good evening everyone children are close to him but we have nothing to report out of closed session to the public we will the flag salute I will ask our Farragut teacher mrs. The guy have any thing to pull off of that okay anybody else nope I got a motion SoMo second I almost forever fantastic and we are all the way up to the American citizenship Awards time is Lockhart where is Miss Chamilia starting who's starting here who's on first comes to me by President test valid the members of the board good evening we are very pleased tonight to recognize again and a stellar group of students onto the American Citizenship Award how much is designed to recognize the students who consistently exhibit the kinds of behavior we want to see displayed in our schools and in our communities this month 8 students one from each school will be recognized for their good side kinship good evening Culver City Community Schools American citizenship award goes to Lola Montez Lola mother is a model student who is passionate about learning she demonstrates great determination and all subject areas and task she's a natural leader and someone you can count on to set an example for the rest of the class she extends a helping hand without hesitation to anyone including picture not only is she helpful she's also a great facilitator as she always encourages everyone to participate and share ideas as well she initiates insightful conversations with both adults and peers in the target language Lola is patient all of her peers taking her knowledge of impulsivity to another level she genuinely cares about the well-being of others and is always eager to invite new friends into her Circle we're fortunate to have her as a member of el Marino congratulations Lola El Rincon schools American citizenship award goes to Isabella Cruise ballerina Isabella is a role model who shows leadership and citizenship qualities everyday both inside and outside the classroom she's dedicated and responsible to student council representative and I'm motivated mathlete Club member she always comes to me is prepared ready to help and willing to work on any task given to her she was recently elected as Student Council secretary do to her organization positive attitude and outstanding artwork Isabella has a caring and some What attitude towards her peers she works cooperatively with others and she always tries her best to include people Isabella's Integrity exudes the people around her she shows empathy and compassion for her peers that is one of the many reasons why her peers look up to her respect her congratulations Isabella Farragut schools American citizenship award goes to Jorge Ramirez Jorge is an outstanding member of our Farragut Community he is a model of good citizenship character and courage and the way he thinks of others before himself he is a true advocate for himself and others when students are apps takes it upon himself to be sure they get all the materials they need or a regular shows courage in his advocacy for himself and others he is not afraid to laugh at his mistakes and often can be heard saying out loud you can do it to himself in class in a go to school. He is incredibly helpful to his peers teachers and staff members I wish we had more Jorge's at Farragut we are honored and proud to be recognizing Jorge Ramirez for his contribution to the school and greater Farragut School Community congratulations Columbiana schools American citizenship award goes to Tobias Joseph Josephson this is probably worthy of the Citizenship Award because he exemplifies character last month Tobias show deep respect as well as empathy for appear he noticed this classmates difficulty in overcoming an emotional event during install he recognized both her need and her capability to take on a leadership role and consciously selected her for a class leadership position when he had the chance he helped her overcome her sadness through his we're so proud of Tobias for putting others first ever being the sort of student who shows true care and concern for his classmates congratulations to bias Linwood e Howe schools American citizenship award goes to Crystal Gage crystal is a third grader Atlanta how and Maude good citizenship each day she follows school and classroom rules is considerate of her peers feelings and looks out for younger Vikings on campus additionally chriselle gross goes above and beyond voluntarily helping clean up trash left on the tables and Floors after lunch cryselle does this not for recognition but because she understands what it means to be a good citizen and a member of a community congratulations Chris Sale Culver City Middle School's American citizenship award goes to Angie Hernandez and she is an eighth grade Spanish Immersion student at CCMS Angie is a hard-working young lady and is kind and helpful to all who interact with her she is frequently observed going out of her way to assist students and teachers and she's always willing to offer help with a smile she goes above and beyond even when she thinks no one is looking Angie has been observed picking up trash as she walks down hallways holding doors open for others and just explain courtesy and respect to all those who she interacts with you'd be hard-pressed to hear her udder she's always willing to tell a fun story or lend a listening ear Angie is a true Gem of a student and we are lucky to have her at CCMS congratulations Angie okay Culver City High School's American citizenship award goes to Lena Johnson Anna was the chairperson for the Dig pink fundraiser this year for cchs she worked Culver City police and they're pink patch fundraiser for the City of Hope for which cchs raised $1,800 will work many hours on this project and worked with local businesses to help the event she is one of the tops passing the school and a two-time all CIF Champion volleyball player the commitments Richie made school and Community is tremendous mean is a great role model for our students here at cchs will try to present our Americans fish and chip award to Lena Johnson congratulations Lena can last but certainly not least, Park High School's American citizenship award goes to Pilar how do I block open saying that right and Pilar has worked extremely hard has worked extremely hard to complete her needed credit to cover Parker attendance has improved dramatically since I'm Road immersing immersing herself in Culver Parts Wolfpack Dance troupe and Breakfast Club you can always find her early in the morning helping this month's all those son Adrian wood finishing up his breakfast