here we go so thank you again for coming this is our meeting agenda but I put a a pretty picture here because we're all stuck at home and I thought we could all take one second to just sit back and and breathe in and pretend like we're in the outdoors and with clean fresh air so she will join me just for 10 seconds to breathe in and out thank you so we're going to talk about the environmental scholarships we were going to have Julie Garcia but she couldn't make it minute and so we have the pleasure of having a different Club presidents to talk about the high school club president start of the high school clubs your present on their groups bring you up-to-date on what we're doing behind the scenes an update on grades of green are gardening projects a new idea for the new year we're going to talk about it adopting a climate action plan for our district will send you home with the green tip and then we'll open up the discussion of course you can you're welcome to participate paid at anytime in this presentation so feel free to dude I can't see all of you so just go ahead and unmute yourself and interrupt that's it's not a problem so I just want to let you know that last year green five had a scholarship that was awarded to Zoe alamia alamia the scholarships are only for seniors and so I wanted to make sure that all of the students in our committee know about all these different scholarship opportunities and there are many I don't know how many but it might be close to a hundred I just asked about the green 5 and there is no funding for it this year so this is maybe something that we can think about and see if we can help fund it again it's $1,000 and so you know it goes towards someone who's in support of the environments and Zoe was the copra and if the by owner Creek Renaissance Club she sent a beautiful note this week and it was it's just so exciting when students are rewarded for their voluntary work and for their care for the environment so Vienna Creek Renaissance is creating a scholarship this year for to support one student it'll be $1,000 and they'll be some criteria for the student to apply but I just wanted to let you know about that and then wondering if the Beast yard Club should have a middle school club so that's something to discuss but what do you think about having trying to fundraise to keep the green V scholarship going and green 5 was if you're not familiar it was a campaign that started with Shay Cunningham maybe four years ago some of you know it better than I do but what do you think about having you know it's a scholarship fundraiser and how yeah go ahead Venice how much would you need to raise the amount of money for the scholarship $1,000 or would you need more I think it's good I think it could be the minute is 500 but I'm not sure if there's a minimum I think it's ours than is decent so it could be that this VCR scholarship will replace green 5 but I think it might be nice have to environmental scholarships so we could chuck ahead I was just going to say one of the ways you could you probably could fundraise and see if you do it through a restaurant like you go to the restaurant you get a certain percentage the problem with that is I don't think we're going to be able to make $500 from that unless you really are able to push up people to go that's a good point anyone else have Katie you have an idea also within the restaurants if we plan it out well enough I feel like if we tried to do one every month or like a different restaurant maybe in because for ASP we try to find restaurants in downtown Culver City Select families go to school Candice easily go there they lived near there but I've also been trying to reach out to different restaurants because we're trying to do a fundraiser and I'm trying to see like which ones in that area are doing fundraisers right now so I can you know like that information to yeah that's a great idea Melissa you wanted to cuz that's what's nice about this idea is you know it incorporates all of the schools so you could would you beat a one a week I know for Farragut that you know they finally change them to do like a three-day and so we don't torture the restaurant up a repeat of one night so we probably could you know do you want a week if cuz it's for all five five elementary schools and middle school and high school but that I think it would be great and I'd have to look into what we could do is to sell environmentally friendly products that might benefit the kids the families or whatever we're there that's you know like the wax wraps or you know Lake sustainable pack sing for lunches or something along those lines would be great and a joke but I think it would be awesome if somebody could do a bee farm and we could like get the honey and seven Culver City honey sing about honey and where the things are so I think you would have an issue having beehives on school premises and all other somewhere super in Culver City Mark that would be really cool to have we would need someone to lead that effort who knows something about beehive than and you know just lost there is somebody I can reach out to you she's doing the office is what she's putting them on the roofs of offices so we couldn't you pick a few roof and Culver City and say like hey want to let me borrow some Bruce for honeybees so but I'll talk to her and see if she baby Sony can you tell a honey bee honey girl Honey Grove Grove I think is what her Instagram that's her business she actually like helps companies become more green so she is putting honey bee hive local buildings in Santa Monica and stuff like that the Kool-Aid I mean by the time that we get honey we I think our year would be over the rights to the Future I love it I love it and Venice you Annette go ahead yeah I was wondering for the honey bees go to that cost because I know that maintaining the hives throughout the year probably going to be a decent expenditure on our school so I don't know how much money we're going to make it back by doing that I've no idea hence I will reach out perhaps buying a set of reusable utensils and water bottles maybe I believe we were handing them out for free though there were green five green five water bottles in factum Alison if you could ask is it Allison if you could ask her I'm sorry I'm forgetting her name right now Annika if she has any further from the T-shirt store any of the items I had the green 5 Merc maybe we could try to sell that for very cheap but it could you know if we add the restaurants cuz it's a percent restaurants donate what what percent of how does it work go ahead Venice benefits of the sophomore class recently did a fundraiser on the basically you you set it up with the restaurant and you reach a certain quota to go in there and send their