Hurtado good evening I'm hoping everybody is doing great night straight to me back I'm coming to you tonight as your school coordinator even though a motion was approved while ago and Council we finally got our green light about 10 days ago and I just wanted to bring you speed on the station school around with his back and forth this year we have already have jumped right in contact with all of our principals all of our school parents and moving forward with some programming and getting really excited for the new school year I know where couple days into it already but I realized the you said it was just going out to over 1,000 parents in the district or revamping the website we're planning and promoting roll Festival on September 24th so we encourage you to put that on your calendar and join us if we're in the process of Planning Group War Fry's workshops and whole bunch more stuff will be at Fiesta be at Robin on it this weekend all the activities and engaging with the public will be introducing ourselves back into the middle school and we look forward to working on not only with your staff of course of the staff at the city council and I'm excited to be back in school so I thank you for all your support and reminder to all the parents out there that each block and every day that's not driven really matters so whether it's once a month or once a week or every day always come home or just a couple of blocks it all makes a big deal a community and only works if we all try gather and Freddy questions or comments to do visit the site now you know I'm at www.cc.com come and pay for yesterday and all the events next week thank you very much and look forward to working with you yesterday evening numbers at the board I just wanted to bring up something. The ccims community has been bringing up and many of them don't feel comfortable speaking out so I'm not just doing this on my behalf but also other teachers at the Culver City Middle School I would like for the board to know and for the administrators that work at the district office to consider allowing some staff meeting to be done on zoom in Virtual while I understand we all understand that mask mandates are no longer required but highly encouraged not all of us can take off our masks for personal reasons and we are being asked to be massed on campus for some of us to get there sometime at around 7 or 6:30 a.m. for an extraordinary amount of time and also I just also wanted to say that on Zoom meetings for stopping if the district is truly embrace technology I think it's the most wonderful way of learning technology and so again I'm not asking for everything to not be in person but I'm asking for the district to consider High options when providing professional development thank you thank you really that's our final hand so okay then figure out a few minutes but I think I just signed up to make comments at last night's city council meeting my name is a parent of a high school student here in Culver City comment on something on the consent agenda but I'm still learning the order and sequence of thanks it's okay because it's still relevant for another upcoming item on the 6.4 the certificate and Personnel Services I noticed that there's a number of brand new teachers probationary teachers at santastic the Culver City is able to find and fill those positions and we've all heard a lot about vacancies and teacher shortage is out there so it's a good for the district for being able to find that I know let it be the other the number of temporary teachers with your hired on unsingle your contract including a health teacher and a number of elementary teachers and some CT teachers and then coming up a little bit later on the agenda item 16.3 the district has a declaration for the need for fully qualified teachers including as you look at the list health teacher and a number of elementary teachers in some language teachers and given how hard it is to find unqualified teachers right now I hope the district doesn't have a practice of hiring folks onto temporary contracts for the convenience of the district that's really what probationary is meant for to bring on teachers you know teachers can be view teachers can be let go or cut the budget or where skills don't work out but temporary contracts are not a great way to so you teachers that we welcome them we want them to be part of our our community and we want them to stay with us for a long time we we need to invest in them if we expect that stuff I would really hope the district doesn't use thank you thank you thank you we have to respond sure if anybody from staff wants to respond to that you're welcome to when Human Resources hires teachers as you likely know teachers are hired either a probationary status or temporary status and the reason that the district might hire a teacher and a temporary status might be due to the funding because have a one or two-year funding another reason might be that you're hiring a teacher to backfill for a permanent teacher and that case you would hire teacher and a temporary contract there are several reasons why you might excuse me hire a teacher on attempt contract but the gentleman is absolutely correct whenever possible we would do prefer to hire teachers on a probationary contract okay so maybe at a future meeting or in the write a memo to the board you might take a look at those and see if yes thank you okay is that all members of the audience but then next up is Scituate D employee groups we usually start with Aces Debbie Hemi on zoo thank you dr. Levin I would like to point out that we can barely hear you all so I don't know if it if you're not speaking into the microphones or if there's something wrong with the sound in the but we cannot hear you that being said the one thing that I would like to use my time for this evening is to let all of the candidates for school board that are C in the audience tonight know that they will be receiving email