uh let's start with the flux lip I say we already have our students ready to the Plex lip ready oh wait um put your right hand over your heart oh please stand ready ready begin I pledge allegiance to acknowledgement to my colleagues could we get a land acknowledgement here I can give it to turn your mic we acknowledge our presence on this traditional ancestral and unseated territory of the kishin tongva peoples who are the original care makers of this land thank you so much board member Carlson um we will now move to 3.4 public acts public announcements of actions taken in closed session um we did have an action taken in closed session closed session item 2.3 by unanimous vote the board discussed and took action in clothes section on our agenda item 2.3 to approve the consideration so the script isn't really that clear so approve um considerations presented great um now we'll move to public hearing item 4.1 I'm sorry oh is you made a mess 50 oh sorry um the public hearing of the Culver Unified School District initial Collective regarding proposal to the association of classified employees for the 2024 2025 school year is now open at 617 p.m. the initial collective bargaining proposal from the corporate Unified School District 2024 202 5 school year has been presented to the association of classified employees a copy of the initial proposal from the cusd to Aces attached comments during the public hearing should be limited to the CC USD 2024 2025 byng proposal members of the audience who wish to comment on the issues including the bargaining process or past bargaining proposal should wait until public recognition it is our goal to hear from all of you who wish to be heard we now invite members of the audience to address the board of education regarding the CCSC bargaining proposal to the association of classified employees for the 2024 2025 school year do we have any speaker cards or do we have any on Zoom great um the board of education has heard your comments and concerns and we thank you very much for your input the public hearing is now closed at 618 p.m. all right item 5.1 adoption of the agenda I'll move the agenda um no sorry is there any amendments I sorry I would like to move the agenda as presented except uh with the exception that we would adjourn in memory of former principal of Farragut and former and uh founding principal of um El Marino Steven Martinez uh former teacher Tony Fourier um Adult School student Alberto monasterio and uh cchs teacher Jon Roth I will accept that Amendment to the motion and I will second the right all those in favor say I I I cool now what we are all here for item 6.1 I will take the words recognition presentations item 6.1 the Culver City Middle School speech team Regent Legacy National Tournament thank you president ezidore members of the board it is our pleasure to congratulate the Culver City Middle School CCMS speech team and the students for a job well done Culver City Middle School team bring brought home trophies from the Region's Legacy National Tournament their coach will recognize their accomplishments on Sunday December 15th the CCMS speech team completed their first full tournament this was a national tournament with over 600 entries from 4 6 schools in 6 States across the country all of our 24 competitors truly shown in their professionalism Poise and performances with only 4 months of training and speech and debate special congratulations we'll given now I would like to introduce head coach Miss Gina Polinsky how can I help you okay so I'm Gina polysky I'm the head coach of the speech team um we actually have a team of 7 assistant coaches as well who are helping work with the team um after school 1 of them is here Mr Pearce is here who's been helping us with debate Mrs Fong was supposed to be here I don't know if she made oh this is fun is here I didn't see you okay great so but we have 2 people um here as well with our students um so speech involves um 3 3 major parts and we have our IE interpretive events which are like acting events we had some students compete in that we have our debate events and then we have our public speaking events and we did have awards at the recent tournament in all of those areas um so before we hand out these Awards I wanted to invite our Co captains of a team to come up and Lead y'all in the team cheer come on up Co captains this is a pollen response so you have have to participate play The Day speech team takes the day all right okay so I'm going to call out a rewards um starting with Leonardo Gonzalez he's the seventh grader and he won first place in humorous interpretation I'll let the superintendent give you this oh and take just to take this to you you're going to want that okay uh key is Shamari who won first place in dramatic interpretation thin policy um seventh grade he won 3 Awards he won first place in story telling he won second place for his original oratory and he won fourth place in Spar debate Nami Noriega who's in sixth grade who won second place for humorous interpretation Quinn Smith bustle and seventh grade who won second place for storytelling she's not here um Asher rossinow seventh grade who won third place in humorous interpretation Lou levenson sixth grade who won fifth place in declamation Christopher tamas 66 grade place for his original oratory on gas powered I'm sorry lawn leaf blowers I'm so sorry I couldn't think of the word Brad Wong's seventh grade who was a finalist in declamation Jerome baxton sixth grade who was a finalist in declamation and as Johnson in sixth grade who was a finalist in original oratory okay I also want to shout out a few more of our speech team members um to come up um who also participated and this tournament and did a great job fantastic competitors Lev Miller is here Vicente lazzari seventh grade he's a Kina okay and Rachel Wong sixth grade and then also just want to acknowledge quickly our team members who weren't able to be with us um tonight Sakina Arya Aiden Ellie Kenzo Libby Octavia Ricky Rio and Son v um who've also been a wonderful part of the team so thank you so much where everybody hey yeah awesome job thank you so proud of them good job actually oh I think that's somebody who oh I can take it for junior oh yeah I like while the amazing team is exiting board I just want you to I want to reinforce this team was brand new this year it was chat I mean the amazing work that happened over the summer to get it going thanks to coach Gina and uh really just amazing work to be uh performing at this level at Just 4 months so thank the front row is now available maybe we can close that great uh uh great now we'll move to items uh this Public public recognition set section item 7.1 uh public recognition is the time when members of the audience May address the board on matters listed and not listed on the okay listed and not listed um on the agenda item 7.2 members of the audience items not on the agenda this is a time when members of the audience May address the board on items not listed on the agenda those persons wishing to speak should complete a speaker card and submit it to the executive assistant or raise your hand so we'll start with the oh and we'll do yeah we'll do 3 minutes it's fine yo Marcos Hello I'm sorry about that uh hello I'm Leo Marcos I'm a junior at Culver City High School um I play trumpet and piano and I'm a member of the um marching band Jazz Ensemble jazz combo and various others and I'm also the co-president of Eva music so I'm here today just to kind of give a preview of our avpa upcoming events but before I do that I just want to share our love and support for the victims of the LA wildfires what happened in the past week has been just a tragedy of almost Untold proportions and I know that a lot of people in the ccusd community and family have been affected by that so I just want to share like my love personally and I mean everyone else in apa's love and just encourage people to donate or volunteer to help support our friends families neighbors and teachers in our community um so there are some upcoming events we'd like to invite everyone to attend in the next few weeks so uh this Friday is our avpa CTE film uh winter showcase so I have a lot of friends in film they've been working very hard I've had the privilege of seeing some of their films and they're great and I would really hope that some members of the board would consider going to that it's going to be great um and it'll start at 7 pm on Friday in the frost Auditorium on Friday January 24th the APA School of Visual Art is hosting a free animated film screening um and then on Saturday January 25th this is something I know a little more about it's the avpa music jazz festival so um it's an event where from 12 to 4 p.m. we as the high school collaborate with some of the those coolers and kind of teach them about jazz in the hopes that they get interested I uh went when I was in Middle School and it kind of made me love jazz and then at 7 p.m. we have a joint concert with them so we'll play a number with them and then a bunch of numbers on their own and I invite everyone on the board and in the audience to come and check it out it's going to be great um and then uh there's the annual District music concert which is on February 12th starting at 6:30 DPM and the frost it's the only time all year where elementary middle and high school students all come together to play music together and it's a really special opportunity I've sung in the choir in elementary school at that concert I've played in the band in middle school and in high school so yeah I would definitely recommend checking out all the upcoming avpa events thank you so much little things like that Angela Gray good evening um I um a member of the community community former parent and in of the district in a sense of All My Children went through the district and a current staff member of the district I um I I have a question for you all um I really appreciate the prompt response in the cleanliness in checking the filters and everything but um I was wondering um who if the custodians in our schools are getting Hazard pay to me it seems like cleaning all the Ash and the particles and things like that that I think they deserve that to do uh the work that they're going to do or is there an outside company that's coming in and cleaning um I personally appreciate the custodians in my in my school site and