okay welcome everyone my name is Sandrine Cassidy and I am the sustainability coordinator for the district and at the head of the environmental sustainability committee I'm so pleased that you're coming here to might even though school is closed and will get a chance to go around and introduce ourselves and we have a special guest and we could wait a couple of minutes or we could the introductions Maybe if you want to go ahead Caroline and Caroline and diffuse sustainability consultant and I have been helping out sending in her position as a sustainable Adriana I am John Iko please volunteer at Linwood how part of the green Ambassador that started this week and I do all the green thing thank you Julie Angela Garcia the director of food services for Co Pasadena thank you Anthony Anthony Loreto normally license active participant in this place I'm here as their proxy their representative Jim do you want to introduce yourself now or we have a special slide but go ahead and he got me so I might as well have hired a happy to be here in just a minute I need a walk and rollers hi everybody I'm Greg Marin I have two kids at El Marino and I'm number of our newly-formed El Marino green committee thank you g hi everyone I'm G locket and IMDb founder / teacher of AP Environmental Science Explorer the high school now it's great to meet you thanks for your happy to have you David Holly do you want my name in Ally and one of the assistant principals at Corbin City Middle School great thank you Lisa reply I am reading PJ Communications thank you for joining us I guess Lisa Hanna calling him we had a little technical difficulty hearing you going to try that again the bird from a bayona I thought. You kids going to be talking about all right you so much well let's let me go ahead and share my screen so welcome as 2021 washes away and we dive into 2022 I went I wish you all a very happy healthy and Sustainable New Year there is turmoil right now in The First beginning of the year but we're here together and we get to share about ideas in terms of the school district and how he can be greener so thank you for joining us and being part of this committee so we did the introductions will have Jim shanaman guest speaker in a minute and Jim welcome to stay for the meeting or APA as whatever your schedule permits I'll give you a coordinators update talk about the ESC subcommittees the students were plan attending to talk about their Green New Deal is well as a SD ESC hopefully they'll join us other information and events and then share the next meetings and then open it up to so without further Ado we have Jim Shannon he's celebrating 10 year anniversary for walking rollers which seems unbelievable and so there's going to be a big event in care to share what what will be going on go ahead and thank you Sandrine and I'm really happy to be here this is one of the meetings if always on calendar and I so rarely get to participate so it's it's great to be here anyway but I especially appreciate the time to be able to talk about our introduction most of you probably know me if later on with Culver City so formally at work with all the schools on encouraging people to walk bike and ride to school anything other than driving that program is technically kind of on hold right now but we have camping facilities take me to the schools and they're doing what they can do know is that that is only one of the projects that we work on we actually work and various projects throughout LA County and in Orange County of Riverside county is well in this is our 10th year I'm in really excited about that as you can imagine we started right here in Culver City our first project and we grown from that we've worked with thousands and thousands pictures and we just want to celebrate so we'll be at the vending then. Sorry I got that wrong every time the vendor Museum on March 19th the time is 11 to 4 and we have all kinds of activities and it'll be ready roll arm will have a SIM DJ music all day will have food and be free for the participants will have a bike skills course we'll have bike repair clinic at happening dispenser come to bring the bike and Will Repair estate in bike repair work shops as well I will be doing group rides still have some group leaders and ride Marshals will be taking groups on kind of big giant figure 82 at 10 in the morning to head off in One Direction they come back to the vendor between 11 1130 they had off in the other direction for another loop all goes well we'll have a stain on waterproof and all things to stainable I'm and then back of the events I was behaving BMX demonstration got a cruise is coming in and we'll be working with pro scooters in Pro BMX riders and then also on South Benson Skeeters a roller-skating demo be happening so definitely bring your skates and you get a free lesson while you're there. And of course we'll be having to park projects for the kids are going on I'm at our website we just got to page up so we have some basic currently on that website and yeah we won't be having announced registration yet so that's not open because we're doing bike giveaways and so we want the kids that are going to get be getting bikes register for make sure they secure space on to watch the announcements on that one of the big things are really pushing on this is the whole thing of course with walking rollers is to not drive right so it's very costly weather all this dirt in the bility coordinators is not a laundress Susana is apparent in Santa Monica we work together on schools in Santa Monica and how we can make this as we have an event is possible he know we are at the and that we asked them about their policies and they don't really have a specific policy in place because he doesn't have a specific policy for themselves until they don't really have any requirements but besides the obvious that have the compost in the landfill and recycling bins what else can we be doing you obviously weren't encouraged people to not drive the event we like to look for some all the turn it is we'd like to have Renaissance and worthiness in Phoenix building committee possibly even table or hand out information or four people to a website for more information on how best to be sustainable your conversation so we're here I'm here to now and present at the bench and all this but also to listen and see if anybody has any really great ideas and then we can do dinner committee as well is anybody if you have any questions I'm happy to answer them if you'd like me to go on and what detail about the event or what we do I'm happy to discuss this it just popped in what was it yesterday so I'm not really prepared to do a full presentation I'm been happy to answer any questions anybody might have or I see the other solution so without that in mind load me up some great ideas and what else you can add event and really push this inability concept out there I am here. I think I'm covered it all I'm here as a Santa monica-malibu School and I'm a volunteer leader and I'm here to support and to learn from you and I