or waiting with him from minutes to put kindergarten reading log she has become peas unofficial coach helping with Matilda and her classmates fulfill their Fitness logs recently she has met her goal of finding a part-time job at Panera Bread be sure to visit this current student at school or at work congratulations Pilar another animal alright now we turn to the superintendent's report thank you board president has Palace in school board members first I'd like to thank principal Rebecca no for holding a bullying awareness workshop at bearing couple of weeks ago it was open to all of our elementary school families I think it's great when are principals conduct workshops like these it speaks to the variety of experience that they all have I know that the high school is working on can a parent Workshop in the area of Social and emotional wellness and we have a couple of workshops for our parents of special-needs children in the next semester so I hope that we have more workshops like these and future they are quality workshops I had a great meeting with our Walker and roller expert Jim shanman we are working on developing awareness around not just the importance of making alternative choices such as walking riding rolling to school and work but also those taking 3 Box challenge makes a big difference to the congestion around our school so we definitely want to continue to encourage people to take that 3 block challenge April yes yes I will is the month would you just leaving if you just shut that door cuz we can hear people in the foyer thanks April is going to be a month that we focus on not only walk and rolling but also other aspects of Healthy Living which would include healthy eating and physical fitness opportunities we are working also on a ccusd healthy living cookbook so encourage all of our ccusd staff I have yummy recipes to submit those we like to have that for everyone and if you have a recipe turn that into Kelly Hill and HR she's putting them all together I'll take them Kelly I'll take him to okay Kelly can't will also take do you want me to come in a book but she said she will take them finally I have to say the most incredible High School football game I have ever seen in my life I like animal took place the Friday after Thanksgiving it was a semifinal game with Covina High School and are wonderful Culver City varsity football team it was intense we were on he truly for the whole second half we went into overtime it was just an amazing game and though are centaurs were just Warriors I mean throughout the whole entire thing they did such a great job and don't we lost by 1 .1 sad little point and so it was a gut-wrenching and heartbreaking loss but I want to say that I'm incredibly proud of our team they took that loss well they walked off the field probably after congratulating the other team they played with great athleticism and great commitment and they represented our school at our district very proudly so I do want to send that to them and it finally destroyed we have a board Workshop next Tuesday at 6:30 and will focus on our master plan and other projects and I encourage our community to come in and that will be held at the district office. alright so for me I thought I would go back a couple weeks and do a brief report on are inclusion respect and diversity task force soon to perhaps be named something else get your meeting I'm going to Great representation of parents and staff and students who gather together to it kind of recap what we've accomplished so far so we spent the first few minutes kind of thinking about what we had done I'm mainly in the area of our cute fonts to students facing immigration actions and we were really able to celebrate the many steps we've taken to serve the needs of this vulnerable population then of course we have to work to the next stages what what we wanted next time we took and we explored some of the areas of interest that were identified during last year's on meetings in our objectives and we then agree that our next steps would probably I'm going more towards an exploration of our classroom climate that's cool culture and the Common Thread among that discussion was this need to explore our practices and policy that would impact equity and on perception of an equity inside the classrooms of a student experience as well as the staff expiry I believe that this work is really going to be defining that that's space and this task force over the coming year and I'm I really do look forward to bringing those recommendations to the board in the coming months as report out our work on that and then a lot of that same vein last Monday I was able to sit in on the family Alliance meeting which brings together a number of community Partners together to to go to serve the needs of our vulnerable population and so we reviewed the organizational chart and the many many people who come together food to help these when there are our most vulnerable students we were able to meet our new case manager who I am very pleased to report will begin her first day tomorrow Wednesday ashes being a Schreiber foundation and through our contract with the Venice Family Clinic she is going to be serving as a case manager for all students who are having issues and their immigration status we also of course have our free farmers market going on and the kitchen in a bag and I don't know if anybody got a chance to go to the crock pot cooking lesson that happened a couple we check out but there are more coming up in the future where we have a number of wonderful volunteers coming together to put together kitchen items in a bag and along with a crock pot provide that to our families who may not have a steady Kitchen in there at their disposal so as long as they have electricity and running water they should be able to cook a meal and so the premise of these works are to help All Families cook healthy and delicious meal for their families at all that we got close to 80 Crock-Pot so far I think around $1,800 in donations and it really is so with that just kind of adding to our wonderful fall Sports can't forget about volleyball and their wonderful run and the State play and they put up a great run and we want to congratulate them for a wonderful season as well as the cross country season who are on the girls who also made it to the third round of a of of this state playoffs and if I'm incorrect I apologize and I will correct myself shortly and finally again I do encourage everybody to come next week to our board Workshop Kris Dunn Robert and I have been