so good to see a packed house we know we have lots and lots and lots of student recognitions tonight we're really looking forward to those thank you to all the students and families for being present so we're going to call our regularly scheduled board meeting Open Session to order for Tuesday December 10th at 601 p.m. and the first order of business is to announce any I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry that is not true we have all board members present and our first order of business is to do our flag salute please rise please please rise for the legs Allegiance put your right hand over your heart ready begin I pledge to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic which it stands 1 nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all okay thank you everyone that that was a good Community lift that we did together so moving to our next item we're going to do our land acknowledgement at this time and I'm going to invite board member Amazon to lead us in that as we begin our board meeting we acknowledge that we are on the traditional territory and home hands of the kiche and Gabrielino tongva people who have lived on and cultivated this land for thousands of years we extend our deepest gratitude to the grabolo tongba and Kish people for their stewardship of this land and for their ongoing contributions to our community according to the California Indian culture and sovereignty Center toolkit a land acknowledgement should be the beginning of a broader journey to 1 learn about oppression and the history of colonization the diverse cultures of California's indigenous peoples and the land on which we live 2 build relationships with Native communities in SE seek ways to collaborate 3 by supporting indigenous-led initiatives and promoting Justice and finally to ask questions to ensure that our efforts truly support and respect indigenous voices this land acknowledgement is an opportunity to not only acknowledge the land with words but to also activate our district to build meaningful Partnerships with Native communities the board looks forward to learning how we are making our land acknowledgement More Than Just Words thank you very much board member Isola our next item of business is Public Announcement of action taken actions taken by the board in closed session for item 2.4 action will be taken on this item later in the agenda under our Educational Services action item number 13.5 we will now move to adopting our agenda and before I entertain a motion to adopt the agenda I want to provide an update to our community regarding the posting of our agenda a technical glitch prevented access to the online agenda even though it appeared to be posted once the issue was brought to the district's attention it was promptly corrected and the agenda was accessible by Saturday evening while this was unfortunate the agenda was otherwise properly distributed and posted in compliance with the requirements of the brown Act the brown act requires substantial compliance with its provisions and we and our legal team are confident that this standard was met in this situation we regret any inconvenience caused by the temporary online issue and will take steps to minimize the likelihood of similar occurrences in the future so at this time I'll entertain a motion to adopt the agenda I move to adopt the agenda a second okay any discussion all those in favor say I I I I hi fantastic so now we get to move to the section that we are all here for which is to recognize and appreciate our students and we will begin with item 6.1 our rising star awards thank you madam president esteem members of the board board tonight it is my pleasure to introduce our December rising star awards our first award is from Lynwood eHow Elementary these awards are awarded to students who embody the PBIS initiative and behaviors so I would like to there's the podium I'll go get them um I'd like to introduce Jack Gerson come on forward Jack demonstrates Dragon Pride every day through his perseverance and commitment to staying focused and challenging Ta on challenging tasks he communicates respectfully with staff when he needs help or a break showing growth and self-awareness this year Jack's progress has been remarkable as he continues to show a strong desire to be an active and positive member of his class Community we're so proud of his growth and dedication congratulations Jack okay next we have Amelia Emmy Berlin Emmy come on down Emy is responsible hardworking and always eager to take on challenges in her school work she is kind to both adults and peers creating a positive and welcoming environment classroom environment Emmy demonstrates excellence Behavior by listening attentively and actively participating in group discussions her positive attitude and dedication make her a valuable member of the class congratulations Emmy our next rising star is from Lab Ione Elementary School come on up Pictoria Victoria cabal what comes to mind when it think of a rising star is it someone who is kind responsible and always tries to do the best Victoria capital is all of those things and more she truly embodies the values of our district holds their Victoria is always need to show kindness by helping her peers both in the classroom and on the yard she goes out of her way to support staff when needed and always uses her manners Victoria is responsible follows class and pass expectations with no hesitation and consistently demonstrate determination as she preserves through challenges her positive attitude and dedication light up our classroom and we are so proud of everything she does congratulations Victoria I'm honored to introduce everybody to our next Rising Star Julius Cortez Julius shows respect to everyone and values the unique differences that make our school special he works hard stays determined and always puts forth his best effort in everything he does Julius is a kind friend who collaborates well with others and sets a positive example for his classmates his empathy and thoughtful actions helped create a caring inclusive and safe environment for everyone around him we are so proud of the positive impact Julius continues to make congratulations next from El Marino it is my pleasure to introduce Naomi borisenko Naomi is an exemplary student and a positive role model who consistently puts forth great effort and strives for excellence in everything she does she is always respectful kind and ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need El Marino is truly lucky and proud to have a student like Naomi who makes a positive impact on her classmates and Community every day congratulations Naomi next from Ellyn Elementary we have Grayson Matthews come on down Grayson Grayson Matthews consistently demonstrates excellent citizenship by setting a positive example for his peers his helpful nature shines as he eagerly assists both adults and classmates creating a supportive and caring learning environment gray Grayson shows unwavering respect towards everyone fostering a strong sense of community and Trust among his peers Elven Khan is very proud to have such a rising start in their school Community congratulations Grayson our next rising star is Jana at know she is from El Ron again come on up is an amazing scholar who comes to school every day ready to learn and with a positive attitude as a fifth grade student council representative for room 10 she takes her role very serious seriously creating effective presentations to share the student council's work with her classmates Jana is an incredibly responsible hardworking and dedicated student who consistently goes above and beyond with her classwork projects and impressive writing she is kind respectful and a positive role model to her classmates it is truly an honor to nominate Jana for the Rising Star Award congratulations Jana our next rising star is from Farragut Elementary Rowan bean I come on down Rowan is a model student who consistently demonstrates behaviors that promote learning collaboration empathy and respect Rowan eagerly participates in classroom discussions helping to elevate the classes understanding and encourage meaningful learning it is truly an honor to work and learn wrong side row and every day congratulations I'd like to welcome for Maya Harris Amaya is a shining star in the Farragut peacekeepers program she always arrives at meetings on time eager to learn and share ideas Amaya is committed to finding new ways to resolve conflicts and Foster peace and Farragut she maintains a calm and kind tone while supporting younger students on the yard setting a wonderful example for empathy and Leadership congratulations Amaya yay okay next we have from Culver City Middle School Alberto Alvarado Beto is a true leader who embodies Integrity in everything he does he is always looking for ways to improve Culver City Middle School and makes it a better place for everyone that's never misses an opportunity to greet his friends and staff with kindness and enthusiasm he is smart congrat smart hardworking and full of Pride he sets a positive example for his peers and making a lasting impact on his school Community congratulations congratulations Alberto our next Middle School racing star is Kyle Jones come on up K Kyle simplifies responsibility maturity and kindness in everything he does he's supportive of his classmates and Views challenges as opportunities to grow and Foster connection energetic well spoken and positive Kyle is a true example of of 2025 and can't wait to see what the future holds congratulations Noah next rising star is from our eye Academy so welcome down Noah Garland Noah's attendance is outstanding he is always president ready for each class meeting his interactions with his teachers are consistently polite and respectful reflecting his kind and thoughtful nature outside of school Noah has a passion for drawing nature and science excuse me he has a special interest in the study of insects and reptiles it is truly a pleasure to work with Noah Garland and his very supportive family and we are grateful for the positive impact they bring to our school Community congrats Noah next from I Academy I would like to welcome Maya peld come on down Maya Maya is a highly motivated and gifted student who is who's consistent hard work and attention to detail have led to exceptional academic achievements her critical thinking and problem-solving skills are truly impressive and she approaches every challenge with determination and focus we have no doubt that Maya will continue to excel in all of her future endeavors and make a lasting impact congratulations Maya students if you will remain standing we're going to take some photos in your parents are going to come forward for some Paparazzi time announced so much fun thank you so much it's such a pleasure to celebrate All of You as folks trickle out who are planning to trickle out we're moving to item 6.2 which is a celebration of CCMS girls cross country champion oh sorry I didn't see you came over hi come hi your students accomplish okay all righty thank you everybody um for having us here it's really an honor to be here um this is my second year as the uh cross country coach for Culver City Middle School uh and out of both years uh we have won 2 championships 1 for girl uh boys cross country last year and then this year for our girls team um you know it's kind of funny we at the beginning of the year when we all gathered uh you know I I told the group of girls that I had and I said hey you know what it's your turn now um you know and I didn't want to put a lot of pressure on him but I was like hey it's our turn now no pressure um but they just they were so tenacious throughout the whole season uh their effort was amazing um my whole team's effort has just been great I have great athletes just great kids great families uh who support us also by you know bringing snacks water and all sorts of stuff to our events um and I just I couldn't do it without all the help from my my my athletes and my parents and it's just been a great year um so I'm I have uh some awards to give out for my cross country team we won our uh fee uh League Championship via um a foundation for enter Scholastic youth Athletics um and so that's our league and we compete against you know dozens of schools from across uh the LA area um so I know some of my girls are watching um so I know and then they're so multisport athletes as well so um so Eloise chlic um this is for you these 3 uh actually have 3 Sisters on this team they they did a great job all of them just really did a great job uh zolak Alexandra Boston Kaa Irvin Cora Miller numi klich is Kyra dose I know uh Hannah Rodriguez I'm very proud of you uh Alexandra Von Silva and oh I got a couple more uh Lucy Brooks sweet awesome how are you oh I'm so glad you're here all right and then last but not least we have uh Caitlyn castigar I'm I'm very proud of you girls um just did an excellent job just so tenacious and you ought to always just a positive attitude and I'm just I'm so proud of you guys it's just been a wonderful year thank you at this time we will move to our next item also celebrating CCMS girls flag football champ thank you madam president as as the description reads this team went 9 0 undefeated to win their first ever flag football we would like to bring forward head coach Justice Vincent and assistant coach DJ Vincent you're not coming okay um well thank you everybody for coming and for this um recognition I'm very proud of the girls they worked extremely hard throughout the whole season day in and day out running all the time for practices run their legs off and also being that it's the first year ever and they just gave it their all and overall I'm very happy happy that I got to coach them and give them this experience of an undefeated season and also honorable mention to coach DJ offensive coordinator so first up we have 1 of our rushers uh Alejandra Flores Shake next we have the fastest running back in the league a sorrow mat then we have have team leadership 1 of our rushers and quarterbacks Bella Aries okay I'm sorry um she's not here today but also another defensive player cornerback Khloe craft 1 of our cornerbacks Gianna lurella if I butchered your last name bro um another Russian she's not here Jasmine Brown um this player is also not here but she got injured she like broke her ankle or something mid-season but Casey miles and our our Pat Mahon on the team best quarterback ever Kennedy nailer 1 of the best wide receivers you will ever see play the game Leah Rodriguez this player is our whole team right here we look up to her Leo sereni another 1 of our running backs that will always take your ankles Luciana our top-notch Snapper Luna Milas baking it another 1 of our snappers with 1 of the best positive energies ever Mia calls the best rusher ever to live and goofiest player on the team Nyla Edwards this 1 our Christian McCaffrey on the team go Niners Pearl Bethany she's not here Taylor Howard and Destiny Atkins stop National okay so we can move slowly to gather for the next 1 while we let oh folks are saying okay great our next item is 6.4 Culver City High School boys water polo champ Ian this team ended the season 245 and were named Pioneer League champions it's my pleasure to bring forward assistant coach Miranda sorry to put you on the spot thank you so much well uh first of all I'd like to congratulate the boys this is the first time that we've won league in about 22 years and then they went on to play division 3 at CIF and they did very well for the limited pool space that we had uh first up Nathan Antonio Evan Dario Warren Davenport writers Direct Roman Martinez and I don't think he's here today but shout out to Valenti go um another person that's missing Nikko Gonzalez Felix Hummel Jordan gang Sawyer Kelly of course Noah cusano Ian McMillan Sheamus McMullen part of Mendoza Edgar Mendoza Joshua Nadel another missing player Mattel oliviera and another missing 1 Benjamin Harris read Jerry Santiago Justin Ria and last but not least Casey Zulo can you and you get them on can we squeeze in a little closer guys a Little Closer can I have the front row Neil for me standing back row stay standing there we go my daughter oh okay the rising star okay we are at our last student recognition of the evening just before I announce that item I want to let folks know that you can validate your parking near the bathroom in that Lobby in just in case folks are looking for that little machine sometimes this little machine inside is broken so the 1 out near the restroom is likely to work okay and so we can um take a we can go a little bit more slowly together on this 1 as folks are I see folks are trickling out um 6.5 is the Culver City High School girls tennis CIF finalists congratulations to all student athletes and head coach Nick mersenne if you can come forward so we can recognize this group that for the third time in history has gone to finals and back-to-back years congratulations thank you so much I'd just like to say we're super proud of this team uh it's the second time we went back to back right first time in the history of girls towns we've gone back to back only the third time in through the high school that a team has gone back to back girls basketball in the 60s girls volleyball 2017 2018 and now girls tennis so so uh congratulations Robin Amman and Robin Brianna Betts couldn't join us tonight um Valentina gagan Kendall Hong sorry Autumn Jesse Zion Jones Naomi Kim Valentina Martinez Kelly Naomi mulaku new or nausea aldana thali and Maya who cannot be here tonight as well and then also I'd like to have coach Phil Rothenberg join us who's finishing his 26th year of coaching I'll take a look here go thank you okay thank you all of our athletes for coming board members we do have 1 rising star that just arrived so we like to make sure we recognize them and I'm pleased to introduce from labaya Victoria Cabral Victoria come on down celebrate our students which is of of course why we're all here so we're moving on to uh section 7 the first this is Board of Education commendations and recognitions in the first section in section 7 is 7.1 when we hear from the public on this item all right we had talked about 20 minutes correct board visit so we uh try to keep our comments to 20 minutes at each opportunity and we will do the same here at the moment we have at the moment we have 3 in person if there's anybody else who would like to make comments on 717273 it's all kind of together uh please bring up your card and then we'll do uh on line