on to the agenda adoption of the agenda do I have emotions and discussion all those in favor under the consent agenda we need to pull 6.6 and I will move it as amended I'll second that it's alright 6 superintendent's report good evening board president Al are board members and Community today was the official day for see something say something day doesn't this practice saves lives and would like to make sure that we reiterate to our community to our parents and our students the importance of being aware of your situational surroundings simply make sure that you were observing and interpreting what's happened around you and it's actually goes for our distracted Walkers and rollers as well since we are a huge Walker and roller Community to make sure that you are aware of what's going on around you also this week Miss leaving and I met with our student board representative Andrea Pastore and her outstanding event planning committee about movember which is a campaign it brings awareness to for men's health and sewage prevention we will be working collaboratively on a student and staff health awareness campaign that will be kicked off in November they has excellent idea so we look forward to meeting at working with them if you can grow a mustache board members or or beard or maybe you'd like a fake mustache to wear that would be great I will give you more information as we get closer to the kick-off didn't even talk about having a health fair so we're looking forward to that I'm just a brief update the late school start policy as proposed by portantino sp328 was vetoed last week by Governor Brown yes I did that the reason for his it was a belief that school sites in school communities should make these decisions as a relates to the needs of their school Community moving ahead with discussions on I'll be meeting with Clover Park staff and Clover High School leadership team games tomorrow and I finally I start the Lost Harris County Office of Education superintendent leadership series will be working on building our superintendents Community working on Effectiveness as leaders and enhancing our leadership practices and at the core is intentional mindfulness I thought that one of our boy would be interested about that how mindfulness changes leaders and change his organization and so mindfulness selflessness and compassion are at the core thank you for president Al are members of the board good evening as part of Katniss commitment this year to be more visible at the sites and to provide direct support I visited the high school last week 4 to our visit we visited classrooms and had the opportunity to debrief some of principle Cooper's instructional Focus areas and how and services can help support those goals this week I'll be visiting Veronica Montes at Culver Park and I'll forward to connecting with her about her site-specific needs as well as part of our district focus on using data to guide instructional planning and services teachers and coaches across all t k through 12 fights created assessments based on each grade level or subject areas essential standards and students are in the midst of taking those tests on the illuminated platform tomorrow the elementary and secondary directors will take the sight in Strader's through the assessment reports on illuminate so that they can guide that data analysis protocol at their respective sites because the tests are very different at each of the elementary in the secondary levels I'm appreciative of our Melody to provide that specific guidance appropriate to those different levels and I think that the site is administrators will be similarly appreciative for the differentiated assistance these data conversations are key to reboot or grade level and PLC is where we're working to Anchor Oliver Improvement strategies through high-performing collaborative teams is well I last Thursday I along with superintendent Lockhart directors Lisa Michelle and Becky special education in mtss tosa Allison brown high school principal Lisa Cooper Middle School principal Elsa via Franca and El Marino principal mean this year Tori we participated in the first day of the five-day series on TV being an equity plan for Culver City Unified School District for very excited to be able to announce that led by and Nicole Anderson from generation ready we discussed the educational gas that exist and have existed since the for me driver school system and throughout the day we pondered this quote as educational leaders we cannot close the educational gaps that we see in our schools if we don't close the one in our minds first we also engaged in some pre work in order to understand the cultural proficiency framework and that we are on a Continuum in terms of our own cultural proficiency one thing that I got out of this training is that this is a continuous process and with that we need to expect and accept non non closure as we grapple with these complex issues and on a final note just a quick update normally by now districts would have their tasks excuse me caaspp scores published by now but there was a need to rescore the eighth grade math assessment due to an inadvertent insertion of an item and so because of that having to rescore all of those tests and so all of the tests as a result have been embargoed and so as soon as we get a better time when I'll be able to report to the board and provide an update on our data as soon as it gets published happy thank you for thank you mr. Quinn board presidents and board members and community I just a couple items tonight actually a couple of reminders coming events coming up one last reminder for everyone that coming up this