alright we're about ready to get started hello everyone good evening start with a roll call of all the board members and all of us are here with one of us here via FaceTime Colorado flag salute which will have Sophia Hortonville Middle School leading at the end but before we do that I would like for everyone we haven't heard Taylor school board meeting since the Parkland shooting and I would like to ask that we take a moment of silence for those 17 victims those are in turn their families not Community for we do that everyone just wants to know if you can stay under said I'm going to stand for a moment of silence okay thank you and now I miss with your heart and if she'll come up lead us in our flag salute please stand put your right hand over your heart ready begin I pledge allegiance to closed session of we do have a few that I will read out now it's from our Public Employee discipline dismiss One release item on 2.2 in closed session the board took action to release 35 temporary and three long-term substitute certificated employees effective as of the end of a 2017-2018 school year the roll call vote was as follows a board member Allaire I remember can't I remember before I die remember past Palace I remember 11 I Inquisition the board vote police 3 temporary Adult School teachers effective as of the end of the 2017-2018 school year the roll-call vote was as follows remember Alero I remember can't I remember right I remember past Palace by board member 11 and then the last one in closed session the board voted to non-real act one probationary Elementary certificated employee from employment effective as of the end of the 2017-2018 school year the roll call vote was a Lowe's board member Allaire I board member can't I board member McBride I remember pass Palace I remember 11th I those are the only action I'm taking closed session and now we're to the doctrine of our agenda I'll move to adopt agenda discussion all those in favor say hi a consent agenda anyone have anything to pull or to comment on the consent agenda discussion all those in favor moving right along to Awards recognitions and presentations for president I'd like to ask for the ccef executive director Melonie Mac and Wendy Hamilton or they have a presentation this evening that they would like to make have a generous kind feel like those ones good evening Madam chair and the board we are so ecstatic that we have a generous anonymous who has elected to donate $85,000 to the Culver City Unified School District and we wanted to be here the sea to prevent it he is not here this evening and chooses to remain anonymous but he is watching and Sarah maybe if we could wave and just take thank you credible can we take a picture of you always in a picture with a big fat picture picture going on now I always bring a steam on tripod or not sorry oh that's good I think I'm in the picture wonderful thank you and one last thing Wendy if you would like to read the thank you letters the donor came to us approached us and said the story was that when he was young when he was a student he was identified as having promised and so and given some opportunities in coaching that led to him having a getting a degree and having a career in engineering and had a very successful and rewarding career and he wanted to offer the same to students in our district and the $85,000 original $75,000 gift and then an additional $10,000 he added just this last week cuz he was feeling so generous and moved is targeted to our new maker Space Program the district new Makerspace program and high school robotics team so yeah it's really wonderful and so if you would allow me to read Madrid who is the maker space program order exit and the other is from the coach of the robotics team so these are letters that are two are Anonymous donor in thanks Miss Madrid in the Sticks Christy makerspaces students are encouraged to combine ideas of science technology math engineering and Hands-On tinkering to build alternative solutions to existing problems students work on engaging challenges that promote empathy and Spark curiosity they will be investigating exploring the complexity of systems discovering how things work testing communicating collaborating and refining all I having a lot of fun when CCF contacted us to let us know that an angel don't play spaces to enhance the design thinking program through this generous donation our makerspaces are being outfitted with multiple systems that teach problem-solving coding programming and design like a Kota WindTunnel Dash and Dot programmable robots bloxels Piper kits flybrix crash friendly Thrones Makey Makey invention kits I didn't make that up CIP circuit blocks and Squishy circuits the opportunity to use this technology will be empowering and will demystify the notion that high-tech is beyond the grasp of chow this experience will help create solutions to problems in the future that we cannot even imagine yet and will inspire this next generation of creative leaders this very generous donation and ccef support of the makers design thinking program shows are communities dedication to its students as we equip them with the skills to lead them to their Bright Futures thank you so much for your donation that is making such a positive impact and children's lives that's for the makerspaces and then from the robotics coach dear Anonymous donor thank you for your timely and generous gift to the school district the donation to the high school robotics could not have come at a more important time for us last fall we had to reboot the team with almost no funding and place we needed immediate support to buy tools and materials and register for the annual first competition enabled us to buy and replace tools we needed register for competition and buy materials to begin our competition work on January 6th we are now able to focus on designing and building this year's robot with less time needed worried about fundraising in addition to these immediate needs your gift will be used to help pay