forward congratulations there is always polite respectful kind and considerate of others she is an a student who test of strength of character and the courage to do what is right she is an overall amazing student and person we are proud of her keep up the good work congratulations to Leah our next Eden also from El Marino language school max Hernandez not consistently comes to class positive attitude is responsible and kind character is driven by helping others and he always drives to do what is right in terms of social justice Max has a big heart is deserving of this award and we are very proud keep up the great work congratulations Matt next from El Rincon Elementary School we would like to recognize the Leah Coleman Aaliyah is a stellar third grade scholar who is a leader across the campus she is so motivated to learn and looks for ways to increase her knowledge to Leah is always prepared and is happy to offer help you her classmates to lie is reliable and responsible she is a rocket who was a great friend when students needed the most congratulations to Leah congratulations to our next rocket our girlfriend's job congratulations Parker is a heart working a responsible scholar who exemplifies good citizenship is always smiling and quick to say hello if he sees you in the hall when a new student join the class he was quick to step up and be a great friend where is kind helpful and makes those around him feel good congratulations Parker next we have from Farragut Elementary School Lauren Reyes Lauren Lauren is is not here but let's let's speak about Lauren Lauren exemplifies positive citizenship at Farragut Elementary School she is conscientious in her work habits and helpful for her fellow classmates optimistic energy lift everyone she needs to demonstrate leadership among her peers by setting good examples and doing best work each and every day she is an ambassador for our school white Green Team and demonstrate civic responsibility by taking care of our campus and the environment congratulations Lauren next also from Farragut we would like to recognize lydian lyddie wit videos of responsible caring and involved member of our student community at Farragut as a member of student council and a leader of classroom Community circles she goes above and beyond to play her part making fairy get the best it can be litty is a role model in the classroom and holds herself to high standards always putting forth best effort and a positive attitude no matter the challenge congratulations lady our next Citizenship Award winner is School we would like to recognize Aubrey Johnson weather on the yard in the classroom working on reading skills in the literacy lab or at lunch Aubrey Excellence Wherever She Goes is kind and thoughtful to students and adults in the most genuine way she often text in on others to make sure they are doing all right and has a way about her that brings a bright positive light into any conversation she has not only is Aubrey caring and considerate to all she has a spirit and drive within her that helps her tackle and conquer any academic task but in front of her even when something may present as a challenge she asks stock quote which allowed her to clarify and expand her thinking to help her succeed Aubrey is not afraid to do hard things and she knows her attention to detail assisting with the equipment checkout procedures Beyond giving up some of his lunch time to help CCMS it is incredible to see his approach and he exudes so much joy and confidence doing what not mean other students would do during their lunch time Nicolas Cage has grown into a leader at CCMS and we are proud to present him with this award congratulations Nicholas next from Culver City High School we would like to recognize Lexie out of Neo Lexi is always looking for ways to support her classmates are friends she has an enormous heart and a strong sense of Duty to her community and her peers at Culver City High School and I am here to address my concerns on the lack of mental health education within CCISD mental health education maybe things would have I'm sorry can someone please let me allow me to screen share so that I can show the timer I'm going to reset your time we are good so far thank you so much for your patience with us all right if we maybe things would have been different for me I still remember the look on my pants face but I showed them the scars on my body from self-harm Benson regret I felt and still feel but I didn't have any other Outlet I wasn't taught how to manage my stress in those situations to express what was going on inside my mind so I tried to physically show up my mind not express no student should ever have to feel like that I tried to prove it through the Stars it shouldn't have ever gotten to that point and yet it did for me it does for others constantly pushed my limits academically and athletically I recently chose to quit baseball a Sprite and clean my entire life because my mental health is deteriorating I shut up and keep up with the sport at the same time as my academics and as a result my grades started to slip only adding play ongoing stress what I experienced cannot be undone but we have an opportunity to prevent that from happening to others unless we don't have the knowledge or the resources needed to navigate Our Lives to cope with emotions often to suffocating in a world where we are too often silenced should I ask you where you let me some pants just really listen to truly see just for stories or of millions that mean ever or of million that may never be solved in the sky coming to reach out and thank you Q hello board mine is Ariana moss and I'm an 18 year old senior at Culver City High School I've been a student in the Middle School I've also been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and persistent depressive disorder with acute major depression on paper you probably never guess I had these mental illnesses because I hid them so well under Straight A's countless extracurriculars and a bright smile in the hallways however unfortunate