all board members are here that the flag salute we have our young lady from Culver City Middle School who is going to sleep with his stare Chris Mitchell okay I understand Richardson my nation under to just ask a question regarding it's like an $80,000 expenditure for air conditioning I believe can you talk a little bit more about that what we're doing is we're placing portable air conditioners in each of the classrooms were teachers have requested them how else I request from some nurses etcetera and from the reports we've had there's a lot of a cooling being done by these little units and stop listening like a very worthwhile investment will working on installing them in an additional hundred 30 classrooms which is how many quest's we received and we're actually bringing in additional help so that we can get these done quickly Charles and Mike Oregon have been working closely with our sub tractors to ranged out of the stunt as well as our in-house m&o staff you're welcome oh we still have to move 6.2 forgiveness emotion please 26.2 purchase orders say discussion motion carries all those in favor say aye okay then we're up to 7.1 does that thing move automatically cow cats okay this is public recognition of a in a presentation who is doing this guess I'll just going to yes we have a real star we have a lot of stars a lot of stars in our district as we all know within our it department and lococo once again this year was awarded of acknowledgement for her work on which called The Cow pads it student information system and so we just said to acknowledge that publicly I don't see it here tonight but I'll be sure that we let her know that it was so we appreciate what she's doing and the says that she's reaching I don't know how many years she's been with us but she's on top Shazam fortunate to have a quality IT staff that we have dress any of the points she let's go to our superintendent has a very brief report I understand previty's in the eye of the beholder for the years okay so I'd like to begin and I appreciate how much clarification in board member chartier for a bringing some attention to our current mitigation plan so it's going to continue to be a difficult week Staffing for our students to focus on learning a very uncomfortable classroom so I would like to applaud our staff for their perseverance work that they're doing to keep students focused in themselves focused and sharing and coming up with a lot of creative ideas to make the most of some challenging classroom settings especially want to thank the work that Mike Reynolds has been doing with his team I in purchasing maintenance and operations Mike organ and the delivery crew play Garcia and ordering ice chests and and bottled water to classrooms so a lot of immediate efforts are under way in so I appreciate their efforts Charles your efforts with our team and also working with Balfour Beatty to get those installed so as you know why has Mike alluded to we have 130 plus units that are being I am an admittedly Mike and I were curious as to why such an increase in in the the rate of requests I wasn't exactly sure where that was coming from Anton conversation with Tracy for me on Friday I were a number of these requests are coming in and she directly tribute to those who would had made the request last year and I think that there had been an apprehension about whether these are actually doing anything or what the impact was and she indicated that the teachers singing their praises and we know their smaller units that but installed properly they're making a significant difference in the classroom so we feel that this is a wise investment obvious we are looking at a number of other options and short-term one of the things that we talked about as a board and I've had some communication with staff and community members about a policy that exist in a number of other districts as well which might be an early out for those days of extreme heat now obviously would require a very thoughtful throw and inclusive things we need to consider would be first and foremost impact on students and families and supervision on the event that we release students early during day after lunch before the heat sets in also we'd want to know what the impact would be on instructional minutes and what we need to do in that regard as well as would we have to have makeup days built into the calendar which is a little bit different so having been where there's snow you can do a makeup Day in June do I heat heat delay makeup Day in June probably not the wisest so we would have to look at things like if we have a Tuesday off after MLK day that might be one that is it is a non-student day but it would be a student day in the event that we needed to have makeups and look at other impact situation such as that and when and how and why we've looked at a few Paula I'm sure some policies how do you establish a policy to make a decision in a timely fashion how does that impact forecast how does that impact some classrooms and schools that do have AC so it's a comprehensive process but it would be something that would engage our staff the board and obviously the community as well so we drafted potential surveys that we'd be putting out there just so people now that we're looking at short-term Solutions and potential long-term Solutions obviously part of the bond process will include a comprehensive audit that assesses the current conditions that we have wear have everywhere we don't what we can do when it's the effectiveness of the mitigation plans that we have and that comprehensive analysis needs to be beyond what we think might happen that's in tip of costs so the board would be in a position to to develop a plan of action moving forward but again like my gratitude for the team and staying focused of course the last several days I have been very very warm also like two highlights on will be bringing these next month to you are emphasis deeper stronger better each year this time of year I've been apart of organizations where it's the flavor of the year or the new initiative or this is what we're going to try or here's a different Spin and that's not focus our focus is give off going deeper getting stronger and being better