Saturday the 29th is the Robert Frost grand opening grand reopening Gala you can still get tickets online at the ccef website so everyone please come and join us many people have put a lot of hard work into the facility and the event so I expect it to be a ton o fun for everyone who attends and then maybe not as entertaining but coming up next week on Tuesday evening October 2nd at 7 p.m. we will have our board workshop on the budget that will be held over at the district office in the boardroom and everybody is welcome and encouraged to attend that as well that's all I have thank you thank you slaving evening board president and board members I'm disappointed to say I won't be in town for that board Workshop that sounds riveting thank you mr. Quinn last Friday board member McBride cabinet myself included were able to join Miss Debbie ishihara Culver City Unified School District teacher of the year as she was honored at the LA County teacher of the year lunch in all of the teachers of the Year from the county were present to be celebrated with the ceremony lunch and even a little bit of swag who was easy you know that she's been an educator for 36 years and that she is well-respected by the parents students and staff at Lebanon Elementary she's a technology leader and exemplary math teacher for the world number Susan Robbins one told me that Missy she students were always the most prepared for Middle School. CCISD represented by Misty she and we offer her one more round of congratulations Chase Bank cited I was also able to attend the law go to back to school night this year I was in my current role but also and I was able to sort of simply be a parent that was able to be there in that context I really enjoyed being able to go around to the classrooms without all the principal pressure if it was very crowded I think a lot of people were they that chili cook-off that principle Ramirez judged the classrooms looks great it was traffic to hear about the continued high expectations rigorous instruction and play no love for kids that the love Anna Stafford Community possess love Miss Lockhart to think both Miss Lockhart and the board for approving my attendance at the AXA Personnel Academy Cinemas Lockhart was not the only one getting professionally developed this weekend I attended the first of seven weekends in this professional development and they pay and a lot of information so I'm not sure how happened HR staff department in the department I'm not sure how happy I was going to be with all of my newfound ideas so I'll keep you updated rubbing my hands together and then I'm finally like Miss Piggy I was able to put up the first of my site visits last week and I was lucky enough to get to go to Farragut Elementary for that I miss knowing myself were able to get into a number classrooms I think we got into all but 1st and 5th but everyone else was really impressed by the evidence of leadership and student scholarship that we saw the snow and I were able to have some intense discussions about instruction and rigor and those are absolutely at my alley I love having those kinds of conversations I'm so it was a great Focus price as we walk through and we just saw a lot of them burning up there again thank you thank you all right now we have our students reports and have a full house here so I looks like we have now I'm schools representing us so we have our regular person will be Emma Komodo wave your hand so I can see you high and then you can give you a report and introduce your alternate I believe with you okay this is Evan Franson to know and show me my alternate if I'm not here and at the middle school were preparing for back to school night which is tomorrow and we're also starting to plan the Haunted Hallway which is going to be on the $28 bill and we're starting to sell more to CMS gear we have bucket hats and these diversity sweatshirts that were supposed to bring them what's up Spartacus gifts everyone Smiles everyone Smiles in the same language diversity is our strength yeah it's I think it was designed by yearbook and yeah we have bucket hats and that's it that's great okay thank you we have are represented from the high school and Draya so yesterday we had blood drive out of school it was really successful and it's really over here donated but yeah we had like about a hundred eight pints and we collectively decided to be helpful for all the people out there that mean I need it today was National voter registration day and so I'm to clubs that Human Rights Watch student task force and the United We Stand Club decided to have pre-registration boots outside during lunch and so we had students come up and register There are 16 or older encourage everyone to register to vote if you already have in it and like encourage the youth that are 60 and older to pre-register but yeah we have the gala like you mentioned coming up on Saturday many of the APA students are involved and working really hard I know this entire week they're rehearsing at the Robert Frost after school to make sure it's as perfect as possible but yeah they be paid apartments are preparing for shows and concerts like the theater department has their play I'm watching Peter and the starcatcher this year is going to be November 8th 9th 10th and 11th there's also a competition that were preparing for I'm involved in that too so that's it for the theater Department we have Homecoming coming which I mentioned last time but yeah I theme is Hollywood it's going to be the 13th of October Russell pending an assembly 3 days before so yeah and then we have a tailgate where clubs can come and sell food if they want to never end