She always prepares for class actively participate in class discussion and sharing her thoughtful comments Melia has begun taking a more leadership role through class activities especially group projects and performances she does not hesitate to offer a helping hand to her classmates we are proud of her for demonstrating her excellent citizenship congratulations Malia also from El Marino let's welcome nilo nilo are you here come on up awesome we will we will be deserving Milo Milo thank you my love is truly deserving of the American Citizenship Award proudly promotes our walk and rollers program by encouraging everyone to participate Milo to be a and sit with your stuff she is honest and will speak up for others when needed congratulation next from El Marino language school we have Alice Schiller Alice Schiller has a positive attitude towards her classmates school and Community she understands and practices civic responsibility has strength of character and the courage to Shelton Thomas are you here come on down awesome it is with great pride El Rincon congratulations, Shelton for this month's Citizenship Award how much is a kind and helpful and hard-working scholar who is a natural garbage everyday Thomas shows is to be an El Rincon rocket and he is always willing to help those around him whether with technology or math she takes it upon himself to make sure that all students feel welcome and included she loves to organize help to keep his class in neat and orderly if he is funny with a great sense of humor, says all around good character he exhibits responsibility perseverance be and much more congratulations Thomas next we have from Farragut Elementary School Emily Lee Emily is a third grade student at Farragut Elementary School who exhibits good citizenship skills and is a productive and caring member of society Emily is involved in several curricular activities like choir dance piano and gymnastics she also volunteers and is learning sign language and Korean Emily is respectful of others and to the environment every day after school Emily offers to help her teacher clean up the class she recycles and we'll plug in students Chromebooks so they have a functioning computer each day should appear forget their lunch bag in the classroom and really will take it to them before meeting up with her mom family takes pride in helping others and in the work she does Emily Lee is a model citizen of society congratulations Emily a student from Farragut is Kaylee Newan optimistic considerate and responsible are the first two words that come to mind when describing Kailyn when she consistently comes to school with a positive attitude and actively participates in classroom activities Kaylee is a spot for classmate who accepts the difference of others and shows understanding for the emotions of others she helps connect and build a safe Community from being a student council representative in 4th grade to now a rainbow Club in 5th grade congratulations Kaylee next week have that students them Love by Yuna play come on down interference I'm writing notes to classmates and telling them how special they are on occasion she spent all night writing during the day she goes out of her way to do friendship friendship and help others feel included if she notices a student having a difficult time she prefers to be friends them and offers her help what is an example for all of us on campus she enjoys playing and laughing with others while Motley how to be a great Citizen and friend chicken has helped a number of her classmates this year her teacher what a beautiful future she believes these students will have you are truly an American citizen thank you for teaching us how to include others congratulations. Eloise shifting come on down Eloise Eloise Eloise every single box for what constitutes the American citizenship Awards only is she our class representative for student council but she plays an important role as part of the advisory Council that gives feedback to teachers on how to improve the experience of all students she's taking a great deal of Pride and speaking up and speaking out on behalf of herself and others with her level of involvement and intrinsic motivation it would be no surprise to see her receiving an award every year for the rest of her career and see see you and that's me and graduation congratulations Eloise next from Culver City Middle School Bella Alan McKibben if president of a Culver City chapter F.. Club which is a nonprofit that strives to eradicate. Poverty and stigma to service education and advocacy by the fourth year of our community service project by bringing her friends to join as officers and members our first order of business was advertising we'd like to say Stella as the spokesperson of the.. Club because of her monthly appearances in the cancer pressroom which airs in all CCMS pod classrooms on a weekly basis with Stella as president are small But Mighty Club of students in 2019 has grown to over 50 members this year is a welcoming one for all people who want to end period poverty licensed la also from Culver City Middle School please join me in congratulating Gabriella tomorrow Gabriela Camara is vice-president of the Culver City Middle School chapter of. Hodge who is going to be talked to us about believe me Amy Hodge on also known as the doctor Hood Valerie Kahn Elementary School we're having a little bit of a mess as always happens in elementary you got to be very flexible share the slides apparently they haven't been shared that's the good thing about being part of an elementary team is that we always think that we're all working together all the time I just weather for you we did create a really Felicia sing slideshow for you because we really want to go show you just how wonderful our team is on the beauty of being in part of the team is that we know that our students yeah I went to you are all going to go thank you that was what we called there we go. we are so fortunate to have such a wonderful team this year is our first year of having full-time 80s we'll talk a little bit more about that in the coming days coming days oh my gosh, splice it is so talking about equity and that is the lens from which we do everything from and I think it's really important to understand that equity for us really is about the next slide which is an TSS multi-tiered system of support I personally am in very invested in mpsf because I was one of the people who started the journey the years before the pandemic and we started by having professional element developing our teams in our systems and we're really fortunate that the last two years we have had ncss actual mtss coordinators at our site and they have been so so important because they are to provide data and to guide our data conversation and that is really which we really used to make a decision on you can see the vision statement I thought you got me on the way the vision statements about integrated and inclusive academic social emotional Behavior instruction Under the Umbrella of ncss is everything that we do every single day we we are at school Who We Are fractions we have with parents and students how we are working together is two teams restorative practices and especially a response to intervention not only academic intervention but behavior and social emotional Dimension and so those are are wonderful and CSS specialist do this work without them my name is Janae Jeffrey and I am the very proud assistant principal of Farragut Elementary tonight and I'm going to be focusing on inclusivity and just kicking off this section for everyone listen video across all campuses our main goal is to make sure that all students regardless of any difficulties or challenges that they have are given the opportunity to receive a high-quality education including instructions and chords and any interventions in order to meet with success here we focus on PBIS which is basically a positive behavioral interventions that we see through all campus  these are some examples of some of the acronyms that we use across our campuses their school-wide and they focus on ways to be proactive rather than reactive with behavior so at each site we work diligently to develop the behavioral expectations with our PBIS teams and their Norm across each section whether it be the cafeteria whether it be our playground there is no warmth at all changes are expected to here to we teach the kids explicitly and the way that we teach them include showing videos in the classrooms doing short lessons and also having classroom discussions all the kids know that our overall goal and working our PBIS system is to create a positive environment and the kids are not only receptive but they are also accountable looking at PBI yes we basically have here is that the kids are engaged in depending on their specific needs so we're cheer one we basically have every single child on a system where they're able to get the tickets immediately when they're showing are behaviors when they're filling the expectations that we have for them once they get those tickets there's usually some school-wide events to celebrate and some of those celebrations can be like a little field trip to the park little celebrations can be school life where we recognize specific students to have really excelled and one area and we have their parents, and their staff and then also their peers and they're really proud it's a great moment for them in rdr2 we focus on supporting small groups of students who might need some additional practice in order to meet the behavior expectations we have set out for them before example these students may need access to mentorship which week check in and check out with trusted adults to see how their day is going and to encourage him to make good choices throughout the day we also have group counseling for students and we have Behavior plans to help solidify the skills that were looking for 2003 we have more specialized support and there's an example up there of a social story which could be very specific to a child who has a unique needs so is that a child is struggling with maybe yelling out in the class we would write a story to show them what to do to get attention instead of yelling out so the Sim alternate behaviors are listed in the story we also try to give these unique students leadership opportunities one of the leadership opportunities that we've had most silly are these Keepers they go out on the yard and they're there and the kids flag them down if they're having a slick and they help us to work with the children to get them through that sounds like so we're me and Leslie for these students we also have behavior intervention plan for which which we weren't on with a team of people at the school and their parents basically for the thank you for the tears Andre we want to