a stepparent to recognize and I was struggling apparently took it upon themselves to start seeing a therapist at age 13 and a psychiatrist at 16 parents who could afford these things and could pay out of pocket so I didn't have to spend months on a waitlist have you gone through Insurance not every child has parents like mine if you struggle with mental health as a child or teenager as so many of us have you know better than anyone that reaching out for help on your own is nearly impossible aside from yearly half-hour Suicide Prevention presentations and extremely Limited the mental illnesses in 9th grade health class has all of the resources within pcsd rely on students to take that first step and seeking help and learning how to take care of their minds if my parents had it recognized the signs of anxiety and depression I work so hard I'm not sure if I would be standing in front of here in front of you today mandatory mental health education beginning in kindergarten however it would make it so every child especially those whose parents aren't equipped to take on their heads alone knows how to cope with stressors and reach out for therapy when necessary mental health continues to be unprioritized at school and you bored or the answer to changing that you know better than any of us that education is the answer to 10 all of our futures for the better so I ordered you to think of me think of all of us and implementing compulsory comprehensive mental health education within ccusd thank you for your time and Q if you want the tablet right in front of them so I'm going to call 3 speakers after you if you would just bear with me for one moment they will be Michelle dial Amy Sakamoto Madison Mara go for it high school I thought long and hard about I wanted to share with you guys tonight I thought maybe if I brought statistics or numbers something that I would be concrete or tangible and maybe my message would be much more convincing however I decided to share something that would be rooted and Candor honesty and Frosty at the age of 13 I was prescribed Prozac and not 14 years old 10 mg turn into 20 and then at the age of 16 Prozac turn into Lexapro my days will be limited by the inability to get my bad and a heaviness that would weigh down my heart I need a plea that those around me care for me and loved me however depression seeped into the walls of my soul and hid behind the smiles and laughter the reason why I'm sharing this is so that I can express that my personal Journey is that the issue that associated with mental health cannot be eliminated with temporary solutions such as medication Suicide Prevention presentation and hotline because you see if you want long lasting solutions to end a mental health crisis and those Solutions must address the pre-existing conditions that nurture the multitude of mental health issues in the first place but I'm trying to say is that the reality of mint struggles aren't due to the lack of resources rather it's caused due to the disconnect between me and myself and me and the world around me if I couldn't understand my own mind then how could anyone else and if I couldn't validate my own emotions and how could anyone believe me see me or really communicate with me that was a cycle that were played again and again for years and so now I stand here in front of all of you in hopes of protecting those around me and for the future generation of kids that are still navigating the struggles of this world and their own mine a tulip field adverse effects of disconnected from the realities furthermore I think you your time is up with thank you so much and you can email your comments to us if you don't mind shell yo my name is Rochelle Zell I'm a senior at Culver City High School I first wanted to start off by saying thank you thank you for listening you are all incredibly empathetic people and that's why you're here today and today I wanted to humbly ask for an extension of that kindness mental health is not a new topic we're all exceedingly familiar with it including its bad reputation and mental health brakes are weak childish unproductive that exact mindset that grossly intoxicated us the quicksands of the past my point today is that there's a generational divide my parents are immigrants will work very hard to find a standing with in America they embraced best of our values ross-ade integrity and discipline yet is that same superhero a mother who cannot look me in the eye and say I need to rest as evidenced by the millions of adults who to this day cannot reach out for help you cannot teach empathy overnight if adults with had a years to figure it out tent and how are we kids supposed to the day that emotional vulnerable Play Feels taboo is the day that we lose each other and let me tell you right now as a high schooler who hasn't even face the abrasions of life that my mother already has I don't feel prepared for my future we are stuck you're stuck thinking that strangers are truly strange and stuck with the fact that our only smiles are on our school IDs need to help the students now and that's why I K through 12 curriculum with mint health education as a quarter is so necessary mental health education is not only about learning how to take care of yourself it's the Billy to take care of others which of the defining principle of humanity or numbers just as you've done with countless of other issues we wouldn't okay if I may invite the audience to please give their fullest respect to our students right now and be quiet while they're speaking thank you my name is Eileen Sakamoto and I'm a junior at Culver City High School as students we are taught to sit down don't stand unless you're told to be quiet don't speak unless spoken to be good don't disrupt the status quo or silence is learned it is all we know so in this war not ours to fight alone in our classrooms at home and every fragment and every feeling in our bones we learn to remain silent but not today because today we have students have shown we are no longer willing to plead the fifth we are no