our Focus will continue to be Student Success or emphasis this year will be even more on evidence of him a recent Focus has been on evidence of implementation what are we doing differently what we want to focus on this year even more so is what's the measurable impact on what comes as it relates to the things that we're doing differently we also want to focus on or organizational culture and our belief systems who are work the kids at Hope and character counts will continue to create that picture of its positive kind and caring for all of our kids and for our Delta's well our emphasis about being resourceful responsible will place an emphasis on bond implementation is 40 scope and sequence a measurable accountable a plan and timeline that incorporates all of the projects that we have not only for the current series but for the subsequent series moving forward so that will be our primary focus a Clarity around our process or projects in our priorities and then our family engagement goal really be taking that that Culver City compact witches of powerful Visual and I believe in inspiring document in terms of its words and we need to put that to action thank you thank you Miss Katie just wanted to thank that the Culver Hotel briefly they had offered all of our employee district office at a free lunch and and so it was really nice our entire IT services team went last week and had and had a lunch together which is rare and it was it was very nice for them to reach out that leonetti celebrating all over the place family Foundation sponsored in a dinner downtown with all of the math folks that are participating it's getting quite to be a large group with all of our schools participating in the math leadership Core math math program in addition to we welcomed El Segundo and Weisberg DaVinci in into the mix so we had a really nice welcome dinner on Friday night and kicking off we have never been asked to go to the coats and board every year we present you know findings to a lot of different of our funders and and we've not he's not spoke with coats and we will be addressing their board on on Thursday so looking forward to meeting and being able to share the good work and then there's the end the infants celebrating Culver City so that's actually they're their agenda topic for their board meeting so so it's really nice that Culver City will be highlighted at their board meeting on Thursday afternoon you might have just seen the buzz on last Thursday afternoon we had over 300 iPad the way to teachers during art are Tech implementation I think I briefly spoke about our that the it being and its final planning stages at the last board boy it was exciting in there is a all checked out you know their iPads and then received training on how to use those iPads during small group reading instruction classroom so we had Elementary and Middle School on teacher participation in this Thursday we have over 500 Chromebook that will be given away for for similar you so I'm really exciting and I think I'm the IT department is also very excited that we're getting all of that devices out of the warehouse so they have room in there for new stuff coming in really exciting induction kickoff last Tuesday so our new teacher started their formal final credentialing program and head have to go into all of the high school new teachers classrooms the prior Friday and that was good because it was hard to find which one was the teacher and some of those class I'm so being able to see them all together in a room but but the enthusiasm was was really welcomed and I'm very evident in that so really excited so thank you Leslie with the teachers that were hired because so far were really really excited with that that the new the new crop of tea should we have in our having fun with them we've waited a couple weeks but tomorrow start 10 straight days of training the Viet Services team will be who was various grade levels or groups of teachers tomorrow starts our new Final Phase of cognitively guided instruction with Japanese immersion and El Rincon for 2 days and then we start more depth and complexity for our our questions for our or what do we do when students are already have learned it I'm Type differentiation Anthem some training so will we we we start a busy 10 days starting starting tomorrow and then just finally I think in in light of our test score release will be coming out this week Thursday Thursday and the papers just wanted to you know remind again that this is establishing a new Baseline for us there's no comparison with any of these tests that kids took you both took the last year to to anything that they that they've taken before so we're just looking forward to being able to have this as one of our left on that will we will be able to use to see where our strength and where are are some of the areas that we want to focus some of our our energy and resources you're starting all this in the middle of all this heat Katie absolutely absolutely you ever run down Katie never seen it she didn't hear me okay so we started our fitness classes I guess 31st with our group bike classes that's coming through YMCA so I'd like to thank my MC for partnering with us they have been incredible to work with did they all start offering discounts for all employees to join and on October 1st will start our physical fitness class with Crystal marotti she will be teaching a four-part series she's donating her Services which I greatly appreciate she will be working with us on budget planning 403b long-term care and life insurance how to protect to prepare your family so looking forward to that we will have only like probably 35 spots classes will be taking reservations soon we have also completed all of our mandate reporter training for our trainers and we've changed format a little as you know the laws change July 1st everyone has to go through mandated reporter training at Child Abuse Prevention and detection every year so alright Menace Traders have gone through their training and they have been trained their staff which is really nice the attorney that we worked with Gil Castro provided us with the PowerPoint server when basically it's just the same script and same information and so we