make sure that we're targeting every single to file on campus as far as the next best for ipv is we want to continue to find soon as we are implementing throughout the year we take today about three times a year to see how the students are performing and to make sure that were adhering to all of our standards with Fidelity we want to continue to do that throughout this year and then next year will be going into here for training in order to expand of our practices and I'm going to pass it on to the Brian Raper who's going to talk about some of the community building and problem-solving supports we have on campus I want to start by welcoming Janae Jeffrey and thank you for taking my old job last year I was a assistant principal at Farragut Elementary split as well as when Elementary now I want to publicly thank everyone in this room who work together for the first time in Culver City. Every Elementary School a full-time assistant principal my experience being at both schools and what I'm experiencing now is a full-time set principal is completely transformed the work that I can do with my principal and my stash I just want to thank you again for give me opportunity to be at once in support of the students in the family that I work with one of the most amazing tier-1 strategies interventions is the use of community circles and this is nothing new here we go back to the beginning of our session today we talked about the land that were standing on this is where it started with the indigenous people getting into circles as one not looking at the back of someone's head being together to come to whether to learn about one another and build trust this work came to us last year through an amazing trainer with the top left-hand Karen yunker but there is a very inspirational and she's been coming to the elementary schools and helping understand this work so we can bring it to our students and our staff and our families so now in our second year we were noticing is that more classrooms are running in circles and I didn't know circles its extreme inclusive for all students you get to express your ideas you get to create Norms share feelings and in some cases solved problems these students are creating capacity to solve a conflict and that's where the restorative-practices come in and that's been happening more and more this year as soon as are familiar with the process in the structure of how to respect and you snore what's in a circle the really exciting thing that's happening is happening tomorrow at my school is Karen yunker is coming down to train a group of 4th and 5th graders to actually run the circles what are lower elementary students were passing the torch to those students they're going to learn about the theory of community circles why it's important and then they're actually going to practice disc with actual the classrooms and dedicated space like you here where students can come in and teachers can bring their students and run Community circles very very excited a passport on to our fourth and fifth grade students we've been working with parents on campus and off is also building Community with them you know this year we have secure campuses we want to provide parents opportunities to fill me with each other and build relationships and through the practice of community circles were also do as modeling for them they might steal their child doing their own class tropes we often get asked what are the practices that we can take from elementary can move to middle school and the high school Austin the things that you do in elementary school are just vastly different than what happens in the Opera Opera grade such as having different. He's having different teachers but one thing that can stay consistent is a use of community circles in and restorative practices are elementary kids know this work there starting as young as TJ you take their expertise as they move into middle school and high school this work will just get better and stronger and that's where I think we can go so with that I'd like to pass it on to hello everyone I'm dr. Becky goddamn principal at Lafayette Elementary so we all do we've been talking a lot about inclusivity and we know we know this is not possible without our comprehensive counseling program that we have at each of our elementary schools and so we went to share with you with this areas are that our counselor where's the focus on we want you to notice that they are working on not only academic success but social-emotional development and College and Career Readiness and they do this at all three of the tier levels that doctor Hodge was speaking about earlier more than just dr. Pierce them often for lots of things so they are providing tier-1 support to every single student in the school the counselors are also providing peer support to many of our students and then also support for our students that might need it even more specific support so these are the amazing individual that every single day as you can stand up in a the longlist to you but about 80% of their time and dedication is on Direct Services that they're providing to our students and then they also spend about 20% of their time providing indirect services and we can go to the next flight what I think is really important because two years ago we so we are in our second year as having full-time counselors at the elementary schools was just take a minute be very thankful for that as well we like to think about reflecting on the end so I called Graham act and so I reached out. councillors had to find out some numbers for you all so you can see what's happening and in any given week our counselors are seeing 469 students within a week they're seeing 81 group this is a combined this is a summer there any one group small groups of children they are teaching a reaching out cheer one with 2:38 glasses and there are 26 parent Outreach activities within a month are providing this amazing and packed when you think about prior to 2019 all of these numbers be close to zero overall 1600 of our students are seeing a counselor every single week in Culver City Unified and we're not finished because we have lots of goals in the steps for a counseling program we really follow closely to the American school counselor Association framework one of our schools is applying for the ramp program which is up at unofficial recognition as a model program and when we win we receive it it means that we're going to get access to more resources then turns will become a model for districts around us and it will truly Trey systemic change for mental health which we all know and are reminded to Hoffman how important that is so we are very very grateful for all of the work that our counselors are doing thank you counselors they're on zoom and we appreciate that the school board in our district administrators are supported that I can send now the amazing, not to tell you about innovation hello I'm fond enough of all I am the proudest is the principal at El Rincon Elementary School but I was at laviana last year Mr Weber was talking about I think one of the biggest impact is that we aren't consistent figures on the campus now and we are someone that students and teachers back cuz he can all rely on so thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to serve each of our elementary school. ABCs Innovation slide talks about I was like to pick us off with Innovation as one of the Nickelback please thank you anyways we can celebrate the ways children learn and and show their learning so there's different ways that our site's celebrate and support our children and their learning and one on the way it is with our teaching and Learning Partner and I teach good morning partner I am actually have benefited from a teaching and Learning Partner as a teacher at UCSD I have worked into my soul about my caftan cheers in many coaching sessions that have benefited my students that are actually yours at a convenience to stay up today research based practices and continue to create spaces and basic make and learn from our mistakes and so if you look up there the DLC support is that it helps teachers location of best practices of CGI readers and Writers Workshop modeling and coaching which all helps teachers learn how to celebrate the different ways to dance learn and the different word what is that they share their learning which also comprises to udl not the part one thing that I do know about our tltc do really want to make sure that it is a safe space so confidentiality is a big word for them so that we can learn and make those mistakes in the face please support and supporting the social emotional my students as well as so how can we support our needs DirecTV is programs and our counseling programs collaboration so they collaborate with in our sights than collaborate as elementary schools and also with the district so they're our liaison the networks throughout our district at ccusd each DLC has many celebratory moments that they can share from ranging from Wings in my reading and writing instruction and providing TV for foundational reading skills and overall. But if you look here they are a busy Bunch today except for a geology work reading and tell me what structure are work with UCLA sent her a text with her social studies framer they've also continuing our partnership with nokota since I found a shins of our artist the artist teaching houses work with the CIA readers and Writers Workshop and as well so thank you. glp to help with customizing and really need the needs of each site for the December for our students and our teachers in their in their internet. I and I will pass it on to the next message is Katana the Arts are still very much alive in Arkansas City Elementary schools and students we eat a burger third graders are so far this year since but we are back in third grade and fifth grade students are working with the symbolic Jazz Orchestra and all boys and B 3 C do you have access to an instrumental music program also we have to make sure we mention our organization program so each one of our Elementary School site is working with a credentialed teacher to bring Innovative bird and you know that engineering is at thinking it's if you have been an Ardent arts and animation class I do recommend you check it out it's really a great place for students to push their creative thinking and 21st century learning skills there's also an amazing collaborations We are continuing with our now I got two horses one of my passions opportunity tonight to speak about student data how are we looking at student data and addressing students data processing a model that you that was on the side previously and you've heard us talk a lot about the tier-1 tier-2 this is really critical right now as we are addressing the different student groups within our district