Congratulations Michaela our next recipient from El Marino Language School and as engaging all activities in school she is responsible for her work and learning she is a green and black she appreciates all of the characteristic traits that we have been learning in the classroom and is able to explain the value of each with good examples and her experiences and she would stand up for others congratulations Kayla ring-necked recipient is from El Rincon Elementary School with Dean if nacio's in the audience can you come up being if you're call Sandy Union is a fifth-grade scholar who continues to emulate that citizenship and Leadership across the campus Dean is an amazing citizen he treats everyone with respect and goes out of his way to help fellow students Dean is a self-starter and looks for ways to go above and beyond and everything he died while working in a group teen shows leadership skills by organizing the group and making sure everyone is involved in the decision-making as a green Ambassador he takes his role very seriously and would help other students have about starting trash in the area in addition Dinah's participating in the program serving as a buddy and role model for students with disabilities is empathy and patience is evident and how he treats his ears and you. on-campus Dean is truly a good citizen and we look forward to seeing the great things he will accomplish in his future congratulations Dean next we like to recognize El Rincon rocket Jason Yang Jason are you in the audience call Jason Yang exemplifies citizenship inside and outside of the classroom she is a respectful detail-oriented helpful Problem Solver and a natural leader he is not only an amazing all-around student she is empathetic and and helpful to his peers when one of his classmates had to hurt I only got a cold contrast and shadowed them I showed them rather how to apply it to their eyes additionally when we got a new stove I said he welcomed her as and hasn't stepped up to help her use technology to translate and practice English over the years at El Rincon he continues to stand out as an all-around good listen who strives to do his best each and every day congratulations Jason our next meal will be Farragut Elementary call Burgin Elementary School I would like to recognize and asked to come forward Ria tacora let's give her a big round of applause Leah is a very special child she is can do take charge leader real was chosen by her classmates to represent them on the student council she is a type of student will take it on herself to Mentor a student that needs help during math CGI problem solving she leaves the class line to and from the yard after PE and lunch it is special to watch her classmates listen to her and trust her they appreciate her leadership skills Rhea understands the responsibility and take so long with joy she leads by example evidence when others are imitate her Ria promote great Farragut Fox citizenship congratulations Rhea also from Farragut Elementary School when we welcome the side Shelly Desai are you in the room sign is in the sky is a wonderful member of our class he is kind and a fair friend to all cuz I is very accepting out of all of his classmates and they know they can trust him if I love to take care of the caterpillars and butterflies in our class they let you know they can trust audience a rally is an amazing and responsible student in and outside of a glass strives to build positive relationships for her up and between friends he is respectful and consistently makes good and appropriate choices continuously shows and fousey has them and works to the fullest he sells the best you can be at all times way to go out at Lincoln graduation our next recipient from lung bayona is Isabel Hernandez Elsa Bella please come forward Isabella is a student who is incredibly thoughtful and intentional with her words and her time she participates in the peacemakers club at Lafayette and implements what she learns from counselor Serrano to her class outside of school Isabella participates in soccer and spend time with her family and her new puppy Isabella is responsible respect curious and has an intrinsic desire to learn and help others congratulations Izabella Wentz our next recipient is from Lynnwood call Elementary School Kiona belchior awesome tiona cares deeply about Lynn how and her community active discipline in all areas of the school with trimester she ran for green Ambassador and for student council he is a leader and a team player she often takes the initiative to lead a project or help a classmate out a responsible student Citizen and friend to all congratulations Kiana next from Linwood how I have the pleasure of recognizing Evelyn e v y it is an enthusiastic respectful and responsible student and citizen she always displays can be positive and friendly attitude courtiers and adults are strongly about cleanliness organization and safety of her school Community she currently at just wanted grade recess coordinators and has applied to represent her class as a green and bassador congratulations Evie you deserve this honor next we moved to the Culver City Middle School go Panthers we like to recognize Diane Jones if you're here please come forward Zion this year ccmsi added a new electric called exploration and social justice where students have the opportunity to explore real world and school-based issues Zion demonstrate leadership and took initiative by presenting solutions to concerns that needed to be addressed by a meeting with the school administrator on her own time when highlight is that she is currently working on Research student court system as part of a response to Behavior she demonstrates great passion and models integrity and takes pride in ensuring that CCMS is a safe place for all we need value sign here as an asset to the CCMS community relation next from Culver City High School student ours we have Raven Bradley welcome Raven is she in yachty awesome are you done is a senior at Culver City High School and recently served as a moderator for a joint ccusd and city of Culver City equity a human relations advisory committee event which focused on the well-being of students and need of using a trauma-informed model of Education Raven served on the cchs diversity equity and inclusion student group was offered a valuable perspective and an effort to improve educational access for all students at cchs in class conversations to ensure a curriculum centered on equity and social justice written plans on studying political science and becoming a lawyer Raven is an exemplary member of our sent our student body need congratulations Raven so if the incoming board members would like to assist in congratulating the students and be part of the photo I'd suggest that's a good idea you could thank you Doctor 11 I have one final cchs students to recognize Trinity Johnson could you please count Trinity Johnson is a senior at Culver City High School teachers described her as a joy to have in classroom the Trinity is smart participatory and is always willing to help her peers what is best about her is just the warm and Schumer's she brings to the classroom she brightens the everyday Trinity is hardworking and her effort is unmatched she is well liked by peers and teachers and is very dead and is a very dedicated student Trinity is a wonderful Hur Culver City High School community and we are so lucky to have her congratulations Trinity I didn't buy at this time we like to say congratulations to all of our recipients of the December 2022 American citizenship Awards students we would like you to stay here so the families can come forward this is there Paparazzi MoMA and our Angela someone's account forward so that we can recognize our change and present them with certificates we will call their names from the diocese all right thank you everyone wonderful season is girls work very very hard to give and a championship this is probably one of the best teams that I've seen go through the middle school in about 14 years the high school has a lot to be looking forward to and he just amazing girls and really proud of them so I want to call East name personal we have Amelia bikini next we Hab brace send piranha fish Anaya Thornton Ruby Escobar Moya Craig Callahan Naomi ostrich race willens Amir Mahmood Miley Maga Gianna binder and we have it. thank you if you could all stay for a photo opportunity and we can invite your athletic director to join so that way we can take some photos this is your Paparazzi moment but you might need to scoot in just a congratulations to all of you very exciting the incoming board members in the photo please join us thank you no no no congratulations thank you so much for joining us graduation students and that takes its now to item 7 public Wrecking beginning with members of the audience so now is the time if you have comments on items that are not on the agenda to raise your hand on Zoom or bring up a card to the front to let us know you wish speak the doctor can I assume you'll keep track of the people as usual Inus or credit cards because we should do two minutes each and I remind you people these are front and it's his four items not on the agenda and I will be using a timer. what was going off earlier my apologies about not tending to that and I will unfortunately have to do this is my least favorite job but it's just to give you a heads-up that you'll have one minute meaning then that your time is up so I'm going to call three names at a time end Dr 11 I'll be proceeding in person followed by Zoom or inter mixing them or I'm sorry I totally for on Zoom Sharky looking for 2 minutes each and am I doing and followed by them or do you want me to resume as we usually do and we will get off at 4 on zoom and foreign person yes so will be calling Marcy Vaughn by Latoya Baldwin Clark followed by Megan Dodson good one followed by faith Rodriguez in person and I'll restate those names again and you may come up so Marcy Bond Thanksgiving hello my name is marzipan I'm here to talk about the safety on the campus as well as the cleanliness of the campus not just the high school campus but other campuses about a week before the election actually few days before the election I spoke to the some parents and a child who goes to Marino El Marino and it had been two months I'm hoping I know you're not going to be able to answer this but maybe Tran can answer those Cirque when you can answer this for me is that it El Marino they had a janitorial strike there was only one janitor and four first few months some of those classrooms had not been claimed there were some of the some of them hadn't had their trash cans empty for two months and I know it's been the most globally that's changed but I don't know if that and that is a concern because that is cleanliness and the house of our students the second thing I would like to know is that I know that there was an assault I'm not going to say what kind because of the children in the audience I know that there was an alleged assault on campus and considering the number of the high school campus the number of security cameras that are on that campus you would think that that would have been stopped immediately I also you know that there are a number of fight still going on at the high school campus and the security is not really stop being and it's being done by the teachers and the maintenance and if we're wondering why we're having a hard time keeping our teachers are remaining if our security is not doing their job this is why it's happening we also just lost our principal at the high school and I'm concerned about how long it's going to take for us to replace that principle when it took us almost 7 months to get a principal for middle school so I'd really like to know how you guys are going to address all of these issues thank you dr. Baldwin Clark followed by Megan and faith I'd actually wanted to say this when are new school board members happened born in but I'll stay anyway because it's the crime of children here in ccusd I have two children in the high school and I did have a child that was at pulling out numerous reasons I'm also a Community member who cares deeply about issues of equity and issues of Justice thank you for everything that you've done thank you Lord the dedication that you shown to feed the USD to the schools that you're up and also to our community and general and I know that