think that being a part of the family is a big deal as it should be means that you get a network of people and resources that care and love for you the same way that we provide for all of our students and all of our families and I also think that it means that you're required to contribute as well to be part and parcel of that vision and of that mission don't just get to soak it all in right have to do something you have to volition kind of a go forward towards something I'm wired that way I'm looking forward to that and everything that all of you said and terms up the conversations the learning the collab rayshun and continuing to do outstanding things for students in academics Athletics the Arts activities and everything that they Endeavor to pursue so I'm I'm offered I'm blessed Foundation I'm here well for very special reason for honoring very special person here in our Culver City and administration the Culver City Education Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to supporting an enhancing copy education programs for every student in the Culver City Unified School District  tonight I'm here because some of our club to the employees have decided recognize one of their colleagues with a building block a building block is a brass plate that gets a fixed in in the lobby of our Culver City unified school district offices their headquarters and by buying a building block you not only on or somebody it can be teacher it can be a copy you can be anybody connected with our schools who's done really special things for kids which is almost everybody you know but it also brings money to fix dedication foundation so we really appreciate it in that way to it's a really meaningful gift I know cuz I got one it's really special okay tonight the person we upon ring thanks to her co-workers or CC Christy Pham is Roseanne nakanishi Roseanne is dead prison dedicated 35 years to Culver City Unified School District weather at a side or in the district building known always as the go-to person in the special education department because her knowledge organizational skills and her dedication to getting the job she worked hot girl asleep off and after hours for both students and staff and she was the ultimate multitasker she probably still and she was valued for the professional way in her years working here she was value for professional way in which interacted with her colleagues the site staff at District staff parents he was unfailingly polite and hope courteous even went with difficult situations and people and she has retired and so she is very much play Old co-workers presenting her with a block in her honor the block will read set up the block read brassette not Kenichi for 30 years of dedication to the students of Culver City Unified School District CCSD remember how love appreciated thank you okay so next superintendent's report  Skips a lot of these things I get to say your past superintendent have a presentation a little bit later so I'm going to make my comments I'm very brief similar to every single board meeting with that over 4 years or fairy dork concise void with emotion I just are School Board I want to thank this community I want thank the staff members certainly my friends and family on cabinet four great years my joke has been and I'm proud to be to be graduating on time so I thought I've also been very where to work with a very Dynamic and dedicated team being a guy from out-of-state not only hang on having facial hair at the gap between my two front teeth I was also from out of state so the media seek with which people put their faith in Trust me and willingness to to lock arms and say what can we accomplish together when we have a fair Division and let's start with a culture that believe bleeding only an every single child capacity but also there were but also every Ultra capacity and their worth in the value in working together to contribute tube the current opportunities for kids but also building a future for them that they're excited about and they believe that they can make happen so that vision successful takes us all I think has been more than a tagline it's been maybe our family Mantra 2 to take a line from from Josh but I'm honored to have served with you I'm grateful for the level of spring confidence that you had in me and I wish you nothing but the best Katy okay I'm going to talk about summer school for just a quick second because I'm not going to follow that part we're really excited that we have over 200 students in our second year of doing El summer school but we had to do prefer better we had to go one up we did last year so this year Arielle summer school kids are being exposed to introductory robotics they're doing bee Bots Bots cubelets summer coating using black fix language and to control their robots they're having a great time working in teams practicing their English speaking and listening skills while having problems and completing tasks using their Bots it may be the most traditional way to develop English Language Art and English language development but it's not what we're all about and we're making it engaging and allow him develop their skills while exposing from the some stem so we're really excited about how are pandas some of the work and and I really have to thank the team that's come together Carla Madrid ran all a martian off of Drew blank of kind of stepped up and put this all piece all together at the end Alejandro Valencia's your ship with that so we really really fake / for that after your consideration to approve the El Cap which it tonight moving forward and we've created a principal El Cap cheat took it down even to color code and put some high what's in there and now that you know we in our in our version of the El Cap where we have of everything is now number from we have kind of a system to it we spent a lot of time last week focusing on what data things went up things that we did after his keynote and he left us was that we did Reflections and talked about what what what fits resonated with us and what we were going to go back to our staffs and talk about and work on of course with data Focus he talked a lot about focusing on evidence in the evidence of learning what kind of evidence we have and one thing I really like to talk about the that the skills of the staff have to match the needs of the students and so it doesn't really mean that we are doing things wrong it means that we have to every year what we did when you're may not work the follow with here and we have to be able to adopt and be willing to work on and whatever kids need and if that differ training then that's what we that we need to do and really kind of focusing on our people sees finally he talked a lot about the big the biggest Optical in teaching his isolation as it was very supportive of the work that we were doing around our plc's and trying to have teachers collaborate because bread our best one more working too was that was a great day and we're going to