working together to make sure that we provide a good outline for our existing facilities master plan and what needs to be done to going for it thank you current board members and everyone actually wanted the one thing I want to discuss this a couple weeks ago we went to a meeting at Culver Studios a presentation at Culver Studios Leslie Kim and delicado Wendy Hamill of that foundation and I went to really cool presentation of all the work they're going to be doing their as they completely redesign and rebuild basically the entire Studio project behind the mansion and going all the way all the way down the property integrate with Cole with the color steps project and so it kind of all flows together as one and put everything together one of the things they were emphasizing to us as they want to move everything away from Van Buren to make sure there's no deliveries no trucks anything going dip going back behind Lynn how to try to keep that clear for us they're also putting a lot of effort into a beautification project along Van Buren back there behind their studio in across from Lynn how they showed us some renderings of Pathways and benches and trees and everything and it really look nice so that's something to look forward to hydrate and raise the issue of possibility of adding some parking somewhere for Arlen house staff and was kind of shut down because just because of logistical and security concerns basically you know they couldn't let our staff on to their secure Lots but we did raise the issue we're going to work with them and talk to West LA about maybe defining some CTE career paths to a long day of work we're already doing I'm also going to put some money into building a temporary sound wall and some permanent new windows on the Lynn how campus their intent is to the noise pollution during the construction process but obviously that will benefit us going forward to even once they're done so we'll make sure to share any information we get from them and keep in touch with all of our land how parents to is that progresses we did Mike Reynolds retirement last Tuesday thank you for those of you that came he really appreciated it I felt bad making him drive whatever like 3 hours down for him to our party and then they had to turn around and go back but he really enjoyed it so I'm glad I'm glad everyone was able to attend and again the workshop on Tuesday besides the master plan will be getting back into the wonderful world of air conditioning so we can address that on Tuesday night we'll see everybody thank you very to our students Sophia good evening Ford so I just want to say one of our biggest like events for the 8th graders is our 8th grade formal which is going to be on this December second on the theater has changed on if you heard with the old one is but the new one is glow in the dark so they'll be black lights and whenever you wear white you'll just glow and it's going to be really cool on the student store is now being offered to ASB we're working at every Wednesdays so that we can all make more profit so that we have more money for the students at CC Master they can have a lot funner events and things were continuing walk and rollers and it's going fine and speaking of Wok and Roll tell me or what ASP was wondering if you guys ever want us to start green 5 again because last year we did get the award and we're not sure if the students at CCMS can fat Lord, do you need some help setting the trash so whenever you'd like to start that again will totally do that we did thank you grams on the 13th the 17th and the lot of kids seemed really happy because they were just getting Nice Notes from other students and teachers and it's just been a great week at CCMS so thank you thank you Ryan afternoon everyone it's great to see everyone today and today is some the spirit of giving and Miss montiavo decided to news about today what is today and I'm we have for donuts for a donors choose which is the tightrope program and it's for students to you know overcome their struggles and you know everyone has that problem in our deadline coming to an end and I was wondering if somebody can I donate and another reminder is at the CP Illuminati Friday December 8th so that means that although The Graduate students will come back and it's a party from 1 to 3 on December 8th and I lovely superintendent Miss Lockhart came to visit us on Monday and she explained it to us about your goals and what is safe at work bison what is in and it was so great with her there and I really appreciate that and the last thing is that artwork Soleil is coming back for semester 2 and we're doing a topic the Japanese American war and we're doing a film this time instead of a mural and that's it for my news thanks so much thank you and Edwin I hope everybody had an amazing Thanksgiving invited so MapleStory short with the presents their performance called prologue aerobic form at the Veterans Memorial Building on November 30th at 7 p.m. and December 2nd for 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and tickets will be $15 for general admission 10 for students faculty and seniors and five for ASB with a haze take it on the city and saw Heidi children and children under 5 and under are free December 11th we will have our UCLA blood drive from 8 to 12 so anybody could come if you're over 18 biggest bee also joined with Didi Hirsch are to help out with the dog toy drive and HB will be hosting a big day till after school on Friday to help out with the room family whose house was burned down so that's the end of my life thank you okay I haven't heard from Neil Rubin saying that he wanted red okay would you read about that the first email Ruben scene will the board put a parcel tax or bond issue on the ballot now that the city claims they will give District over $7 due to the refinancing of the Matt Barnes thank you for the comment and Jerry trouble live a car from Jerry what things one is in terms of the parcel tax I went back and looked at the video and listen to the presentation if there is going to be a parcel tax then I would strongly suggest Athletics be added as I think summer mentioned at the last board meeting to the verbiage if if in fact there's a parcel tax and if in fact that the monies allocated could maybe spent on those items identified and the verbiage that I think that's important regardless of how monies are spent or not spent as the discussion went at the last meeting regarding well if money's were not Spanish the area use the parcel tax that frees up money and other places so