okie doke so I'm going to share my screen real quick with a little bit of delay so welcome it's full thank you all the agenda will be we will introduce ourselves our name and our affiliation to the school we have a very special guest speaker Barry Simon and I'll be telling you more I'll give you an update on what we're doing with Caroline we are working on a new waste setup and other amazing new policies we are organizing America recycles week it's a day nationally but we're making it a whole week of events we just had a meeting with all the school Representatives so that was exciting what's your other project ideas and not men's huntsman's events in are green tip for the meeting and then look at next month's meeting and open it up cuz this is a committee and we definitely want you to participate so I'm can I call your name if you can please unmute yourself and introduce yourself Caroline hi everyone I'm traveling to co-sign I'm a I'm a sustainability consultant I've been working assistance and rain in her role of sustainability coordinator for ccusd it's their third year like you and mr. that this little screen the anyway thank you very much everyone for showing up and I will share my screen again let me just pull up the agenda here we go oops I'm not sharing oh my goodness sorry about that all right so we are very decided to have Barry Simon here he's the president of the United Nations Association Southern California division working with 12 local chapters throughout Southern California advocating for the importance of a strong you and us relationship as well as the Fulfillment of the un's sustainable development goals prep some of you have heard of the sdgs well you're going to hear a lot more and how is this all happened is let me show you they reached out to us to ask us if any students would participate in the summit they were organizing a couple weeks ago and we were so very lucky and proud that two very brave high school students near Cassidy and Abigail I forgot her last name it right now sorry but Mia and Abigail from the high school are included in this video Niger I want to show you it's a minute and a half but it's really worth watching very proud of them if I had a magic wand with a magic wand I would want everyone to be where the environment that surrounds them and make them appreciative of the land that they live on because I think that appreciation is the true answer to change in the world if I had a magic I would hope that everyone is knowledge threat that climate change is to our society in our worlds because I started it as it is the reality right now is that not everyone is even acknowledging it is real that it is science and there are people who still are living in ignorance or in misinformation that are denying that its very existence if I had a magic wand I would re-grow or restore the Amazon that has been before stood burns down Etc or just destroyed it truly is the one weather planet on top of sea ocean DMS on is extraordinaire Lee important to the survival of humans on this Earth that it's really really really really really important especially seeing how the Brazilian government is complete disregarding the forest I had a magic wand and things with the world I would want to give developing countries of better living situation air quality better I don't know where the video when there's so many things that one could do with magic wand I think even just I'm sorry for all the vehicles to electric vehicles or making public transport it doesn't make sense usable for people just getting around open so sorry sorry about that so as you can see this was a 3-hour conference in our students are actually interviewed little by little and throughout the three hours and it's really a great opportunity to have Barry Simon here at work very very pleased to have you thank you for hang in there it's all yours now sorry about the technical issue that's okay thank you so much for allowing me to be with you all today and the students did a remarkable job we had people from college High Schools elementary schools on the videos that were stressed out of that pan and as far as technical technical issues for some reason I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times last couple of weeks buy camera continues to have a mind of its own and turn off from time to time so it will it will happen or it probably will happen and I apologize in advance and hopefully will be too distracting shouldn't happen so again thanks so much for including me send rain to be with you today and with your colleagues from the Culver City Unified School District and environmental sustainability committee yeah just to touch on a little bit more of the climate is now there was October 1st it was really important for me to have time for us to have the voice of young people throughout the program because it's obviously they're the ones that are hurting this mess and and just in the few minutes that I got to listen to y'all during comments ideas in the free meeting what I have to share is so minor compared to the work that you that you were all doing and you know first extended huge thank you I can't imagine what it's doing is there goes my camera I can't imagine what it would be like to have been an educator this past year-and-a-half and working whether to from home on film and trying to get back into class Roman little kids and families and your commitment to the students to work with just remarkable and you know it was up to me to me that the pay raises the pay in the world would have you all paid like NBA players and that the NBA players be paid more like teachers are currently it's just an atrocity so I'm just from the bottom of my heart thank you for what you have all done to make the world a better place by you're committed to the kids job as I said have you an association for the Southern California region with R12 local chapters and the UN Association was started when the League of Nations disbanded they were there have been Community organizations that was there were working to support and Advocate on behalf of the work of the League of Nations when that was complete and the UN started in 1945 Eleanor Roosevelt began working with those former League of Nations chapters and converted them to the UN associate you in a USA and so that goes back to 1947 as you probably all know