invitations to Ace's interview panel that is scheduled for Wednesday August 31st those were sent out this evening so please check your email and respond to us as soon as possible what time slot you would like to have for your interviews or starting at 6 p.m. at with half hour times. We have a ray long from CC ft can you hear us any better I can't either and I definitely gotten texts from people saying that we we can't he so for a bus those of us in Zoom land I think there might be a little Tech issue to look into so so if you think so you're welcome back to are teachers and staff the first board meeting since we've officially been back so welcome back to everyone and here's to a really good year couple quick things that I want to address I thought mustard girl had a really good point about taking a look at our temporary teachers versus our probe one teacher especially when we have a need you know I think there is a big teacher shortage right now they're certain dishes that are in high-need so I think whenever we can get people on a probe contract probationary contract versus temporary would be great so I'd be definitely hoping that we can look into some of our temperatures in and move them into glad you understand the constraints in HR around that issue is as well so I just wanted to give you a fake speaker for mentioning that as well the other thing is you know one thing I want to talk about or are fish Tony's had mentioned this last meeting that you know our facilities are really in ragged shape right now and you know I appreciate some kind of a long-term plan from the board on how you play to address facilities that are Buena falling apart you know where schools are falling apart we have Plumbing issues we have issues with many of the windows what is our long-term goal is a district do address of these really bad facilities issues this aging infrastructure that we have here in Culver City Unified I want to stress this again I think I'm going to continue to stress this is to Riggs I'm in our relationship with the city of Culver City in the amount of money that they contribute to the school board the Culver City city council touts itself as a very Progressive City Council but they do nothing to help schools city of Santa Monica gives over 10 million dollars a year to their Public Schools so why can't we do better here in Culver City and with that added funny that will address many of these issues like around your temporary teachers and salaries in many of the things that we brought up time and time again so I really encourage some of the board members to start reaching out you know you're really the ones you need to reach out to be city council members and see about our relationship because our joint-use agreement I don't know how old that is but it's something that really needs to be re-examined and I would say we can do better as a we can do a lot better as a district I also want to stress that many of our after-school programs are fair and Equitable to all all of our students and families in the district we have a lot of programs that are offered by outside groups that do business with the district all that don't make it very equitable for example many have there sign ups at awkward times of the day that don't forget Apple benefit our staff if we have a sign up at 12 noon on a random Wednesday our staff work you're dying for child care right now and then mr. Tran brought that up at the at his opening remarks how do you expect teachers to sign their kids up for after-school programs that's not a very equitable system and I we're seeing that time and time again I brought this up before I'm at the sites and I would say that if outside agencies want to do business with Culver City Unified that the board should stress to them that you need to have practices to ensure that all of our kids have an equal chance to get these sign-ups inform me as a perspective as the union leader certainly the opportunity for staff because what the situation with OCD and eat it is funding the one of the things that unfortunately was a victim of covid-19 Stay option that teachers used to have the sign their kids up for Wednesdays when there's PD without that you know there's there's not many other options so I would ask that we look into that further on the making this a more Equitable system for everyone to have the opportunities to sign up I'm in finally with Debbie and just mention ccft we met today or political action committee and two people that may be in the oven since I will be reaching out to you as well or interviews with board candidates will be Tuesday the 30th and no actually begin at 4 p.m. so that will be happening for ccft and we will be reaching out to the TV running for the Board of Education with more information and an opportunity to sign up for those slots thank you everyone and here's to a great year thank you thank you mr. Kent there's somebody raise their hand from the the period for public comment of items not on the agenda has closed I understand it was different look for people to hear on Zoom so my suggestion is if you're hearing me now and we're not aware that the period for public comment was open raise your hand and we'll try and fix this that's okay good cuz I'll point it out it's not our intention to prevent anybody from speaking okay then next on the agenda is the superintendent a good evening board members and president Levin it is a it is our first full on board meeting of the school year and I'm happy to say that a lot of the things that we were to accomplish over the short time and summer many of those things are now moving forward but I'm going to share some of my time with other of my colleagues from at the cabinet level to share that with the board I have two quick things that I just wanted to take some time the the August 25th town hall meeting number two on Safety and Security will be held at the Robert Frost from 6 to 7:30 p.m. this coming Thursday again on