for students who cannot afford the trip to the regional competition this spring the high school robotics team has reached a record high. numbers in his 18-year history we are hoping the new makerspaces being created in the elementary schools will result in more robotics teams so then maybe this opportunity for all district kids to experience as the prime game teams we're seeing more experienced kids coming to the high school team which means we are raising the caliber of our knowledge and expertise we have a wish list of equipment for future expansion of our resources and hope to use some of your gif elevator capabilities through adding new tools such as a CNC milling machine and welding equipment with the loss of shop classes there are few opportunities for our kids to work Hands-On to build physical your code to remotely control objects and learn about using a wide range of tools and software packages these kids are learning in valuable skills and teamwork and Engineering thanks to your very generous we can continue to offer this kind of experience and even expand in the future thanks so American citizenship Awards thank you president on layer and members of the board at this time we would like to recognize our students for this month's American citizenship Awards as we have on as we do this monthly American citizenship award program is designed to recognize students who consistently exhibit the kinds of behavior we want to see displayed in our schools and in our communities so examples of this Behavior include participating in school and your community service showing up have attitude toward classmates school and Community displaying an understanding and appreciation of civic responsibility possessing strength of character and the courage to do what is right and promoting citizenship with school or community Through the other so at this time superintendent Lockhart will start with her Group K El Marino schools American citizenship award goes to Amelia Horton Amelia Amelia is a model that demonstrates a great passion for learning she takes on any test is given to her with great enthusiasm and goes above the expect ations her cheerful demeanor and smile always puts everyone in a great mood in the classroom you can count on her to set an example for the rest of the class she is creative and enjoy sharing ideas with her peers Amelia is a great facilitator as she always encourages everyone to participate and share ideas as well she is a good everyone and initiates insightful conversations with both adults and peers we're lucky to have a model citizen like Amelia and RL Marino Community congratulations Amelia El Recon schools American citizenship award goes to Richard Lopez accepting me Richard is a kind student his desire to learn is exemplary when facing a difficult challenges he has in Reading never gives up and wants to prove that he is able to do whatever is necessary to become a great reader Richard loves me challenge and how the best attitude Richard was also chosen for young storytellers this is where he gets help from an adult to run a story and then actors act out his story there isn't enough that can be said about the student if he keeps his positive and persevering attitude he will be able to me or do anything he wants congratulations Richard Bergen schools American citizenship award goes to Alexis coffee we are so proud to honor Alexis Azar American Citizenship Award recipient for Farragut Alexis stand out as one of our school student leaders and her participation in student council she actively organizes and participates in our monthly school spirit days takes seriously her role and monitoring safety in the hallways and is always supportive of students in and out of classroom as a natural leader and teacher Alexis is favorite during kindergarten 5th grade. Budding time her dedication to the school is exemplified in her positive attitude and willingness to help others congratulations Alexis La Manana school's American Citizenship Award could not be here tonight but we still want to make sure to introduce to recognize him and that goes to Daniel Via Real how long is a positive young man who is regularly has a smile on his face from the start of the school day to the end Daniel is a student who is kind caring supportive and honest although he is Nutella by on his fifth grade class this year manage to make friends with his peers and he has one over the adults at the school not only does Daniel possess a kind heart and warm Spirit he's also student with a strong work ethic he challenges himself daily on a based on a daily basis to go further and deeper into he tried his best with every task he's handed and is willing to help his classmates when they encounter similar struggles to his own finally we are proud of Daniel for becoming a student who advocates for himself and for others it's a pleasure to know Daniel so happy that he's joined the lobby on a family this year we will miss you next year Daniel but we know that CCMS will be lucky to have you thanks for being an amazing part of Love Ayana Pride Liberty High School's American citizenship award goes to gumma or Gemma Geometry Dash let's give a random Donna is a Greater Atlanta how this year Gemma is serving as our fifth grade green seat representative on student council as the Green State Representative Gemma has shown great responsibility regularly making announcements at morning assembly and leading all committees in the classroom Gemma is enthusiastic about learning and Exhibits strong work habits Jenna serves as a great role model to her peers and tore a younger bike games congratulations Gemma Culver City Middle School's American citizenship award goes to Cheney seedo we are so proud of I have Chaney on our campus she's a conscientious young lady who has a heart of gold Cheney is a stellar student who not only works hard in class for herself but also strives to lift up others she's humble and is never in search of the even though she's a shining star in all areas Cheney