uh comments after that okay give me just a second to write these down and then I'll start calling Folks up um but in-person folks it's going to be Jeff Schwarz Leia Pressman and Alex fish give me just a moment to note that down actually uh Jeff if you'd like to come up and get started I can type 2 of these download how many do you have online I have at the moment 4 online and we have 3 in person thank you board members um outgoing board members Kelly Kent and Paula are responsible for 1 of the greatest steps towards equality in the school district's history as Culver City's population has aged School enrollment has declined the district has several fewer elementary schools and when I was a student in the 70s because State funding is based on enrollment to district has admitted an increasing number of students on permit from outside Culver City until recently these students were held to higher academic attendance and disciplinary standards than those from within the city it is unfair for students who sit next to each other during the same work and activities to be judged differently based on where their parents live thank you for eliminating this double standard as of the last census Culver City was 47% white while LA County was 26% Culver City's median household income was 98,000 more than doubled the countywide 46,000 permit students are more ethnically and economically diverse and those in District them more harshly expressed implicit bias which some community members have made explicit in their public comments getting rid of that is real progress thank you all for your contributions thousands of students and their families will have better school experiences because you thank you and Leo you'll be next but give me just a moment to find my timer um Rebecca am I sharing sorry it's been a couple weeks since we've done this I'm having trouble finding I've got my camera on but I'm not seeing myself okay do I need to share I don't think I need to share for the timer to come out is Loretta you are the expert on this we can see your personal screen right now okay oh there we go found it give me just a second okay and we said 3 minutes okay just press 1 whenever you're ready okay um good evening school board members um wanted to uh say today uh talk about Kelly and Paula in their time on the school board outgoing members Kelly Kent and Paula Emma have served with Grace and economy in the face of constant ongoing smears and salts threats from people who pursue a scorched Earth approach to Civic life I commend them for keeping their focus squarely on the well-being of our district and our student students in the face of these assaults they've worked tirelessly to make sure teachers are adequately paid the school is adequately resourced Pro promote equity in our schools to promote restorative justice and to achieve Green New Deal in our schools they LED an ending policies that meant permit students were held to different behavioral and academic standards that my husband spoke of tonight in my remarks I want to particularly applaud them each for their dedications to issues around child Mental Health no surprise here is as As I Am a Child and Adolescent psychologist Amazon's background in training is in public health during Co she was moved to action by the tragic student suicides she also noticed a precipitous drop in child abuse reports which she knew meant children were trapped in abusive situations that could have detected by teachers and staff if they had been in school in person her awareness of the complex demands and dynamics of family life motivated her to reopen our schools as soon as it was safe concern for your child's safety and mental health similarly guided Dr Kelly Kent during her service on the board for example she led the district towards requiring parents be notified about safe gun storage standards she relied on social science research rather than Macho mythology a gun in the home is far more likely to be fired accidentally in domestic violence or in suicide than in defense against an intruder I am so proud to know both of these smart and courageous women and grateful to have had them on our school board thank you thank you man okay and I apologize there was a second staff of in-person comments and that's Kareem Megan and William so uh Alex your next thank you thank you very much uh good evening School Board um I'm going to keep it a little more personal I think you know there's a million things I could say on policy I'm a very satisfied ccusd parent um and I know you know having small district with an affluent um parent base is a challenge we demand more and we don't have more we don't have the resources of a large district and so the 1 policy note I will say is that I appreciate um the balance that you show between labor between parents between student needs always putting students first and it shows it shows in my my own kids uh education emotional well-being and I thank you for that but um more on a personal note um this has been a very rough 4 years for school districts Nationwide um what we experienced here in Culver City I think was really an echo of that it was the same tendency that we saw emerging in much darker fashion in some school districts and um the fact that it wasn't as bad here as it was in some places doesn't make it feel any better when people are leaving butchered animals in your yard or calling you names in public or saying things in front of our kids um that they would never hopefully say in their own homes around their own kids um you've handled that as uh Leah said with Grace and um equan and I appreciate it um I've been up there and I think on lastly that you had it a million times harder you sit up there without a City attorney you sit up there without the resources you sit up there without a metal detector in front um and without security um here with people who are perhaps angrier than what we saw at city council so thank you thank you thank you thank you you did amazing work no matter what anybody says the district is financially solvent which it didn't have to be you took risks and you made it happen and um thank you for your service thank you to um ha and thank you to will thank you to your kids thank you to your parents thank you again thank you very much uh Kareem good evening um thank you thank you Dr Kelly K and M Paola for your unwavering dedication to the Culver City District School District since 2015 Kelly your leadership has been instrumental in cover City uh in the ccusd to receive the national green ribbon in 2017 recognizing the district commitment to sustainability you have been the first bilingual Latina board member you have championed social justice equity earning the district the recognition by laksa sorry about that both of you you combined effort have Pro inspired and uplifted the cover City Community I'm so grateful for your time I'm so grateful for your generosity I'm so grateful for your service thank you so much thank you again and then William you'll go after Meghan thank you so much um board trustee Pavlo mazola I I'm just here to share my heartfelt thanks uh as a parent of 2 uh CC USD grads uh a Community member and it's a 1 lucky enough to be your friend um your leadership over the past 4 years in a time of just extraordinary challenges you have brought your extraordinary leadership to the table every single day despite the hate despite the organized opposition you always Center students you do so with fortitude uh and you have my immense gratitude uh 1 of my 1 of my kids uh graduated in 2020 when you were taking office uh the other in 2022 and I know the what you've done to steer uh this district and represent every single student without leaving any student behind is just extraordinary so thank you for your integrity and your courage Dr Kelly Kent um you know in in the environmental work that I do we talk about leading with our head our heart and our hand and what you do you know obviously with your head you bring the Neuroscience you bring the data you bring your extraordinary professional experience to the work you do for the district with your heart your compassion your empathy and your courage know no bounds and your hands you're always rolling up your sleeves to do the work to step up to organize the meeting to do the research to show up in every way for every student every day um I had the pleasure of collaborating with you when I was mayor and on the city council so just had the immense uh you know it was wonderful to be able to work with you to build the Partnerships between the city and the school district and make sure that any public dollar is used wisely right that we use these very facilities these very council chambers um for the meetings and it just goes on and on you your work on Safe Streets collaborating with walk-in rollers to make sure our students can get to school safely uh and with health uh exploring solutions to create much needed housing this is something that I hope will continue after your service incredibly important work um and um obviously the the environmental uh work that you have done has just been extraordinary and fostering the leadership of the students write the green New Deal coming from this school district is something that in my position on the national Sierra Club board I brag about all the time because it really is a model in the model is uplifting uh student voices thank you so much love the outro music yeah appreciate it I don't know how to make it stop you very much and William Herrera good evening and uh thank you board president Dr Kent and School Board Trustees for the opportunity to provide public comment today uh I have 2 messages 1 is for my wife Paula and the second is um to our community tala even after 25 years of marriage you you still continue to amaze me um like most generation achievers sorry doing something for the very first time you jumped into this political public education position with little prior experience there was a steep learning curve but like in most of your first time Endeavors you had no fear you jumped right in you put your head down and you did the work it was amazing to watch you put in all those endless hours course and like usual strive for excellence I've been in public education for 25 years but some of the obstacles and challenges that you and the board and your bored face were truly unprecedented starting with the pandemic it was beautiful to see how passionate you were about this work I love seeing how clearly you had found a calling this wasn't just work it was personal most of us understand that public education work um is um most public education work from school staff to teachers to school administrators to school board members we know that that public education work is usually underappreciated and undervalued need work most of the feedback comes when things are not going well um and very little acknowledgement and appreciation is given when things are working and I know that many board members especially Dr Kent and Paula um um endured many nights of angry constituents sharing their opinions and I know that these instances took a personal toll despite the negative feedback though this evening's resolution which I believe are going to be read later right sorry I'm a little ahead of that um show that despite that personal toll you got the work done thank you for your dedication to serving the neediest and usually the least represented students in ccusd I hope that you are as proud as I am of your 4 years of service your accomplishments speak for themselves and to the community please please please continue to encourage candidates who support social justice Justice to run for School Board office please continue supporting candidates who are prepared to represent students who have traditionally not been represented public education must serve our low-income our second language Learners our low performing students these traditionally disenfranchised students performance is the true measure of how great our school district is and once they're elected in office please continue to support them on the dis because we know there is still a lot of work to be done for our district to reach its full potential thank you Mr ra if you can wrap it up thank you apologize for that and then I just saw Mr puzza who was on the list for online comments uh come in do you want to say something right now while we wrap up the in-person comments good evening uh my name is Freddy puza I serve on city council but tonight I'll be speaking on my own behalf um thank you uh Paula uh for your Force years of service on school board you've been a strong voice heart an advocate for all students I first got to know you when you were in the Parks Recreation and Community Services Commission you are a fierce advocate for the community and that has not changed it's been incredible to watch you grow and mature in the work needless to there were times when it got tense and rough you've taken a few punches but you've always graciously picked yourself up and no matter the obstacle every time you've always told me I'm doing it for the students it's for the Youth thank you for being an advocate for the Latino Community for English learners for lgbtq plus Youth and for every student because every young person in our schools deserves the best quality education possible and that is your mission thanks again for your service I wish you the best in in your next Endeavors and hope you'll stay connected in the work which I know you will do Dr Kelly K thank you for 9 years of service on the school board I first got to know you through your advocacy and housing work and was inspired by your passion to collaborate and be solution-oriented your natural teacher constantly teaching teaching and mentoring people and trying to ensure the work continues Beyond when you're gone because what good is the work if it ends when the person leaves no doubt we sign up to serve as elected officials and there are pros and cons to serving and no doubt you've endured a lot of negativity but you're a person of conviction you have strong beliefs and you don't back down and the voters have voted for you and your leadership twice you are cerebral person who operates from an ethical perspective effective at the end of the day you've fought for students to have the best educational experience as you saw it and to create Equitable systems for future generations to experience that as well best of luck to you and whatever is in the next chapter of your life I hope you continue to Advocate and work for the betterment of our school systems and Beyond thank you now we'll now shift to the online comments and the first person is Marisella and then we have Kathy Graco Angela gray and t uh Miss AMA whenever you're ready you've got 3 minutes good evening member so the board staff and community today I come before you with a mix of gratitude and bitterness and a Bitter Sweet Emotion as we bid farewell to board member Paula my sister Paula your years of selfless service to the Culver City Unified School District have been nothing short of inspiring serving as an elected board member is a role that comes with no Financial reward only the satisfaction of knowing that you've made a difference your unwavering dedication to providing the children with a path to success says has been rooted in your deep passion for education and equity through countless hours of meetings decisions and advocacy you've shown everyone what it means to truly care for the Next Generation your humble beginnings give you a unique glance to which you view the systemic injustices within education the 4 of us we certainly face it you have not only identified those inequities but fought tirelessly to address them ensuring that every child regardless of their background have the opportunity to thrive even though you're elected term has come to an end I know your mission is far from over it is not easy to be a public official in such a polarized time and you stepped up the courage and heart took all the punches and still you rise never forget that you were voted to do great things and you did you are leaving with your head high I am inspired by your bravery and come commend you for your unwavering commitment to the costs well you may be taking a well-deserved break to recharge I am confident that this is only a chapter in your story Paula your destiny is 1 of greatness and I know this community has not seen the last of you thank you for everything that you have done you are my true hero thank you uh Cathy hello Dr Kent and Miss AMA um I wanted to come by tonight and thank you for your service the Culver City School Board over the past several years I uh have been many of these meetings and I am passionate about what I do and I know we did not always agree and sometimes we did but the 1 thing I do know is that you both LED with passion as well and I wish you both the best of luck in your next endeavors thank you again thank you Miss graso and T so um I'm a parent at a I wanted to thank uh Dr Kelly catch and Salah for their service um I felt like I was new to the district and I didn't understand a lot of processes and Kelly you were able to explain things very simply um directly um and that was very helpful um I I would have I remember attending an event I'm sorry reproductive Health uh I was looking for you I hadn't necessarily met you but what I would set out is that um you actually accentuated the the voices of the high school students uh that I just spent the afternoon sitting in the Grass at vets Park and I and I I noticed that's what you could continued to do is to um uh allow the yaw young students the young activists to to show their leadership um and and I still see that today with you so I appreciate um advocacy and um Safeguard Storage and um speaking up for um Palestinian student um and Miss Paula um is I enjoyed listening to the comments of your family and friends uh so amazed at how much you've accomplished um when you come to La bayona campus uh you're on mission to meet parents here what they had to say a support our English Learners and um and I didn't get time to speak too much but because you were attending our reading morning clubs and 100% dedicated to the students um listening to them read empowering them um making them feel comfortable they would look for you each Wednesday um when we have a volunteer Reading Club um in the library and I I appreciate see that that side of you and I also saw how you you do lead with your heart and um I wish you um the best uh moving forward and I hope to keep in touch and um you've