Health Services

Welcome to CCUSD Health Services

See below for more information

There are two different entities who provide health services to students and their families in our district.

There are four full-time School Nurses (Registered Nurses with a special credential in School Nursing) working within the district every day attending to the health and wellness of our students. Each Credentialed School Nurse is responsible for managing multiple school sites daily. Each elementary school has been assigned a Credentialed School Nurse, who is physically present on that campus at least two days per week. And due to the large number of students at CCMS and CCHS combined, there is a full-time School Nurse on the MS/HS campus Monday through Friday during normal school hours. We also have two LVNs and three health technicians working across all schools.

Here are some of the daily health services that we provide to CCUSD students:

  • First aid for minor injuries

  • Assess acute illness and injury (stomach ache, sore throat, hurt ankle, etc.)

  • Evaluate and treat chronic health conditions (asthma, diabetes, etc.)

  • Administer medication that has been authorized by the student’s doctor (click HERE to download the Medication Authorization form)

  • Respond to Emergency situations

  • Health Education for Students

The School Nurses also perform screenings throughout the year: dental (K-5), color vision (1st grade boys), and vision/hearing (across multiple grades from K-12). Referrals will be provided as needed.

School Nurses administer FREE Flu vaccines district-wide from October – December; parents must give consent for this service.

FREE Tuberculosis (TB) Risk Assessment Questionnaires and skin tests are provided at the MS/HS Nurse's Office for all school staff and volunteers.

The Sandy Segal Youth Health Center (SSYHC) is located on the MS/HS campus next to the Nurse’s Office.  This school-based health center was established to provide additional health services to our students and families. These additional services are available on-campus due to the community partnership between CCUSD and Venice Family Clinic (VFC), which provides both physical medicine services and mental health services.

Physical Medicine Services include: well child visits, sports physicals, assessment of acute illnesses, treatment and management of chronic conditions, prescription medication, and evaluation of reproductive health (including family planning, pregnancy testing, and screenings for sexually transmitted infections). These services are available to all CCUSD children under the age of 18.  A parental consent is required in order for students to be examined (except for reproductive health; students are allowed to provide their own consent for these services). The SSYHC Medical and Mental Health Consent form is available below.

For more information or to schedule an appointment,

please contact the VFC call-center phone: 310-392-8636:

Hours of operation on our campus: Mondays and Wednesdays only, 8 AM – 12 Noon.

Mental Health Services include:   individual and group counseling services are offered to middle and high school students for a variety of mental health issues - anxiety, problems with peer interactions/social difficulties, divorce of parents, death in the family, low self-esteem, substance abuse, anger management issues, etc. The counseling services are provided by Marriage and Family Therapist interns, Licensed Clinical Social Work interns, and many licensed professionals already in private practice who donate their time to help our CCUSD students. Parents can request mental health services for their MS/HS children by speaking with a guidance counselor or School Nurse; teachers and other school staff may also make referrals.  Written parental consent is preferred (but not required) for ongoing counseling services. The SSYHC Medical and Mental Health Consent form is available below.