is also a cherished member of our ASB group she's the type of leader who was a true go-getter and is always asking what else she can do to help instead of waiting to be told what to do in addition to excelling in academics she's an ex exceptional athlete in volleyball and competitive skiing we are certain that Cheney has a bright future ahead of her and she will find success in whatever she chooses to pursue congratulations Chaney Culver City High School has three American citizenship Awards tonight for Muhammad Khan Fatima Malik and Houma mantra Muhammad Fatima in Houma represent the voice of our Muslim Students at cchs Muhammad and Fatima are Copa students of the Muslim Student Association is in ASP and served on the prom committee last year what are the potential problem arose while playing this year's prom date who expressed her concern about prom being during Ramadan Android to share information with the NSA Muhammad and Fatima had an open dialogue with the school administration and spoke of their members to come up with a compromise this led to the high school and District admin state of teams visiting the King Fahad mosque to discuss supporting our Muslim Students cchs is proud of Muhammad Fatima in Houma for exemplifying the Centaur pillars of responsibility and citizenship we are proud to present them this month's American Citizenship Award congratulations to all three of you and Clover Park High School Citizenship Award goes to Christopher Garcia I guess it couldn't be here cover Park High School is pleased to nominate senior Christopher for this month's award his assistance with the in location of the vertical garden has been invaluable and he even brought his own gardening gloves from home for used in the project he is also helpful the teachers and students in the classroom and it has to be the first to proactively explain assignments to others describing Chris Allstaff use adjectives like polite respectful and mature the more than that he is seen as an Exemplar of commitment and follow-through and attribute value highly a cover Park Chris's work with our partner actors gang he distinguish himself by stepping into character and even into the costumes Chris is also a ranked Judo practitioner and an avid history buff decided that he wants to pursue a career as a history teacher and is making inroads to that pathway already having signed up to take SATs and classes at West LA College after he completes his course is it cover Park this year congratulations I was eyes open didn't work sorry got to do it again hey don't forget to call the boring stuff closet door so you don't hear your conversations all right we're going to move right along 2 item a public recognition superintendent's report good evening at first I'd like to start off by recognizing the high school today we Robert Tracy and Kelly and I attended the planning for the March 14th student walkout that I think is happening Nationwide and what I'd like to interrupt actually Police Department was there are security director is there teachers counselors other students are interested it was a great collaborative meeting where we come together to figure out what's the best way for our students to be able to express themselves had a positive and proactive when it was a great meeting and what I'd like to say is I can mend the students for actually kind of allowing us to come in and collaborate with them and the fact that they want to make sure that not only are their voices heard they also want to make sure that they're there student their peers are safe as well so I just you know they didn't have to include us they didn't have to plan a walk out you know there are some people who are just going to just go out there and and maybe not necessarily be as positive as we want them to be but I have to say that our students were really just focused on the task at hand and making sure that the community and the state and the government here is there voice along with all the voices that are going to speak on that day so that's the first thing also for the community March 6th we will be having a student set safety our shop in place of our normal Workshop that we have it will be at Glen Howell 6:30 we have it on our website that would be a great time for parents community how they will be talking about the Run hide fight protocol as well as an offering information this is going to be kind of an ongoing conversation that we will continue to have not only with their Police Department for with our school Community as well we attended the Sandy seagull Help Center event where they were mr. Jim Clark is out there in the audience I see and this is their yearly fundraiser I think that it was a roast to mr. Clark so he truly is a good natured person cuz I think they roasted pretty well throughout the evening so I hope that that was beneficial for the health center and that always brings awareness to all the great work that they do those kind of powerful testimonial that one of the people ask about that night so as far as what the health center meant to their family I really appreciate them sharing that information Miss Melonie Mac and I had a meeting with Amazon Studios I appreciate the fact that they in and they like to be good neighbors and we say yes yes you can be good neighbors and here's a list of 50 different things that you can do that will prove that you were good neighbors to us and said it was just a nice opening conversation I'm just I'm really enjoying working with Melanie for that she's going to be great for the Ed Foundation right now Edwin of course from ASP is not here with us this evening he is at the high school because having their first cover tox which is their version of TED Talks so they have students and staff actually participating in it and this evening they're filming it for us so that we will be able to see it apologize for the fact that it's the same night but I hope this is something that they do on a regular basis because I think that once again going back to