left uh quite a history for us to as a follow thank you thank you very much and that concludes comments on this item perfect that was just at our 20 minute Mark which was really well done thank you to the public for time in yourselves so accurately um okay so just so folks know a little bit more about what's happening now we have some um you know recognitions that we're going to do for the outgoing board members if the uh if colleagues on the as at that time would like to make some remarks for this section we'll have a little time for that then we have a more general public recognition section coming still that's Section 8 it'll be you know 81 through 7 and at 87 there's a time where the board gives board remarks and that's when the board will have an opportunity to um or at least Missoula and myself will have an opportunity to respond and thank you in turn if you're able to stick around for that section just so you know when to expect and what to expect so moving forward we're going to we're going to go to item 7.2 at this time outgoing board member Pella Ama and thank you to the public who is attending today I have the honor of presenting a series of proclamations from um both our uh local and state and uh National representatives in recognition of the outstanding service of Miss Amazon and Dr Kent and I'm going to introduce first if I could Mr Carlos pinilla who is the senior field rep with our California state Senator lolis m City California hereby congratulates Paula Isola and commends her for her years of service dedicated to improving the types of Clover City students advocating for the Improvement of safe and nurturing District personally recognizes and thanks Paula amazona whereas trustee Emma has served as a dedicated member of the Culver City Unified School District since December 15th 2020 advocating for the interests students staff in the community and whereas as a first generation Culver City Resident mazola was elected by a diverse Community movement as the first bilingual Latina Hispanic woman elected to CC USD as well as the first bicultural Mexican American immigrants raised in or upon Mexico who immigrated to the United States as a teenager and has dedicated her public health career to improving the health of underserved communities and whereas amazona served on the ccusd local control accountability diversity equity and inclusion District Community Arts team and the Culver needs committees and as Alias on to committees with the Los Angeles County School Board Association the California Latino School Board Association the National Association of lat elected and appointed officials education fund and the edenic lab with Georgetown University and whereas trustee mza prioritized reopening our schools safely during the co 19 pandemic by ensuring the reasonable allocation I'm sorry respond responsible allocation of Co funds to enhance air filtration systems established con convenient and free vaccine clinics distribute complimentary face masks provide access to free at home testing kits and offer offer essential Health Resources to protect students and staff from the virus additionally she advocated for Mental Health Resources such as hiring counselors and assistant principals for elementary schools and adding teachers on special assignment as interventionists for learning recovery and whereas trustee Amazon LED modernization efforts within the district by spearheading the measure e Bond feasibility committee and with the support of the Culver City Community successfully passed a 358 uh 358 million Bond designed to address urgent facility needs across all schools in the district and to ensure safe and welcoming learning environments for every student and whereas trustee mazola has prioritized housing stabilization and income-generating initiatives by cleaning by sharing a committee to explore strategies for staff retention and recruitment whereas uh which underscored the necessity of optimizing district-owned real estate to create income gendering opportunities this initiative aims to stabilize the USD budget after the significant reduction in federal Co funding by securing salary increases managing benefit costs and providing incentives to attract and retain heart-to-heart staff and whereas trustee amazona has made substantial contributions to the district's governance including initiating the reform to update over 700 policies and align them with the California school boards Association standards establishing a comprehensive governance caller and and creating a governance handbook that promote transparency transparency and accountability and whereas trustee amisola has committed herself to Equitable education by championing initiatives that prepare every student for college and fulfilling careers advocating for the inclusion of an English learner focused goal and the lcap and leading efforts to adopt culturally relevant curricula such as AP ethnic studies and AP African-American studies and whereas trustee Mazza has been a proactive advocate for wellness initiatives by establishing ccusd care which provides coordinated mental health support and services and promotes student engagement as well as leading the passage of mental health awareness and curriculum resolutions and where our stress the Mazza has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability by supporting the green New Deal advocating for Net Zero construction practices and championing the hiring of a sustainability coordinator to guide the district's environmental initiatives and whereas trustee mazola has demonstrated exemplary leadership throughout her 4-year term by host listening sessions that provided a safe environment for parents teachers staff and students to express their opinions and build consensus these sessions addressed urgent matters including the safe reopening of schools during the co 19 pandemic student safety protocols responsible cell phone usage to support children's mental health and strategies for optimizing ccusd real estate to invest in the Recruitment and Retention of hard to hire staff through salary increases and improved benefits and whereas trustee em loola was invited to present at the Los Angeles County Office of education's annual women's leadership and empowerment conference in both 2023 and 24 where she led workshops focused on the local control and accountability accountability plan for English Learners and shared 3 free tools for empowering women leaders and location and whereas trustee Amazon was honored with the leader of the Year award for the 2324 by laksa recognizing her demonstrated initiative and advocating for the most vulnerable students including English Learners this award recognizes her leading efforts to write and pass the multilingual resolution and her commitment to active participation within laksa including serving on the nomination committee for the executive team and whereas trustee has been a steadfast advocate for the latinx community within Co in the unified by ensuring Spanish interpretation is available at board meetings incorporating bilingual preferred language as standard and CCSD job descriptions and bringing the parent Institute for Quality education known as PK to empower latinx parents as effective advocates for the children she also led the district's inaugural latinx Heritage celebration and collaborated with ccef on scholarships to support the educational aspirations of latinx students now therefore be it resolved on this 10th day of December that the Culver City Unified School District School Board the city of Clover City hereby congratulates Dr Kelly Kent and commends her for all her years of service dedicated to improving the lives of Culver City students her work to improve a multitude of CCSD facilities and programs and her unwavering leadership and commitment to Excellence what can I help you like we're getting close and Dr Kent here is a proclamation on behalf of the district and the school board this is Culver City Unified School District Pi recognized and thanks Dr Kelly Kent whereas to Kelly Kent has spent 9 years serving on the CCSD Board of Education and whereas in 2016 as a new board member Kelly wrote an application on behalf of CC usd's whole child whole Community initiative to the Cal California School Board Association and the district was awarded the Golden Bell in recognition of their work building a fleet of Community Partners including Culver needs Health Providers like Sandy seagull youth Health Center and Venice Family Clinic mentoring programs alternative education institutions like Culver Park and I Academy corporate and nonprofit enrichment and arts providers community service organizations and More in order to embody the belief that every child is capable of success without exception and where is Dr Kent has consistently advocated for and supported the district's work towards sustainability and led the board in passing both the environmental purchasing and green schools operations policies and fought for the sustainability coordinator position that year-over-year save tens of thousands of dollars from the general fund and in 27 the school district was awarded the green achiever award by the California Department of Education and the Green Ribbon Schools award by the US Department of Education and recognition of reduced using environmental impact and costs improving the health and wellness of schools and students and staff and providing effective Environmental Education and whereas Kelly Kent service included a a portion of measure CC funds the facilities ballot measure that was overwhelmingly approved by Clover City voters in 2014 and has helped and has helped pay for installing district-wide hpac renovating the state-of-the-art robber Frost Auditorium construction of the science building for great 6 to 12 art and Innovation labs and brand new playgrounds at all 5 elementary schools the refurbished media lab at cchs and library of CCMS lighting and energy uh conservation upgrades upgraded athletic fields new CTE and art spaces including the Sports Therapy Room ceramic dance studios at CCA HHS the new College and Career Center upgrading mares and numerous other critical upgrades necessary to ensure that all CCSD students are College and Career ready and whereas Kelly has played an important role in helping the district to overcome Financial hurdles including by Leading and Shepherd the passage of measure K in 2017 playing aquil critically supportive role in the passage of measure o in 2024 and leading the district in assessing real estate holdings as potential source of Revenue and whereas she spearheaded and supported a wide array of efforts during her time on the board including the formation of an equity task force and the passage of the district's Equity strategic plan in 2020 the initiation the initiation of free bus fare for all cover City Unified students getting to and from school the hiring of a full-time counselors at all elementary schools the successful implementation of college prep for all English courses strengthen engagement and participation of student board members read drafting the passage of the district permit policies such that all ccusd students are treated as a family from the moment they step through our doors until the moment we graduate them partnership with the vending Museum to strategic Arts plans adoptions and the expansion of Music curriculum to all PK to 12 students and whereas Dr Kelly Kent has work has LED work in partnership with the city of Culver City on the My Brother's Keeper initiative committed to improving the educational outcomes of boys and young men of color and participated in sustaining and growing these efforts as the district drafted the black student achievement plan and whereas Dr Kent led the introduction and passage of a resolution in 2019 ensuring that the district's families knowledge and sign a safe firearm storage notice annually and along with fellow board members Kelly Kent championed the passage of the district's recent facilities Bond measure e and whereas Dr Kelly Kent is proud to have led the strengthening of the superintendent evaluation practices over her 9 years providing the groundwork for administrative stability and leaving a robust strategic framework for Future Leaders to build upon and whereas Kelly Kent counts among her proudest accomplishments the adoption of a district commitment to inclusion and the right to presence for all students with disabilities in the district and the board's passage in 2020 of the inclusive practices policy and most recently the district's commitment to inclusion training for all staff and whereas Kelly Ken's contrib to our district will have a lasting and important impact on CCSD students staff and teachers for many years to come as a part of her long-standing commitment to getting all graduates to leave ccusd both College and Career ready and now therefore be it resolved that the board education of the course Culver City Unified School District hereby recognizes and thanks Kelly Kent for her tireless services to the Clover City there's some parents here okay so we'll do 1 more picture and then if if how is a moment for board members to speak it it's a good time for us and then we'll move forward thank you all so much for your patience okay vice president pasador would you like to say something I'm sorry board member Guerrero would you like to say something are we doing both at the same time or do you want to do all 1 and then all the other both okay vegan we don't do this very often so we don't really have practiced procedures for it board member amosa you began your term on the board during the most difficult time during Co and as a parent during that time I will always be grateful to you to Dr Kent and to everyone on the board for your leadership for keeping students and employees safe during the shutdown and getting us back to in-person instruction as soon as possible when it was safe you and I met before I was even on the board when we we were both members of The District's lcap committee where we both had lots of questions about how ccusd supports its English Learners and how eel funds are being spent to this day you and I have worked together to make sure that our eels get what they need and as you transition off the board on to other projects I am committed to continuing that work you and I lobbied in Washington DC for full funding for special education and I know how important meeting the needs of our students with IEPs is to you I appreciate and I've learned from you about the vital importance of programs that support students emotional and mental health needs in particular lgbtqia plus students and students experiencing trauma I'm grateful for the work you've done creating our board governance handbook guide to our board bylaws BPS ARs and putting down and writing our best governance practices some of that got updated again this summer and you've created the framework that we will build on for years to come it will serve as a foundation to help new board members learn their roles more quickly without having to figure it out on for themselves helping them to be more effective more quickly you speak from your experiences as a student and as a mother you can be an out-of-the-box thinker sometimes which has always been very valuable we haven't always agreed on every issue but I believe that our discussions have been richer and our decisions have been better for the explorations of all aspects of an issue we've always been collegial and able to maintain good terms because both of us want what's best for students and I remember joking with you after there was a a certain headline board members argue are you are you mad at me I'm not mad at you know are you mad at me no I'm good it has been an honor serving with you I've learned a lot from you and you've helped me to become a better board member myself Dr Ken within a few weeks of my election to the board you had me around visiting School sites and talking to special education teachers aides and parents it was a whirlwind but it was a fantastic introduction to ccusd our schools the great work that is happening out there and in some of the ways that we need to keep growing you've shared your experiences and wisdom on many occasions and have been a mentor to me as a new board member and I will always appreciate that like board member amosi you are part of the board during coid and you've served even longer and you've seen plenty of good times and plenty of difficult times and cover City in our schools and through it all you've always been a vocal advocate for our students especially those who historically been left out or excluded ccusd will forever be changed for that for the better made into a more welcoming and more inclusive place because of the work you've done you've helped build strong support programs we've clarified our policy on interdistrict permits so that students who join CC USD will never have to feel like second-class citizens you've been an advocate for the Arts equity and Athletics and a Greener ccusd I look forward to continuing to build on the work that you've done on the school board and to hearing from you once in a while as a parent as your own children continue to experience all the great things that ccusd has to offer thank you vice president ez-door thank you so much Madam Sharon um really really beautifully said uh Mr Guerrero um and I think I'm probably going to take maybe a more personal purchase because it really is a a a full circle moment for me in a unique way that I don't know that it has ever been a full circle moment for maybe any person who's ever served on this body uh but I got to meet uh my now colleagues Dr Kenan and Miss Amazon when I was a student in this District I know that that story is it's not new to probably anyone here uh but I got to meet them uh during Co um as we were all collectively organizing I think in individual individual capacities board members though I think you might have been running at the time Dr Kent you're on the board I was a student just trying to get through SATs and just get by and graduate um and and somehow 1 way or the other we kind of all found each other obviously you 2 knew each other and you found each other serving on the board but then um I got to meet them and and an activism class because we realized you know as as 18 year old students active you know activating on school campuses that if we want to get things done we had to take that voice to uh Chambers to to Halls of power to to bodies of power and so uh they always were there for me when