will update that on a yearly basis we also have changed the way we do the central prevention training so that we now have time of face-to-face training usually done online but now we're making sure that everyone is trained in it so they can train their staff so some of the Departments have already completed that training you mean you role-play those harassment sexual will be interesting know we usually have had employees do the online training at a video and you know the problem with that is that after you've done that year after year after year it's becomes basically like static and so you really don't learn anything new from it so we decide to change it and have you no new information given and so that people are standing in front of their staff and taking and questions we have a lot of questions that have come up we had an consultant come in and do the training so she's been a great resource for us so so yet it's a good job on this Friday and everyone will take care of their staff by December 1st and then finally on September 22nd we will have our lunch and learn that I'm going to be our kickoff with Culver City where we're working with the internship program with our Culver Park students that are Culver City High School students those are interested will be able to apply for an internship for offering for internships for spots in the district superintendent's office Educational Services food services as well as office of Child Development and then 6 departments within the city so they will be able to enter in for have six weeks and we have three different sessions great ostrich yes she going back to school for some reason when she's already gotten a couple thank you Leslie Michael we recently received from the Department of State architect that all lower aldor latest submission of the architectural plans for the Robert Frost Auditorium project of reached DSA cast members signed our project will be unable to start their review of the plans until near the end of 2015. They said sometime around Christmas even start to review them and that's because of a backlog of existing plans missions mother districts that were behind that shut up as we had hoped to bypass that then delay at the DSA but they refused to Grant request from our check hodgetts + Fung to move the plan check to another employee who might have a smaller workload once obviously wants those final plans are approved able to like men's construction yeah it's very frustrating so I have no control over the DSA so also there was an art call LA times recently about a rubber pellets melting and an artificial turf field five of them and LAUSD I was drinking my coffee with Sandy and my eyes popped out of my head and I checked with first and field Turf let us know that the rubber pellets used in our Fields were manufactured here in Southern California they were high quality as opposed to the ones that were a cheap thermoplastic elastomer pellet manufactured in a foreign country and who are the shortest we're in good shape but that was quite the morning I have to tell you let's hear from the Middle School first and this is Miss Mitchell how do you say your first name sweetie and Aya going off the middle school got to tell you about is this work of dr. Gaetano wanted me to tell you about our Panther prep so in the first two days of school we had it's like a new way of explaining the rules of the school in a fun way skip the nukes the sixth graders excited and so you know they won't be as nervous so we have many Workshop shops from the web leaders they did fun activities so you know people would get to know each other and bond and it was the 8th graders you know it was like a way of telling the seventh graders and eighth graders to be like be more careful with a lot of fun too and I was there watching the interactive how is kind of happy about it cuz you know a lot of people really listen to the rules but this is the new way and fun way to learn we have our fundraiser now and we're phrase Beaver going to just alarm Tech days again and you notice do pep rallies and stuff and it's going to be a very funny or she had a good time Dad a lot of things planned out for us to do to keep us active so you looking forward to a good year and we have Bob schedule thank you Angela Ruby from the high school can tell us what's going on there so we have the first pep rally and first home football game last Friday how do we lost the football game there's a lot of spirit in the crowd is really in the student section which was really good and it was the largest crowd I have ever seen at the football game so that's good and then today was the first house of reps meeting which is when one representative from every teacher second . Meats in the multi-purpose room and we just discuss some issues or concerns they have it regarding the school and the restrooms turn off the lot actually in the girls bathroom specifically the doors some of the doors are missing a lock especially in the handicap bathrooms so they can't use that they can't use those that's those stalls because they're missing a lock and then some of the toilets flush According to some of the girls and then in regards to the boys restrooms they want mirrors and I know I talk Savvy about this and he said because a few oil back some of the boys would kick the mirrors so they broke but they want they want them back so that's that's a came up with at the house of reps and then just next and then next Tuesday September 15th of this scores having a voter registration of it which is a really big event for us the California SEC of State Alex Padilla at District elected judge and the superintendent Raleigh County Schools will be there and it's there's an optional assembly during fourth period with ASB president and other guests will speak and at lunch there's going to be a little Fair where Civic action programs are displayed to show students how to get civically engaged that's all for now yeah 30 to 11:30 oh bless you thank you dear blood drive again is what day this month it's the 21st of September on Monday yeah Monday the 21st that was a lovely Kris indication for something can I have a volunteer to go okay Stevie Stephen doctor 12 year old a couple of quick