student voice and how important is students are I think they tried out and an audition audition for the right to speak I really want to see that video I think it would be great jonique Burton is actually one of the speakers so yes and then also congratulations two girls water polo CIF Champions is Idaho what does like historical correct on the first unprecedented and then I hear and I'm at where we inviting them next time we certainly are yes we are and I think girls basketball I her went on to overtime overtime overtime but they also made it a few rounds and so proud of that I had another interesting meeting with an organization called Landon and thank you to see 11 for helping facilitate this meeting in this is an organization that helps staff members be able to purchase homes in the communities at they work in by helping them with the down payment which is incredible because they have non-profit donations to help with it's a great thing so we would like to be able to offer that to our staff I think that's it thank you thank you alright well go back to my last Thursday evening it was the event of the week this of course I'm talking about the District spelling bee competition am I really actually thought that the final wouldn't never produce there we would never get a winner we had over I think we have like 30 words that we're going back and forth back and forth until finally we had Christopher Allen a sixth grader at Culver City Middle school and I he Prevail with the word and I cannot Escape me right now but it was it was such a fun evening there were definitely words there that I had to spell out and I wasn't so sure if it had a double summer a cc and these kids just just knock it out of the park so it's just always a fun night where I found these can come together and celebrate these academic strengths of a fun competitive environment and I have to say that I'm just kids were great this year they they really persevered and even if they got eliminated I could really see a a difference in a better rate and environment in which they were okay with with getting out so I do want to thank the the sites for encouraging that kind of risk-taking on our students behalf and for them to be able to get through that so I thought it was a great event and a huge strength Define Shriver Family Foundation for sponsoring that event yet again for us and then Friday after that it we had a great little mixer put on by ccef I wanted to thank the CCF for putting together a parent tonight I'm at one of the edge at best Stewart's house who is it the director of the president of the CCF and a number of parents were there to kind of get to know executive director melon knocking and superintendent Lockhart and I and where they're on hand to just kind of mingle and talk about our shared goals and I thought it was a really great way for the community to get to know Melanie and I'm looking forward to more of those events and then I also want to thank the parents who attended last week's parent meeting at the middle school regarding the acceleration options for students and Science and and languages I wanted to kind of love everybody know that that meeting we had a good crowd there we had a great teacher Erica young principal LCBO director secondary teaching and learning Lisa Michelle and I were there and we were definitely there to assure our come in to acceleration options and making sure that we have options for our students to access higher levels of Science and language courses in high school and we also the same time acknowledged our poor communication roll out that information so we definitely want to assure parents that written Communications and a better strategy for informing and bringing stood on parents in on the decision making will happen at an earlier time and then finally this week on Thursday State superintendent of schools Tom torlakson will be honoring 46 middle schools in California that have been selected as high-performing schools to watch these model schools have been selected through a rigorous application process that demonstrate academic Excellence social equity and responsiveness to the needs of young Adolescent and I'm very proud to announce that Culver City middle school will be in Sacramento receiving one of those honor so it's a huge deal principal via Franca and assistant principal Marcus and will be there on hand to receive the honors on Saturday I will be there on Thursday at the luncheon with the superintendent of the state superintendent to receive the recognition at the at the ceremony so so very proud to bring home an award for the comfort Culver City Middle School thank you we had a meeting last Wednesday the community budget advisory committee if you're not aware we're working on increasing participation in these meetings both from the committee where's themselves in from community members who may be interested this Kenny can really play an important role as we move ahead in managing The District budget so we want to make sure that everyone is represented at those meetings that should be represented that's kind of where are our efforts are right now our next meeting will be on April 11th after spring break calendar scheduling and planning of dawn projects for this summer is coming together as you know we've had four campuses that are basically going to be is the middle school high school Farragut nail Rincon so we've been making arrangements to relocate all the programs that normally operate on those campuses to other available rooms in sites around the district and I'd like to also personally Felisha Cooper for her work with West LA College she worked with them and arrange for classroom space on their campus to host our high school summer school classes so that took a big weight off of Austin really made things a lot easier for us so we want to make sure to reach out to them going forward to and then this coming week Sunday is the screenland 5K I'm very much looking forward to that it was a blast last year so we're going to