and after so many decades with us students to come back in and she did she was excited about it and it was she always calls me her political Mentor which I find hilarious because she is the mental for everyone who drowned in terms of the way that we deal with this she is the first of all look to for guidance she provide the teacher prospective a longevity of service which is unbelievable a very rare and what is a mimosa Nancy she's never said a negative thing about any funny exact when someone emails her criticizes and she says she goes back and thinks I've said this differently I've done something so unusual for anyone in public service I'm so excited for your retirement and all of the time velociraptor six decades in this District helping our kids and helping our community I think we job and have to imagine how much all of us have to work harder all of us have to work for Nancy service thank you very much and then Jim Clark my tribute is primarily to Nancy Goldberg so I do thank you for your service Laura I just don't know you shortly after moving to Culver City 10 years ago I was thrilled to learn that teachers if I could bring honor to my profession by supporting their campaigns thank you Nancy Goldberg for rent and will bring honor to our profession normally as a school board member while you're 46 years I'm sorry to Culver City students and their community are we simply told one of your neighbors that the indoors most for school board candidate dr. Kelly Kent was that up. Neil Siegel Islip Nancy you brought honor to our profession in the way you taught as described my LG phone in his book what it means to be well educated teaching students to simply absorb a pile of information with the primary purpose of reproducing our current culture Bankers Life long intellectual explorers active participants in democratics play good friends or lovers or parents Nancy hours and Alfie Kohn stations to the Culver City School Board singing education as a means for strengthening democracy for promoting social justice or simply bus what's the well-being and development of students themselves mostly because you have honored our profession sway's I am so alone you the every Doctrine venkat enjoy attending these meetings because I come away all the time uplifted about all the great work that you do I wish there was as much enthusiasm sometimes to get the city Calvin and Laura for the service that you've done and I don't like to the students and then School District but also to the city I think unless one has been a an elected official you don't really understand how heck and there are a lot of elective hectic that life can be I mean you're right. That's gracefully gliding across the lake but I think we called underneath me when I catch up labor jiggly thank you for your efforts on behalf of the city constantly reminded by our new residents that one of the main reasons that they are moving to Culver City is the quality of our schools so thank you Laura and Nancy not caring about our kids but helping to make our city a desirable place to live work learn and play district is an integral part of our efforts to make Culver City special that's one of the reasons that I serve on the city school district liaison committee with councilmember Sally wells in with Steve Winwood Sue and appreciate that that opportunity I want also make sure I give a shout out to you don't want Overlook you Kathy get to the senior member of the what is a senior member that Council in a different way than you're the senior I want them are our new members and I look for and I play be able to continue to work in partnership with them lastly I appreciate the work that the now lower if you put that sign of If I Stay things about you what you help me holding it down yells okay can you have made to the Centennial and I really look forward to it making the Centennial great to be buying City School District Active Laura is one of our key murders in that as she leaves the board so the school districts lost is our Centennial state Aurora City continues to do on behalf of the PTA agencies which I appreciated give me a car on it my colleagues on the council were very sad for this that you both leaving but look forward to the continuing relationship it's thank you so actually on behalf of all of the administrators in Culver City Unified School District I just wanted to thank you for your dedication your support for all of the students as as you hear all the parents speak one of the things that's really important for us as administrators be able to provide the school's the program the teachers and support everybody is the support that we get from the board members as well as the District administration so thank you thank you thank you for all that and thank you specifically for all the support for Kohler Park also and and I know that the district the test with looking for a place for Cobra Park and it Italian date they have to believe me they don't forget if they don't forget it Kingler thank you for being the spokesperson the person that on the board that keeps adult education in our adult Learners at the Forefront of the conversation so that we don't get lost in that and I'm happy to just let me know who's taking on that too tight I wish you know who that person is sick and just thank you and you will be missed and I really do look forward to working with the new board members in the recipe sleep on by Barbara hello Kelly cash I guess I have to get comfortable here very soon but right now I'm here unfortunately for you but that's unfortunately for me only gotten to know Nancy recently but that's working for you because I'll be songs with you recently through my headed to see the school board and so are getting to know each other for the day weekend and so what about you was really quite fun for the very fundamental and I think Carlos will do it earlier we did you see cancer so clear that every single question you ask and every single policy that you make a decision on his mode find your tournament desire to bad intention for every student in this district and so the only way that I can do any service and panty I will say thank you and you know in any way try to follow in your footsteps is to make a commitment and so I went to Commandments my first commitment is with should I ask if every decision I made the same supposed to say casinos question and Emily he was decision for the right reason which is to better serve the educational needs of every student in his district good evening romantic Cinema Sunday 4 to 8 my name is farmer holding in many many years ago I had a similar meeting where people were saying goodbye to me and I have to send one here on the room and I think Leslie the only one who was around at that we all stand on the shoulders of everyone in handy for us watching the district row with new leadership has been remarkable