Chick-fil-A West Palm Beach Brady's good evening everyone thank you for being here tonight despite it being the first time the Dodgers were in the World Series since way too long we have nothing to the agenda as amended some of those in favor I Aunt Bee part I know I said that before the flag salute sorry yeah I said there were none sorry about that I did it out of order sorry 61 consent agenda schools and nominate a student for outstanding character and citizenship and it I'd like to ask superintendent Lockhart to read off hers hey first would like to recognize El Marino schools American citizenship award goes to Sophie Hackman at Sophie's on here with us this evening but we will speak lovingly about her right now so he is a hard-working friendly and caring student Sophie is now exploring new ways to good leader by applying to be in El Marino student council class representative you'll be able to hear her playing the all the alto recorder beautifully at the Winter concert in December since she has been practicing very hard Sophie Hackman as a role model for her class most recently as group leader for a social studies project she created a skit complete with movements to show the US geography congratulations Sophie El Rincon school's American citizenship award goes to Edinborough Aiden possesses many amazing qualities especially his own way rent ability to care about every one of his classmates and fellow rocket Aiden is very hard working and kind student is often a role model for the other students in Miss O'Brien's class congratulations 8 boarding schools American citizenship award goes to Autumn Jessie Autumn is a very special member of our Farragut School Community her commitment to community service is demonstrated by her participation in student council dedication and seriousness of keeping our school safe through our Hall Monitor program and her volunteerism at our fault most of all Autumn is a good friend to those who need it most she is kind and courageous and is an upstander for students who need support I'm honored and proud to recognize Autumn for all that she does for the Farragut School Community congratulations on Los Banos American citizenship award goes to Guillermo Lopez but I am loving you what is proud to name Guillermo or mammal as he is better known as our American Citizenship Award recipient you'd have to know his whole story to truly understand how important this is Guillermo has come a long way since beginning with a La Ballona part way through second grade because of his hard work and ownership of his learning plus the support of a group of Love Iona staff who have surrounded him and loved him he is a changed boy because of his academic and social growth Emma Watson around campus with a new air of confidence he is kind of more focused on his education he believes in himself so memo if you're out there listening keep smiling Love Diana is so proud of everything you have done we are glad to call you a member of our pride congratulations chiasmus Linwood e Howe school elementary school's American citizenship award goes to Marissa Rodriguez character counts describes citizenship as doing your part to make your community better during the first two months of the school year Marissa made her come you she better through her efforts to lead her peers and beautifying an overgrown area of our campus which they have now renamed the fairy garden Marissa spent her own time and money to create beautiful artwork create a beautiful stepping stone for the fairy garden Marissa we thank you for helping to create a beautiful fairy garden for all to enjoy congratulations Marissa Culver City Middle School's American citizenship award goes to Kennedy Wilson kennedy-wilson represents all that's good at CCMS Shane only maintains excellent grades participates in the Spanish Immersion program that is a where everyone belongs web leader it is the in this role as a web leader that Kennedy has shined making a difference on campus by making our income sixth grade students feel welcome additionally Kennedy is an office aide and constantly goes out of her way to help with all matters big or small congratulations Kennedy okay Culver City High School's American citizenship award goes to David Dumas David is a still student while carrying five advanced placement classes during his senior year of high school David is the president of the biotic Creek Renaissance Club in an active member of the green five Club additionally he plays the tenor sax in the call bent this summer David completed his boy scouts Eagle Scout award at cchs he organized and directed the painting of a mural in the staff Lounge which created a more relaxing environment in the lounge for our staff David exemplifies the Centaur pillars which are trustworthiness respect responsibility fairness caring and citizenship Culver City High School is proud to represent the amount Citizenship Award to David Dumas congratulations baby one more would you right here Delaware County Schools American citizenship award goes to Ryan Palm Coast super bouncing that right why has a huge Presence at our small cover Park Campus Ryan exudes Culver Pride we are so lucky to have had him join our school this year not only is he our well-spoken board representative but he is an active participant in many of the extracurricular opportunities we have Clover Park High School in fact he has been instrumental in starting many of them himself including the Culver Park Wolfpack Dance troupe in the Thursday morning breakfast club luckily Ryan's attendance is great as well because a day at Culver Park without Ryan would not feel the same Ryan brings a generosity of spirit and Community leadership to our school Community congratulations Ryan other guys that make a nice living I'm getting all of you yes exactly your parents if you're not sure you got a great picture trade pictures of one of the other parents yes evening board president has power board members cabinet and Community last night I was fortunate enough to attend the Grammy Awards celebration at the Grammy Museum with board president has Alice Heather Moses dr. Cooper and dr. tone celebration took place at the Grammy Museum and Culver City High School as along with Fulton College Robert Fulton College Preparatory