I'm excited about. Barbie Bratz to the other coming on and welcome the reason I wanted to do this when you were up here because I wanted to look everybody in the I am and what I'm going to say about that you're trying to remember why you were it's a remember what you ran on and then remember why people voted for you government functions and while the board structure makes it difficult sometimes for you to do the hard work that you need to do you do need to remember that you're the only people that we can activate a less 11 at the last meeting talked about how the school I have a limited role which is to supervise the superintendent but it also has a very expansive role and regulations and there's also an Express their role and they clearly and unambiguously dating with the ethos of District should be all set everyone once you get up on that diet to do things like being willing to disagree with one another and strongly if need be do so without hedging without will you sing me without beating around the bush I'm tired of hearing about Equity being our moral responsibility if Equity is not the Practical thing that we do everyday thank you I hope you'll forgive me by Walmart good evening numbers of the board of a mother-of-two at Lebanon Elementary involve number in the PTA in the description by three committee for special education this evening I want to speak to board member McBride I want to we're serving on this board for being an advocate for students and families into the community and your service to the PTA and for being a game-changer the changemaker and an inspiration women and mothers been so honored to know you and so looking forward to seeing how you will transform whatever space you're in next to be better than it was before you entered it just as you have done here at ccusd thank you so much for everything you hello I would like to ask you what action you take is on the board need to remind you what the definition of action is according to Ward nick.com it is something that is done or you're trying to talk with your campaign and your words nothing without the action to back them we the people could shoot position in the in your position and we gave you your job and we the people can just as easily take it away it's not acceptable at the bathrooms are flooding at school yeah it's nice that you guys renovated them you can't maintain them and bathrooms and no soap I thought we were in the midst of a pandemic we don't want your talk we want and need your action at school good evening good evening congratulations to the new board members and members thank you for your service my son is not a university but I have begged you for your service anyway I am I have nothing to do with the school board meeting tonight I am part of the equity in human Relations Committee next door and we actually are having an equity in human relations award and application deadlines are what on January 22-23 scared or worried or student any Elementary Middle School High School West LA College of Business and I want you to come look at that we're meeting Spy Next Door to you thank you thank you I appreciate that thank you in person it's our council member Julia vice president of Culver City vice mayor of Culver City housing in Monte mcmorran evening School remember the community and asked me and I'm not even more and I guess last night I was yeah I want to hear this all right are you came here for start again I get evening board members fast community members my name is Yasmine and my name is more'n I was recently elected by my peers as vice mayor for pretty  I came in late have to pick my daughter up from soccer practice but I'm really grateful that I had the opportunity to think I'll go and board member summer McBride my sister I'm so deeply proud of you so grateful for your leadership on this body. Levin both is they tend to ask questions and really consider all sides before making decisions and I know it can get heated in here and I know there's been a lot of late nights but I really genuinely appreciate the way they govern bored and I want to take a moment to you know change is inevitable and I want to take a moment to really welcome and show gratitude to our three new incoming board members you have a big job ahead of them and it's one I know they'll all take seriously and do very well so welcome to our new three board members and thank you very much Miss McBride and dr. Levin thank you Melissa thank you to graduations to the newly elected council members I hope there will be positive change to the school board to the outgoing members I wish you the best thank you number for standing up often especially in the last few months to hear sorry the last few months to hear what the students staff and parents were truly saying thank you again to the new please know many of his parents have been here month after month to send stand up against discrimination of our own students while supporting other students and staff as well we come knowing that more often than not we will not be heard and responses will be few if any to our concern we have come time after time to talk about safety of the student safety of the building and safety safety of the staff as well listening to what we say and listening to what the students and staff have to say is critical to deny any of this is happening or to not even respond so it's how little respect or care you actually have for the student body I hope the new board will show better respect for their surrounding a parents and students hear our voices don't make promises that you don't follow through with don't tell us you will respond and then you don't finally have you school board members Robert Quinn or superintendent trance actually been into the high school to see the disrepair reported recently I'm not talking about the inspection I'm asking you AC repair with your own eyes and if so are there still ceiling tiles that are out of place have you checked the bathrooms and how were they today how was the trash today did you see any insects or roaches because if you haven't been there this week then why are you denying students reports of the above repair disrepair and finally it's really nice to see so many people there today please show up every meeting because most medians are completely empty about side voices thank you thank you mister mister Shannon thank you so much, hopefully I can get this all in in just a matter of 2 minutes first of all I want to say thank you for going board members your support for mobility and especially the safe routes to school program has been really fantastic and I appreciate every moment you spend either with me or throwing ideas my way thank you for your your very personal and candid conversations and always filled with enthusiasm and inside especially the first iteration of the program as a teen London City run but the second generation for the last six years I've been a joint effort of both the school board and the city and I appreciate that that is a huge Monumental step that you were on the board to oversee and side with and that decision has still been a very unusual one in the sacred circles and I'm quite proud of that relationship continues in its ongoing now and so thank you again for that and of course for all your planetary 85 it's always been informed interesting into our new board members welcome I look forward to working with each and everyone of you and having honest conversations about how to improve mobility and safety for our children I wish you all the best of luck I hope you remain lyrics Generation Culver City High School student I recently reached out to ABC7 regarding issues occurring at the Culver City High School campus hoping some media coverage to bring awareness and get things done at the schools and absolute mess the District of essentially denied all the issues happen lying to us about the failing infrastructure just like pictures being taken last week on Thursday I will continue to fight for the Safety and Security of our students teachers and parents parents should not be fearful of sending us to the school students should not have to come to school afraid I feel welcome and safe teachers do not feel silence and unappreciated how dare you make students learn and crumbling buildings in the 50s completely falling ceiling tiles grass and roaches how dare you allow your own employees to work in these growth conditions are you silenced our voices for 2019 LS four years ago he finding where the ceiling tiles being in poor condition the description know and I quote blue on tiles have been reportedly falling randomly and put a safety hazard since at least 2019 and you've done nothing the estimated cost is roughly $685,000 and have the money to fix it and absolute corruption and do not say that scenes are the one destroying the camp with me and not for the disrepair the school students are absolutely call the cab with issues finding because there are no repercussions for the action and that is once again the school's fault we have no detention only restorative reflection how is that working out we can see the results right here didn't think if they can get away with anything that they want I haven't seen security guards do anything stop by the people ditching class and they kicked me a seat it was all ages never did to cause any kind of trouble off campus Because I came into the Huron gate a school entrance other things use when referring to the school is packed due to overcrowding we're sick of what you're not doing not fixing their school it's send money where it should be spent the whole city unified school districts are corrupt you said your money their Administration and the systems we use are absolutely failing every one if you want change Haley Carolyn can you hear me we can okay I have two things for tonight what is that I'm hard of hearing and the closed captions are not working even though you're in the council chambers so I hope that as part of equity and inclusion you can work on this in the future because it's very important that you include those of you who are in the disabled Community my second point is that in my opinion the most important function of the board is a fiduciary responsibility and I find that Lackey tonight and the consent item there was almost a million dollars worth of purchase or cell phone Corporation and yet nobody questioned it not a word was said I would have said something but I was up slightly late I didn't have time to raise my head that's not okay your entire budget is 98 million dollars that's 1% of the entire budget and two months ago you all approved $1000000 on $85,000 in iPad 40K who second grade I thought so K maybe that's cool maybe it's not but really what's more important the safety issue of the ceiling tiles falling down which is roughly 600 to $700,000 to fix seems way more important as a priority item in fact a future ready report from 2019 put the ceiling tiles as be single mode most important item in the entire District in terms of repairs so okay so we ignore the ceiling tiles which people keep bringing up and stuff we're going to spend all this money $685,000 roughly 47 iPads and 17 iPad charging cards which I understand have all been delivered and the meantime who cares about the high school students who cares about the teachers and the students with all those falling ceiling Tamia thank you thank you thank you I'm sorry go ahead that's a public comments on Route 10 I mean doctor Levin the public is not on the agenda remember if you want to come in on something that is on the agenda you still have that opportunity when the item and comes up and that takes us to do ccusd play groups I point out that if the superintendent want staph to respond to any of those public comments you can do that when it's during the reporting just a few minutes so I normally situation team play once we start with Ace is Miss hammy you're available or represented I would like to begin by welcoming our new board members you've got big and I'm hoping that you enjoy being on the board as much as you thought you would when you first ran that being said I'd like to first start off thanking dr. Levin thoughtful and measured approach to the work that he did on this board was Fabolous we really appreciated the idea that you reached out to us on several occasions for clarifications with bangs a lot to labor in this I also wanted to say that when we invited you to