um they do a great job at labaya so I would like to see them to have Hazard pay in doing all of this um work because it is hazardous what they're cleaning thank those are the 2 we have for that item okay uh great item 7.3 CCSD employee groups I know we usually start with um our classified employees uh Miss Debbie HMI now are you turning in mutually turning in virtually that would be the time president Isador I'm on the call but I do want to let everybody know we can barely hear you so I don't know if you can speak more directly into your mics okay all right uh so good evening everyone I wanted to of course say that I'm offering my condolences and very sincerely want say that Ace is here to help our employees and our ccusd family who have suffered losses in the fires Ace will be making a donation to ccef I was gratified to see the email that went out this morning that Council PTA in partnership with ccef is going to start accepting donations for our victims of the wildfires and Ace will be making a 750 contribution to that fund I'd also like to piggyback a little bit on what Angela was talking about I'm sure that we can talk about this in Partnership but yes I think that we need to speak about the cleaning that needs to be done the winds are constantly carrying Ash and covering our schools with it we only have 1 daytime custodian at the elementary schools it's going to be impossible for that 1 do all of the work that they normally have to do in addition to wiping down all the surfaces in the classroom all the playground equipment surfaces sweeping up the Ash and it was brought to my attention that's sweeping is not the safest way to do this because it just puts particles back into the air so we're it's being recommended that it be power washed and I don't see how we can possibly expect our single custodians uh during the day at the elementary to do everything that's required of them without providing them with some help and support the other thing that I wanted to do was congratulate Tris um I know that he had an event that I was unable to attend on Saturday so Tristan I congratulate you on being the youngest School Board president that we've ever had I think you'll do a great job um I know you're also the first black male president that we've had of the school board but I I think that I want to remind you that you've got big shoes to because we've had 4 extremely strong intelligent black female presidents of the board and those are Sandra Davis Patricia sever to John McKean and summer McBride and I'd like to give a a round of applause to our past presidents our female black presidents have been Sterling examples of what good presidents should be so I'm hoping that you'll follow in their footsteps and I think that that's all I have for this evening so thank you very much thank you so much Miss hammy now we'll move to Mr long um good evening so um with things going on Los Angeles this week I just wanted to spend a brief amount of time discussing the governor's initial budget that he released this week on the initial budget the cost of living adjustment or Cola will be 2.4% this is actually higher than anticipated and much higher than the 1.07% from last year with an increased Cola and the passage of measure o we are calling on the board to give a commitment to making the first uh round of benefits that we agreed to in the fall permanent and ongoing we are also asking the district to budget the 2.4% cola to where it should go and that should be going as a cost of living adjustment to the staff and not to fill funding gaps we also ask that the board commit that the 2.4% cola go to where it belongs which is a cost of living adjustment to our staff and not to fill funding gaps in the district and if there are funding gaps then cuts to be made to the budget to take care of those funding gaps and it should not be balanced on the back of the employees and their cost of living adjustment that's coming in from the state ccft has also send it at mou to the district which I believe was presented to you this evening and we are hoping that we can work with the board and the district to quickly sign and approve that mou which is the effects of the fires on our staff the recent wildfires in Los an wildfires in Los Angeles have had a profound effect on so many of us around the city and the Metro region and covers to the unified several staff have been directly impacted by this event whether it was through the loss of a home or an un habitable home or area we have also had many other staff students and community members impacted With Friends family grandparents suffering losses or being impacted by evacuations or just the overall mental stress of the last week thank you to all those who volunteered donated set up GoFundMe pages for all those affected and a big thanks to the various sites who raised individual funds for staff and a thank you to Summer McBride and the council PTA for working with ccef to continue to raise funds our state and National unions CFT and aft have also set up disaster relief funds that anyone can donate to and the LA County Federation of Labor AFL CIO also has a wealth of resources all of these can be accessed through our website at www.covercity.net all donations to the CFT fund go direct directly to teachers affected as I previously mentioned there have been so many refreshing stories of those helping in Los Angeles even the Los Angeles Rams got a victory for the entire city last night sorry Vikings fence a big shout out to our First Responders the firefighters have been amazing as as law enforcement to help fight against those who would prey on those victim during such a tragedy we also have those who take this tragedy to try to create a political platform for themselves on both the national level and even on the local level and it's disgraceful as we have friends and we have members of ours suffering right now to see even the president-elect and his position to continue to criticize size state and local officials and to um use you know his platform to boast that he was right instead of actually consoling victims like President Clinton did after Oklahoma City or President Bush did after 911 its horrendous to hear us Congressman say they'll be strings attached to Federal funding like house Speaker Mike Johnson or suggest that Californians don't deserve it like US senator Tommy tuberville said after this tragedy there will be plenty of time to investigate point fingers fix things like we did after other National tragedies in this country's history now we expect these kind of things sometimes from the Trump and the tuberville and the Johnsons and the cruises but even at the local level are Anonymous social media page people falsely were spreading rumors and criticizing our own mayor Dan O'Brien during the fires and now people are trying to rile up housing policies in debates when we all really should be coming together as a community focusing on our staff friends family and Neighbors leave the politics out of tragedies thank you all right thank you so much we'll now move to item 7.4 superintendent's report thank you president azador um as Rey often does he has stolen A lot of my lines here but um I do want to just start off briefly to to um thank the community um for our closures of last week it was an incredibly complex decision that was taking place over several evenings I need to thank my cabinet for being there at 4 am on Thursday they're more up I'm getting my days mixed up now well yeah Thursday morning um really making some tough decisions and board members are you being available for consultation and review um so and just thanks to the community I know the Thursday morning closure was kind of uh if I may say so a little bit late right a school was starting in a couple of hours um but again wanting to make the decision in the best interest of our students when that hazardous air quality we came in when I woke up on Thursday um and needing to make a decision at that time um again thanks to the community for your flexibility thanks to the community for your understanding and um as we work through that crisis last week a very very much appreciative of that um and then of course for our students and our staff right who had to Pivot and change change to um greatly appreciate your patience with that and was so happy to see everybody back on Monday um I also as Ray mentioned and and Miss hammy mentioned just want to thank the community as well for the Outreach that we've had regarding our Culver City Unified employees that have been have been impacted by um tragic losses here ccef and the PTA Council um jumping right into The Fray quickly and without any questions asked about how we can raise um and support or raise raise funds and support um folks who are going through these challenges times um so just just a quick overall huge thank you to the community as we work through this crisis I felt Community Support um and that we all acted together in the best interests of our students safety and um I am not my next slide I just want to spend just it's 2020 about 5 now right this is the first board meeting of 2025 and believe it or not board members and public and everybody here this is about my first year anniversary I started on January 16th yeah a round of applause that's all right I started January 16th of last year and um if you may recall uh my 1 of the first things I had to deal with as your superintendent was those range remember those like torrential horrible rains that came in I think it the end of January so um just thinking about kind of the past school year and my past year as your superintendent a couple of items to highlight here the Reigns were crazy measure e measure o was crazy but awesome um getting those funding sources put brought into our our um our district and of course facility improvements the Behavioral Health building Grant about 500,000 dollars that we're working on to how we can build back to the state on our Behavioral Health Services we've increased options across the district Co Park High School there's an awesome administrator in the back here Allison Curry um yeah amazing amazing program that opened last year and thanks to previous boards for that work um and then also to ed services for getting that program started quickly um increasing the options around AP we've increased our AP um course offerings um which would be in effect next year and