did parents or students like women wants to come to support our clubs but that's about it thank you all Noah's Ark replica go ahead and just tell us your name and then attend thank you okay so I'm high and sorry I'm late my name is Haley Fugate and I'm the Park High School I am in the Sears at representative and her school has some people stuff happening right now actually only very recently got a our own representative from the West Los Angeles College to visit us bi-weekly and help every senior he has a meeting scheduled with all of us to get us into either universities or community colleges both locally and foreign I'm actually applying for the University of Kansas our home and our teachers are currently working on improving the relationship between students and teachers we noticed that there was a kind of barrier so now we're working on making sure that everyone's included so we have a talk like we actually actually we actually had a meeting on the 14th of September where the entire or smaller school so we were able to have the entire student body and all the staff meet where we were able to voice but we really liked about the school year and we were able to have open conversations which is really great and this year we moved our schedule and I kind of a drastic way we now have 90-minute classes and we have quarter schedules which allows as an alternative school to on makeup any credits that we may not have been able to complete in high school and it really efficient so far and I'm back to school night is coming on October 17th from 5:37 when courage everyone to come and I'm not too bad thank you and thank you Emma and Haley and Andrea for your time we really appreciate volume on student board member so thanks for that alright so now we'll have we have a one card from mr. Jimmy's shanman I want to listen to talk about no time. Watch out. Putting on the normal yet so thanks for the time you want to say thank you welcome everybody yes it's back to school time which means what school programs are off and running I'm happy to say that every we met at we holler champions last week and everybody is geared up and ready to roll for this year's that's fantastic big kudos to have a new school drive safely School Champion there so fine barber schools are where they need to be against that's great October as you know is October's we encourage everybody to participate on some level hopefully we can all find a place where we can walk a little bit more often especially to and from school from work this is a city and school district-wide promotion we want everybody to be thinking about now it walktober but car free Friday so you got lots of opportunities to rethink your commute you want to get that word out to parents especially the traffic Rider what is at an all-time high as we want to reduce that as much as possible like urging people to walk and bike to school more frequently last year I'm in March we did have our art program contact men over 70 entries Gaijin in professional exhibit at the Helms Bakery our calendar features all of that artwork so I'm going to pass these out to anybody who doesn't already have one for you guys reminders in there special things like what school did I bike to school day are rock and roll festival and of course cart Free Fridays and then what school is next week not next Wednesday in 2 weeks it's October 10th so I'm pressing invite all of you to participate more in school since y'all Nails hope everybody got that in your rate of find your school and participate in salute the kids making an effort hopefully the high school and Clover Park High and a middle school off papers spinning and walk to school day and then lastly I want to mention 8321 is for the general public and for anybody here who doesn't know that was instituted at the beginning of the school year which simply means the city took advantage of a state law that allows us to expand our schools always to a thousand feet from 500 feet at 500 GB previously when it was 25 miles an hour now with the maybe 321 goes out to a thousand feet which means it a thousand feet is 25 miles per hour is 515 miles per hour so all of our school zone speed limits are much lower which makes for a while safer conditions for all of our kid and hopefully that will encourage parents to park the three blocks in walk because traffic will be going a lot slower so thank you to say thank you for the school district for your cooperation I'm probably about out of time might want to bring you up to speed on what's happening this year as always time tracker website CC Wok and Roll. Lynch and chili was gone by the time I got to the kitchen that was kind of bummed and but it did have some cornbread and I'm really looking forward to to Saturday night for the frost grand reopening yay that's it thank you summer hello everyone one thing I Jim I just wanted to put this out there particularly since you it reminded me of it one thing I want to encourage everyone to do and maybe Jim this is something that you know including in that what goes out from the Walking rollers it to be mindful Walker's cuz even though we have a lot of our community members who are starting to walk more we still have a lot of outside of Culver City people kind of passing through and there they are not aware of all of the initiatives encouraging people to drive safer and school zones and so I seen an increase of walkers but I've also seen an increase of we'll just kind of dropping their kids off in the middle of the street or darting between cars not at crosswalks I just want to encourage everyone to be mindful Walkers and be mindful of reminding your children