I think that's an important issue you can choose not to use parcel tax money for athletics if it's not in there or any other program but not to have it I think would do Injustice if in fact they have personal tax secondly I would highly recommend as the budget goes together I know Robert Quinn that works on it as Deshawn but ultimately I think that the middle school after school or extracurricular activities including Athletics there needs to be a hard look at allocations for that when students are helping to fund for pills for fees to join the League or be part of a league things of that nature when we have at last count I just heard quickly that someone in neighborhood 15 coaches are being paid for the fall Sports and I don't know how many more during the rest of the school year but significant number of those are being funded by the panther program and I'm wondering do the does the entire leadership of the Panthers know that they are finding those in advance or how does that go about how do we end up with that and the third thing is that congratulations to middle school if you're working at the student store that's a great start maybe somewhere down the line you've heard me say this before some student store at middle school high school with a revenue stream would allow the students to do other things during the course of the year and maybe somewhere along the line that could last thing is if and if at some point Chris done could be here earlier to address the issues that you need him to address at and meetings maybe not so long as this agenda but I've seen them here for two hours waiting to address just a couple of quick issues if you would consider that in your agenda then maybe his day wouldn't have to be quite as long I know he's putting a lot of time on behalf of all of us so maybe consider that when you put together the agenda thank you thank you Jerry thank you it's like you know the 3 minute drill I think after all this time that he certainly would know the three managerial Luis Gonzalez I just got a card for you tree trimming Board of chilly outside my hands are still I just wanted to talk about the Middle School course in the Middle School grass field I want to say thank you to everyone who was involved getting the grass to grow their there was ice all over the summer a lot of fertilizer and somebody working on the field and in the grass look great so thank you for that but now after months of use its to where it was in the summer so if if there can be some kind of steady flow of care for the grass on the field you're right so that it no soccer is going to start up again in the end I think February or March and hopefully during the winter the grass field is going to look as good as it did in the summer so if that can be a dress somewhere with that whoever did it so well in the summer that be great and then it just keeps going the other issue that I saw was my son has a couple of friends were not on the high school and we went to check them out and they're on the freshman team they're playing on the turf field of smaller turf field but now it for 45 sunsets and there's they're still practicing in super dark extremely dark I know it's the thought they're sliding plan for that field but if in the in the interim there could be some kind of portable lighting setup just so they can get some more like safety issue and so they could not be such such a dark environment I think that would be great if if that could be worked on as well and I just looked on amazon.com and I saw some things for like $100 so I mean if it's something that you do I think just a temporary fix until the lights thank you thank you alright board members let's start with d I can be quick first I hope everybody had a Thanksgiving it great Thanksgiving and I wanted to mention that I watched the city council meeting last night it was nice chambers of course and I watched it on interesting things to me was Jim Clark was calling in all the way from Europe and the sound quality was terrific and you could really understand him and because I've had occasion to have to call into meetings in fact I'm going to do that again 2 weeks from now I wanted to pass along the right so I sent him an email and he told me Jeremy Green's person to talk to and I already mentioned happy Leslie and I mentioned it to Robert and I just to say I hope the city will understand and figure out how to do it right cuz they clearly figured that out for gym I didn't see an image of him but the audio is the most important thing in being able to participate properly in meeting and we've been making it work with FaceTime on a iPad 4 when I'm not here you just like that cuz you get to laugh together with picture face on it all right and I'm looking forward to going with the entire board I guess to the cspa education conference day after tomorrow for 3 Days down in San Diego expect will usually valuable sometimes there's some really good things and sometimes there's some things where you wonder why people spent the time on it I have been in general to a good opportunity for us to do a little professional development ourselves mention we have a partnership meeting coming up a week from Thursday I think it is next week and I'm really excited about talking about flexible schedules and figuring out a way to letter teenagers sleep late that issues been percolating I think we're making good progress I hope to bring something back to the board before too long it says here's what we as a partnership think might make sense and you know extend dialogue to the conversation to broader group I did see Legally Blonde jr. at the veterans Auditorium the middle school performance and I dragged all five of my boys along and they were not the older ones they really enjoyed it the little one when was sleep before intermission not the smallest one that when he was done but it was really great I enjoyed it they did a great job and I did attend the task force meeting and I enjoyed the ridge and a conversation that we had a lot of reflection it's a it's a great group working together and bringing all of our concerns honestly to the table and figuring out how we can move forward and take those concerns and apply some action to it and again I want to thank Tracy for leading that charge so I look forward to more of those meetings I know it's going to be a lot of times you can have a lot of meetings and not a lot of action but I this group is going to it's going to make some progress and tangible progress and I just why I want to thank Roberts explanation in the