fundraising for a club like Jeff to make at least $50 or something and then out of all that money that you got that people come and say oh I'm buying it for this club in about like 20 15 to 20%. What rest concert are doing that now if it's is there anybody that's not a chain that's doing it cuz the restaurants are hurting downtown I think Allegra is doing one this Sunday night downtown actually the super domestic coffee is doing a fox latte for for Farragut the there's been a whole series of them that burger place what song did I just order from a wet sand types have been doing them in pizza we ordered from a kind of try to like help out everyone to hear that cuz I know that they're all struggling my suggestion was between five elementary schools and even OCD the middle school high schools we could support seven different restaurants a week just by asking skin I like your tape they like it cuz we her and then the school gets money it's been a really big win-win so I don't know if the other schools are doing this but the only money that Lynn how has that is directly put towards green tea stuff is I'm through Farm Fresh to you farm fresh to you has a deal set up with our school and what that is it's a it's a CSA community supported agriculture organic it's an organic farm in Cal horny with a partner with other organic farms in California you get a box delivered to your house with fruits and vegetables but the nice thing about farm fresh as you can customize it so you don't get like 50 pounds of turnips if you want them you can get different sizes you can which wheat how many weeks you can get it every other week blah blah blah you can add on eggs grains rice cookies all kinds of stuff but we have a very very nice deal with them where they give our school ten percent end of all proceeds through people who have our Arco a promo code and I think they've since alter the program to 5% for new people joining but Berlin how that's where all of our green money comes from is our fresh stuff and if the green five scholarship is going towards us like high school kids for example I don't know if the high school is set up with that program but it's really easy money because a lot of people in Culver City are subscribers to Farm Fresh to you and I probably shouldn't tell you cuz we get a lot from it but it would be a good long-term if you wanted like to fund a specific Environmental I would recommend looking into that that's great idea I love all these ideas and in fact I didn't think it would be such a a good conversation so let us come back to you with some ideas and let's work on trying to get it what's up you know we could actually just ask for money as well and I don't know if we could do the same through the Culver City Education Foundation you know maybe maybe final it through them so you know something we can talk about how about we agendize it next time for you no more in-depth conversation I'm the representative role in how so I can email the lady and just say how do you feel about this but if I don't know how you specify it to go towards just the scholarship unless there was somebody at the high school directing it in that way yeah yeah there's a whole process some about how you fund the scholarship exactly I also I found out like in June that there was a scholarship available so and students knew about it so I'm not sure I need to find out a little more and more myself so do you think that having a b c r Club Middle School club would be well I'm not sure that the Middle School actually doesn't Club so I don't know but maybe some kind of like after the program would work all right well we can talk about it with our featured guests as well so thank you so much to the high school club president we're coming in and replacing Julie today and and we it's a nice time to highlight you guys you're here even during finals so kudos to you hope you're doing well and just want to hear about what you're doing and it's specifically your goals and how our committee can help you with yours so Katie do you want to go first so basically this year this semester so far our main source of communication has been through the I think I mentioned this before in previous meetings on this Wednesday videos what are the videos that go out every Wednesday and we've been doing for Halloween we did like a pumpkin how did like reuse pumpkins in like different forms like pumpkin latte whatever so we did a bunch of video that and then this next semester after break we're going to start a project we came up with the green Deeds project where we're going to film each one of us are going to film different steps of like how to make a garden or you know different steps to gardening so all of us are going to try to work to plan something we want we're each going to pick like a plan like for example tomato plants and we're going to like film the process and then I remember last meeting I mentioned something about this and someone said that they're also like creating gardening kits and I just thought I'd this is not at all possible but I thought that would be a good incentive for students after we finish with our like whole step process we can say oh you can do the same thing you just did you know with like those kids and like yeah I don't know how would that how that would work but I thought that would be a good idea but yeah actually we have a whole slide on what we're going to be doing and making some suggestion so this ties in really well with that slide the video to watch something grow so it'll be like a fast forward on it yeah I think we it's just going to do our own like steps through gardening and we're going to tell him like every once in a while until they grow as excellent and then ASP you guys have a is it a risk clean department or how do you we have yeah last year we had recycling coordinators and there's three of us me and Alina work two of them and then here we still have recycling coordinators but now we also have an environmental sustainability committee so it's too because I think that there with the recycling coordinators were not used as much right now because we're not in school everything we did last year was like put up posters or direct videos for assemblies but that was all in person so yeah we're mainly just using the environmental sustainability group just for slime videos and like different ideas with that the you meet how often we meet every week on Monday okay so this is in addition to a s just regular ASP. That's excellent how many you and your group there's about 12 of us so a lot of a lot of kids want to just you yeah in fact we you'll see in our presentation we may have some projects for you that you can it's so definitely we want to like do whatever we I think well I'd have to verify if