High School Huntington Park High School and Manual Arts High School who all received the what time are the receive the Grammy which is also a $22,000 award to our music program which would be given in three different installments very proud of our students they all put together they put together all of our students with the bands of the other schools and they played on together it was really nice and very proud of our music program and proud of dr. Spano it was a wonderful evening at all so I could think Heather Moses after all the work that she did running outstanding front-and-center collaborative meeting today there were so many stakeholders from many of the different artistic groups that we work with as well as some of our foundations that we partner with bringing all those people together there's probably like 35 or 40 people I would in that room all focused on our students and artistic expression and what are the things that we're doing well and one of the things that we need to do I'm too grown to make sure we have a booming and successful theater collaboration so I'd like to say thank you to her she's been such a wonderful addition is our Arts coordinator she's doing a phenomenal job and then finally I I want to say thank you to our Culver City High School students for throwing a wonderful homecoming game celebration and a dance and I know that you're going to do about it but I have to say as a mom and as a interim superintendent it was just so nice that our students work so hard to have this great event we're just a lot of school spirit and just just a lot of great what's going on to dance the decorations the whole scheme for that I never thought that we would have a dance place at a lunch patio but it looked really really nice with the grease theme it was great and I also kind of want to send a special shout-out to 92.3 FM 92.3 The Beat and big boy is a cobra High graduate and they have shown a lot of love to our high school this year start with v the school year I think was a street team and one of her own students Nadine is a great DJ who came the first week of school but they brought to our tailgating Party YouTube sensation and I hope them saying this correctly dial and Te'o and Ayo and Teo guess who can forget Ayo and Te'o and the kids love seeing them perform I think I'm middle schoolers were even very excited about seeing them I got some video of I was in class and I was quite surprised when I saw child on stage also dancing that was a fun surprise but thank you was out then sorry up for my report am I really I want to take us back last week to the cardboard challenge it was such a huge success and I'm hopeful hoping that I had a chance to make your way out there there were hundreds of community members out there from all over the the different schools and who showed up for I am going to call this our inaugural event because I'm pretty sure we're going to be doing it again and from by by the comments from the from other parents from other schools they definitely want to do something similar at their own sites as well and it's really was really just a wonderful presentation of all of these tiny children telling how to play their games and the elaborate rules that they came up to my chest for you to throw a tiny little aluminum foil ball into one of these little holes in things like that he was he was just a wonderful Express can I have students ownership their creativity and I am looking forward to many more opportunities for students to Showcase their creativity and this was just really the first of many more to come this Thursday will hoping that people can join us for the AVP a fall music concert and you know that's going to be at the vets auditorium and I thought that. Dr. Spano did a wonderful recruiting effort This Time by including a 6 p.m. trick or treating around to include 2 to bring some of the younger kids over and have a chance to see what they themselves could see in high school so I want to give a shout out to dr. Spano if that was his idea or wherever he stole that from I think it's a genius I know a bunch of kids are going to be wanting to go attend the AVP for music concert this Thursday and our last call for submissions of Student Art for the peace project that is going to be going on during the time of the affair for the Arts that's what it's called The Affair the Arts is a Citywide Community event that's going to be happening on November 5th and the peace project is accepting submissions to cover that green barricade that is going around that area by the cover hotel and they are looking for 8 by 8 cardstock Student Art submissions on the subject of peace and boy if we could cover up that green space with just hundreds of pieces of Art I'm Student Art depicting a there their representations of pace I think that would just be a really wonderful demonstration for I'm all who passed through our our our town so hoping to see lots of Art we also are very pleased to announce that our school nurse nurses will be offering free flu vaccinations going to health and safety right now I'm flu shots will be offered to students and ccusd employees during the regular school hours and they started today I believe at the middle school and as well something different this year are nurses will be hosting an evening flu clinic for all elementary students family members and community members this Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the high school there Health office at the high school middle school so if anybody is interested there is a 2017 flu screening and consent form available on the website and I you need to bring that print that out and present it in order to get your flu shot so feel free to share that information with your neighbor's what I loved is a nurse Castro coming up to me and saying remember flu ends with you we are and I have information on that here president I'm bored at Callao I find it I was very entertained when I watch the video but I'll tell you how old I felt when we were going through that not only did I have no idea who they were but when I asked my 27 year old daughter who what she thought about it she had no idea who they were either so I'm like two generations removed at this point but it was very entertaining my twelve-year-old