when I get out of the car I look both ways and try to use the crosswalk whenever paw so my week has been my weeks have been pretty full with back to school nights I attended El Rincon is back to school night and walk around and had a great time seeing my one kids class yay down to I also attended the office of Child Development back to school night and even though I had already gone to El Rincon preschool back to school night I wanted to visit the Farragut office of Child Development also known as c e and I tore that location it was one of the first times I've actually been past the office where I drop off my check I want to actually see the classes and Baker campus then I realized there more classes over there than I realized. I was really impressed with what I saw a lot of the classrooms had a room full of parents that were there for back to school night very engaged with the teacher sharing what happens in the in the preschool classes so that was impressive I'll sue attended the Culver City Adult School back to school night and contrary to what my children thought that their parents come the parents of the adult kids come to back to school night to see their work on the wall it really was actually there welcome back staff meeting so I got a chance meet some of the staff there and just give them my own little official welcome back to the school and that was a nice experience I attended the College and Career Fair with my kids I was impressed with the number of college is that were there the boots there from local colleges community colleges International colleges as well as well as a lot of career opportunities with different agencies that were there to promote you know Junior lifeguard the shirt Mercedes Police Department just a lot of options for our students tonight I took my little ones cuz it's never too early to start thinking about college has Jennifer mentioned I attended the Lego teacher of the year award Connor W she and I just now Reflections time for the review those of you who who's at school participates in the reflections art contest hopefully all of our schools are doing it now are you can talk to your PTA wraps it's usually find a PTA at the site it's Reflections time and I attended dad's at El Rincon decided to do something a little bit out of the box we have Art in the Park at Fox Hills and the PTA fund it's a basic art supplies and encourage family to come out it was a really great opportunity for students to get together and do some art some of them just use it as an opportunity to play with their friends but I would encourage other sites to do it because sometimes the part of actually buying the art supplies may be hard on some of our lower-income families and so Houston budget for that be great and include more students than the reflections art contest we have an equity advisory council meeting this week that I'm looking forward to and one last thing is I had her first coronita meeting of the school year and there were some updates the lab Iona Farmers Market is up and running again and they did have a few meetings during the summer so it never really stopped at the Farmers Market at 11. I still every Wednesday morning there was is a farmer's market a second Farmers Market being run at Farragut in the afternoon on Wednesdays but that's been put on hold till further notice and as soon as it's up and running to service the community in that area in the middle school and high school students who were taking advantage of it I'll give an update for the backpack program we are at our highest first-week ever so the numbers are increasing so when you hear of the food drive that's going to be coming in November please donate whatever you can wear gift cards for Food Stores or money or just your time to help stock the pantry they will would really appreciate more hands on deck for that so the food drive will be in November some high notes from the summer since this is our first Fred for Corbin needs of the school year to my notes from the summer the cover closet had a pop-up store at La by on at the summer and they had a ton of backpacks and close many of the back door of the backpacks renew some of the clothes when do some more pre-owned add socks were donated they had a lot of corporate donations a lot of local donations and they service a ton of people that line was an hour and a half to get to the last person in line and when I went to pick up my son he was in preschool a bayona I saw about 6 of the little girls in his classroom or in the same exact dress and I don't know what it's from until they told me they all got the same dress from that from the pop-up store so it was really cute they also have the juice Jill Stein mobile I there was only 4 days this summer is service over a hundred people over a hundred seventy children seen in over 50 of them needed eyeglasses which is interesting and it led to a conversation in a cover needs that some of our students may have a hard time reading or doing their work not because they can't understand the work but because they can't see so if you have any if you have services that you're aware of that you want share with us the cover needs group meets every week you can reach out to do Sotelo because we now realize what that Sony that we need that we have to address if 70 students were seen and 50 of them need glasses I wonder how many of our 7000 students need glasses we're going without I'm so if you have any resources that you want to share with us please reach out to the truth to tell him thank you thank you Kelly okay hi I have to give my first shot out to Haley because is Haley and I went to Machu Picchu together it's