will and not expecting something care I have one idea can you guys hear me I see there's an how are you good so of Slovenia and they have Avenger it was it was actually be honest it was a huge City and that the event is every Friday during the summer and all the restaurant from the city come and they have Farmers Market but just for restaurants as if you were, they're too busy to have dinner and everything that they use that you are so everything is like 2 3 4 5 year olds and you get in a different foods and they from all around the world as it was really cool event but it would have got me there was one of my favorite places I've been to is that after we ate everything was served paper or what container and all this the utensils that we're also would as well and then they were also serving wine but it were in a glass you return it once you finish now the trash cans WeChat was really cool that we're only into areas and this is like a huge event right just like you know and there was a human sitting and that human will have like a nice you know I'll feel like looking sustainable person here and you woke up to the trash can and the person will help you to where to put the trash the dress go and not all around suspect they're only in those two areas where that the people were sitting and we will walk up and you know they would politely direct you how to do it correctly I thought it was brilliant so I actually tried it one time and then one house and you have a little bit intimidated we were kind of smiling and you know they actually thought that idea was really good like even like this to start and I hope the whole Cooper City. that's a great idea I love the idea of having an S order on-site you know it's great to have been that's what I really want great I'm having bins and signed is one thing but actually having some guidance so that we clear up things like you're in any specific where it goes so I think depending on what we end up having on-site I think that's a great idea so I'm obviously not going to be glass wooden paper are passing is not going to be allowed at Stokes we're working towards that so thank you that's awesome right Guardian glass when you're around adults but we're in a parking lot and brazo on in the garden space at the bend us so how many people are you expecting we would love to see 150 people on site and it may be a little bit more and maybe a little bit messed that would be the ideal goal I mean I I know we have a meeting next week to talk about this but I was going to suggest that I'm defending Museum sign up for the Culver City sustainable business certification program I don't know if we can accommodate them right now but they in I think I talked to you last year but anyway I think we could probably do museums because we've done theaters and we did both the Kirk Douglas and actors getting and I was the assessor so I could also help them and that's a free program for them to sign and I could have all of the guidelines and the resources to and then they have their funding from the state so that was one of the recommendations I was going to give you next week but they might as well just fine up now We can't agree it's putting the program and I think getting them in touch with that I think send me the information yeah I have I put the Lincoln but I I could send you an email with all the highlights and benefits that they would is it my is it is it my side that is no I hear that your own gym okay okay great I mean any other questions comments suggestions Greg I gym it sounds fantastic. calendar you know that you were talking I went and I'm thinking about you know it's now the bus that's helping can I ride my bike and he let you know so I haven't but I believe it stops in Michelle's here so she probably very close by I think some of us you know can learn to use it and you know and be able to come by here if you haven't taken a ride on it you know it's another way to learn about sustainable activities in downtown area just just about the last up for what is Madison a little farther away so close but you know. Maybe 4 Dago running a little further I mean I don't think we're big enough for important enough then to reroute their whole thing all around us but for one day she can introduce ourselves hadiya very quiet yeah yeah you'll be happy to know that on our website we encourage people to take Expo train and the bus line can we listen to the different bus lines that service Nevada as well as a link to your website hopefully I will help encourage healthy but yeah let's make the circulator go a little further for one day can we do that I will ask those of you who don't know me I hope there is not my name is Tina Turner and I handled Community engagement and marketing for the Culver City transportation department in answer to that question I will certainly go back to the team and see if there is something that we can do because obviously we're very proud Navarre minibus that is electric and sustainable in that fashion so I will see if there's a way we can partner with you and maybe create some sort of a park-and-ride scenario where some of the participants can ride the circulator and maybe we get all of them in service during the event so I will certainly look at that and I am on the call in case anyone has questions about the repair or transit or other issues in the city so happy to call me out whenever you need me to come up thank you dear I just made me think that what if you know because the students can ride for free and the parents pay a dollar but maybe around the event that the parents ride for free this one I see everything and I could we have done in the past where we created a special pass for an event and then people can come in and and Flash the past and and get to the event on the bus for free so I will look into that and see if there's a way to make that happen for this at the amazing it and they can put their bikes on the bus bike racks on the bus on the actual bus there are bike racks on the circulator vehicle there are no well that's a great way I get to this event and obviously encouraging people to use all the other alternative transportation so what can we do besides making some recommendations for to make the event sustained I guess some you know maybe the city the transportation department can have a a table there as well to promote the bus Free Fair bus program a b c r you've requested and I think they've accepted the sustainability committee or we could we be the ones that help with sorting and kind of awesome I don't mind at telling people what to do and you know what I think would be great time to talk about the new law for Compass still so maybe that's a gram for the city to show up the the compost bin. Maybe environmental programs could joining I've seen you know different departments at the same table and helping the community with different programs so it up that's a good idea to keep in mind is because our reach is WIC as well beyond Culver City will have hopefully lost you not in Culver City coming to the event so whenever