Eleanor Roosevelt was also instrumental two years later in the UN adopting the universal Declaration of Human Rights which is celebrated on December 10th Uso station is part of the UN Foundation which is headquartered in New York we've never been part of or owned by or funded by the UN itself but can we do 2 made side Society one is in in New York City at usually in February at the UN in the General Assembly Hall in about fifteen hundred of our members in attendance and being talked with talk to buy dries diplomats and other people involved in various aspects of un agencies and then in June usually in person when possible we meet in Washington DC and Lobby we're about five or six hundred run numbers that come to Washington we meet with almost every Senator and literally almost every representative to congress lobbying for the importance of Education Human Rights the importance of full funding of the peace Kitty as many as you know the peacekeepers around the world that are that are that the UN provides our volunteer soldiers from other countries they are not American soldiers do the peacekeeping missions save American lives and and so those are very important we surely Lobby on behalf of that and then we also working communities for the Fulfillment of the sustainable speaking of the stable with Robert Goulet I want to interrupt or pause for a moment and show a three-minute video about the sdgs men if you were probably here with them so hoping it will be two redundant but it'll be a little bit entertaining and priests as well I believe I can share my screen and so give me a moment to do that kind of urine do do do where do I get back on yes may I apologize since they do for it okay actual delegate very time if they're so I hopefully you enjoyed that little bit of a video and I imagined all of you were already familiar with sdgs if you are interested in these postcards that are available from the UN a happy to send the supply of postcards to the schools or too many of the teachers as possible the state calls the global balls and 17 goals past form the world when you mentioned in the pre-meeting about buttons and other things to help promote awareness of climate and went to school today there is also a fortune cookie your fortune fortune tellers your other little things you fold it up and opened up with different answers and the four corners of those are also available in English and Spanish I told you could ask questions to get the answers what are the what are the goals and a great way to learn the goal specially for younger people so those are also available through through us through the you and I want you and Foundation that were pulled apart of the the global global climate event that took place on October 1st was a pre-event to the cop 26th event that all of you have probably probably familiar with the top 26 event will officially be taking place October 31st through November 12th so there might be certain programs on that on that agenda that you or certain classes may want to be listening into or recording for for your educational purposes and to raise further awareness the UN Association here in Southern California and has 12 chapters there's also campus clubs at UCLA Northridge College State Fullerton and many other campuses membership in the UN a is really really reasonable it's free up to age 25 and then the first year membership is currently $25 for the first year and I made $40 a year thereafter there may be some changes in membership rates coming up in the first of the year but that's how it stands right now and you can go to you and a hyphen SoCal. Org you in a usa.org for further information on the Southern California division of our chapter events are listed there as well and also on the national website in joining or further information about the again my compliments to the California Unified School District and the environmental sustainability committee on what you're doing and just a little bit that I heard if what you're doing Culver City is being copied in school districts across the country across the round-the-world we have nothing to worry about because actions are being taken from 14 year olds 12 year old 16 year old Shirley Greta and Alexandria villa villa senior I've made a huge huge contribution to raise me awareness and creating the activism of younger the younger generations and do for me older guy but as one of the older people certainly I missed call anyway it was just really such great fun to be working with young people and creating videos can be created for that event on October 1st you might ask yourselves how can you make more of the difference jerk committed to and so part of what I would be sharing might be redundant you've heard these things before and who am I to be telling you are sharing with you how to maybe make more of a difference in the area that you're already so engaged arrogant of me to think that I could contribute something in that world but let me try in addition to the postcards and the fortune tellers that I mentioned there's also a fdg pins I didn't put my dog on right now is in a hurry and I didn't put my nice round pen with 17 colors on each color represent in one of the sdgs and they're not expensive if any of you want one I would send ten of you up in complementary other than that you have to order something are you at UND bookstore be Beyond there's several environmental science summer camps as you probably are aware for high school kids with programs that run a few weeks or All Summer Long some of those projects are hosted by or created by projects abroad organization called that go echo or go beyond I would bound and many other organizations think that you're all I'm sure familiar with I found that the program is offered to the UCLA Institute of environment stain ability and yeah maybe play with this as well you probably are the green Sparks program at UCLA green Sparks age to literally spark the imagination of high school kits and enhance their interest in the environmental World they sponsor green shorts Richmond side not apparel it says Shore and it's the green shorts program encourages students who tell him borrow no stories through short film can get really creative with their annual a short film competition and and learn a lot about real science in the process to Showcase their projects that short films in