longer willing to dismiss this crisis our crisis treated like a crime we no longer have the time to wait to wait it is time for change and we are not asking for more Suicide Prevention presentations Wellness Wednesday social emotional learning or external resources we are asking for the systemic curricular change it has long been a Core Curriculum on mental health education is barely met the bare minimum we all like to say mental health is just as important as physical health but where is this reflected in our schools physical and mental health are inextricably intertwined just like we all need Google help we all need mental help well benefit from learning how to exercise and care for our minds just as we learn how to exercise and care for our bodies so today we are advocating for mental health education to be integrated into physical education within ccusd we are advocating for a committee to create an implement this curriculum never done before in any city state or country just as we were the first to mandate mandate vaccinations in the nation we can be the to set the precedent for what education can and should be by implementing men's health education as a comprehensive compulsory course alongside PE and if you take away anything from the stories that you've heard today it should be this the greatest tragedy was never our silent but the silence surrounding Us in the midst of it all today we as students have stabbed our silence and I hope that you board members respectful and will listen to you even when you've been bad she will always listen to what you said and she say something meaningful back she's not like a normal principle that'll just play something and then ask it like go she's actually a principal that'll keep a conversation going and keep talking to build up the friendship the girl thank you so much Madison okay and I'm realizing okay but it and I'm here to advocate for you to reinstate Paula Saavedra also I'm here because I'm frustrated with the way that you handled letting her go she's an amazing Champion for children and she's a person with an exemplary character and hearts and she has made incredible impact in our school so regardless of the politics regardless of any disclosure of information that you cannot share which I don't really need to know have you heard from Maddie and from Kaia and also I just want to play a video from my son which I SMS Williams to her email so if I'm going to play it for you this is a Roshe the major vacuum cleaner rack Hiroshi is and he wants her back and Paul is willing to come back and we will fight for her to come back and there's 40 more parents who feel the same way and we understand that there's reasons that you can't disclose you don't we don't want that we just want her back she met Dad if and a lot of people feel the same way and I hope that you can find it in your heart to dig a Little Deeper why you took this job in the first place is for that and for them this is why you're paid this is why we're here this is why I'm here is for our students and I understand you guys talk about measure K and this is the auditor for measure k for fiscal year around June of 2021 and if you look at the report you'll see that all of the expenditures were for salaries and benefits which is fine it's such a point form $10 but if you look on the website next to that you'll see a final report for 2021 on the website and it's going to show that there's expenditures. not the same you're going to see that there was coaching stipends of to 255,000 which Falls within measure K Athletics transportation that falls within my 4K but that should be reflected in the report do something weird that it's not the same also I want to point out that when you look at the amount budgeted for sample to science teachers for 275,000 it show the amount expend is 275,000 that's really weird I mean you never have two teachers cost exactly 275,000 to you're going to see it's the same thing it's really do you have expenditures for let's say the science teachers 1 AP1 honors 370 1250 an amount expended is 371 to 54 something's wrong and I want to know what's wrong how to report yet for 2122 but I would suggest that the Auditors need to go back and look at what's going on really has to be a greater accountability and transparency cuz something's not okay there's enough conflict about measure K as it is so we should be able to know I'd like to see it good evening my name is Tina angelotti I'm the mother of Maddy more over there she's a third grader at El Marino Elementary and I'm here today as an advocate for my child and all the other kids at El Marino have grown to love and miss you principal Palace of Asia and do not want her to leave our school over the past six months she has done an outstanding job keeping our kids safe she demonstrated this and how swiftly and responsibly and professionally recent pocket knife incident on campus this was handled the greater has open lines of communication that were not primarily available by hosting monthly coffee and chats to inform families of what her goals and objectives are for an orderly best promotes growth and learning for our children I've talked with teachers who have shared how much support she's provided them and making sure they have the resources they need and preparing the kids with effective lessons in classroom proficiency been watching listening and studying Paula and she's outside the school daily meeting and greeting our children by first name with part and with enthusiasm and with so much inconsistency in the leadership at El Marino over the past a she's exactly the consistency that our children and our teachers need for our school to thrive especially in such a vulnerable time of educational culture mix of Adrian has demonstrated exempt three skills in relationship-building leadership she's created open lines of communication and it's clear that she wants the best for our children's safety health and education I asked you to take immediate action to bring her back as our principal or at the minimum to finish out