sustainability in New York so he can keep that in mind also like if we have Carson has different starting the recycling rules in La then maybe we need to have information for both available that type of thing that we cover all of our bases I think I think in general we want it on a broader message Reduce Reuse and recycle focusing on the reducing and the reusing and just kind of getting that brought her message out there how how we can lessen our carbon footprint in general okay I mean it's different distance Palestine on City and then Los Angeles so those are different different to representatives from those departments so if you could ask for an l.a. one is well I guess at the Hispanic Tatian Department if you wanted something brought her yesterday we had a presentation at a Rotary meeting from I forgot his name from the city's waste management recycling program want to see James by Michael James and he was saying that your services are actually contracted through l.a. I think ultimately it seems like it's the same system so maybe it's not as complex yeah I'm go ahead Tristan everyone at start a question for DNA I don't know if this was already talked about but I know at the opening of the mukura city Culver City bus to have like the cutest and and it had like these like squishy like green electric or city buses I but I just was wondering if that could make an appearance at the well controller saying I just thought it was the cutest thing in it promoted like Alexa buses miss all this fun stuff Jim and I are in conversation about how we're going to participate so I will know that squish requested squishy boxes made out of Ono plastic to make sure we're not have that kind of the shape of a bus there at their stress balls yeah that that might be useful for the students with this year the way the year is going I'm Susannah go ahead if I don't drain I want a relationship with the community garden in Culver City perhaps they could be there and help us we do you know sustainable growing and gardening or how to how to plan for a new season they could be the ones to help us with composting as well do you have a relationship then we could perhaps have utilized I bet the vending Museum there it's their neighbors so they probably have a contact there I would suggest that unless someone else here has the contact now Santa Monica but I think it would be more meaningful if it's local if it's if it's Culver City she wrote back about BC are attending yes and so there's the beef High School Club is well we could enlist them for volunteering may be finished with you unless someone has a burning question and move along in our meeting thank you guys so much for the time in the end of the jester this has been perfect and wonderful so thank you and I'm going to stick around for a while and also because somebody recently in the the district mentioned it is about Distributing reusable water bottles I know that bikers something that carry one or so in a way it might be related to your event I don't know if we can find a sponsor or someone to be there to distribute musical water bottles because I would use it in the schools with the water sometimes they're so just an idea problem because they work so well but they are plastic so if we hand out water bottles a day they will be stainless steel we won't be buying any plastic bottles but they serve the same purpose so hopefully that helped spread the message of living is all kinds of Reason tracklist don't want no one. but up your installation is one thing and then the wait is another and there's all kinds of stuff and then the cost but it's proper versus if we do water bottles they will definitely not be plastic okay great anyone else have any, Last Comic for Jim Jim maybe you put your email in the chat box and I just reach out to Jim directly and me thank you so much for filling in for our crops slept but I guess that didn't make it today so I think this was actually very opportune and it was a good time to talk about all this so thank you for joining us. school you're from LOL also parent volunteer at El Marina thank you I'm Genesis hello of my high school and I'm community outreach for us which is the varmints Club thank you for joining us in Ava you'll be speaking better butt hello I'm Ava I'm a junior at cchs and I'm working with Saint Jean and Caroline on a compost project thank you David did you say hello already yes I did I'm with Carver City Middle School when I get system Christmas moving along let me share my screen where did my here it goes sorry all right so just a quick update on what we've been doing in the last few weeks our last meeting I presented to the Kroger City Education Foundation board and we had written a Grant's partnered with them to write a grant for the sea how climate Champions Grand and unfortunately we did not get it but I did meet the president of West LA College and we are hoping to connect with them they have a a tree planting event in all these other sustainable and their sustainability initiatives that they are interested in partnering with us so I will follow up with them in and hopefully have something to update with you next time I don't know if some of you may remember we we focus on different areas of focus each year and so we did waste and water in the last two years this year we're looking at energy and we have approval to get back we had a three schools that were off of the clean power lines so they are officially back on after some turmoil but we're working on looking at all of our SV bills in fact we're trying to get all of our utility bills online which allows us to take a look at what was happening and then we realized by doing this that in the last here is we've been paying for a tax called the utility users text and our schools are exempt from paying them and he's been paying them for years not all the time but on many of our bills for most schools and not only I see but also with the clean power Alliance so this is the funding that we will be asking for to be refunded and so this is a city tax and so it would have be partly reimbursed by the city and by Edison so it could represent enough money to pay for the sustainability position that we've all been hoping the school you know adopt is coming here so we'll keep you posted on this but this was that great great findings on our end so El Rincon Veronica and her husband they created this video in fact we are going to watch it because well they had adopted it to their school it's now they made it so that all the schools could use it and then I'm going to show you right now isn't that amazing I just want to take a second does anyone want to chat coming down this so cute adorable how efficient is that video really media and for our digital weekly Roar I mean they had to created it for El Rincon and then after talking to them they just made a general one so it could be used in all the schools and I just I think they they they hit it just right and to give a really I had an idea of the loop that it creates is really beautiful so yes please use it in