the 25th of August it will be a Zumba hybrid meeting and it would take probably the place of a seminar another word members of the audience could come in and address Us in public in person or could send in questions videos of the world structure that and a zoom link will be sent tomorrow morning to all of the members and the day before the town hall we will send that out again just to make sure that everyone have that information TV series of I am thinking that we might structurally the meeting once a month roughly just to keep up with the developing situation with with all kinds of concerns and safeties and including covid-19 protocols including Awareness Month pox and even though the polio that is creeping up somewhere in our country and the list is kind of alarming at this point but we just trying to keep our people out Community informed the 2nd of September 15 is a conversation between the mayor's office and the school district and I am still not sure where we're going to hold that we were hoping to have West LA College to host the event by the turnout at the West LA College facility may not be suitable so September 15th from 6 to 8 p.m. and I'm sending that information out as soon as probably this week we need to firm up the the location and most likely I believe we may have to hold at the high school but that is yet to be confirmed so again August 25th and September 15th and if I could take a few minutes and introduce the rest of my executive members and begin with Doctor Baxter and Christopher intended Tran members of the board can you hear me we're happy to share the progress on our dual enrollment efforts in the summer of 2120 students enrolled in classes at West l.a. through the dual enrollment process this past summer of 2020 to 80 students enrolled in classes at West l.a. through the dual enrollment process students are taking or I've taken introduction to business art a real estate one on the cchs campus to prepare for the 20 22 23 dual enrollment program a dual enrollment newsletter was sent out by the high school to Culver City High School students and families the newsletter discusses the benefits of taking dual enrollment classes while in high school and the dual enrollment classes are offered on site and at the West Los Angeles College campus in Santa Monica College campus this year special thanks to dr. tarvis for organising a robust online catalog the Partnerships with West LA College in San oncologist College are continuing and expanding this fall this year there is a great interest in American Sign Language with 32 students from Culver City High School showing an interest in that horse American Sign Language count as a foreign language class for a through G language requirements which means the two-year if you take it for two years ASL meet the two-year language requirement that other courses for students are showing in demonstrating their interest 79 in total as of this afternoon or 10 students are enrolling in the Child Development courses 24 in the introduction to business 12in the speech and rhetoric course and is registering for the anthropology course more to come as this is ongoing State enrollment events are tonight and tomorrow night some students will take Japanese language at Santa Monica College and their regularly scheduled Japanese classes Japanese language classes and their credits will count toward their language requirement students can take any Community College Class free of charge although dual enrollment classes are offered on campus students can take classes West LA campus or the Santa Monica campus thank you if I could add one more contacts to the Deptford Ford college credits in college classes we would like to make clear that's all about students who are eligible for the AVID program this year they will receive you as much support so we could put behind that that group so that when they leave out of school they will have at a minimum two years of college credits as part of their preparation for college attendance so there are a lot more information in a lot more development regarding the dual enrollment program and will bring it to the board for more conversation I'm Mr Alucard I can take a few minutes thank you mr. Tran so I'm as many of you possibly know that during the summer when everything is closed down and individuals are employees our students are able to take time off for rest and relaxation Human Resources gets pretty busy and this summer is no exception so we've been hiring and a hiring frenzy so beginning with a certificated we count today at 61 certificated employees those would include coordinators teachers the teachers would be Elementary secondary with single subject icte special education dual language teachers counselors and psychologists and administrators for a total of 61 certificated as far as via classified employees are we have 52 classified employees that we've hired over the summer so that would include food services Health assistants instructional assistants technology technicians at target language apart providers occupational therapist noon Duty supervisor is custodial staff Administrative Assistant in addition to a few others over over all we've hired over 100 100 employees will classified certificated staff management so we're pleased to announce fat and in the past few months we've really done our best to broaden our search we reached out to universities and community colleges and we looked at local city Publications we play some ads there we're even in communication with other I school districts private recruitment such as a indeed I were looking at going to a couple of job fairs and also word of mouth so if I work currently work in a process of looking for a free example health teacher Japanese teacher computer teacher at it just named a few so if anyone has any leads for us please contact human resources and if I could also ask on Instagram to share with us some of the update over the submerged