we can get you on campus at 2 to go to the high school and help us with a specific project so when we get there I'll I'll mention it very cool anything else you want to share that was it I know it's not a lot but there's not much we can do it cuz there's RSP teacher mentioned something about how someone is willing to like plant stuff on campus or like that was an idea and like our mini wanted to like jump at the end we can't get on campus so everything we've been doing has been virtual well let's focus let's try to get you on campus I I don't know if it's possible and I mean some students are there so they're even if it's just like a small group of us yeah I think that's what we should work towards more grates and then who is representing the sunrise today can I say something to Katie go ahead so Katie give him the virtual environment were in and all that I'd be very very interested in and coming in meeting with you guys on some Monday so you know being in my University I can transfer some of that information if you guys are interested in it but I'm curious to be with you guys at least once if you don't if you're interested I'd love an invitation ideas have kind of just spend like doing stuff like gardening or recycling you know different green Deeds but I think it would help a lot if you were to come in I'm not saying like teach us everything you know but maybe a little like lesson because I feel like a what does us but like a lot of students we will act like the knowledge unlike what's actually going on in like how we can actually help so that's a good first step as soon as it starts okay perfect email send a chat box right now okay to say missing because you're about what you're doing also so great suggestion Rania so who's here to represent sunrise I think Elena is the sunrise contact but she does here to be in the room is Venice cruise and Genesis are you in the sunrise group yeah so due to the circumstances we like can't do that much but we did have a protest and we walk we had a banner drop and we walked to the Culver City downtown but due to circumstances. A lot of people wet but for the people who didn't send the protest with pumping and we also have found things like three times already and we are planning to like do another protest and hopefully more people come and we are like when we come back from you break we are going to have a phone bank what are you protesting and what is the phone banking for I'm so we proceed protested for like the green tedium and we like good speeches and the phone banking is for like we are phone banking for like candidates for the office that are like that support the green New Deal so we're like calling people to like vote for them for weekend email to save our environment so yeah your group is has its environmental but it's also political Graham why don't you involved are our group as well maybe we can help share the information for you when you have something going on you know we have a list of a hundred and fifty members by the way you're officially in a member when you join our meeting yeah we can do that because like we're kind of running out of ideas so when you like more ideas and what to do so that would be a good idea okay that sounds good I mean we could also attend your meeting one time and brainstorm with you in a project how many are you in Sunrise around like 18 or like 15 that's fantastic and I think that was it you this or Delena that spoke with Jeff here on the zoom to set up a sunrise Club in the middle school if you want to share a little spoke with telling a story a dog barking in there from a couple days ago and she said there they were in touch with someone at CCMS to Rally some of the 8th graders to get a hub go in I'm sorry I talked to the counselor in two days ago and she said yeah where we got the call we want to we have some people in mind I think that were interested so I think they're generating interest to get back going hopefully sounds like that that's great if you guys have Charters or policies or anything that you want to share with us so that we have an idea of who you know we can share it with the whole group and maybe send it a and also maybe recruit that'll recruit help you recruit more students or feel free to send that over and me I don't know if you I kind of called on you last minute you wanted to share what you with the Beast yard hi so it's my first meeting so my name is Mia Cassidy as I said I'm a student at Culver High and I'm president of the bionic Renaissance code 32 kids in our group and recently during covid-19 cleanups where we go near the bionic Creek and we pick up trash usually we would actually on the creek and we would go are the bridges and pick up trash but we haven't been able to do that so we could just spend kind of going around the neighborhood we're currently in a campaign with grades of green and we just started face too so we're working on a project at work are you doing but hopefully next semester things will start opening up again and covid-19 Sweden start doing more things and doing things in person that's great thank you so much and how many in Club we have about 32 32 kids who come to our Zoo meeting and then at the cleanups we've had 15 to 20 kids which a couple of them even in the club they just come to the cleanups just pick up trash at to get community service hours so it's really cool when it's a good way to see you know people from our school and see our friends in person while still doing an activity and rings yeah that's great so do your different clubs work together at all or do you are you all separate or how does it work well actually I did a zoom with all of us I think five or six environmental clubs and she emailed all of the presidents and we did our own little soon where we just kind of talked with each other and discuss what we were doing and what we were planning for the semester and just kind of helping each other out if we need anything or if we need any ideas or suggestions or support we haven't really done a call or zoom in a while but we do have a group chat on Instagram so we always have a way to contact each other and work together to invite all your members to come to our committee as well I think if we all work together I don't even know about the other environmental Club you said there five of them are the other ones I got so there's BC are there is a gardening club called I can green thumbs heal the bay I heal the Bay Club I can't remember the other ones but down and just invite them as well to join us or to contact me and we'll just put them on the list and his the more we collaborate I think you know the stronger will be to Green our schools and you know with projects inside and out so I think we can all work together so thank you so much