thank you so much for letting us know about the recording okay we still have for the zoom room the first one would be its labeled Marcy I'm guessing it's Miss Bond miss Mom when you're ready okay here I am so I am also coming on to express concern about this close session kind of I'm going to somewhat duplicate what Miss laducer said Carolyn said because it has since we don't really trust you the board because there have been multiple Brown act violations potentially what's going to be happening between 6 and 10 could be another Brown act violation there been issues with the way that the board has used mejor que van we're going to be deficit next year but nothing truly has been done about the fact that tran has cost us over $1000000 in penalties and fines and and frequently when people email the board or email mr. Tran we received no response we don't get any answers and we're ignored nobody wants you to build housing we want you to take care and maintain the schools that we currently have we want to be sure that our kids in this community are getting the education and I deserve we want to make sure that the staff and the kids and the students and the faculty everybody on the campus or States and none of this seems to be happening and in and around the schools to in a couple weeks thank you okay and you know I mean in the last the last day of school there were issues with kids lighting off firecrackers in the neighborhood so it's not just firecrackers but large fireworks in the neighborhood right after school and nothing was done about it so these are the types of issues that we want the board to focus on not on the potential of selling off Strickland if if you could prove to us that you were trustworthy we might actually believe what you say but at the moment you've completely lost our trust and that's sad because what this really comes down to is our kids and their future and the future of our community and it at this moment it just doesn't seem like you care for more you do you care more about some agenda rather than what we have right here right now and taking care of what we have thank you thank you Miss Vaughn next we have Sanders hi if you can hear me yes so I am disconcerted by many things but the fact that you wrote as your 4.1 review of faculty and staff survey discussing options to further improve the district's educational programs and operation when it's really the survey that you did with Brookwood and I called him Brookwood Bruce because I was the only one at Farragut to show up the fact that you were purposely willfully and intentionally misleading the public about what 4.1 is it again exactly all what you guys do let's deflect let's misrepresent let's lie about what we're really doing because that's what you're doing now it's nice that you put your legal tivity in the report and yes I've already downloaded it just in case you guys try to remove it but the fact you can tell him to hold closed session item that are against the brown act doesn't stand a sound anymore because you guys just don't care about the Lost don't care about using anything properly you completely ignore all regulations and state Ed codes it's really quite impressive how horrible you are at following rules so 4.1 terrified but it does say that nobody wants housing so hopefully a listen to that that would be life nice I would love to see the water bill after this week's Fiasco and that tran doesn't understand the concept of renting Porta please that he let water flow millions and millions and millions and millions of gallons of water flow out in a drought region exclusive just order a porta potties what was destroying that because he is also at the source of this thank you I'm not done I said I'm going to be June 2nd I can talk about other things I can clip talk about the conference that you're having illegally Miss Miss Miss Sanders right now it's a special meeting in the public that I can talk about 5.1 days out thank you very much okay 5.1 you continue to do a Brianna violation bye-bye don't even understand how you can list icademy as a separate piece of property. Azhar I mean what the heck is that about does the parking lot in Farragut said they have its own personal love to see that I still don't understand why you think this is going to be a closed session give me the nuts okay so I'm also concerned that you guys are forgetting and still wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars on the master time we already did that already has housing at the district office site so there's nothing about this closed-session meeting that is logical it's not legal and I really wish that it's some point one of you would wake up and do the right thing that would be so appreciative so now I will let thank you. text Liz Carlson and if you could also please remember to state which items are seeking him about that would help us greatly thank you so much okay great thank you this is it 5.1 good afternoon word is once again trying to move forward with a secret meeting the real estate again this is not an appropriate topic for it does not fit within the real estate exception for the guidance of California attorney general multiple public comments most recently in May the purpose of the exception is to protect a local agencies bargaining position that's to keep confidential its deliberations as stated in the opinion we conclude that theory State negotiation of infections the open meeting requirements of the brown act for B the post session discussion of one the amount of consideration that the agency is willing to pay or or transferred in the particular transaction the form Manner and timing of how that consideration will be paid and three that items that are essential to arriving at the authorized price and payment terms such that their public disclosure would be tantamount to revealing information be kept confidential both Council and board members none of the information to actually being discussed today that no action is being taken rather than simply a preliminary discussion of being kept from the public currently because there are some members of the public that might might not like what I hear that's not a good or sufficient reason to proceed procession War over unless the board intends to empower the superintendent three Booker advisors employees District Council to lease or sell off all of the district properties to various unidentified parties as of right now there's the notice the meeting is improper in addition to the indication of State exception generally should also be aware that each board member who attends this meeting could have a legislative body meeting of that legislative body work in violation of any provision of this chapter and where the member intends to deprive the public of information to which the member has knows or has reason to know the public is entitled under this chapter is guilty of a misdemeanor to be really careful and accepting your