in all of your insects if you have recommended Nations on how we get this circulated even you know we can send it to all the aliens on Street school so they can post it but do you think this would work for the middle school high schoolers or would they laugh at this high schoolers but we can't Academy you know definitely connect with them 7th graders are they still are attracted to that type of pictures of metria was showing their video possibility or like in the high school they are able to share footage and yes what the middle school we can do it on Monday we have our pots and so we have that time reserves where it's kind of like the homeroom time on our ice cream anyone else have any comments or suggestions may be posted on our Facebook page has the middle school that we do have to request access to the video I just clicked on it and it says I can't see it so I just want to know if you get whoever posted it is that Caroline I just sent you a request if I could see it oh I guess there's settings to it that we can't see it so can you be here I'll try to send you this one I might be the same one but it could be that Veronica and Ben only allowed us access yeah I'm not sure how to maybe they'll get the request then it's the same thing as the other one but it's okay just keep me posted can opening up to all who have the link or email them thank you alright let's get back to our presentation so that was exciting as you know we have implemented the three policies the waist with the three liners so it's it's taking a minute because we are so all of the girls generally Supply the janitors with the liners and now this is a district program and the district will be buying all the liners for all the schools and so it's taking a lot longer to set that up but facilities has he has approval from business Affairs and and so they're they're looking at buying it these days there is a supply issue and so I and I don't know the details of that but it's coming and it will help us with any of the idea that there should be three colored liners and that'll be good for the students but also for the custodians and where to put them in in the dumpsters switch also been part of the problem with the Stream So I know that elementary schools are doing a great job with sorting with the green ambassadors and all that we'll talk about what you're doing in just a moment are the green cleaning products unfortunately I didn't I don't have an update for today Mike Corrigan is in charge he hired someone new who will be in charge of all this again this is a district-wide and so they will be setting it up for all the schools I think the schools will still order directly with our supplier Hilliard but they will only be able to buy green certified cleaning products and this is a big deal you know they've been using a lot of chemicals and stuff so this is going to benefit everyone that works in all the stakeholders in the school districts in this exciting today with Julie Garcia about plastic reduction unfortunately right now there's a supply issue and there if they're they've had to buy some polystyrene trays and so you know we know we all know that's a red and they you know we're going to try to help them search for an an alternative in it with a different with different suppliers other than that you know really switching from plastic bags to paper bag recycled content and then we're going to take a look at what else we can tackle as the year continues also we sent all of us the Liaisons and those that are here a fun to fill out I knew bin so recycling composting Lids anything you need right now to support your your campaigns and your programs in terms of setup and you know accessing small in a 3-gallon recycling or slim jim slim jim composting bins feel free to add as many we have approval to buy what we need so go ahead and get that but I'd rather we get this done at this time with this order for the rest of the year so we don't have to bug at the district again so anyone have any comments or questions about anything on this I just put it in the chats and green and cloudy and I are going to talk about it do identify you know additional locations as part of what we're connecting at you with being able to do the compost and proper in a sorting recycling when the kids are at their classrooms doing snacks which is not you know it's something that's right now at all just end up in the trash try to work on at our school but I don't think we'll know by Friday I think I'm just kind of saying you're weird kind of working toward it remind you live yeah that sounds good I mean what we did with Caroline we went to the high school and we had our Liaisons do it another schools but in the classrooms have the trash the real key is to have the bins together have lesbians have been in a recycling and trash bin together and then if you have if you're adding composting in the cafeteria or food areas then have that third been there that's free is anyone using the the the truth the cans in the classrooms or small that I can waste paper size is anybody using green organic at that size time we seem to be great you know that more traditional Kendall Fuller I think we made a decision not to have come posting in the in the classrooms and just have trash and recycling or else it would have been a huge never and you know they're not supposed to eat that much food in that area so we're just focusing on the green bin and in the food areas to answer your question if it's like if you know that you're not going to have the Council on the bins in the committee that say 2 to 3 weeks then like let me know just where you're at and we'll decide if we wait for you or if we'll do another order but we don't want to do tons of order because it's but I thought we had until Thursday I think I design an email so yeah and if you need a few more days to let us know. But I was just curious if anybody was doing if anyone can answer that but I I don't think we have a a teacher and the students I don't think you have the green bin right G my my I guess was not related to this topic so I can wait way in I know we don't have compost in the the classroom I think it's a critter issue too and maybe the best idea is to just have them pack their snack back home with them because it's not they're not giving it from the school so if they have leftovers night and just put it back in back in and take it home I also Sandra North Carolina I'm not sure what your schedule is but as far as ordering bins I think we would really benefit from a walkthrough with one of you there to look at what we have so I'm not sure if your availability shirt before we order at Farragut just a complete School walkthrough with the custodial staff to get us an order would be super helpful so far someone from Farragut told me that they would need 10 additional bins for the classrooms like the blue recycling that's what I I have noted but maybe there's on the classrooms it's just the the cafeteria and then the playground areas so that our classrooms are all set but the bigger vents in the