as an employer Valley Unified School District I can tell you it's been remarkable and and a pleasure that I live in Clovis but what I wanted to do really it's just welcome you to the group of former school board game and that we solo most of those who say you're happy with the district by Jessica because we didn't go the school board to be on the school board we went on the school board children there's nothing going on here but that's what I thought and the next dimension how are you Siri so bitter what I was going to say tonight was it set by Carnival in others especially Carlos in a much better than me so I'll be short as well I got that from killing by the way but I will be short I want to thank rubber floor mats for the four years of working on the school board and of course one more time before and afterwards for are your for your hard work you're one of the things for me and you not to talk just for a second CSU ready, when Barbara talk about how our daughter Tonya was served by you was a great teacher Encore cement the teachers as well and then you were bottle very much and to make her schools that much stronger then you after that decide you want for you have enough to Culver City so go by yet another thing to do sanguineous that you did but one of the great things that I really appreciate about Nancy is the week you are able to connect to people in the community and you do that because of the respect you have for people only have 4 people the hardest thing we know beneficials our community members is how difficult it is get participation from the community will hold the seat 10 times more people at a meeting forget may not be but to get into the phone now and it's really hard to get into it if a Community member feels that they will be criticized Kobe down there they won't be accepted now she's never done that you've been just the opposite and so we can thank you so much for a lot of the Asian people come here knowing that I'm going to listen to not going to a nasty email going after them criticizing them is okay being and rolling up your eyes or your bottom language anything like that and there's nothing more important in a democracy that they have elected officials like you who are increasing the participation I'm making sure that only cost your so your input which makes a better decision and only helps build education to hire extend self can you do cheat with that idea Miller raising your voice Miller criticizing someone who have something to say cancel again thank you so much for everything you've done for us Laura and Nancy I want to thank you guys so much for your service Nancy thank you for your many many years of service I have so much respect for you and thanks thank you for your interest in the backpack Pro I know if you try to get in there and tell that you're so busy and so many other things never work but thank you so much. what I feel most guilty I love you so much thank you for everything you have given me as a parent volunteer and board member Julian lucky to have you as my mother to court something I would say often is a 6 year old boy other than the holy Virgin Mary you're the best mom happen Frozen cake CarMax the first do I know exactly how to follow that act not even try so I have a few words to say the word it is finally going to do everything else first time a couple other things we did after I just come through again please and I wanted to come in and out a little bit because like every campaign they were things for some supporters who said negative things there were some things with low turnout and so forth but I wanted to point out that we also had a campaign with some good ideas brought forward in with a good discussion in the community and some people who got involved to Heaven involved before and I will carry that forward the people who were thinking about this and we're involved in the campaign over not involving the campaign but saw what was going on we'll recognize it as a stay involved in the community you know not disappear and never be seen again until the next election but show up to the school board meetings Wilkie what's going on stop at the workshops for the bond or the whatever that the sustainability committee are all the things that give people involved in our schools I also before I forget one of point out that there's a stem starts festival at West LA College on Friday and Saturday and a lot of cool stuff going on students there on Friday and general public on Saturday and be there with NASA and JPL for part of that too open doing is talk about or it is because everybody already said all these great things and talked about your service then I could Echo pretty much all of those comments and then talk about how it's been great working with you on the board I'm not going to try and top all that in Fallout say that instead want to do is ask you for more so I know you're leaving the school board and now you don't have to show up but I also want to point out that you bring your perspective that's pretty rare and we have it's nice to see we've gotten multiple former School Board I members in the audience but that's also pretty rare and you both have contributed a lot to the district and the price for contributing lot people always want you to do work I'd like to ask you to pay attention and see what's going on in the district as I know you will and comment tell us about it and we could still use your advice and your experience and we wisdom so instead of saying how wonderful you are I'll just ask you for more okay I'll do my other stuff first I did attend the stem how Prince with what's your coffee and a large number of people I was there to try to get information about things that would help us the best design so I attended anything that had to do with side flaps how to make the facility the room work big makerspaces are spray Fontana. so I got some good ideas well I know that some soon as familiar going and some students from the middle schooler going to the stuff starts festival and it's open all day so Saturday it looks like a great Festival lots of lots of science-oriented organizations with activities and programs for the kids coach go so they know I was honored to be invited to be the keynote speaker at that parent conference at Culver City Middle School last week and just if you're curious I thought you're asking me to speak about how to help your child be successful in middle school and I focused on teaching your child resilience an organizational skills because I think those are the two most important things that need to come out of middle school cuz I think you need to go into high school with those organizational skills study skills all figured out you don't have time to learn that the high school have to have it when you get there right a lot of people looked at me and didn't like that I said that but I think one