have some fun and raise some money as we casually stroll down street with my friends on the purple team here so I'm looking forward to that on Sunday and that's all I have thank you thank you alright are student representative reports Sofia Miller good evening board so I'd start off to say that the 7th graders are going on their 7th grade Retreat a Espeon web got to go on it just to test it out for them and it's really nice experience has water bonding and just has a really nice message 6th graders are also going on their Beach field trip and 8th graders will have their College field trip coming up soon and if he does also got a presentation from high school counselors about course they can take him out movie meeting with our high school counselor soon to sign up for such classes which is really great and then on March 7th asb's hosting a 90s workout day and then March 14th of course if you guys help the whole school gets to do walk out. Everyone has to participate but they can if they like to so we thank you a lot for that today at lunch soon some teachers met up to figure out how we can make it better or funner and just safer and a more school environment can walk out and Social Studies classes has offs also had a discussion on the topic so that students know what they're walking out for and why it's 17 minutes and such like that and then also multicoat all events are happening their hosted by mr. Brown this year last year ESP did it but this year it's all our counselor mrbrown so is he wants to thank him for that and that's it thank you thank you mr. Panos and members of the audience it's always it's always a pleasure to be here and yesterday we had a staff member explain to us about the Rope course and what to expect and who they are at the Dosey don't know what that is Miss diamanti almost did a donors choose to help my lovely students do crazy stunts some ways to team bonding and struggles and overcoming fears and overcoming life struggles basically and I want to thank everyone for donating and to encourage you to ICS and on Thursday we will be going to the Wallace theater sing the flying lovers of respect I think and it's a play based on Marc Chagall the artist who was very Optimus when is Iron which seems very interesting next week is a new start of a third semester and a couple of of our seniors will be leaving which I will missed because Clover Park High School Oak Park continuation school we're kind of like a family and that's what I really do love about her school next week next Thursday we finished on Mini documentary on artworks LA and we will be going to the Japanese American Museum which our team was based on the Japanese American war and the idea of monument and memory which I really do hate to look forward to and the last thing is that this might might not be my last day due to recent events and I really appreciate you guys and I really do appreciate the people right next to me push me to do my best and that's it in my report thank you. I hope that you will be there just just I know I can speak for the board that when we say like we really value our student representatives and you know we are very fortunate to have represents a compared and ready to be here and excited to give the reports and every year we go to California school boards Association conferences in San Diego or San Francisco we see other student members I think we need to bring our students here because they would represent us so well and we're definitely thinking of you know trying to make that happen even this December in San Francisco are you guys provide only half of we're here for you guys were here for you so the fact that you guys are here giving your reports is really meaningful so we help you stay so thank you okay members of the audience I have two cards first one is Miss Hannah Cho followed by we miss Michelle Lyons part of me hi good evening I just want to bring greetings and introduce myself my name is Hannah Cho and I'm the senior field Deputy was Senator Holly Mitchell so I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello to you all I've been trying to leave you all voicemails and emails we all know how that gets caught and lost in the Labyrinth of emails and voice mail kind of you know I kind of think it's a matrix it probably gets lost somewhere but I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello to you all and to you all I am the fields are. Levin and dr. Ken and the superintendent and her her date and some other folks in a marvelous suit Charming yes and was delighted to spend half my weekend helping the proofreading that at the Culver Park High School last report and I'm having a ton of this CCF team meeting today I'm glad Miss Billy that you would mention the House Parties the ccfpd just now going to let us know when they occurrence and has also asked that we help do Outreach at the various sites to help find some the hose for some of these informal smaller House Parties we can you don't just get in touch with Melanie or when your bath I guess and maybe help them out a little bit maybe you'll send us in an email kind of spelling that out a little bit I'm finishing the other thing I'm going to do which I what to do but I am compelled to do is I'm going to try to read the names of the folks who lost their lives on Highway 14 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida Douglas herself was a amazing woman amazing activist and and Community member obviously so well regarded as to have a school named after her but at an amazing environmentalist and activist that just happened at her school site is just one sad piece of this whole story but I like hiking in download their memory I'm going to read their names Alyssa all day stage 14 Scott bagel age 35 Marmaduke and we know the age 14 necklace dorit age 17 FS in Florida Orlando and nothing has happened after call him by to nothing has happened after it's something's got to happen analog it has to do with changing who is deciding yes or no on gun control so it