cafeteria and the playground areas okay alright we'll talk offline on Genesis. none of the classrooms have green beans and that some classrooms have don't even have recycling bins I think what's happening is that what my understanding is that there's not much room for two bins near the teacher's desk and saw often there's just one black one and so you know ideally we would have a station and the teacher would have to walk over to the place where there's the trash and the recycling in that that would be the most efficient or I have both of them there so I don't know if Genesis maybe your Sunrise group could walk around with this be something a project that you could do maybe with asbest in and work with them to walk around the strings and you know decide where you need more bins and then let us know anything like that like every classroom should have like a recycling bin so yeah I think I'll be like a great project and then the other thing when they come through the classrooms they're going through the hallways and so to have those to the stations near the hallway exit of the of the classroom is really where it should be rather than on the other side of the classroom you know in a corner where there's only one bin and it makes them go through the classroom I know we had talked with Hilliard which is our supplier and that that there would be even larger bins but two of them near the hallway that that exit and no other trash bin in a classroom but if we could manage to even get those smaller ones together and then near the hallway that would be ideal and I mean G would you think if we tried to convince the teachers to walk to the station would that if we explain if we have one sheet just free for teachers explaining what we're trying to do. Is that do you think that's feasible or there is no harm in trying we I think in general but the culture at least at the high school is like we already feel like we're getting hot like a lot of other things call Don and not wanting to do anything outside of like what we are contractually obligated to do which I know it's a very pessimistic Outlook but it is kind of realistic I mean I think I did what you and Genesis for talking about in terms of like getting even those small recycling bins available to each classroom I think is a great step in the right direction because at least there they are something else I wanted to bring up to was in watching the video room bring the three different bands and having like the elementary school you have to feel like the kids that are actually there by the bins making sure that everything's sorted correctly as silly as that is that is something that the high school in my opinion desperately needs we don't like at least like even during lunch the one thing I noticed when walking back to the new science building is that there's waste everywhere in the stairwells on my way back to the building its all over the place the kids are missing I don't even care if there's a trash can nearby they don't even bother to walk over the custodians have an issue with that and I don't know how to I mean ESPN has done a video that's pretty fun night we showed it in at previous meetings but then it's true students high school students had a short but we were saying we need we need the teams at the station that gives every single lunch and I can't see me since the height of the seniors go out for lunch they don't want to stick around anymore what covid Idol I don't know if seniors are allowed to leave campus so that made like that may shift things but I do think that at least specially since we're going back we're going back to school you're having a week off I think like in terms of changing the culture at least at the high school it is having like various like environmental clubs like in the various Representatives like being by these like areas where students congregate and just being like make sure that you're starting your trash this is what go see her this is what was here but she's very micromanage me but like it doesn't need to be done being tiresome Esther it's just kind of like during America recycles week I literally walked up to the students at the tables and they were looking at me as if I was a half alien half smiling almost you know who is the little challenging but would really make a difference I stayed like by a station for a while and I I would see the student coming in and I was trying to tell them to you know how to sort your ways and some of them were looking at me weird they did it so I think if we do that for maybe we need to do that for like that whole week in November and then same thing for Earth day and been really have one person on each station I would have hoped that some of the students from the environmental groups would have helped spread against the they were busy there at that time so I don't know I didn't find Peter and list them yeah because that would look good for their College apps to be honest like that Community hours definitely from the VCR club or we can figure that out I think that what might be a way to lure them with the community hours let's talk some more offline so we can keep going as summer I hope you didn't have a something links or put it in the chat let's see so we talked about the green policies we are organizing earthfest week like we did the last two years which was very successful where we come up with a schedule for each day with music videos and events and things and and then each school has done kind of what they would like I'd like to create a subcommittee starting in like a week or two and I hope that we can it may go well with green ambassador then the gardening club I don't know but I wanted to hear back from you if you want to enlist the other you know if you want separate subcommittee meetings or if you need any you know green and back specific subcommittee meeting if we could take a second just too for those that are involved in this I would love to support on the green and bass fishing a Cloudy and I are trying to kind of kick it off or actually meeting with our principal to talk about it on Wednesday I've been up you know through this committee working in connected to El Rincon in a piranha and Bronwyn at that live in houses trike building at connections here I've been emailing them and it's actually been really good in Avery mailing that I compost thing you know it's been a little more than a little bit of time so I partnership committee okay how about we do a just catch up for all these three subcommittees maybe in like an hour and a half or or two hours I don't know what to do if we put a how to get like one after the other or or maybe 45 minutes I don't know that worst is the same people with several environmental groups unless someone can speak to this a little bit but maybe we'll wait till they're ready to there they've been working with us and then they went to meet the superintendent they've met and Kelly can't and their plan is to go to the board for adoption and it's really solid green new deal it's very impressive and they share how they