memo for that the seven points alien that will receive and in my own way to to understand it and what I've shared with some community members who had questions about you know the need personal taxes still seems apparent to me because that will barely cover a deficit and if we really want to be excellent we have to make sure we do more than just barely cover a deficit correct alright that's all I have thank you if I may just add to the parcel tax, that you made board member McBride it is that we might understanding is that that 7.6 million comes over a 15-year. And only some of it gets his accessible by the general fund and so therefore actually it doesn't make an appreciable dent in the deficit so just to go to work yeah so I wanted to mention that there was an open house at the vending Museum which has opened at the Armory now and the lid switch their location I'm Sunspot over in the Corporate Park to this Armory spot which is just down a lenda so really just right down the street from an elementary and two secondary sites and the opening was really beautiful though removing so obvious what an incredible resource it is and an opportunity for all sorts of interdisciplinary use between our  secondary primarily institutions are metals and the and the museum and so I'm really looking forward to seeing where those Partnerships can blossom now that they're literally next door and it's such a Culver City Treasurer and I really recommend it folks get over there if they haven't yet the DM an organization called Bridge housing came up to the school district over a week ago to meet with some staff from the sea is all staff from the school district as well as some elected officials to talk about a project that took place in San Diego Unified School District where at no cost to the general fund actually at no cost of it District at that District was able to provide both market rate and below-market-rate housing for community members partnership with nonprofits is all very complicated and the city was the huge role and so that project that is in San Diego happens to be available for tours at the same time that the school board is going to be in San Diego for the State School Board my friends so because this conversation is happening amongst us here in Culver City I thought it would be cool if some school school board members could go down and visit this site and so give me to rangement for us to come by and visit at 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning and it's like a 10-minute Uber and I had originally thought perhaps we needed to only have two board members present at a time but I wanted to post it and say maybe if we just listen this is actually productor Levin's recommendation if we're just listening and not talking we can go as a group to see this pretty cool facility and just percolate on it and it's right around corner so what do you think about that definitely would like to do that Kelly mentioned that to me shortly before tonight's meeting I think it may not turn out to be the solution we choose in Culver City talking about it would certainly be helpful for long-term goal of making it easier for people to be CCSD employees heading to great opportunity will be okay so we won't miss any generals it'll just be probably one Workshop that will mess but I think we can afford that and I'll just make the plan and confirm via email tomorrow if we don't discuss policy we just listen that is no problem with all five of us going to it right some of us made like really want to go to the 10:30 session and you know the rest and report back awesome so I'm looking forward to that I have handouts from the city that are updated on the oilfield that apparently maybe at a liaison committee minute meeting something about police I'm at the sites so they're they're willing to make copies for us and said that they make them should we should I hand this to you and let you deal with it or we can do it later but I just they just got left on my doorstep today and they're offering to do all the color-copying for us which I thought was nice and we should take them up on that because color copies are also only in Haitian project / Culver Studios and their expansion along in School of Art and Culver steps there is there is an explicit request from Culver Studios to have some some support from district and that would come from the board actually for their various presentations before the Planning Commission and then again before the council and I thought we we should absolutely listen to the recommendation of Staff since they already have some information but I wanted to propose the possibility that Culver City was coming present us on the 12th a small like short information item that we can then decide bad weather we're willing to formally back that project for their 13th presentation before the commission what do you guys think of that okay okay listening on the phone okay so for the 12th are we going to invite them thank you very much. FYI the commission mean that he wanted someone to attend as the next day on the 13th so we have to either board member or write something up real quick for them if we decide to move forward with formally up supporting them back in that project but you know I could see an argument it's specially for making all sorts of people having conversations about CTE Pathways stuff I mean it it's not the logical in my opinion okay I'm almost done oh I am done actually I just wanted to ask if you don't superintendent Lockhart Ms pamilya would pass on the request from the Middle School to our director Lisa Michelle who's running the sustainability initiatives about reinstating green 500K bouquets as my fellow board members of mentioned will be away starting some of us with tonight or Wednesday to the cspa is annual education conference which means we will know won't be at Thursday's Culver City at Foundation rally day which is on Thursday and it's going to be on the Olympic campus or going to 7:40 and then moving on to the Middle School 805 an unfair get 8:25 skit guys get those times for specific marching band playing some items board members volunteers going to pass out flyers to promote their fundraising goal of $10,000 you can donate online at ccef for the number for schools. Org you can text your donation to 41444 there's a fly I'll give you a few more instructions than that what do they find you might ask technology resources K through 3rd grade music education the lovely recorder cover closet dish it is Scranton gate Gardens new instruments for middle school