firmly I want to end my statement tonight with one final apology and request that we all take a deep breath and move forward with some trust some understanding of the poor and the senior administrators here tonight about every every single child is in this District we are doing the very best we can to meet the needs of all of our students within the constructions placed upon us by the states under finding our budget in the budget of every school district in this entire State and despite these we will continue to do our very best we can for every student and every site within this District as we have been for as long as I've been on this board and even more so now with this cabinet we are so committed thank you thank you for listening summer I don't have a lot to say I kind of said it earlier than 5 o'clock meeting I want to thank and the staff I want to thank the teachers and the staff and all of the family that came out to address that to tell us your truth because that's the only truth that really matters when it's our kids that are concerned and want to see her I want to thank you for that and I want to thank you for you sharing your concerns with us and trusting us to work with you collaboratively and honestly to fix the problem we can't deny the struggle and we can't deny that there are a lot of inadequacies that we need to address now but I don't want you to fear telling us your truth so when you feel like you're not able to hold this four-door District accountable you need to speak up and you need to let us know and you do not need to be intimidated in any way to not be able to speak your truth and any Ford any board member any Cabinet member worth our weight will listen to what you have to say and we will consider it and we will work with you to fix your concern so I just want to thank you I know I don't really have anything else to say but I just want to thank you speaking your truth I do want to start by thanking everyone again for coming in speaking and I won't try to follow this to drive, so I I did just in my own way want to offer that you know we we are only as good as we are at as we are going to be because you guys keep showing up and making your voice is heard and that's that is absolutely our current truth so not we also are having a workshop on June 5th can you guys not hear me okay we're having a workshop on June 5th that is discussing the multi multi-tiered system of support and inclusive practices so I think this will be an opportunity to get into the nitty-gritty of some of the suggestions you guys were making ice off. this is this is a process you guys are part of that process please come on June 5th and we will do this some more and we will Wrangle someone and earlier I was just saying to show up and then I do want to report just a couple of items including that this word treat on Sunday and work together for the day and we did some strategic planning and one thing that our assistance send it out to all of us sometimes in moments of Crisis we can forget that were most of us are really new but we have an amazing full pledge team now for the first time some months and maybe longer depending on how you look at it and so we're going to be really powerful and we're going to do great things and so our future is absolutely bright and we're doing that hard work through right now so part of that hopefully strategic planning work which we did together on Sunday is based on his study that you can look up call the lighthouse study but it just talks about that the highest achieving districts are those reports and cabinets trust each other and as a team all members are working towards and not that is what that's the work that we were doing on Sunday and we need to steam along with you know at the leadership at the Helm of the superintendent card and the board we are working for an access and equity for every single it was not only a theme throughout that day you have to know that it was brought up as an as the focus point of everything okay so this this is where heart and soul is right it's always weird to transition I went to The Lion King on Friday at La bayona and I just but it was so incredibly it's super fun to cry even when it's not your kid absolutely I'm so proud of our kids just called thing is that it was really evidence. Night and what time proud of about work and so that was on The View and then finally I just have a business thing to take care of so it's so so dr. Levin and I are on a subcommittee of this board that pays attention to the Inglewood oil field because we live right next to the second largest I think Urban Active oil drilling rig and so to Culver City to City of Culver City wants to request to be included in a study of air quality around neighborhood surrounding Inglewood oil field but word Culver City's only 10% of the oil field so there lots of neighborhood surrounding oilfield this study is called the study of neighborhood are near petroleum source is the abbreviation acronym is snap and Hoover city is not presently part of it but the city of Culver City wants to request to be included in this study to meet seems to think absolute send and so they want their request to be strong and supported by all the stakeholders so I'd like to request that this agendize at our next meeting that we could draft a letter to the superintendent would sign just simply in support of the city's request alright see you and Kelly just said and that is always seems to come up with things like that then your deadlines are concerned about whether we can act our put it on her next feeding and low-fat and make it official whether that will be useful so I want to point out that individual board members not as representatives of the board selves that doesn't isn't subject to burn out of having to wait till the next meeting so if you hear you keep your ears open for the possibility that in which case we just do the best we can and consider what you want to do Craigslist okay think what I'm going to do is try so sweet you say really glad to see that Frost is almost almost there call we do a lot of things in the District hard 2.81 and say this is more important than the other and of course there are things that