also moving from silver to gold in our AP status of more students taking AP and more students passing AP classes new CTE Pathways such as the um Early Childhood pathway and more to be in place for next year I have to highlight another apps another change over the year is amazing cabinet I made some changes in our in our administrators here in the district and I am so thankful for the team that is on board right now working through fiscal stabilization was something that we of course did last um last spring again right as I was your new superintendent and uh the budget situation is um delicate at best and that we are all working together to continue that work increased revenue and attendance across the district working with Rey and Debbie and the labor Partners in regards to our Partnerships um and I mentioned the fire emergency so throw that back in there um we became honorable District 2 new uh 3 new sports teams were open girls flag football the middle school girls flag football at the high school which is awesome um Esports Team all of our schools were awarded PBS recognition and here's some data for you about the last year chronic absenteeism decreased by 4% collagen career Readiness approved for black African-American students and students with disabilities suspension data also improved for those Sim same populations and uh to top it off I know all of our schools are successful but a huge uh um number that we look at of course is our grad rate right how many of our students are graduating Culver City High School increase The Graduate by 2.3% to up to 97 9% so it's a quick over yes Round of Applause i c b yes quick overview of kind of the past uh the past year just to celebrate and kick off that we finished this year and I know we opened um 20 if I with a bang with the fires and I absolutely um I uh that will not be the path for the rest of our year but um thanks to all the team who's been working very very hard in regards to all of these accomplishments um and I am deeply appreciative of our community and our work together for the benefit of students and so thank you very much what yeah the rate yeah the range would be perfect thank you Mr thank you so much I'm gonna wait for that to go up cool uh now we will move to item 7.5 the student Representatives report um first and foremost we would like to extend our deepest condolences for all those affected by the recent La wildfires uh we greatly thank our resilient First Responders who have diligently helped the effort to stop these fires uh CCMS counselors are always willing to help all Panthers who are dealing with this terrible tragedy and to help support our community and other leadership groups like ASB and cjsf are encouraging local support and donations like toilet cheese baby items toys Etc um you can donate for 1 hour before and after school for the next 2 weeks 78 7 to 8 a.m. and 2:30 to 30 p.m. and we are really sorry and we are looking forward to a better future and hoping that everyone is safe and for good news and fun news ASP is hosting our first only seventh grade dance this Friday sneaker ball and we're really excited about it and seventh graders are also excited about it thank you um so because just isn't today I'm going to deliver his comments so in his words hello everyone I am Justin pouncy the ASB vice president at the high school due to the tragic fires that occurred last week ASB has do donated and volunteer has donation and volunteer options posted on our Instagram if people are interested in donating or volunteering during these times of need on a more school related note we have our welcome back Club Fair happening on the 23rd during lunch so please come back come come and check out all of our amazing Club we have to offer ASB is also hosting our second UCLA blood drive on the 27th if you're interested in signing up please sign up with me or another ASP member and that's all I have to report so now my comment um hello board members superintendent Lucas and community members my name is Benicio Mora and I am the student School Board member at large at the high school I don't have much to report on as I had the flu for part of last week and school was canceled for Thursday and Friday um I myself had to evacuate my grandfather out of the Palisades um but more importantly um a lot of students have been impacted by the fires and if any students have concerns or ideas and how to support them um I will start my town hall meetings on Tuesdays in 2 weeks in room 12 and I welcome all students in all ideas um lastly uh as a representative students I'm looking forward to collaborating with the newly elected Ward um over student centered issues as I know there's a lot to cover but still I'm hopeful for progress thank you I love Clover Park is continuing to make strides towards our course completions our third quarter will be on Friday January 17th and we are focused on the finishing second half of the year strong our seniors continue to complete college applications and plan their next steps for graduation and Beyond covered product will be joining our community partner sjli to host a only fast when night during the month of February to provide support will complete in the fasta sorry application I would like to um again thank our board president for the honor of participating in his soaring and ceremony enjoyed serving as the emcee for this occasion and to stand alongside so many esteemed elected officials and community members and celebrating our president and pledging their support to him and our board and school Community um last Clover Park wishes to extend our heartfelt acknowledgment to the families affected by the ongoing wildfires we stand in solidarity with you during these times of profound loss and hardship please know that our thoughts are with you and we uplift we have left you in your loved ones with wishes or strength and hope as you navigate the challenging days oh yeah that would be the time to get preferential votes I don't know if we have any proposal buts now okay great um now we'll move to item 7.6 members of the audience items on the agenda this is a time when members of the audience May address the board on matters listed on the agenda that was those persons wishing to speak should complete a speaker card or raise your Zoom hand um and submit to the superintendent executive assistant do we have a speaker no we have no speaker it's great uh do seeing now no hand raises um great I'm just gonna take that as we have no comments and items on the agenda and move on now we'll move to item 717 members of the board um I just want to make sure that colleagues know that the order will be going in would be member Carlson member lockman member Guerrero vice president lauretta Within Myself helpful thank you um I just have a few things that I just wanted to talk about um of course first I'm very saddened by the fires and the devastation that's happened just north of us and the Palisades as well as out in Altadena Pasadena area um it's really you know I've been living in Los Angeles now for a little over 25 years and I've never seen anything like this and it's just you know heartbreaking um I really I do appreciate the way the communities come together I mean I think all of us have been touched in some way whether we have friends or colleagues or family members that have had to evacuate or but otherwise affected um I know we have 3 teachers in the district also um and definitely appreciate the outpouring of support for those teachers as well as others in the community the fund that was set up by the Culver City Education Foundation the council PTA that others have mentioned um it's wonderful they got that stood up uh very quick um also I just wanted to mention also my firm is uh looking into providing support uh for displaced students um and all I'm happy to continue that conversation as I learn more from my colleagues as well um I also just want to thank the District administration and and site Administration as well for their response to this obviously unprecedented times we're all trying to build the plane as we're flying it basically and you know I think everybody was making the best possible well-considered decisions as they were making them um and you know they may have been a a little bit of bumpy communication I know that myself and other board members certain heard about it from members of the community were certain happy to take all of that input you know and and help direct you to the right folks um you know and also for consideration and you know changing any practices that we might have going forward as well um the other thing that I want to mention was on Sunday I did my first listing session uh so I just I'm planning on doing this on a monthly basis um next 1 I think will be February 8th on a Saturday 9:30 to 11:30 at The Spot Coffee shop at this 1 uh some folks that I never met before came out to talk about safety issues about the cell phone policy um and very timely conversation about air filters and classrooms um happy to take all that input and see what we can do to try to improve things in the district and then just the last thing I wanted to mention we had the speech and debate students here earlier and that just absolutely warmed my heart um I think it's so wonderful that we have a middle school speech and debate team I was uh 1 of the speech in debate kids growing up I did great speeches I did orator Lincoln Douglas debate and discussion uh those are categories back in the 1990s when I was on the team um and I just I also think too that this is just a really great example of a parent having an idea and making it happen and you know I think this is 1 of the things that makes this community absolutely wonderful is we have folks who care so much and have you know skills and um you know want to donate those skills essentially the district for the benefit of all of our kids and so um would love to see that team continued um well into the future that's it for me thank you uh it was great to see the uh speech and debate team actually in middle school I also did that back in the 1980s um uh so um and uh back then we had a demonstration category so um I was uh showing people how to make uh healthy peanut butter snacks not nearly as moving or as meaningful as declamation but you know we all get our start somewhere right uh so in all seriousness though um you know as we did hear from lots of folks