yeah I think no I think that's a good idea I'll text the group chat and I'll let them know I know that the I'm friends with Morgan the president of greenthumb's the Garden Club and I know that they haven't been able to do basically anything besides God home because usually they have like a plot on the on school property but they haven't been allowed to go so you guys are talking about gardening projects I think that she would really love that because they've been eager to do some kind of gardening project yeah that be great if she could join us as well and in fact next month we're going to do a project and she can be involved so that the club so will it will take a look at that thank you everyone thank you to the club presidents for joining us club members of ensuring all of this good information with us so just to fill you in on what we're doing behind the scenes we're still working on the waste stream King progress and working with Hilliard they are are the school districts cleaning supply company and they provide training for custodian so we're getting closer to being able to set up the three streams with the three colored liners and they made an excellent recommendation in the classrooms but I want to make sure that we share that with teachers as well to make sure it works with them but the idea would be to have really one area in each classroom where you have the trash and recycling bin and the posters there and they stay there the whole time and there no other bins anywhere so that we are we make sure that trash goes in the right bin and then you know in all the food areas there'd be three streams and we're still thinking of doing a video on a nut for the with and for the custodians and everyone seems to be excited about this at the district level and so that's exciting and then another thing we we went to visit Julie Garcia and his stuff when they were doing the food distribution the grab-and-go program we just went to the high school but it's in all the schools and they are providing I think it's 600 meals a day or something crazy like that and it's amazing but you know we did see if you can see the picture here everything's wrapped in plastic and then the plastic bag goes in another plastic bag and so just then and there we were kind of brainstorming and in the end I went to Pavilions they provided a grant for a grab and  program and I was hoping she would be here to talk about it a little bit more but anyway we they donated 25 reusable bag and 1300 paper bags and we created a message in English and Spanish like to on a page so I have page and it's going into the paper bag with these lunch with these lunches and I think it's tomorrow and I wanted to show you because today I went to the high school and it was very exciting so this is what it look like on the left you know just a few days ago then Pavilions came in and gave us bags and then we have look at this they not only use the paper bags but they took that plastic that Spurs plastic bag this is the second bag don't know all of the items are loose in the paper bags and that was just very exciting and you know I talked to the lady at the bottom right here and she said all I'm going to use these bags for my trash and it was it was break siding and all of this was donated and so I think we definitely want to work on reducing more plastic they're like the apples are wrapped in plastic bag in a in a tie inside the plastic bag that's that was in another plastic bag so I think we can try to eliminate a little bit more plastic there maybe by having you know little wax paper sorry wax paper liner little baggies or things like that so I was it was very surprising to see how quickly a Food Services adapted to just a conversation Ben and it was in to see that we have some local support and from from Mara you know this is one Supermarket we have a lot of supermarkets and we're not allowed to promote anyone business in the school district but because they had provided a grant to us then we were allowed to use their bags and in the end the bags didn't even have anything on it so and perhaps we could get bags from Ralph's or somewhere other place if they did have they don't have their logo on it so but that that was really cool another project we are going to try to go in a green with our cleaning products some of them are Green certified we are now working closely with Hilliard and you know our aim is to convert to all green cleaning products not only for the custodians and our students but you know for the teachers as well everyone needs to just be breathing cleaner you know it's clean as possible and in those harsh industrial chemicals just need to change into Greener alternative so I'm dreaming that you have a source for that horse for mercury and cleaning products I do so what we're doing with Hilliard is they're going to provide us with what each school is purchasing and whatever product isn't already green they're going to provide an alternative that is green seal or I don't know if you guys can see ecologo is like one of these logos and you know it I'm a professional in sustainable and I'm part of a network of 42 cities and counties we promote green cleaning products and I put down here that the city of San Francisco and you know this the green cleaning products they're using and so I have I have videos I have list I have cities that are doing this so I think an end especially Hilliard there I think they've been around since 1908 and they were part of the team to create the Greenfield go so they're very involved in in in very concerned with you know Green products but they don't only sell green products I think it's it's up to us to select the alternative and provide the list to all the schools so that they can purchase it from them directly I also want to see if we can integrate a glove recycling program this is through Kimberly-Clark and you would we would have to buy Kimberly-Clark gloves which are not available through Hilliard but you know one company called waxy waxy green they have this in place so car School District can get supplies from other companies that are in is called NCSA I believe it's like a co-op purchasing system that the city belongs to his well so anyway so that's in process also we will most likely perform as survey of all of our schools and find out if we can improve our water system is there any leaks this is Metropolitan program we are also working to replace a couple of broken water filling stations and it's it's a bigger project than an anticipated I went to walk the campus again with Mike who's in charge of all this and anyway we got two free ones we can apply for another Grant once we install these and we had a lot of problems with the l k brands that is installed in all of the schools and