work as well as what we're planning to do for the next 2 months in a district one of knowledge are mot and custodial staff who did such a great job this summer there's a ton of projects we accomplish this summer just to get some of the highlights the remaining restrooms at the high school where all remodeled so now all the high school and middle Corbin done some of the elementaries and we're working on the rest of the elementaries we did power washing exterior power washing the exterior of the high school late in the summer so that really helped to clean up a lot of the stuff the buildings and the walkways our custodial staff to deep cleaning at every one of our school sites in the classrooms in the hallways and everywhere around the schools we had a couple of repair projects we had to do the flooded rooms at La Bona we're all fixed and repaired and plenty of time for the teachers and students to get back in there and then we had some repairs and remodeling in the lava and a kitchen that we're done to make that a safer and more efficient place and then we installed a whole new set of Hydration Stations at the middle school and high school sister the water drinking situation over there I have a much bigger but I don't want to go into all of it and drag it on we're also moving ahead with several projects that were raised during the recent school safety discussion so I I want to mention those the safety glass going in at a lot of the school offices and the access control so we can electronically control the entrance doors at the schools those are beginning to happen right now 1 board members mentioned we have a lighting contract on tonight's action items for increased additional lighting throughout the district I think of six of our school sites and that's a really big one that came out of the sea to discuss the possibility of a weekend to bring a deep cleaning I'm back to the middle school and see if we can repeat the success we've had at the high school and be cleaning over the timer it is a matter of time that we run out of time before we can get to the middle school but that is can I come out of this as well I could also mcmansion quickly last Sunday we had a large number of our administrators to come out and joint together with our but I'll call you from the the Culver City Police Department to conduct some critical license using a middle and high school as he a practicing for their staff so we are looking at maybe sometime reporting out on August 25th I forgot to mention that before coming but may I introduce dr. Jennifer skip 40 minutes of job report to the board game there's a button thank you superintendent DIY office recently submitted an application for an antibiotic Grant to the California Department of Education we our premise was seeking to address the needs of our lgbtq like a student and their intersectionality race ethnicity and permit status cuz those are those areas of concern we want to improve School climate increase School connectedness and meaningful participation reduce bullying based on their actual or perceived sexual orientation and gender identity gender expression and intersecting identities are please support students to initiate and lead efforts to create the liberated learning environments that are free of bias and if we listen to their needs and concerns that we design and Implement professional development to mitigate bias foster care in relationships and engaged learning then we will provide an inclusive environment and safe haven for the intersectionality of lgbtqia students and other identities at funds will support people and activities and strategies impacting all 2200 Plus have R high school students and provide personal development for 128 Educators Fulton Street if excited and classified we will be notified in November we ask for an award of 200,000 in addition tomorrow where having our first e a c meeting Equity advisory council meeting of the year one of the primary agenda items is picking up the conversation from the May 12th BAC passports about the DEA statement on job description there was quite a bit of conversation and notes from those meetings that we will revisit tomorrow in order to craft a draft that we will also share with and seek input from our labor and bargaining unit so that we can move forward with our Collective statement on all the job description and I think o d i office have a new Final executive finally an executive assistant Antoinette Stewart who started on yesterday so I'm very pleased about that and if I do you wrap up with a yet exciting development we are looking at convening the equity advisory Council for a retreat with hoping to land that all day. somewhere at the weekend with a Friday of September 16th we still trying to figure out the place and location and possibly we may have to push back the date a little bit but I just want to keep the golden formula Q are we going this well at about six and a half hours of deep conversation is called a setting to the next steps in the plan and the actions and the resolutions and all the issues we need to address to keep moving forward the agenda for the district and at this point I just want to take a minute to say welcome to the brand new school year to all of our teachers and stopping ministration classify members and our parents were volunteers and we are looking forward to an exciting school year thank you may I ask a question in response to the staff report read me and the tablet report right I do have the potential date on my calendar but I don't have the next meeting and it did I overhear you tomorrow so I must apologize we the AC Website login Lister and then transfer from my predecessor document Shara things got really lost so I did send out a notice today because that was on the calendar we published in June so I did and I noticed today it is very very short notice hoping that be it was on the calendar from June but we will get that straight if I see now