serve on the partnership all those years ago we made a great choice and it was a pleasure working with you want Partnerships as well last but not least I'd like to address this is McBride mrs. McBride has been an exemplary board member for the six years that she has served on the school board unparalleled commitment to the students staff and parents in this community was appreciated and noticed by all of us she instinctively and courageously knew when it was Morton to make good truck and I admire that in her worth more than I can say and I just want you to know mrs. McBride that he will be dearly missed by myself and all members of The Association of classified employees we have always known how much you care about us and we appreciate it more than we can say thank you thank you Sammy it takes us to CC ft mr. Lon a good evening everyone so I'm I want to start off at thank you I think I gave my tribute to you for thank you again I'm official board meeting with thank you again for all the times and reaching out, things like that on my way this opportunity to thank summer just so much for all you've done you always lead discussions with how does this affect employees and that was noticed and it's not done by many board members say that but it was always done by you how does this affect our employees and other board members and people coming in need to hear that valuable part of that because that was something that meant a lot to us thank you for all you've done for our students as the father of two students during ccusd I know you're commitment to students was excellent this commitment just so many things so I just want to say thank you just I can't express how much we've seen you as an advocate asking the questions that needed to be asked and someone that truly represented the staff the teachers the nurses are program specialist or speech pathologist and all the groups that we represent here in CCISD so from all of us at SilverCity Federation to teach. We really want to express our thanks to you, I'd like to welcome our new board members and opportunities are also thank you for reaching out to us to talk to us to express your issues and for coming to meet with our staff again I just want to say how that is greatly appreciated and very well noted are you guys actually took the time to speak to v c c f p & Ace members just about a week ago so thank you so much for that a few things I want to talk about the coming up later on the agenda I do need to call my daughters having her end-of-the-year soccer party tonight so I can go to rush out after this and try to zoom zoom later first on the agenda is a sustainability coordinator which I will they has not been completed the discussion in Partnership the partnership meeting that happened last week unfortunate mr. Tran had to leave there is not a thorough discussion I was very surprised as was most of the members of the partnership you see that on tonight's agenda and I would say if you go ahead and take it back s*** on that tonight what is that saying about our partnership and that's for our new board members as well to what does that say about our partnership at something is not fully discussed because there's still a lot of questions about what this is with a job description is something that's teaching it's something that's monitoring this is not a finished discussion I want to make that very clear to everyone who might be that this is not a discussion as far as labor is concerned the second thing is also board representation on the partnership is something that's also being discussed at the partnership level and we will resume that discussion we meet again in January to figure out how we're going to do board representation on the partnership moving forward so I'd like to put that out there as well. That's two things that we still have here being discussed in bar labor-management partnership and I would ask people to honor that labor-management Partnership if you really believe in it and want to see it succeed finally just about me to school repairs you have definitely are a lot of issues that are turning on our campuses I know I've spoken about it has spoken about it has spoken about those things are still going on and need to be addressed I'm really thankful that we do have a website and set up but we're probably going to need do more on taking a look at these immediate things especially those ceiling tiles which I know I've been talking about since I've been president of the Union I think Dave mielke was talking about prior to me as well chips so thank you all for your time tonight and summer once again thank you thank you do we have a representative from Max I can see the room with everybody's walking up I know we don't always tell the next person there oh well not in person that I can see but also I didn't see him on them okay then that takes us to superintendents to report and I'll remind you as well as to want to respond to any of the items not on the agenda the porch camera on but staff is allowed to if there's something that you feel you can respond to immediately thank you president love and I wish to share to quick items tonight we or planning to bring the contusion plan to the board what's the presentation tonight we decided to move that item into a study session which will be scheduled sometime in the early part of January I think something that's important to us and inclusion plant would need a broader platform president that's at least two to three hours to begin that conversation moving forward we also looking at scheduling a another board study session for the budget and how the budget has been impacted as well as the development of Gary goes in the future as well I wish to take a moment to address the my appreciation for the students who share their concerns on the last Friday news report I know it was not an easy thing fair but it was nonetheless needed I regret that we still have a long way to go to address all about facility concerns but we are focusing on working with the existing structures and programs and in the timeline we have I wanted to say Dan and I'm hoping the Mystic when can back up with some detail the key concern is a 600000 of probably 700,000 plus tiles that we need to remove there is a balance between a movie an interrupting instructional program about students so that's something that we take him seriously but all the other issues I can we are addressing them slowly moving forward and I wish to also express my appreciation and well the opportunity from the community members to keep on talking and sharing their concerns with us and collaborate with us so that we can find a way to move the whole system for words I wish to you a few minutes to buy to my executive members and then take a few minutes at the end and if I can turn the time over to dr. Tran and I attended an announcement that was made by dr. Cooper I'm at the vending Museum where she announced that she would be leaving the district how to become an assistant superintendent in a nearby district and the the emotions the response the the thankfulness that everyone gave to dr. Cooper for her years of dedicated service very dedicated service to Culver City High was very very impressive so I would just like to take this opportunity to thank dr. Cooper for her many years of service as counselor and principal at Culver City High School in addition to that on behalf of Human Resources we wish everyone happy holidays thank you, good evening to all I office has been busy this last weekend and having a wonderful time last Tuesday we presented at the the frost on the unconscious bias people for a PGA education good night the opening was presented by high school student Leah Simone with an outstanding spoken word a couple with a choreographed performance by graduating senior Janiyah or who is also president of baby baby p a dance president of the BSU and a posse finalists will wait to hear those great news the education night file format with participants joining in the theater in person and be a zoom engage with matters of understanding implicit and unconscious bias their role is parents stakeholders in the district Equity plan and will provide resources to challenge their way of the presentation was recorded and will be shared with all just your parents via the PGA Communication System mr. Tran also spoke about his experience before he was actually called by his name it was very moving it was the first of its kind of organized by vice president of PTA Council for d e I organize ER and we look forward to more opportunities on Thursday last week we had a PTA diversity chair Round Table where the school said the PTA diversity shares came together for us to discuss the disc social justice and Equity plan and strengthen their school side zei parent committees we were at the Culver City Middle School in the NPR I'm we talked about different methodologies to understand all that is a GI and we also talked about the cultural proficiency framework which our work is based on we look forward to more opportunities such with the PTA diversity chairs currently we're in the midst of a youth group is survey survey the deadline is Friday is for students grades 3 through 12 staff and families at this Anonymous turd provide students with the opportunity this year feedback about their overall experience of school in areas such as well-being and social engagement and culture this data will be used to inform the next iteration of the equity advisory plan more importantly students will be trained on how to interpret and present is their own data as well as parents and staff this is not something it's something that they will learn how to present in this morning and interpret what that means we're looking forward to that you are which is having a presentation at the January meeting his investment activity Culver City High School with their weekly fluent love of word creative writing and poetry program and stage of Life Class we look forward to seeing you data and opportunities they've had to work with the high school and middle school in January and happy holidays to everyone. I was actually going to say most of my comments for later in the meeting because I have quite a few expensive items on the agenda but just to respond to some of the comments and things that have come up as far as there was some questions about the Bora. Peoria towards the South olympios Doug million dollars at those three big HVAC projects that have already been previously discussed and approved it prior board meeting so that's why those are on the PO list. ads that were mentioned are being purchased from a restricted Grant we're so that money can't be used for something else like before facilities it's coming out of a specific ran for technology and Equipment there was no El Marino call Stryker custodians that I have never heard that anyone seems to be aware of that the principal has said anything about so I'm not sure where that came from El Marino custodial staff was completely in place and we actually had extra stop it all of our sites at the beginning of the year so I'm not quite sure where that one came from but I'd be happy to follow up on it and I want to be clear about one thing as far as the news report in the facility's hey I do not ever do count any report the facilities issues or any student experiences anyone or any group that has ever contacted me directly will get a response and has always got a response we are aware of the issues we acknowledge the issues we know what's going on out there and we're doing everything we can to remediate them on an ongoing basis you just you won't necessarily always see the work but things are happening and I try to report on those as much as possible when we do the facilities update which I'll do later in the meeting just to offer a couple of quick ones on the restrooms we've basically doubled our custodial staff to cheer so they should be getting taken care of if they're still not I will keep following up on that I do go out to our sights on a regular basis and especially the high school the ceiling tiles as Mr fan mentioned we couldn't get a contractor to work around either students or Furniture but we have someone in place who's actually starting on Monday as soon as the holiday starts they'll be doing the main hallway at the high school where the biggest issues are so that contract will be out there ripping down all those ceiling tiles