behooves all of us anyone who is turning 18 or who is 18 or over to be registered to vote in to get out about an urge every every citizen you know to get out to vote to make the change that we need to see in this country so that our kids are safe in their schools that are poor pictures are safe in their places of worship that were safe to go to the movies or nightclub or a mall or anywhere bagged the robot this past week and what that means is competition is coming up soon to be ready to drive everybody to pay attention and water dedicated as I would have liked to see you so I hope we can work on that a little bit I know they were competing events and the weather wasn't great as well as camp meeting fundraiser was a lot of fun and a lot of important work I know we had a good time at fundraiser but it's also really important to think about what we were raising money for and some of the work they do is relevant to school safety as well because includes mental health as well as physical I got a group of teachers from and see if we can finish it I know some of ours to see what teachers bunch of open houses so I just barely arrived LAX a couple hours before the meeting let me know and then finally summer and I have been working on a note about school thing Christian Health and Welfare of the students in a little bit painter new summer so I'll get to what Steve just mentioned first I headed to the very tell end of the High School open house I realize the high school does not stay as long as the elementary or the middle school they were like out of there pretty quickly I missed most of it I was going to PT board but I did make it to the AV PA sound screening for the six films that are students in a vpa film program produced directed filmed edited everything the whole 9 with their partnership with Sony and it covered everything that they're so creative they're so talented and they're really Brave the students who made these videos because it's address gender and identity an ethnicity but it also covered weird things happen at prom with like the prom Slayer and and scary mirrors friend of a gamete and it was a lot of fun and it made me really proud to see the work that our students work so hard on and I just want to thank them for sharing their their gifts with and thanks Tony for partnering with us again to give our students the space to share their gift yeah just speaking to what Steve mentioned it is something that struck me when I was watching the news report yet again just seeing another incident at a school and hearing the names of of the kids and while watching it I'll be completely honest with you I got to the point where I said you don't I want to be as angry as one of those parents who lost their children and I want to do whatever I think I would do with that anger and do whatever that anger compelled me to do to make sure that this doesn't happen and it's hard to put yourself in that position because I'll never hopefully none of us will ever know the anger and frustration and sadness they're feeling but if we could sort of built that up and at first you feel powerless right Ashley you you feel like there's nothing you can do until you realize the power you do have and when you sit on that power then they've won but when you take that power and you move forward with it and you press the press the long and and use whatever you can to make changes then you've taken the power back from them and so I reached out to Steve because I did want someone else to bounce this off with I wanted someone who could help work through the process and give me a you know some to help me get some clarity on some of the ideas that I had Steve is a better board member I'm brand new so I wanted his his support in this and the sing We would like to propose at a future board meeting is at resolution for the board's consideration to address school safety and more than just setting up parameters to keep these things outside of our school I like you know security and metal detectors that people have talked about all of these things you can you can set those up but it's what's going on inside of the school that we really need to address we have to be able to figure out what's going when are students Minds that may make them feel like they're not a part that they're not being accepted that they have to resort to any kind of violence on this scale or on a on a smaller scale and Steven I've been working on the resolution this is our effort at being proactive and starting a conversation and being really intentional about it it's meant to be an impetus for us to reevaluate what we're doing in this District just to share with you I did see research and we are listed on a very reputable website on niche.com where we identified as the now V Multiverse School District in the nation where listeners the tent spaces District in the state of California which is really good that's a lot that we can be proud of but even being 10 to save a school district in the nation we have to make sure that we are meeting our students need their emotional needs their mental health needs we have Partnerships with the Sandy seagull Health foundation and we have school psychologist and we have all of these other supports but is there more we can do that's the point of the resolution and from the resolution we will be request and I'll talk to Leslie about it I work shop to address student health and wellness and have a larger conversation to dig in deep and see not only how we can provide more support but also how we can promote those words that we have in place to our families to our community to let them know they're here because we saw with are incredible high school students who did the PSA for suicide awareness they were able to tap into where is where maybe none of us even knew that it was that bad and the students who were on the other side that don't know what services are there so we have to reach out to them we can expect them to come to us so I'm looking forward to continuing to work with