counsel I've been receiving a lot of frustration and defensiveness from the diet and comments made to community members regarding this whole project please know your constituents other stakeholders are beyond frustrated and artists the high conversations in public regardless of how any of us feel about the substance or the merits of this development project planning there's no justification for hiding your conversation from us again I asked that you call off this closed session Andre notice the discussion for an open session at a later date thank you thank you Miss Carlson I do want to remind the public and that we have closed public comment and our last speaker will be Eric Rudin mr. basically at going everything she and a couple other people have said I don't understand how the board continues to just ignore existing law ignore directives from the attorney general and proceed against the wishes of all of the stakeholders the school board selected I citizens in Culver City exists to help students to provide a working atmosphere for teachers and staff and instead what the board is doing is ignoring all of these people the people who you're meant to serve and you're doing it behind closed doors therefore how are we supposed to trust anyone I just it's completely lost on me I don't I don't know if it ego or what it is but it's got to stop all we're asking you to do is to follow the law and to listen to the families and to listen to your union who are telling you all of you that this is not okay in addition law enforcement who is telling you that this is not okay that's all we're asking it's very basic and we would greatly appreciate it if you would abide by existing law and do right by the citizens of Culver City and your staff and your teacher thank you very much for your time thank you that includes public comment board president thank you so much we and emotional well-being for example could be experiencing or witnessing a short desk Nation or racial violence which can cause stress and racial trauma in addition it may be challenging to find providers from one's racial or ethnic group signal or negative ideas about mental health care may be preventing people from seeking service in 2020 suicide was the leading cause of death among asian-americans and Pacific Islanders aged 10 to 19 and it was the second-leading cause of death among those aged 2234 of this is clearly affecting our young people when people call text or chat with a 98 Health Lifeline they're connected to train to counselors who provide free and confidential emotional support in crisis counseling to people and suicidal crisis or emotional distress resources services are also available 24 hours a day 7 days a week across the United States there are easypro impromptu serve those who identify as lgbtq plus July 16th with a one-year anniversary of the administration's Biden Administration salon 98 we're in the past year 5 million contacts were served in the first year and this month they added new 24/7 text and chat support in Spanish in addition ezidore has joined us and and we'll add that to the men 4.1 I like to invite our guest speakers 44.1 which is review of faculty and staff survey discussion options to further improve the district special programs and operations thank you I am privileged to introduce a presenter tonight and bruises been part of our conversation with Board of Education to members of the Board of Education over the month of June meeting in person as well as online and including numerous number of input from staff and I'm going to do the floor to Bruce to present to the public and the boys tonight. Thank you very much or present, is all really a pleasure to be here at the beach in front of board members and thank you for the opportunity to share my screen so you can you see that thank you so I'm really happy so this is really a report on our Outreach findings that we have from our extensive Outreach efforts that we had just one second so what are you be covering now is a summary of the process that we had that we went through was a very extensive very engaged Outreach effort for the last 2 months and was really composed of two parts these an on-site listening sessions I'm going to go over all of that and then I want us to go over the results of that faculty and staff in and out after that presentation of those two topics and they'll be all right we're not sure that the public can see exactly what we can see it looks like they're saying your presenter View and if you could enable maybe just disabled Centerview unless you need them thank you that was a better thank you letting you know that so I'm guessing I'm going to go over and discussing the overview the Outreach process and then the on-site listening sessions and themselves a faculty and staff survey I think it'd be helpful to just go over you know the Outreach process and we've had today and I know there's a lot of texts on the slide but I really want to give you an opportunity to really appreciate where where we've been coming from it really the outside leadership that your board president and staff have been having and trying to advance this so we can look at it three different sections what happened is your winter 22 and spring 23 what's happening right now in Silver Spring and Summer and then what's the answer they didn't let in the fall and spring 2020 22-23 you know there was a lot of comments or made both formally informed we both board meetings and also in sky comes with a lot of feedback on the workforce housing and we're also giving directions to really look at Ty to consider different options for generating revenue for long-term for the district so I'm meeting with them you're our labor. your partner's there was several Outreach request over mate actually can meet with your union leadership and partners and also that have the faculty step listening sessions that are done at each site and also conduct the survey and so we went for was doing that and there was a closed session that Brookwood had with the board looking at the initial set of real estate holdings that that the district has and I was done in February 21st since then under the direction of your president I want to make it really clear that there's been no board actions you as a spring 2023 and really go forward with conducting the outreach program and so the Outreach has been conducted a labor partner meeting spot cycle stop listening sessions at all Sites and I know that faculty staff survey with a 36% response rate and then the board now is reviewing the input that was received the summary of that information and that I'm asking the superintendent to initiate I'll reach the city elected officials so you know in closed session we're going to be proposing to be presenting up there this update on their portfolio analysis and it's an opportunity for the board to I'm Dancin on we're having and then that's for the spring and summer and then look at