that we have support in that office my apologies the sexiest and say okay thank you okay are we ready to move on to the student representative for ports oh I see the dragon why don't we start with you sharelink Renee SD held a rally on the first day of school to welcome back all the students in regards to activities we have our first football game this Friday today we had a soccer primetime game against the Venice and player from Elias he came out to the event to support we have our First Assembly in three years next Wednesday the 31st and we're having our club there on September 13th in regards to campus will be in clear replacing the butterfly benches in the Peace Garden and the gardens Cooney saw why is currently being renovated most of the water filters aren't working so students are unable to get water or refill their water bottles dr. Cooper has been notified but we understand that the water stations are under maintenance maintenance control over all the first few days is a few days of school and I'm looking forward to what's next do we have any other student board member reports anybody answer I know there was one earlier about them right away and there was a colleague of yours online but it wasn't through I don't see the yes I do so Fernanda Vitas but I don't know that that person is prepared speeding necessarily do you know I don't know I usually don't have it she from the Middle School Fernandez or student word rap high school but she separate from ASP so we could like that that's going to borrow it wasn't connected to straight to our government we also had an outside point of view as well well welcome as well and she was reading the next board meeting that I'm perfectly fine for this one just one more moment text Ben members word end with bright start with you welcome back everyone I just first want to say thank you to all of the your kids back on the campuses this year I know it's not easy seed and you really never stopped working during the summer and I'm starting to believe the teachers and staff lives on campus Because you kind of data summarized for all the work I was there for as many of the registrations at the middle school and high school and the high school grade level in Soul Knight and I just know that there are a lot of steps to getting students back into the classrooms and I just want to thank everyone who has been diligent about all that work I also want to say a special thank you to stop in a team that's the end of the opportunities that you should  the best Baxter about a dual enrollment I think that's a great opportunity for our students that they haven't really had in the past and just wondering considering our teacher shortage if there is an effort to develop a pathway through the weekend I heard early childhood development but maybe we can start working on something so that we can get more students interested in becoming teachers and then coming back in teaching in Culver City for a great welcome back we heard from Debbie Hackney and Ray long and many others and I just I thought it was a really great Welcome Back event that had a lot of substance gave us a lot of information and let staff know the direction that the district is going in which is really meaningful to them I know because we have had a lot of transitions at the district level levels and it's really important for people to know where we're at right now over the last several weeks there's still a lot of things that I want to share but I'll try to keep it for a few weeks ago super the train and I took a walking tour of Hawthorne High School and I just want to say a public thank you to superintendent nocturnal mental facilities and operations and a host of other directors who met us and gave us a tour of their Brandon Smith bilities Hawthorne High School for somebody who may not know has been almost completely rebuilt and modernized and still have several of the other campuses throughout Centinela Valley Unified High School District which is just down from here and are we because I was interested in learning about their process for Community engagement prioritization and bond oversight I know that our current bond has pretty much run its course but if we ever revisit another Bond or gain access to phone that can be used for Capital Improvements I want to make sure that we are using every penny to prepare and modernize pretty much every inch of our campuses because there's a lot of work that needs to be done so they welcomed us back if we do reach does it that we have an open invitation come back and learn more about the ways to pay out there and dust at their dollars into their campuses housing development meeting its 2nd community meeting regarding the proposed 95 add 100% permanent affordable housing project at the Culver Palms Methodist Church that's on Sepulveda they had a webinar presentation and time for 2 and afterwards they send notifications about two neighbors who live within 500 feet of copper Palms Methodist Church and that's the site of the proposed developments for these 95 units 100% permanent affordable housing the partnership with community of Santa Monica and Culver Palms Methodist is not they actually started talking about it publicly and engaging with the community over a year ago and I actually met with their executive director Tara boraski last year when I first heard about the project I just wanted to let you know that they are absolutely interested in building a partnership with the district I believe they did come to a meeting once last year when when it was in the early stages of development but I do want to make sure that we stay connected to them they cannot earmark units that become available for our families but knowing that we seen it it's an element of likes decreasing or declining enrollment but also the cost of living being too expensive in Culver's we seen I think in one year like 70 students disenroll because they were priced out of the community or