are more important than the other things are more important than having you know really great Auditorium but it's also true that relief valuable to the community to have that is mean something to Hope full section of our community as well and I'm glad to see that finally happening pulling out that this past week last week I gave for public science talks because I'm a scientist my day job and to La Astronomical Society of Griffith free to the general public at jet propulsion lab and the general public at Pasadena City College and to 100 fifth graders in Culver City Unified School District at Farragut Elementary and I got two hands down Far and Away the most fun was talking to the 5th grade class at at Target they have the best questions they were the most interested they were clearly there to learn I'd love to do that by the way I'm talking about I already this year but we might go back just just wanted to point out the real reason we're all involved with education or you can get rid of headaches when you're doing anything even something as small as that didn't mean something that has value list of things to help you out what first the board retreat so we had a board retreat on a Sunday which I think was really die Bully part of the people talk about that already it's always it's the groundwork to be able to do our job and it points out to me one of the things that points out to me is I'm always feeling impatient about all the stuff we want to get done but they haven't gotten done and it seems like the pace is really slow but sometimes it kind of has to be really slow do have to build the foundation first to make it work and we saw some things we talked about some things but how we work together it made me realize that you know by not having address those things earlier there were some things that didn't work that would have worked if we take it on time to the foundation's right that applies to a lot of this stuff partly because of the brown act and partly because of the reasons behind the brown Act a lot of issues over the two years that I've been on the board not just the last week that come up with people are very very passionate about an important issue come to the board with a whole lot of of impassioned logical sometimes contradictory important message and we're left with we're not ready to deal with that we didn't put it on the agenda can't take an action we don't have a specific action that we're supposed to take we're talking at the board level and some of it needs to be done way down at the teacher or the principal work for the administrative level the cabinet level I think that part of what we are finally learning is we need to set some of those processes in do it in a way where we can use all of that energy and have it really move us in the right direction in and benefit from it that's supposed to feeling like it's sort of bouncing off the walls because it was happening on the Run play one of these we talked about at the workshop at the retreat was having more board workshops or targeted in advance so that we could have stuff on the agenda and we do we're not ready but we're ready to talk about and can get the public involved so I want to urge the people were here to pay attention to those see what the word schedule is we've already talked Sunday but how we're going to try and have that schedule a little bit further in advance and have it out some people know which things are coming down the pike and to watch for the date so you might know that there's going to be a workshop on some topic you really care about that we don't know the date yet but say it's in it worth in September if you wash it and find out get all our ducks in a row okay turned out to be this particular day I'm hoping we're going to go to make that work and get more beneficial involvement from the public I'm going to use that to mention a few things that some of them things we've got the emails about that I want to make sure you get on our list and some of them are things I'm interested in my want to ask that as we put together that list of workshops we have one on teenagers sleep late we already have one on special ed related issues by want to ask that you try to lay out of schedule cuz we're going to need more than one start thinking about what the next step is after that with that together is a plan and I'm sure this is not a surprise. I just want to make sure it's going to take more than one to work the budget we don't have the luxury of saying you left just definitely spend forever and at the same time the fact that we need to save money cannot be an excuse for not doing the right things so we need to have extend discussions about where we can take money and what it will cost us that's not dollars when we do that how we can raise money I set our priorities where we can look for efficiencies those two because I guarantee you any change we make this $8 and it cost us something in some area so it's about priorities in and all of that but want to ask that we set up at least a couple of workshops talking about the budget and I think we're ways off from being ready for this but the discussion just now about Inglewood oil field just also we need one of those maybe that's later rather than sooner baby. We have to go look at that schedule and see what the outside world is doing about the Inglewood oil field and whether it is their things where we better have the workshop before this date because that's coming up so I know that's a lot of work try to figure that out and I know you know Leslie cabinet that's a lot of that works going to phone you but I'm asking them to try to figure out a real blend schedule for all of those workshops and I forgot that it won't fit in there okay I'm almost done sorry to take so long I don't know what to say about school shooting in there other than try not to cry I guess what I want to say is we can and should are do all the things that we can do the district locally to work on this issue but huge part of its novel Force and it's important for us also both as a community talking to each other about what and its individual to citizens of this state and this country in the city to recognize that and look at the pieces