not really sure but it feels like Machu Picchu because we went on that fulcrum ropes course together and we were we there's the one where you do with a partner and we did that with each other were you like climb up and you get increasingly sweaty as you are terrified and then up at the top you have to make eye contact and not look down and then meet each other in the middle and we totally rocked it and it was totally terrifying so hi Haley I'm glad you're going to be with us this year I still need to say something about National voter registration day because the part of it that hasn't been mentioned that I'm proud of is that both the city and the school district recognized it we passed it solution at our last meeting and support of it the city candidate proclamation in support of it to high school Culver City High School students last night and City Hall so it's really great to have everybody on board promoting registration and voting in advance of this really important election on November 6th and then I was shocked that that Mr Shannon didn't speak of experience a Linda but maybe it's cuz you ran out of time or because of the city yeah okay so I'll talk about it cuz it really is very much are student population which is experienced a lenda was a week-long trial run and just jump in where I get it wrong from a protected bike Lanes of an National stop sign and extensions extensions in crosswalks and I really ended so there was an expo in particular to show it off on its launch day it was super well-attended I know call mr. Quinn and I were both there I'm sure some other folks. Because you couldn't I was there the whole day very well attended very well received you know everyone seem to be really really in favor of these changes and I know that my children and other students that I spoke with commented on how much safer they felt on just that one small extension of a protected bike lane that students could take if they were traveling from Princeton slab Iona to the high school middle school campus or just in general to get from that side of town on Washington over to Culver boulevard so it was a fantastic Improvement and I am super excited to see that implemented currently which is coming is there coming okay so it'll be here next summer and it was a fantastic Expo and finally I went to the Culver City Historical Society Founders picnic last weekend and it's always a really fun event and I love this Society it's one of my favorite aspects of Culver City because there's just great archives in the history is fascinating but I learned that there is this really cool video that is a documentary of the first class of Culver City High School so it follows them because we used to just be K through 8 and I guess before that maybe work 8 or 5 or whatever and it follows the first 9th grade class turn became the first graduating classes seniors so I'm trying to figure out with their president hope Parish how to get it to us and figure out if we can have a viewing party speaking of parties I just wanted to add the 2nd October 2nd can be just as fun as the frost Gala if we just where are fine Downs no problem right and then that's all yeah I'll bring I'll bring pizza spank you thank you know who is catering that would work shop no budget for it for the budget Workshop so which is Potluck and Pizza Auburn cupcakes are we lowering you into a budget Workshop and I know we just want company we want friends there to know what people have already spoken to the things that I was also going to speak to you about a couple extra things quick question for Jim's he's out here what do we experience a lenda event when I do those events do they collect data or feedback and then before they actually implemented do tweaks or how does that work or they just do it and then run with it if you Call of Duty so that timer so he's been doing Outreach for the last year or 3 years fits this is pretty much the last big community outreach happens if you can actually see it and experience it so yeah they've been collecting data for the last couple of weeks on this they had a workshop this Saturday before my biona were they were getting Community input and they doing surveys all day long on that Saturday and the survey has been online ever since so people have had an opportunity to shine in good or bad there's been a little bit of both so they got me all that information daddy is before the Republic Street in actually get it right and it's been service purpose and just to tag onto until he said this also affects the area behind the school will be building crosswalks and Chrome extensions improving the entire neighborhood around La by owner does a lot more than just a lie that was one about four or five major aspects of this boards when they're collecting all that data and I I have a teenager that's guilty of this as well as I seen plenty of you know not so mindful Walker staring at phones that might be a great addition to one of the workshops and didn't the bike safety skills I know how to put that in but just to help our teenagers and adults were using phone be mindful that they're not staring at the gravel when they're walking around and then stepping into the streets I totally agree to getting the word out the teenagers in middle school will be a I think actually coming cuz you're so awesome thank you I did attend the coastal cleanup at that but heal the bay with a different group and I wasn't sure if Culver City Schools a representation there I didn't see anyone they are here anything but that might also be something that our students can bring back that we have a Culver City CC the bionic Renaissance 295 yeah yeah