Culver City Unified School District

Letter from the Superintendent

As you know, this has been a trying day for school districts and educators throughout the Los Angeles area. I would like to thank our incredible staff for its leadership, sensitivity, concern and compassion in responding to the unsettling news from LAUSD this morning.

Just as you, we learned of the events regarding the threats against LAUSD as events unfolded in the media and began responding/communicating with our parents, schools and community prior to any formal news release from LAUSD.

We learned quickly that the alleged threats were specific to LAUSD schools. We communicated immediately with law enforcement to seek additional information, connected with neighboring districts and did our best to communicate current/accurate information to you and all the families we serve. The timing of the information certainly enhanced the level of concern and sense of uncertainty. Like the other school districts surrounding LAUSD, we made a thoughtful decision to hold school: we assessed the situation, worked closely with local law enforcement to clarify the facts, and confirmed the threats were of a very specific nature to LAUSD schools only.

We would like to thank the Culver City Police Department for working so closely with us, not only today, but always, to ensure the safety of all of our students and staff. CCPD has been supportive, visible and responsive to the understandable concern that this incident generated – and we thank you for your trust and support.

Please be assured that safety is paramount in CCUSD, and we will continue to work hard to provide a safe and secure learning environment for all of our students and staff.  We were diligent today, as we are each and every day.

David LaRose,

Superintendent