a virtual contest I think the presentation of the winning award the winners was in June of this year and is also how far is available from UCLA to work with individual students or groups of students the the comments did LeBron win with sharing earlier and so play with these but bugging idea was a is a great idea what are most popular in the most popular high school activities for many years has been the model un programs and not sure if any of the schools in the Culver City School half a mile you have in their school that's a that's a great program and information necessary to establish and run a model un is available through the UN a or the UN and course all over the internet there are a few points to consider in creating about a un for your school first you have to find a teacher who is interested in being the advisor or the guide to that group and the teacher would encourage students participate with students referred to as delegates when the teacher could give lectures on Pacific un or other International topics create a study guide and study groups to discuss various issues for example back to be fire to a model un conference in your area I had the opportunity to speak at a model un conference in Orange County or two ago had school and probably 30 different schools representing three different countries and these kids were so brilliant and what they knew about the countries that they were represented they were delegates of and the rules and the system but they were trained in just like a u n program and it was just really inspiring to to to watch that to see that happening at other ways that the sustainability committee could benefit the students and maybe already done this as well running an essay contest in your school or among the schools in the district was also looking at that perhaps creating posters that go straight energy-saving or climate reactions that the students and their families could take on so you can really let your creative Juices Flow hopefully this gives you a little sense of some of their ideas and some of the work if you and AJ and our programs provide in the community the chapters put on events locally and in Partnership sometimes with some of the college campus of programs and you know anyone is available you're all at your invited to our meetings with Sandra and email our database with her permission and and anybody else that would the tear my email is Barry Simon una at gmail.com I've been involved with the United Nations Association sent the 60th anniversary of the UN in 2005 professionally I'm a stockbroker investment advisor so I've been a volunteer with you in a 460 it's a great opportunity Shoppers everywhere if you were interested in getting involved and some dope open that gives you a sense of the breadth and scope and depth of our work or I thank you again for the students that you provided to the video shows that you are able to see and if you're interested in the full three and a half hour program we can send you that link as well if you're interested in that and just really thank you I have some questions for me and I try to answer them thank you so much. Does anyone have any questions for very about the sdgs is everyone familiar with what those are right I think we we didn't go in-depth in that but they might be nice to it have that as a reminder because it's a it's a global initiative and maybe it'll allow us to see the the scope of what you're working on and then maybe think about it for re our district and how that fits in what the sdgs came about on the heels of the mdgs there were eight Millennium development goals the UN basically right onto the world in the year two thousand witch were intended to be fulfilled by 2015 as 2015 came about a game you got closer and closer the Denver conference is held all over world there's like seven Regional conferences in the world where communities came together and express what are the issues that are most on their minds and so we're the mdgs is basically the UN committee is deciding you should be the gold the sdgs really came out of the people on the planet and all that all those conferences all the results and surveys on that were compiled put together resulting in these 17 stay old volleyball they each have your answers as was briefly mentioned no poverty ending hunger a good health and well-being quality education Dairy quality clean water and sanitation you know probably about about 1/4 about a quarter of the planet does not have sanitation or a toilet so the need for these things on a planet is enormous the the sdgs the chapters locally put on a dance that mostly focus on one or more of the sustainable development goals and there has been progress medications that slow in my personal opinion the u.s. is dragging its heels unfortunately much of the leadership and on both sides of the aisle has been really spineless in actually stressing the need to address these areas and you know for many years the part of the problem with the Millennium development goals was it it was like the the big countries were the the the devel countries pointing to those smaller less developed countries on what they need to do to clean up their act this is actually been Take It On by countries in a much bigger way where in the where in the u.s. is there hunger that we need to do some look at the homelessness in our own town and that the poverty right here in Southern California. The mass of the oil spill in the South Bay put it on with what we need to do right here at home thank you you have a question yeah so very thank you so much this is very interesting I have been attending a lot of a consultation meetings that has been happening all through the year in preparation for WHO news report for cops when he 6 which is stating that climate change is a Health Emergency on the planet and so I have attended live worldwide Regional meetings and so I'm so excited to hear that there is actually a US version of the UN which I didn't actually not know about so thank you for all that you do and so I am very familiar with the sdgs and the scorecard that the oven you do with Jennie Miller and the global climate Health Alliance Community do participating through her guidance and everything she connects us to including Who and the UN and what I am aware of is that very difficult to attend a cop the cops 26 meeting at all