I was um needing a a person to lean on needing guidance needing support they were always there for me and and they sent me off I think that they might have thought that that was the last time they were going to see me and then I came back and and and was able to come back and and join them aboard so really just a full circle moment for me um as a student as an activist as like an official um I've gotten to know in these wonderful women over the last 4 and a half maybe 4 years uh maybe 5 years um and and and I can undoubtedly say that um I think I'm a better man I'm a better person I think I'm better elected official because of it uh Dr Kent you have I think given a lot of us guidance from your years of service and how to do this this role in this work during such tumultuous times same with you uh Miss Emma and so uh it doesn't really feel real to me yet that these people will not not be my colleagues but I know that you made this District thank you that is a very special moment and I know you said earlier you weren't really able to say anything I'm going to I'm going to keep my try to keep my comments um oh um first to Dr Kent um I I I first got to know Dr Dr Kent um she was a board member at the time because I only moved here in 2018 and when my students were um were in the district I started working on um safe routes to school um uh committees that was um Citywide and she was the board member uh representing on the safe routes to school committee along with um uh mayor Megan Sally Wells who is in the audience still today and um I I got to know her through there and then um subsequently worked on her um 2020 campaign and um I really attribute her uh to her the um the elevation of student voice and the reason why we have student board members today um that are so supported because I wouldn't be here today unless my daughter preceded me on the board as a student in board member um when during the return to coid and um it was only through uh raised experience on the board did I see that um because being an elected official was never a dream of mine and um I was very uh reluctant uh candidate and uh you know I could and and through that experience with Raley and through the um uh through my experience with uh Dr Kent uh was able to see and be encouraged that anybody can do this um who anybody who wants to be a public servant can serve um and you don't need uh in the right system you wouldn't need all the privilege in the world and you you need a heart and the time and the effort and the energy to learn and be able to grow and I want to do that for um when we're looking at Future candidates future electeds that um that local office can still be something that is attainable for um for folks who are just looking to serve and not just have Deep Pockets um and to um the Zaza um I I think that it's really really something um there isn't a whole lot it's difficult in the first place to be a elected official here in Culver City who is a person of color it is dif even more difficult to also have an intersectional identity to be both a person of color and a woman who is elected official and it and it and it um and to still serve in all of your authenticity and in all of your and with leading with your culture and Heritage at the Forefront it is hard to um to to new justice to all of your um all the facets that make you you and I want to thank you for being my colleague and being able to show me that there is a way and that even though even as someone 1 not even a candidate yet but someone who um who is just thinking about how um uh how to contribute to 1 community that you were are someone to look to in terms of um saying I can do it we can do it you know um all together um you know and you can and showing how you can stand in solidarity or in unity even when you don't agree all the time um so and and also when I came on as a new member of the board you had certain goals and I really appreciated it that you um you said I have some goals as board president and their uh with your skills or with your will that you um you could see me as a partner in certain things uh 1 of them was to have shorter board meetings so I'll keep it short uh continue to keep it short um so um I want to thank you for that because uh because it did come so many things it did um and to show me how you connected with your community and how um I can also create create similar connections uh to to show different ways to serve that maybe our community has not seen before and to also just be resilient in the face of um of adversity especially uh I want to especially say to you that even before I was a candidate when um you brought me on just to validate your own feelings of like WTH what what is going on here and just to say like the system should not work the way that it is currently and there are better ways to serve our students so I want to thank you for that and um thank the both of you for um being women leaders um who are uh attending to raise up new voices and engage folks that are um that have been uh marginal historically marginalized or folks that just have dealt invisible or continue to feel invisible um and to show show them how they can be seen and um to find resources to um and to connect people I think that those are the values that connection and um that uh that unity and and trying to build some not not to tear it all down but to build something new um or or build something that has many hands together um to make it work for more folks is really the Legacy that you believe behind and um your remaining colleagues here here will always be um thinking about how voice has we stand on your shoulders and your voice has been something that we will be continuing to build on and future board members will continue to do so as well so I thank you for your service thank you okay thank you all so much for participating in um what does indeed feel like a lot of Pomp and Circumstance thank you thank you for that we will be moving forward to our uh regular public recognition section and just as a reminder the board does close that section out and so there will be hopefully a brief opportunity for board members to intern thank the community that has come to thank us tonight so we will begin with our uh public recognition members from the audience for items not can go after uh Donna buddy Bye Kelly and Paula so Donna Kent I am the mother of Kelly Kent some people used to call me Mama Bear because I went around threatening people that if they didn't part of my daughter it'd be in big trouble I stopped doing that after so it didn't seem like good politics but you know I'm from New York city so we do things a little more harshly there anyway I guess the main thing I would like to say I mean there's lots of things I'd like to say but I don't know who's responsible for writing HR documents like resumes you know what should be on a person's resume and what should be on the expected goals of the job develop a very thick skin and perhaps you should have an in-service regarding that because it's required everybody on this board knows that people not on this board no that because we watched what went on in this cycle and we felt in our hearts what went on in this cycle and as a grandmother of those 2 wonderful baby that she and Hector brought to us the thought of them having to open their front door and find a dead animal on their porch or a dead animal under the sign of I hope I say this right Amanda close um from people who obviously disagree you know now you can see that I'm a bit older than most people in this room and I come from an age where when people disagreed disagreed and they debated but they didn't throw threaten people and they didn't frighten them to try to change them so all of you have shown incredible tolerance and I admire you for it but I'm a little serious about the thick skin thing because I don't think either Kelly or I expected to have to feel what we've helped during some of this time so anyway I think you guys have done incredible stuff in the district and it's certainly for the students not for personal gain so I thank you all I'm sorry you're leaving not really thank you Mom thank you very much thank you very when you get the music oh perfect time right the fish good evening CCSD board good evening Culver City um Bubba fish council member here in Culver City um and I'm just very honored to be able to take a few minutes to express and I'm sorry I didn't do this earlier I was starting from something else just my deep and profound gratitude to these 2 board members for their leadership in their service to our city over the past many years um from measure K to measure e to measure o to Leading our our uh District through coid I mean what a time for local government you know it became very present on people's minds the impact of local government and um you all held your head up high you focused on the work despite all of the negativity and criticism and difficulties and challenges during those times you focused on the work and you focused your focus was always on what students are we leaving behind um and I always heard you talk about that when you were in community when you're in meetings you were always focused on what's you know the students we were leaving behind and how can we give them a boost um Kelly I I met you when we did pride in 2021 you were so supportive we rode together I think that was my first experience with you and um you you were really a light in that um for that event and and you both you and um board member AMA um supported pride and and got be that became an institution because of the support from the district and I know that's something that really means a lot to you and your family um board member Alma so thank you for your support of that um and uh board member Alo your support of latinx uh uh family families here in Culver City and ESL um speakers or ESL students um it's in families it's so important in the events that you've created um to support and and uplift latinx families I'm just um really grateful for both of you for how you encourage diverse University in our community and you uplift um diversity so you both lead with your entire heart um it's never easy to push for change in a system folks that do our villainized write their their scapegoated we've seen it time and time again especially women especially women of color especially Progressive women of color and it is uh and you all just served admirably and I'm so um grateful for for the service that you uh gave to the community and you achieve big things for all of us in leaving a lasting Legacy thank you thank you thank you very much okay you Paula because you are help this year really really so much and I know that English Learners I really need your help since because you are introduced um to all the and um we just need to say thank you uh for all your help and hopefully we have another person like you um continue helping to the English Learners thank you thank you Angela gray whenever you're ready good evening um I I do not know who to thank but I will I'm just going to describe a little moment time from last week um we had open enrollment for our um American Fidelity extra extended and I was very pleasantly surprised with the um representative who said that they're offering long-term care insurance I've been looking into that and I would I I think it's a great thing in in the conversation with um with him he explained to me that it was um the school district to decided to offer to employees so I never know who made that decision and where the support came from but it was a very wise decision to provide that option to the employees of CC USD I signed up and I'm and thank you for that thank you thank you and Mara whenever you're ready Mara Maremma there you go you're off again you're on for a second there you go sorry having technical difficulties um good evening everyone I'm speaking tonight as chairperson of cbac with the tacit agreement of the rest of the committee to represent us um although cbac will have an agenda slot on the January 10th meeting agenda and can speak more in at that time it recently came to our attention that 2 projects at the high school that have been presented to the public for over a year as being fully funded as a gift uh and that was why they were proceeding um will in fact end up costing the district over 2 million for the weight room that was recently completed and a press box that was recently approved in feedback's view of these projects were not represented properly to the community nor should the district be sending money on these projects at this time thank you very much thank you okay so that completes oh yeah that's it am I correct okay thank you okay great so that completes our uh public comment from members of the audience for items not on the agenda this time we moved to hearing from our CCSD employee groups and traditionally we start by hearing from our classified employee union representative Miss Debbie Hammy good evening um I'm going to keep my remarks free if I I would like to say that I agree with the remarks that Mara made about the gift of the weight room and I guess the addition of a Press Box I'm concerned about the expenditure the funds even if this doesn't come from the general fund it's disappointing that a gift has turned into a financial obligation for the school district especially at a time when we're having budget issues that being said I want to new Dr Talent this is Alisa for your service on the floor I know the pain of board member is not always an easy thing and I know that we've had ups and downs where we didn't always agree with each other but I had to say that I have a great deal of respect for both of you and I wish you well in your future endeavors thank you thank you and um Mr long the president of our uh Culver City Federation of teachers yes too um yeah I was actually a little surprised by The Format of tonight's meeting we've never had 1 like this this is generally the handoff meeting um to the new board so I'm going to save the majority of my comments for the next meeting about the state of things in the district um I will say um same thing I've sat in on the cvac meeting to do um and was a little concerned about some things that I have recently heard at cbac but again I'm going to save that for the incoming uh board um I again um would like to thank you both to um to Mrs amazona um thank you for your advocacy on behalf of um many of our El students in this District um it's you know not easy being a board member but thank you for your service and uh for Dr Kent you know we we go back a long way our kids were um they've been preschool together and uh we've had a lot of great conversations over the years and um it's a difficult job and I know that and I really thank you for the time that you put in um and your advocacy for our students here in CC USD so thank you both thank you um okay thank you at this time will move to hearing from our superintendent and team and I don't if it is at all possible to add Clarity around today's meeting and the 17th and why they are oh are we oh okay hold on um Mr ronetti's an employee groups I don't think he's online but sure I was told not to oh okay sorry right um so yeah I just wanted to invite you to help the community understand what today's meeting it is and what the 17th is because actually the 17th is a is actually more of a formal formality kind of meeting yeah the the 17th you know I um is will the uh primarily the swearing in of new board members right that's the the there will be a few uh routine business items that will last the new body to take a look at but um it was a transition time that we were able to say thank you and farewell to Dr Canton Miss Amazon in this meeting and then the next meeting is fully um around this swearing in and the welcoming and the thanks for our incoming board members and their service that they're about to embark on so um that is the extension between the 2 the 2 well and I just wanted to add that we we swear in our new board members in the third Tuesday now instead of the second because of legislation around waiting the 30 days out for the final vote count so we still have business that we needed to tend to today just to clarify yes thank you uh thank you for you know we're continuing superintendent's reports and um I do have as we continue our theme of thanks and and dedication for our service to our school district I mentioned these 2 um amazing parents at our last board meeting in November but I they weren't able to come um but I am going to give another shout out to Miele Maraga Holtz and Meredith Johnson who not only um spearheaded the measure e campaign for 358 million within the district but then are 6 months later not maybe not even I I yeah about 6 months later said we are game for helping with measure o so uh really and talk about dedication and time which we've heard several um themes of that this evening the these 2 parents were dedicated um hours upon hours upon hours of working connecting with parents connecting with the community Gathering Walkers um working with uh the County Office of registar for the ballot stuff which is not an easy task it's very bureaucratic and difficult in nature um but really it's it's our measure e and success on measure o as I've mentioned in Prior board meetings is due to a village a a lot of a lot of people working on that including this board other community members our labor Partners you know and different parents throughout the entire District but I had to give special recognition for Mila and Meredith for really championing the work and really taking on this um Herculean task of um 2 ballad measures and basically the same year um so I want to publicly recognize them thank them from the bottom of my heart and I want them to know they are responsible I know they know it but I'm going to say it again out loud along with other folks in the community but they are deeply responsible for 358 million over the course of improving our facilities and 2.4 million a year in response to our parcel tax income that will be continuing in 2026 and I'm deeply uh indebted to their service uh for our students across the district so if you'll come up please congratulations and since this is my superintendent's report I also want to continue the theme of thanks briefly to miss Imola and Dr Kent um I want to express my admiration and appreciation for both of you the experience as a school board member is a huge commitment of time and effort and any of your uh family members mentioned that as well your dedication and the time away from