I want to go to the beach to do it and yeah so they cleaned up by owner. For what I know just like that club I don't think they went to the beach okay maybe could have representation of both we want to conduct the main area that that's good to know under the Venice Family Clinic is taking over the mental health services not the physical Thursday always need donations that looks like Venice Family Clinic will be looking go for the grant money for their new computer but again it's always in Don's donations Melonie Mac the executive director of ccef that Foundation did come and speak and I think there is some attempt to sort of streamline our efforts at ask but she to the big companies I know that we tend to do a local sites in our groups a lot of  to the company isn't so we're trying to streamline us so that we can make fewer ask hopefully bigger ask you know hopefully they come cuz I'm watching that part you know the bigger  will be and the frost Gala yes so this is Gala is also another word for fundraiser really it's a fundraiser in heels so hopefully you can buy your tickets at the 4th I think the real intent of was not to celebrate the grand reopening but also to really build an endowment of sorts of this building so we can leave a legacy for cheap for the future as well not can't be done unless it is stayed with money and is how many generating so ideally in a spread the word to your parents I still talk to a lot of parents and families out there who don't know about the grand reopening if they can come and see it is our opportunity but plenty of opportunity still to see it, this might be a nice time to celebrate it with large of the community and that is all I have for now we can have the recess as the agenda says are we having another suggestion which considered Ride Along 2 a superintendence action items which there are none so now we have Educational Services action items yes so thank you for president only remembers the board at this time I would like to present a new course at Culver City High School it's Dance One it actually is already occurring and we've had it already a through G approved with the board's approval we would able to provide credit for the first time to students who are in the AVP 1/7. So we're very excited to be able to provide that course offering to provide second discussion I was in favor to thank you very much for the next item it is to approve the contract for Culver City Unified School District and star Incorporated a star is the after-school program that is contracted to to execute the aces grant that we receive receive a man this is for students at La bayona Elementary School discussion all those in favor say aye all right business services action items with Robert Quinn thank you for 10.1 is one opening on the community budget advisory committee Seabeck add one applicants who got the application in before the deadline for that one position I believe she's here tonight miss Victoria's or pulley who is a Community member Farragut parents and also happens to work in the district I think she has a speech ready right victory no thank you though accordingly I will move it I will comment that I have a working relationship with Victoria and so I'm excited to see her be appointed on this committee any more discussion or comment thank you for replying yes fish ate it what was the favor I high they were serving now that discussion without it being an action item we did have at least two other people who expressed an interest in being on the committee did not apply to Justin talk to me all about it so in the discussion during our committee meeting last week the possibility of increasing the number of members on the committee was raised it currently has five community members among other membership qualifiers other people that are on the committee but there's five Community the discussion or the option was raised to increase that to 7 so I would just like to throw that out there for the board if you have any input we would do that if you so desire by changing AR 3100 at the next board meeting that would be my recommendation or request if you have any input on that I think you should just go ahead and put it on the agenda cuz we can't comment on right now then that's what I would plan on doing for the next for you thank you thank you and we can discuss point to what is a change order for frost for RTM some lighting work additional lighting work not to 35000 because of the amount on this one we do have a resolution to be signed for Legos purposes second any discussion all those in favor the next three are change orders for Frost and they are all in credit amounts their savings as we start to close out with the various vendors as this project comes to a close move them together yes you may and I will check in together 14.3 14.4 + 14.5 any discussion paper all right person Fox Meadows I'll tell you about all 4 at the same time these are all contracts with Loyola Marymount and then just renewals three-year renewals we have a contract for their administrative program for bird Spell preliminary administrative credential students in their counseling program School counseling students who might come work with us as interns as well as the fourth one thing's for student teachers moved through 15.1 through 15 4.4 I can second that any discussion I was in favor by thank you I know it we have eyes all right and now we're at adjournment this is to prep for our board budget Workshop next week alright I can move to return I'd like to join an in memory of Fire Marshal chief Mike Nagy of the Culver City Fire Department I'll second that I was a favor and thank you everyone