and again this is not new work within our district we have always been looking at our students and what I think the shift is in the past beers with the addition of our MPS best coordinators and our intervention teachers is really the intentionality of looking at all of our students and making sure we don't miss anybody so we do have screeners that are taking place do you want to play with in that and that's our in classroom mention that we're focusing on so every week our teachers are meeting in their professional learning communities and looking at how to support students with in their classroom and if you look at the big pyramid that's really our school wide interventions to support the students they mentioned before we do have several data sources that were using to choose to identify our students and it's a lot of difference resources that were using right now all of our teachers and our support staff are out of the classroom is really being intentional when this data and got them they were just putting in our back pocket and ignoring we are being especially intentional moving forward regarding our different groups right now games are unpacking our current theory don't want to just look at our data from last year and say what did we do wrong what could you better or looking at this year's current data and what can we do now right now our intervention teachers and MPS working really hard with our data to unpack the current data to make sure that week besides have what they need from there are teachers are meeting and Chelsea and looking at it so we don't have those yeah it's but I think the important thing is that we're working on it. right now it's a collaborative musical at all our students and now I believe it is nicer to Bullis Park Masterson Jason cipolla so what do we do with all the data that's what the next step is we have all this data we have all this team work as you seen this evening we have all of our principal is our system for we talked about rmds especially since we talked about our child needs but the next Cog and that will is our reading interventionist in our mouths interventionist and as you can see from the various things that they do they have a very difficult job and I want to give a shout out to both our reading interventionist and our math interventionist not only do they have to meet with MPS not only do they have to meet with us administrators but then they also have to balance what are students need as well as what our teachers need so let's not forget that they also have to go to teacher to teacher to teacher they very much out to be a personable person a person who's able to be flexible but a person who keeps the student at the center of all their decisions so through our selection basis our selection criteria that we go through to the intervention curriculum that you see before you and then to the actual support of the students and the teachers these individuals do a fantastic job on a daily basis which is all is changing is based on our data dr. about how many students are going to be there and whoever the most needy group is whether it's the bottom 5% or 6% or 80% is that that kind of cheer three opportunity and support or floor on that and then my hope is used and I appreciate you baby how the interventionist work and other coaches is work at a teaching and learning about disabilities and not a ton about English Learners until we got to elac which I really appreciated hearing about that I would love to continue in conversation maybe you know it's when we come out to the sites and talk about this or future presentation but really found these structures that we have at the site support students including students with disabilities how they support all students including our students who are our English Learners just kind of us aims to adhere the district to the green New Deal is 9 pillars and weave realize older environmental policies that have yet to be implemented my peers and I are not only filled with the usual fear Thank you so much and then I'm your Culver City coordinator readings board on the awesome see you all even though I'm not there in person I just want to do a few reminders in February be there actually done so starting with February heart-healthy month so we encourage all kids by the walking buddy and join your schools walk to school day next week is actually a very busy one with walk to school days on Wednesday at Farragut El Rincon in Love by Leona and Friday at El Dorado in Lynwood how and of course meaning Los Walking Dead Friday every Friday we also have our next Family Bike skills workshop on Saturday February 4th that come over ponds YMCA from 10 to 3 hopefully everybody can join us how to buy safely throughout the community on Monday February 6th will be hosting My Traffic Safety City at La bayona with a focus on pedestrian safety awareness we're really excited about coming back and we look forward to being the other elementary schools that have not yet scheduled FYI we are working currently with Public Works identify parking walk sites in each of our school side this is very exciting as the lad another tool in the toolbox and as we encourage all our family we think your commute to school when they are able to so walking biking carpools or Transit each blocking it even matters by working together we can all create safer and healthier communities and whenever you can buy from school and walk your kids it's a really great resource for everybody thank you and I look forward to seeing you guys all the recipe thank U next we have Miss Grasso where can I read hear me okay thank you hi guys I'm Kathy Grasso and many of you know me I'm the ccft union representative at the high school I wanted to start by giving a quick shout-out for a high school administrator to have seamlessly transition to not having a principal and really taken great care of us through that transition so just want to say that but the rest of what I have to say is not as bright and cheery I am the ccft union representative for Seabeck was the community budget advisory committee I was genuinely dismayed to learn that Culver City Schools is currently in violation with the state because we I have not spent the minimum amount required by the state in our classrooms California requires that 55% of the district's budget be spent in the classrooms and we learned that over the pass for years the percent of our budget spent in the classrooms has steadily declined and so as I said we're now in violation with interesting as over the past four years we've been coming to these board meetings and saying that our district and identified as being administratively have V and when I say that I don't mean at the school I mean at the district office so over the past four years while we have been Target the told by an outside agency that we have excessively large class sizes and underfunded funded programs like special ed over those theme pass for years we've added 6th District office positions yet are spending in the classroom has declined to a point where we are in violation I would also like to mention something to the board that I reached out about there are several teachers at CCE over City High School that are not being paid on time or at all we have reached out to the district office multiple times and have not gotten any response and this is simply unacceptable accessible I also want to I don't want my time but I want to say that I agree with you be able to see it but for those we were not at the school site council district-wide meeting last Wednesday I will still stunned and shocked and disgusted that we are paying this consultant almost $150,000 so far for one of the worst Consulting experiences I've had and that's saying something considering how bad the Consultants have been for the city of Culver City so is Alma's black for you to be there and ask questions and make comments when you have no idea what we've been doing for the past six months was very inappropriate and Incredibly disrespectful but the fact that the school board along with the superintendent and the so-called consultant had not actually met with our fire and police and emergency response teams for a safety plan that they knew was required and his new all over the state is Bull and horrifying but seems very par for the course for the district right now so I'm not shocked by Kathy Grasso's, so I'm not shocked by a lot of comments you know Ms can you been there for years and years and years and I hope take some responsibility for a failing District so I really angry right now with all of you I'm not the newest people cuz you didn't know what was going on but mr. Tran you need to step up and do your job School Board used to be on top of things specially State requirements and this board and his district better get their act together you need to work with our police and fire for the safety of our children whether you like it or not and I see that directly to his Kenton is at Missoula in particular and Tristan I'm sure you're on board with don't let a police officer near the campus is that is an unacceptable option they're here for our kids and the safety of kids work with them helped get the plan in place and make sure our kids are not injured if there's an emergency so we'll work on it thank you mister man is it possible to pin a my my screen so that they can see my timer easily it's in my vehicle can we hear the next speaker place next speaker is by booster can you hear me okay yes yes okay I want to talk about a couple things specifically to items that are on the purchase orders there is at the first item $7,600 for the agenda is this for that we haven't done since it is it for an item on the agenda 6.3 oh yes yes okay then this is this is not the time to it thank you so much Culver Park and I spent five years teaching at an alternative school in Los Angeles Unified it was extraordinary really effective and we were able to get many many children to graduate through that the program and I was dismayed to hear that we had so many children at Culver City High School who were not afforded this opportunity that you would close down cover Park and I strongly believe that if we had program in place we could have had one of how to have the special waiver of 130 credits for those children The Graduate and I think we're doing the students a grave disservice by not having home urge you to open it again as as soon as possible thank you thank you and that's the end of public recognition for non agenda items thank you so much we are going the move to angry or ccusd employee groups and can we start with Miss Debbie happy board president and board members I have a few things that I'd like to address someone already been addressed by some of the previous speakers in support of reopening Culver Park I was distressed to hear that we