unless one is part of a delegation or anything like that and I have found it just really inspiring as my son professor at Cal State Northridge and I teach sustainability at The Graduate level including other things and so it's really inspiring to attend events like that and I was wondering if there's an opportunity you can provide or provide that's real simple cuz he stinks and get very complicated as I've learned in the past year so that the students in our district for might be interested can they join your delegation and actually virtually attend cop26 event I think it's inspiring I think it drives and I think you do the time is now as cop26 is trying to see as we've all been preparing for for cop 20 which starts as you said at the end of October is there something you can offer any of our interested students to join maybe you're a delegation to actually attend a cup 26 parts of the meeting cuz I know it's hard I don't know how I would attend one myself yeah that's a great question Rania and if you could put your you got my email address if you can send me an email I will send you personal straight away a response with a few names of people you can contact on that I know that one of our representatives from our Hawaii delegation is also on the Human Rights Commission will be attending cop I know some representatives from San Diego chapter have attendants and are attending another members that are attending so the end and I'm giving the most of it will be on. It'll be on Zoom that I'm hoping that a lot of it will be accessible to a broader audience so that I send you a link right now I would send you a names of a couple of people that you might reach out to where that I can reach out to and relate the response to you for how you might do to participate in this year's I would appreciate that for the student particularly in this committee that are interested in being a part of things cuz I know it's not easy and I know I have not been able to find myself a way to get in but if you're and I also know that a huge message that all of us are been fine the move to break the top 26 in the negotiations of the conference of all the parties meaning all the governments of the world is to involve the use and so you play a huge role and I would love for you to help us take our students Guido's on this committee to cop26 thank you yeah that's great thank you boarded us this opportunity to have you buried without it I would probably never have had to have someone from the outside I think that's the idea in this in this committed us to bring different perspectives and ideas so thanks for your interest with that so we're looking at our water bills our energy bills right now we're still working on getting a landscaping survey for Lynn how in order to save water and money of course always and that's what sustainability is about is that having you know larger-scale projects operational projects that will help the school district reduce their impact but also how much they and on these cyresource is so we did receive the West Basin grants for two new water bottle filling stations and they won will go to La Brea and the other Linwood how it takes a little while how to get these installed but at least we've gotten for free and if if you know that any of your water filling stations are broken or need to be replaced come to us cuz we can also try to figure out how to get you one I said there's a whole Coalition of students from the high school coming together to write a green New Deal this is really one of the highlights for me this is the start of year is that there they're putting it together they're going to meet with the board members they're going to come to the board and the superintendent to share their ideas and their desire to have a green New Deal they came to us for some support so we've you know made some suggestions but it's entirely student-led we also just a little bit further down we were supporting the human watch Club they are we met with the clean power Alliance as you are all well aware from other meetings than our main campus which is High School Middle School Farragut Street of dropped off the CPA and we're back at 30% and the students are really wanting to see this campus back at 100% Renewables we're Gathering all the information for the board to reconsider the change that happened a while back so we met with all the board members individually to chat about us 10 ability they made us some great recommend chickens and connections and so we're going to integrate those as we move along this year we have Dan Phillips here from work ability the idea this year to really partner with other groups Equity is an environmental justice are very much part of the fabric of what we are doing or what should we should be doing and so the equity committee hasn't started again but we're on their radar for when they are when they do meet again we will be part of those conversations and then working with den den I don't know if you want to just for a second sure what we've talked about and how we want to work with your students in in your program sure well you know we were kicking around a lot of ideas at this at this point you know I weave weave weave you know I think the idea is to you don't teach them you know what we're what we're working toward with the environment and sustainability but also incorporating some you don't work based skills for them so we've talked about having them involved on the school campuses just kind of you know monitoring the the recycling stations and kind of being ambassadors for for what we're working on it I think also just kind of creating some visibility for my students on their end and just you don't care just just hoping that they can be the hardest part of the project we're still kind of identifying way for them to get in there and intent of building a match so that's the students you know how to have coaches in I can be paid to do some work and so the idea that we had is having the students monitor our trash stations at the high school cuz that's where their base but throughout the year because there are in after your area there are three stream trash cans with signage and they're really beautiful and my predecessors Shay got a grant for that and they're all over the high school and middle school but there are plenty of other are where's trash cans are sort