was excited that's what my daughter said you have probably more down there we did the great ShakeOut drill last week in the district office we kind of do incident command where we communicate with all the school sites centralized everything so we can keep going on I think logistically the schools and the district office we have it down well we need some more rehearsal Communications a little more challenging especially when you're talking about district-wide you know each school is trying to communicate not only internally the back to us so that's something that we're continuing to work on pretty much just adding more people the radios in their hand so we can keep track of everything I don't mention at the high school is in the running for the UCLA health sound body sound mind Grant I got this from Lisa Cooper we were talking about it the other day the grant would provide shorted $40,000 worth of exercise equipment like weight machines and standing bikes if they get the grant they would Implement that UCLA program Fitness curriculum for six weeks with at least 100 students and then provide feedback school was already reviewed the curriculum and agreed to implement it if they get the Grant in one of their PE. So we'll keep you updated as we go to that but it sounds really cool but I didn't mention the new parking area in the Olympia space should be open and ready for actually on Thursday this week it's not quite going to be ready tomorrow adding 6070 spaces to what we had out there before so that should relieve a lot of the congestion coming up of course as we all keep saying it's just a temporary until we decide what kind of facility we want to put it out there in the future Illinois lottery last night I'm looking forward to spending some time with Mike Reynolds on Friday Leslie and I are going up to San Francisco for the bond rating presentation Mike will be there Sandy are actually driving up cuz as you may know Sandy doesn't like flying so they're going to make a little weekend vacation out of it so we'll see him on Friday and get to hang out kids official last day is next week November 1st so we're trying to get him into the office before going away party sometime probably in November so we'll let you all know when we schedule that we thought about doing it on Halloween and then having all the business services dress up as Elvis Presley cuz I don't know if you saw does Elvis impersonation you just like greet him with the whole group but we didn't want to take away from his retirement and make it about Halloween so we're going to do it separately that's it thank you you can still do that we're doing we're doing the heroes is going that's a good point I forgot to add one thing is that we do have a board workshop on November 7th and to make sure I stay that publicly were talking about packing and I'm going to check sweet Maiden next steps right onto the student Representatives reports and I will start with Miss Miller good afternoon or good evening for it I would save public it was really here so see you soon as had our sixth and seventh grade Pride Awards last Tuesday and Thursday which is really good because we were able to go over what Pride stands for its ECM ask and we were also able to come out with our pencil succ messaging something really cool it's kind of really like Disneyland for me it's where everyone gets to collect these cool pans and everyone has them on their backpack and their shirt I have one for being bilingual one for speak on for 8th grade and basically you collect pins like for any fun Friday and the after-school class anything you do that relates to CCMS and everyone's like wearing them when you walk down the halls and you're supposed to have eight grade Pirates day but is way too hot for you sitting outside for that long so we're going to hope that it cools down by Thursday so we can do it then as you may or may not know are Haunted Hallway is on the 27th and we would love to see all of you guys there cuz it's open to the public it is our biggest fundraiser of the year and its Carnival so like if clowns is not your thing you can still come because you can buy a piece of pizza or something like that also me documents from our Castle conference so the years ahead of SB can just learn about the conference without going we have started a dance troupe in a lot of clubs and activities like during lunch and after school so kids have to be in the hot sun they can be inside classrooms like I'm apart of a really big club during lunch on Thursday that's ladies who lunch it's like a bunch of girls I don't even know some of them it's so many girls and we all get too so Verizon eat lunch together and Miss Morris room and a lot of people went to the homecoming game it's a big talking subjects is really fun that's it thank you Ryan Edwards a lot of great news actually sell on we are offering a college classes on campus from West LA College and Miss Montreal Bodie the starting of fun and fundraiser donor's choice Clover Park website and it's about a field trip to a rope course where it's kind of teaching wait for students to help with struggles and different like oceans and to work together and yeah and on Monday will be having the dance during brunch and a potluck during brunch also on Tuesday will be having a costume contest so this on neck just making sure on Wednesday will be selling a sugar skulls and on Thursday I will be having like a little Memorial or am trying to I'm not sure how to call it but like a memorial then people who have passed away for the other los Muertos Day of the Dead and try to wrap pumpkin carving and that's it thank you so much great Edgar I'm sorry thanks are you see all your fault so my whole report is pretty much on homecoming because I think the big top I got everybody talking about so the homecoming tailgate it was amazing so many clothes were selling food drinks such as lasagna loaded nachos horchata just so many food that I ate. Just forgot and also a special things to 92.3 The Beat and Miss Target as well as the outcome and a lot of my friends. let me know all the actually going to be at the high school is like I'm not sure but you should definitely come through and you know it was it was surprising and that's a bad we had the homecoming game