continue the Excellence and Equity as we move forward next year in alignment with all of the excitement this evening with new faces at new positions I'm going to start with promotions and ask for Tracy Pamelia to come forward so I'd know Tracy Familia has been part of the sea Steam play family since 2007 and she has dutifully and wonderfully provided great leadership to El Marino Elementary School as principal announce the volume to the community that evening that Tracy will have a new role with Astrid she'll be working in Educational Services as our new director curriculum and instruction thank you I do look forward to it's been it's been a wonderful nine years ago Marino I will Echo superintendent LaRosa's sent when he first joined the ccusd family that I received that first year was something that I hadn't encountered before the large District that I work for previously and it was one of those things where I felt like  it was the right fit for me and I really really left my time as principal at all Marina I look forward to working the larger Community with the es students across the district and with staff and the family members as well across the district so thank you again for considering me and I will be starting work right on Friday thank you so much cope with with that transition promotion I'd like to clean a sheer toy to come to the boat  help me to shoot is been part of the CCSD family since 2000 why didn't she is served as a teacher and most recently as an assistant principal / tosa and she will now be in the interim principal of el Marino Elementary well I guess I would just like to say thank you that's for this opportunity it is a very Bittersweet transition because my partner in crime will be a still be with us after the different capacity I can only do what what she has left for us and I look forward to continue the great work to ease for us with belong with the team but she has left for us as well so I look forward to working with all of you in the future thank you  how moving on to new faces and new season with family members I am present to the board into the community this even Claudia arriola who meet the new office of child development director during July 1st I'm going to leak a little bit Claudia Claudia has 25 years of experience in child development she began her career as a preschool teacher for the past 16 years has served as a licensing and State Appliance specialist an assistant program director for the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation which is a non-profit community-based organization in the Los Angeles area responsible for planning directing organizing and coordinating administrative services for 35 Child Development sites in seven different counties throughout California she has accepted knowledge and state and federally funded child-care migrant Child Care Early Head Start and preschool programs Claudia hold need a bachelor's degree in human services and a master's degree in education from the University of Phoenix she is currently working on a doctorate in early childhood education with Southern University so well Claudia thank you for this opportunity and look forward to working with this amazing family with Culver unified with our community and with parent of three students at CC busty in the school system and I'm So currently still the president president of United parents of Culver City and I just wanted to take this time to I think Dave Larose for a parent's perspective we really appreciate how you receive parents and how you listen to us and work with us and  thoughtful approach you take to all of the children in the school district and I really appreciate it and I know that many other people do too so thank you what's wrong with you have one card from Lauren Saginaw good evening happy summer to everybody first I'd like to a previous speaker and say thank you very extraordinary can say this to fill but now I'm very hopeful but thank you you are a great asset so thank you I also want to say welcome do I have my son's going into a second-year preschool at the El Rincon fight with Miss Marie and methelda and supple it's fantastic program and work side as a part of it so welcome and my last order of business so we if you call I came and talked to you a couple months ago about having a yeah decide if though I did a little legwork because one of the that was mentioned was the accpd maybe having an issue so I called and I to our community outreach officer detective Casillas and he actually said that just because unfortunately the change it environment that they now actually do recommend having privacy screens just because it makes it hard for people to see in and he absolutely we agreed that there's a location that would be very well served by having some kind of privacy just around that indoor play yard which is again the corner of Overland and SWAT so I just wanted to reap resent that I did to the board is if it could be something that you guys put on your agenda and consider for for the El Rincon Kinder play area so thank you thank you  sticky note for a minute to write that pit moron  Jody did you want to speak look like Lake Geneva I just wanted to say thanks it is absolute terrific your support the parents your focus on the students all I learn from you you know most of everything I did right at council president was thanks Chief and the extraordinary team you put together and it's true that there are big shoes to fill but it's true that you've left a great meme then I think he's going to just be thanking his lucky stars that he got all okay thanks if there's the father women's from members of the audience so we can move on to the school part  and I forgot whose turn bill it started that at Kelly so the playgrounds are going in woohoo and he know this board have been a lot of time together silly lot of time together because we've been working on this very important decision and  so it was it was a powerful process it was really Canadian to get to work with these books and to you know because Anna and I are relatively new we just came for November and December and so getting sort of thrown into the deep end that's something I don't know if if I recommend it or not but so we had to take on what is probably the most important decision that you know we're making a school board members right and and it's it was a really incredible learning experience I have to getting to know these guys professionally and having so much respect for that and you know I don't normally want to take this time up here to talk about the board or so for that I don't necessarily think that's appropriate but I just feel compelled to highlight that we received I want to say I don't know 3 or 4 compliments from candidates from Consultants from other people who said that we were unusual bored in that we were very respectful of each other good listeners good teammates even when there were disagreements they were dealt with such diplomacy and and good listening