asking about what was happening with the schools I do want to uh thank the superintendent and the entire staff for trying to uh move communication wise quickly and letting people know what's happening uh working with all of us as well um yeah as you know this was all kind of on the Fly uh and you know we've never seen anything like this uh anywhere and so having people come together the way they did is uh very meaningful I won't repeat much more of that other than of course to thank um those uh not only the PTA also CFT um uh which is putting together a fund I also noted was at least 1 family that was affected as well um and I also uh saw out there that um we have open doors to uh have opportunities for students uh who may be displaced as well and who need a place uh as well uh uh finally um before uh we are looking to start doing some Outreach as well I just really want to thank everyone for uh opening the door for us new members getting us up to speed um on what's been going on and asking for our input and evolving us um very quickly and having things for us to do and questions to ask us um you know we we're here to represent all of you and we appreciate hearing your thoughts and your suggestions um and you know heard from those on my Instagram page on my Facebook page uh and appreciated that none of them were at 2 in the morning so um uh but we want to hear from you continue to hear from you we're here um to relay your concerns as much as possible um uh and just you know finally just you know with respect to the fires you know all of us know people who have been affected 1 way or another I I do know that there's a a branch of my family that came out of here out from here from Baltimore in the 1920s and uh decided to develop part of the Palisades um uh you know saved up their money and got involved did that and all of lachman lane or most of it is gone um While most of that families found out no longer living in the area this is a legacy for that part of the family and there's a lot of histories that have been wiped out and lost as a result whether it's Will Rogers house which I understand was affected uh and burned um or the individual stories and people who lost their homes and are going to have to be starting over and uh just uh want to it just shows that at least all of us are a community and we're all in this together and wanting to support those people uh and and uh while in Culver City the biggest the fact we have is you know we've had some smoke and uh uh and of course the individuals who are affected we all realize that Los Angeles is 1 big Community uh and uh all the neighborhoods are coming and all the cities are coming together to support um uh so I I will mention that and uh again thank you for sharing what's been going on with the dust as long as the smoke continues to come we're going to continue to see additional soot coming in um but you know the staff is is trying to respond as quickly as possible um and play catch-up and you know we want to make sure they're safe as well so thank you for sharing concerns about their safety we appreciate that uh and I'm going to close so 1 last thing congratulations to our chair uh and a wonderful event bringing us all together uh throughout the community and uh we all look forward working together because we all know we've got some challenges this year good evening everyone um I'd like to just add my my thoughts my sympathies to everybody affected by the fires um throughout the Los Angeles community but particularly to our employees our our teachers we had a number of teachers we had an administrator who have been impacted by this and just really glad that everybody's okay um but that's you know and and actually uh board member lachman alluded to it we may see some families that are displaced coming into Culver City um coming into our schools so even after the immediate uh danger of This Disaster is over we're going to have some folks dealing with the lasting impact of that and so let's remember that and and continue to be good good hosts um and and welcome those to the open arms and and do our Best Buy folks who are temporarily going to be part of our community as a result of this um I also want to thank uh Sprint tenant and all the assistant superintendents and principals and everybody um who was up all night and keeping constant uh check on things just to help make decisions um and keep us informed and keep the community informed about the state of the schools and what we were doing last week uh really want to share my appreciation for the food services staff um it was absolutely the right thing to do to close school on Thursday and Friday uh because of the air quality but um there's a lot of students and families who depend on our schools for services um and I you know I was 1 of those kids and when there was a 3-day weekend or something that meant an extra day without leading um and so providing those meals on Thursday and Friday was was essential and I really thank the people who came in to do that work um I ran into uh Miss Rajiv over there uh checking on things and making that work um also on Friday the backpacks for kids programs because again that that need doesn't go away just because there's a disaster going on so thank you to everyone who made that happen um and the custodians who are here over the weekend and and Mott staff who are here over the weekend and early Monday morning all day Monday and late last night and probably a lot more late nights coming up um just trying to keep the the campuses clean um and the best place possible for the students so thank you to all of all of those folks um I also just want to end I mean I said this this last I don't remember exactly which meeting but last year when uh the board approved the agreement with ccft and Nas um I I want to go on record again though as committing to finding a way to make this year's 1 year benefit uh agreement a permanent part of uh what we offer our employees what our employees deserve um it's it's great that we found a way to do it this year um but for that to evaporate next year and people to actually take a step back backwards on benefits um is is just can't be um and so we've got to make a priority we've got a lot of priorities but you know this is 1 that we've got to put at the top of the list making sure that our employees have at least that uh amount of health benefits uh for the themselves and their families so again I just want to go on record as committing to to finding a way to make that happen so thank you very much hello good evening um I want to thank my colleague thanks for saying what uh what is in my heart already about the the wildfires and um I think what I will add to that really is just I am so I feel very blessed to be in this community and um to be around folks that have such compassion and are moved to action to help 1 another out um the um our community our Culver City Community is so engaged in terms of um monetary donations volunteering and lend even just um Hearts lending of strength to 1 another and listening to 1 another um I I during this time when um my colleague said uh uh you know we're this is not this is unprecedented and we are navigating through um through a scenario which we did not um uh previously anticipate um I want to also thank the community especially the parents um and staff for their Grace as we are anticipating evolving procedures around you know health and wellness for our students and are preparing to welcome those that uh our students that may have been displaced uh by these tragedies and uh and it's ongoing so we won't be able to really move on and heal for a little bit and until uh we see the full impact and there will be economic impacts later on to us including perhaps Governor's budget later on I know that Mr long talked about that earlier and 1 of the things that is that that I think about is a couple years ago when the uh tax filings were delayed across um a large swath of the state because of wildfires and that expected what it um the anticipated budget was um in in the end for uh the governor's budget and I I hope that they will not be less impacts this coming time around um although um tax filings will be delayed so in these are all things that um will impact our our fiscal future and also the future of like there are folks that are right now and um I had this conversation with staff earlier about well not today but um uh their Economic and Development impacts um where there are folks that you know might have uh had jobs in the areas that are affected and not have lived there but now are looking at loss income they are looking at you know uh replacing that that income whether it's permanently or temporarily and I want Culver City and Culver City Unified to be 1 of those places where they consider we do have jobs available and um I I want to make sure that our community is letting folks know that we're a place where uh people can go to um to replace that income or find a new career um so I I I just have so much gratitude um I do want to also uh uh recognize that our board president is uh the first black and Asian man to hold this position and I am so um proud that our um Community has the role model in you to to lead and represent um and that on also a good transition into our Asian-American native Hawaiian Pacific Islander owned business Night Market coming up on Friday January 31st from 5 to 8 it is bigger this year we've got more vendor partners and Resource Partners that are uh that are with us this year as well as a brand new shade structure which we won't need at night but it's Ambience where we can enjoy the um the lunch paddio stage um uh underneath this new structure and uh we we have a DJ this year and a great entertainment lineup and I um you can go see the vendor lineup as it is right now we're we're still adding um at CC Night Market my canva site and I look forward to uh seeing you all there and celebrating the resilience and contributions and and the career Pathways that our um Asian-American Community holds with um holds uh here in Culver City so thank you very much thank you so much colleagues and I I really do think that you all captured definitely how I feel but I think how this moment in time feels um with regards to the fact that I think all of our lives and and and hearts are very heavy right now um and so I want to appreciate you all for for bringing that up but