the fall if they have an open session where there's a presentation of the results of the real estate portfolio analysis look at Revenue generation at different options for how that could be funded. We'll be up on Open Session and then we'll be continued Outreach where the findings of that material that presentation will then be Sheridan and detailed conversation labor partners are back again between us a community outreach and then the other Outreach to ccusd community board committees and the public and then after that Outreach has conducted at the end of War come back together to review what was learned from that Outreach effort and then as a result of that then we'll be discussion about what options if any of any of these proposals it to move forward and I will be conducted in an open session Celesta the process and he's very important to outline how much activity has been done we met in February with your Association of classified employees your Federation Culver City Federation of teachers and management association of Culver City Schools we met with all of them quite a bit in that meeting I'm going to talk about the content of that meeting and what we learned from that and then we had eight on site faculty and staff at listening sessions may all the way through June over 70 people participated in that we might see each of these different schools Culver High Culver Middle School. Elementary School El Rincon Elementary School Moreno Elementary Lynnwood Elementary Elementary School in district office staff and we also reviewed all of the email that was sent to the board members is / 544 pages and email and review all that material we had an online open faculty stop listening session and then we then also during this time we could talk to the faculty and staff survey weed / 295 responses I'm going to go into these each of the individual meetings to help summarize what we learn I think that when we get our meeting with labor and management representative was really the starting point it was very clear this is for the main points I mean we've heard this before public comment. There's no support for faculty and staff housing I think that points been made several times before that and there was several things that were presented and recommended a terms of what to do for further Outreach which we have which is to all the school sites I'll look at the facilities and then meet with teachers and staff and talk with him about the status of their facilities and hear their engines were going to go over that in detail and also need to engage neighbors to hear concerns regarding proposals in and this is presenting previously and thinking about Outreach the plan for outreach in the fall that was actually one of that kind of time would be when that would be Advanced but truly at the direction of the board depending on board. conduct that emoji needed there were several recommendations about process share the results with your labor Partners they want to see what's going on they like that continuing ongoing engagement you want to know the timeline for the work want to make sure the boards very clear on their priorities but I won't talk about board priorities and will be heard on that its length and the need for transparency and also just to really look at the facilities master plan a work is already done look at the cost of that and you know there was sentiment of being open to using real estate to generate revenues but with other things process think need to be addressed first so you know these listening sessions I think it's just important to take a minute to just understand what they they were I know that there was some comments about when the invitation went out for the listening sessions it was before a holiday weekend there was some concerns that there wasn't enough notice and also that it was at the time of the school year the school year when there was a lot of competing activities so we we recognized that we also wanted to make sure we had a chance to connect with everyone before the end of the school year so I wanted to just acknowledge that these three sessions unique and it was an opportunity for you no more present on the xola remember Guerreros actually you know meet with faculty and staff at something that hasn't happened recently where board members are actually gone into sites and met with them and exactly and what they have to do in a sentiments but the way we frame the sessions was too we weren't looking for more info on the faculty and staff topic before Edmund a lot of comment on that I'm really wanted to hear other interest and priorities and so was really broken down in the kind of three out of four categories one was the questions we were wanting to ask about interest level in generating local ongoing unconstrained revenue for application use for education ways to attract and retain faculty and staff and ways to improve faculty staff work-life balance so we're just discussion was a much broader discussion it wasn't focused on housing but actually focused on the news an interesting fact staff and started out with an open sharing a discussion of current issues and concerns they had so you know because our eight meetings this is a presentation we had to summarize our pie like that what the mean comments were they were many themes that we heard in these meetings or no one school I mean all of them had a lot of fun feelings about the topic so don't be presenting and we did kind of a summary to be able to get it have a higher level of you all that but if we're not going to go through each school and say what particular comments were free school Lewis say that the name main points because there's no interest in District on faculty and staff housing so there's no surprise there but I think it was also very powerful to have these meetings I think that you know the district I mean everybody's on the same team and away I mean all the different faculty staff Educators administrator sitting all of you are working together for a common goal but have a lot of differences of opinion how has been conducted in one of the main points of your hearing was just a bit issues related about confidence and Trust in the process many of these things stand around for communications until now have a perceived lack of as parents see the questions if there's some kind of hidden agenda and where he's at this is a check the box exercise in terms of Outreach and that there's not real listening I'm going on so we certainly heard that point the other thing they were brought up which I think we're born to highlight their just concerned about Facilities Management just that the current facilities in a poor state of repair is very common, and certainly see that in our visit and there's some issues just about how long it takes for and a lot of work orders kind of going to answer and they were sort of the bottom I went kind of at the district can't take care facilities that already