of floating and there's one blue one there and one black one there and we all know that if those bins are separated then the trash you know it'll be trash and all of them and so just to have some consistent I think I'm done students in the workability program they they can help us really make sure that we set up a proper system in that is supervised and then I'm for America recycles day we're going to talk about that I live in a little bit but anyway we're we're happy to be working with you and any other you know any other group that wants to work with sustainability committee please come to us with ideas as we love to collaborate okay back to what we're doing in the last two years we have put together best practices around those areas of focus within sustainability that you can find on our website page ccusd. Org / sustainability and so we've done water and waste and now we're doing energy this year so we're going to gather all the information we can about energy in General so it goes from the macro to the micro and you can find out how what it means within the school district this mean of the energy best practices so if you have never looked at our water and waste please do it's a wealth of information we we spend a whole school year doing it and it's on our website it's on that sustainability page so feel free to consult it and thanks to Justin Caroline there really driving this effort so we are lunching and Mister Chen I'm not sure if I'm not going to put you on the spot but I'm hoping that this memo will go out very soon about now we're calling it a new way setup and it's obviously a setup that's been in here before but we're kind of revamping it and trying to bring some freshness to it so we are calling it the new waste and we're working really hard with this city and Chanel can attest to that to make sure that what we're communicating how we're setting it up internally and how how everyone in the system is going to be involved affected it will you know there's an educational parts and then there's the back end which is the operational part in this is ongoing work and this is the flyer that the custodians are going to receive and so it really it's written in English in Spanish you know a lot of visuals that a lot of information on it and they'll be a lot of training with Hilliard janitorial company so you know we I think focusing on America recycles week so if you're not familiar with this every year Nationwide there's America recycles day which is November 15th lands on a Monday this year while we're turning in it into a week and we just had a meeting about it and it's kind of exciting we are thinking of having students at the gas stations during their lunch breaks in the different schools from K through 12 we're listing the environmental clubs at the high school but we have all of our liaison tears for the different elementary schools end the school representative and we're going to try to focus on having those stations observed and and helped the students with separation and then the participants at this meeting came up with all these other ideas and I'm hoping that we will be able to do something very successful at each each of us at our level so yes running one second I'll get to you in about this and then so we're having there's three hopefully three members going out from the district one is about our new way setup and getting those liners the district going to buy them for all the schools and so the school it won't be on the expenses the individual School the other two programs that we want to push that will happen more starting January 1st 2022 is the plastic production especially in the cafeteria and then are green cleaning products which we worked hard with Hilliard to set up a list of existing products and the green certified alternative that are custodians will be able to order from I think it's important to have a you know Health a healthy environment not only for our custodians first and foremost are using them back for our students and teachers that are there so everyone should benefit from that and plastic reduction you know that's a big one and we'll all be talking about that more at the next meeting I'm going to stop sharing runyon's you want to ask you a question my hand was up from before I'm so sorry I was losing the wrong buttons I'm so sorry no no no problem is does anyone have any separated in these three ways I Know It Love by Jana just to take an exam there are not three different bins out there so I'm just wondering if you could take us one step further about the gigantic bins to get emptied by the city track are you saying though that inside the school there are it's right outside the school in the parking area there there are those big bins that got picked up by the trash like empty by the trash truck if there is not a blue bin and an organic bin and a black bin how does it work last year they had the three streams and Tony and Tony showed me how to do it he was doing it as it might have been the year before starting my first year last year did no one went to school really selfie yes but that's not my question my question is this city we are working with Chanel and James Fletcher right now they they had done an assessment and there they are viewing it right now cuz we found a few things that we need to double-check with them so it's being done right now it's if you're bringing this up right now I think this is a good place some Personnel to take note also that bayona doesn't seem to have one of the bins is that correct one of the colors maybe it has changed I will try and be mindful when I go by next week and and report back but that's my my recollection I hope I'm wrong when I went to visit it with Tony at the long time ago but now I don't you know we are we I think our schools are all set up but I I can't be up we're so if you all can have eyes on the schools for me that and then let me know I can help then work we have a very strong partnership with the city and environmental programs and their amazing and getting stuff done and in fact we're we're meeting with them in visit next week I think Caroline yeah the city if any of you are interested the city is organizing a a meeting to do Gus SB 1383 about it's a climate climate to Bill but it's focused on food waste and it's very it's a big deal. City the district the states has to its