your family and your lives is just hours and hours each and every week and the both of you have been available and interested and engaged no matter the hour of the day of the week for me while I was only able to work with you for my first year as your superintendent I am personally grateful for both of you for not only being on the body that made an excellent choice to hire me but but also but but also for your very your deep support and mentoring of me as a newbie superintendent in an Engaged and high energy district and Community but really enough about me these 2 as we've heard again and again tonight are deeply and unwaveringly dedicated to students students were always first and foremost in their minds and hearts and it showed every single day I have great pride in this district and it is a direct result of the many previous boards but absolutely because of Miss Amazon and Dr Aunt so on behalf of all the students and I mean all your champions for all our students uh who you have advocated for and supported thank you for your service and dedication thank you Dr Lucas does that complete your report actually we have a very brief uh HR report great thank you good evening I just have a quick reminder and that is tomorrow is our district-wide classified hiring fair so if anyone is interested we will be doing on the spot interviews for um classified substitute positions as well as noon supervisors and special education instructional assistants um and substitute custodians and substitute class or um clerical ferini and I'm the student School Board member at Large um just recently the UC and Cal State application deadline has just passed for seniors so while this is a period of relief for many some are still working on their common app schools and scholarships I hope all seniors understand that if they're confused and need guidance there are many resources is for college helped by Administration and the College and Career Center at the high school for all students I wish you luck as we head into finals and hope you understand that will while you should try your best on your exams your grades you don't have to find you thank you for your time thank you for pouncy good evening everyone I'm Justin pouncy the HB vice president at the high school I don't have much to report except for our students are getting ready for finals and I know they're super excited to go on break so good luck to all of my centaurs on their finals we also have our winter winter sorry winter spring break sorry winter event we will honor our students accomplishments including completed courses rising stars in our first 2 College acceptances to Clark Atlanta University in San Francisco State University our students are working diligently on their personalized graduation plans and sharing a clear and achievable path to success for our seniors the focus remains on completing college applications financial aid forms and scholarship opportunities to secure their Futures last Friday our talented student artist proudly showcase their work at the hammering Museum it was inspiring to see their creativity on display especially as we engage in meaningful discussion questions about climate Justice and explored potential Solutions looking ahead we are actively exploring opportunities to expand elective offerings through collaborations with High School West LA College and Community Partners these efforts aim to provide a broader and more diverse diverse range of learning experience for our students as the first quarter comes to a close we take pride in all we have achieved the strong Community we have built and exciting challenges that lie ahead thank you for being a part of our journey you it's remarks from our outgoing board members starting with Miss imama um um I'm the daughter of Ava and salvadora Misa to immigrants who worked tires lead to ensure that their 4 Daughters could have opportunities they never had I'm the first in my family to finish sixth grade middle school high school college and graduate school but I didn't get here alone Mexico for my campaign managers Le and Julie thank you for believing in me and supporting my journey towards self-actualization as an advocate it has never been my intention to be elected and it has been a great honor that you allowed me the privilege to serve to our incredible staff your strength and dedication are the backbone of the district because of you our students can Thrive academically and emotionally to my family first to my mom and my dad thank you for showing me that education is the best way forward and for installing in me the values I carry today to my 3 Sisters thank you for always pushing me to dream big and name hi to my daughter you have helped me see myself as a Victorious Warrior capable of overcoming anything to my son thank you for walking beside me literally and figuratively on this journey and reminding me why this work is so important to my husband thank you thank you for holding me warmly during the moments I needed the most for to my colleagues on the board it has been a privilege to share the dis with you together we have faced challenges and celebrate a victories passing measure E and O exploring income generating opportunities and advocating for the vulnerable have been steps towards creating a lasting fiscal stability and culture of care for our students and staff we have so much to be proud of and so much work left to do let us commit to ensuring that every child in the district has the opportunity to express their academic abilities to the fullest also all other abilities that they might have this role was never about being perfect it was always about progress heart and doing the best I could for students the families and the staff of ccusd I served with all my heart but at work like always is never ever done education systems were designed to ensure children regardless of social economic background have a chance to succeed and today in our federal state as we see threats to these systems we must remember the lessons of the pandemic the wealthy and those with social capital will always find ways to thrive if the education system is dismantled but I urge this community that cares so deeply about all our students to pay special care of those who are under attack today our lgbtq plus youth are immigrant families and those facing systemic barriers like our English language learners the Lord isua once said every moment is an organizing opportunity every person a potential activist every minute a chance to change the world let's carry the spirit forward standing together to build a brighter more capable Equitable future for all my service may be ending here by my heart will always be with Culver City thank you for allowing me the privilege to serve this isn't a goodbye but simply AA pronto that was beautiful thank you for that my final real board meeting has arrived and my final real remarks are largely thanks starting with our students of course so I'm glad there are a few remaining in the room um CCSD Culver City Unified School District students I'm just going to make eye contact with you guys cuz you're the Reps in the room okay you have been and you continue to be bright lights and hope in times of both stability and uncertainty and I have always always learn earned the most from you whether it's through your art your activism your achievements or your advocacy we're going to be all right if we only keep all of the doors open to you that you have worked so hard for and deserve to see dusd employees I have learned so much from every single staff member former and current at this District I am certain that I fumbled many times along this Learning Journey and I truly appreciate the grace that you showed me despite those I need to extend particular gratitude to the staff members that have continued to support and Mentor me sometimes despite the potential risks you know who you are and even if it was as early as 2016 somewhere along the turbulent way or as recently as last week I do not forget and I do forever feel indebted to you I have given remarks previously expressing my gratitude for the instruction enrichment and engagement our students PK through 12 receive because of each and every educator at this District District so tonight my particular shout outs will be to those who spent much of their time interfacing with the board I can't shout out everyone because 9 years is not a trivial chapter in this book but I will specifically thank the superintendent who guided me along the way Mr Rose Dr Lockhart Mr Tran and Dr Lucas with some critical love and partnership in between from DRS Keller and Martinez Poulin I need to thank the cabinet members who continued to answer the questions of non-professionals like true professionals including Dr pumilia Mr Quinn Miss Leigh Bank Dr Michelle Dr and delicado Dr Fannon doctors Baxter and Garner Miss Rajiv and Dr Gooden thank you to the principles and your teams for the hours of time and energy you put in to Preparing presentations to this body thank you to Culver City city manager John nachbar and to the many many many City staff members that partnered with the board and superintendent along the way last and the most not least of all the possible last but not least thank you to the executive assistants at the district office for your sustained service but a special thank you must be said to someone whose seat truly know 1 will understand the difficulty of but her Miss Rebecca Williams Rebecca deserves an Applause Rebecca has remained steadfast and composed through relatively mild but also some incredibly traumatic transitions including some that were deeply painful because of the close friendships you have held this District together at the seams by merely a thread at times thank you to the leaders that came before me and on Whose shoulders I stand and without whom I would not have ever arrived here you are Towers thank you Megan and Kareem Sally Wells thank you Carlo and Gary silbiger and Barbara honig thank you Claudia VIs Tara thank you Thomas small thank you Ken Mann and Les Grant thank you to Alex fish Daniel Lee and Freddy puza to the godmothers of Culver City progressives your absence is noticed but my growth from your early years of mentorship remains a pillar of my leadership to those that have supported me and these other leaders through your ground game you are our muscle and I look forward to joining ranks with you again next year and a tremendous thank you to all 6 of my former board colleagues it was through you all that I learned that being unpredictable is not a strength in this work and that electeds are seated by majority but we do not nor should we lead or govern based on majority voice and then there is the matter of my friends friends that have had to endure no small personal cost as a result of sticking with me I do not take that lightly to name just a few Suzanne man Joanna Brody and More in newfeld but also my entire linha mom's crew my sustainability crew my students with disabilities crew and so so many more both covert and overt thank you I have given remarks previously attempting to encapsulate some of what this journey has shown me about leadership and education 1 thing left unsaid that is critical particularly tonight however is that I have as enthusiastically approved raises that we could not afford both at the beginning of my tenure in 201516 and again in 2223 because Educators deserve so much more than they are paid in this state and Country it was the right thing to do both times both of these times I also put in immense work to find the revenue to support those raises in 2018 I was successful in getting measure k pass to keep us in the black and our most recent go round however my efforts to find Revenue to support what our teachers and staff deserve to be paid by looking at our real estate was unsuccessful in the short term it is in this context that I turned to my colleagues that will face this dire budget and a second Trump Administration and to the new board members I have faith in you and I am inspired by how how hard you have worked to get here I know we are going to be okay with you leading us thank you Mr Guerrero and Miss Loretta for stepping up and for your service Vise president soon to be president Tristan asador it has been a true gift to work with you since your time as a student Advocate and activist and through to today I truly hope we continue to share space as you move through your public service career and I match the emotion that you feel tonight to Dr Lucas thank you for allowing my last year in this presidency to be 1 of such easy collaboration and Trust I send you all of my Culver Pride as I wish you the best in your next year years here and now to thank Paula Miss amazona you have had by far the toughest tenure of any board member I've worked with and I want very much for our community to hear me thank you for the incredible service you have given us coming in in 2020 and working in this particularly unique 4-year period has been a trial fit for No 1 but you faced it with Grace and integrity that is unparalleled Paula taught me so much including some things that I felt embarrassed to have only come to understand in relationship to her and her precedent breaking leadership I am honored to have worked with you to have wrangled with you and come out so much better for it and to have gained a true friend thank you and enjoy every moment of quiet you receive this next year my parents are here tonight and they of course are the how of my being here thank you for your encouragement for your Fierce convictions for your political lights that never ever dim I think I've made you proud but more importantly I want you to hear me say publicly how proud I am to be your daughter and to be doing my very best to do justice to all of the Decades of work you have both done to try to leave this country and World better than it was when you entered it to my hacky ha Min this wasn't your dream job for me this wasn't your dream life for our family especially the last few years and yet you held me and kept me Standing Tall through it all to those on the outside looking in when you observed the vitriol and worse being aimed at me I want you to know Hector was there invisibly or visibly he was right here by my side holding me straight up holding my chin up and my shoulders back to face it and all the while you honey were facing your own hurdles and we were wrestling with the trials that families wrestle with because life goes on thank you for fighting with me and for me and thank you for tech for protecting our babies through some truly difficult attempts at hurting our home and happiness let me also say though that as you have not just been my spouse but also a thought partner I have learned so much from you too I have learned a humility that I'm still working on regarding who is deserving of a sophisticated ear and who is not I always said even as a 20-something in New York City that you taught me how to listen that is more true today than ever to my children Audrey and Bruce I truly hope my service went mostly unnoticed but I know it did impact you both thank you for bearing with some nonsense along the way and I hope you understand that you are my why you always be my why whether I'm in this seat or any other it is for you I love you from the deepest depths of my soul thank you everyone we will now move to recess and we will return at 8:51 and you are welcome to do as you please at this time thank you so much okay it's 8:51 and I know so um everyone is is interested in getting out of here an hour ago so let's reconvene um and uh and I don't see s oh soup finishing up okay I'm I'm pretty sure we can get started with out soups so if you don't mind uh beginning with our so we're beginning our if are we recording um we're beginning with our information items and we'll start with 10.2 our dashboard dashboard presentation good evening Madam president members of the board I'm Angela Lando Baxter assistant superintendent of educational services and we're here to present on the dashboard tonight and I am Dr Dion Garner I'm director of teaching and learning Educational Services Department thank you and tonight we're going to go through uh differentiated assistant student group comparisons to State County ccusd and our next steps so we'd like to point out what's new on the dashboard this year is that we are keeping track of long-term English language Learners um they are our 14th student group that we keep track of of their data um the definition of a long-term English language learner is a pupil who has not attained English language proficiency within 7 years of initial classification as an English learner be on the right side you're like 1 slide ahead of me sorry about that um your forward 1 all right also new in the dashboard is the science indicator it's for informational purposes only we do have the percentage that we can um give to you for information if needed but that's also new next year it will be on the dashboard fully it's important to remember that uh the dashboard is um uh tested in for students in grade 5th and 8th and its cumulative physical life Earth and space science science and then once in high school students get tested in 10th 11th or 12th grade the science indicator is not used for accountability this year and the performance level for this indicator will be considered by the State Board of Education in 2025 so right now it's for information only our next slide is about our academic performance overall in comparison to California LA County we can see that we're in the green for English language arts magnetic seeds yellow which means we maintain green means High status yellow means we maintained in comparison to California for math you can see California and LA County are English language um we are in orange and we are our progress is lower than the state of California all of the very close and then our College and Career Readiness indicators is in the green at 62 2.8% if we look at our school academic performance across the board you can see our school sites in English language arts for all schools in Culver City Unified School District we maintain High status which is green in English language arts for math we maintain blue status in 2 schools El Marino and Lynn how which is very high and then green status for the other elementary schools CCMS and cchs did maintain this year and for English language Pro progress indicators um where it says in a that means that there's not enough English language Learners in most schools too um Garner a color although