comments I was really pleased to see what what was happening with the iPads and in general it's indicative of Howard handling technology in that it's not just we get toys by we get technology and train people in how to use it to be effective / education soon keeping the gold learning in mind so Kudos Katie and all the people working with you on that and I also I wanted to come in at something else you mentioned which was the scores and that's just a reminder I've said this before but I think it's really important that we not just look at how did we do on the test but we evaluate test themselves do these really measure the things we think are important I know the state of California says these are the tests that measure what the same thinks is important but we have responsibilities look at that and see if we think they're right at both about what's important and about whether the test measure that so just a reminder went to fairy back to school night Wednesday seems like a long time ago ready really great to see people excited and and I talked to some pictures and heard some good things about the map program so that's good too to see that's taking hold hands at the last thing maybe the most important thing I wanted to mention I had a conversation with Mike and Dave about this and I pretty much know they're on the same page but it occur really is something I should bring up for the whole board and that is the way we look at the budget and the status of our financial State and so forth know that we get the reports like tonight and the stuff that the state requires and the state makes us look at every single purchase order as a board and sign off on those I'm clearly the intent there is the board is supposed to be responsible for making sure we're doing the right things financially but that is not the way just actually understand the finances and make sure we're doing the right things financially look yet every single purchase order is no way to have any kind of oversight so I had a little, Sation with Mike and Dave and what I suggested is something along the lines of Mike and his team pick half a dozen categories of how they want to divide up the budget to be meaningful and give us every so often whether it's every meeting or every since me we'll have to work out something that says here's what we plan to spend on these each of these categories up to this point here's how we differ from that and sing the significantly different here's why you know here's what's going on that wear under spending or wear over spending cuz both of those can indicate problems or they could turn out to be can you Parton I know you got a lot on your plate Mike and I'm not asking for this tomorrow but I thought I should mention to the rest of the board that I asked for that and that I like both you and Dave thought it was a good idea to see what weather the rest of the board thinks that's appropriate and something that we all are you know if we need to talk about are you suggesting that there be a little segment for Michael that sort of in layman's terms present stuff to us. I think when you look at the whole Budget Inn you have all the details you're missing the forest for the trees what I'd like to see is a presentation that breaks it down small number of categories and says we're either on track for what we thought we'd have spent by this time of the year or where we spent more than we thought at here's what's going on on always been we expected to win here's what's going on doesn't need to be a big deal it could take 5 minutes at each board meeting or maybe it would be 20 minutes every 3rd or 4th quarter but I think it would be a much better way to get some inside and oversight into what's happening with the budget then this routine of looking at every single you know what's going I agree I would just like to request that it be done in a visual like a I want layman's terms understand whether it's Bond money right. I am we can have a submit eration or discussion on what those categories actually are but I have a lot of bait been in Financial team and I think if we ask an intuitive you know where's the board I have an obligation to prove the purchase order so it's not just the function of it being about the budget spell expenditures purchase orders that range in size from you know ten bucks to a billion dollars and you have a 1 line title yes we have to approve those but ultimately for the vast majority of them were simply trusting that we're in good contact with the team and we know what they're doing I think we have no choice but to do do that that's required by law but the intent of that lies clearly that we understand the budget of it more than just you would like to have some contacts as I say like I'm not pushing to have this come two weeks for now cuz I know you're doing a lot and I'm not trying to ask you and your team to whole lot more right now but I know couple months something like that suggestion to me thank you please turn off you're done okay so have all sorts of different things and I've been talking quite a bit to the organizers of the stem starts that our history teachers will choose to go I wanted to it's November 13th crash with the dates in here there's a it's a two-day Festival of Friday and Saturday Friday is just for schools same just Joe and I wanted to try out the idea if I could help facilitate conversations between some of them the right name right Albert Kahn wanted to think about post activities that you want me to help example they wanted to talk to some people that some of the science going to be discussed is it puts it into it puts it into a nice contest about about it being mean of meaningful part of their instruction so I think it it just encapsulated so that's great thank you related to at the Baldwin Hills Cab will be having the periodic review of what's going on with the oilfield it's tomorrow night at Knox Presbyterian Church at 7 so if you have Lowe's weather in C by Arrow by Cleveland I was thrilled reading the reports from the Middle School The Heist actually all the schools but in particular there with the new way that the Middle School brought the students in having been there years ago when it used to be on really happy