being mandated to have the three screens and so I'm inviting all of you here to join us invitation I can just add you to the calendar invitation is there anything else you know that I don't mean to put you on the spot is there anything else you want to add her no there's nothing else I think definitely is it would be important mesp 1383 is huge not only that it's diverting organic and having two screens as far as what we'll do the 3 train so play Organics in trash but also it has a food recovery component into that's going to be also an important aspect within the school district because the school district will be required edible food is there hopefully the kid will talk about that a little bit next week as well and make sure we have a partnership but didn't mention yeah that great I I forgot that to mention that part about the recovery the city has them they got a grant and they they have a new trucks that can manage like bringing food from one place to the next end reached out to our food services Julie was here before the chat to hop off so she she'll be watching this on video but I hope that we can support the city important I'm curious yeah great, and I think that access it it is sustainability for La Fiesta La by owner Buy Culver City will be running a bike valet so that people can actually ride their bikes to or like other people who like maybe who serve on this District could like make a video like that because it really inspired us and it was so touching like the way you were talking about it and so I wanted to say that first and then also for the city bus program they actually like reached out to a SD and we created a video I don't know if you guys have seen it it was shown to like all the students during I don't know if you guys know about Center plus but it was shown during that period and it was more like just like a encouraging video so that like students could see that students actually do they send my go to and it's like really amazing of a program and just like China educate students to that this is like a program that they can attend because or like utilize because a lot of people don't know that and I was in the center of class class while it was playing and so many people were shocked that this was a program so yeah I just think we just need to like try to get as many people to know as possible because I think it will be used and it would also be great because in the green new deal like I was actually one of the people who was like in the process of creating that and one of our goals is to get the bus program to occur for like more than one year because it's only free for I'm pretty sure this year so as long as we can like get that information out to as many as soon as possible Mike gets into do that then like I really think that next year we can also get the free breakfast program but yeah I just meant to say that that is so great thank you so much for your warm words and then also sharing because I think when have students share what's really going on in the campuses then we know we can we can take action and make you do improve our systems and I think communication that's why I love our committee and this form is that we can all come together we're helping you guys fix like toilets and and faucets that are broken because you come to us here I apologize again for the sound of my sound system I'm still living in a in a non Furniture unit here so if it sounds echoing everywhere so we are looking at in the first of all I have now the additional attention that we do need to pay attention to our bathrooms at the school so we working on that as a superintendent something that's a little bit embarrassing that we still have not managed to provide decent clean and Wells Stockwell Supply Dunn bathroom so we moving on that as quickly as we can and I believe there's some Services have been that's been provided but let me let me keep on tracking that. Make sure that is to the level of expected services for our students the district is moving on sustainability in the very shy we say to the ground level and I think I had this cough did you share with cendrine when when I first came on board food is one we would like to very much locally source of food and to the extent possible food should be prepare and transport it without any kind of long-term Refrigeration that would be adding more to the energy consumption as well as carbon footprint we're looking at how much water will using a crossover District No matter how much we using or how little we use in water we could always do better the water consumption this is a priority and what tracking insect life date on that as well energy any kind of bus or a car a vehicle is transporting bucks to provide services the district is looking at way to make sure that we we have a plan to convert them into electricity electric driven vehicle not the best source but at least it's a cleaner sources of energy the paper the amount of paper we using 210 school district is it could be last and it must be last hoping that there will be a plan a gold as someday we would be running school without using hardly any paper at all we are the in the in the Digital Universe at this point so that is a goal that we stated forward with the board as well the cabinet group in Endwell principles a green would like to intrude if I had my way I would go and beg for money everywhere and just buy 20 thousand trees every year and just keep plant them everywhere all over the campus so that week green of concrete if I could use that phrase I like but not least it should be absolutely mindful of how we dispose about electronic waste which is has been somewhat not us much of an attention but the the rate of electronic usage and we have triggered massive amount of heartache and headaches and environmental damages to other country not necessary to ask but to other country thing that we could do so within the scope of the district year 1 year to year 3 we are beginning to take inventory and we have quite a bit of a cloud out there we are a hundred forty million dollar year budget district and the buying could be used to redirect the a better production and by the way I almost forgot plastic is a big one every time we see something that is purchase that is plastic we looking at way to can we do without it can we do with something other than plastic so we're