that was one of the reasons why and so if this is something that we can be on the front lines when there are units available they can't find us and hold them for us but they can definitely be in communication with us early and often will and units become available and to program needs and I'm looking at Montes in the audience who knows when those students and Community are in danger of losing their housing it just seems like a natural connection that we can make to help families because I've been in those companies meetings and heard about families who were on house because they had a fire or they are they can't pay their their rentals in arrears and they can't make the cost I just want to ask someone to make a note that I will share the information with everyone that we can stay in contact with them since they are opening up those lines of communication to the district I attended a cfp a Leadership Institute what seems like forever ago I won't go into too much detail but there was a lot of really valuable information to work the breakout sessions included governing effectively and difficult and challenging times which were in right now how to prioritize sport in mental health benefit for every leane through the storm financing and education during turbulent times crisis communication before the crisis and reimagining rebuilding and leveraging authentic Community engagement a lot of great . There are elevated let me some is all that I were there and I'm sure she probably has no suit I would love for us to maybe somehow carve out some time maybe not during a board report tonight but just to share notes because there was some really valuable information and I would love for it exchange notes to see what I missed that you may have gotten it was also a keynote from doctors at the reals and dr. Natalie Stave us and that's only have tonight try to put a future meeting the two of you report out there was a lot of really good information so I would love to do that show me bring it up again again. I really spend I just wanted to do what Miss McBride said which was that I had spent a lot of time this summer doing professional development I attended along with Miss McBride the Labor Management collaboration conference in San Diego the cfda leadership which team more later on I also attended a Denver, conference and Denver call local progress and I just started to further the CFB a victim. training so lots of trainings that I've been doing this summer I definitely I do want to let my board members now that I also attended Google, a Methodist housing community meeting and I did provide public comment I said the statements were my personal views not the same as at the board which basically aligns with with Miss McBride Asain the district is having challenges hiring staff they can utilize the affordable housing that they're building and an addition that some of our families you know are also in need of affordable housing I do want to say that in public that I didn't provide public comment as a person will do something that we know how true that is happening and then I want to and ingratitude I want to just say thank you so much to the district this site everyone from those who clean to those who fled to those who brought a smile to someone else and and I want to read part of the welcome that I did which was a it's called the name is a Grace what does grace mean in education and this poem was created through an extra 30 that Mr trance guided in San Diego do the training and fifteen of us or Twenty of us provided our input and we collected this information on what does grace mean in education and so what I'm going to read our state man's from staff teachers cabinet members superintendent and board members and so I hope you enjoy this home and I thought I would either one more time so that our other partners who were not present such as our current community faith-based community can have an opportunity to appreciate what Grace means in agitation so he is having the time space and understanding to make mistakes and reset it said bilateral and Humane experience Grace is courteous Goodwill providing the time and space to learn and being kind with your words in the event mistakes are made race is assuming Goodwill and knowing that we all work in the steel because care about children and students Grace is giving people the opportunity to surprise you or change your mind about them Reese's giving yourself and others the space to make mistakes to not have answers at the drop of a hat a little time to respond it is recognizing the humanity in all of us Grace and education means extending time and space as we grow this in new areas during three of the pandemic Grace is holding each other accountable to treating each other with a lot of humanity empathy respect trust and forgiveness Grace is forgiving forgiving others and yourself if we can't be empathetic the least we can beat the sympathetic Grace is understanding that we may not always get get it right the first time together we can make mistakes that are right for our students Haiku in the State of Grace I passed compassion requires me to listen first Grace is being giving providing engaging I hope this is Tom gives us some of that energy that we need staff teachers honest traders to begin the school year and as we grow and learn together together this year that we do it with Grace thank you so much thank you and sorry that she thank you for remembering that I think it was easier but then after that I just want to thank my colleagues speaking of our students and families and our continued partnership with the community core the developer of the partnering with Culver Palms Methodist to build affordable housing project on Palmetto the car is it has also expressed interest in partnering with us as we investigate our own role in mitigating the housing crisis so I am I'm big fans of theirs as well and I'm excited to continue to be in conversation with. pick