I want to Echo something that president Loretto talked about but it was about just so much gratitude for the community you know it's it's it's really easy when not personally affected to just sit aside and and to do nothing but um the outpouring of of innovation and and report that I've seen coming from the community um for people within or or closely outside our community has been has been profound I know um each of the colleagues I've seen you all share various resources is various um GoFundMe and shown support to a lot of um teachers and families who have been affected by these fires and so I want to appreciate each and every 1 of you guys um for doing that work uh as well as superintendent and and his cabinet for um the leadership that they've shown over the last um week or so it it takes courage to go back on a publicly stated claim um but it is important to do so when it's the right thing to do and I know we were in close communication about that decision and it was at a very we early morning when the um air quality levels were showing it was unsafe for students to go to class and you made that Call to um ultimately close schools because it was the right thing to do and so I want to appreciate you all for doing that work as well um I know we talked about the lunch service team was was really really really important for us to continue to provide those um really necessary and and and vital safety nets that schools provide each and every day um that must continue when our communities are and struggle and I just want to thank um the community I know I've seen even um some students that Co City High School will talk about a covert team closet and to be collecting um materials for students and teens who have lost their homes and who need clothes um and Essentials and so I just uh I'm so profoundly grateful to be a part of a community that shows up when um our neighbors need help and I want to thank you all and thank the community for that work uh I know we're supposed to go to recess colleagues I want to ask if we can potentially dip recess and go straight into a straight into the agenda I don't know are we allowed to I think so do we need to take the recess I'm sorry we can do 5 okay so we'll start taking a 5 minute recess it is now 7:00 p.m. we'll move that we come back at 7:21 it's all gonna be best friends all right we are now back from Recess at 7:25 p.m. uh and we'll now move to item 9 information items um item 9.2 C back media report of recommendations we'll hear from Miss Mar chairperson good evening board and cabinet um I just want to Echo everyone else's sentiments from this evening and say that our hearts are with our ccusd family and community and everyone that's been affected and impacted by the wildfires it's truly unprecedented and it's still ongoing so um we just wanted to make sure that everyone is safe um I do want to say that there is a bit of a misnomer with the um the wording of the agenda item because when we had our back meeting on Wednesday we had an abbreviated meeting and we weren't able to discuss the interim budget report which was we had planned to do um so we will be making our uh midyear recommendations at a later date excuse me so what I would like to discuss right now is the um budget or sorry the gift policy for the district um because it there were questions raised about that um in our capacity as the community budget advisory committee I represent our committee in making recommendations to the school board as they pertain to our District's budget tonight I am here to speak on the subject of the district's current gift acceptance policy for major capital projects and monetary contributions prompted by the recent weight room and Press Box projects at Culver City High School we know that the spirit with which monetary gifts are both given and accepted are to make improvements for our students which should be the goal for our district however we recently learned that the 2 projects that had been repeatedly presented to the community as gifts during multiple school board meetings over the past couple of years in fact cost the district money for which there had been no previous allocation in the budget the recently completed weight room cost the district 1.1 million more than half the 2.1 million cost of the project the recently approved Press Box is currently estimated to cost 1.3 million for which the district will be responsible for 800,000 again more than half the cost of the project at a time when we have been deficit spending and there are probably more budget cuts in the future it does not seem prudent to be spending money for capital projects that were unexpected but not critical for this reason we are recommending that the board consider not proceeding with the Press Box project at this time if we are expected to make up the difference between the anticipated incremental construction costs and the 50000 we are receiving from the trustees of the gift when concerns about these projects were initially raised by members of the community at school board meetings the public was repeatedly told that these projects would be paid for by funds that were bequeathed to the District specifically to pay for these projects because these projects did not end up entirely funded by the bement the funding is now viewed by the public as a partial donation for the projects rather than a gift as was represented to the public see back recommends that the board adopt guidelines for future acceptance of gifts including but not limited to the following the gift should pay for 100% of a new project or be a contribution towards a previously budgeted project the final project should not unexpectedly across the district more than the benefit the gift provides nor should it cost the district significant new or additional expenditures for upkeep unless the gift is an endowment the gift should be presented to the public with the degree of transparency especially if the terms of the gift change from unconditional to conditional including previously unseated limits to the amount of the gift these recommendations are made in the context of capital projects not pertaining to smaller gifts such as classroom materials CBC would like to think gift donors who have benefiting students in mind as well as the district for accepting gifts with this goal however we would like to remind the board the gifts do not have to be accepted particularly if they come with financial strings attached that could negative Li impact the district's budget which ultimately does not benefit our students I don't know if anyone has any questions at this time yeah yeah thank you so much for that for that report and that will now move to questions from the colleagues in the same order as the if you have them um yeah I mean just listening to that presentation uh do do we know when the project was sort of scoped out and like whether and the reason why we went so far over budget I don't know if that's something that you know if it's not maybe somebody um from the cabinet knows that uh because it does seem to be a pretty substantial overage uh that was in my view at least somewhat expected that would be a question for Miss rajib so I think yes um there was a delay because of the rains we had rains and then I think it got delayed few months to almost more than 6 months delay that caused an increase in inflation was there and then there was some change orders because the scope changed and they found something that we had to repair so those were the reasons why the cost changed you know drastically okay thank you Mr luqman um thank you I mean I think we're all those numbers are uh you know just surprising in the sense of the challenges that we're dealing with as a district right now um I know you mentioned it was a shorter meeting but that they also consider that there and I don't know if they answer that at the time whether or not there could be gifts in which at least we do understand what our mint is expected of us but where they are deliberately covering a partial payment of part of a larger project where you could have 3 or 4 different donors or just 1 that's covering to help lower our costs on something that we already planned because I I I I like the uh recommendations um but that's something that does happen you know with some frequency is that we have a project or a program or something and we find a donor who can help lower our costs not in this case where saying you're building this you know you're you're building this and I'm I'm going to cover x amount you know this something a little bit more where it's intentional I we just specifically covered this project because it had come to our attention um I think the overall concern was that these projects were not on the horizon at all except for the fact that we got the equipment yes and those are some very good questions that needed to be asked so thank you thank you for the report um I I think those are a good starting place for the recommendations I mean it's something that we should absolutely consider um for staff and and the superintendent the end a lot has changed since the the the generous Goodyear Grant was was given and accepted um but I would like kind of a just before we go any further on on the Press Box project just some more information on it kind of the the the pros and cons of going forward versus stopping um what the cost would be of stopping with the cost would be of continuing and I know that's not something that a single board member can ask for so I don't know if that's something through um the president you know we do the whole nodding heads kind of thing and see if there's a consensus to ask staff to dedicate some time to to put that kind of information together superintendent is that the the right procedure yeah I mean we can certainly take a look at um that could be an upcoming board agenda item that to discuss and review but I would need guidance from from the board overall in regards to instead yeah sorry I'm getting a request to unmute yeah is that something I can like ask if there's a majority on or is that something you have to do or I know I think there's I think there's I mean I think I think we're just gonna work yeah okay okay thank you and so maybe in the intro we can get something out in the fighter report before we appreciate it yeah these are some things that we can get in information on without a without uh bringing