think about all of this and climate change in their there they're a climate weary and they want solution is anyone our school district to be part of it though I'm very proud of them and and so we will share with you next time very pleased to have Ava friends who is a junior at the high school she's also a Girl Scout with a project and she came to us asking if she could help us with a project that is specific to compost and with the city and I see Kathy is here maybe Kathy when I say hi for a second introduce yourself hello I apologize for jumping on so late I was sidetracked with another project but it's good to see that you guys are all here and everything is going forward thank you Kathy so Ava I will pass it on to you to share the details of the projects you want me to keep my screen up or you have your own do you mind keeping your screen up there we go thanks again so I'm currently planning like a city compost take back project so you need to stir beating industrial compost from the city that is really high quality to the seven schools and within the district and it would be accessible to the schools for use and hopefully to the city residents as well to be able to go on campus and collect it and I'm planning on building a wooden bins to hold the compost and maybe made used wooden pallets to keep it more sustainable and each one would hold about one and a half cubic yards of compost and the city would hopefully deliver it to each of the sites by yearly I also plan on adding like an occasionally component to it where I would teach people how to properly use the compost in their home gardens and hopefully encourage them to start growing food at home and do ye songs I'd like to ask if you happen to know any locations at the schools that we could put the bins in that be greatly appreciated and we hopefully can get the started in the next month or two this is amazing Ava and Kathy you've never heard this part of the presentation do you have any comments or so far it's great and I support it I guess my questions would be what are the quantities because currently we are getting the material from the vendor and the vendor has been very gracious to make the deliveries which of course cost find money do we want to make sure that the quantities are in line with you know a successful operation so if it's only like two cubic yards by yearly at each site set the time and energy might be difficult but if the quantities are larger which I'm not sure what the quantities are looking like for each site so we can talk more about that I'd like to maybe we can talk next week I said kind of streamline the details of locations quantities it sounds good it sounds great it's just that I have a feeling that the vendor as we progress through this program he might say oh you know what I can't possibly deliver to all of those sites I don't know but I just wanted to keep in mind what he met how he may react now they may react the vendor would be the one doing the delivery directly not the city bright all the city is doing is coordinating to have the vendor deliver the material directly and it is it's good that way because we have some ideas within the city that were working on where we would have the material may be a super large quantity delivered somewhere at a city facility and then we could you know parcel of that out but that hasn't come to fruition because we just don't have the space so the vendor has agreed at this point to directly all the material which they're hauling from a pretty for place so you know what's up it's important to keep that in mind that if they're only going to be hauling two cubic yards if not going to be stressful for them so they are looking at large quantities now at the 7 School sites you know I think we just have to have a conversation just to get more details on one of these and location I mean Joanna your Gardener Master Gardener at Lynn how to if there's two cubic yards at Lynn how how how quickly could you run through it and you know how often would we need to refill replenish that been I mean the the one that I was using I called a compass is that you know it's very strong so I can of used like a Hannah B I have only six beds so in reality I get maybe two bags so that's four cubic feet to fill in the space because otherwise I will burn everything is 8 okay we have we have considerations with Mike lights for the amount that they need we can explore still how to do this in one location I thought that the intention was to get it on location for all the school so I thought that's what you were encouraging us to do but we can still look at having it in one place and when we have the lowboy I think you know Joanna and others went to get their compost so let's let's talk about this. next week meeting a pleasure to meet you wanted a project that I would like to pursue and it is part of the the green New Deal that the students are proposing in the transportation category which is to ensure smart electric vehicle charging stations were possible so as I've not done a proposal at meetings like this before I was curious what you would need for me in order to like I guess like take this honor to consider taking it on or like anything like that just so that I know what to do to prepare with a c and Robert Quinn about the charge Ready TV program and while their flyer said hundred percent of the construction is covered by the rebate it turns out that that's for Title 1 schools and we are not I think we may have one but other than that all of our other schools are not don't qualify and therefore the rebate the program would cover 25% of the the cost of construction and at this time either I did not a priority for the district so I was told so we met with them we know about their Edison program it's something that we want to look into what we did we met with the district has a contractor for the Net Zero what is it called again Carolina NetZero plan for the school energy plan and under that plan there was a solar some solar is stablished in that near Farragut and apparently there's one other location that we're still there could be put is on the district warehouse roof and so the thing is Caroline and I are on a quarter time so these are large-scale projects so I don't know if that could be something to replace the EV unless you're trying to do EV life from the meeting with Robert is that they were not ready or ready to do the charging station yet quite yet I think are not ready to invest I don't think that they're ready like this year all ready to start working on that and he said he hasn't received many requests either it has to do with dementia and he didn't get much of the meds for that type of system so I'm not opposed to moving forward on that I'd I just don't know I mean I would want to that has a TV and we want to charge you that did you see Jim's recommendation is instead of developing the TV program is to focus on driving lesson and using alternative I think we could do it as a general district-wide campaign we've done some of those icon green printing recommendations