has why would they want to take on new building project so I think that was an important Point those name the other topics that came up about fiscal management you know District spends money on projects and priorities that some felt were not beneficial and that had to do with the Robert Frost the auditorium new Earth Renovations athletic field so you know there was definitely was kind of concerns were expressed and also that there was concerned about the number of high-paid Administrators and that is there are you really qualified to handle a real estate deal so you don't the comments that were made before we actually even had a dialogue about what the board's not worth it lets you discover this project is about but I would say that in summary I think that what was communicated is it really a hierarchy of priorities in the forties to be aware what's faculty staff opinions are about what those priorities should be and I would say number one was really facilities and prices you really need help Nick needs safe secure facilities in good repair have competitive compensation and benefits for faculty staff in the men of these points are getting repeated addition with Parcels presentation really looking what to do support faculty staff for student educational success there's no longer to talk about that also then dress those things you really do need to look at how to stabilize and expand future revenues especially than on discretionary says there's an opportunity to be able to have you in our ways to be able to focus on a specific you need another dancing that slide so the way we conduct these meetings as we had three questions that we were asking and so you know I think it's important to recognize it that we were presenting us is trying to characterize the Dynamics of what happened in these conversations and so it's it's because it was kind of a a two-way discussion I mean some places people had came with a lot of biases and opinions and under 8 perspectives that were necessarily fully informed as to what was going on so we listened to what they had to say but then there was an engagement that happened around and I think these three questions were very helpful for being able to kind of bring a conversation that wasn't so exclusively focused on a real recycling is that housing but actually exploring was really what kind of needs and priorities of Faculty staff have about education about what they need for attraction retention and what's needed really for creating the kind of resources that are necessary to advance the success of the district so we started with the first question you know how important do you think it is for the district to explore opportunities to increase Revenue to support the district's educational Mission and when we got a lot of responses I went for like Wawa we should do that to you should not be focusing on that but what really happened with this is or just a lot of questions that faculty and staff had about you know what really are the options for generating Revenue you know they were the discussion will serve in general there are several they'll be presented in the in the in September and then it was his questions but in general we try to do a discussion frame up look you know the district selling property no is the district consolidating educational sites together no are we looking at you know the facilities master plan understanding what's being planned in the future yes we looking at underutilized sites to see if there's potential for can reconfiguring though so that they could be great opportunities for Revenue generation you know if yes so you know the discussion was a little bit on when you look at options to generate Revenue what you do and are part of our was will be looked at land use and we're looking at location so we're looking at me to office housing retail commercial and they were looking at what size and what locations could provide competitive opportunity for the district to consider so that's what we were looking at I wish we had that conversation with their shared that and then your people's response and they're also questions just about will how do you finance this you know what's going on with that when he said look there's several sources that depends on what the project is I mean I can be bombs that could be certificates of participation you do loans you could do back would eat all kinds of things you could do so you know part of that is what we're going to be discussing with you and be able to talk about that it was a larger take me to Culver City Unified School District community in September so that's helped frame up the approaches without being able to say exactly what we're doing at this time people understand what the contents what is doing so in other comments that came out about this really have to improve your communication you know these explanations are super helpful communication has not been very good to date and you know you really have to communicate this community-wide because I don't think people people that are not understanding what's going on and I think this lack of understanding is is pretty speculation speculations grading a lot of black of presto you certainly heard that and I think the main point people are making his real estate development should be done at the expense of funding education but being Services funding education so that that's kind of in general with that discussion you know the next question you had what do you think is needed to attract or retain faculty and staff members you know clearly was no higher compensation they get repetitive greater benefits a lot of comments about that a lot and then I think was really poor innocent people talk about this there is concerned about housing housing is a problem in Culver City it's expensive it's too expensive a lot of people can't afford to live here but people are we do not interested in faculty staff housing did better to increase their compensation so that was that money they have more choices for him or housing choices on their own and certainly there are some folks who felt like they didn't want to live in the same city that working others wanted I'm in the same city they're working there was a lot of different opinions about that but another thing that came up with you know we'll be more helpful would be down payment you know assistance for rental assistance the next thing that came up as what could be helpful for attracting a faculty staff is modernizing our facilities making them attractive campuses having to be safe and secure and there's quite a bit of discussion on that but the other thing is surfaced in these discussions I think after the initial points that were made was just about over all you know cuz I only staff morale there's some concerns about that they were but I would say some recommendations about what can be done to make to improve that and that's really listening to and finally responding to concerns