and putting up nice new pretty one so I'll have more later on when I get to the facility update but I did want to mention those topics thank you if I may be permitted to take a few minutes to appreciate the opportunity that I had working with doctor at 11 and Miss brightest M the board I wanted to are the the inspiration of I receive from working the book theaters deep conversation asking difficult questions and then started to tried out the fine balance between meeting the immediate needs of the district. but then creating a system where are the whole district will move forward it's always a challenge conversation because at times we would have to make certain priority listing but I've been educated as well as supported by both Mitchell pride and and dr. Cooper was supposed to help me at the end I don't know what happened I emailed her and she tried to contact the director nothing ever had I've waited like 2 months already and we never got to have the meeting aside from that I was actually I met up with Hailey and I was really excited to see her speak today and talk about the ABC7 I don't use I don't know if you guys there was a lot of students who else to talk about it and I've got a report my student I bought a substitute of having an incident when a ceiling tile almost falling on her head while she was teaching yeah and I bought a student also having a mental break on his head as well well aside from that finals are coming and it says that a little bit stressed but really excited about the break so yeah thank you thank you okay that takes us to members of the board and traditionally the board president goes last but I'm not there in person and I got a chance to do my speech last time so I would like to do this evening will have Doctor Kim followed by undescended Sola by me and we'll give the bride the last word thank you dr. Levin thank you all for being here tonight and supplies to have so many of you in the audience both in person and unzoom I do want to just take a couple moments to respond to comments from the audience before I get into my room and the first is just simply meant for Clint would you please let us know after following up with the security director about that meeting that did not happen to high school ASD representative that would be great because 2 months seems like a long time to wait and I do really appreciate the cabinets responses to the comments regarding meeting and sensibilities it's important that we address people's concerns and so I feel that the concerns were responded to but at the same time I heard people saying that they feel on bird and unresponded to and so I just want to reiterate that I am really interested in being responsive and so if I'm not getting back to you please ping me again it is my intent to be as responsive as possible and to direct your concerns to the person who can resolve and on occasion I have concerns to the person who can resolve them and then leave it there because it's in there it's in there to do list but sometimes that means that I haven't responded to the initial concern letting them know that I did that follow up so it's possible that I'm leaving those loose ends and I just want to acknowledge that that's a possibility and I invite you to play me again by I want a report out on a couple of activities that have been happening because we haven't met as a body for a month today I went over to La by owner Elementary School in that with their counseling department it was a pleasure we are doing really excellent work in our elementary counseling and at the same time last year at this time we were wondering if we were going to renew these positions and I'm certain that everyone in the audience knows that we are in the midst of the mental health sister Angie 12 students and k14 & Beyond and so I wanted to just make really clear that I hope that we will continue to fund these positions next year and I'd love for the board to hear via Friday memo or otherwise what our plans are I know that those counselors don't know the status of their positions for next year we have it's my understanding that we have at least one full-time concert every elementary school right now but that was not the case two years ago and it wasn't even completely the case last year of the pig I understand correctly so we're doing really excellent were and we need to sustain it and continue to support that so I can get an update on it very soon I want in particular recognized Viana Leo Mas Serrano at La Bona for giving me a really nice overview of the program that the elementary counselors are running right now and more and more to come. Hopefully I also just because the custodians are being raised a lot of stuff came across one of our most beloved custodians Tony Savoy Matlab Leona and he continues to just get her accolades and in a time where we're hearing so much about lack of cleanliness I think it's really important to recognize mr. so join at Lebanon as being an outstanding custodian a wonderful day on the board went to San Diego for the State School Board Association meeting it was a pleasure I think I won't spend time speaking about it and tonight hopefully we'll spend some more time reporting out on it as a body and and talk about how we're building Rapport as a team few board members went to Los Angeles County School trustees association meeting last night that is also something that I think I'll save my more lengthy report out on for another time but it was also a pleasure and and I want to I want to share my own kind remarks to miss McBride Mystic Friday I want to stay. and I really have enjoyed the many occasions where I got to know you and your family personally I also really got a lot out of the times that we were able to collaborate with colleagues those collaborations continue to inform my work today including the ways in which you invited need to be more holistic in my advocacy I will continue to carry with me the gratitude that I have for the years where you were a very reliable source of emotional support and I will not forget them I know you are anywhere and I'm genuinely grateful to know that we will still be working together and I look forward to that thank you is that Missoula thank you so much president for recognizing me. I think I just want to give us summary of all the activities I have been participating in this month it's been a long month I did at ncsba we will have more tea bags in January we also had a very robust meeting and with a lot of participation from different stakeholders different community members I also attended elac and Aladdin and those are two meetings are really important to me because one is the local Town ability plan that really looked at how are we spending the money for unduplicated student who are on house who are in foster care or core English language Learners and so how do we spend this under the money is super important and this is why I intend for English Learners and how they're progressing it is one of our rooms of students that continue to have one of the widest and achievement and that's why attend and I hope to be reporting a little bit of what's happening there in the future and I also attended Alaska specifically because at the presentation with some mental health and is impacting both our students our staff and our teachers and I hope will to talk about that in January and some of that data and I'd like to and with my they are well do miss McBride dancing first one to give you my little gift that I have prepared for you and then I'll from the first day I saw you in 2017 I was impressed with your passion and commitment for serving on the on this board I admire the way you boldly advocated for students to have the highest quality education and access to extracurricular activities on the board thousands of more impacted by these advocacy f including my own two children graduated during your tenure in the labor and school sites how you made sure to talk to all of these community members and bring your findings to the board thank you for showing us a model of governance that will be difficult to replicate without you vast network of Connections in the community but one we should all strive to achieve your passion for serving tells me this position is just one of the main Public Service Edwards you will be executing in the I am so grateful to have met you I'm grateful for the warden we were able to achieve one-on-one and I'm also grateful for the service that you have provided to The District in Ybor City and wish you a heartfelt farewell thank you Miss McKnight thank you Miss and Missoula I will be quite brief let me say first of all as I am leaving the board that means I have a little more free time if there are teachers out there who want me to talk to your students about science that's always been one of my first loves education and I need to the incoming members of the board some of you I voted for some of you I didn't all of you I have full faith and confidence that you will do a good job that you're in it for the right reasons that you have capabilities perspectives that will be an asset to the district so welcome to all of you and if there's anything I can do to help you again please feel free to contact and Thomas McBride summer let me start by echoing the comments that I think you've been a great School Board member and in particular I want to highlight that the times that I have found the most respect for you and the the that I have steamed as the most striking time when you were doing a job doing a good job we're actually the times when we disagreed I have never once fell on the school board that your disagreement came from anything but the best interest of the students the School District employees Community we may have disagreed about facts or about the best way to approach a problem but we never disagreed about goals and I always felt that I learned something when we disagreed the times when we agree you know those happen more often those are much more commonplace they're not as much of a learning experience The Learning Experience I got I would say the most important one for me was when we were on opposite sides of something and I really appreciate the way you conducted yourself and the way you act it support number thank you and now you get the last word thank you Doctor lemon I just want to thank you because I feel the same way I've learned a lot from you about issues related to our students that every time we would go to any conference I would try to sit next to back door so I can pick his brain about all things space-related thank you for a challenging my own thoughts and for serving our district 4 or was it almost 10 years yeah almost 10 years and we're just being such a Great Khali bear with me I've always said that I'm a parent first and that has never and will never change I am proud of the work that I've done over the last six years having never missed a meeting but I have missing my kids birthdays and an aunt of we are too but I can say with all honesty that it was worth the sacrifice to serve this community and I will say that I'm proud because I didn't have to manipulate my way into rooms and spaces I didn't have to intimidate people in order to have a seat at the table get my friends to the door I slept well knowing that every decision I made was when I wrestled with and way to understand the impact who would would benefit and would might Farm I'll be the first to admit that my decisions were not always perfect and there are some things that I might have done differently after gaining a deeper understanding what I don't have are any regrets as a result of insincere or selfish motives I've never manipulated my constituents or sacrifice my Integrity for clouds those of you new to these positions and even those of you who have been here for a while I strongly encourage you to do something radical and things for yourselves don't get distracted by the fact that some see this as just a local school board but also don't be blinded by the light of praise and privilege that comes with being a dignitary we are starving there are always politics at play and you cannot for the sake of these students and all that is right you cannot assume that people know your intentions are good just because you say they are your job to lay your reputation your bright ideas self-preservation on the line for every single student in ccusd go into every meeting as if it