doesn't accommodate everyone once I do want to thank you for putting this together graduated student I wanted to come out to show my support and to show how important this cause is so just thank in the room and then we can close up hello everybody my name is Dalena and I'm also finally graduated student just graduated a few weeks ago so does a few things I want to mention from the presentation is what of what Katie said the previous speaker made about the no climb fences and everything I'm also like a lot of students like he said after it has been for some time or even if it's just class time we have been told by teachers and students and buy our parents out of something happens our immediate goal is if we can if it's possible is to get off of campus and if we have things like no climb fences and we're stuck out that the danger to us as well and the same thing if it's the same thing with the Locking of always automatically and students get locked in with a shooter or anything that could also be to a danger to students that end up getting lost in into a dangerous situation is that something that I want to see more information on mix and they were making the right decision on that and then they also want to mention is that there is a letter attached to this isn't the item it's a letter made by esp32 my students and what their concerns are about Security on campus happy to see that there was some action taken with the new security team but the one thing that I want to point out is that we really didn't know who these people are worth that we're coming on campus I remember having house reps meeting or soon as you can come up to asking me who these people are hoodoos new administrators are on campus telling them what to do or telling them to get the blood clots or telling the following them around campus and I made them extremely uncomfortable when they ask me who these people are as or should be listened to them I couldn't even get a minute got some when I was in student leadership cuz I had no idea what's happening now these changes that are happening on campus so I do think that when these changes are happening with new security or new type of leadership being placed on campus student leadership and student the whole student body as a whole shipping Fernandes so that we know what's happening on on our campus so that when there are many changes happening we are alerted of them we see that our school at our district has do something to keep us safe and I think that we should continue to work on student leaders to make sure that were thought you know we're making changes that they also agree with her that are also collaborating to make the solutions thank you David Henrie something hi good evening everyone I hope everyone can see me so I just wanted to make a few comments first apologize for not being here earlier on my wife ill right now and I had to take care of dinner and things for my kids on my first one to just quickly I'm thankful Shawna know this is our last meeting today and just thank you to Sean for everything that you've done and you know truly I I saw you as an advocate for teachers and I just want to greatly appreciate that all that you've done or on the teachers in Culver City Unified School District little bit of a moment and I appreciate that we talked a little bit about safety tonight and you know instances of of Shooters and things like that are on everyone's mind but I want to go back Southwest 2nd and talk a little bit about discipline. I'm at the high school right now the disciplinary policies at the high school this past year or just flat-out didn't work I'm over 70% of the teachers that they Union surveyed feel that there is no clear consequences for student Behavior at this time more students are out of class than ever before there are more fights than ever before they're more students party than ever before in the 17 years I've been there I've never seen anything quite like this before our teachers our students don't want people want things that are going to have consequences people want to save campus people want students in class and I can tell you teaching summer school right now where there are pretty clear consequences for student behavior in summer school were not seeing what we saw during the school year in the summer program right now all the programs that are being lemonade all call for some sort of consequences when something is violated their people have to be held accountable and that just was not happening with it was happening it wasn't effect I would ask the board and the superintendent to work with Administration to come up with a system that works for high school students because what we implemented last year simply didn't because 70% of our staff of our teaching staff are coming to the union saying that something has to be done about student Behavior and the escalation of these issues on campus people don't listen and come up with Solutions and a union has been all here willing to work with administrators to get Solutions done thank you I think we have one more coming in the room Tristan Isadora Hello friends I don't take the time to think the president board and staff for making the presentation and I just want to start off by echoing you know some of the people who spoke to the Miss Carrera and Miss Mulatto for showing up because of the importance of this agenda item and really just about lighting the fact that we have to get this right I was fortunate when I was at the school to be on the high school I served on the TV is on restorative justice committees and we knew the after the pain demek with the time to go full head on with social emotional learning and restorative justice work we knew suited for coming in with a clean slate and we knew that if we wanted to stop these broken systems that it was the time that happen and it wasn't implemented in the way we hoped and now we are suffering the repercussions of that the beginning of the presentation loved it we talked a lot about social emotional learning to talk about a proper Sword of Justice we talked about Equity work and then we went in to talk about what that would look like I'm the with the firm belief that the definition of insanity is repeating the same thing expecting different outcomes and if we've continued to if I don't the same dollars were going to raise dollars into the systems into these offices is that have repeatedly shown that all they are here to do is perpetuating school-to-prison pipeline