increasing communication and visibility of Administrators at school sites in response to that teacher needs I think this you know part of the pandemic with you do remote everything, both of those things you don't have really reduced the amount of visibility of Administrators in school so I think that people where they need that in an increasing Staffing and support for all inclusionary program that every School site in a lot of really painful stories were shared around what's going on in classrooms I just think it's that it was very helpful to hear all that it is an area that really needs some additional support and then also just being able to prove hiring practices and employees you know all of this was a goal of maintaining the district's reputation as a good place to work so after that conversation we went to question 3 and it was if the district is in a financial position to help prove your quality of life and at work life balance what are your preferences and again through salaries and benefits no surprise they're reducing class sizes hiring more staff specially counselors instructional aide special aides custodians and others quite a bit of discussion around that and then also working on improving the way of payroll the hiring is done there was a lot of discussion around the amount of time it takes what happened to the beginning of the school year indeed it would creep a time for teachers so they can when they start the year they have time to actually prepare the other part was which I thought was really interesting with what to do about improving school and District culture awesome we have some delightful conversations about people needing to feel appreciated how to celebrate people's milestones and how to recognize teachers and especially when they're retiring and to do that I have district for Matt Bonelli. the done in the past and there was a lot of folks have been here for several years to really miss that and I think the general feeling was live like to be able to feel her part of a district Community cares about them and so I thought that was very helpful it was a lot of creative ideas about how to do so that's a summary of The Listening sessions I'm in I'm going to go on to the faculty and staff survey is an online survey was conducted at the same time as a listening session it was us for Falcons only was an English and Spanish there were 21 Questions 18 we could make a preference to three open-ended and get a 295 sauces so that's a very good response rate survey like this in this all six is statistically significant is reliable when you have that level of response you know I think that I'm going through this you know again the first question was you know I'm going to go through the questions and what the responses were to take a few minutes to do this but I think it's very helpful and to be completely transparent around what the content was and what their response was and how do you think it is for the district to explore opportunities to increase Revenue to support the district's educational mission you know I think it's important to note that twice as many people think that's important you know Route 66 or two-thirds of the people feel that that's important compared with 30 didn't think it was important for those who didn't think it was important based on what we learn from the listening session was about priorities the first question the second question is how important you think it is for the district to attract and retain faculty staff you know over 95% of the people feel like that's important questions about the importance of that question 3 was an open-ended question you know I think what's important realize that you know we had about 72 people who participated in the end of the meetings but this you know if it was almost 300 people so this is representing kind of a larger sample of people and interests that were necessarily able to participate in person but there's tremendous online what was we learn from the survey and 4 will be in person and he's open at a questions really helps convey that and it's important to realize that all these open ended questions are like over several hundred responses so we're trying to summarize all that again this is what you feel is needed for the district court a career change faculty staff obviously better pay teacher support real listening effective leadership and approve facilities I think that the teacher support it was interesting to me to way communication classroom behavioral support smaller class size Ministry of support a new teacher support I thought that was important I think I respect and Leadership and I think the message here was that they'd like it to be visible transparent been focused on building relationships to reggae communication and by doing that that can build trust and then also wanted to make sure that there's a demonstrative trustworthy financial management and effort to look at building team and cultivating a positive work environment and being accountable all those things really helpful data question for was what is your highest priorities that needs stable long-term funding you know this bar chart for seeing safeclean schools Silesia good repair over 90% of all the respondents said that and the retaining fact that was second and I think there was Healthcare benefits and then the remaining things were kind of a little bit more distant but important you know technology and Data Systems sterilized Structural Materials professional development diversity Equity inclusion program that was very helpful see that and then 5 the district is in financial position improve your quality of life and our work life that's what your preferences again this is really a lines of what we heard in the focus meetings every conversation with Healthcare benefits and you know the way these questions are structured this was select three so those two ever money selective that but I think the snow set a really interesting you know between down payment assistance doing loan forgiveness child care professional development housing allowance and wellness programs they're all kind of closely nesting around but would be another priority or preference question 6 was the district is in a financial position to improve quality of education and this is really about education what areas are in greatest need to fund you again this was safe clean facilities rolls good repair in the next group I think it's really important just to recognize and some of this has to do with what was going on with inclusionary program but counseling services for students for social emotional development interventions Grammy for Mass you know that pain and other programs for students at risk of not meeting standards you know support for inclusive academic social emotional behavioral development high quality standards aligned instructional materials at colleges for learning instructional coaching professional development and work