and say to yourself okay this thing that has to be done is federal I'm going to go work on it forget it I'm not going to put it aside cuz he's big and this piece is something that can be done at the state level and I'm going to do it there and this piece is the city for the district he's not helpful to come and talked mostly about stuff that can't be done by this group or to talk to her friends and Neighbors about stuff that can be done by this group but it but hasn't been organized yet we need to not only have all those emotions but meme to be analytical and we need to be smart about an organized about how we're going to fix this cuz we have to fix this we can't have kids can't think of anything more obvious than you know there's something wrong with your body I did actually have a more in-depth for before they got a little bit sidetracked and emotional but some of you may know that Culver City is partnering with the University of Arizona National Institute for civil discourse on the revised code cities and that effort made possible by our mayor, small I was contacted by the director of provide stability cities holla Hayes and if they're focusing primarily on the Fox Hills City right now so if you live in Fox Hills and if you're interested in being a part of the discussion on Reviving civility in Culver City we know that we are there's a movement that was started hashtag Colbert Colbert but even if we don't get to cover kind of but we can just be civil with each other that be a good place to start and so if you're interested in being a part of this you can go to the Culver City city website and just type in Culver City. Org / the bility and sign up for the alerts and show up for the discussions what do you live in Culver City in Fox Hills neighborhood or not I'm sure they would love to hear your input on that and then send a recorded still here I just want to give a shout out for tomorrow's Multicultural night that trash out from the community and to participate in a multicultural night the teachers student has worked really hard and our principal and other leadership have worked really hard to transform your classroom and our students can visit the classrooms and and basically visit still like that cruise that misfire ski is going to take me to make it tomorrow at all the world on one campus come to El Rincon Del beef tacos for sale and it starts at 5:30 right 5:30 tonight to so my stuff which is May is Asian Pacific American month and that's near and dear to my heart as being an Asian Pacific American went if you didn't not know I'm the first stage of sick American president of school board and we haven't overstay our very first mayor who is Asian Pacific American Americans with students are kind of is a Big Papi and then there's we don't agree is that day that you know you're Asian Pacific American you're lumped into Chinese hi Korean Filipino and so those the average use of that data off of misrepresent the breakdown of what is there how they really performing a job breaking that down I'm interested in looking at more of that see how we can help as soon as you actually think there's a there's a positive stereotype it can be harmful that Asians do well in certain thing that's not always the case because you just look at me stick General averages in The Stereotype so we'll take a look at those cuz that's just something I'm interested in we talked things we talked about was Boulevard teacher planning and we do know that we need to work on a super sport engine valuation tool and I think the csba is has a pilot pilot and they're looking for school districts to be part of pilot and I'm Infinity 1 pursue that I think of that and get back to everyone if you're interested in being a pilot school district for that tool to see if something was up from El Marino formerly known as children could you give me the time for the school to honor you know Traditions music dance from the Japanese culture in the Spanish culture in Mexican culture was always adorable to watch Acosta Mother's Day so happy Mother's Day give those who are mothers stepmothers on teams are grandmothers that act as mothers friends I did not grow up in my biological mother so I recognize a lot of women as a mother rolls in my life and I appreciate all the type of mother to act in that role I'm going to courage attendance the board workshops again as Steve mentioned sometimes when you guys come up with comments we may be more harder but it's just a real liefeld handcuffed to be really can't respond we don't know what to respond for trying to engage and have more study session 2 Workshop so that we can have more open dialogue because I have to follow very strict Robert's Rules 4matic agenda so we have more discussions with trying to get those done so we don't buy like brown actress well some of the movie presentation Style I really thought for the patient from other departments which gives little less talk to me really is not a chew in a public necessarily and some of them will be real study sessions or just passing through stuff you wanted to see our discussion going on live I guess you're very exciting and the last thing is the friends of a Sandy seagull youth Health Center that is the sort of fundraising arm of the standing tickle yourself in which provide free services to our physical and mental health services for students for new board members they were great Ford in a board that has been there for very long time that we came for new people so if you're interested you can contact dr. Sarah Carpenter who's at the health center over by the high school are we study of us for her kids are off to college and they're thinking of you leaving the school board at the end of their term in any anyone who had the possibly do a lot of grand riding in fundraising it's not super time-consuming to have passion for it by now they changed their meanings the daytime the willing to adjust them if it's another right board members, and they need night time schedule for working in a bit anymore but that's important because they only survive with those three services but they have that fundraising arm there and with that we will recess for 10 minutes thank you did the Raiders win