there is a percentage and so we see our progress there we have some work to do in some areas and you'll see that in the rest of the data so this is our academic performance for English language arts we want to pay particular attention to the fact that our eltz are new and our eltz are in the red and we need to concentrate on working with our long-term English language learners we also want to pay attention to our English language Learners because they are minus 43.3 assistance from standard that is a calculation that is math and so what that is is the lowest score you can have for a level 3 or standard and you add a add or subtract your uh student score and then you you have an average so that's a minus 43.3 and that um calculation is um on the CDE website and so we want to pay attention to those uh student groups that have minus um I would day over 20 or movement that's over 10 and this is our math performance here we also see for our else and our language Learners that that's a place that we need to focus on also our students with disabilities we're on math oh that's okay I can say so our highlights are all our elementary schools um and secondary schools receive high levels in English language arts both students of 2 or more races and students with disability had positive changes um and we have positive news for African-American students who are on the upward trajectory for math since 2022 so some of the planned improvements after we talk about our College and Career Readiness indicators thank you Dr Garner so overall our status is green which says we maintained at 62.8% some important um places to note here are that um we have in in terms of a multiple multiple ways to be College and Career ready that can be a from a p scores a through G completion dual enrollment aspect scores or earning the state seal of bi literacy and we do have some plans for growth in this area we've been working on expanding dual enrollment also the high school um is having 5 fa workshops um 1 is will be led by USC counselors are holding transcript meetings with Juniors regarding a through G completion and weekly CP Flex for juniors is focused on College prep and a through G completion so more ideas and more of our plans for continued improved actions are here with Dr Garner so what we've done uh so far and lately is we revised the master English learner plan we've had professional development for homeless students um identifying home homeless students and how to support them we've had that in October we are establishing an inclusion plan task force with special education um we have a plan for job and embedded which means throughout the day special education professional development and our Wednesday PD plans which focuses on our assessment and accountability System including our diabetes and the work going to analyze student data we will discuss publicly in January now moving into the academic engagement area which encompasses chronic absenteeism and graduation rates uh Culver City Unified School District is yellow and chronic absenteeism there was um we maintained we decreased a little bit we'll talk about some areas that we have to grow and in graduation we had a in data so we are yellow but we'll share some highlights in our graduation status because our overall rate is actually quite high so if we look at academic engagement and chronic absenteeism you can look across um horizontal El Marino is blue in terms of chronic absenteeism other schools maintained we you will see that Culver City High School does not have a status because this is determined and labeled on on data quest for grades 9 through 12 so it's it's not a dashboard color and graduation rates are not applicable K8 but at the high school the high school is blue and Culver Park High School doesn't have um a a color or status because they recently reopened and if we look at academic engagement and chronic absenteeism we have areas to grow you see our red is um our our students experiencing homelessness are in the red status level so we are going to be making um we're going to we'll share some continued efforts and some expanded efforts to improve that data and we are of course mindful of all oranges and looking at all student groups so before we go into the plans for improvement if you look at graduation with that technical glitch overall our high school rate is 97.9% of students graduated um from Culver High with the Culver Park technical glitch it brought us our status as a district to Yellow but the rate I believe overall it was for students who did not graduate in the district because of Staff counselors assistant principals and principals um expanded efforts and credit recovery and support so we're um excited to share oops share more of that data with you all so if we look at the next slide which is our differentiated assistance we have a preliminary phone call that we received that we are going to be in differentiated assistance for 1 area homeless youth that's about 1% of our students because remember this is K through 8 they um the students experiencing in the area of chronic absent tism we increased by 10.3% our student group went down from 74 students in 2223 to 44 students but the increase of 10.3 points um is going to put us in differentiated assistance which means we need to have focused and targeted supports for students experiencing homelessness so we are looking at attending the um 1 of the things that we plan to do is attend Improvement science the workshop provide provided by Leo in February continued monitoring data and interventions especially with the laser-like focus on that student group um using our a2a attendance system because even though the levels have decreased we have to make sure that we are communicating this in a variety of ways and making sure the message gets out on attendance is equal to learning time having start and SAR meetings continuing our regular data analysis Cycles to refine our theories of action and this is a a little bit tricky because housing status is confidential so some solutions that the high school offers and other areas um other school sites do as well our confidential hope emails increase of progress monitoring of home homeless students in regard to absenteeism and home visits the next indicator is conditions and climate around suspensions and our rate has um we have declined in suspensions which is a good thing just like declining in chronic absenteeism and our rate is is green overall as a district so our elementary schools our school look is okay I'm sorry is um we are blue and we will also post this online is blue all the way across at all of our elementary schools in regard to suspension and our Middle School is green and our high school is green because we are closely monitoring suspension data and we'll talk a little bit about what it is that we're doing to um make sure our suspension data goes in the right direction and students have the supports they need so if we look at the next slide which is conditions and I met we are overall all of our groups are in blue yellow or green or orange we're particularly proud of our African-American student group that is in green because this is also correlated to that um presentation that you all had a few weeks ago on um on the compliance monitoring plan for students with disabilities and the intersectionality so so we're as we continue to monitor that that data there will be some intersectionality there and so if you look at planned Improvement actions we're using professional development data and looking at that in plc's we're monitoring all suspension data we're looking we're creating those proactive measures through PBIS which our schools have all won awards in PBIS the continuation of restorative circles the counselors at CCMS our trainer of trainers the restorative practices that the schools are implementing and alternative to suspect alternatives to suspensions because we want kids in school and just our last slide our levels of support slide okay okay is Level 1 is universal support for all level 2 is targeted support supplemental differentiated assistance which as it was determined is students experiencing homelessness in the area of chronic absent ISM so that is where we are just to make that really clear and transparent for all so we are done thank you thank you both so um you said that it'll be posted online did you mean just like the attachment on board docks because it I don't know how much the public could see of the slides sure we can um we'll post it on board dogs we're also going to link it into our dashboard in the local indicator area because of the technical glitch in our graduation data that we're actually really proud of our graduation data results sorry link it in our dashboard meaning CCSD has a dashboard on its website or the state of California so when you go when you look at Culver City Unified School District on the dashboard there is a narrative and we're going to link it in there I see okay so colleagues questions comments go ahead Mr Grow I have tons but I'm also happy to let other folks go first okay this 1 is my favorite topic so I I apologize that I didn't specifically put this in my uh questions ahead of time but this is something that we've talked about here before or and you know uh directly before about how can you speak to a little bit about the local data and local indic uh and the local information that you will be using in in order to make sure that the supports that you are providing our students who are currently in the red and orange areas will be able you can track their progress throughout the year instead of waiting for the standardized testing to come around so we've been training the teachers on interim assessment blocks and also we do have already in English and math um our next session we will talk about how to launch an interim of session investment Block in sirs and be able to disaggregate the data so that they can progress monitor so we've been working on that for the whole year of how to uh give progress monitoring formative assessments to build lesson plans with so that's how we'll be working on that okay I believe we're coming to January um we're coming to the a meeting in January to explain that more deeply okay any good okay um couple of things thank you for the presentation I know I kind of asked it in advance and you were going to look into it I don't know if you had a chance did you find out if we had any lost penalties this year yeah it's a great question so participation will be verified in January of 2025 and I'll be able to communicate that to you so likely at that January presentation I'll be able to tag on to that okay um thank you um so I again I I very much appreciate this I appreciate the dis Congregation of of the data um I would still like to see deeper analysis of the data and I'd love to see it sooner as we can you know each year we we try to to iterate and and do this a little bit more efficiently you mentioned Sayers you know I would have loved to have seen us pull some Sayers data earlier to be able to get some ideas about the test scores or use some of our own internal data about things like graduation rates or attendance or suspension rates even though it's not absolutely sure that it's going to be what what you know the state puts out I don't I don't it doesn't feel right to me that we wait for the state to tell us about our own data when I think we have ways to get estimates of our data before um and I think what you were talking about the graduation snafu is a great example of that you know the state data includes kind of an error and we were able to look at our own data and say well this is really what the graduation rate was if we can do that now we could have done that over the summer as well to be able to start getting some views earlier of this so that we can start putting it into action a little bit um I I guess this may be to the superintendent or for our next board president I would really like us to have early next year um maybe after the the presentation um that Dr Baxter was talking about and Dr Garner um where we really look deeply into this data um and I think it's probably a good orientation for the new new composition of the board um I appreciate like I said the the breaking out of the student groups I would like to see it broken out by schools and I would like to see you know the demographic you know this the student group data at each school I would like to see it broken out by grade level so that we you can really see which schools are having success in certain areas and which schools are struggling in very specific places so that we can provide support in those places different student groups different grade levels um you know I would like to see which groups you know looking at it in a in a group view which groups of students are finding success in certain places and and other places not so we can say what are they doing here that's working so that we can offer that there we can kind of copy that um I'd like to see some year-to-year comparisons and we've got growth data but I mean I'd like to see the scores for 2 years ago and 1 year ago and and this year so we can see are we on a trajectory you know because 1 each year you can get some variance and a little dip or a little growth or something you don't know if that's really systematic but if we're seeing growth over the years you know or declines over the years we know that that's more of a significant Trend um we have some groups that are very small and so they don't show on the data on the dashboard to protect the the the privacy of the students but some of those are also the same groups who we really need to focus on and so even though we can't pull that data about homeless students well even though we can't pull colors necessarily for homeless students or Foster youth or else at some of the schools or else at some of those schools we need to have some indicators for those folks even if it's only for internal use so we could really see because when you look at it it's blank because there's no color on the dashboard so we kind of skip over it but then you look at the actual number and you go ooh they're really struggling and so we need to have ways of kind of red flagging or yellow flagging or orange flagging whatever some of these very small but deeply impacted groups of students um and then local indicator data I think we should really take a deep look at you know what did they say on youth youth truth last year or what did they say on our other climate surveys and again by school by by grade level I guess it's only 1 1 per each kind of grade span but by school by student group what is the experience of this group of students at X Elementary and and what is the group of that group of students at the same Elementary and how is it different and how is it different crossed our campuses um I mean I I think the board would benefit for a deep dive into that type of data early next year um I also think the lcap committee which is starting to come together really needs to to do that kind of Deep dive into Data so that they can start you know looking at the existing lcap plan and say what's working what's you know what do we need to tweak and things like that um and then just 1 last thing speaking of the lcap committee um I I really appreciate the work in recruiting folks that I I think it's constituted at this point um I'd love to know how representative it is and it's always challenging there are certain groups of students who are harder to get representatives of on that um you know but at the same time those are again those tough nuts to crack that we really have to have that kind of representation so I'd love to hear early next year or or you know whenever there's a chance how representative is our lcap committee and where we got holes in representation what are we doing to recruit somebody to fill some of those niches so that all different student groups and families can be represented in that um and then just just 1 last 1 um the the slide about um on how students and again how it's you know we we mention a lot the privacy issues because you can't flag that for for teachers or something like that but I think we've also got to look at it from a more Global way it's almost like udl which was a strategy that was originally intended for students with disabilities but really benefits all students I think when we talk about some of the challenge are on how students are facing it's not something that you necessarily need to know who they are and provide a direct service to them maybe it's the way we assign homework and when we assign certain kinds of projects if you're sleeping in your car you're not going to be able to do that you know or certain expectations about participation in ing but if you've got to go cuz your mom's picking you up you know to get to a shelter or something like that after school you're not going to be able to participate in after school tutoring so I think there's some things that we do in our Global practices that we really need to look at about now imagine I'm a student who doesn't have a stable housing environment what of our general practices are going to be really challenging for those students and we don't need to know who those students are to question some of our common practices and say we may need to shift the way we do assignments or projects or group work or some something like that um and we don't need to know specifically who the students are to reflect on what we're doing that will be challenging for different groups of students so you know identifying students so we can provide Direct Services as part of it but I think also that reflection on just how we do what we do um is is also part of it thank you um I am a I'm just really grateful for this this presentation and uh I have been meeting with uh elac and DAC parents and so uh board member and I are compiling like some of their suggestions and how we can improve the English language program um and so I will be sending that via email thank you so much okay thank you for the presentation um I want to thank DRS Lucas Baxter and Garner for taking time this morning um kind of at the final hour going through this presentation with me um just just me uh because I had you know I had a number of questions and I wasn't sure what our timing would be tonight and indeed it is late so I'm I'm glad we did that so thank you um and what I I would like to add on to because I really appreciate Mr Guerrero um suggestions about for the new body um I think this is an excellent way to onboard them and that