had students who are not on track to graduate because they lack the appropriate credit so I'm wondering why we didn't reopen Culver Park and make the support available to our students last year Troublesome to hear that nobody is tracking what's going on in that that our final solution is only to reduce the number of credits you need to graduate rather than provide the support that these students have needed for quite a while so again I would board to reconsider their thoughts that Culver City continuation High School is not worthy of being reopened we don't know whether or not there are more students that are going to be coming up that could take it Vantage of the types of services and support that they would get in our continuation school so I would like the board to rethink their decision on that I'd also like to point out that we are still severely understaffed throughout the district and we do have plenty of administer send at the district level we still lacked appropriate instructional assistants in all of our classroom that's something that we have been asking for years for the district to fix it has not been fixed and we're all severely understaffed now and our maintenance operation and transportation department we don't have enough staff to get the work done that needs to be done at the site as an example I put in a paper word for Xerox paper at the beginning of this month and we still don't have that delivery to El Rincon where the teachers are coming to me daily to say we don't have any Xerox paper and they can't run off what they need to run offer their students and I've had to get drips and drabs of a car here in a few cartons there because there isn't anybody available to put 30 cartons into a truck and drive it over my school and that's unconscionable the teachers don't have what they need to do the work they need to do on a daily basis because we're under siege and we can't get paper deliveries and we can't get soap dispensers fix or replace it's absolutely unbelievable what's going on in this district and the board seems to be entirely unaware of everything that's going on here and how bad were suffering at the sites my last questions would be about 10.3 this community Workforce agreement is a 44 page document I won't comment on it now wait until you get to that point of being jenda but I'm hoping that there's going to be somebody that's going to be giving a very detailed explanation as to what this is and what it's meant to accomplish thank you before we go to mister long can I move that we officially move 8.3 up on the agenda got folks waiting I was actually going to suggest time for this discussion about 83-85 which is the student reports as well as they had one in ten 3 because we have guests sitting in the audience have been here for a while we're presenting so what I'm open to estimate and sent all the way to the end and I think let us try to move move through this agenda right just continue with a what I suggest is that we moved and sent the gender all the way down to her information items and then that way we can continue with our our current public recognition and in this way we also have we have our speakers for 10-point to so newer this here already so if we're going does it I would prefer that we move the students if that's okay next after employees and then A problem at all okay so first I'd like to formally invite I'm all five members of the board to join us at the at ours So currently the spa on myself the Tammy a few of our vice presidents of the Union Miss Angela gray and orange egg now the secretary along with mr. Tran has visited all of our sites we come on Wednesday we have an open Forum where we get to sit down with the teachers and classified staff and administrators and just have a free-flowing question-and-answer session they have been I opening many have asked for the board to join us in these and we're proposing that in the spring semester that the board come out to East B on Wednesdays during staff meeting with myself in the Sammy and mr. Tran and cabinet to hear what the people have to say I think it's really important for the board to hear from what I called the rank-and-file members you can go I would have little small visits with various teachers you can have little visits with different groups and not really hear the true story of what's going on this district is like Miss hammy said I think a lot of people on the border really unaware what's happening right now I'm the only way for you to find that is to go out and actually talk to the people so I'm inviting every board member to join us we will get the schedule together to come out on our next round or two around the district and join us with Miss having my stuff mr. Tran and cabinet so you can actually hear from the staff and then unfiltered way the issues were facing Culver City Unified District 2 that is open invitation to all all five board members secondly I want to talk about the continuing issues with payments Grasso had alluded to it it's not just Culver City High School are also currently dealing with situation at El Rincon and at love Iona and we've dealt with issues also throughout the year at Farragut at Culver City Middle School at Linwood how all of our sites people are not getting paid on time and they're getting a little bit frustrated by it and why probably going to happen is a lot of these people are just going to go ahead and start going right to the state and filing complaints with the labor board with the labor department because it's actually against the law not to pay people on time actually a lot around about how quickly people have to be paid and I believe it's 30 days we have people that haven't been paid from last year from the summer they've reached out to the district and got no response they reach out to their site wraps and get no response and then occasionally they'll be some response when I reach out this shouldn't happen the number one fundamental of job of an employer is to pay their employees and pay them on time and that is not happening in this District this is a huge systemic problem that's actually been going on for quite a while now and people are fed up and frustrated Aaron C berlier about how they couldn't get a teacher to volunteer to be the student council reps and I'm thinking maybe because teachers are so tired of having to hunt down their pay to do these extra duties it's not only extra duties several teachers who didn't get their regular paychecks in January imagine that not getting your regular paycheck this is a problem that has to be fixed. I want to address the issue that was so brought up earlier that our district is not spending enough money in the classroom there is a minimum of 55% of the district's budget that has to be spent on in the classroom which is primarily salaries and benefits are teachers in Aether in the classroom we didn't meet that bare minimum and that's shameful what's even more shameful is we've been going down every year in this category we're we're not spending enough on our teachers and our 8 so let's take a look since the 2019 Staffing on it what we've done and why we're dropping every year so we've added at the district office a coordinator of school and Family Services since 2019 acte coordinator and assistant superintendent of Dai and all of those positions have support staff at the last meeting you increase the sustainability coordinator from part-time to full-time tonight on the agenda is the special projects director we change the director of selpa to assistant superintendent of stop a which by the way we do pay one-third of and we wonder why we got dingo getting dinged right now for not spending enough money in the classroom and it's where lie squarely on the board of education because ultimately you approve these measures and when we talked about this ability coordinator last week or last meeting only one board member said you know this is not the answer sustainability is important but maybe and then ministrator is not the answer to this only one board member said that if this continues to happen you continue to approve these new positions and now we're going to be ding by the state because we did not spend enough money in the class again that something is unconscionable it's it's outrageous and I hope the community really hold you all accountable for that that you're not doing that basic function why are we even shooting for the bare minimum 55% that's the minimum where we should be much higher than that next I want to talk about Culver Park this is been brought up by several people and I sent this email out as well. Lower the graduation requirements at the last board meeting and I fully understand the reasons behind that I will say that we have closed down our continuation school so students who might have been in that situation where they didn't have enough credits didn't even have that opportunity at a continuation school to make up credits we also had alright Academy which was listed as full up until about 2 days ago when we finally hired another staff how are we did 90 students these opportunities like a continuation school Life Academy and then the answer is just lower the graduation requirements that's a disservice to our students now I've asked several times for continuation school to be a gen. at a board meeting and it still is not showing up on the agenda and I'd like to know why thank you all for your coming also wanted to give a big thanks to this Amezola we had a very very productive meeting I really appreciate that time that we had meet and discuss many of these issues I look forward to any other board members who would like to meet as well thank you again this time was all for that meeting and that's my comments for tonight we are now going to go to student representative chords and if we can please start with I apologize I believe it's that middle those we can hear from the middle school student board members which I believe is lie and Jacob scene good evening everyone I knew me live by the CCMS president and Arnett that will be taking place this Friday will be having our annual talent show where students get to show off their talent it will be taking place after school in the cafeteria from 5 to 7 p.m. and tickets are $3 at the door auditions were recently held and Panthers were emails whether they made the final cut or not and we hope to see you there good evening I'm Andrew Jacobson the ctms vice president and her 8th grade Dave & Buster's Field Day is coming up it will be Friday February 3rd from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the tickets will cost $45 and includes transportation to and from Dave & Buster's food and soft drinks with a and unlimited players card we are currently sitting I'm selling tickets right now until Friday in front of second Hall are panthers