is to Bodyslam student who does that affect the most overwhelmingly black and brown we need to think bigger we need to pick nature we need to think systems we need to think travel from therapy these are there should we have to be spotlighting because to me, right when we talked about the preventive measures we talked about it's blocking really just like my students and we can't beautify that students are smart students will know that we are telling out there unsafe and that creates trauma trauma create these issues that were saying stop talk about all these preventive measures in the name of School shooters to me that speaks to the need for crisis response but that does not speak to the name of increased resources the increase in increased measures in office things to see on the day today because to me all that will do that perpetuate these falsehoods and these systems that have overwhelmingly and disproportionately impacts of black and brown suit and stuff thank you so I want to close public comment and give staff an opportunity to respond if they want to respond to any anything that was said in public comment and then we'll go to the board thank you just a couple points on the Bike Line Fence it's anti-climb from the outside from the inside and has cross bars on it that allow climbing from the inside so if that's an issue for students wanting to jump over the fence from the inside and still be able to do that on the contract security we only using them to cover our vacancies cuz we've had extended vacancies this past year on the assumption that we can now fill all those Open Spaces this summer we do not intend to continue using them next year that's it thank you okay please are there any more coming through that I just want to take an opportunity to address the letter sent to us by a speaker group and miss mulaku it is actually a valid point and it just let me just start it's where we had some conversation about additional training to allow stop whomever this coming into contact with our students on a regular basis should have it must have some additional training to do not event react all the time but it is an ongoing effort to be known to be seen and to see and hear all students I know it's simple to say but it's a lot more harder to do with the complexity of rotational staff members and so on so forth but something that we I also intending to bring to the that the front of our of our training program for it but the security staff members this coming year as well okay board members Miss McBride do you have comments and questions planned for before the end of the school year but off just to give you time to have something to prevent I think it's a it's a difficult topic because you do want to have balance we don't want students who are traumatized from increased police presence in their security presence on campus but at the same time you want to have the security that's there that's needed when there is an imminent threat and so that balance is really difficult and I think it takes and we see it in his presentation it takes a collective effort across all departments across all stakeholders and so one of my questions and I'm going to practice all of my comments by letting you know that if you don't have an answer for me right now I understand that I would just love for this to be a continuous conversation with updates as we go on and maybe another agendas discussion right before school starts just to see where we are as Things become a minute regarding at the beginning of the presentation we talked a lot about the protective measures and MPS spb is my question with Dad is regarding evaluation and aligning our staff evaluations with those goals just because we can say that we want to implement these things and we have talked about restorative practices but we know that those things are not effective if it's not rolled out with Fidelity and we can't say throw it out with fidelity every member of our staff and that means across the board from the custodial staff Food Services Workers to teachers and administrators are on the same page when it comes to what his TV is what does that mean how does that look if I'm a custodial if I'm a custodian on the can I see a fight breaking out and I'm the only adult around until someone else can come we have to know that we're all responsible for creating safe for campuses and so I would like to know in the future if there's an answer right now how the evaluation are being aligned with these goals for all of these things in psf CVS restorative practices and SEL I would also like more information on the training that our campus safety officers receive I'm especially as it really conflict resolution crowd control things that are actually they don't take tools or weapon but can actually make our students feel safer because we know that if they know how to make sure that the they're taking control of a situation that's a little bit out of control that does make students feel safer because they know that the adults that are they are looking out for them and so I want to put our safety team in the best possible position for success and I to training and I haven't heard a lot over the years about what specific training our officers who are employed by the district go through and I have heard from students who feel like when there is something that's happening there's not a lot of clarity on what the role the security team is in so I thought I would like more clarity around that I do appreciate the officers being expanded to be assigned to the elementary and OCD many of our campuses as everyone knows our public park and open to the public before school starts I think one element of that that I would love to explore at some point is having closed campuses and I know if parents were here they would throw tomatoes at me right now because we've enjoyed the luxury of how open campuses we can walk our kids on campus and stay for the morning assembly but in reality that's not completely safe because we don't know who's coming on campus in the morning and I have heard from staff and teachers that it makes it really hard to clear the campus and make sure that locking the gates and you're locking the appropriate people in and the appropriate people out and so I would love for us to have a conversation with our principles to find out what they feel is the safest way to keep our elementary schools at school campuses safe and if they're expansion for security officers for elementary no