working on all front and I am welcoming the officer for us to shake hands with all of the organization and in all of the interest group all of our teachers and students the the contacts recycles is well-established but even then we're still struggling to try to make it as as as to the ground solidly as possible so let's just move on all the front and at this point I'm not as directly involved as I to be but I just want to make everyone aware that I'm I'm on it and then went is out I'll leave person on the sustainability but he and I are we are working closely together to make sure that we don't lose track of what we can do now and so without arguing go back to the to the committee this is music to my ears mr. Sean it's slow slow pace to do things but as long as we have goals in and work towards them I think our committee weave weave weave touched on a lot of what you're talking about but I think you you give hope and data you know vision for all of this so we we stand side-by-side and if we did have to be behind you to get this done and they're you know we we are looking at you like you're a pre-programmed you know maybe working with three people but then we realized that every every time we went to tackle something there's all these other considerations that are are complicated to change her or to adopt so it's really it's me and visioning the systems behind all of this Caroline and I went to the cafeteria Julie was so kind with Mark to show us how it works and you know when you look at a tray practically everything is wrapped in plastic even including the Apple that our students eat it is actually hands wrapped by our our staff ccusd stuff and so you know with the considerations that the cafeteria has in the health department you know we have to be mindful of that while we also see what we can do a lot of students say it tastes like cardboard and so they end up throwing it out anyway and then they throw at it they throw it out in the trash or the composting because it is food but is it wrapped in plastic and it hasn't even been undone so I think yes looking at the details as how we're really going to do it and so it's an and we're trying to do it with this Committee in in the last year or so thank you for sharing thank you I may add that I did receive an invitation to speak to our the new green the green New Deal student group and my my office will be reaching out to set up a time for us to meet so that for coming soon and I apologize I think it was 2 days ago when I received the invitation and I didn't get the chance to respond to you guys quickly but we'll get there the green New Deal. There's a very strong song sent from like the sewer system and it's just not tolerable and all the students passing through that Hall have to like smell it and it's it's just terrible I don't know who's in there where can you explain exactly where so first call is like this since the first part of her so like there's a passageway like this in between 4 the first part of first, second part of first hole okay here that the sinks weren't working for it but like they finally worked and then on this side cuz there's like a lockers along this side do you get one sorry I I can explain this really well in your classroom because the Customs have numbers so no I think it's in the hall that has like the sixties so like he calls this one and then there's a passage wait in between the first first one and the second second the first for the second personal I'm so sorry there's like walkers at this and then there's a boys bathroom and when you walk past that it's just a terrible smell and like it all in for them in them you know there's all sorts of reasons why that happens but one of them could be that we're clogging the toilet send you no throwing the trash out you know that maybe the tampons are things that's so maybe maybe having your ESC committee more awareness about not throwing anything in toilets that would help the system cuz the system sold at but it's also I think we're we're kind of abusing bathroom has a problem with that I don't know if anybody if anyone heard about that but I just want to let you know thank you yeah I will look into and you know what maybe we could say thank you to Mike Corrigan more often cuz he's doing all of this hard work and I feel like some of the those staff members you know like Robert Quinn you know they they really work hard which is in Santa Monica and silver like a club of it on our campus and like the purpose of the organization is to make our local coastlines and Watershed State Berkeley healthier their science advocacy Community Action education and that's a car clubs purpose as well and will I be doing that to clean up and I go Shinto Ernest days and I invited speakers from heal the bay should I give reusable cafeteria setup and then the students you know bring their dishes all the food goes into this giant mixer which then goes into the back of the cafeteria in the hydrator dehydrator and they dehydrate the food and then they I don't know if they sell it but they make feedstock they're making food for animals and also using it for agriculture and its very Innovative system and I think our school district could benefit envisioning something much bigger than what we have because we don't actually we don't want to stay in the Disposable World whether you know we take the plastic around the apple or not I think we want to have more of a reusable World in fact the city just adopted a waste reduction regulation and all restaurants in Culver City starting first of January 2023 for all restaurants with dine-in customers so people who sit in their restaurants whether you're a fast food or not we'll have to have reusable food where and this is kitchen where it's very cute for any City I think we're only one of four in the whole state of California Culver City is Rockin into terms of being green policy so we went to you know we went to be there with the city cuz I don't know Chanel are the laws applicable in that case to the school district for like the waste reduction regulation I'm not sure but we would hope to jump on board I mean my first initial reaction is yes but definitely I probably have to bring that and thought that actually would be part of this program and others yeah I know I mean it's great that MSP 1383 is here because we have to comply let's comply