I would like to add that uh Dr Garner this morning you mentioned that we we learned a little bit from this and will continue to learn in between now and January and maybe Beyond about where our interventions are working and I I would love for that to be part of the Public Presentation to the board for the new body so that um as we're in this like deep fiscal emergency crisis what you know impending doom when we're thinking about where resources cannot be cut or or you know all those decisions that what's what we know either pilot or best practices degree know that that that's not negotiable because it's particularly for those groups that that were being either flagged or receiving differentiated assistance notice from talked about um the additional opportunities for students to learn which would be the before after during uh before after Saturday school and we do have some schools that are doing that and we'd love to bring that data to you okay thank you um okay thank you both so much for that so we'll move on at this time to our first interim report Miss Rajiv thank you good evening board president Dr Kent super and Dr Lucas board members members of the color City Community tonight I'm happy to present the first report for 2425 fiscal year and the 2 out years next slide please so as you can see in the slide 2 the fiscal team is always busy year around the year around in working simultaneously if the 2 fiscal years currently we are at the first interim reporting stage so why do we have to do our first intervention the first interim budget division ensures that the district's financial plan remains spirit and responsive to any changes that have occurred since the initial budget adopted by the board in June 2024 so we looked at the actual expenditures and revenue receipts as of October 31st and projected the budget for the current and next 2 years based on what we know now we are on time to submit to Leo the report by December 15th the key terms um I just wanted to share 1 Thing on this um we we've used all of these terms but our funding is based on the average daily attendance funding is directly tied to the number of students who are present in school Although our attendance last year was 24.7 percentage improving student attendance Alps not only the funding but the most important factor of continuity in student learning come on cusd you are a leader in many front and let us try for 100% attendance so these are some of the major assumption assumption that are used in our first interim and the 2 out multi-year projections I want to highlight a few things here estimated Ada is a current year average daily attendance based on the current year enrollment and then if you can see the line below funded Ada that is the average of the past 3 years attendance and that's how we are funded and so 1 person increase in our attendance translates to 780 K and if we can increase our attendance by 2% um it is approximately 1.5 million so what changes for syndrome so we have an increase of 1.8 million in our combined unrestricted and restricted funding ongoing rental lease income of 1.1 million which is definitely helping our budget and then there are some other adjustments Minor Adjustments in our Revenue new based on the current year entitlements for federal and state income and there is a 1-time adjustment of 900,000 we made um in our California State teachers retirement system liability it had a negative balance so which means it's a it's like an income so we recognize that it's a 1-time adjustment so that's how you have a 1 time um the total revenue increase of 1.8 million at first in term compared to budget adoption so now um I just wanted to share I know we have received we have this budget includes a cola of 1.07 for current year 2.93 for next year and 3.08 percentage for next year Cola but even with the cola if you see the L of Revenue or base funding revenue is reduced from year to year so I just wanted to share this is because of the 88 drop so I think in 1920 in the last 3 during coid or percentage dropped so now we actually hoping we are back to 94.7% last year so that ADA loss is actually wiping out your Cola increase so that's why you see the we have lost funding of 3.5 million even with the cola so I just wanted to share that in fact with you and then on the expenditure side what really changed um the slide shows increase in expenditure budget since adoption so there is a correction in this Slide the fourth column is actually 24/25 for interim not 23 24 or just wanted you to know that and so we had to increase the it's a it's a typo so we had to increase the budget by at first syndrome by 2.8 million due to the expiry of 1 time funds and some of the adjustments and expenditures based on the actual expenditures we are re revising our budget so there is a 12% increase of approximately 400 K in non-personal expenditures so these are all unrestricted um expenditure budget changes so this slide shows the contribution by the general fund unrestricted for restricted programs what it means is so these are additional funds that are unrestricted funds are used to pay for these programs for CTE program we are um there is actually the the changes is actually we were supposed to originally contribute 1.2 1.5 million at adoption it is reduced it is adjusted right now adjusted down and then special education we are increasing by 600,000 at first interim and then there's title 2 and title 3 based on the actual expenditures there will be a contribution the district general fund unrestricted will pay into this restricted program and then for a2g Grant again we are paying 323,000 more than what we have and the new Universal preschool and so in on in total the contribution of what we had at adoption was 15.8 million and now it's increased by 900,000 the fun balance so the fund balance changes that first interim so are compared to adoption or fund balance increase by 700 K we know from the previous slides the increase of Revenue and expenditures but we are able to use the RDA funds and that's the differentiator this this time in our budget is the RDA funds for the general fund operational expenditures towards maintenance of our facilities to the tune of 3.4 million the last but last row rdf funds transferred to support general fund that's exactly what trigger allowing us to meet the maintain the 3% um for the current year and for the next 3 years now the multi-year projections and this is the revenue projections this slide shows the important change in Revenue at first Centum thank you for call City Community for their overwhelming support in passing the measure War beginning from 2627 thank you to board's approval of resolution number 19 which allows us to transfer $4 million in the next 2 fiscal years from RDA to general fund right that's how we are able to balance our budget and have a a positive um fund balance and meet the minimum 3% requirement so this is the um it might be expenditures multi-year projection of expenditures so last but 1 row shows the total expenditure budget of 115 million for the current year the 2 subsequent year budget reflect an adjustment towards fiscal stability plan of reductions in personal supplies and contacted services to the tune of 2.8 million so that's the um uh we will be bringing back the adjusted um second interim budget with the fiscal stabilization plan so I would like to highlight the last row of this slide which shows that we are not deficit spending for the next 2 years so you see a negative uh for the first year but the next 2 years if you see we have a positive um um balance no so what's our ending fund balance um we meet the 3% for the current year and the next um 3 next 2 years so now superintendent Dr Lucas is recommending a positive certification at first Centrum based on the first Centrum budget projections we will be able to meet the financial obligation for the current and S 2 subsequent fiscal years that's what positive certification mean next steps we recommend board to adopt this first in from budget under the action item number 14.1 and then we will Auditors will come back and present the audit of 2324 audit report for the last fiscal year in January board meeting okay the next steps we will yes no okay so we'll continue to improve the implement the fiscal stabilization plan for the out years to continue our positive certification and we'll continue to monitor spending and I just want to remind like with this like the the previous slides I presented out of the hundred dollars of unrestricted funding we are spending right now $92 on salary and benefits which is the compensation so 92% of our Undisputed dollars are spent on personal so to build a healthy Reserve we have we have to assess or non-classroom positions and make adjustments so that you know that's something important that we are you know focusing right now so we we are also closely monitoring our cache because we we are maintaining bare minimum of 3% reserve and the timing of receipts and expenditures are the reasons why you know sometimes we are oscillating negative and positive cash parentheses so we are trying to keep a positive cash balance and then we are striving also to build um healthy Reserve by increasing the attendance rate and attracting more families for the amazing program we have at CCSD through the intra District permit I am at the end of my presentation and happy to answer any questions thank you Miss Rajiv um yes so board members questions I'll just look to my right first I I just want to uh express my gratitude I have really um have seen uh how important it is to continue to educate our community and you continue to do that uh as you present um very deliberate intentional thinking about specifying Ada and also that graph where you show like where we are in the budget it's so important for our community to understand that and so thank you for continuing the education and I encourage you to continue educating us thank you Miss Loretta I just have some future requests and 1 of them is uh if we could in the future I I guess in January because you were saying saying how um you know we would have the audited actual we we a trend in how we would be doing the in-classroom spending percentage because this it's not in um the first interim report that um to Lego our our compliance with the in-classroom spending percentage um it's not something that we would look at in first interim but in the future if we could see the trend going from last year into this year um um including adopted budget into you know um current actual whatever it is current at that time and then the other um request would be um if your last in your last slide you had um 1 of the things that you wanted to focus on is to improve attendance great and increase interdisc permits we've heard a lot about the first how to improve attendance rates but we haven't heard a whole lot about the the second and so I I'm wondering about in the future what what your your plan is for that thank you thank you on the ca I did I was curious because that's something um it's important for all of us to know are we meeting the CEO compensation it's not a requirement for first syndrome but I did do my numbers outside the system we are at 57.66 with this first interim budget so it's more than the last few years so I just wanted to share that but 100 personal included in my um presentation too and then on the Outreach efforts for the increasing intra District permits is I think the measure e is going to be the Avenue that when we showcase the good work that's happening the facilities and everything I'm I believe and then of course um in collaboration with cabinet and Dr Lucas we will come up with more ways to attract families thank you Miss Mr girl yeah thank you very much for this um and and just kind of echoing board member Loretta's uh question about the 55% I really appreciate you doing the calculation kind of on a nap beginner or you know your own Excel sheet just so we can keep an eye on that um the other 1 too is there was a little bit of any increase in spending on classified salaries um and I don't remember when but I believe you and I had a conversation that that's not necessarily from the the increase in salaries that was negotiated but it's actually starting to be because we're moving some of those classified positions out of the contracted column wherever that is into the actual employees and so as we have more classified employees were going to see that is that am I calling that correctly yes some of the content that's that's correct you can see we had sometimes all all to pay under personal it'll be more and sometimes yes we do make that adjustment for special education this year we have hired some positions in house so that means the personal cost will go up in your contractor will go down okay yes so that's a good thing okay good thank you very much okay uh thank you I don't have have any questions I do really want to Second um my colleagues comments and and questions and in particular the education piece it's been a very unique contribution to your uh with your leadership to this district and I I really want to encourage that it be sustained especially as you have a new body it is so important you know I I've learned more about the budget in these last in these last months with you than I had in my entire tenure and I really appreciate it and I wish I'd I'd had more of that earlier so thank you thank you Dr Kent okay so you're here again I think for okay we'll hear from you a couple more times yeah yes okay may I go yes please yes so 10.4 is the annual developer fee report um this is actually a requirement so this is an annual accounting of developer fees that we collect we collect all 5 dollars 717 cents per square foot for residential construction and 84 cents for commercial construction These funds help mitigate the impact of the expansion and then the construction Edition in the city so these funds are kept separately under front 25 so if you just see the report we had a carryover balance from the prior year 2223 of 4.4 million and then in the in last year 2024 we have received 1.07 million and there is an expenditure on TK expansion so developer fees can only be spent on expansion it cannot be spent on capital projects so we have spent 120k last year here and there is an ending fund balance of 5.4 million so that's the that is this annual developer fee report for last year thank you okay questions very good thank you for that uh 10 please oh crap while they're pulling up the report I just wanted to share um so the measuring updates and as of today is uh we're going to show the the design phase um in all of our school sites and each slide actually shares Where We Are where we are in terms of um their um site layout options Elementary School the design team the architect and their team they met with the site facility committee last week on December 3rd and they presented actually 3 site layout options so how did they develop the site layout option the starting point when the master plan so they started with the master plan and then from that master plan they did an assessment of what's the current capacity of classrooms and programs at East website and they also looked at the enrollment numbers what is what was a trend and what's projected currently and then the the communities input so for eldering con um there are 3 things where the most important things where the parking issues they have at sort an Overland I'm I'm sorry maybe we can can you share your screen your slides in the meantime while we're pulling it up um I'm logged out of the zoom at the moment okay I'm just concerned about going so far into it with the um but I'm actually I'm in the zoom let me see if I can okay let's do this for now if it's working is working are you guys in oh it's in the I think it's working no I can see it in the screen here you can see it I can see it okay so let's continue and then once they get it up we'll figure something else out okay so if you see here there are 3 options the top 3 pictures or the options that were shared with the committee and then if you um so basically uh the the 3 take Community was such actually the committee sorry I keep saying Community the facility site um site needs committee um so they there are 3 things for the parking issues that they wanted this master plan to address the parking issues and number 2 was the master plan showed um a brand new parking lot and they did not want a brand new parking lot so that was 1 thing and then they wanted to maximize the dollar so this particular site they said we want to maximize the dollars not everything in new construction we want to make sure we have a construction at the same time modernization of every single classroom so they were focusing on these were the 3 points that 3 inputs they had So based on this input and based on the prior meeting inputs The Architects actually shared so option here I'm going to share what's the difference between option a option b and option C option A is 7 new classrooms with brand new edition and then there is an improvement in parking lot at sotil and there is also a modernization of all the classrooms um that's the option A option b the second picture I know it's not clear but um we are also thinking and coming back to you bored with all of these options and then asking for your feedback once they make a selection so at the time I think we will have individuals write for all of these options the second option is instead of the and and and I forgot in the option ah there is also 7 classrooms plus the admin office will be a brand new admin office the option b there is no um admin office instead the basic 7 classrooms plus there will be demoing and building the science lab Plus Class 3 and class 4 in the back there are a few classrooms which are actually smaller than usual so they're thinking of that's the that's the second option is where they will be demolishing and building a brand new 3 classrooms over there and these front 7 classrooms and and that's the option b so there's no in this particular option admin office will not be touched um and then the option sees um they did not um like that option it's basically it had a new parking location they moved the new buildings from Overland and saw the corner to middle of the sorters so I think based on these um they have the committee is actually we need towards option b option b is nothing but um the brand new building 7 classrooms plus 3 of these additional classrooms that are there in the back that will be um brand new and then um now they're asking come