the school year let these kids say goodbye in a healthy manner rather than leaving them confused and without answers to what happened thank you guys very much for listening and Q I'm I'm I'm sorry I missed your milky did you want to talk about alternative education so you know you want it you wanted to speak here and on 79th psychology at Culver City High School and so it was quite moving for me to hear from some of my students talk about emotional health and the need for a systemic curricular infusion emotional health and emotional Wellness when is things that jumped out at me after the pandemic is at Culver High we said these kids have been through the mill we really need to back off a little bit and nobody backed off and the homework is still over the homework the push to take a pee is like out of control and our kids are suffering and so there has to be I think it's just a stomach look at what are we doing for emotional health are we harming kid with everybody getting on the AP bandwagon by the way a number of schools have done play with a p and said this is just not what our kids need to be stressed out to this degree and also who elected the College Board should be the curricular specialist for what we teach our students so I hope we will listen to what the students had to say the other thing I wanted to share today is that I think we need to stop Contracting boat services and I know security we talked about that before we're Contracting out counselors to an outside Group which makes no sense to me if we need more Seabeck makes recommendations to the board of education on a variety of budgeting and fiscal matters this month's Seabeck requested time on the agenda so that our chairperson could accurately share cancer if the majority of Seebeck has with the new Earth contract because this is a two million-dollar contract and is currently serving only a fraction of the students they're contracted to serve we wanted to request data so that we can make recommendations based on data it's extremely concerning to me and I think it should be extremely concerning to the community at large that this request was denied I'm assuming it was denied by mr. Tran at hat it was denied are there by mr. Tran and Miss Amezola or both why is tobacco not being allowed to report and make recommendations on fiscal matters when that is the job of the committee mr. mental health is such an issue and you know I do the young age you know I know the pandemic has really a I've been learning and mental health and socialization I wanted to bring the attention that we have five elementary schools in five counselors to support our students how it's back to my attention that only three positions are actually full-time and two positions are on contract and so it doesn't is there a is there a place in the budget to make sure that at least 50 full-time counselors for I'm Elementary School students and I think the ratio should be 1 and 250 students not one and 500 students at our school I talked at the last board meeting to please look at the stats where our counselor is seeing between 40 and 50 kids in the moderate-to-high risk for social emotional learning and she's giving it a hundred percent I mean I'd love for us to recognize how hard are counselors work and and to not put them on a contract where at beginning of Summer they don't have the position to go to and what the do they have insurance do they have any kind of assurance that their job is there a man in a time when we have such burnout the Morales solo I hope that we can find a positive note by just thanking the board for the work that you've done to mitigate the fighting at the middle schools in the high schools sounds like we made some progress in that area and I'm hoping that that's going to actually be a long-term medication and you'll be able to continue all the efforts you've had in that regard to keep the schools safe I think it's especially poignant when we see and hear these high school students coming before the board talking about their struggles with mental health and their desire to see a a curriculum even instituted to and with those struggles in and I really commend their bravery for coming forward and talking about that I personally believe that another way that we can help these students is just by making sure it's focusing on getting the basics right you know when I look at the Drake and I had to come to these board meetings you know it's just frustrating B that it feels like we're not feeling all of the roles that we need these schools never be successful you know I know that it's difficult to find the poll in 2023 but I think if we put more energy and more resources towards getting the basics right like firing a principal for the high school or improving the facilities I think it would go a long way to just creating a rising tide that lifts all boats and I and I think what you're hearing here is that a lot of the parents are concerned that because of a lack of transparency and real questions about this and a charity of District dollars that we just did like the basics aren't being handled and and when you can't get the basics right it's really hard to ask us to back you with some of these other kind of more expand mental approach is to Howard dealing with honors or how are hiring outside contractors and other things brought up to Paula Saavedra back since October and has not yet been addressed another student and my son's classroom has been violent and inappropriate sexual behaviors on campus that are affecting my child's mental and physical help the incidents that my son has been experiencing have gotten severe as the other student has touched my child inappropriately and last week my son expresses that he is scared to go campus due to other students school should be a safe place for students to feel welcome and safe my child should not be crying every morning in fear that the other student will continue to hurt him and affect his meds I believe handling safety concerns in elementary school will prevent safety issues happening in