I am should I Scobee Hawthorne 4720 I unfortunately didn't attend the game because I was working with the time halftime show and I heard he didn't play the fourth quarter and that's freeze pretty amazing then going home come and get me out of the homecoming halftime show it was amazing be got for vehicles around the track representing each class Council and for the vehicles were based around the time frame of the weather in Greece so it was pretty much you know classic cars and we made a float for the movie Grease and we also had dance team band and colorguard perform and homecoming dance last where are the theme was Wizard of Oz and we thought we wouldn't be able to break you know our record of how many tickets we sold so last year we sold 697 and this year we sold 836 tickets in total That's not including the people who forgot or you know I forgot to buy a lot of people on the waiting list but unfortunately they waited till the last minute and the decorations were amazing mayonnaise be he went to high school at 10 in the morning to set up everything and it just looked amazing and we received a huge donation of over 600 sandwiches from Sorrento's Italian Market a special thanks to albavera and we also had injuries playing nice to the cafeteria also for people who didn't want to dance and it was pretty cool and we also had a photo booth and Ashley Coursey place Monica this Friday big viral young teens thank you okay and I I don't think I have any oh yes cards cuz I don't have much of sardines tonight already on the members of the board let's start with okay I have one business items first every December we reorganize and we've talked about amending our bylaws to include language about painting of Vice President so I want to ask if we can put it on next meeting's agenda to get that done before December yeah we look at that would agree with that right we talked about it before you have enough time for December to figure out what we want to do and if we need to add to meetings but will get it on one of them and if we need to look at it twice do we need to revisit that exaggerated it is so let's just think about it would be great if it could be next meeting so we can look at it twice if we need to the 14th 14th and then I used to use the events I have to report out on are the fabulous color Park back to school night because we got to see your dancing and you guys were such rock stars I brought my kids to that back to school night which is not typically the protocol but you totally inspired them and they were beside themselves with excitement and it was a really fabulous job thank you for that go to the front and center collaborative meeting today that Heather Moses is leading as we write a district-wide Arts plan and you know it's it's moving to be in that room full of people who are all moved to bring Arts integration can't all students and it feels like we're going to be able to accomplish a lot this year and in the years going forward with a plan to work from so I'm excited about that work and I have one more actually business announcement which is that so there are some City Bicycle and pedestrian improvements happening around La by owner so on November 4th love I own is having a fall festival their Fall Festival that they have every year and there's going to be a booth there where you can stop by and get some information on the changes for the bicycle pedestrian action plan and what's going to happen around a lot of Iona specifically am I saying that right I'm so so people should go check that out because there should be interesting stuff happening there yeah the pictures of cool the diagrams not much more to add what's up very quickly at the high school back to school night which is always very different than the Elementary School back to school night. It was Fanfare and much more just parents and students running back and forth didn't get to attend one of my favorite one Jessica Parker I was sick so sorry to miss it I did want to get a little clarification on the donors choose the fundraiser I just tried to click on the link and it wasn't didn't go anywhere just as a heads up but it's to raise money for the students to go on that trip yes correct okay and didn't you know how much you're hoping to raise I believe it's around 6,000 we donated $50 so far and your goal and that within the field trip would take place in the spring I'm not sure yet because we're just waiting till we have the amount I'm not sure you're at figure that out I'll probably bring it up next meeting cuz I was team building and what is building a field trips I've done before with other groups and their great so I think I'll be something super worthwhile if we could figure out how to make sure you guys raise the money how we can make sure Clover Park has the resources Fierce just be able to go to that so if you're great and I'm go Dodgers okay I will let see for so I went to farragut's Fall Festival on Saturday and got to get dunked in the dunk tank a whole bunch of times the Killer By the way which was a lot of fun I hope you know I showed up with a tie on cuz I figured if you're going to be doing is worth overdoing it was really cool it was really fun I'm sorry I missed a bunch of other things I've been out a lot for work and there's more coming up I'm I did want to mention though I ran into Bob knob at that Farragut Fall Festival he's got a grandkid there and we chatted a little bit and I had to realize he was a csb a director at one point and I asked him if he was willing to come by sometime and talk to us about the value that brings to The District in the pros and cons and stuff like that about you know trying to have somebody be more be more involved with csba ways to do that and then of course she moved country about the nerve love you Summer but still takes a certain so if the rest of the board thinks it's worth while he's willing I'd like to invite him to come it was about it some definitely you want to put on the agenda or should we can figure out when's a good time with you going to give Leslie or Rebecca his number and we can work find a time and we we just put on the agenda he meant map be available to talk for a few minutes as a just a public speaking you know I would pull the card or actually put it on the