so we I finally found at Murdoch's of Representative and they in Isaiah I've been converting many of the schools to Touchless everything whether it's water filling stations or even thinks so and the school districts are using the cares act money so I just found out about this and I do anything about how we are using the money so or and if we have any so I'm going to pursue that because if we could have access to more money than we could add more filling stations I think I having water from regular water fountains will not work when we come back to school so we need handless touchless systems and so on dream Robert ingested a big presentation on the cares act funny at the school board meeting on Tuesday night I was Ill link to the presentation and you know they stole the money has to be dedicated by the end of the year I know but I I've been trying to meet with Leslie and Robert together for a few weeks and it's been complicated so I'll make sure to do that you know with him before Friday yeah it has to be spent or pledged yeah I think third grade I mean I don't know what anyone else thinks in this committee having our kids in water you know seems to be a good way to go what does everyone think I think it's a great idea from a water conservation perspective but also realistically for covid 0 for a while he will get the best scenes whatever modality we're going to have its perfect anytime soon so we do Anna are you close enough to Rob or less way to email them or should we just as a little group maybe email them both and say hi pipeline I'll call him tomorrow morning that's a great thank you for the recommendation I had a procedure on on Tuesday morning and I I just went till 2 in the morning so be glad you did not I know the students were complaining about water Nations also that that it was also the water quality was terrible and there's there's a consideration behind all of this also is that some areas don't have electricity so we can't have a filter or university rated system and you know there's work around you know station that is not the debt mean if we have money to spend on this then that would make it Isabel and I know we collected how many we needed and all the elementary schools are still kind of working on that in the high school and middle school that go ahead and Venice yeah on the water quality so in the high school I know it's some of the water stations the water is white and I'm not sure if that's because the water is oxidized or if there's something else going on with our water there it might be interesting to do water assembling is does anyone have any experience I don't know if we wouldn't even go there because they how do you deal with that but I put the piping is as old as any of the structures are so I think this is a problem everywhere I'm not things that do companies that are installing these would we want to make sure they actually produce water so is it worth I did want to know but all right well it's you know we're working on it right now so yeah I know we were talking about things over several months but it it does take awhile get approval and to move forward on things there's a lot of considerations Behind these projects so bear with us as we inform you a little by little and as it unravels we've submitted this idea to have our own logo conversation fight School District Green and so I'm not sure if that was presented last night or I know Leslie was going to the board with this so I have to ask her hopefully it goes through and then we can use this everywhere we wanted to let you know so we've translated the waste that practices in Spanish so these are the one pagers for all of the stakeholders were still it was like literally translated so we need to know formatted into the same design is the English so we'll share that with you as soon as we have them available we started our best practices on water thank you Jeffrey and Caroline and if anyone is interested in getting involved in writing so we're creating a handbook with best practices in all the different measures that you know the sort of flower around the sustainability and all the the major measures in a water waste energy Transportation Community excetera they're all on our website if you guys haven't visited we have a new website this year it's dcsd.org sustainability and we post all of our meeting videos there there's a video section there other videos on there from last year and we also need to have links and things like that so for all your clubs if you wanted to show that during one of your meetings it'll show with the disc is doing for the environment affect the environment grades of green I'm going to hand this over to Caroline I know Mia has already shared a little bit she's one of the two teams enrolled in this program so but Caroline will give us an update yeah so we can see him two teams enrolled in the grades of green campaign one is Janelle and Benicio to 8th grader from ecms and there are the beginning of the project and so will we don't have too much too many details yet but they are going to focus on The Good Wife and then the other team is the whole PCR club that we had talked about earlier and maybe she wants to see more about dead best information like dirt Robin from red to Green that they want to reach out to look at restaurants and help them bring their business and we just waste if you still have groups I want to create their own great something group it's still possible I think their date was up until the end of the year so feel free to reach out to rubbing you have the email here Robin has great so don't worry I'm going to put it in that chat also and she will help you with any kind of project that your group wants to have it's a really interesting thing to do as a group so feel free to share the flyer on social media and everybody knows about this Thank You Caroline Mia do you want to add anything I mean I kind of talked about basically what we're going to do we want to probably work with some kind of chain restaurant just has a bigger impact probably some local restaurant with in Culver City cuz it's there more tangible but we haven't really gotten into like what the project is going to be in how we're going to do it we just kind of recently picked this project so we're just starting that out as great yeah maybe like Chick-fil-A or In-N-Out or actually I talked to Robin and she said that it would be better to strike play from the huge ones just cuz I mean this is our first time doing it we don't really have any experience and they're you know really tough and it will be harder to contact the actual person in charge Okay cool so the owner of rats and they have a second restaurant is well in Culver City so that might be a nice where do you say Hawaiian anime have a