lunchtime and we will also be hosting a parade in honor of the Lunar New Year diversity and culture are important to us that CCMS and we're excited to be hosting this event during your lunch time to last we are. Carroll remember you said Brian Guerrero The Honorable mr. Brian, it is somewhat disrespectful when certain either intentional or not intentional addressing board members by their title and when it come to remembered you just simply referring the new member by name by the first name and I find that something that we could all do better I would like to remind a members of the audience that my staff and all of us whenever we are dressed board members they are board members Mr Guerrero Mr Isadora president of Missoula. board members Laredo and I would appreciate that to move forward and may I use the next few minutes to dr. Smith to address the board yes opening board members I'm going to be with you this evening I just have a 23 I lied to share with you last evening we had our inaugural inaugural black families advisory Council steering committee in the space there were six black mothers and we're seeking a couple black father is to join that's the steering committee view the draft Mission Vision sample I will waiting feedback from the black achievement resolution and we had some initial data review and conversation our next meeting is scheduled for February 13th where the steer Council bring recommendations to enlarged be to grow the council but this is the steering committee and that was amazing today I had lunch with Anthony Eileen at the high school and we discuss the needs of the staff a couple of months ago I was invited and what does our vision what are we doing and we talked about the proficiency and we talked about the needs of the site and and some except that we've scheduled some professional development around bias anti-bias and cultural proficiency and we also discussed the needs of how to elevate student voice in this world a W-2 came in today play a queer person do that is not shared outside of my office yet but we realized we have to provide a mechanism for students to be able to share what's on their mind in real time in a spade without fear of repercussion or retaliation, so that we know what our needs are and so did we was a comment made by a board member or a couple meetings ago and the EAC task force is researching the notion of a biased reporting system and how to how to if it's not exact. It is a really for students to be the report and share what's on their mind and lies and organize it when former professional development for teachers to report feedback on what we have to know how are children are feeling and they keep giving us an occasion of what's going on and we have to continue to listen and I am pleased to partner with our one of our community organizations through for the attendance Improvement initiative a joint collaboration with new Earth are outstanding counseling School counseling team district-wide Family School in Family Support Services and we've got a process in place to provide wraparound for on middle and high school students who are chronically not been further we reported last time it was about 143 students we were we were way off we actually have 385 out of 2142 at the high school and 182 out of 15 92 at the middle school and this is regarding absences for many many weeks so we know we have our work ahead we know that differentiate assistants that was a challenge for us and we have and not just a plan we have proactive next steps on how to support our students I just want to say that we know there's intersectionality with our students who are chronically I've said these may be students may not be on track to graduate and we might need to know we need to help increase mental health counseling we met housing our food insecurity additional intervention into what we already offer a student with the interior 504 you know the needs are great but we have resources and we have the key Glen Place to address the needs of our students so thank you. 380 and this is chronically absent this is 10% of the school year 385 students out of 2142 at the high school 182 out of 1592 at the middle school mystery thank you mr. Tran I'd like to start by saying that I that we the cabinet I agree with Miss Grasso statements and mr. long statements regarding late pay get some disappointing it's unacceptable and it shouldn't happen no one should work and then wait months and months and my to get paid absolutely unacceptable and we need to do something about this if you're looking at the process to pay our employees it because of the timesheet and the pr the school sites in Human Resources a human resource this is it in the inputting is Miss offices involved as far as payroll but not all of that is irrelevant when I work as a teacher as an aide as a custodian and I do extra work that should be paid in a timely manner so I just want to assure the board that we're going to focus on this we're going to work on this mr. Quinn and I already discussed this and unfortunately this is the first time this is happening so we need to fix this and we need to get specific because the only way that we can fix this is to get specific and identify where those problem issues are addressed them and changed what we're doing that we can do a better job at this secondly I went to a conference last week on human resources and some of the topics were just really outstanding they were on job description contract language negotiable items labor practices salary schedules and Labor Relations so I'm bringing that to the district into the table those topics so hopefully that will be helpful to our district thank you mr. Tran good evening board president at Missoula and members of The Barn at Services Division and cell phone will meet with laco Stables County Office of Education next Wednesday to learn more about the differentiated assistance services from their office as we looked in there the opportunity gap for all students while keeping in mind students with disabilities and see is experiencing homelessness which are the focus of Legos jaws of the differentiated assistance we will have further progress monitoring data update along with this differentiate assistance information next month we plan to bring forward the three students who were the two along with the spotlight who were at the artist the artist Laureate Alexi steals love my neighbor United against hate event and and we're participating in the exhibition at the Village well and November We are continuing to have conversations and leadership and put as we move with the high school and staff regarding PE and Share Credit we are gathering input and discussing a through G expectations for all students and we are working to develop an expedited conclusion in order to align our a through G expectations so that all our college and career-ready thank you to my team's report tonight I did have the privilege to meet with our superintendent student advisory Council last week and I had to drive the president of that group to share that with the board what we discussed briefly and this Kaliyah Lovitz are you online to share that with the board tonight I am good evening everyone go ahead peace in our last superintendent student advisory council meeting we all introduce ourselves and got to know each other for what we want to do after high school and how our experience at the Culver City High School and for each and everyone of us along myself the sophomore class president of Carver City High School and other sophomore class council members they brought up our goal of taking the class of 2025. Bay Farm so we've been really fundraising as much as we can to bring on the the field trip for everyone in the class of 2025 so other than that. Students also mentioned that there's a lot of repairs that have been done thankfully over winter break which are much appreciated with which is much appreciated as well as questioning some other things that we'd like to see fixed like a pothole and this too is that like leaks sometimes I like the where they called the pipes above when the gutters excuse me on the rain gutters because in the hallways it becomes very very 3 in wet when it rains because our school obviously doesn't seem to be met for a rainy weather and superintendents can explain to us that the high school is planning on being renovated in 2024 as we don't really have a budget currently to fix all of the repairs that are needed and what else also the internet connection at the Culver City High School is extremely slow and sometimes interferes with our learning especially if you have lessons online so we had questions with that and the superintendent if you want it go over your other explanations when it comes the internet and repairs. Feel free to adjust a lot of questions and trying to figure out repairs that are needing to be fixed thank you so much for your time thank you and I will is going to continue a conversation about students representative and keep on working backward to address the students at the school side and particularly involving School side leadership as well if I could just die by eating pretty obvious is that we are not going we have no excuses when it comes to teachers and stopped working as late as summer somewhere to go and still having them and I am struggling trying to figure out exactly where things are that just holding us back and I'm trusting that next time we come together we will have more information more concrete moving forward to report to the board the sergeant report which is on the board agenda tonight I will say this in addition to the ceiling tiles that was replaced in the December we're not moving for with a plan to address ceiling tiles and other facility concerned during the spring break in Mystic wind is not here handsome but he has Emergency Family emergencies but his group and I are working together to make sure that we are play find something to keep on carrying carrying out the repair and end the fixing either additional ceiling tied to be replaced or in addition to all of the other fixings of the gutters and things we can do that we take full advantage of the school not being operation doing the the week of spring break we did have an opportunity to review the incoming applicants to become construction managers and project manager for the district and I'm hoping to bring back to the board a a definitive recommendation for kubis and take on the responsibility to support District future construction and project management for the district for the long-term I would like to make mentioned and I will on this one board member as it were in my cell when did get the chance to stop by the middle school this morning and I'm hoping that he would share more details on that with the with a bored as well the superintendent