agenda we can put on the agenda for 5 minutes or innovate minutes otherwise only gets three other one is fresh oh yeah hot sauce and follow up on that couple other things I went to a conference at Vanderbilt that was about Tennessee that was about iBooks and there was a very interesting example one of the books they were talking about was mostly about how people iBooks author in writing books and so forth but one of them was a physics textbook for a local private school that was entirely on the iBook with the huge amount of info in it for of like videos of demonstrations and students who'd been in the car a student had their stuff in in the park and interactive things to work on experiments and it was also part of this physics first initiative where they were doing physics in 9th grade seem really dyeable American physical Society has been pushing physics first I just thought I'd pass it along I actually bought a copy of the book I can show it to you if you think that's interesting or worth looking at not so much that we would want that particular book as think about as we move into the future we have a lot more technology in the classroom the advantages of having books that can be interactive and have video on the mend so forth and how we would use them at all I know we do a bunch of elementary school so I thought I'd pass it on we have partnership meetings coming up we have a liaison meeting coming up soon unfortunately going to be out of town again I think on November 7th I'll try to I don't have much control over my work schedule in that regard but I'll try to at least see if I can go purchase a better conference telephone how to use the workshop right but it's Workshop first exactly to my 40th high school reunion on Saturday so if you guys can realize how old I am and I can realize how important those relationships are from high school what we do right there were a whole lot of they're talking about how you know what they did in their lives was influenced by you know what they learned in high school and and they the interactions they had so it's just a reminder of how important that stuff is it what we do I'm sorry I missed a vpa thing I'm missing a lot of abpa stuff but I have a memorial service to go to so sweetest but I think that's all mixtape onto summer and just the same Steve you always apologize for missing so much but that's why there's 5 of us got your back regarding the donors choose maybe already do this but do you send those out to like the high school to Culver City High School when they know the benefit of having two thousand students or 1,600 students are 500 students even at the elementary schools that even when only half of them give you can still meet you and with Clover Park having so few students do you send those out to the high school to get those students to their their peers yeah if they can support their peers and I'm sure you would get a good response from that but also make sure you send the link to us we can share it too throughout the district exactly the problem Sedona back a couple week finishing off the back to school night so I went to the office of Child Development back to school night it was great cuz I have a three-year-old and he loves it he says Miss Marie is his favorite I'm not jealous it's okay I was prepared for it I also went to and it was really interesting to see even in the preschool environment this is not just a play room where their finger paint and building with blocks there is a curriculum and they are focusing on preparing those students for kindergarten and I was so happy also attended the Culver Park back to school night and I was blown away I enjoyed myself so much I visited several of the classrooms and it's such an intimate learning environment and it's exactly what the students need to feel connected and Phil engaged and challenged and you perform to one of my favorite Beyonce song that I really enjoyed that I also attended the Makerspace cardboard challenge at El Rincon with so many of the El Rincon and Farragut families and I can wait until we can fill an entire blacktop at any one of the schools with cardboard arcades from all of our elementary schools and just see the creativity in the in the students and it was nice to bring together tattoo schools families from the two schools they got to know each other and there was you couldn't tell who was from which school because the students were just interacting with each other and having a really good time I attended the inclusion respect and diversity task force meeting with Kelly and we had a really good conversation some forward-thinking and about being proactive with regards to maybe some antibodies training because truth be told we all have biases all of us every single one of us then we have to be cognizant of those biases and being the diver school district that we are we have to also be honest about our weaknesses and proactive and intentional better response to those weaknesses and always striving to be better so we had that conversation it was a good conversation and a good place to start and I really appreciate Tracy for facilitating that conversation and pushing us forward Culver City homecoming 4708 pretty awesome as well but halfway through we stopped cheering cuz it just felt bad right and then we looked up and it was the end of the third quarter we were all going home so I really didn't have a fourth-quarter they did not the scoreboard went off and teams packed up and went home so yeah cover pride and this is Red Ribbon Week and the schools are celebrating Red Ribbon Week I'll be at well setting up I won't be there all day but at the middle school you can put your hand in some red paint and on the wall and make a pledge and a lot of elementary schools are wearing red or silly socks and stuff to celebrate it but something that's not silly is that they you know an issue with young people and then I'm relying on substances that they don't need in their bodies and I just want to encourage any parents that are listening talk to your kids don't just let Red Ribbon Week be a novelty or formality that we do because it's mandated that we acknowledge this use this time I use it as a catalyst those flyers that come home actually read them and talk to your kids Red Ribbon.