based learning programs and then Academy smashing for student learning so he was very helpful to see what those priorities are a lot of those are not about facilities but they're about Siri does the medication all services are provided there's you know several that were demographic questions they were asking again we didn't know the results of the survey so we're kind of taking a broad look at this this is certified classified employees pers or certified classified the management Are you full of part-time employee you know 90% you know I think it's interesting this question I think this is how many years have you worked it at the district I think this is just telling around the history of you know how many how much faculty staff members. do love working here for how long we been here it's a really positive piece of information you know where 75% of the people have been here for five or more years having over almost 40% you know here for 15 years or more is really impressive and that's up you know that's a testament to how much people are committed to wanted to be part of this District on age you know again you can because of that you can see there's an older older Cole 7 facts you respond to the survey in the 80% or 35 or older but they still up 20% or they're going to 18234 range we are looked at you know annual household income another this house also just both know there's most many larger families but this is typically have to pick me up at 12 or more wage earners and doing this for this is to make an assessment of that as a whole but this is be linked with you know household size to be able to figure out how to make adjustments to see where people are with area median income but this is just helpful to kind of get a snapshot of that you know we looked it you know that the city and race says yes that's what that is. I think this is interesting to question 13 where you currently live you know most folks actually 57 people responded work in Culver City 54 in Los Angeles and it drops off quite a bit you know Inglewood Hawthorne Santa Monica kind of next you know I think about other locations that are much further away you know Whittier Sherman Oaks Huntington Beach you're the trend though overtime is that many districts are experiencing that fewer fewer people living in the community that they're serving and their living further further away so I'd imagined overtime you might see some adjustments in these figures you know the main mode of transportation to work you know the one in ten catch the almost one in 10 either walk bike or take public transit so I thought that was really interesting at all 7 percent of people are walking by Caspar high of 80% for driving alone you know this point about 1 your time for your commute to work you know about you know if you have about 30 about one-third of the folks or having more than our time to get to work by one way and then that's important point to knowing that the other board appointed 46% of lesson 15 minutes soap was really close if you live in really far away and so just a follow-up on that there was a question if your she needs more than 30 minutes what are three reasons why you don't live closer to the number one by far was higher housing prices the next three or kind of interesting already live near work you know that really responds to what we learned around the mode choice or further current neighborhood or prefer live their family or friends so those are some of the reasons why people are and I live in closer and then we asked about the kind of housing to go to living in now and I was just saying you know 45% people living in multi-family housing for the 51.2 or single family and then we look at how many people having different size house walls you know 80% sure and household size is it for less people and that owning and running in the sister of explanatory you know that 53% are owning and 44% are renting from a half and then if you are renting how bored you can sit around in your home and you know 88% if you want to feel like it's a it's a very important what's important so I think that's important point to make that's an aspiration we certainly heard that in the in the on-site meetings for younger teachers felt like you know homeownership seemed very far away and that was a goal for being able to create Financial stability and so there was a lot of interested in that is a goal now this last question was just your other thoughts you'd like to Board of Education consider again was like was over 20 Pages or several hundred comments on this moment in in a lot of ways are repeated made a point to domain already and I just know faculty of Housing and increase pay you to listen and got to focus on facilities and really work on on morale has never really summarized in the high level so thank you very much that's the presentation or what we learned in our sessions I hope that the board finds that helpful and your broader Community sees over sincere effort try to figure out what's plus really needed to be able to support poor decision-making the thank you different listening session I would like to invite a board member as a door and then also board member get a title to add to their experience in the listening sessions and then I'll also add and then we'll start there that way we can we can first put all our input into the Outreach that was done and then we'll go in with you in a bit. I won't you should keep it in case some ask question yeah thank you yeah I mean I appreciate the detail in the presentation you know one of the things that we heard a lot of places with increased transparency and someone of that the commitments was really to get this information back out to employees and also the public you don't care about what we heard and I think you know bright spots and warts on him. That's definitely what what this this revealed I think you know I went to all the sessions at all eight sides on a lot of conversations with bow and I think I was struck by how consistent the feedback was across each site and then when we saw the survey results how consistent it was with the survey results with a much larger pool which kind of both backs each other I've made some give a district a different time different sites across the district some of the meeting for more conversational some of them folks for a little bit more frustrated and then others as was mentioned the timing was not necessarily I deal we wanted to get as much input as we could before we went to Summer on and that men scheduling those meetings and a lot of cases of some pretty awkward times for folks so appreciate the folks who were able to attend that did I totally understand that people who are not and then again I appreciate the folks that were able to respond to the survey or jump onto the the zoom session that we did likewise you know I'm not going to repeat all the points that I think I just going to let that feelings about housing that you