high school bans makerspaces at the school so it's all for a worthy cause for all the school so for those were here I would just ask that you turn on your social media Pages they would like for us to do if you are familiar with what the foundation supports to them please help to educate your fellow parents or staff for friends also on what their goal is so there's that last Thursday I tend to be Friends of the Sandy sequel youth Health Center meeting and I was honored to be able to install their new board they are planning a Gala their annual Gala in February top Portmore not later but the good news announced was they were there was some concern that they wouldn't be able to cover the funding from the lacdc was not going to support anymore which is about $45,000 Venice Family Clinic I was feeling my chest as stepped in and offered to cover that so that is huge for them that's a big deal for us so that was great news to get that night and that is it thank you an I was glad to make it to Mike Reynolds his retirement party I'll be a little late cuz of work but it was good to see him and his wife and his fancy new red green sunglasses totally cool gift csba is coming up I know someone will be there tomorrow for the new board member training and then the rest will be there Thursday Friday and Saturday some interesting sessions and and gubernatorial candidates I believe the superintendent State superintendent candidates will be there so we'll be hearing from a lot of great books in addition to all the sessions and I'm looking forward to that I also just wanted to take a minute because this was supposed to be my last board meeting but the state taxes on an extra year this is instead my last meeting as board president as we rotate we are rotating in December I just want to mention that I just couple things I'm sure whatever I'll have more comments maybe next year who knows maybe not but for years before I got on the board a ghost wrote a letter for a friend so that her daughter could permit out of our middle school because she wanted to put her in Champs in Santa Monica for a immersion program because we did not really have an immersion program at the middle school we said we did but we didn't we had an elective class that wasn't very rigorous academically and since then since 4 years Porygon the more we have added sure classes at La bayona we have strengthened the middle school program we have intensified I'm going to Tina's program at the high school I know that we are working also very hard on what improvements we can bring Japanese program even though there's much there are many fewer students involved in that program that it's so it's difficult to step up the same way that we have staffed up Spanish I also know that since I've been on the board we instituted a K-12 music program that has seen the marching band roll from when I first started going to high school games like On The Border's like maybe 20 kids in the maybe 20 what's the marching band I mean I'm think I'm being generous and others like over 80 which is amazing and wonderful what's up with great new uniforms yes but the instruments I mean that the work with a fine Shriver foundation and work within the music program in the addition of some stuff there additional Arts funding and programming at the elementary schools the Staffing of thank goodness the science lab on the Partnerships with a negotiation units the passage of the bond which allowed us to do the things that I've been looking at promise to the athletic fields and doing something Natatorium which we did it you did it because as a parking lot for the moment and I know that it will be further visioning and in the future what is a parking lot it has greater used value than it did building filled with somewhat hazardous in broken materials and other kinds of just taking up a lot of space in the Robert Frost that's just going to be an amazing facility when it's completed when they're the renovations are completed now that we finally got all the asbestos out of there Christians need a nodding laugh or anything I say asbestos under her stand a little bit anyway I just feel like you don't always see Improvement or a week or even a year but over the course of eight years I can tell you that you know this this this district has done a lot of work too become more excellent and I I really appreciate being part of this team here this current team just like one of the most functional teams I've been part of thank you I really appreciate that I'm just like I've been on some dysfunctional ones so yeah so thank you for that for maintaining my sanity it really does help and so yeah that's that's what I have for tonight and wondering if how much time folks think we're going to need on these additional items whether we can skip recess or whatever people need to do we need okay without one says that the board by majority vote can remove anybody as an officer so if we find that we're following the rule and we're sort of four star sales in the fall in the room we can five minutes later or one board meeting later change the the officers by majority vote so what this does I think is establish a default which is a good thing I just had a question about the motion being approved by 500 vote versus just a majority vote did what I don't I don't know that that was part of the discussion last last time sure I think we can comment on that would you mind coming on it since it was is it waiting and I worked on this together is brown act buddies and actions as president sing the person is choosing to waive their term then they are obviously in favor of it and that would mean that the 500 the other four board members would support that person saying that they are giving up that term aforo would mean that you got two for one at the app for one would mean that the person who it it puts that the person who is next in line to be that if the which above says the vice presidency chill go to these this person who meets these these terms but if there's a 4-1 that person who is next in line can be voted out highlighting that it can still be a situation where someone is voted out against their will and we're really just putting this mitigating language in in the extenuating circumstances someone's ill someone has their hair for a sphere understanding of it with the examples that were given last time before one would address someone being voted out against their will but the 500 is saying if the person she just because the language proceeding that says if they choose to that it is everyone is in agreement