that I just took it to be a which compliment and I just meant to say thank you to my colleague for all of that because you know it's that's not that doesn't come without work right that makes effort and and a real commitment to be productive and being proven by meeting needs of students first right and so I just I just think that means something that we heard that a number of times and I wanted to let the public know that that happened so thank you for that  thanks in yeah but the past two weeks is not a lot of time on on the particular very important task of finding a new super pennant I just want to thank Dave for working with me for the past 4 years I'm through some ups and downs and and interesting conversations and situations and events and that's in that time and really up so enjoyed getting to know you and consider you a friend and and look forward hearing where you going and what you going to be doing and who's the team's you're going to be exciting and in what states getting them to  get on traffic get their act together and work together as a team and and really understand who played a good that that were some kids and that's really kind of that kind of it that's kind of the bottom line supper thanks and perfume I guess what Ellie said and nothing we win together and what I would say is yes for kipley and I who are brand-spanking-new the one thing I'm very grateful for given the any at the compliments in the feedback we received really grateful that his new school board members we were raised like we came in his bees and we were asleep part of this family and had great teammates board members crew cab add just a great team of people to work with with amazing respect and vibration and Troop you know ethics and morals deep down terms of how we just deal with people and how we're going to get the business done so I would say that that you know I appreciate that too like that moving forward now we really that's part of our are aging was done well so and then Dave even though it was short time remember prior to that I was you know I was just a parent and there was a clear transition in culture shift intra-district when you came on absolutely and I felt that and it's definitely moved in an amazing positive direction I am faith do sell but I wish you much success in your future Avengers thank you okay Kelly this Leslie words thank you but I would also like to say that the two newest board members also walked in the door with a very open mind and collaborative attitude which made that a lot easier it has been a very voltore complex. what fishing task to find a replacement I feel extremely good about our choice and I know that Josh will continue on with the very positive culture that we have going on child Pocus culture that we have going on just, also I just like to backing up a bit the process of doing this and has to remain confidential a lot of people that want that might want to interview for this kind of position don't want to walk into the district office where people might say I put it you know so it's over there doing the place to interview so I just wanted to thank Chamber of Commerce for giving us a space that was off site the interview twin that didn't cost the district any money to rent the so just a thanks to Chamber of Commerce for giving us that space just in case it one wondered why we were there that's the reason and then finally I would just like to say thank you to you have been superintendent of highest integrity and commitment to our children and our staff and for that I'm grateful great as a parent I'm grateful as a board member I'm grateful as a community member that that was your approach to everything you did you had a an absolute dedication to the whole tiled and to making sure that every child in this District without exception was well-educated and cared for and we are up all very proud to be a part of of that culture that that you established in and work best to create and I'm grateful to be a part of it my I enjoyed working with you it was always an absolute pleasure to sit down and talk to you we didn't always agree that's okay I don't expect that it has been us to complete absolute pleasure to work with you and I wish you the very best in your future endeavors I know that they will go well for you because of who you are and I will miss you and I have a lot of comments from the board for you this we will make him read the card out loud or anything  Steve is that where I should spell shocks and I'm innocent the kind of feeling that way thank you very much alright imma try to something but you have all heard whether it over 4 years whether it's a conversation with me conversation with Katie Leslie Mike Rebecca is his let's be clear let's make sure that we're clear on what we do we have limit time limited resources so let's make sure I'm clear of our purpose that should have Clarity of our practice and drive Clarity of and 4 and front are people I think this is Ben and with the Mantra of of the board relationship in the piece that we've had over the years that can be a lot of interest and lot a lot of as I've been for Wellington idea strategies potential I know Katie and I make jokes about how many templates we get on on a daily basis that demonstrate the next new Silver Bullet and education that we investing in also to maintain our Focus we shouldn't distract it and and in some respects we have to be in a position to be crystal clear about what exist and that does help us in those circumstances would we have to say no and we've opened parents so we know that what are kids believe it when we no that means don't love them parents we know means exactly the opposite so we can together to not say what we going to say no but what are the things that will absolutely positively not waiver and what we say yes to I think that that's the work that we've done I'm blessed to not only beautiful wife but she some very talented creative I said hey honey I'm trying to come up with something around something some visual that represents the four core elements of our organization and and so stepping into the Culver City Star because each and every one of our children's Our Stars how about what are those foundational elements of professional learning communities the Labor Management relations partnership that we've developed the Mantra of success for all Texas all that that is really about our purpose and our practices strategic plan is why we accept access for all and it's our practice takes us all so how to how do we have that of a focus but also in the focus of the definition that we want for our own is there success as not to do a singular assessment it is tied to their growth in their development and their hope for the future and and the opportunities that we provide for them not to ensure that they are successful physically socially emotionally in academically so what does that look like you have seen this format just just from an image stamp point I know there were the time where