know housing is a challenge in the community but some of the ideas that were floating around originally don't seem to have a whole lot of support and I think there is one person on the surveys out of 200 thing that said they were interested that as an option that there are definitely some some there is definitely a desire to have an opening cloosiv process going forward whatever is discussing all things not just in this you know and and the importance of facilities people brought up facilities over and over and over again and it's certainly something we've heard from students and faculty and Community before which I think is is one thing that I guess it shouldn't surprise but this whole process I feel like the what we're hearing through this process was very similar to what we heard in the morale survey that the district did last year and over the last couple of years you know so it just reinforces a lot of that there was also an El Cap survey done for the in the spring and I think a lot of the same issues both around inclusiveness in the process but what what the priorities are our should be according to the post or participating in a bit that core instructional program I can counseling with something that came up and and just Mental Health Services and support with something that folks talked about a lot and then kind of intervention type programs because again coming out of covid and even before covid on average are students are really really successful but there are groups and pockets of students are still struggling and and continuing to focus on that I think by the end of most of the conversations that we had in person folks appreciated so the clarifications president of Zelda was was really able to be very consistent in the end of the meetings we could have anticipated the three questions you're going to have doubts on the let me just going to clarify those things right now and we do have to continue to to improve our communication on this a lot of things that I hear people being concerned about just not on the table it was mentioned you was telling of properties I'm not aware of anybody who's ever suggested that and so the better we can do to communicate that I think that'll lay a lot of folks fears I hope this beginning of that process but as we continued over the summer there is one more slide I don't know if you want to reference that at some point prison time is all about next steps and I'm going to get I think we're trying to lay out the next steps for the public and Ann are community and let people know this is what's coming bees are going to be the opportunities for more input these are going to be the things the board in the district are going to do to continue to solicit feedback on so definitely you know in the survey I would think that it was a quick response and that is anybody even going to read this absolutely we're going to read this absolutely were listening and trying to respond to that but I really really appreciate you for coming out and in doing all these prison on his Olaf making this a priority and everybody who participated whether it was in person or to the surveys or any of the other meeting some thank you thank you I think if you want to move out I'll do the next slide and then we'll go on question and of course I'm not going to be able to read that that let me open I like to have no nevermind okay so I will offer speak and say I first want to say thank you to our labor partners for participating in the Outreach also we had such great response rate from the survey because our labor Partners supported us in sin out the survey out to their members and I'm very grateful for that because I feel that you know when we do hard things the process and the timeline sometimes seems like taking too long or that it's not clear however I feel like this was the unintended consequence of this was it really clarified many different point which one of them was the uncertainty and unclear communication that is occurring in our community. Just like we hear from a community that they don't understand what's happening also the staff in teachers also did not understand what was happening and so every listening session started by me saying I apologize for the timing is started by saying we have taken no action that's all we will not be selling any property we will do a zoom and a survey to gather input that way and I'm committed to come back the the commute stopping teachers wanted to see the real estate analysis and so I stated I'm committed to return back in the fall with hopefully our business officer and crew 8 not create but deliver the analysis so that our staff and teacher hear first-hand from us this analysis I also talked about we are not consolidating any schools and then we talked about how important it was for our teachers and staff to know about the timeline on how things are moving forward and this is why this slide is very important so that individual understand where we are at in the process and also this is this is not a checklist and I agree that was something that came up that all you're doing Outreach of the well we're doing Outreach because it's something that our labor Partners this is something that best practice csba recommend an so in those two aspects we are doing checklist for them however we are taking this Outreach very very very important data point that we will continue to harness and understand because although we heard from almost 400 people there still an opportunity for us to think about all the new staff and teachers that weird I'm going to be able to solicit information from so this is a voice that we need to consider we also one of the common misconceptions was that the board is is not that our role is not to think about generating income and and we had to explain that actually are number one role as board is to set a direction and set priorities and that we see the great need that our staff and teachers have and that was discussed in the serving the listening session where you know as living costs continue to increase and our salary needs to continue to increase so that they can have a living way and and have quality of life which is one of the questions that we asked and so we do need to ensure that we as a board considers long-term opportunities so that we can really support enhance our staff and teachers living situation and quality of life and and I want to say that it was clear that when the listening session started there was a lot of uncomfortable energy and and unknown energy that was happening and as we clarify things or we answer questions at the teachers and staff had then by the end they would say I'm grateful that you came you're the first board member who has come and listen to us in the type of listening session so there were difficult beginning but a lot of gratitude and gratefulness by the end of each listening session and some sites more than others and and I and I appreciate that from