that that person can waive their term analogous to what's happening in Congress occasionally we would still be able to vote somebody out of office without their consent this just makes it you would have to have something a good solid reason that everybody can get behind you wouldn't we have an established the phone culture is that the right way to write that how does it look it looks okay to me. The path we want to go down we talked about I'm sorry what they see and what else I'm sorry I don't lie that's real side of the building okay I just was like what the next two major problems my understanding was phone number right now it wasn't about that it was about the solar okay alright so can I get motion seconded any further questions just to make it explicit it's your opinion that that's the best way to proceed with this in terms of value for the district right certainly in the case of the science building it is because of the Soul resolution and various other things for the air conditioning project going to cost us a little more one of the challenges I have with air conditioning project HVAC project is getting the equipment so I was short. time AC units are not the quickest thing to be delivered so the selected allow me to hire a contractor who can order the equipment while the plans are still in DSA so I schedule biggest challenge I had at Marina over the summer with some of the HVAC equipment showed up the final week and so it was really not turned on until weekend at the school district school year so it will help us with schedule but it will probably just a little bit of cost and I I had a motion is second all those in favor onward to thank you very much 15 won 51 and 15 to are variable term waiver request for are CTE teachers if they typically do not come to us through the traditional teaching certification route with an English Setter vacation so I'm when your CT teacher have a different test that you take and so this is just a waiver saying that it's okay and take classes can we take them together 51 and 52 is that your motion and it is so I could all those anybody discussion all those in favor excellent okay on 216 one question regarding the superintendent search survey yes okay so I have any kind of cards on his Dua alright so this is a discussion amongst the board who would like to go first see if I did not see a lot of surprises in the survey people had reasonable things that they thought were important the world lot of comments I think we should probably because people who responded the survey didn't necessarily expect their comments to be made public we probably shouldn't publicized play itself but maybe some sort of synopsis or something like that would be good so the community can see how the community responded yeah I would agree we've got something themes that through repeated in some places that are some a lighter issues that but you know I think the matically weekend kind of present to the public these were the top concerns or suggestions or ideas or just themes and the so we can work on having someone condensed that compile that and present that yes Kelly and I are going to be working a little bit on that topic all right and nobody else comments I appreciate you completed the survey thank you to all of this bring your school Community completed it and give their honest feedback and let us know what's really important to them now. Surprisingly we had 60 almost 63% where parents were as the survey EZE killer otters at the technical term I think I did find the comment section to be very informative I'm in a way that I think feels to me like a trove of good juicy stuff that we do it would behoove us to correlate it to some degree synopsize but also hang on to it to share with our permanent superintendent so that that can be really integrated and that superintendent has an understanding of what this community's needs and wants are some of it is just a test misconceptions so that you know maybe we could uncover Pride or another forums present the corrected information that's where the thing to just kind of magic nothing I mean I was impressed that there were over 900 responses I thought that that was right yeah of course that meant like 71 Pages worth of Common Street but I read through them all and let the record note this past Palace read through them all if it's thick as I did is it appropriate to talk about the path forward now that we have the survey or do we need to do a new agenda item for that in a future meeting looking at I'm looking at Rebecca I beg your pardon the part of the church what are next steps are next up is we're hoping to what present at the next board meeting are this is our decision and I'm far from there to correct that sounds that's incorrect everyone there was a whooping in the buddy were up to the LA County School trustees Association and representative to LACMA members of the county Leon School District organization really I guess I never served on that one again to the Board of Education City Council liaison committee representatives to the Sandy seagull House of Representatives to the district meeting Arts team and then it says add friend Center theater collaborative as a separate item really that are separate item I think it's all together right. can a doctor can't give to either going to put it on the back in so you'd be on both of them as most murders my previous Adoration of Arts in the district and currently we have front and center theater collaborative and there is now because we're writing an Arts plan a committee related to the Arts plan so there are two things Star Theater clabbered collaborative and the Arts plan committee on but I imagine they can be the same person or persons right it's just an update representative to find Schreiber Foundation John to Culver City Education Foundation representative to the Culver compact Baldwin Hills Community advisor representative but then the suggested additional committees call Bernie's environmental sustainability committee special needs committee the ird test scores which is going to be name something else it something and then My Brother's Keeper Which chapter of that here what do we do during Obama's presidency when he called Mayors are mayor at the time said yes I'll take on my brother's keeper and that was Megan Sally Wells at the time and then she started at 2 and it's been in through periods of dormancy but she wants School District representations of document is Drew Sotelo and I have been working very extensively on putting in goals that are district related