we had District goals are born Bulls in the 63 of them and and whose were they and them and what we were doing with them working together to say you know we going to have 3 of primary areas of focus number one is Student Success of the second is we will be resourceful and responsible because we have limited can we have limited resources we have limited people puts make sure we're investing those wisely and then how do we harness the immunity that we have and Partnerships within our organization set of organization to add the reason that we exist in that and that's learning theory that we created built on some some work with Steve zwieback for you to go but it was imagery of above and both the green line if we're going to our organizational culture we need to be as intentional about Mission Vision Values beliefs we are about creeper how do we intentional about what's both of the green line and above the green line our Mantra is what is compliant and put his compelling so I won't read through all of these for you what about the imagery that I wanted to highlight Rebecca wants me to hurry up turn lane out organization experts in their fields in their content areas awesome phenomenal instructional leaders but also of teachers themselves as an organization how do we harness Skip's in talents and that's by Framing it making sure that we have structure in the things that we want to beat about so when we done this work from a professional learning community that we want to be on what exactly does that mean if we are going to dedicate release time every single week what we are telling Mom and Dad's is this is so valuable for us we are going to choose to not teach your kids this amount of time every single and if that's the case then we have a commitment and a responsibility to make for the word tight about that I wanted to find it what is a professional learning community community and Frame It Around The Fantastic Four of Highly Effective collaborative themes number one there's one phone purpose to ensure high levels of learning all kids high levels all kids. Let Josh to don't know tomorrow we had that sense of debate high levels means all means all going on okay so number to their needs to be duke or beliefs that support that that fundamental purpose and one you need to move to that every single child is capable of learn how I love an important from an organizational effective we need to have that same belief within ourselves that we have the collective capacity and shared responsibility to make sure that they succeed so that's one three there's three big ideas of a professional Learning Community it is that is it from what we do which is the teaching what we manufacturing are kit the learning so it is a shift focus on learning it's done so within a collaborative culture with a belief for all kids and then it has to be a focus on results evidence evidence evidence how do we know what are value is how to if we say we have limited time and resources should we not only be measured the performance of the children but our own performance and that we are having an impact on kids and then for there are Fork what is it we want kids to know we look at this even more intensely to what is it that our kids can't afford not to know what are the things from a learning perspective that we know that if they do not future learning will suffer those of the types of things that we stop drop and roll on to the things that we intervene on those are the things that we change her schedules on those of the think that we change our investments on so what are the what is it that we want to get to know how do we know if they know how do we become systemic and targeted and specific around what we measure because when we get those results will know who got it will know who didn't will know what type of attention they need but will also know what practices and went instruction made a difference how do we respond as a system as a team when struggle our responsibility is only to be all things to all what's that's all that's all only that freaks people out but I'm leaving so I'll say it anyways but the idea is is but we can do it alone we cannot do it alone knowing that every gift talent but also struggles kids bring to the table there's no way that we can have that magic streaky every single job but we work together we can so it has to be systemic when we respond we could brogle and equally as important when we're Target around those kids who need more we also another population for also needs more thing at acceleration they need rigor so what is it we do with our students I want they already know it so that's the Fantastic Four how do we frame it around what's really important with this work  and this is your document as if you look at the bottom that's nice line which I think it's inspired I think it's relevant I think it's research but if we're going to do that and what are we going to be tight on need to be loose that empowers people to go in the things that they know best but we need to be tight on the framework that's going to make sure put this work gets done so are type or about teams will not openly have dedicated time but they will make Collective commitments about how they will behave they're operating on will be clearing the focus of the essential standards they will build in time to ensure that they have common formative assessments that measure measure that learning systemic intervention YouTube provide acceleration what's critical for our tools is that they also have leadership rooms and intervention teams where we're creating shared ownership often in our work in from work or sitting if it's perceived as top-down then everybody in our organization including staff and students are consumers of our Whipple what we want at not tumors we want owners we want people to own this and believe it and defend this and if you don't understand the difference think about how you treat the car and the last time you drove a all I'm going to say is shame on you  Clarity of our purpose Clarity of our people comes from the Partnerships to ever manage the visuals appear are the guiding principles of the partnership and that relationship we have from an administrative are classified and certificate in administrator fast at 6 we're all in this together I don't think there's a powerful statement that says we will not let our children fail we will not the people within the organization and at the end of the day this is what all about and that's that that's the framework it's looking at at the Fantastic Four professional Learning Community but when you look at those poor four elements that were looking at success Royal Texas off a commitment to the whole child we're going to do so with a strong relationship with all of those members of this family and we will pursue success for every child the whole child and so the platform is is a beautiful one it's one with a lot of owners and it's how to make the most significant difference for kids