the middle school and high school my son is constantly in fight or flight mode and that is affecting his mental health and cognitive my safety concerns have not been addressed in six months and they're only three months left in the school year I want to ask the board parents and cabinet a question how would you feel if your child goes home and cry see you everyday he does not feel safe he is scared to be in school how would you feel if your child does not feel safe and does not trust adults to keep him safe in school the same adults that should be educating him I hope you guys support the new admin station to get this resolved quickly and possible this is a very big safety concern in my behalf for my child and I did my child will be before the other students that are there with him and also for the student that is going to the aggressor thank you thank you this feels like an appropriate time to just remind the audience that while we may really have a great desire to respond to your individual, as we are not able to because they are not on the Shaymin I'm going to read the measure K ballot verbiage so everyone is very clear to preserve excellence in core academic programs with locally controlled fun that cannot be taken by the state attract and trained qualified teachers maintain smaller class sizes support math science and engineering technology art and music program improve support for students with special needs and prepare students for college and modern careers that's the verbiage for measure K however on June 26th 2018 Kelli Kent decided to sign off on the resolution for the district where it change language of the ballot measure instead of special needs she changed it to help at-risk students succeed that is wrong that is a violation that we have legal implications what the district did was change the verbiage on a ballot measure that the community and the city passed not remotely acceptable White do it with the measure K spots on a repeated basis is unacceptable the fact that the oversight committee has basically been either handcuffed or non-existent is unacceptable what you guys continue to do is unacceptable if any of you could respond or even acknowledge any of my emails that would be great I have requested public records with no response I have a specific question with no response you are failing on every single level and Kelly you are responsible for a lot of it and the sooner you admit restorative practices I've was trained in a school I learn conscious discipline was restorative practices when I looked at their 990 their executive members who are married from 2018 to 2019 increase is Google Culver City honors and see almost 1500 sign our petition for Culver City families for education but we still lack answers to so many questions number one what is the board's response to the resolution requesting implementation of crafted program to encourage and support achievement of black and Latino students to where's the plan to evaluate the impact of these curriculum changes in 9th and 10th grade in terms of student engagement student learning and AP preparation and where are the additional resources Promise by superintendent Tran. hear such as in class AIDS and smaller class sizes number 3 can you reassure the community that all of the remaining honors classes will undergo use the certification and that there are no plans to eliminate other classes the current system is a one-size-fits-all approach that takes away student choice in 9th and 10th grade forcing all students into the same pathway regardless of preparation number for trust and other leading education researchers have pointed to the lack of access to advanced classes as a barrier leading to an equity of outcomes for Black and Latino students why is our school system eliminating opportunities can we explore approaches such as access to AP seminar in 10th Grade or pathway for embedded honors for interest and finally the lack of followed by Korean or Corrine you will be our speaker hi good evening council at the last board meeting aren't District must find meaningful ways to support and permanently fun Mental Health Services throughout the district including at laviana we need reassurance at the school district will prioritize mental health and fully find a counselor ftee position to assure our counselor miss out on our Returns To Lie by Rihanna let's find the resources to keep all of our counselors providing services to all of children studies show that childhood adversity changes our biological systems that last a lifetime let's work together to provide Early Childhood Intervention with mental Services instead of criminalizing our children lastly I would appreciate an update on where we are with the school's outdoor eating structure parents and students competition School administrators for open communicate turn on this issue to this day many parents who want their kids to eat outdoors weather permitting have yet to receive any communication from local administrators 10-year long resident of Culver City and a proud parent of a third grade student at El Rincon Elementary I'm in my second year of serving as the D fundraising for the El Rincon PTA and I have the room parents and my son's third grade class I'm speaking to you tonight to bring awareness to the situation that occurred at El Rincon on Monday March 6th and to seek advice and support as to how the school board members can prioritize holding the district accountable for ensuring Equitable access to transportation for all students on March 6th or 3rd grade class in Rincon had a grade level field trip schedule for the Natural History Museum in to the pandemic in the HD children worth we covered this was the first portrait for many of these students sadly due to the events that occurred that day for these children which should have been remembered as a positive experience will now be remembered as the exact opposite. Jo Rincon reserved through the school two school buses to transport the children on the wing of the children waited for the buses to arrive in