and I'll group is trying really hard to work backward to find out where things are and that is holding up our progress and we're fully aware of the morale survey result calling out certain things and one of those thing is late payment and sometime Miss payment and will bring back some additional snacks that next time we meet together and that is the end of our report tonight thank you we're going to here from our school board and the trustees and then we can start in the same order as always for the evening thank you the first thing that I want to do is just ask I understand that the board president and the superintendent said the agenda but we had some speakers come in a formally asked us to put something on an agenda for a very soon and I want to see if I could get nodding heads to agenda is the resolution that the students are drafting around the green New Deal so I'm looking at 1 okay I've got lots of thumbs up to get that agenda so thank you to those students who and advocated regarding updating our policies with respect to the green new deal I'm also wondering where my search of bullets, as miserable as thank you for coming tonight I'm sorry that we weren't able to hear everything I look senior comments where they fit into our site safety plans that we're currently working on or maybe that we can hear back in a in a Friday report or if it's easy now I don't know if it's any answer I know they're currently being worked on mr. Tran are you ignoring my question it's might be directed toward you do you know where Mr tshabalala's comments that into our School site safety plans are getting worked on currently I believe it has to do with a broader base of training across the board for the see the use of the I'm always have a problem when I was in the d a d and end it is it an addition that he across-the-board the access that is allowing all coaches and anyone who was working with youth in the after-school program those two information we did share that with our support the Education Foundation group but I will go back with Missy chabolla to make sure we follow up with whatever we can do to support of what he had to shake tonight that I know what the solution should be or that I'm expecting some but I'd love to know where we can direct our attention when the School site safety plans, our way to make a determination based on feedback around. So if perhaps that could come Friday report like this part of the school safety plan is the part where we would address the questions that were raised around us and cardiac event on the field or anywhere on the campus that would be great and I really appreciate the response honest trailer Kong regard are teachers not getting paid in a timely manner for a repeated time this year but also yes it has come to us in the past and it's come to us in the past when very strangely out of the cabinet and board the only I was in the room sure that was me and we were getting really but you know it's kind of negative feedback because the process had 17 stops including liquor go and so it's the same it's a long-standing problem is clearly systemic I know it's not all your fault and so I'm super excited to share about like what the structures are that we should put in place which of course these are questions that the board asked in the past due to avoid it so I appreciate the response and what kind of would love some if this point really kind of detailed analysis, we could see to feel confident because it's like triggering to hear again regarding classroom spending the the the board was briefed on this same finding that has been brought up in public a number of times tonight around her were spending less than we stood in the classroom and my interpretation is that coaches and mtss yeah and I know that we've talking already on our own for at least two years about the complete crisis with getting her eyes or position or aides positions in classroom spending and that not only are we I'm doing our very best to make those rates comprable for the region and competitive but we're really putting all hands on deck to figure out how to get many more days in our stop rather than having to rely agencies in pain so on and so forth so she's now it's a priority and will continue to ask many questions to that effect and we're here at we too are hearing from the particular problem around and so babe I'm so please know that we're sharing about got a lot I want to be sure to speak briefly regarding Define may I hope it's okay to take a moment to speak about the shootings in Monterey Park and half moon Monday it's yeah I mean we all know how completely unbearable it is to have to endure trauma after trauma , which kind of strikes me to silence but at the same time with us that's not appropriate considering my role so yeah the multiple of tragedies that occurred on and around the noon hour Lunar New Year to aapi neighbors here in California I genuinely extend my love and my heart in particular to hire API students and families that may be experiencing you need grief beer and more it's also my understanding that some communities what occurs around midnight on the Lunar New Year is indicative of the Year too, and I just I truly hope that this year does not bear that out to be true and I also pledged to continue to fight for stronger gun control laws and for continued again very honestly the patriarchal culture that this very male-dominated pattern of gun violence so I wanted to be sure to recognize that and I know I am a Jedi won't be the only one mr. Smith and I just want to reiterate that we're still hopeful that an action plan for black students will come back in the spring which I'm sure is the plan and I just want to make sure that we do our best to be possible okay but is impossible to have that in the spring so that we can put in place for the new year thank you remember that I don't I wanted to share not this last weekend but the weekend before that was the seat us festival de California vegetation of Cedar Association Festival I just don't want to shout out to it to Lee Hanson Amanda's Moses and a whole lot of parent volunteers who took a group of students to excel in Rancho Cucamonga theater workshops and seeing different presentations I think in a different place and things like that my child who is involved in a PA and that the tech side of things got to go to work shops on lighting and and hear from lighting professionals other Lighting in schools and hasn't stopped talking about it for the last 2 weeks fantastic I'm really glad that they put this together and they were able to support things like that and just increasing you know that opportunity for as many students as possible as it is just fantastic and for them to get out and see that kind of think so thank you very much to everybody involved with that mom I did when I also speak of it to dr. Ken and I are going out and talking to some of the listening actually had some of the schools about inclusion I really want to thank all the staff at El Marino teacher is classified staff support staff and administrators who who are there today I know that it's not ideal timing and I know there are some folks who wanted to participate and a warrant because of the timing of this will not be the only is it that we make and they will not be the only opportunity for people to have some input and share their experiences with that we have scheduled a study session for next week where we're really going to be looking into inclusion and how to fully implemented in a way that meets the needs of students and staff and I wanted to have a little bit of first-hand experience and a the first-hand experiences of folks on that so again we got a couple other ones scheduled not all the times are not everybody's going to be able to make it to that but we will have other opportunities because we do want to hear all the voices on that at this point I appreciate the words that I'm hearing but words don't fix it either and I need to see actions on this I'll talk more about that a little bit later because it impacts other things on the agenda I also just when I can I end with t news about the black families advisory council meeting at Fantastic it's great to see the folks who are on that it's great to see just the kind of connections they have with different communities and Communities Bank so it's it's fantastic that put together so thank you very everybody else is participating in that that and the black student achievement plan my thought on that is is yes and I think this this is kind of our our first foray into this type of a struct and it's it's overdue but it is getting done and that's fantastic I hope that this also kind of lays the pattern and lays the model and teach us about how we can do this for other groups families and students who are also in need you know a Latino families advisory Council something for our own house and Foster youth who are also struggling mightily in with disabilities are not sure if it is especially District advisory committee for fills that role currently but one of the things that I have found as an educator over the years is connecting with our families connecting with our families who are sometimes excluded sometimes have challenges participating is incredibly important they know what their students need they know what they need from the system I'm so thank you very much for shepherding this and I look forward to other efforts like this for some of her they're struggling challenged underserved communities some thank you thank you so much for President List I'd be remiss if I didn't start off by mention the fact that I can be sure that we're all here which heavy parts for the 911 I've lost from s m cycle gun violence on the eve of the Lunar New Year is someone who celebrates the New Year myself it's particularly painful to learn about the committee members we lost Prince and 2nd East or Elders have built our community into a vibrant and thriving places that list today their stories are in the positive businesses and streets of Monterey Park in San Gabriel Valley maybe rest in peace and in power I also just want to take the time to look for what we've done to the Blackboard me they want to think I'm going to Reno for the invite to the Easter. Brown this morning at least a business mean because I just want to make sure that we're meeting our kids names from where they are still to come on campus in to see kids engaging where they put they always have their day and are engaging the next to my learning it was just for the greatest thank you so much for that remember Loretta visited El Marino for their mochizuki event so thank you whoever sends day for that invitation it was a lot of fun to see and interesting to see these children create more memories out of these cultural events that they couldn't have these past two years