Steve on the resolution and working with the other board members on passing it and and the cabinet moving forward with some some new ideas that we can bring it to this district and just one more thing like Kathy said we have power this midterm election is one of the most important midterm elections in a long time 435 seats are up in the house we can change the course of this nation and that one day we're not going to wait until November there's things we can do now but we can change the course donation in that one day there are think 36 students were election happening this year in 2018 one of them is right here in California we have to be honest with ourselves and say it got to this place because we allowed it to happen and just start when you have a presidential election it starts at the local level and we have to be really purposeful about making decisions coming out to the polls using our power and making sure that we can say we've done everything we could Number One support our students and number to make sure that we can really be proud of this country thank you thank you talk to Kent all right following all this deep deep work we're all doing I'm going to keep it relatively light so I did a 10 to Sandy Segal youth Health Center fundraiser on Saturday where we honored / roasted Jim Clark sitting in the audience and here he is doing the very thing that I acknowledged him for that evening which is coming to our board meetings because so few actually do thank you and that was a really fabulous and I and we played a lot of silly games and had a lot of fun and all in the name of raising money for this very important organization which could stand to still get some more support so I hope we do find some more sustainable sources of support. they did also have a big fat check given to them that night from The Exchange Club which gave them 10000 smackers which was pretty fabulous and there are really generous organization in our city so they deserve to be thanked an acknowledged play attended the District spelling bee along with Miss pamilya on the superintendent and it was my first so yeah that was stressful for me and I know you want to hear how it was for me got the students know it really it was very stressful intense and my daughter is the worst speller in the K through 5 so she was only there to support her friends but I hadn't been a sip of and it's really it's very impressive I am very proud of our schools for promoting a culture where we're willing to take these sort of risks and and yeah I sat in between a couple principles and cried and they rubbed my knee and said this is preparing them for great challenges later in life and so I realize that there are going to be greater stress depressed I did go to an oilfield meeting in addition to dr. Levin's meeting at the Baldwin Hills cap on Thursday I went to the Inglewood oil field meeting on Wednesday that the city hosted to brief some community members the process where they're getting comments on their environmental impact report Lord the attendees at this point are so ornery be the nature of this material is so complicated and so what I walked away with in addition to learning a ton is that what I'm looking forward to is our community in particular the ccusd community family man students and so forth getting involved after the ER. Because the IR. Is so daunting the wall of technicality is so large that I think it leaves community members dissatisfied because it's so hard to stand but there is going to be this incredible. After March 14th where we can still really be part of the process in the decision-making and speak in front of council and go to other community members after that point and have regular people conversations and regular people questions including about a recent asthma report that came out talking about the increased incidence of asthma around urban oil fields and and really other important questions that we should ask on behalf of our students and so on that note the superintendent will be sharing a four-page brochure that the city made thank you very much I'm summarizing some of what's going on around them, to impact report in both English and Spanish and the city is paying for the Spanish translation which is a big deal and we really appreciate that so and at that point I think we'll try to drum up some more community and put from specifically ccusd folks Dimensions all district music concert or did we already so what was the white light blinking on the song True Colors it was beautiful we had our all-district music concert and is only the second annual one and it's so moving because it's K through 12 and it just how the vocal instructor can manage to have all these drugs sing together and they've never practiced in the same room various sites and and you know between the Middle and the high school bands and the chamber orchestra is just really and soloists we have a beautiful district and our music program is growing and thriving and I am extremely impressed every year I'm really looking forward to that being an annual tradition and the true colors was the closing song and it's so moving to be able to all together all 7000 students to really honor and Ike knowledge the important evaluating everybody and in all of our difference and being authentic to who we truly are finally I will be attending with fulcrum ropes course on tooth and I'm really nervous but it's going to be great and I'm going to overcome fears and I'm going to work out some traumas and I have nothing it's going to be really important then I look forward to that thank you so much for having me thank you it sounds like next Tuesday I will be instagramming dr. Ken to doing all Chrome rope course for all to witness looks like we had a busy week all of us last couple weeks last week I also attended the High School open house and not having any high school students I frantically around looking for the bake sale Orange realize I guess they don't have the high schools anymore so bad food trucks there more