up off of Carly comments although it's not necessary but I was going to say you know it's that time of year where we think again about professional development but we're all continuously professionally developing so it doesn't need to be said but I'll just stay for the public that this board and previous Sports and talked about being committed to our own professional development in addition to the staff of course you do regularly attend and I think we had an agreement that would ask to be reimbursed for one conference the year but that we we all are currently going to numerous conferences a year and it makes me proud and so I also attended local progress in Denver and it's a relief plastic conference that I go to every year and I'm on their board and in particular what I learned from that conferences house that he's in school district and Partnerships all regional crises or Regional problems and it's a pizza particular skill-set that I value and I do I really can bring to my work here at the dais for ccusd loved the welcome back for stuff I cannot say it enough how much I loved it I loved the speaker to Townsend re Robbins which was a lovely surprise I happen to have a professional relationship with her and I was so fantastic to see her energy and our district on that day and I really appreciated superintendent and cabinet how you all presented your vision for the district and I just want to call out that I know that last year and for those of you who are not relevant but for the here at the time that we started school last year we came in so gently in crisis mode lots of problem solving very little time to build relationships and culture and Park Community knew and trusted us and so I see that you are doing the work to recoup from that and make up for that and tried to steal those relationships in the culture and the getting-to-know-you part and also being really clear about what the board and just Malaysian ironed and what the superintendent's goals for implementation are and it's I think we'll continue to check in but I think the initial foundational pieces to still a long way and so I just I really want to stay at again how grateful I am for that event it was also besides getting all that fun if I was also very moving and inspiring children were not able to attend their first day of school but I was to attend with Dr Gurney and Sohail. Sherman lots of new floors in the new Amazon yard that we will have a grand opening for shortly I saw a mural that parents made to beautify campus Etc many things that were just real lovely to see that our students can come into when they're starting up school again and I just wanted to compliment and thank doctor gurgi for all the work that that she's doing and compliment Emoji department and mr. plans for the improvements that were made over the summer because I feel such a sense of relief and pride about about many of those so that was about showing me all those things Fionna and yeah just all so incredible gratitude for all staff for creating a welcoming space for a children in this particular start of school because you know it came up for me that some students are triggered by coming after a break just because of what we've been through in the past two years some did not get to come back right away because they tested positive and but yet when they do come back I just you know was present and see all the smiling faces welcoming arms at every dock door at every entrance at on every walkway incredible enthusiasm incredible call her Pride spirit wear it's better than its and I know that this is what we do in school district in an Educator's but it's it's seemed extra this year and I appreciated that and I I wanted to call it out and I want to say thank you to doctor Smith for the memo contribution to the board that you made because I really love hearing about your Department's work I love all the Departments I don't want to diminish anybody's a country but I have to say like reading the work that you're doing even just a small snippet snippet in hearing a report out from your department it's it it's it feels very special to have not as if the work week is closed but that the department is a thing is happening you have money you're perceiving office it is pretty great I'm really excited about that and thank you so much for keeping us posted on and finally I wanted to respond to mr. Long's comments thank you so much for those mr. long I had to have dreamed for many years about the city contributing Direct Cash to our general counsel members. This is going to require from us search for us because we've been doing independent study for a really long time and doing it successfully so it was just a matter of putting the language in to the Newport policy they do we have enough stuff meet the demands of this didn't actually a lot of our students did go back to in person so we have the Staffing as right now to meet those needs and I would always go and say hey we might need we need to be okay I think either you know grammatical or or procedural or something up there relatively small at the bottom of page to the document is not numbered longer than 15 days requires either synchronous instruction and so what it what it acknowledged isn't this is we were really excited about is that students that are in a residential facility or receiving treatment on a regular basis we can still serve them actually really excited about this Edition why I think I actually do understand it more clearly now in the end is making sense upon third that well I wonder what is our practice and maybe it should be reflected here it is still our live interaction is the time for quarter eighth graders to meet with their peers and the teacher and we do mostly like SEL blessings it's connected to check in to see if it's not. where is synchronous always always connected with instructions so that is the teacher providing daily instruction for the student or weekly instruction