is your child with an IEP or your child who is food insecure showing up 5 days out of hungry imaginators your child was are going to make friends and feeling alone on campus during lunchtime pretended as your child who may not graduate on time because there is still no cold apart and they don't feel they belong anywhere else and yes I know that over the years some of you have already shared personal stories the difficulties you've experienced and educational space is being queer or English Learners and that's great however it's one thing to experience it personally and another thing to work tirelessly so no one else has to experience that I'm asking to feel what our families feel feel what our staff though and make your decisions by centering them and their needs and not your own interest as I process the election results in went to the range of emotions I have to figure out what made me satisfied turns out I'm I'm sad about not being re-elected I'm sad that I don't trust that we have a true democracy and Culver City because of Ben Timmy that intimidation and unseemly politicking most of which have come from some self professing Progressive leaders who pretend to care about our kids but instead show up as performing his allies silencing the voices of the very by Park when they claim to be a pipeline nevertheless I'm leaving this election season with so much more than I started friendships have been formed and many have been string alliances have been built with a shared vision for a better ccusd you've all heard the expression a stone positive intentions after six years and local government and on this board that is one of the worst things you can do assume anything question everything when it comes to our children and the people holding or hoarding the power making decisions that affect our children's education it is sad but true but not everyone is here for the right reasons you decide for yourself who is and always pay attention not just what's said but to what's done it's no secret that I've long advocated for schools to be repaired before focusing on work clothes how is it Workforce housing or any other attention-getting project are more about objects than responsibilities and student center chair I had three calls when I lost my campaign obviously to win that one didn't work out but also to educate this community community about the needs of our schools while working to dismantle the house of cars built by those who only serve to bring attention to themselves and not the needs of our students we made progress with these goals but there was still more educating and dismantling to do when state and federal legislators call out the atrocities of other legislators politicians we celebrated as truth-telling in many ways local politics impacts our daily lives more than the state and federal politics could ever and I think it's time we start speaking our truths right here we can do it with respect but it needs to be done on the left people often confuse trust with respect respect should be the basis for how we interact with one another trust is earned ccusd and this board has work to do to earn the trust of many in our community and it won't happen by gaslighting this missing or ignoring concerns from students staff and families there is no substitution for transparency and accountability and it can't be safe for disingenuous tweets but I got a life for the lgbtq Plus for indigenous people for the Latino Community for students with disabilities for those who are on house for students on permits for black people Ally should know are wrong Ally should stay in their Lane because we you don't you take up space and you become the obstacle rather than a change agent and for those of you who think being an ally simply means tweeting and retweeting black. Leaders you're wrong no one cares what you tweet of your actions don't align with your allies and it's harmful dockbridge don't matter when you're not as smart as you think you are and you're fooling fewer and fewer people by the day a good Ally doesn't take the plight of black people silence communities are the underserved to Parlay that into a lucrative political or professional career those are called Brewster before you make decisions that will directly impact 7,000 students and 800 + employees and in all the families they represent ask yourself how many people have you talked to outside of your Echo chamber have you visited the site how many meetings have you taken to hear from people with different perspectives how many hours have you spent volunteering alongside the people you represent how often do you reply to email the people who don't hold any power that you can't we are career that matter because they're looking to you to advocate for their children as for me it was said earlier I'm not going anywhere you might hear and see from me even more and see me at even more so now that I have a little extra time on my hands I will so you're serving on the EIC be environmentally the environmental sustainability Food Services subcommittee supporting the DEA see the black parent affinity group will continue supporting the arts advocating for equity in our athletic programs and volunteering my time supporting our students open teachers I don't need a title to show up and serve never have and I never will I know that true leadership is not about the amount of the shower you have but about how much power you give to others for their needs are prioritized I've learned how much from so many people and I want to thank my family my husband who's on Zoom London are five Sons ucccjsd students in one recent graduate my parents might Village has been here with me since day one Rebecca Williams who has been a rock for me in his district and over the last six years I want to thank Our Food Services Workers custodians busdriver secretaries noon duties and all the South will keep our district running but are often forgotten I want to thank all the teachers and Educators who worked countless hours designing curriculum and lesson plans while also bringing joy to their classrooms to that students are excited about learning thank you to our counselors therapist Ministry doesn't District leaders students you know who you are thank you to every pizza and booster member and all of our family to volunteer to make our schools better thank you to every person who donated voted canvas and supported the I can't name you all but I will give a special shout-out to the Culver City city of color Collective are certificated in classified unions Ray long and then Debbie hammy local and state electives like supervisor Holly Mitchell also our own city councilwoman Yasmine Imani mcmorran and Congress woman elected account login who is in the house tonight or both two people I really look up to and I'm so grateful for thank you to my former colleagues dr. Stephen Levin and doctor to Sean mckeithen thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of my friends who became family over the years and hold me accountable what also holding space for me when times were especially rough I can't name you all because I leave someone else and thank you to every member of this community who emailed called stopped me in the market are made public comment so call me out or to call me and when you disagreed with my position bizarre above reproach even when we didn't agree I am grateful for the accountability that since the start of this election season I've worn this bracelet right here and inside of the little squirrel that I wrote One mission and it's a constant reminder of why I'm here and on this little scroll they're just three simple words and it says win with love that means the love for our students the love for public education law for local government to transform lives for better left for truth and Community Law Firm Thomas and the opportunity to help build love for the people who care deeply and consistently show up for students I may have had I may not have the outcome that I wanted but I know that I stay true to my convictions and I did it with this isn't the end it's the beginning of a new way of I've been a parent ccusd for 13 years and I've only been on the board for 6 I know how to show up and work for my community and give back to the people who have given so much to me and my family my favorite quote is from the late great Arthur Ashe start where you are use what you have do what you can and I'm taking what I've learned and will continue to use it to do whatever I can to make our schools better every single day for every single student was so much loving from the bottom of my heart I just want to thank you thank you I think we might need a moment but that takes us to the oath of office for incoming board members okay the oath of office has a commenter how shall we proceed without doctor love whoever it is speak right now I seen the Sun good evening cuz I left the high school yesterday I looked up the electronic sign and it said if you see something say something student stop and families that is not as easy as it sounds and not without repercussions and sometimes retaliation three new board members on various committees and councils that you are all folks and say something when you see something I hope you will all continue to ask the hard questions much more powerful position into especially push for measurable data on our programming and how it supports our students I do want you all to say that this is a special night for any educator that had any small part did Mister as if I sent you is he a graduate of cchs be elected to the school board it's a truly proud moment not only for me but for many teachers at the high school recommendation that I wrote for Mister as a door two years ago where among other things I wrote his fight is not for himself but for all students and as such he promises to become an important leader in the social causes he believes in sorry I'm so nervous I'm shaking anyone that knows me knows that's where I listed all the clubs that she participated in that he was the ccusd Student Union the speaker is in the present then I reached out to include the middle school students in the student council on the positive behavior intervention and support Council the sexual harassment Action Group and the council member of the black Student Union City water and hunger crisis she's a member of the student group PLC for change as well as culturally and linguistically responsive the ccusd many if not most of his actions or membership service examples of Christians advocacy not only for himself but for all students and this is the last line of my recommendation I wrote I believe Tristan we'll go on to make a community of Culver City very proud indeed thank you so I think as I am offended that now that we're ready to swear in the new board members that concludes my duties as a board member and as president of the board and I think if I remember right The Way We Were we do that is mr. historical moment possible I stand on the shoulders of those who came before me and struggled and those who have opened the door open for me I have immense gratitude and love for my I'm painting my supporters and doors are supposed and volunteers I can't express my feelings enough to those wonderful folks might have used other venues to reach out to them previously and now I can go on and on about all the things that I'm hopeful to accomplish I'm here because my daughter Ray Lee and her friend Josie were serving out the store before me and it was barely that I took it is our students voices I followed and I hope we all remember that whenever we have challenges to overcome we are unified in serving our students really didn't is named after a very special on his mind he's addicted to along with her husband's teenage daughter and mother perished in a home fire 15 years ago yesterday as they were the ones who allowed me to live with them in their hump three-bedroom home when I first started my career I shared a room with Lola Grandma floaties and commuted from Jersey City to Manhattan on a Spanish-speaking minibus daily they provided me a study start while I was forever changed by witnessing their service to others in love your semitism immigrant strange and Powerful parental engagement the day I shine a light on fire safety so that others can avoid harm please especially in this winter season at practice fire safety in your home makeup how to get out immediately