with variations of um options A and B with cost analysis because right now we don't know as they are you know trying to maximize the car the dollar they want us to come back Architects to come back with option A and B C is they don't want C so option A and B with the dollar amount that will be um happening in the next um 2 weeks and then they they've also done a 3D mapping of Campus was performed um in the last week of so that's what you see at the bottom um The Architects actually are right now um they've done an assessment and Community feedback on the parking issues also um are um hack did that um to come to this conclusion of which parking structure parking um option they should include in their um site plan next slide please Mr Rajiv are you going to go through each site the same way that you just did with Alvin Khan okay but some of them have these options some of them do not have the details so I'm going to just share what is it that we have shared I think the first 1 I just went detailed just so you know that as an example of them as an example and everybody is the same way it's done yeah got it thank you so if you look at the product elementary school so the there are 3 options at faragut and then but they didn't like and they op based The Architects um shared 2 options they didn't like both of the options the reason is um from the beginning OCD unfair it has been um particular on having a separate uh playground and separate they didn't want to to have a shared space the OCD program and the Elementary School site and that's why now they have not um they didn't like both options so they're going to come back with the revised option they are working on it right now that's for fargate and then move on to slide 4 that's El Marino El Marino actually um they they have met and they kind of leaning towards there are 3 options over there option a option b option C and this particular option you can actually see there are the positives and the negatives that are given in that slides which tells what's good and what's bad but then the team actually is leaning towards option b and 1 of the important thing we have done at El Marino is slide number 5 um we wanted to the the how many said that they wanted the staff to also look at these options so the Architects went back to staff meeting and they represented all of these options now the even the staff selected the option b so which is basically a they have 2 um 7 new class classrooms at that school site and that's the selection so this basically the the the greatest value to the cam every to the site is the option involves unique circulation patterns that integrate kindergarten and transitional kindergarten areas it provides good Community visibility because it has a structure that gives a new outlook to the site and they also have some created new playground for students and that's why they like that model and uh we will come back and present these options for your um consideration in January and then moving on to um slide 6 Lynwood hoe um the design team met and then they they gave 3 options now um this is again 1 of the teams where they've selected the option what model they like so they are leaning towards um option I'm trying to see so slide 7 you can see that they have moving toward leaning towards option b so basically option b it ensures they have new classrooms that comply with licensing because this is a place where the the the classrooms that are being added or for OCD and for TK TK and pre preschool and then they they ability to provide additional classrooms and flexibility while minimizing the disruption cost so these were the core values for the team and that's why they liked it so that's on slide 7 so they have an option b uh 2 story building of 8 new classrooms at um Leno then moving on high school high school I know I have a architect um here DLR uh with us Jeffries representing is a project manager and so they they they are doing it a little different because it's a complex it's a school and high school is still different from elementary school a lot of complex program is there so what they're doing is looking at the complexity they're just I didn't trying to identify what are those program needs in the classroom needs um of the committee so they basically identify you know some of them wanted a Consolidated building for each of the core subjects like English should be a separate building mat should be a separate building and that's how they are going and then the and then 1 other thing DLR is doing a little bit different is they're focusing on the funding so they're also focusing on if it is 75 years and old you get additional funding for seismic mitigation and seismic so they're looking at the funding model first before they select the building and that's why if you see their um even for middle school and high school for both if you look at their um the the pictures that they're sharing it's all based on the um the additional funding that that we will be getting and um 1 of the other thing is is make hardship you'll get some funding there is City to get some funding so these are propped to additional funding that we will get so that's why they are going they are having that approach which we are expecting other um sites also right now to do some Middle School is something similar so they are still in the deliberations stage they are presenting the options and they still discussing um we haven't made they haven't made a decision yet but the meetings are going well and the next slide 10 um is basically it's a 3D mapping so they again they started the 3 3D mapping at all the high school and the middle school basically this allows the design team to have accurate information about the existing condition the calculate the dimensions and areas remotely so that's what they are doing right now the next moving on to slide 11 oh I'm not included um labona and cber Park High School because they we've just started with them and I don't have any option to share yet that will be the next board meeting um moving on to the roofing project so slide number 11 so we've completed all School sites the last phase is trying to collect the important part of the project is collecting the warranty documentation from the contractor because next 1 year something happens they are responsible for it and then with Garland they have to give us the document so that 30 years anything happens to this material we can go back and they have to replace a new replacement so that's what we're working on and then the the final part of this HVAC project um the roofing project is is complete and we will come back you with the um notice of completion in the next board meeting and then in this in this process of this roofing project we also had to go for this air quality sampling and that's why we've added this agenda item for your approval under the action item because they have done the um sampling and lab analysis for this uh during the roofing project and the next slide number 13 um so all of these from up to slide number 18 is all about roofing project it's the same thing so I just wanted you to share all the school sites it's complete and we are at the final stage moving on to slide 17 so what's next so if you look at the in the agenda we've added the architect design phase the last time when we came to you we just came with an agreement with the architect as to you've been assigned the School site and we just had an agreement there uh as an architect you are assigned to this school site but we didn't have a dollar amount but right now the agreement that we've added this is an amendment so which includes the dollar amount so how did we arrive at the dollar amount basically what we did is if you go on to um um slide 19 so this is how we've calculated this is the Office of Public School Construction sliding scale this is a standard that's used basically what it is is if it's a new construction it starts at 9% the first 500,000 of the construction um cost you will pay 9% and then it starts decreasing and then it goes to 5% it's more than 10 million dollars that's a striding scale if you see on the right hand side I've just shown the calculator how we arrived at the amount and that's what is reflected in the contract that you have and this is basically it's a tiered percentage system of giving them but this is again based on the ated construction cost right now but we will be changing this once we know the true cost we will be adjusting and this contact will be adjusted this is an estimated like a budget is an estimated amount um with the architect so that's slide number 19 and then moving on to other capital projects um 21 so this is the dedication ceremony at the um of the um High School wait room project and then the the next um sty number 22 is the lunch structure I know the metal share structure is complete and um for the fabric State structure there was a actually um we when they were doing the footing they realized that there is a sewer line and before there was electrical lines we had some setbacks in this project but it's on it started now they they finished that last footing today so they were able to complete so you do have a change order because of that additional work that we had to do scan down and see what is happening so you have a contact for day Bank um in this agenda so they're scheduled to complete by December 20th the when the students come back in January the state taxes will be ready for them to use am I right yes I I'm just checking with Tico um then then the 2 are Replacements so again um this is almost everything is done we are waiting so it passed uh the HVAC project passed the fire alarm test but we're waiting for the certificate so once the certificate comes they have also done the enclosure for all the respect units that each of the school site at eldering con faragut and high school so that project is also complete we'll come back with a notice of completion then the last 1 the page uh line 24 is a fan in the high school gymnasium I know high school gymnasium does not have and we're trying to add this big fan which is a 3 and 300 lb fan but then I don't know whether the structural Integrity with the structure can support because I've had a situation in the previous District that we had something even smaller than this it didn't support and we had an injury so we wanted be careful so that's why we have a structural engineer looking at the structural Integrity to see whether it can support the 300 pound fan so we have a contract now added in this um agenda for your approval for your review and consideration I didn't know there was that at the end of the presentation sorry I didn't mean to cut you off there at the end um yeah no I didn't know there was an injury before um oh not here oh I said from my experience before okay okay that's helpful um okay great colleagues so again very robust comprehensive uh presentation thank you so much I'm I'm I'm eager for the new board to learn all of this early on too other comments and questions how big is that fan no stop don't answer that don't answer that um for the the architectural it's a 24 ceiling fan it's a huge 1 yes um for the OPC no opsc sliding scale so I didn't realize that before it's not like each Architecture Firm just comes up with an amount there's an industry standard and based on the estimates of the project it basically determines what the cost is going to be so there's not a lot of variability into that so that's that's really good to know um the other 1 that I just 1 question that I really wanted to ask um I really value the work that the The Advisory committees are doing um I wonder and this is a fantastic presentation for us and anybody who's watching this um but I wonder if there's any way that the sites are communicating with the parents at the sites um even if they're not able to involve them in this because you have too many people and it becomes complicated but just at least giving some updates through an occasional you know hey we're working on this hey we're working on that so that it's it's not the the school Community just getting a final oh this is already done just some type of of process I'm thinking of meeting with the principals because I know few I think 1 or 2 parents have um shared that you know they want to be part of it but you know the timing does not allow them so definitely we're thinking is there a way that we can you know getting feedback from input from the principles maybe we can meet when they have a meeting like um we can go and share these presentations and that's the thinking and then I'm going to consult all of them and then come back and share the The Wider you know at least the in informing that we can do I think the the more accepted the the final project will be but but I defer to your judgement on that yes we will try to do that yes you want their feedback everyone's feedback seeing other unmute I'll just add that the 1 slide where there was a Merino or elrond con um I think it was elrond Khan where they had at the entrance to alren Khan uh poster board of the options and then it looked like families were maybe putting dots I'm not sure what that is hard to it was an engagement piece so all of it seems like maybe a drop off if there were a poster board and people could QR support for an option or I don't know it seems like there could be some kind of Engagement something a little more accessible in terms of at least voting on the options definitely I think that's a good idea I don't know if that's best practice so I don't mean to suggest that it's a should it's just a thought so we are in a tight timeline I'm literally you know like running the I want to make sure that we are following the timeline because we want to get the prop to additional dollars so we are trying to meet the timeline but definitely yes um we can share with the community make sure everyone hears and then they give their feedback thank you for that oh yes um um so I just wanted to again immense gratitude and so grateful that we're getting these extra dollars because our community is going to appreciate that that it doesn't have the come out of their pocket uh to get extra buildings my comment is really towards the community and just want to say please Culver City give some Grace to our construction we are under construction it's going to be loud it's going to be Dusty and uh and so just please be uh know that we're in construction mode and and that we need to ensure that our vendors who are coming out to do X Y and Z do not need to be canceled or delayed or that we have to pay extra money because of noise or dust or you know whatever the construction um um you know uncomfortableness that you know anybody who's gone through some construction understands that when we go through this it's a little painful and then at and we're going to have beautiful buildings where our staff and our students can Thrive and learn and be proud of all the buildings so it's going to be a little painful hold in their and then we're going to have some beautiful buildings so just just wanted to give a message to our community thank you okay all right I think we're complete thank you so much for that presentation we're moving to 10.6 good evening 10.6 is the first reading of a new classified management job description um this is for an executive director of facilities management and construction as Sant just shared we have a lot of construction and projects going on and with the 358 ion dollars um that is a lot of activity on our campus so um we are this job description was created to hire somebody that will essentially oversee the projects that will have an understanding of um of construction and school construction specifically um and I want to just make note so that everyone is aware that this position is completely paid for out of the uh measure e Bond money so it's not paid out of general fund its paid fully out of the bond money um and this job description reflects the district's commitment to that to that we hire employees that um have values that align to the district and board's commitment to equity and social social justice that is added into this job description as well yes um 2 quick wins and you explained this 1 to me but I think this Bears repeating for the public so is this a forever position so this is not a forever position um this position would be around for as long as the we had Bond money um and then if there was additional money that came in afterwards that would fund this position it would continue but um once the bond was completed and if there was no other additional projects this would be a position that would not continue okay fantastic and kind of structurally what is the relationship of this position with the existing director of Maat so um the existing director of MIT as you're probably aware is very very busy with just the ongoing the buildings that we have the not so fancy new stuff and the day-to-day problems that come up that need to be fixed and overseeing just our general um everyday upkeep of our schools so our general um director of maintenance operation and transportation overseas sort of that day-to-day stuff where this new position is specifically overseeing these new construction projects or some of the um renovation projects that are going on um this position if we do get any of the funding um from the date for doing the um remodels from the older buildings that this person would oversee those projects as well so it's really about overseeing any projects that are coming with this sort of new money that's coming in to the district so it's largely separate though its side by side it's not 1 is the the supervisor of the other they're they've each got their realm they have completely different roles yeah thanks I mean they would be working together but different roles yes okay um I'm really pleased to see this position it um did not exist for the last Bond we had an external contract based program management position that was quite a bit more costly and increasingly more costly every year and so I'm just very pleased to see it and I I'm I'm the same savings will be really um impactful on the amount of work that we can get done so our goal is to bring this back for approval at the next meeting on the 17th so we can get it posted on the 18th to start um getting applicants for it so that we can get somebody in um as quick and it's close to the description so that it matched the actual work of what this Supervisor was going to be doing um and the changes that have come about with the um with the adoption or the um the the meals for all