to hear that they changed the tenor of it High School have quite a few differences this year I went to the marina back to school and I heard one of the best explanation of coats yet and I forgot the name of the teacher Monica Bell pedometer I was just there anyway we just happened upon it I was like excellent. And somebody should have recorded it when she was that way in high so good I wanted to mention I of course we all spent our time melting at the booth at the biona festival thanks next year we need to do it a little bit differently either we get double size if we're going to have that much stuff in there Forward Dental I mean people had no idea that we were even in there with the with the whole table of the rock and rollers stopped about half the booth and then fit foundation and all we had was just a little tablecloth and it was sort of Jason maybe have a banner have more space you know they were all good programs and all deserve to be there by then Sandy's table glitch occasionally Mr zeidan said he was going to pull every string he could put us in a shady area all that I've been so I'm into that are you anything and I would be happy to help coordinate that next year at the council the other side is that we can think we aren't them or separate so I also wanted to throw up atop an issue that has come up in a number of meetings I've been it hasn't been brought up at a board meeting but then we have talked about having a person does community coordination community outreach connected to the compact connected to the program's if we're doing the business community and I suggested we look at how we can have someone doing that and I don't know if that's going to be your intern Dave next on the list of what you're interested in do or if it's a bigger project we need to look at having a person to do it but I would just like for us to make a look at heading up to Abbott speakers and speakers for the high school Victor sent compote into that because it go through just about any of the high school oh and that my last thought of get your conditioning is ID I'm thrilled with what we're doing is you know we're doing everything we can in the short-term just don't want to get my play. Planting in the number-crunching in the wallowing around in the what if this what if that so sucks that we don't look at the long-term solution you know we've been talking about this for a while I did he said I would just like to see a number what would what would it cost to stick an air conditioning unit in those blue cabinets what would it cost what is that number so that we know what that number is then we can deal with it and say that we want to put that much fun money to wear air conditioning for 6 weeks love to know what that number I don't know what's involved in getting that number but I'd like to see in the other number to look at it's not just the money it's going to take half of what is that the general one last electrically a crazy flower all that stuff Fresno Bee buildings where you have to redo the wiring to put in there show me my house and it requires electrical upgrades does that mean it has to go to the DSA which means we won GSA just want to strangle all around like to Facebook so you're against Walla Walla will be adding to that because you need that one of the things that will also be looking at is a variety of mitigation plans because we have some facilities that have a two story bowling in a cafeteria that already have centralized there that's just a few steps away from a facility that doesn't So the plan that could exist there might be dramatically from another environment that might need a plan that is more individual base for corner unit based or even window unit face so looking at a variety of the different options setting up the audible point out as some of our spaces are even more warm and uncomfortable due to the fact that they don't have any air should they don't have a shade structures to outside so we're going to take a look at it holistically as well so I think the mitigation plan would be diverse and depending on the location finding out we'll have a figure attached to it is that what you're looking at replacing the windows and what is that once there more double pane energy efficient acting out history so many pieces to all of these puzzle snap and it gets done overnight it's awesome I think that's a good point recognizing that just about every single thing that we want do I take you to consideration when the facility was made and what products they used at that time and Hazmat mitigation and at all the implications that are associated with that in display and so it will be a very comprehensive process and timeline not only identify the projects and endoscope but once you analyze the current what I can and can't do so there's some compromise between getting a perfect I'm taking forever and not doing it well and doing it fast have to be somewhere in between I didn't and I'm dirt the other thing is I do support the idea of looking at Anna do we need to have them anything also look at it how much is that the other one potential one is should we have temperature classrooms reach a certain temperature by a certain time the day regularly that are one kids with a particular all of those things would have would have to go into consideration I want to kind of piggyback off of what two thing you know because the legislation regarding the lease lease back in Fresno and that's postponing our summer projects I think hearing a lot of sucks the board member is getting pushed back from the community about what is actually happening with the bond money what's going on so wondering if we can be proactive in our communication with the local prepped Regarding why those summer projects were delayed and provide some context for the community and now we're learning that we have to wait till December before the DFA even looks at the plans for the Robert Frost maybe we can be Pro given that communication as well and I don't know if we want to open that can of worms but maybe air conditioning the policies of minimum days or whatever but I just think we're going to have to be more proactive that communicating these things because people don't see things happening