If You Smell Smoke and reunited the safe distance thank you so much thank you so much for the president wow I am incredibly grateful to everyone who made this win possible just looking out at everyone and let's pretend that the card was still here just look at everyone in being in this space is incredibly special you all are an awesome sight to behold I am grateful beyond words to my loving family my dedicated team and to the many volunteers to me my brothers in table Shaker who made today if possible I want to start off by recognizing outgoing board members cutting with what president live in if he still here and if not house dedication commitment and thoughtful questions how much is 10 year of the bludgeon Great accomplishments in this District Board member McBride my sister in service who served as board president of the time of my tenure as a student leader in star school always showed solidarity and support but the most pressing issues are students are facing and for making sure the equity is not a piece of the plate but the entire play wow do I have shoes to fill out I don't think you were missed if I didn't pay them any Visionary bald black leaders who am I Papa screenshotted the ceiling and built the bench for me to be here today and although I know none of us ran to make history historical context of my election is not lost on me in my own capacity on the first black male to sit on this body and also the youngest elected official and all of l.a. County but all that's to say that when we come together we are powerful and today we are standing in power same power that I thought as a student leader in this district and the same power that compelled me to raise my hand and not ask for permission to lead I'm not one to speak for my colleagues but I think I can wholeheartedly say but with each and every one of them individually and especially my new colleagues who I have the honor of sharing the pilot with today's message is simple lunch we're ready to work for you and I don't meet are ready to work for you up already swear you because of weed at the community room at the collective are writing the next chapter for this District where no one is unseen known as in a herd and no one is uninspired I like to end with the quote but I have the honor of hearing at the swearing-in of Eric Hernandez from The Honorable Amanda Gorman who said no the wind is not where it is but by we're blowing lead not just for today before work tomorrow is going to be as I sit here over flooded with emotions inspired I'll stay here with the willingness in a Readiness to extend my hand out it disabled Xtreme we will do things together board member Guerrero Levin and and Miss McBride for their service and all the changes they brought the district I'd like to thank everyone who helped in out and then believed what we're trying to accomplish here but especially I'd like to thank my wife she said yeah and my son Maxwell who is a product of the Culver City Unified by literacy program who have been endless support and inspiration for for me and everybody who got the kids in the district and the community at large we have some challenges that we need to work on we need to do a better job communicating and engaging with all the families and stakeholders in the district we need to make sure that we continue to enrich and challenge our students and prepare them from college all of our students we need to continue to support our students who struggle with academics or behavior mental health issues we have large class site it says we have some chili just to staff morale facilities might be a challenge none of those are new none of those are challenges that arose overnight but it's time that that we finally resolve these issues once and for all these issues didn't happen in the day it's going to take more than a day and more than a week and more than a month even to fix them but we are on the road to doing that together and with the participation of the community people have the right to be impatient I would encourage posed to be constructively and pay is patient and then engage in continue engaging and what I can promise is that I that we are working as a team will come to creating better and more open and more transparent communication wider and more inclusive and more meaningful engagement listening progress which may sometimes be slow and steady but it will always be progress for and better outcomes for all of our students and better outcomes for our staff and better outcomes for our for our families but this is a project that we do together as a board get the project we do together as school Des it's a project that we do together as a community so thank you for your trust and I look forward to working with all of you thank you I would like to take a point of Lynch and that is every board member who sat on this guy has today received a little book called The Four Agreements also if the student board members are online and ready for you Mr and will distribute to you later the reason I gave this little booklet to all my colleagues is a during my time here on the board I have the time to reference the book The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz many many times I reference it during quiet time when I meet reflection time I referenced it when I during high-stress times I also reference it when I'm defeated Forum energy Don Miguel Ruiz states that agreements The Four Agreements that he talks about a husband Come From Love help us to conserve energy even gained energy so sheer is my unsolicited advice to all the elected officials in this book by your side here's a summary The Four Agreements be impeccable with your word words have power speak with Integrity do not gossip speak in love don't say anything personally what others do have do with them more than you at best you can influence and even that is limited number 3 do not make assumptions ask question clarify we are leaving or what you want do not assume others will know number for always do your best your best will change according to your health your circumstances and time forgive yourself if your best is not perfect no one is so that's my unsolicited advice and I believe the price of this is really low so you don't have to report it but I just want let the community know what I had gifted to all my elected officials in this in my point of privilege thank you so much and I love you I'm going to move forward with information items which is 11.1 president, so I think we're ready to move down to 11.22% remember report and will be shared with the board and mr. Robert Queen thank you mr. Happy to say board president just a reminder or an introduction the first interim that is first interim report that is due to the county by December 15th similarly to the second interim report that's due in March is our way of updating the county on what our actual Zen project things are in the budget relative to the adopted budget that the board adopted prior to July 1st I do want to mention that as mr. Tran said before or after the governor's Jen revised in January and January where we get a lot more information on what the state budget is doing and how that affects us will be doing a more in-depth budget Workshop one of those separate Workshop or we can just talk about the budget gives us much more than but you need to really have an in-depth discussion about a lot that's going on because this one is pretty much just for updates the first thing to note in the budget document itself starting on page 3 is what we call our narrative and runs through and it's kind of just a summary of what's going on in the full document and what I'll be getting an even shorter summary of tonight that generally will answer a lot of your questions about what is this about and what's the purpose the assumptions and some of the changes I don't generally read it because it is 7 pages long but it is there at the beginning of the budget document so having said all that I'll go into my presentation and as I said since this is an opportunity to update on changes since the adopted budget those are the main things that we focus on I hope all your on Zoom cuz I don't think we have a shared on the screen in the room but I have it on Zoom a PowerPoint there a way for us to share it. cuz even earlier I was hoping that I would wish that the the the citizenship yeah right in my word. Cuz I'm driving I have it but like not all messes it up do you want to go ahead and start or wait for her it sounds like we're going to take a few minutes to wait for the presentation to be in the boardroom they just wanted the PowerPoint on yeah I went to my email I didn't get in do you think you everyone for your patience we have the Temptation and the being projected in the boardroom and now we will proceed as I was mentioning that I changed since the adopted budget the first thing 2 about is really our bottom line because that's the most important thing to the financial health of the district the net increase in our fund balance just means are we deficit spending or or Surplus right now where we projected a surplus of $432,000 for the year. Has increased to 9.6 million almost which obviously is a big difference and we'll get some of the reasons for that in just a moment but again that's that's the effect on her bottom line so it's really the one thing we want to it's on at the beginning so the reason for those changes are based on increased revenue and there's also some increased expenditures that will get you on the next flight but to look at the revenue changes at the time we did the proposed budget the end of June we were aware of the states Cola that they were giving us which I think came out to be five or 6% something in that area but after that they added on this additional lcff amount to our base sign language they didn't call Cole I always just an increase that based on day we knew we were getting it but it wasn't official yet and we can include things in our budget until they become official so since it became official after July one we put it in there in that increase our Revenue by ABBA two and a half million dollars are 3 is one of the cares act covid related funds and they just increased our amount by about $280,000 not a lot to the general, mounted overall Grant and then there's two new one-time grants that the funding came in again we knew about those we knew they were coming but they were not official at the time so we've now included those in our Revenue learning recovery and in the Arts music and Channel materials block around and I think I mentioned one of the expenditures like iPads will come out of the instructional materials part of that will be bringing expenditure plans for those at a later date but those increased our Revenue by about nine point seven $9 and just a reminder those are restricted funds so when we get to the difference between unrestricted and restricted no show up on the restricted side and then on the other side if we look at senators in the change in expenditures since the proposed budget salaries and benefits went up because of additional positions that we hired and then additional Staffing that we've had to do I've added several positions and mot to respond to some of the facilities issues so those are being included in there we got a nursing did the administrative assistant was not included at the time and you can just kind of see if there's other positions in there that we bad in since then most of the books and supplies increase was due to technology that iPads and various other devices Chromebooks that we've been Distributing to our students around the district and then are on our services in operating operating that when due mostly to the newer contract and then increase in NPA nnps cost in special ed although you'll see there are some other Contracting issues in there still for security custodial at set would you please let everyone know that what the acronym J and MPS full-time equivalents and then just finally the last thing we have to really focus on in what in the work we do in the fiscal office and we really have to report to the county is that were able to maintain our finances and our fiscal Health. This year and the following two years so we always want to be looking at our multi-year projection or as we generally call it the nypd's you'll hear me refer to NY quite often when we talked about budgets. One thing that's been really difficult