because of covid-19, bag and it's a know that some of our older students that is like one of their favorite memories to have from Ephraim Elementary School that they look forward to and it is a huge undertaking for the whole entire Community the day programs in the past the to get the equipment to the parents take the the race home to soak overnight and they have all the appliances this team in need and then they borrow other other things from local community to pounds and two in there so many Helping Hands and it's so wonderful to see you while I was there I took a detour over green ambassadors to visit with our who is currently covering for our sustainability committee Greg Marin and party Fajardo and they were angry a green Ambassador curriculum on the batteries and the clean energy for the students and the students were eating every bit of it up and understanding. There's this intersection of them involved in this just a nobility they also were so kind to give me a tour of their garden over there that I had not seen before in part of growing growing great is Austin supported by ccef some of these I met with many folks on cabinet these past two weeks including going to the it's four of the you sure review for project management management and also attended our regular ccusd District my committee such as the special education the AC and the ACT test force and you can hear her in you heard from our assistance things in going on there and also that intersect with Dr Baxter's as services in terms of sheer that we are trying to dress and I also want to highlight for the public that we are because I don't think it was in Culver Pride this past week that we do have this board study session for inclusion master plan on Tuesday January 31st I should be coming in the next color correct and so I hope that there's plenty of interest in that moving forward and we will share more about the location detail and I also saw radpad a jazz combo at Clover City prcs Doctor Martin Luther King Junior is on last Saturday along with two other board members Yahoo were in attendance here and after that there was also a all-district PD on January 17th that I was able to attend for most of it I attended all staff PD Frost as well as the parts of the ecms and El Rincon and there are definitely the beans throughout that we need to address especially with response would being responsive and being cyclical in the ecosystem that we are receiving feedback responding to that feedback hearing again checking in and being able to make it changes and be nimble and be flexible we are hearing things that may be problematic so that we are interrupting any trauma to either stuff of our or our students and I want to make sure that we are being part of that change. I really respect and and I'm thankful to those staff members who have spoken up about things that they want to work collaboratively on and elevating that cuz they can't be easy sometimes and some of you also feel invisible or maybe two feel that your voice is not strong enough for that you know who are you to just say something but I want to say that you know your voice does matter and sometimes it takes so much courage and strength to speak. Because he may be scared about retaliation I really want to focus on your good intent and and we want to make this community work and collaboratively together and remove silos that are keeping us from doing so which brings me to more recently about yesterday I attended the Asian Pacific Island school board meeting on the heels of the Monterey Park and then Half Moon Bay and really what is so tragic and a board member is a Doran I published a joint statement about the shootings because really what the fear is is that this continued gun violence in a place where we should be free to be sharing our culture to be celebratory in bringing I knew your ad be no doctor can put it just right in terms of like you know I hope that this is not a Harbinger for the rest of the year and what does that mean for our students and our families and our community here in Culver City and culturally in terms of this those that celebrate Lunar New Year to be clean those that culturally feel invisible and don't have a seat at the table and don't feel as celebrated and so forth before there they're trying to celebrate to be to be crashed with such a violent just feel so so much more vulnerable in heaven how to how do we frame our school and community events moving forward in a way that that celebrate their culture but also doesn't completely that but acknowledge does the CCH in American native Hawaiian Pacific Islander apparent Affinity groups usually supposed to hold a Lunar New Year event on February 9th it is now evolving into a healing Circle so I am inviting the community to also come and be a part of the healing circle on you don't have to be a parent or Asian-American to be involved you can be an ally to but as long as you are interested in removing the values of the group forward album you are still welcome with her student our or a part of our community as a parent otherwise so I'd also want to just draw the Public's attention at 2 to other one other item besides the inclusion master plan but the study session next week there's also a October talks at cchs I'm on February 8th which is held by ASP and you've heard from some of her student board members or earlier today that auditions have been happening and I just really want to continue to voice tell me I'm also some presenters from the Greater Community other than our students so thank you very much thank you to save some time I am going to skip all the meetings that I can send it in combination with my colleagues so I didn't send meetings with Corbin Bleu where are you we we continue to meet more than 10 hours every week on meeting and we do a lot of research on our own to really get informed to meetings that I was the only one there for meeting is the safety meeting I was in attendance in a safety meeting and one of the things I want to say is this is a new requirement from the state for us to ensure that the state Council has edited and is previewing the safety plan and it was a very Lively discussion and the police literally said this is the usual way that these two Russians going and I just think that it's important for us to understand that Stacey gets to the core of our safety are our most valuable thing that we want that we have our students one of them need to be saved and that's one of the things that I also learned from the meeting on staff morale which is taking care of our most basic need and and I want to invite my fellow board members to really think about every single thing that we do from now on that we think about how does this relay to the most basic needs of our students because they need to be safe when you are already talking about a series of events that just happened in the past couple days and it really saddens me to be at the theaters besting safety but it needs to be discussed and we look forward to hearing more about how each side is disgusting with their school side there are safety plans and that's why I believe these safety plans need them come before us before March 1st I also attended by literacy meeting today and the telepath and we continue to make progress in that direction and the last thing I wanted to talk about is we will be organizing a board retreat on this is an announcement to the community and at this word Retreat we will hear from our evaluator conducted the staff Brown's I were also connected to your room csph and and we hope to really work on something that is part of our school school board of principles living states that our relationship with each other each other staff Community will be guided by the collective pursuit of what of that which we will promote successful teaching and student learning another way our relationships with one another will guide our Collective pursuit to ensuring that each no access to counselors that access to Rich instruction and curriculum and some additional stupor so then they would go into the tier-2 while also still receiving 21 so she wants us to to if our intervention and support still do not move the student where we they wouldn't you be then we would look at it sometimes your degree which means they also get still get your to enter want if either of Yeah right next to it I know maybe over to the left oh I did the same thing would you all like to introduce yourself Highway weekend hello thank you so much president of the board and can you guys give me a present Boyd and members of the board were really pleased to present this to you today my name is salami Conant I'm the director of the program said new Earth and have been working with the middle school high school in the district 2 you know on this big a test that we have been in front of us and we'll go to deeper into it. Good evening my name is Brianna Cortese leave her with new Earth and I work with the care management team on sites at Culver City Middle School in Culver City High School good evening remembers my name is Stephanie Libby lmd director of operations so I'll just start with a little bit of history about who we are so new Earth has been my name is the only grammar I'm the co-founder and Executive Vice President of new Earth we had we are a local nonprofit base here in Culver City and we were founded in 2004 we have been working with the most vulnerable young people throughout LA County young people that have been the justice system young people that are in the foster care system who are at risk for in the homeless system and young people that are at risk for answering these systems so for the past eight years we've been based in Culver City and we have a Center in Culver City which is a wraparound youth Resource Center at the center we provide a high school diploma or high school diploma program wraparound case management and Care Management Services therapy Workforce Development programs Transportation Arts programs and basically everything we can to provide opportunity and enrichment to young people and we were recently by a superintendent school district to help provide Supportive Services in wraparound services in mental health services to the young people in the most vulnerable young people at both the middle school and the high school so that's a little bit about who we are we have a wonderful presentation that wanted to go through which is not coming up there it is yay next line please next so that is our mission statement we provide mental bass art educational vocational programs and wraparound services and Empower at promised use ages 13 to 25 and their families we support news to reimagine their lives move towards positive life choices and discover their Dean as Future Leaders of Tomorrow we are causing cultural check X live please website so