and so they get x-rated and they feel like the board is not doing anything so yeah we have absolutely positively need to do a better job about communication reality we need to get to work I mean we absolutely positively need to invest $2 I think what will be able to see now is is because of having the the specs for all of those summer projects that are now Phase 1 we're going to be working with each individual site water those projects one of they going to take place engage the site we envision having visual who's in each Lobby of each school that have a timeline and who can what the project is and when which ones are going to impact student displacement we may one Engage The Board considering portable facilities that have two classrooms at every site that can rotate classrooms in there so we can be working in their classrooms so proactive strategies that we can communicate what we're doing when we're doing and who's doing it and why were doing it and then we should be held accountable by our community but to Tate what's been accomplished is unacceptable and also our communication in that regard needs to improve I agree I think for so long you know we were so used to cutting that we had never thought about like wouldn't it be nice if we had XY or Z we just don't not really sure what XYZ what for you know when we didn't have dancing for the album con science lab we all knew that we were all talking about it I'm glad it happened so I'm just wondering is there something you know last and our last board meeting I was talking about the music program and that original plan had included two days a week at the elementary schools and there was a confirmation as just one day a week can we look at more music classes with that mean we've need another music teacher do we need more IT staffing do we need a community liaison to help move the River City compact forward because I think the Bond is I mean the board is definitely open to providing that support and then laughed I was chime in I think really with our Focus to be evidence-based evidence of pace evidence-based is to be able to articulate it holistically not singular data point like Steve was alluding to but that we can come forward with organizational student staff and community-based needs and goals and objectives not just needs but also gold you know how how do we get proactive and what something we want to accomplish and we know that dedicated Personnel would help support that so we'll will start taking a look at that from a needs-based perspect thank you and then last time you said went to the Farragut back to school night it was just for a quick visit but I was so happy because I ran into some and that I hadn't seen a long time I didn't realize their kids were at Farragut and they the first words out of their mouth was we love dr. Rebecca Lynch we love her South yay we like our principles to be happy okay hi wanted pick it up on something largest about Staffing I mean I think we have had various cutbacks whether it be in program a b c music we we put back after headed to OKC 12 p.m. he actually need more stopping to make that a reality and I know that this is happening because I talk to you what are we doing in terms of articulating arm what is RI Academy offering another language in wanting to gain greater 4/5 Proficiency in those languages tomorrow there is to look at given that we have the eye Academy now and can how early how can we best Leverage that resource type and then just just the basic things like you know I'm not just talking about how's we have let's look at counselors look at stead of LAUSD were nothing happens into a price as we try to do in this District the past and burn up counselors cute kids I don't know whether it's a counselor whatever the staff how do we I was at home right now as soon as mansion round and see how they kind of rearrange things out they have full day kindergarten there for the past couple years and great roofings and so forth the rooms after however many years but you know I know that there's a for back to school nights tomorrow Lauren, I think I'd signed up for my own outside happy to do it I also this Saturday went to see June which is short movie that one of our students who was in the Middle School the time how old are students but one who was the director of God Sedalia shorts Festival and I was very cool and I can tell you without hesitating by far the pics of all the student movies pause plotline laws yes yes Maggie directed it and it was so now there was a lot of community input on that name of show all the different how to get to know the carpet and do the Cunin and those jeans and I think you know we have brothers in the middle school and we see this whatever the program is what music articulating up theater articulating up have a strong program at the elementary and the middle school then we see the end result in a larger marching band in my years on the then I did this past Friday night right and I know the football game there's also the dance crews there in the cheerleaders are there on the marching band is there and there's a student section from people you don't even know what's really so much stuff anything stupid anyway what is it's a fun it's a fun Community evening there's lots of parents there were supporting there are you know trombone player or their cheerleader or whatever anyway so that was that was a fun day and also started off Labor Day weekend which was a tablet I had worked piggybacking on the whole AC issue I worked one summer and a bakery Factory and when it got to be a hundred grease in that yeah that was cool you are some major hot Connecticut it was hot in that was in that factory so I hear you students climate change whether you want to believe in it a couple of things that I want to chime in there and we certainly appreciate you or your thinking challenges about lemonade so we'd like to modify the all-caps to be reflective the L now stands for lemonade lemonade consumption all pupils that's what I look at now stands for but I did want to reference some of those ads that are already you better need space tailcap processes that we know that Katie and her team has facilitated engaging community members members engaging