savvy I did get to go into the ceramic studio and watch students in action which was very cool I'm at Studio is such an amazing space I just to see the students you know crafting are Pottery there I'm being in it it's just really awesome easy parents we would lit up and just so appreciative of it also attended the Ed foundation house party last week which was fun was really about parents coming together to become more it wasn't an Ask party so it wasn't a fundraiser it was just a way just want to learn how to become more educated about with Ed Foundation does how to sort of go out and buy a bigger a Ambassador or advocate play Ed foundation and sort of get groups of parents to kind of spread that information out to others I know that when new parents come in the district reason when you've been here a while it's hard to know what the Ed Foundation what they provide what they do so the more we can get current local sites to kind of do that and spread the word I know you can only mean more $85,000 checks for us so we'll continue those look forward to those I attended the special education District advisory meeting with the FBI was yesterday and there were three of those meetings right now a year these are fairly new not sure if 3 is enough just yet I'm not for fear asking for more meetings cuz Lord knows I don't want to ask for more and maybe maybe Worth or value to increase those while we ramp up our Communications in our parent involvement in that they will have some upcoming parent workshops one is on March 21st Wednesday March 21st and that will go through the IEP process and supporting special needs students through preschool elementary middle and high school transitions unfortunate also the same night as open house we know that's an issue so hopefully we can work around that or get parents we need to go it won't be the last one they are going to have more of those and do follow-ups and then the next one is April 17th techniques reading and math skills development at home all those are listed on the website of anyone's asking they are on our ccusd website with the dates in a little description of location we are looking for more parent rap settings are at minimum ideal to have a parent and teacher rep in each site so we can get crossed up you know to divorce her visitation so if you know of anyone and that might want be part of that are district administrators no then also joined Miss Lockhart and dr. One A3 the superintendent shall receive 22 days of paid vacation leave annually unused vacation days in excess of 40 Shelby cash out the end of each fiscal year for the superintendent shall receive one day per month of paid sick leave and leave of absence in accordance with foreign policy 5 the district show pay the superintendent's membership dues in professional and service organizations as specified in the contract 6 the board of the lab right to terminate the contract with or without cause in the event of termination without cause the superintendent shall be entitled to continue receiving salary and benefits for. world it is a leader in global economy and yet we ranked 45th nationally as far as what we spend on education we have been funding our schools at the most up to the 2007 limit at our lcff we have 58% of our California public schools are eligible for free and reduced lunch 13 percent above the national average and 23% of our California students are English Learners more than twice the national average California fund there's California friends are schools at 1961 per student left then and now average which is about $3,462 per student and where the top top top states are finding their students at $7,000 per student so this Crawford full and fair funding of California Public Schools is our way of saying that you cannot ask for a billion-dollar Returns on a penny yes I would like to move to approve this phone for funding resolution hi any discussion I just want to say that I'm glad we are jumping at this opportunity because this sends a message when a resolution is not taken legal action it doesn't change our policy but it's us sending a message to the state and it's not just Culver City School District this was a resolution drafted by the cspa which means their districts all throughout the state of California that are making the same decision to push the resolution to make send a message to State of California that we want to do better by our students and we want you to do better by us we want the state to do better by the district since we have more than where we required to do with less so this is just an effort in that thank you Steve probably but we passed order and so that is now order so that lullaby on a siblings will be giving preference and selected first and the the groups have been reordered to also reflect the discussion that we had basically that at code states that District can give preference to sibling Tulu Deccan currently enrolled so that's how that started and that's now a letter a and then sibling applicants of my Leona alumni who reside in a c c u s d cool which also reflects board policy about a concurrent enrollment in any ccusd school is also being provided at a different level here only because lava has an attendance boundary and so we have to we have to delineate those two markers on there and then I'm applicants who reside within love and his attendance boundaries are then brought in of course we're talking that that's where the bulk of the students come in because A and B are really a smaller portion of students so I think that's what we discussed last time I move it to be District employees and how to clarify did clarify that that enrollees who are employed parents who are employed by Culver City Unified School District are now at letter e I'm as opposed to being at leather age or at letter A which anti-discrimination that references District policy but the contract language as written does not reflect the current board policy language and unfortunately we didn't catch that time before we posted