one of our sort of signature philosophies is the young people we work with we don't take a cookie-cutter approach we really work with each individual young person and really treat each young person as as a whole person we view our young people is valuable and worthwhile and so some of the key markers that we look at and these are cheap markers in our Latin there 20 years of working with young people this is what we've determined as to Marcus for Success so formally off probation if a young person is on probation we really want to ensure that they're out of system regularly housed as many of you know housing is issued crisis and Lan in Culver City as of late so really looking to make sure that our young people have consistent in regular housing educationally Advanced necessarily, bounds not all of them will be but that they're moving forward in their educational process that they're increasing credit that they're moving towards education employable the way you do Workforce Development programs we do on-the-job training and we really look for way just to get our young people not just working not just having a job but learning how to keep a job and how to move forward in the employment cycle and emotional stability really looking at how do we maintain and Elevate their emotional stability with Darius key markers so that's a little bit about who we are and what we do next line please okay so I'd love to bring up Veronica to talk a little about our clinical Care Management program and what we do on site at the Culver City High School and Middle School so we work with we are stationed co-located on site but the high school middle school five days a week and we have anime Lincare management team so Veronica come on up and and let's talk about what we do there love everyone so yep so I'm the leaf care manager for New Earth are care management team has been Justin Lee working with DD 6 students on campus Monday through Friday just this week that has increased to 130 students connected to you or its services and we provide Care Management provides safe spaces for the students to express themselves their needs and most importantly to be seen and heard with whatever that they have going on a management team provides someone individualized Care Management for each student talk therapy tailored programming that removes barriers for students and identifies underlining risk factors resulting in students truancy girl issues and chronic Apple apps into use them as little as like 2 months from receiving Services the care management team has been able to provide support for students and their overall social and emotional development with a 48 percent increase in Social awareness and responsible decision-making and the students are becoming more and more open with then we'll be able to hear her social emotional development 40% increase in Social Work and responsible decision-making just to name two becoming more open with our staff in relation to their stressors in and out of school other unhealthy relationships with friends and family as well as trauma book experiences with trauma that they've held in for a long time that they're starting to open up an Express and it's really just helping them meet those goals on a daily and there what students are saying things like I want my goals to help me become happier I want to be a better student I know I can do it thank you for listening and so that's what the care management team has been focusing on stop by now like to introduce our director of programs missile on Makonnen thank you and I'll try to speak into the mic so I'm going to talk a little bit about some about enrichment program that's a middle school and high school we've been providing our anchor program which is calling flow is all poetry programmed it is to fluent love of words and it's really something that new earth is known for because we bring culturally culturally relevant programming to the kids and I love hip hop music and we bring all that into the pasture with them and they were able to find new Express themselves in that class we also have a glass pod stage of life which is all about finding really like who you want to become and on this truck is there an amazing they can building really will the boy with the young people and this is a complete voluntary in class and we get a lot of students to show up for that in addition to that we have also noticed a turd in the middle school at the end of last year just called Arden still which is an approach to mindfulness by allowing young people to really explore and Visual Arts with self-expression but it's really to enhance the steps of conversation that we can have with them because middle schoolers don't do Willie talk therapy in that same way but when you give them some beads and some things to do they really enjoy it and they start opening up just are talking about what's going on for them and that's the is Pine I think what we had at North Willie offer is that all instructors have the skillset and to build one before with the young people and oftentimes they not being really fast when they watch and we pride ourselves building in Richmond programming specifically tailored to them we ask them first what do you want to see in your classroom and then we customize that into them we also have been a granted some amazing new space at the school and family support service center do direct Montez we're very grateful for that and we'll kind of making it a team space and Willie longing to be a safe space with the young people in the way it even feels right fluorescent lights and Things Fall Apart from environments don't often feel safe with them didn't read rain because they already had certain this is Darren so really transforming this phase to let them know that there's inclusion here that they are welcome here they were there with them and it will really meeting them where they are rather than imposing all ideas on their learning and it's been going really really wonderful we've had some of the young people self refer themselves and showed up and I'll Care Management office on the high school and said we want to be in talk to you too although they weren't referred by the admins do anything so we're really feel like the students of finally understanding who knew or is it is we've been working collaboratively with the team on the ground Billy the high school and the middle school to ensure that we are a collective and then we pick everybody's concerns to and then we believe a sense of belonging not just for the young people but also for the staff that has been working Pirates must be on the front lines there so I'm with that I want yeah I wanted to talk a little bit about the alternate graduation requirements that has now been reduced to the 120 to 130 but it's north will begin to work with all those 30 students that are on the path to graduation to offer them additional counseling therapy work was development paid work experiences in a gross career Pathways as well as just all about enrichment and Leadership and programming that we already have there on the ground we also will extend that wrap around services and life coaching in addition will be supported not just up to graduation but post-graduation would have matters the most when they're offering time I'm transitioning into the life that these people themselves how will they dad and new earth because we do have a ice and Leadership Center right here in Culver City will be able to maintain that support outside of you know graduation and really believe in like aftercare that this goes on as long as till we deem that young person will be free which is all models of being beaten all those system involved any barriers that that may be cheaper they're so we will really understand that all individualized support to help them get jobs and get them understanding about what it looks like when you go to college when you want to start your own business and really work with them to see what they want and guide them step-by-step she doesn't go to the app and with that I'm going to ask my pug the next in queue hello again so you are just working with 50th and I kind of me so these are the students who have barriers that have them complete School online and not on campus and so are we provide remote wraparound services and asked me if you did resources such as pausing on the other services that we mentioned before like Workforce Development vocational Pathways and Leadership programming and enrichment to discontinue to empower the students in the eye Academy as well as working with their families to make sure that they're supported all around so whole child approach next do Stephanie the village is our director of operations alright one more thing before so we can't lie we have been asked by dr. Smith to be part of the Bible prevention, so they wasn't ready for young people that were part of a fight and basically do this task force we will be providing all of our services are supportive care to real identify prevent reduce and eliminate B so as a member of the task force will also be continuing to provide our counseling and therapy assessment bringing that, inform support you know with common forms which are we're not asking what's wrong with you or asking what happened to you so we're really digging in and really understanding what is at the heart at the root of what's happening with our kiddos and why these sites are happening in a reproach and individualized care Richmond leadership programming a holistic trauma-informed approach to student discipline and really using restorative justice circles as a restorative way to work with our young people instead of punishments were also making our Beyond boundaries nature Expeditions available to our students as well and that's a healing Retreat that we do on a yearly basis and that really prevents and helps a lot with with violence prevention the task force and now it will definitely be able to talk about our attendance counselor initiative next time please do you mean again new Earth will be hiring and dedicated attendance counselor will be on site at Culver City High School in Culver City Middle School students identified at risk or in danger at risk for suspension and or expulsion today to 68% of the referral fees received are due to insufficient grades and poor attendance and as you've already heard that the number spoken earlier near 385 high school students with chronic absences and 182 students in middle school with chronic absences the attendance counselor will be eleison and an advocate at meetings for students families and in partnership with the district and new earth will be working closely with new Earth and our care management team to identify the key barriers that are leading to Chronic absenteeism thank you thank you and lastly but not least right big words