of the most important things you have to learn to Middle School in what to do when things don't go well when you don't do well on the test me don't did you use it as a springboard for future success so yes when I said that awful f word some of the parents got upset with me but I Courtney blessing also the OC I'll just going to say the election of congratulations to our new board members and look forward to working with both you and down to you too there's so many wonderful things that I don't think I can have anything you but I would just like to say it has been such a delight to be on for that had a desire to be glad everyone here wanted to make this work and do what was right on YouTube with the letter v really crazy for me cuz it was so nice to put into a group of people ask we've got ready to minister first name in great students grade teachers but we also know that our facilities are all about 50 years old or more and they really need Columbia more than spending on them recognizing that you know in this setting and and the role in the preparation in between all of the meetings Rebecca Williams makers Leslie in Canada we wrapped all of those things so thanks for all of your your work really just how we are going to take about a 15-minute break it says 20 minutes but it's 980 take a 15-minute in the lobby as we are celebrating thank and continue our honoring of our two of them were same thing Ice Cube this is a historic occasion play football necessary Love lyrics Chastity fruit percent 10.2 I'm ready if you are in the same rate so are you as you may know the state recently allocated Monies to local school districts around educator and back of desk in the front business in the form of a block we are receiving / 5 $2,000 be able to describe it this year and over the next two years to improve educator effectiveness an excellent week we kind of have some broad Strokes of a deal we can can use it a picnic we can use this money for teachers and administrators or paraprofessional four main areas that we can use on the funding for and so what we've kind of outline are are some of the areas that we are either looking into our house how to send the funds when it is first area or coloring does induction plus so we know we've had a Arctic O'Reilly induction and the last couple of years it's been very sell weave where the number of the teachers we have we actually are our had to add two to the team and and it's not let perhaps provide enough support for all of our new teachers the only thing we've been able to provide is the support for the the do teachers that by under induction so what are the things that were hoping to do is actually looking and I can not talk and it also exclude special teachers so for some reason when bits and was initially design special education was not included in it is very few districts that are that actually are are providing it and so we're looking into the possibility a local school district of head really and is it written that was it was denied I'm at we're following that legislature and that and that appeal process may be paid on on on what where you think you successfully currently our special education teachers have to go outside of the district pay for their their their credentials looking at witness funds one of our intentions is to be able to look to expand the program in include all of our unqualified teachers in our district including special at we also would like to to look into how we can expand offerings for our new teachers which was already fully credentialed but are still need a car seat and so being able to provide you know the them opportunities for some of our after-school sessions some of our classroom management sessions perhaps working with is wild hurt and and our Union around maybe bringing them back earlier a few days so we can provide some of the professional development to them and to pull them out of the classroom so we're looking at the possibilities of of how we can expand for all of our teachers and as well as administrative professional to help what can we do to support a new administrator II area had gone away and categorical programming back in 2008 and it's it's around coaching and mentoring with specific of improvement of instruction of teachers and maybe those also included that include teachers that have been identified as I'm leaving in prevent also one of the things that so this is kind of lump together as coaching those that they need Improvement husband has been the idea of a special education 207 throughout session to do the do the last year we've we've the intensity of many of our cases has increased and our program specialist I'm very hard at at creating that programmatic out here but it doesn't provide them the time to get into the classroom construction is happening with our students and giving our teachers that and so what we're one of our ideas is that when does special education tells that if we're able to do the induction with the special ed teacher we're pretty sure that that requirement of including Special A Goshen in in adoption would require a credential special ed teacher to provide a lot of those services to those new teachers so so it's kind of I could have special attosecond both sides that it was that the hope is to the day would provide a dual role well and be able to get inside the classrooms we also the number of interns or long-term substitutes filling those positions long-term substitutes do not qualify for induction tell me those are in our special ed Fields this you heard Leslie Lockhart talk about being that the part possible partnership with you I see around that insurance because it's I need area special education support here is that as a kind of a reoccurring theme throughout throughout of the funding that set for hoping to be able to eat a license and then and also this purposeful professional development the stronger better that you heard from Kim Adela Colorado tonight we've been doing it since it's going so well and now we need to make sure we're getting into the classroom we're helping in the in the coaching Realm according what they've already been trying to do and help them get get get even stronger and better at that the third area really doing more of what we've been doing and this is professional development around on core standards in this is kind of like a lot of dis money is around part two of the core money they gave us and Soto right now we have an immediate need been doing a lot now no allotted language arts indicate level and so there's no next for needing to tackle secondary science and so we have an immediate need to work with and a plan and design ready to go if you approve of the funding and an as well as that not this year but we do need a roll out of his limitations of the Next Generation science standards in elementary school and we do have social studies new