and we could also focus on I mean the green tip this week you'll see in all of the newsletters the cover pride and all the school newsletters is all is on the Free Fair program again and so but we could also have a campaign that goes to all the teachers and I'm not sure what is the best way to communicate teachers grandma and I think we have we've kind of missed on that part of the stakeholders in the district well Sandrine I am a charismatic well-known figurehead in my school so if you needed a few need a liaison to communicate with the other teachers I got you I can do that there we go caroling we have a new campaign that were that Jim is recommending and I think that should be one that we go district-wide with anything else anyone want to share just go ahead and unmute yourself and just quickly share one and then I have to go I'm going to go to that meeting that Michelle went through this A B C D bicycle production meeting the local the shop working on it's coming up there that we are really excited to see the PTA a teacher at our school joined our committee and it's just so great to have is G going to be just you know putting yourself out there too great to have that kind of combination of your parents and teachers and you're thinking about these issues aren't working together he's offered to be the liaison to the faculty about the snack time and how to do better in a composting and recycling they are and how to help teachers understand that the program that were talking about so it's super exciting and you know find it to be a great teacher Claudia has them now for her first grader I had in a couple years ago you super well respected in the school so that we couldn't imagine a better person to be working with us I know I this committee is in Ridge to us when we the students come it's like it makes a difference to US state and they reveal things that we just couldn't know you know like broken they came to us with broken toilets and faucets and and we got them fixed cuz we we have that connection authorities and stuff so I really like that we have this platform to discuss all of this with go ahead and just grab them if you want to share sorry I'm like hogging Mike is very fit to my personality but I wanted to also bring up because a lot of the topics that we've been discussing today have been revolving around waist the various like you know the three bins that we have campuses and I can stay at our high school I mean like we have a lot of those bins available around campus which is fabulous something that I've been wondering about for years that I wanted to bring up these meetings is e-waste and I talked about E-Waste in my class and I think like one of the things I wanted to bring up with how to open the district was to having at least one site be serviced in any way station cuz there are really that many within the Culver City city jurisdiction like I have been able to find so having Colder's like one of the schools by serving as a place to drop off E-Waste we do we have been promoting this you know they're safe centers in LA county that have permanent locations but Culver City has two events a year and Cassie generally sends us it's too which is it to be toxic to trash so we actually I'll have six events o homeboy we just signed a contract with them and they're going to be doing are you waste collection and it's every quarter but then the two talks if we had a little bit of a hiccup with that because we can't secure location but if the schools are open to having a to toxic trash event at the school that could solve that problem but we have to talk offline about in a location and I have to get the county and vote Ashley fund it but the schools might be a nice alternative look at these Lee do it in front of the vendee museum in that parking lot but there's been some just this past year there's just been some scheduling hiccup so we have been able to schedule it again I'd love to do that in we could do it in the Middle School Fair get parking lot they're probably so a couple things about how you know we haven't tackled hazardous waste ourselves we just found out that there is a system in place and I'm not sure where I thought that maybe the stakeholders knew where to do this but it maybe this is a I want to focus on where we would have maybe where the supplies are in each school like have a used battery box and then I would like for best week to do in events like he weighs in fact I remember one realtor last year contacted us and said can we can refund or help you organize an E-Waste event and never happen cuz of covid by I think that's something we could discuss organizing Cassie in are that week I think it gives us enough time if possible if we can choose the date to do it the week or next week or something I think that homeboy definitely would have to be involved and then if there's a funding source available yeah that that always helps because there are already committed to our quarterly of them and we have budgeted money contract it out or them for that but if you guys have a separate event I can certainly connect you with our homeboy contact they're a great group and you know they're very there on it I mean they will set it up they'll manage traffic that you are so I can send you her contact and then if you're that person that said that she'd be interested in I think I contacted her again and then I never heard text so I made it may be premature to say that they would want to do it but I think it would be good to have a new waste event for all of our families even if we combine it do you have the always at the same time and we do a paper shredding at the same time so people can bring any you know important papers that they want to have shredded his people think that shredded paper should go in the recycling bin but it's actually it doesn't unfortunately it could it can go in the composting bin right Kathy yeah so that's often times people don't know that that's why that shredding event is good yeah well that's that we can communicate on this time Caroline as you said I think that you said that he has a system in place for example for electronics for computers I think that we have asked the IT department what they do with their old computers and they do they have a system and they send it back on the recycle it I'm not sure how and if they start somewhere but normally there's something in place how about we I think this is a good occasion to review the protocols in every school for E-Waste including batteries bulbs paint computers and make sure the right people have access to this information and especially for even for custodians and you know I'm sure teachers of batteries are throwing out in the trash can so is it good that's a good one gram cuz we've done we've sent out information but I think it's time to narrow in on the actual setup up for this at least told the assistant principal in charge of that is relatively new Oscar Rodriguez so I've been working with him because another teacher and I are trying to start a. Project where we're trying to have