English Language Development
Culver City Unified School District is home to approximately 688 English Learners (EL) students, with over 70 different spoken languages. Students are identified to be tested for the EL program based on the Home Language Survey filled out by parents when they enroll their children, previous school information, and teacher concerns. When a new student is initially tested, he/she is identified as either Initially Fluent or English Learner, based on his/her English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) test scores, and various other information as mentioned before. EL students continue in the program until they meet the District criteria to be Reclassified. Parents are notified of the test results within 30 days.

Initial ELPAC (Evaluación Inicial)
A child takes the Initial ELPAC when the Home Language Survey indicates a language other than English.

Alternative ELPAC (ELPAC Alternativo)
The Summative Alternate ELPAC provides information on student annual progress toward English language proficiency and is administered to English learner (EL) students with the most significant cognitive disabilities whose individualized education program (IEP) team has designated the use of an alternate assessment on statewide summative assessments.

Once your child receives a 4 on Summative ELPAC or 3 on Alternative Summative ELPAC (criterion 1), they must meet additional criteria to reclassify as Fluent English Proficient (R-FEP).
Una vez que su hijo(a) reciba un nivel 4 en el ELPAC Sumativo o un nivel 3 en el ELPAC Sumativo Alternativo (criterio 1), deberá cumplir con criterios adicionales para reclasificarse como Estudiante con Dominio del Inglés (R-FEP).