second restaurant called Tut's which is Mediterranean but at least it's obviously it's just I think there's one other rats in Gardena or something but basically like three restaurants not a check and they do help with a Culver City fundraisers and stuff so they might be open to love it okay so I have a question about this so you win the hundred thousand dollars to work Soldier project is it just a proposal for the project and once you win the money you can actually do the project or is it you do the project and then you win money competition with other schools and you enroll you need to have at least two members in Rolling you could your team could do this is actually and they help you find a project around this fits the theme is climate solutions to fight client the climate crisis and they guide you the whole way and then you compete against other schools and you know last year with covid and all that not not that many teams made it to the end but yes it is over a certain time through the school year actually this year is one year last year I was like just a semester do they have a little more time hopefully our club did have an idea we want to since a lot of plastic you can't recycle plastic bags in a lot of kids bring Ziploc bags to our school for lunches and stuff obviously pretty coronavirus we were thinking that we could Implement like on recycling bins that are specifically for plastic Alexander campus because they're very hard to find associate grocery stores but I've never grocery stores and it's a big house still for people to have to bring all their plastic bags to recycling plants or two grocery stores to dispose of them so they usually end up in the recycling or in the trash which one ruins that hold recycling or ruins or puts more recycling in more of things that could be recycled into the trash we were thinking of doing something like that for a school but would that be a project we could submit for this competition how would that address climate change in climate action I'm not a hundred percent sure I think Sunday climate change and one of them was waste though I think I was related to you know if you recycle plastic bags in your own how you know you impacting I would definitely call Robin she's amazing and really she guides you the whole way and you get the email her and just ask her if she will all right I want to leave time for figure out who is or would be are responsible for it and I am missing you Marina Lin TPMS Owasso campus I think Jeff kind of volunteer and somehow so we'll see if we aren't able to have if and when we are able to have grapes going on side then maybe it would be easier to have this list and see if we can have shared project one good news is that I've been reaching out to Define nurseries in companies to see if we could do this green garden kit that we talked about and we received $100 Baker Creek heirloom seeds and I think it's Michelle who are giving us the contacts to thank you Michelle any contact with other Nursery but they're super busy with Christmas time and it was there's a few that are interested but I think is best to reach out after the holidays and so we'll see what we can do but I thought that the idea what was her name she talked about what you could do with her gardening as two days it is said that she wanted to do a video I have something growing so this fits right into our plan in January to do a workshop and we're hoping maybe the city can join in or I know they have videos so we could possibly do it in two parts or or do just one and we wanted to kind of get feedback from you quickly about I can weigh in a little bit just off the top of my head working on a project to get some compostable material back from our new composting vendor and I did want to see where the schools were as far as compost in gardening site do offline we can talk maybe how the city can help I'm not sure what that would really mean but I'd be open to sitting with the group and just kind of brainstorming that's great yeah maybe we create a subcommittee just to focus what to do you know for it would be on Zoom or maybe maybe we could do it on site maybe we do one is it you know something in person but I don't want to without you getting approval I don't want to go further in that idea but if we can't do it in person then do something online with videos and student I think the first initial meeting to be online and or even just by phone and just kind of rainstorm what is feasible and then plan out for the the next year right now it's really cold and when spring hips as early as March we could maybe have it may be by there at that time covid will have subsided and stings opening up so March April we could have an advantage and actual event so what or should we meet separately beginning of January in the subcommittee to talk about this and then planet or it would be probably an after-school thing maybe on Wednesday and invite invite all the students of every school didn't just join in I think that's going to be depending on where covid goes to a group event with so many participants but yeah you know what I think an offline meeting is best and probably better to have it separate from this beauty even separate from before this because it'll be a lot of planning and brainstorming and we don't want to cut people off I would like to c c u s d you know are we just to be in mental sustainability committee and I are we you know are there just all these other clubs that are environmentally friendly oriented to we create a youth climate Council I just want throw that out and I don't think we have a lot of time right now to go over this so if you can think about it actually and next time maybe we'll talk about it a little more and I can send out in none with the minute the sample resolution things and then you could take a look at it and then that'll help the conversation is that okay all right and then I wanted to share this I just discovered this Enviro map where it shows you know of the environment what areas are you know from Green the pollution levels in our area so Culver City you know what the urban oilfield is I think that's where all the red is but I think I don't know how to integrate this information but I think it's important to know and that we we can improve you know I are School decide we good to have maybe our school district map Within but I couldn't do that so specifically but anyway if anyone on the Scholastic side wants to take a look at this and see how we can use it we can also go quickly interject 1 second that's absolutely High run young about the map one of the things that this map is built on is monitoring equipment that the air quality management district has for compliance purposes throughout the city it doesn't catch local things it