Garden graduation a through G access all sorts of things that our district is already completely committed to that we're formalizing in the document and going to use and get some County funding hopefully to be able to expand programs with both the district looks like we can add your name there that would be next for Frank so it's going to have ourselves explain for people who don't know what my brother's keeper yeah for sure so President Obama started an initiative in response I think and then people can correct me if I'm wrong here but I think this is in response to in particular young black men basically not having just a good education ending up in the prison system and often end up any of dying very prematurely or some other date of disadvantage and so he established my brothers Bieber as a formalized and at the time fun did program Nationwide that would help cities and counties support in particular young men of color that was the idea at that time he called all the mayors of the cities and they could either yes or no I will participate in this project and Culver City did quite of broad reach out at that time I wasn't involved in its first iteration but something may have been and if there was a big launch event in a big to do and then there were all these plans but then the presidency came to an abrupt end and a surprise conclusion right after that so things got Rocky but then initiative is still in place and now counties are taking up the funding for it and so LA County actually has quite a bit of funding Around My Brother's Keeper we just have to get her act together about accessing it really what about putting this document together formalizing it having all the partners very explicitly connected like yes we have nonprofit Partners we have City Partners waste District Partners we have whomever and all that work is done it's it's just about the sounds like it overlaps a bit with some of the other committees because the compact is written up really explicitly My Brother's Keeper document but maybe it should be the other way around you know I don't know maybe the Compaq should house My Brother's Keeper so but anyhow whoever becomes representative to My Brother's Keeper if we do probably should be representative to the Culver City compact was there anything else that was missing from the list I mean it seems pretty comprehensive I want to bring it up even though I don't actually thinking should be on this list is we have a school board person on the partnership and the way we have done that in the past since when Nancy was the the person was that the other partners chose which school Boardman I wanted to be part of it wasn't really simply the school board signing somebody but of course the school board had to agree with that so I think it's not quite the same category as these but we certainly had to think about it as a board decide what we think it should be I kind of agree with that what's your take on that Miss Lockhart choose which school board member Jeremy to keep it going the thing that works at advantages the longevity and and that helps is kind of contraction witty continuity tester rotations not ideal rotation is not idea I want to be part of the partnership Amendment which is that I want to propose changing the maybe we would I want to propose changing the Baldwin Hills cap title so that number 8 is Baldwin Hills Community advisory panel it's supposed to say and that is an organization unto itself that meets monthly but I want to propose that the title for number 8 Inglewood oil field was that really what that I've never been on that committee so I don't know it's about it's about what it's really about then the reason I actually want to change it is because I don't think the meeting is is the most important part of what I think this work should be and it's so this is just me speaking here is that I think we should have first of all two people named for 4 number 8 because what happens is the representative in my two years here has been so infrequently available that we end up going to want a year and I just think that stops in poor form and it be better if we could have two people could alternate and then also I would like to propose that those two people Be an Effective subcommittee that can choose to attend related either Council meetings on the issue in particular right now they have their REI are review. And related so and it's not a huge obligation or some sort of big daunting set of calendar items but that they would discuss amongst amongst themselves should we go to council meeting should we go to the subcommittee meeting we aren't we have the most sensitive receptors in the city here are children breathing the air that could be polluted in the water that could be polluted by oil drilling so that was the only other suggestion that's not in writing do you think that needs to be tied in any way to the liaison meeting with the city so I was thinking to those two reps have to be the same as the ones on the city or overlap with one person mirror anything doesn't matter I feel like I feel like it makes sense actually thinking it would have let more with the environment sustainability committee so much maybe that component could be discussing it on the 12th but if I did was that person some years ago and I found those meetings to be useless yeah so I don't heard that the committee should be something of do sand in it just so happens that there's a real timeliness right this moment cuz the city's going through this right for the area alright but one last comment on this sister there's 13 of these there's five of us that means everybody should be thinking in terms of being on two or three of them Tokyo don't all have monthly obligations so some of them we've already talked about compressing a lot of overlapping and alternates and all that it's going to be 2 or 3 each anyway okay so what did we decide with the oil when I'm doing this before I'm went to which side with that if I can be separate or will that be too oh I think it needs to be painted separate line item for people to volunteer for Community advisor to Inglewood oil field would like to ask if there be two spots there two names spots you get to figure out a time yet all right is that the end of discussion yes I'm okay with that okay one of our employees lost her daughter for 13 year old to cancer all last week so I'd like to know that we turn in memory of Emily Greenstein I will second that what else to add to that Kelly Clarkson have your truck cuz I didn't know about that favor and we are drinking