all our site I appreciate all our administrators for sending the information organizing sites location for us to hold the listening session since it was labor intensive and I'm going to rest hopefully a little bit at the end of July so that I can get ready for the fall and bring the analysis back to the site and so I land there and just stay out of this presentation what's most important here is that we will continue to do that Outreach in the fall and we will initiate Outreach to other spaces such as ccusd community board committees public interest that that are concerned with this and also discuss how we can engage our students in this will all happen in the month of September October and then hopefully either in October or November once all that information is gathered input is received the the the board can have a discussion and potentially a decision if we will be moving forward with any of the options that we will hear about potentially in the in the closet so I like to now invite she willnae from our board and so I'll start with ezidore you have any questions no thank you I would president mr. grail for I'm conducting business thank you and then I believe is Kent my comments are very similar I just want to press the great deal of gratitude to the my colleagues for all the work that went into this and then to Brookwood for your consultation and guidance this is really informative and I feel very honored to be able to see all of this Rich data and so it's it's actually answered many questions for me already thank you thank you for the presentation and also thank you too Partners who helped and added their thoughts to this presentation I have no it was laid out so well that I have no questions because it's very self-explanatory and going to be more to come so thank you everyone okay I missed your friend thank you for the opportunity just want to say thank you for organizing all of the analysis of the data result I just want to make mention that prior to tonight's conversation with a public we did actually I remember having a meeting with two unit member presidents sitting down with two board members so that we could preliminary shares the results from the deep conversation I think that meeting lasted 90 minutes or so and so we did gain a lot of comics I mean a lot of conjecture on the standing behind why are certain staff members comments of a certain way and I'm hoping that in the future will continue to loop back now and then to run what we've learned from our staff without Union leadership so that we can understand better and then that was immensely helpful for us I just want to thank you we forgot we were going to datapoint in the presentation so mr. Tran is talking about a meeting that we had with our labor Partners both presidents of our labor unions to go through the data and see their prey effective and this was done before the presentation was created so that we can really assess what what were some of their points of views that we should include in the in the presentation and I I think it's been a labor-intensive process and a very root for process unintended consequences for me is that I I deeply understand how we can improve educational services at each site I took copious notes and at the same time how we can improve the quality of life and wages for our staff and their staff our staff staff and teacher morale because it it all makes sense right Mouse lost talks about it right if we take care of the foundation then people can self-actualize and I think that's what we heard very clear please take care of this Foundation that are really important to us so that we can self-actualizing on our students can Thrive and and I am very grateful again the process will start all over again September and we can go we can I don't think we have any other questions no but I'll make sure we add the one more meeting to the presentation so that it's more that includes every meeting that we had okay so let's see at this time is 5:20 and do we have our do we have are yes you can stop sharing okay so there was I was talking about Steve McLaughlin to see and Route I return you on his way. He's not here yet okay so he's not joining about when this meeting was posted I'm bored. and all all post things including revisions were posted to board dogs prior to 4 p.m. on Monday July 17th 2023 specifically we also ask executive board members received a notice on Monday July 17th at 11:57 a.m. so those are two things to respond to the question when this was posted okay at this point yes breakfast as we transition to nights Open Session into closed session I just want to mention that the analysis of what are we going to do and I've heard comments from the public today are we selling properties and did all of that analysis real estate of what we doing this is the first the first time this is the very first time with all five board members get paid hear what the studies would all of the option we have not had that opportunity Ashley to share anything in terms of the study the evaluation what are the options of the district's holding until tonight beginning at 6 p.m. and so I just want to make it clear to the public and for the record that is what's happening tonight I ate since we're recording I like I also like to take the MoMA to read the statement that I believe what was Miss at the beginning of the meeting because we were not recording so I'd like to take that point of privilege right now and read it again for the for the recording this is a statement from our legal advisor as set forth in the agenda tonight. Tonight's meeting is a special board meeting pursuant to government code section 54956 that includes two sessions the Open Session consists of a public Workshop in which the district will receive information gathered from the faculty and staff survey seeking input regarding potential options for the district to further improve its educational programs and operations after this Open Session the board will meet in closed session she went to government code section 54956 8th and Ward policy 9321 e with its designated property negotiator to discuss the district's properties and their potential future use I think that that statement is really important we're discussing potential use as indicated in the agenda the district has not yet identified any parties who may be interested in the property and therefore this discussion will be limited to discussing the terms and conditions that may be involved in future disposals a district properties if the board decides to pursue selling or leasing any property during a future meeting okay just a second okay thank you so much all right so I think at this time I would welcome a motion under I'm looking for the number 4.2 to reset the closed session can I get emotional Reese's to call session I'll move to recess because Ashen second all of those in favor say aye we have 5 eyes okay everybody thank you so much we will be taking