for the district over the last five six seven eight years have been stirs a increases which one of those is finally starting to flatten out although you can see the rain are still relatively High to what we have to pay in correlation to our salaries stepping call him and let us just in case and stars is retirement for certificated people person I meant for a classified staff sorry I tend to get into the locker rooms A Lot the second thing on their step and call him is always budgeted 1% just so you're aware our salary schedules for employees they go up steps up call for every year that they work for the district it's a separate than any negotiated raises it's just a normal progression to our salary schedules and we always calculate that has a generally 1% increase in our expenditures and lcff cost of living adjustment is projected at a good 5% and then 4% for the next two years that's honestly one of the ones we're going to have to keep a real close eye on cuz you know if you're following the news and you're falling what's the economy and never there are thoughts or ideas about a recession coming certainly a possibility on the horizon we really want to keep an eye on the state budget and again will get a lot of information at the January revised we're hopefully things don't get better you know reduces Arcola by any amount but that's what we're rejecting right now because that's the official projections from the state and then actually I think you mentioned counselors or something earlier we are including funding of those 10 three positions with the one-time funds through 24 25 so that's why if you look at our budget year that our budget expenses that go into the out here so you can be on that you'll see the projections will drop after that because the funding in the positions are not a cow but of course that could always change it done at a future meeting or make any comment at this time I would like to open for board discussion if there is any questions I'd like to start with mister Guerrero yes thank you so I actually I I enjoy a good budget and look through it and Mark a whole lot of questions which I responded to those until a part of this is trying to figure out like I want to highlight some of the answers because I do it's time to think the public would be interested in because we are wasting a couple of cases where somebody sees the number doesn't have contacts for it and so if you don't mind I want to go to a couple of those one of the things that I had asked about was there was an increase in in the books and supplies estimate from the original budget for the first game through a mother that line 449 capitalized equipment at one of the things you would said is that they were the flooding and some of that was replacing some of that material which will potentially be reimbursed by Insurance it will be reimbursed by Insurance the portion of it that was relative to the Lynn house on in classrooms how old is that come back into the budget then if it's showing up as an additional cost right now will it show up as an additional Revenue at some point or will it get you a new one for you. We just get a physical check coming from the insurance auditing and accounting and show up its general fund Revenue that lines on traveling conferences with another one that I said this was an increase of 218,000 from July and you responded to that was something through the education educator Effectiveness Grand National development just shows up there for the most part yes most of the expenses that comes from professional development will involve travel okay and then because he's been kind of a topic of Interest tonight funds 25 funds 35 and fun 40 all deal with facilities can you share with with us and then I'll let you know the difference between those three on the on the expenditure side they're all they're all pretty similar we can use use them pretty much for some of its for nuva new construction existing construction but the source of them funds 25 is developer fees we get from the city fun 35 State matching funds that we received from previous projects so when we done other projects and there been grants available do state Bond grants we apply for matching funds we get those in those get deposit into 135 in which we can then use for future facility and then 40 years the redeveloping Redevelopment agency fees when the state and did away with City Redevelopment agencies a while back and now they distribute the money to do it on a certain. Of time just as Redevelopment agencies that we get from the state and again they can all really be used for similar uses and then they were pretty significant increases from July to now with you and shared we're mostly again that HVAC kind of the air call Jason and air circulation system and also at the construction going towards new Tek classrooms correct classroom project which is covering the last of our three offices that do not distract until it's somebody born go to the budget and see that there was a $5 pop right there what's that going towards she's going towards building a new key K & M HVAC and things like that so much thank you thank you I wanted one of the 12. about anybody because I enjoy a good budget if there's a pretty significant drop in federal and state revenues almost 50% that's because current one-time money which kind of artificially inflates the current year goes back to the storage levels that's exactly at the revenue comes in one year we on for the revenue and then we started spending spending it over several years but that's exactly why that Revenue drops okay thank you and thank you for your I don't have any questions at this time thank you sorry Charlie. Thank you so much my question was was about the facilities and and where the the money is going but if you could just please state where the people can find where those are being introduced to the facilities of the city's website and how frequent do the update but yes we have theirs that balloon home page it says facility projects I believe and that's where I'm kind of breaking down all the individual projects that were working on along with a budget summary sheet that I try to update as often as I can so we do have some speakers and may I just talked to her for one moment and then were those on Zoom we understand there are two fans Braves to provide your comment and at this time we are I hear from dr. And then we will I will give her the Kinect okay. questions but I don't have any questions at this time I'm interested in hearing from the public I have one suggestion and I don't know if it's possible I would love to possible when on the website the facility website that we somehow cuz I know you have budgets on the facility website if there is a way to ensure that people that go to the website and then refer to this budget and maybe on the website there can say this is part of form in a 2535 form I can probably do that so that people when they see when our community sees facilities and then they see the interim report they can make the correlation and I'm hoping in this is for a doctor bag that on the El Cap we can start also documenting there. Our local 10 ability plan where people can find the funds in the budget we have an estimated 6 million dollars more on duplicated students these are part of this line item and you can find it in the restricted unrestricted wherever it is on the budget we would like to see that so that when people see that thing there's some correlation this is something that I learned at csba budget needs to support the El Chapo and that we need to identify how the plan is being spent both in the budget and in the two things are correlated I'm waiting out the correlation is not there for me to see and so therefore our community also doesn't see it and my last point I wanted to say is that in the report in the summer of Corey mention if there was 13 million dollar increase in revenues and by the way I also send questions in advance part of the questions and thank you so much mr. Quinn Burger responsive part of it you mentioned that part of it is to increase the LCS and some of the unrestricted but some of will be restricted do we know the percentages of which one is restricted versus unrestricted in and I think the community really needs to continue to be reminded that I spending a 100000 on iPads in a restricted line item and we cannot spend it on fixing the tiles at the high school it is by law which is not and so we need to continue to talk about restricted versus unrestricted and if you look at that that's the increases in our revenues bring it on Zoom also lcff is the Top Line 2.5 million that's the unrestricted and then after 3 and then the two grants down below are the restricted amounts and so you have about 10 million dollars and restricted mode in there my comment is here it would be appreciated if we can highlight restricted unrestricted and really be diligent about letting all of us know that really important aspect of our budget I'm going to move now to public comment and we have to zoom but is there any parts in and we will do two minutes for public comment on this information item we have Melissa Jackie followed by Step Brothers Sweet Melissa Brian Turner at home a little bit there so thank you bye talking about budgets a little bit more clearly it is sometimes for the labor person or even students I think it becomes more of just even understanding that you may be doing something but how do you find it even like Masala Missoula was saying because even in the website the priorities for the master facility plan for the high school just finding out about this website but it doesn't talk about exact oh there's improved classroom buildings and prove outdoor Gathering but nothing to specifically talk about I think and maybe you're going to talk about that in the facilities update but I think there needs to be clear guidelines 24 just the everyday person to understand them what's happening what what you guys are doing actively and kind of heating people's call about this and have like I said a lot of us have brought this up over the last year and I think going forward just having clear explanations of this because we don't know Millions week but we do no breakdowns of little things that might be more accurate readable I guess user-friendly Weatherby the website or anything else that you can actually relate to the students and families even if it's a simple email out of what is happening like I know it's going to time I understand that but like I said when they've been a dress over the last year it's encouraging at least to hear something might be moving forward thank you thank you Miss Stuckey you have such presents me thank you while I fully understand that we are still navigating covid and other health challenges like blue and RC that can it will impact time frame and also appreciating the immense amount of work at mr. Quinn and mr. Kearny I've had to do to prepare this report I didn't. It's only an update it is important to know that this report was not prepared at a time for the most recent Seebeck meeting which was held on Wednesday December 7th so the committee charged with aiding in the monitoring and evaluation of the budget was unable to fulfill their duties with regards to this person report again I understand there challenges and ungrateful that Mr Kenny is doing better but I hope that this committee will be able to do its work in the future thank you that's it for our comments online anything else from our board members on mr. Guerrero and presenting a spending plan in Savannah GA I was just curious what type of consultation staff is done putting that together this is parents been talked to an any any form in that have staff and talked to in any way or is that a van internal plan if I could take that question and the preliminary plan was actually to approach the first conversation with partners and we just happened to have weed Bobby Jindal doing Partnerships and the intention is to begin there and then we'll bring it out to several other advisory groups and we haven't set that up yet but we will be going through the process and then bring it to me for approval and property as an information items first and then a little later okay so what we see probably in January will be very preliminary before those other groups about a chance to have a on it and we'll get a more updated one app I want to make sure that we will