menstrual products available in every classroom and bathroom excetera so I'm like I've already had meetings with him and I built a rapport with him so that's something that I can follow up about cuz like he'll probably know or at least put me in touch with somebody that does he's been to every one of our meetings I think this is attended so he's been very supportive of our committee so that's that be great though if you could fill him in on this I'm a crayon collection as part of America makes me think about us being able to say to parents bring yourself to El Marino on February 3rd or I got to look at the calendar you know because obviously we can't take huge amounts of things but if we chat bring your batteries for example we could I like the batteries are and then bring them one of us could bring them you know to the you know on Saturday I've been to that you know the vendee of that you myself straight so we wouldn't make it over on Saturday cuz you going to school tomorrow right to drop pick up the kids I like that stuff they are so they erased event that homeboy is doing for us every quarter is wait for me waste there won't be any collection of any additional household hazardous waste which the battery falls under it's a different process and different types of think they just won't be able to take that does only E-Waste don't know in the classrooms or maybe there could be a little competition for the students to help gather I mean where where do where do is batteries in a school like during your school day is it with the remote control or I won't have to have it in the office and at the library they have like a little told container where you put it so I actually contacted the company but they said that they cannot bring into elementary schools or whatever reason I should picking it up but I feel like with battery toxic it has to be that a container you know the kids going to just grab whatever is inside guy has to be in an office I think near the supply area that's where the logical place that's where you would go pick up new batteries I mean G do I get some you have batteries with remote controls and then maybe calculators and things do teachers have to pay for batteries or do you get them from the district they can be part of your supply order every year so Don Tucker like if you put it in order form like the district will it'll come out of our department budgets but yeah that's it's all paid for yes so it would make sense that you could you would I'll pick them up and maybe drop them off in one place okay great great idea anything else you guys want to talk about it or I posted this before but books weren't being tossed into Linfield and so I first I was grabbing them and just like giving two people and then I have a little library in front of school and that's where the teachers know nowhere to put that books and it seems to work better oh that's great schools have that too yeah I've seen them on another note like the I think it's American Red Cross they have a a dumpster now in front of the high school where you can donate your clothes and stuff and I was thinking I'd be awesome in all of the schools closed at the welrod lost and found seems to work because I barely ever get anything that people don't grab it so if it's well organized way to organize a lost and found and then we give away whatever people don't pick up within a month donated back to limit how people can show up with it and I usually have does a bag left over after that and I just wash it and give it on by nothing oh you can okay all right but you you can pick it up but they've got their mom didn't pick it up it basically it's free to Lynnwood how I'm working with Jag gym for my other jobs they're in our the Culver City single business suits the program and they get so much leftover in one simple simple thing that we are going to recommend to the parents is that they label they label their clothing and a label there reusable bottles and then you know exactly who is for that'll save because they end up donating so much quality stuff and it's a shame that's wasteful and then so it'll save money and you know reduce how much way so maybe those would be things to recommend to the parents at 2 label stuff better animals Browns record noises do it weight when I started this visit you have to have a hanger you have to have I mean rock you have to have a hangers some kind of bins and if it's in one spot so ours is by the office right now and works out well because even doing weekend you can just grab through the gate and you know but it takes that that parent at all to walk through the campus and pick up those jacket because Wednesday on the ground they basically lose their color because of the Sun and when I started this guy it was a pile like a pile high of jackasses we're going to Linfield like it was shocking save his leg in the Sun is going to get destroyed you have to have it covered I want to go pick it up we have a bucket with the clothes and we have a bucket with hangers and the other day I brought a bunch of jackets and parents do it and you know how he stole some hangers and without me even saying anything they're hanging the jackets on the rock what's a nicely organized that's when people pick it up and then I start asking people you know what is free people haven't picked up it's all yours and people grab it first they were in there was shy and kind of awkward because we've but then they realized students free stuff what a big deal I'm going to go get in touch so you can donate it I'm like yeah but that's mean that I have to power wash this all day and then I have to deny that and I said Mike is almost so I don't think like you know that's so it goes back to the community no I did I love that idea of strickling it back to people I I know that I'd personally I have a senior now but for so many years they change size is all the time and I would go to the lost and found itself at the end of the year they say if you don't come get it we will donate it and so I would pick up different items and there's no shame I think that's really what we should be doing anyway tell the kids to walk out as just happens to be right out door and say hey go check it out lost and found so that really helped as well but it seems like it's a shame to pick up items anymore and so ashamed to get things when they go on sale good that's that's a good idea if we actually had a meeting with Julie Garcia today and cuz I saw that City of La they have it they had a program around the holidays where people donated their plastic utensils or shelters and stuff and I thought maybe during earthfest week we could we all have a drawer of utensils from the takeout orders that we just we don't want to throw out but we don't want to use them in and if we could save the school some money by donating what we all imagined 7,000 students we have to find me information from LA but that's one thing we wanted to do so if you know what's best week as subcommittee meeting will more information to share but anyway this is great thank you for