staff that's in increased Intervention allocations which which has increased personnel has had an impact on counseling Staffing dedicated counseling Staffing at the elementary level increased counseling Staffing at the secondary level for the high school as well as for Culver Park and then also recognizing we've extended days and time for an hours for our health office assistance as well as having that at a nurse this year as well so some of those things work we're very proactive and you already encourage An approved and I do think it is not just for me but for the audience to hear it haha Senator to be aware that we are paying attention we are Chipley implementing Staffing placements increases as needed I'm in response to that hits It's a tremendous asset to have you who have been on the board for you can see the changes and you can Valley please let him know thanks the difference however I do not like to hear that locks on girls bathroom restrooms are not there because years ago it was a big issue and people would go home it's not been an issue lately so I'm hoping we can get it can be destructive of the focus for academics cetera but I'm very pleased to participate on the 15th of September in the voter registration and Sue's going to go I found the Lin help back to school quite invigorating for me elementary school has play my focus and so I learn every time and if you don't think that are in miss indelicato our Miss well I remember when she first started and how far she has come and how much we have to be great cuz I sat and talked to her at the yes yes it was so hot I melted into the chair and they finally had to take me out and put way too hot some of our wonderful people live a very far and for her to come in for that I thought would showed such dedication and she was her to the point talking to parents it was it was very gratified so I am not going to keep you anymore I know you're all wondering will she give us a recess she will and I will date take a reef Baton Rouge your bathroom are young girls can then go home and do their homework let's take a ten-minute recess okay with me but the agenda shows the former salary I was jumping the gun or I was jumping the gun probably because I would like you forgive me and you are right present John thank you for the recess Chan there's so many people out there there's Kelly and there's yeah Deshawn you media there were essential things I had to do alright so we all need to project we are coming up on 9.2 which is the unaudited actuals and Azhar start actor Sean Tierney are you a relation to the CUNY that that settled in California does a Kearney Street in Santa Cisco are you related to Siri Shawn Kearney Alright good evening I'll be presenting the 2014 18 and audited actuals before I get started I just wanted to acknowledge my staff this year we were fully staffed everybody's doing a great job and if turn all the school sites are going off for a month-and-a-half we're kicking it into high gear but I mean it's such a group effort and we just were able to finish on time and I'm here she was just a great effort by also like to thank them and before I get started who is just going to be kind of a high-level overview you know of course if you have any questions or want to sit down with me after the fact I'd be more than happy to do so and Steve I think that's a great idea and Rick some different categories you know budget items to go over will be happy to provide that you to speak into the microphone just because of the fans going will resident so like I said it's going to be a high-level overview and before I get started my first two slides there was there's a big accounting change and this was in regards to Gatsby 68 so the first two slides you'll see kind of a positive change in regards to the Rev listen expenditures what we have to do now as a result of Gatsby 68 is we have to record a journal entry to basically good nice it's what they call the stairs on behalf payments and so kind of what we're doing is recognizing the state's portion of their contribution tell employee stirs so it's the Eternal entry it's it's basically a wash at the end but it's it's recording that revenue on the state side and then it's also recording expenditure so we didn't budget for that because if you know we kind of like to keep it at actuals and it keep it a little bit easier so when you are revenues and transfers in you'll see our estimated actual we're going to be comparing estimated which was the last budget to our unaudited actuals you see a pretty positive change of almost two million dollars I don't know if you can read it a little note on the bottom but the journal entry I was talking about accounts for 1.5 million of that and it's kind of the same thing on the expenditures in the transfers outside you'll see you know a pretty big change from made it actuals to our unaudited actuals but the better comparison is the third slide as I was saying that entry is kind of a wash so you'll see it for our estimated actual as we are projecting a deficit of a little over two million dollars and in reality when are unaudited actual was it was about 1.8 million and that was cuz we we tend to budget our salaries and benefits a little bit more conservatively and then also on our local Revenue side because that's where we're having donations come in and we're doing our buildings to to recapture some of our expenditures as well so we're kind of cancer Devon that so those two items kind of resulted in less of a deficit this physical year obviously we were planning an accounting for that we had significant Swinson staff additions you know our salary increase things of that nature so that that's pretty much what what accounts for the difference but you know at the the day it was about a 1.8 million dollar deficit and going forward there you know I just wanted to highlight some big chain that kind of happened you know around the time of the budget adoption and then going forward for this year obviously we're losing our measure parcel tax revenue 1415 was the last fiscal year that will be receiving that that was that's going to be a loss of about 1.2 million and that's ongoing 16 fortunately we were able to negotiate with a county