know exactly when the planet had to be approved by the board so that officially we can backward mapping that context but we will not skip in consultation with Keely in our community we do not need to go any other board members or two new board members for asking amazing questions real satisfies a lot for me so I appreciate getting to hear all of your questions and I wanted to raise a budget development calendar this is something that we've discussed publicly before shared with mr. Quinn and mr. Tran I believe you were talking about the tiles I just want to clarify the definition of ceiling tiles and it may give the definition or the idea that these are ceramic something heavy something dangerous if it's fall upon a person the fiber board and they were glued on the ceiling upside down many many many years ago I think this solidification the oxidation of the blue so they just falling down at this point they are still a dangerous how students and staff so we are planning to address that as soon as this coming Monday when we are not having students in school so the team will be coming in to figure out a way that that thing removed and then resurfaced the ceiling at the same time trying not to disrupt the instructional displacement of students someone formation for coming and it's the queen will keep dating that the website to clarify defy or items which is to remove those who ceiling tile at this time invite my colleagues to provide income in question and then we will go to public will start with Mr Guerrero I always have questions next president there is a master list somewhere of every classroom in space that's got ceiling tile issues correct we know we're there we know what rooms have ceiling tiles were assuming they're all pro overwinter those main buildings in main Halls are going to be redone timeline for the other places where they are not quite so it's just going to keep anyway for unoccupied time so spring break I would assume a couple weeks and then over the summer will probably get a majority work there and then the other person again I know sometimes that's attracted Wayne kids crashing when it's messy in that kind of thing I know the schools are located next to a creek and get on that contributes to it but overall what is our way of dealing with tests and keeping pests down we have a professional exterminator company vendor that comes in and treats you know whatever it is that they do to treat and then they do trap they put out traps for roaches or rats we're working with them to come out more often to make sure the traps are getting checked cuz I think that's one of the completely understandable complaints that we've been getting is that you know a body will be in there not taking out quick enough so we're getting our own Embassy staff and the extra minutes just to come out more often and make sure they're keeping an eye on those do we have any kind of feedback or data off at not that I want people out there counting roaches or anything like that but you know these traps are filling up quickly these traps not very often and we know what we need to file those reports with mot with our maintenance department glad you didn't come across my desk but I can certainly reach out and find him but I just want to know that I don't record that kind of stuff and then our conversations have been about the high school specifically are we also keeping an eye on the Middle School in the elementary campus is I don't want to necessarily have a ABC7 truck roll up into the other campuses and I'd like it to be proactive on that we do we have access cuz the extra custodial staff at all of our school so it's not just the high school and again or mot stuff going around all the quarters has the biggest struggle can you just tell me if any may be different for each School site but we do have outdoor campuses and I'd like to understand what if there is a procedure or a system and is it different on each campus Because the expectation is in a week we will have passed and that way they will be passed because we are an outdoor campus and so if if someone does spot something if it's the student is he no like what the high school know like what to do or do they just like freaked out and like not do anything about it and then I'd like to know more about what systems you may have in place at each School site and or maybe this is something that we need to work on we have the work order system in place that's not going to do any good for students so I have to talk to the principles and find out like what their policies or procedures are but once it gets to a staff level they'll contact our maintenance department directly or via the work order more emails or something like that and said hey we're having these issues and make sure we get them treated I don't know the student communication process we need to be doing in terms of a district interesting to say we know this maybe this is a situation where you know if you see something you say something you don't and that's part of being a good citizen and and whatever we need to do do in order to relay that to how that works on each School site let let's do that because if somebody does see something suffer if it is or something like that this does happen and for our students to be prepared to report it and report it safely and in a way that makes them feel welcome to write a report thank you moving now to sorry about that exterminator and I'm just wondering if there the schedule for that and it's not sure what that schedule looks like and if not would it be possible for us to maybe look into getting the schedule I wouldn't want to miss that believe its monthly because we had asked them to start weekly when we were having to go back and check just to make sure that every site yeah I'm I'm want Express again the Deep appreciation for this website I do feel that it's been transformative superintendent that we invite our messaging people mr. mailman perhaps to delete this site out against whatever our other channels are like heard multiple times and that is did we do asbestos testing before the work is starting on Monday on the ceiling tiles they came back negative of course we'll probably it's best they generally talk about in the the drywall mud and tape behind the tiles if that happens to be the the surface be on the tiles I'll be getting Disturbed and so it's not hard and so is it possible for you to look at this mess bestos report and posted for on the facilities website it's something really important to our community to proceed done and in the war came to men and I would say that an explanation of what valuation because we actually did asbestos abatement in our own house and it wasn't the tiles it was actually the gluepot that it was attached to that had a small amount of asbestos that was concerning enough that we actually did the abatement clarification or at least evidence of all of that would be great I think an email out to the district would be great with an update even as simple as Monday on this just to let us know things are being evaluated and address and and what's being done I know the website is big and difficult kind of follow right this second but even including that I think would be key that would be important the other thing obviously room in elimination is also important to include safety so I think if it is being done that much then there needs to be kind of warning the kind of thing if people are having asthma allergy that's something I don't know if it's just outside or inside or what but I know previously it was. prior to campus even opening usually is when it happened but I just want to make sure that that's a key issue as well also I think there's a big concern for the ADA wheelchair accessibility and how is this being addressed I guess another big concern because it's not just about that kind of safety but Ada is important just as important as anything else so I think that should be kind of address by the board thank you Melissa Sanders hi I am really concerned about the asbestos as well just because of the age of the building and I believe on the bond that was done years ago ceiling tiles was on the list so I would be curious if there is an ongoing database of what if any rooms hallways excetera were replaced and you know what that what they tested or we know what the deal was so that's still an ongoing concern I have to be honest across the entire District so depending on when the schools are and then I do find it really upsetting that the district would have the audacity to send out an email that basically trying to gas Lenox community you know about the fact that we have a complete infrastructure I've known that for years you had our future write a report that said it you've ignored it you've just pretended that like somehow it'll all get better and it has it so I really hope it does new school board that we will tackle this head-on and in every way possible and think outside the box to do it and figure out why there is a massive problem like this at the high school and the middle school and yet Farragut where my kid goes I don't see rats and mice all day long I don't have roaches in the classroom I don't have kids do you know destroying toilets and such I don't have kids not throwing away their trash so there seems to be perhaps campus-wide issues with those two campuses in particular because we're all outside were all against the creek so you can't blame that as the reason there might be some rats and mice but I really do hope we get to the bottom of this I hope we get it fast I hope the board and the district will be transparent and there should be weekly emails with every single update thank you thank you Kathy Grasso I I I I want to make some comments and I want to make them gently cuz I feel like facilities I'm getting hammered but there is a little accountability here I have to talk about first of all is mentioned that the dashboard I'm happy about the dashboard but it hasn't been transformative because we haven't really seen any improvements at the high school campus as a result of the dashboard and I want to talk about the work order situation as well because I have think we have policies but then there's the reality I've had a broken window on my classroom for four years and I for about a year I kept putting in work orders and Final I was told that they couldn't find the latch and I swear that's what I was told they couldn't find the latch and this year my classroom was actually broken into through that window mine and the classroom connected to mine were broken into through that window nothing of great importance was taken some things that could be replaced which was okay but that is the reality and just another example of that you know we put in work order to have the clock in the teacher copy room fixed and it took that spanned an academic year so again I'm sorry to make these comments because I know everyone's working as hard as they can but I do think reality needs to be we need to be aware of the reality thank you thank you mr. long with this crossover but I think it's great that we have this website up and running releases page on our web page we're far from it being transformative because we have so many problems and I think our biggest problem Robert had alluded to just keeping up with the number of work orders I think that's really our biggest issue right now I'm glad because it does give information to people but I don't want us to feel like we have a website and we're good to go because that happens all too often that we say that Griffin on the echo Christian hotline about you know somewhere where they can report because they're more students than anybody else on those campuses and they're seeing things you know and it doesn't work necessarily like a work order somebody doesn't brush his dad but if you're seeing the same types of reports turnover from student that's certainly an indicator of some things I think that's a really good idea to explore I'm concerned about that I remembered from the the news thing about ADA access do we have a sense of is every space ADA Compliant and get a wheelchair and disability accessible or do we have some spots that need that type of improvement still that we've got to get to it one of these days every recent examination that is not shown any Ada access problem so if there are some out there I'm not aware of them and I would be love for someone to share