only one bus showed up on site on contacting the district it was revealed that there are two bus drivers employed by the school district one of those. drivers have called off sick. Morning meeting only one bus driver available to drive a bus in transport the shelter I have to stop here for a moment because it's so shocking to learn that in the city such as our resources and desire for utilizing best practices in but there would only be two dedicated bus drivers for the entire School District go to return the day after only one bus showed up to campus do of the third grade classes were loaded onto that has began their Journey on the field trip also severely impacted by the delay of waiting for another bus to bring her classmates and would not have the full experience of the museum for the remaining classes left behind by the River Ride about the students have been used a living too late for the and unfortunately those students Left Behind were told they were not going on the field trip I am asking School Board number to hiring bus drivers in order to avoid another child going through the third grade students of all drink on Wednesday a school district by car should have more than two bus drivers on staff so if you'll trip does not need to get canceled due to an option I appreciate your kind thank you everyone for public comment about a we are not looking to move to opening my notes 7.3 ccusd play groups in blue or start with Miss Hannah Missoula and numbers of the board I just have a few things that I wanted to discuss first of all I'd like to say that I totally agree with the comments made by Kathy Grasso and set me back to medii to serve on the seat backs too many and we had a very vibrant discussion about newer than our last meeting which is why we thought it was important for us to bring our concerns directly to the board and investigating or further investigating and I will tell you that has been said about the reason that we hired them we were told that she she she uses them and I found out through my investigations but that is not true but she was using a short. Of time because Los Angeles County hired them to do a revamp of a program that they previously had used and when the Los Angeles County found out that they were not pleased I will say with what new work was deliver a Dom that contract was cancelled and consequently I believe the ccpd no longer use them either so again I will say what I said at the last meeting it's important for us to do investigations into the Outside Agency we hire we need to bet these agencies to make sure that they are able to provide the services for students that they claim they are able to provide and when we see that they cannot live up to the terms of the contract we need to think about permit do not contract and I am not sure why we still haven't done that it's a lot of money to spend on an outside agency which has not been able to prove themselves I also as president of the Union was a good I have a concern about our spending 2 million dollars on a contract like that and then finding out that an offer that was made to the teachers was insulting and less than desirable and I won't go into the details of that but I will tell you committing to the partnership because when we have an eight percent Cola and a year and the district wants to offer us a 2% increase but all that language in measure K about attracting and retaining just goes out the window and where is the trust that we should have in our board and in our District administration when we left to playing games like that is unconscionable I would like to do is say that it was very courageous for the students that stood up and shared their their pain and their concerns and suggestions about mental health support in this District I think we really need to think about hiring more counselors hiring more psychologists we need to find a Kroger at ways to provide support to students that are suffering and as my final thought I'd like to say to my friend Robert Quinn because this is his last board meeting tonight I congratulate you on your retirement I hope it's wonderful I will miss you and thank you for the many years of contributions that you've made the USD thank you that's all I have thank you very long hi how good evening everyone so on the first talk about alternative education so I was happy to see that is finally in agendize item we've been actually asking for that to be in the gym nice item for a long. Of time and I'm hoping that the board and the district make reopening our continuation school at priority because so many of our students are being denied that opportunity at that smaller type of continuation school we need to have more frequent meetings of our alternative Ed Mitty actually quite been quite a while since we've had one because in addition to the continuation school we also need to look at alternative education services for students under age 15 and a half because of course 15 and a half that's to be the age that they reach to go to continuation school so we need to look at some other programs as well to take a look at those core Park in our continuation schools should never have been closed that's actually embarrassing that it was closed and was closed without any kind of input from the community or from the staff and we have just done a disservice to so many students when that school was closed down I next want to talk about employees salaries so we have done really well the past few years on employee benefits the unfortunate thing about employee benefits is that when you do get an increase in benefits the health care providers generally raise the raise tremendously each year and teachers don't really kind of seed much out of it we are really really lacking in salaries right now and although benefits have gone up and that's kind of improved our shared compensation overall our salaries are actually below them eating right now and for many new teachers when they're kind of looking at coming to districts that's one of the first things they look at our employee salaries