it up for Action yet um we can definitely do the research and I just want to provide some backstory to this for our for our newer colleagues and for some of the folks that are uh working with us now is that um the estate the Goodyear estate came to a board prior to any of us on here to say um this is these are particular projects that I'd like to work with um the district on and uh these are the only projects that we would fund and so um considering a a gift policy is certain something that we can consider I think that also when we when uh when the previous board decided to move forward um not not not our previous board but the board even before any of the 5 of us decided to move forward on um on the weight room it was also thinking that 100% of it or more of it was going to be coming from this gift but then once they entered into it it became clear that um they wanted to do something over an a uh they wanted to give the funds over a number of years and then um there had to be more of a partnership and perhaps I don't want to use the word negotiation but the the partnership with the trustees in terms of how you you can't the how they would be funding it if it needed to go up in a certain amount of time um because every dollar that they would have given the district to do anything would have been 25 cents in the future as well um we also have to think about it in terms of um looking at our and and we we had a colleague that what sat here before that was very against um the the the weight room um we also have to look at it in terms of uh the uh for in we have not measure e but also fund 40 and other funds that we would have to say hey would we actually be looking to modernize our Press Box in the coming years um anyway and the rest of our um districts surrounding districts do have an actual Press Box and the expectations around um you know what that modernization looks like and how that fits with our priorities right now um so uh so it's definitely something that I'd like to look into and maybe that's something that really the the gift policy that you're requesting is something that we look into as we consider new policies or revamps of this policy because we do have um our our new gamut uh gamut policy plus should be up within this month or in the next week or so and that there are updates from December that we need to review so we can put a policy or uh review the need or how which which policy number that would uh effect uh moving forward and we can agenda is that in a uh or if needed after we do that research in the future so I I would I would like us to and and I think that it sounds like everybody on this board is is in agreement to to look into uh which policy that this would fit under thank you thank you so much colleagues and Missy for uh presenting to us today I don't have anything else to add thank you it will now move to item 9.3 um the study of retiree health benefits yes thank you um Mr zero so this this item agenda item 9.3 it could require school districts to complete annually the actual valuation of the post retirement benefits for active and retired employees and share the same the report with the board at a public meeting and that's what we are doing now this is for last year 2324 nihart is our actual consultant who completed the report that's attached to the agenda item ccst offers benefits to employees after the retirement and will continue after the employees reach 65 years of age so attached gaspee 75 actual report shows the district OES approximately 30 million in future retiree Healthcare benefits if we were to pay today um for all the employees whoever we have right now if they retire and this would be the liability in today's value that's what this report is about so it's um we follow the pay as you go basis we don't set aside money for this future liabilities the district has contributed 97 27930 for last year 2324 towards this um um ope benefits that we are offering to our employees 1.4 million increase is compare there is an increase from 2223 to 2324 because it's a complex formula and it's an estimated number based on your health Healthcare Trends how much are we paying the increase from last year to this year and then also based on the retirement rate and then also um or retirement plan change we increase contribution toward retirees from dollars to $0 those are the reasons why our um contribution will be in the liabilities increasing increase from last year to this year and then this is also reflected in our audit report our liabilities mentioned in the audit report and um this is just sharing the report um for the Ed code requirement do you have any questions all right colleagues any questions let me know no thank you so much for your presentation uh we will now move to item 9 point 9.4 measure K partial tax report so government code require that my item thank you Mr episode um the government code requires District to summarize the fiscal year 2324 the special tax levies exemptions and expenditures and other related data information that is it's a requirement to provide that report and um so per the attached report the total revenue that we've received for last year partial care revenue is 2 2 million formed and 10,506 and the total expenditure is 2,449,573 and there is also a tax role listing the for the fiscal year 2024 parts of tax for all assessors the partial Supply in the boundaries of Culver cities attached in that report thank you so much questions colleagues great thank you so much for your presentation uh we'll now move to item 9.6 thank you Mr sorry 9.5 yeah thank you Mr this is just the public posting of the election resolves that we received from the LA County Office of registrar um acknowledging and um fully solidifying our new our new board members um and the election can we object to this these questions now great now we'll move to item 9.6 thank you president azador this is a revised board administrative regulation 5117 on interdistrict attendance this is a first read of proposed changes to the administrative 5117 on interdistrict attendant attendance that represents a cleanup of duplicative language allowance of earlier application opportunities for families and clarification of permit revocation due to Chronic attendance issues and and it is also noted if um attendance I'm sorry address and such are not verified this too would qualify for revoke revocation action on the changes will take place at the January 28th 2025 meeting and Dr and delicado the director of school Family Support Services is here um on this information item in in the case you might have any questions great colleagues questions Mr luqman I I do just because we've always heard a lot of information about there about what is and is not done around the permits um so I think it's just important if you could just address there's some rumors that we don't enforce or seek investigation those who falsify information what policy deals with those submitting of information and how does the district respond uh when those happen because I know there's some people who don't understand what that process is and that we do in fact investigate if there's you know verifiable information so part of the permit process the application includes submitting latest report card um which most report cards have the attendance on it um they have to sign off on the meeting of a standards for behavior um attendance and academics and it clearly states on there that if um any of the information is falsified the student will be withdrawn from ccusd if in fact the permit was granted and then we find out it's falsified and there are processes that if if if anyone believes there are fraud and no 1's saying there is but if there is there are processes that people can get information can be investigated when we received the cume from the former District because that's part of the enrollment process then we're able to verify all of that right at that time okay thank you you got okay and then I had a question also and I had sent this 1 in and I Dr and delicado I don't know if you answered it or Dr Baxter I had noticed that in the changes 1 of the things that was struck out was uh getting permission from your home District to come in and I had asked is that no longer required and I thought the answer was very interesting and worth kind of repeating if if you don't mind just kind of succinctly what what the situation is with that sure um the law remains and it's the same as it has that you must be have an interdistrict uh attendance permit release from your District of residence in order to enroll we um in CCSD of traditionally required it to even apply so just it really is more about the process than the change of anything so at this point the change would allow for people to go ahead and apply sooner um LA and Englewood are 2 boarding districts and they have different Windows um and so this would just allow everyone to be able to apply at the same time once we will still not be able to Grant it until they actually have that release from their District but for parents it can feel good to get the process started um and to feel like you know you're moving forward with your desire therefore you want your kids to attend school great thank you very much for that explanation hi thank you um I I had a similar question which was more so that like you know this this does not uh uh when we remove that requirement for them to have the release from their home school is that they allow us it allows them to apply first and perhaps also opens it up to them getting more information as a as they apply and this is particularly um uh uh important now because you're about to have um kindergarten and TK informational meetings at the end of the month is it the 21st um next Tuesday yes yes it's the 21st so everybody put that on your calendar if you have a student that's coming in for TK or or kindergarten that there is an informational session that you can uh sign up to 10 and um and so I think you for this and also I just wanted to reiterate this isn't really so much for you but like it's more so I would like to reiterate we're going to have this gamete policy plus soon in where where uh and when we globally adopted all of our um policies this was not 1 of the ones that went back to the sample policy because we had touched this more recently in January on January 10th 2023 so the more recent ones stayed and which and it also