CD. There are sweet on those campuses in the morning that have Public Access because we literally have on campus at El Rincon people walking and jogging on the track a students are arriving and I believe that at some point that time should cut off and no members of the public should be on campus while our students are arriving I also would like to know how often security teams participate in active shooter training and what that looks like an again this is not necessarily a question that you can't answer right now but I would like to know is there a schedule and how often they are actively participating in the training and visiting different sites to see what the active shooter training will look like at Farragut versus the high school or love Iona I'm almost done I want to Echo what's that famous Carrera about access for Sandy seagull and expanding the support I don't know what that looks like if that's more funding that we need to help fundraise or if the district and somehow partnering with them but I have heard in the past that it's not only sometimes make an appointment but also students know that it's there that they still may not know how to access it and if you are going through something and you can barely make it to school asking for that additional help you may not get to that point so how do we bring those serve add more to the students instead of expecting the students to access the services and the other element that is always near and dear to my heart is a piece that we have not as much control over but it's the parent piece we know that our responsibility is to create safe spaces for students come to campuses and they know that they're there to learn and they're going to be loved on and supported but we can't control what's going on at home and a few years ago there was a nationwide hey I'm over of something like 8,000 students and 55% of them reported that they were emotionally abused by a parent or another adult in their home and 11% of them said that there was physical abuse these are the students that are showing up in our camp and we can have you know the the locks on the doors and we can have more security and we can have more counselors but if these students are going home to these environment our hands are our limited we're live and what we can do to support them and I feel like we talked about it before we really need to find a way to tap into ways of educating our parents on how they can support their student there's they want to send their students to save schools but they may not know really know how to create safe home spaces so that they are helping us keep our cat our classrooms and campus Estates and so I really would love for that to be another element of this program where we plan where we find ways to support our Parish and helping them recognize the signs at that their child may be hurt or at risk of something worse and how they can create safer home and also miss mulaku she made me think of some as long as we are wearing masks on campus I think we might need to make a greater effort to ensure that there is more visible like a maybe a bigger badge or something to let people know an introduction a picture the name that goes out if there are new administrators on campus new staff on campus are students do deserve to know who is this person that's telling me I can't walk down this hallway and if we're going to be wearing mask you know for the first day of the foreseeable future I think it's maybe just go that extra step to ensure that our students know who will be on their campuses and one more thing about on septet I appreciate that their thoughtfulness behind you know the crime prevention through environmental design I'm sure that if we have you no ballistic when glass or these extra locks that they are not intimidating and not made making our students feel like they're in a prison there are other elements of that though and that this is when it becomes a color effort across Department we've got to make sure that our campuses are clean beautified spaces are spaces that send a message to the public that we are not neglecting our campuses and when we're neglecting us. Send a message to people who may want to do harm if if you've neglected the face if you don't care about it and I don't care about it and that's an opportunity for me to make my way in we have to an end that has a that has an element of septet it's beautifying campuses beautifymeeh spaces as another deterrent if there's no trash in front of the school if there are no windows in disrepair there no broken sign it then that also is another element sending a message to the public that this is a space where we care about our campus we care about the people in it and we're going to do everything we can to keep it safe though I look forward to getting more information as this conversation continues thank you. I really enjoy hearing from all the different components of our cabinet and our superintendent I think it really demonstrated to me the the work that needed to be done for this presentation and the importance of working in this multi-layer system that is 100% needed so that we can get the safest schools for our most vulnerable in my statement I did say the child's birth right for an education and you should be safe one and so thankful for that and I give you Grace for taking the time to put it all together for us I do have a list of questions and I think it will be best for me to email them and get a response later because I feel like a lot of these questions are very specific right and so it's like tell me about the protocol right like when the fight happened at the high school and there was 50 students tell me about the specific protocol security staff contact the site staff contact if they did contact PD or the SR oh what was that communication Sean that I didn't hear in the presentation this is best practices this is the research this is this is vetted by Rand district has been studying I'm presenting to you what has been found in other school shootings because I just quickly looked and I saw or and as three floor articles on what the have found after the school shooting the last thing I want to say is I apologize I really need to pick my play mask off because awful allergy and I'm literally going to start crying why am I stopped here if you need to to speak again later Adventure Time okay thank you so so grab a tune for the presentation and I also appreciate the whole team participated that that felt