catches Regional area stuff a very simple one you know that Lorena or any neighborhood next to the 405 pollution a few blocks from the 405 will not be picked up by this map because that is not what they're measuring so this map says something but it's nothing say much that is of concern turn to a city like ours or or particular locations cuz it doesn't pick up hotspots okay where any school is so the map is but not really I think used for the word I've understood his four Regional efforts but I did also captured you know areas neighborhoods as well so I I don't know that's why I was hoping to just bring this out here and maybe we can talk about it more outside Rania are green tip for today sustainable food so what does that mean what is grown locally has a low Transportation impact from plants growing organically nutrients unit nutrient-rich foods are grown in healthy soils and protect the groundwater without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides sorry from animals that are feds in a healthy way in a natural end I meant and without depleted wildlife I'm coming from land that hasn't been deforested or you know with people unfairly exploited so just wanted to throw that what sustainable food can mean and dumb how we can be conscious this holiday season I'm sure a lot of you have already done your shopping but we did have a green tip in the School newsletters about chocolate chocolate in the scorecard I don't know if you checked it out but it's it's quite interesting to see the different brands and what you want to be looking for when you buy chocolate for example fair trade Forest Alliance certified fair for Life UTD these are logos that you no guarantee that their more sustainable and then you know there's another logos to look for is well let's see I'm sorry sorry something happened and then sharing time I went to open up and just see what everyone's doing and how everyone's doing and what you're thinking for our committee cuz we are all together in this and while we do you know Caroline and I you and Jeff some work behind the scenes we do want to support you if you are doing projects in your schools and green ambassadors do are there green ambassadors in all the elementary schools now do you want to yes so I'll ring time we started it last year we started it I should say and basted strongly I believe on the Lynnwood hour Target Model and this year you know we went back and forth a lot about whether we were going to do anything with it virtually and we did basically say we would try and no we haven't done anything yet but our plan is that January will be our first brand ambassador meeting it'll just be once a month and we also only limited it to the 4th and 5th graders before it was first through it but it's we're saying a lot of zoom in go out of everything so we're just getting 4th and 5th graders basically the teachers just chose someone before they gave speeches and all of that stuff but we don't really know what we're going to cover but yeah hopefully well our seems cuz we try to have a theme every month we could let him out for the rest of the school year and then yeah you're doing really good once a month or once a month yeah I mean that's our goal at least do that maybe we have to maybe we could support you by sharing seems or yeah I mean that's definitely one of our questions because I think someone was mentioning earlier in the meeting. Inspection usually it's very Hands-On and all of that and so you know I'm just sending out principles or whatever we just got will what are we going to talk about if you kind of know what the things are going to be moving forward for the rest of the money 2020-21 school year I'll be very helpful yeah we can get some things together and I want to remind everyone last year we we had actually 10 days planned around Earth Day in April and it was amazing it was with outside stakeholder where is an cleanups and things you know and then every day had a scene that we can we had stuff planned in every school and but I want us to do the same we we we ended up doing it virtually and we we got some pictures back from families that you know took her recommendations in there where it's there was music videos to watch every day with a theme and it just it was a nice initiative I think we should try to do that again and maybe that if you have that project in the back your head with your students and kids you'll you know you'll be able to think about what we can do when you know you can come back to us and say we need help you know with X Y and Z and maybe we can all work together to you didn't have the same kind of weak in all of the schools on those lines and drain summer here from Farragut and Allison I'd love to do a standardized We're All in This Together Elementary School I mean not to put another meeting or subcommittee on everybody's plate but it'd be cool if we the elementary schools are kind of doing the same thing and we're pretty clean slate we did agree in some stuff last year but there's no program that has a stamp on it so we're kind of opened everything I see for bassinet does it matter that you're altogether it is but nearby School I'm I think just in terms of scheduling by school is obvious it's going to be specific because every school fees have different schedules and terms of Summer was bringing up if we kind of standardized the curriculum you know and keep it on yeah yeah it's just something I've been thinking about through through covid you know it's like we've made we as a nation as a Consciousness have made such great strides and reusable bags and bringing your water bottle everywhere and you know and you know no way lunches lunches and all that and that seems we have made a huge backslide by default because of covid and you can't you know I mean there if there are places where you can now pack your own reusable grocery bags so it's just it's something to think about in terms of like a re-education or a reminder or something I mean son Gino's actually super impressed with the replacement of the plastic bags at the school district is using versus the paper bag so I it's just something I wanted to put out there because the air quality is so much better cuz they're so fewer car is there's all these habits that are backsliding so it's just something to think about in terms of education and reminders and maybe we meeting will will do a covid how to stay eco-friendly during a the confinement and in covid land cuz it's it's true it there's no reason to take out food and even though the Culver City is required to not do styrofoam we we actually got something star from the other day but you know it's hard so I think that's great staying green during covid yet you have to unmute yourself so it's not about green ambassador's