triggered you to review this policy so that the board can set better direction for Our intention for um applications for permits right yeah yeah yeah sorry yes um yes 1 of the reason that 1 of the reasons we're retouching is we're just we're trying to make it more accessible for families that want to apply um on from our office will see families wait and wait and wait to get the release and then once they start applying then it's like they also need to gather all the documents so if they can start applying sooner we can let them know what we're missing they can gather those while they're waiting for their release and so I think it will help I just think it'll help families in the end and that's what our Department's all about thank you so much I'm sorry I just wanted to um ask a question off of Mr lachman question before this this specifically that was the intra District policy like a attendance policy permit policy I think 1 of the things that he was mentioning May relate specifically to Residents and residents uh verification which would be something different than this right correct and I I didn't want to make that assumption okay um I wondered but I didn't want to assume and so um a lot of times when we historically in Culver City in my 20s some years have heard about falsifying information it's often related more to enrollment for residents um and we do have processes in place that also can check and verify that information and if we find out it's falsify there's also disenrollment processes for that but it's not covered in this policy because these are individuals that are letting us know they don't live here but they would love to attend our schools and so that's what this policy is about and appreciate that if I met that's why I asked what the policies were because I think people will sometimes conflate some of these issues and don't always understand the differences and also how this all works and so I figure it's a chance to shed a light some light on that as well but thank you for answering the questions yes nothing further thank you so much all right thank you um item 9.7 thank you this is a presentation and information item from the director of teaching and learning Dr Dion Garner who will share information on our professional Learning Community meetings which are Wednesdays after school and that's what the teachers get together and do during these times and we're setting up to slideshow now and this will talk specifically about the formative assessments that help uh enable us to plan for instruction good evening president azador and board members I'm so sorry I'm going to interrupt you because it is very difficult for our audience to see the actual screen and so it can somebody share their actual screen on Zoom sure I can do that is that I don't want to I just didn't want to jump if just give me 1 moment to do that well I can still read just give me some light so I can still read my presentation yeah that's good oh thank you all right take 2 good evening president azador and board members I would like to go ahead and give you a presentation on the work we've been doing with iabs um with our teachers and staff thank you excellent it's okay fine and I'll just nod at you Vanessa when I'm ready ready okay so um the key components of the lcff are the lcff funding that provides the resources the requirement to increase or improve services to ensure equity and resource allocation um the state priorities established the focus areas of improvement um the lcap links funding to specific actions and measurable goals and the dashboard tracks progress and identifies areas needing attention um uh the Statewide system of support offers a targeted assistance to districts based on performance data so we have our focusing on the iabs next slide um to support lcff priorities to and for those priorities are geared towards outcomes and our state standards and they also support English language Learners in the lcap goals that are um heavily touched by priorities to enforce our goal 1 Equitable access to to high-quality curriculum go to targeted supports um intervention mtss inclusion um udl goal 5 which is our English language proficiency and bi literacy goal and then goal 7 are black student achievement plan and we do want to make sure that everybody realizes that in K12 English language development in support of English language Learners is a collective effort as we all teach and support English language Learners on their journey to English language proficiency next slide please so we started our journey um back in September Building forward together um with the instructional leads the department chairs the assistant principals leading our journey through towards iabs iabs have been using CC USD before but we are reintroducing them next slide So In Session 1 we basically it was um basically signing up for David we did have some struggles there because um it would time out in 30 minutes and so some of our our staff had some struggles logging in but we managed to do a little PLC qualitative feedback to find out how plc's actually work at CCSD so our first session we our second session I'm sorry we did some heavy lifting with an overview of the 23 24 Summit of assessment and then we um looked at our blueprints go ahead and do the next slide um we did look at the elpac blueprint so everyone would know the types of items that they would be seeing um on the elpac our students would be seeing um and we had the entire staff do that so they can see how they could support our students next slide um we also did an average of What types of items would be on the state test so that they can see that um how heavily weighted each claim was so for math claim 1 um Concepts and procedures um that's going to be 40 to % in English language arts it's heavily reading um but it's reading both literature and informational texts and then for science it's equally weighted physical life and Earth science and we did go over what iebs are so they have icas which is very comprehensive we recommend it against that but we did want uh teachers to be able to choose interim assessment blocks and focused assessment blocks to progress monitor where our students are at in this session and we did pull at Services uh wonderful Devon Norris and Erica young Alonso pulled some items for our teachers to analyze um we did um analyze some elpac items as well and our teach were able to analyze content format rigger delivery um how to deliver how to support English language development in their each individual subjects whether it's elective whether it was CTE that was the goal of that day and so tomorrow that we're going to do plan do assess act um not plan do study act but plan do assess act and they're going to go through the S system which is um what we have on on the cast Alpac system that gives our formative assessment our iabs and our um focused iabs and they're going to select um an IB to give before February 12th so that we can analyze that data our other this is where we split off our other departments are going to do some udl work and this is with the help of the instructional leads in the aps we do have a little bit of a pivot with secondary but this is the session 3 agenda and I just wanted to say other than well there's demographic data that we can keep track of using the iabs and uh focused diabetes there's also we can view the items we can look at distractors all those types of things that we can use to uh lesson plan for a future um curriculum Matt pace and see how our students are doing and we can also see it demographically um and we can see every single item so this is something that we're really excited about because I think the system has changed along the way it's really pretty robust and then our next section session on February 12th we're going to analyze that data and see what kind of adjustments we can make to our lessons and our delivery or perhaps um interventions or small group um differentiation or Reit if we need to and so when the teachers choose the IE they'd like to go ahead and test the waters with that's will be their next plan this is our articulated data protocol um they're going to answer questions like or certain distractors misconceptions and they're just going to have a talk together as a team so that they come up with a plan for um reteaching like I said to intervention or differentiation and then our last session will be um curriculum mapping and vertical articulation so that is next slide this is the map that we went through and we are currently on that third Block in the top and we'll be working on plan due assess Act thank you and thank you and that was the journey through IVs focused IVs and such thank you so much Dr Garner for the presentation and colleagues questions just want I think you covered a little bit later about what IE stand for but sorry I'm joining Americans against acronyms oh yeah so I did have explanations of acorns in my presentation and completely forgot them and started to talk like an educator so it is interim assessment blocks and so we just call them IBS in the interim assessment blocks can be about 4 standards or they can be 2 those would be the focused ones so if you just want a a questions on 1 standards to see a students know it deeply that's the focus and then the interim assessment block that has about 400 a little fewer per standard but um and covers a little bit more so interim assessment block absolutely and then this is probably for of a different section because this is mostly focused on curriculum but getting the parents to understand their role in this is so critical with English Learners um and making sure that they understand I know that's not this so I don't want to go too far if but it's it it's something that our own family experiences uh my wife who's first generation came here um and wasn't an English learner and you know the the difference that parents who understand how to get involved with their kids and get involved with education is so important it's something that we do a lot of um that complements the great work that you're doing here and it's a great question it did come up at DAC most recently and so they're going to be information for for families in English and in Spanish explaining the the testing mechanism how it's formatted and giving parents very and families very specific tools to assist them as they as they work with their children