we need to make a commitment to employee salaries and to play benefits there is a record record calling this year of 8.16 that's one of the highest polas that we've seen in Forever one of the audience at the cost of living adjustment that seemed out the states could increase their there is not going to be any increase to how much the district has to contribute to the state teacher retirement system and will be a small increase to the Public Employee Retirement System this is the time do dress this teacher salaries are a nationwide issue there's a teaching shortage and it's not getting any better we need Fair compensation for teachers or nurses for a cow FR classified staff and I would also include a lot of our management as well to we know we've lost some principles and things like that over the years that has to be a must that has to be top priority for this District cannot afford to lose any more teachers anymore counselors any more nurses anymore classified staff we already have shortages and we need to make sure that we fairly compensate people and we want the district to take this seriously and the board to take this seriously that teachers and everyone else in in these different groups and classified need to be fairly compensated and a record pulley year and a year where you have reserves that are built up Beyond belief budget accordingly user reserves and budget accordingly you keep adding new administrative positions every year I don't know how many times I've come here and you guys have added positions Army positions full-time it's time to stop Roberts already talking about you know where overspending and you know we could be running deficits again it's time to stop and start compensating two people in the classroom we're below 55% that's so insulting to be below 55% in money spent in the classroom and this needs to be a complete attitude shift and change which leads me to New Earth slime form asking on behalf of the ccfp executive board to agendized and item on the new Earth contract currently at 600,000 this year and 1.5 million for next year would be equivalent of around 3% for an increase for all of our employees District what that we're paying out to the service so and end of that contract could be a potential 3% increase to our employees just think about that for a minute and what difference that would make this needs to be discussion I'm very disappointed that the Seebeck had asked for this discussion and it wasn't on the board agenda this needs to be discussion for everyone to be I'm to give their viewpoints on this contract this is something that we really need to take seriously because employee morale I've said time and time again is at an all-time low and if you don't fairly compensate employees for their work and a very expensive place to live with inflation rising and everything going up in prices that's going to stink morale even more and we're going to start bleeding speak about the first one is that I'd like to come in the students who had the courage to stand up and speak about their situation that our current struggles with mental health also like to say that it's troubling and very heartbreaking to hear those stories considering the resources that we have available for these students and I get this District can add more services resources to ensure that these students don't have to go through these personal struggles that they are the second item I'd like to talk about is the retirement of mr. Robert Quinn thank mr. Baxter and I had an opportunity to visit Pepperdine University just a few days ago they had a wonderful recruitment event with 40 and dr. Smith Miss was with us yes and it was just fabulous there was a piano Mister Crown was on that panel this one was from several districts as surrounding districts in this area and are these are all students ready to go and move into our teaching positions first there was a panel session and then we had a session by District where they were able to ask us more questions about our district we took some districts swag to hand out to them so it's real a fun event but more importantly we're hoping to attract new teachers to our district special education single subject multiple subject math science just a whole variety of really excited our teachers just ready to go thank you boards doctor Baxter good evening board president Amezola members of the board mr. Tran would like to congratulate Mr Dan Carter who had 150 students and adults who participated in the speech Championship qualifying tournament last weekend three students qualified for the state championship Amy Sakamoto an original oratory Michelle's out who took second place in declamation Ariana Moss who was first place in the league and programmed or oratorical interpretation and very and you became an altar ab app State impromptu speaking and National extemporaneous speaking cheers to all of those that are going on to State cchs the Avid group visited Cal State Fullerton week we'd like to give a special cheers to mr. Kent you mentioned that we failed students by not allowing it by allowing them to graduate with 59% of the credits that their peers were graduating with I agree that we sell those students but I also support my high school admin and allowing those students to graduate because we did not give them an option these students need an option they need a rigorous but supportive environment research shows that that is where these kids thrived small class has a different class structure support of a that's what they need I have heard their concerns about the cost and I'm flabbergasted to think that we could even mention cost when we're talking about our most at-risk kids when we claimed to be a diverse than and I'm organization so that's what I'd like to say about Culver Park I noticed there's a 10-point safety plan I'm on it thank dr. He didn't make a phone call all she had to do was make a phone call when she decided that that was an important I don't know why I would also like to agree with Melissa Starkey that the language that you guys try