to kind of do a step-down approach for rrop funding we were getting roughly about 760 $2 a year for ROP program in 15 16 that's going down to a little over 300,000 you know obviously we're going to continue to operate that program and then fry one of the biggest positives is the new Adult Ed funding will be receiving through the Consortium you know when when all the state budget cuts came through move a handful of school districts cut the program out completely we continue to find it and now here we are and we're kind of having a positive result from that Veronica working she's part of the Consortium and so I worked with her and she gave me the number will be getting about one 1050000 and so that has a has an impact on our general fund because now we won't have an we won't have to do our transfer into kind of helped operate the program so that's going to be up pretty significant benefit to the general fund and the one time and a block grant funding that was you know a pretty significant amount of money year when we had adopted the budget it was about 3.9 million they kind of revise that estimate down and that now we're looking at about 3.4 million dollars also no positive infusion for the general fund in this physical years where as well so we did have some deficit spending you know in 1415 but I'm here we are going forward where do you know we're projecting the Surplus based on on these items as well so that was pretty much all I had for my presentation if anybody has any questions at the answer I think you could figure we knew you were projecting a surplus from the fact that everybody came in so you are we going to spend money exactly and of course the Gap funding increase was pretty significant as well this year that also. Also how to mitigate the measure loss of Revenue as well I'm just curious if they offer us any alternatives to the ROP are they making nice yes at the county level at all I mean that's a big drop from 760 to 3 yeah they're there is some history behind that if you want to have her okay we can talk about that day we were pretty fortunate to get this going for for 1569 I believe so it kind of is what it is pretty much the same as we are chocolate any other comments for Mister Money now writing down the things I don't traveling superintendent 12.1 this may I have a motion to approve the waiver of the board bylaws 393 20 meetings and schedule of proposed dates so I have an excuse me do we have any discussion Shifting the date in 1 m going to the from the 22nd to the 29th you on in the audience knows we will not be meeting two weeks from tonight we will be needing 3 weeks from tonight how to wire few of us would not be here hum so may I have a any opposition know everybody phone all those in favor of the motion carries I'm laughing at myself because I get bored with the predictable and you can why do this a different way every time don't I I think I did alright we are now on 13.1 Educational Service items and set a motion to approve the clinical training agreement between Mount Saint Mary's University Los Angeles and Culver City Unified School District is there any discussion all those in favor potion carries 13.2 can I have a motion to approve the memorandum of understanding between our house grief support center and River City Unified School District skeleton forgive me I am not looking up there and looking at my paper so we are up to 14.2 is to motion to approve the unaudited actuals 2014/2015 14.1 discussion all those in favor motion carries 14.2 education to a does a motion to approve please the education protection accounting spending plan 2015-16 discussion all those in favor I motion carries my love right one now 14.3 14.3 may I have a motion to approve a resolution number 3 the cost accounting standards for 2015-16 secondary discussion all those in favor ocean carries we just going through these streamlining .4 may I have a motion to approve resolution number for the Gann limit calculation which I finally understand discussion looks like just John do you want to answer that Circle Sarah to required motion it's part of our standard account code structure all that the state requirements there's a lot of history behind it I believe it started back in 1979 and it has to do with Creations limit set each year basically the district cannot spend above whatever this appropriation is limit is each year and there's various cost adjustments and other factors that that factor into it I never seen any District I guess it's been over there limit and have to give anything back the stay it's just more of a formality I could definitely provide you with and I think we were at 79 where we riding Herd on what our officials did so like I said I did my research on it so thank you very much can some favor is there any of the discussion now all those in favor by the motion carries can now we are to make sure I'm on the right place without gambling and Personnel are we all the way up to board self evaluation and this is Steve turn to tell us how wonderful we are well maybe not too wonderful we have our listener okay so we study the agenda sorry did we study the agenda for the meeting and clarify questions in advance yes I think we've straight on that 5 out of 5 participated the meeting with no one dominating yeah that's good too listen to tentatively has he participants spoke of Winning Side conversations yes you could get that will treat each other with respect and courtesy yes repeated atmosphere of trust in open this I think so yes focus on governance rather than operations during presentations and discussions I'm usually the culprit but I think we did okay follow the agenda and not get sidetracked yes the great on that was information provided in a manner that made it easily understandable subject to the fact that this seat tells us how you have to prevent provide the budget yes it was the agenda we'll plan to focus on the work the Border say I have a motion to adjourn fleas and does anybody have a request to adjourn in memory of or in representation of somebody very special and that's the truth okay motion to adjourn please any discussion motion carries future maybe I'm all those in favor I want to ask you a question about the 17th