at home thank you thank you yeah and I just want to say how thrilled I am to see us doing workaround formative assessment and particularly using the iabs there's so many iabs available at this point it used to just be math and language arts and now it's you know the the elpac ones it's also the science ones and things like that and there's so many that it's it's fairly common for a district to say all right everybody in third grade give the second you know IAB under test light conditions and we'll actually look at the scores and see how kids are doing but there's so many other ones that you can use them instructionally you can use them in non-standard ways you can project it and talk about it with the kids you know and because there's so many of them um that's that's totally legitimate it's a it's a great way to to do that to get kids used to it um get teachers used to it but also to to gather some data um so thank you very much for for this Focus thank you thank you and also you know it's good for our public I don't know how many are on 30 them right now and maybe they'll watch this later to know what is happening in our classrooms when our students aren't there right um I am up I apologize that I did not ask this question ahead of time but as you um work talking about this um it came to mind that you know so are we working towards like making our inner like certain interim assessments mandatory for especially in our um K5 like block so the um are to make more of them mandatory so that you can track the data throughout and not rely on the cast data all the time so that we have local data yes that is the purpose to make sure that we are um progress monitoring more often using interim assessments there are many of them but we'd like to make it a part of our assessment plans that we give out at each year so that we can pivot if we need 2 shipped if we need to and sometimes just these minor changes can make a big difference so doing an interim focusing on the inter interim talking about it with the kids like uh Mr Grow said maybe having group work around it those little changes can make big difference expenses and so I guess what I'd I'd like to request in the future is that if you as you evolve your you know what you are um requesting to be standard ize across the especially I I I'm pointing at K5 right now because we only have 1 Middle School right so like you know what's you know what's already happening there there's there's standards there but you know um as we evolve solve these like I'd like to be kept um aware of like okay previously we had you know X many uh Through The Years you know previously we had X many uh local data points that we can speak to in terms of that are across all all the um schools and then we're moving towards why or recommendation is this it's not something that we necessarily you know have to chime in on but it's something that we can see that you're moving towards something that um that we just don't have to rely only on the caaspp perfect thank you thank you thank you so much questions thank you um item 9.8 are the SARS these are due for Action annually February 1st our date has changed a bit because of the recent Wildfire events however were going to keep with our timeline as SARS are ready for information tonight and will be ready for action on January 28th what the SARS do is they report the prior years um um in the prior years um performance textbooks all of the different aspects and each sarc is attached it has Cass data and all of the different pieces that schools are used to measure it is in essence a school accountability report card to spell out that acronym thank you so much Dr boxer colleagues questions just 1 quick 1 um I noticed in past years the Starks in the facility section has had this long laundry list of like a hundred punch items that need to get fixed um it's presented a little bit differently this year is that because we realized we didn't need to be doing that has there been some change we follow the template and beyond that so the state puts out the template it's in our template system and then we we populate it that way through through our good friends in maintenance and operation and Miss Rajiv would you like to add on to that so the facilities inspection told this time Auditors pointed out we are supposed to only list the summary page not the detailed page I think we missed the summary page last year so that's why we only added the summary page and yes there's a lot of details behind it folate software for their use for library for deduct to in order to catalog their books great can I have a motion so moved second Great colleagues questions no right uh all those in favor say I hi hi hi um 131 um the 13.1 we intend to pursue the 10 billion dollars of um approved by the voters um in November 2024 the state's prop 2 dollars we would like to um apply for those additional funding this will support our security eligibility for funding through our school facility program this initiative is crucial to our district facility needs with the mejri dollars we can add more into our capital projects approval of this solution will allow the district to proceed with applying for additional funding from the state I'll move it second colleagues all in favor say hi hi 132 Southland Industries actually provided an install the final phase of the HVAC insulations at the high school elderly Khan and facet during summer and they finalized the project recently so this is basically the total final contract um cost of the contract is 1.5 million and right now this is just to um we seeking your approval to because the project is completed and then releasing the retention dollars motion moved to approve and again colleagues question I I do have 1 question can you share with the public what you shared with me because I I expressed my concern just a little bit of butterflies I get any time we we you know finalize a contract uh on construction that we are saying it is done and you know but but what did you share about the guarantee so we have um the moment you actually board approves the um the notice of completion then Begins the manufacturer's warranty for 1 year and then the contractors warranty for 1 year so the next 1 year we will be you know if any of these systems they do not work and then that we can go back to the contractor we can go back to the manufacturer but this step is important for that so from Tomorrow the 1 year start the 1 year clock starts okay sorry 13.3 the 13.3 is um the above um 13.2 that you just approved Southland Industries we had a lease lease back contract so this is just closing that contract um it's a formality to close the contact between ccusd because they leased or property and they did all the work now we are closing that contract the property reverts back to ccusd now and this is just a process so that now after you approve this resolution then that that contract ends because there is no lease the leasing contract portion is ending right now and then Begins the financing portion of the contract moved to approve in favor say I I 14.3 is an update to the classified substitute salary schedule this is for all unrepresented employees um when the minimum wage went up there was 1 category on there and that was the fingerprints to come back which we have no control over how long they take and um just several people that we've hired who with the holidays and breaks and so forth are still finishing up paperwork so will be more on the next agenda and then we will be finished with um our hiring Fair fantastic and I and I am thrilled with the positions that are being filled um what I really look forward to and this was a little bit of a discussion you and I had is when this begins to have uh Financial impact in the positive way because some of these folks uh the job is currently done by somebody doing it on contract uh which is costing significantly more than having somebody who's 1 of our employees so as we look for cost-saving things uh that's a great way to do it cutting folks that aren't even your the success of your hiring fair and so if we could if we could concentrate around that that would be great cool we only need to yeah okay great um 162 featuring items call it I mean I think we were discussing earlier I don't know to what extent you know the timeline on this would be but the you know the gift policy at some point and also talking about the Press Box and you know get details around that um that would be great the second 1 the second the Press Box oh Press Box yeah yeah just to get some more information on that and personally I would also like to hear more often from CBC than we do I mean it sounds like they're coming back to give the social media presentation but you know more than once or twice a year would actually be really great we've actually talked about kind of trying to set up a rotation of different committees whether it's the equity committee or or different committees just having somebody report occasionally so we're hearing from some of our sleep uh interest holder input groups yeah that's that's a um good point as well I mean we definitely have a bunch of different committees that I think we should be hearing from here too um I think we have to vet through these a little bit but there are a couple coming projects and proposals that impact the district including the slova project which would expand potentially expand our ability to get students to UCLA uh things like that um so just to put it on the radar but understand if it's not vetted full enough fully enough um you know we can reconsider that um that and if there's any legislation coming down the pike too but again there's a vetting process for that yeah and I just want to um these These are great um thought starters but also we um because this is the first time that we're really doing this as a full meeting um that sometimes the staff will come back back to us and say this isn't actually ready like this isn't an action yet or this or we'll recommend it to be in action so it's um a matter of us just taking the um keeping our own uh tabs on the pulse of things and making sure that they're timely um no ABS that's why I said that's exactly there's a lot of vetting that needs to do and obviously that's what we have this wonderful folks helping us so is that a colleagues it's good point 1 a German and I don't know if you did you want to adjourn in memory