framework coming Allen and English language arts adoption support coming within the next couple of years Eminem I leave is coaching and mentoring support for Effective teaching and learning so how do we improve instruction and and this is really continuation of the work we're doing in our sights of contempt a little bit tonight about it to Cicero I was so pleased and talking to both Scotland how and Chris Tue at at love Iona and so pleased with their leadership of what they're doing and take role as a coach at their site it's go if it's is exceeding my expectations that I think the not for the first time but it fruition yesterday and having a conversation with them that really good the training that they've received over the last couple of years to Cubs in and through our RC partnership has been that they're very confident effective people that teachers are reaching out to it so that you know that a little anecdotal but where okay. Went to Sunday to be able to be able to continue that program and expand it I'm so fat on our initial plans we have said for the third year which is is Christianity so right now but they would be on the classroom to support for a year but then that funding that we've kind of put into the El Cap with me then for Morganton El Marino Spanish Immersion next year so when this this funding may be able to keep Christian the two sides supporting when how that becomes even stronger better and more sustainable yet expand that at Farragut and it El Reno Spanish language reason not at all recline and Japanese immersion just for people who may be watching is that they're just in your one of their cooks and implementation so they will be getting full support cousin at the art of teaching next year already as well and and also possible expansion of our English language arts intervention support currently. one person is all Andhra she's trained I think nine of the last 11 days on 7th and so when she's training all day then that coaching support Shawty want to get into the into that classroom she's so in demand that that she's she's added more and more training days and so we're looking into the how do you grow other leaders in some strategic kind of waiting to provide provide some additional coaching support for the teachers there there which is the which of the nice thing so those are the four areas that we are required to spend any of our funding so what we will be asking you to consider for approval tonight if if a is having a general be similar to what we did with common core funding call Josiah divided the money into you see the $4 around to the four areas that I spoke to with the smaller. Or not around the corner standard support because there is a huge commitment already within our elk app that supports topknot work and that content we also received money what did you call him dr. Mike yes doctor yes my doctor yes has no part of the additional monies we received in funding above the the local control funding formula last year one time mandated cost money is the educational services sign I think a quarter of a million dollars that was satisfied for that so that that one air is a little lower because we we really have taken a lot of that that funding are consideration and then at the end is that coaching support that we need that we really do think is is critical to the sustainability of the any questions just one home when you were going over this lucky about the special ed support it sounded like there were some things where is clearly something we think is a good idea and it's a question as to the categorical funding covers in I want to make sure that we're not letting putting the cart before the horse the categorical fun doesn't cover it but we think it's worth doing then we should be paid for it ourselves out of the general fund to make sure it gets done to show absolutely allows for it this absolutely reduction it requires authorization because credentialing body for the State of California so cruelly we are not licensed conduction hunting for special education what we're looking into as hell we can rewrite our our contract with the state so that were allowing include of special education these mind allow us to get approved then these monies allow us I think we're carbless we could lick it look into other cities around hoping the financial part of getting having them get their credential but still planning on that support even if it wouldn't be if that thanks thank you Doctor play may I get a motion to what is 13.1 think of what you know where can I do an early one for Ready Set may I get a motion to approve 13.1 the educator Effectiveness blog brand spending all those in favor motion carries 13.2 may I have a motion who's the second reading churches close 14.2 second reading and approval of new board policy and if it is graded regulation it's the one from Cracker Barrel 61732 struction education of children of military families may I get emotional is there any discussion all those in favor K we are Pawns 14.1 can get a motion to reject this claim cell phone second it was there any discussion all those in favor motion carriage 14.15 point one cruel is recommended for the memorandum of understanding between Ace and CC us regarding the reclassification of positions within the instructional assistant found I have a motion some of second is there any discussion yeah thanks for all the hard work yes thank you girl I'm freaking explaining us about it oppose motion carries okay I'm at 15.2 second reading and approval of her vitamin plane regulation 4119 Point 11 sexual harassment and emotional there any discussions call Dustin Taylor post Ocean Terrace Ford stock valuation is falling to me if we study the agenda part of the meeting and clarify questions in advance I think that we participate in the meeting with no one dominating what we are all we listen to Tennessee spring spoke of lading conversation yesterday we get if we treat each other with respect and courtesy yes did we continue to an atmosphere of trust and openness certainly dad did we focus on governance rather than operations during presentations and discussions we do Sidetrack well some people would say we had a few sidetracks the same things that they were all in good humor and we're happy we did it was their information provided in a manner that made him usually understandable yes or administrative group is phenomenal and yes the agenda was well-planned focus on stores with that can I get a motion to adjourn please don't we have going on the meeting were supposed to announce publicly that it is going to be hell in December, we already done your meeting have you already told we're skipping with meeting may I have a motion to enter Shirley Shirley I'm serious if that's where you can hook up Nickelodeon everybody can I get a motion to approve better. all those in favor of something I shouldn't care