but it is something for every school to be thinking about what I was at I went to the school board meeting on Tuesday and and there was a lot of pain they're talking about outdoor space and the library on a garden has been used from the very beginning as an outdoor classroom space not just for gardening but for other subjects as well in other words it's a multi-purpose space and outdoor space and I feel like each one of us at whatever School we're connected to can be thinking about the space creatively for chicken relieved that the beautiful spaces like the garden spaces you know how could they when and if this ever occurs that that learning happens outside how can those spaces be utilized and I and the teachers jump on it at love Iona and be very creative about it it's very exciting I can talk I'm not going to talk about all the different things that they do did over there with the garden space and aside from our garden classes our little garden fairy team used it once a year for Ceramics classes that's just one example of you know like be ran away from the garden but still being separated how does the how do you think our midi ties into what you're saying is that this is a group many many of you are connected to your school garden so and this is a group who really cares about kids and they're the way they interact with the environment and so I'm just sort of planting a seed that can grow if there's a time when this time quick actually starts getting closer to being a reality when I did have a conversation with Leslie about this you know I have some connection with the is this community and I I thought that maybe we could ask those businesses that are close to lend us their plant like their indoor plants or and so we could sort of beautify our school outdoor school areas with those plans so I don't know if that's something you know what you guys think but you know what else could we do as a sustainability committee to help you know facilitated make that area Greener obviously having trash cans and all that but just make it more pleasant and that was the only thing I could think of was getting plants lent to us but I'm Philip when we first started this was our goal that we have everything written down everything is on the dock so we actually wanted to go as a house fire you know the whole United States that they can use time we have another sure we decided that we're just such a Hands-On activities is that was hard to transition but we we very well we are welcome to share all our things will be all about how do we get you guys to communicate then you want to do come here every month at least all the lead or have someone representing Green ambassador's from every school like really make an effort to come here so that we can all join together and and we'll have baby you know in a lot of time to dedicate to your you know your efforts do you know the material so I can have her send it to you email the things and we can go from there but we can share it so you know I wear I 80th and talk about it quickly. Wait till they open that sounds great and and in fact we thought it was important at the beginning of last year that we realize there's the green ambassadors in the elementary schools and then middle schools we had found the name there was three names the third was like do you remember Caroline with ambassadors than the great day Eco here or at there's a Continuum you know for the kids when they go from one to the you know one campus to the next that they know we're going to yeah I'm weird trying to set up the waste stream and have all the signs and all the the trash can in the right place maybe that's the thing that these programs can help us with to maintain it over time Lake making sure that a big bin stays where they were meant to be in and we still have the free Wings To Go and things like that to keep green Ambassador is all the way through high school I don't have a problem I just thought maybe the kids you know how they change age groups and they get embarrassed about feeling younger that the having and maybe we could just dig up the names that we had found last year and just present the next time to you and say hey what do you think about these and then we either Vote or I don't know we could decide what to do about that but let's let's think about all of these different things we've talked about today and there's I think the last Light is just about the meeting the meeting date is January 28th and we'll send out an invitation you know really I hate you coming today with so much happening at every level 3 the end of the school year is in finals and packing gifts and all of this so taking time out your busy schedules to talk about the environment and I really feel like all of you care so much about this and your participation is makes all the difference so thank you and then you give us ideas for meeting on what thank you on what we can talk about I really love the idea of talking about being environmentally friendly during covid live style and then and then how spread the word and how to bring the green ambassadors together to that's that'll be exciting I think maybe maybe a few each one as share your documents I could send it out to everyone as a attachment so if you have policies or anything on your individual schools I think we basically are following whatever Linwood how has set up I know Veronica has call Mike lesson plan basically and that's what we doing following but yeah it's just different this year because the virtual right well maybe if you want to try to get your Anthony didn't at least do we know who's liked the head of the green ambassador program at each school maybe they could all get like on an email thread I'm just because this year is so special I'm just trade thoughts and like you said if we could have either without having to create a subcommittee but just talk like a separate offline green Ambassador only at elementary schools on the meeting or call whatever what do you think of Allison and just about meeting like half an hour 45 minutes before this next meeting so that we can just kind of all keep we could do that my only concern is that we were planning to have our first meeting before the 28th but yeah I mean we could also just what is the 28th is it you want to look me in if you can of course you're in the green Ambassador and Joanna you want to say something I'm sorry I just not very much notoriety for some time I will send you guys a file so everybody has the same one and also I was thinking and sometimes creating like a Facebook page that is like a green Ambassador sometimes it's helpful to I have that 4 by nothing and we have like are you around I'm one of the buy mappings and Culver City and so we have a separate one for Los Angeles.