to use and Gaslight the community is absurd Robert Quinn has admitted he's not about the ceiling tiles for over a decade and did nothing so the emergency stuff is gas-lighting is just so absurd it's it's terrifying so I will Nair but somewhat it's some point respond to my emails get me my information hey agilysys and Caroline abuser and apologies if I say your name wrong is Julissa thanks for taking my request I want to apologize by off of any of the agenda items I don't have the agenda in front of me and I tried to raise my hand previously and didn't get into the Q I just want to say I showed up for the first protest and spoke to superintendent Tran who I have been speaking to on the phone the last year-and-a-half about whether or not to keep my daughter at Culver started out being really concerned about the honors I feel that was my main issue and you know by the time we got to this protest a few weeks ago I said look I started talking to you about the honors and now I have to do not even try care about that anymore I just want my daughter to live through the day my main goal but since you seem to be addressing some of the fights and I guess that's been talked about a lot of going to just slip back to the honors for a moment and say that in my daughter's college prep class she is doing very well in the but she has a friend in the class Who currently has an F in the class I asked my daughter if there was anything that was being done for her friend who has the act like that's different than what's being done to my daughter who has a plus and she said no her friend went and tried to sign up for AP World History for next year and was told because she has an F in the English class that she cannot work should I don't know if she was told she cannot but she was too strongly. maybe it's the right thing to do but I don't I feel like this is not achieving your goal I don't understand this since I've written to dr. Org and we will read your email thank you and the last speaker Carolyn live user thank you I do have a is it possible to ask a clarifying question before I start talking I don't know if we will have the your question yes the question is if I have a question about something or comment on something that's on the agenda do I have to speak now or can I comment on it later when you get to that point in the agenda this is a time to comment on any items on the agenda so you would like to come in on anything that's on the agenda this is the time to do it okay, now is 10.2 which is the interim Financial that's being second in a row for tonight and a Seth rosenzweig said Seebeck was not able to see this but I would like to address page six on that and I don't understand why you're not talking about the drop-off in Ada and the impact on the district because right now I see that we're missing 510 in 88 I don't know if that's the students that are here part part time or who the students are or why were missing 510 students but that's really critical and what I see is that even though the state is kind of making it up because I bet 3 to Rolling average how much they're painless at this year were going to be down about four million dollars that we could have had if we had those students here next year it's going to be a similar penalty and we as a state is giving us less and less money on that rolling 88 money pretty soon unless we figure out a way to who are those students how come they're not the school are they still enrolled if they're not enroll we need to talk about that because at the end of the day if we don't have students then we're going to have to lay off teachers and would have to do other budget cuts which is fine but we really need to talk about that 588 and a district of a little less than 8,000 students percentage-wise that the enormous and we I don't really see that the Lord is making any kind of projections that I really would advise the board to get an outside local CPA firm or something to do projections to start making a plan because I don't think we can enough students and permits to make up for 588 they're just not out there even of Englewood census everyone that got it's not enough so an LA is not releasing students so it's just that we got to make a plan and if it's chronic truancy we need for 4 million dollars you could have had a whole lot of people over there and dr. Smith's office Holland kids on the phone making home visits hey how come you're not going to school. Can I give you a ride to school whatever whatever put this is I can't believe that you guys don't talk about this every single meeting because if kids aren't here that ultimately the teachers won't have jobs and the districts. list of people at the district won't have jobs that's all I have to say thank you thank you everyone for your feedback at this time I would like to welcome members of the board to do their report starting to order tent Laredo Guerrero as a door thank you good evening I will only comment on. items recently board president at Missoula and board member Guerrero attended a community event that was an all too infrequent opportunity to attend to? the neighbors and since that time board president Amezola and I have considered how we can replicate this type of community engagement we greatly appreciate our PTA is roll call and liaison between the district and the greater Indian this believe it is wise to start by giving grief updates at PTA meetings regarding matters of the moment these could range anywhere from facilities to permit the college prep to safety and so on so we're going to reach out to principles in order to begin a series of visits to ptas throughout the district and we are hoping all other board members would be interested in joining in a manner that we would rotate to members at a time and visit the PTA a brief update and perhaps a short q-and-a so it's really comment directed at my colleagues to find out if you're interested in participating in that with us thank you for those Nottingham and then I will simply against instruction by mr. and give parting remarks to mr.