so I think that's the way they can we do that with grades K through three their weekly appointment is there instruction and the weekly appointment is the weekly appointment is in person I guessed I'd be interested if colleagues are amenable and do you think it makes sense the language we currently are in the practice of delivering because the discrepancies what makes me uncomfortable so I'm trying to figure out how do we write it because this is what the language of the legislature so I'm not what language we can switch because this part was brought in from their language the way they prefer to live interaction and we have to keep track of their interaction and synchronous instruction so those things are items on our weekly ad Simon sheet so that we can identify when students participate in the Life interaction versus the instruction is the minimum required by the state my suggestion is that we go ahead and pass this but we asked you to come back Doesn't seem very people by supporting this equity and diversity plan you're supporting blatant racism you're taking away every student opportunity to work their way up no matter who they are by taking away 880 classes are taking away the student opportunity to challenge themselves to reach their full potential you're trapping them in a bubble and preventing them from fully explain their passions and instead of fun funnel links 19 million dollars into the equity and diversity plan you should follow that money into finding qualified teachers instead of feeling student teachers into that spot you can some of that money into new textbooks or new equipment for students so they can truly have it opportunity to succeed in education thank you so to the extent that was actually about item 14.1 board members can come mine on it but I want and it stopped wants to reply of course you're not under the same restriction this was part of the El Cap allocation Coraline 2 the El Cap allegation to the diversity equity and inclusion for so I would welcome an opportunity to go through this in some context whereby I can bring in the El Cap and the purpose of Dia but not in the car next job tonight 14.1 so if I may reach back to our community members and see if we can bring that to the address that the DEA I work is actually supporting what was stated tonight which is to give the opportunity additional challenges additional support so that everyone would get to an outcome that will reflect the equity the last through the board so I would welcome the opportunity to meet separately from tonight. Alarcon the little about it that it was based on feedback from both students and stuff so I just really appreciate it thank you all those in favor say aye to it was removed did we wrap the item 16.3 I have a card member of the audience wants to come in on it do you want to say anything about the item first between Dartmouth and on the Declaration of need so this is a document that we submit to watch eleicao I just keep letting them know that these are credentials that are hard to come by teachers that are hard to come by and so while we just wanted requesting approval for these specific content areas I would like to bring up the point again that when you look for higher education like when you go visit colleges you make a point that when you're paying for your education and you want it further your education that you have a qualified teacher or a qualified person to teach you those things and I feel like again we should be redirecting more of the money to finding qualified teachers for our students so they get the best possible education to further themselves so they can reach out and they have that experience to say well I want to pursue this because they had the right building blocks to get there so I just feel it's important that we put money into finding good teachers to teach our children so that they can be educated in this year that they want leave your chance if you want to say anything about what's what has been done to find Qualified teachers and why we're but it's always our goal to hire a fully qualified teacher made a credentialed teacher and so that's the first place we looked so short of that we look for alternatives for that we at least can have a teacher to start the year and often what happens as we find a teacher who's on their way to being fully qualified or credentials system with a classes they need to take to complete their credential and I mean I should have done the homework so I apologize sport his question Steven right now said that when I'm sorry I'm going to butcher it but something about the when teachers are on their way to becoming qualified that we hire them and you know get them more prepared with their certifications know these numbers look very familiar from last year so have they changed or have we increased I just want to know like are we the same as last year have any of those teachers actually become slightly and as I've been an earlier our first goal is to hire credential teacher but short of that if we're not able to then sometimes we'd like to look externally and sometimes we look through the hiring process and what can we do we have almost almost 20 teachers here they're on their way the initial report was based on information that we had I would say at least two months ago and so many of those positions have already been filled we have very few positions that are currently installed as far as credential teachers so many of those are already filled in the show of submission no I have a question men are you saying that even though we're putting in that we may need this year still optimistic that we may come out not needing to put in somebody we submit the document to cover ourselves but we may not need all of those thank you one more you take note of the people that were having trouble absolutely. I'm assuming you paid attention to that and every year when we negotiate salaries until 4 if that's one of the things you look at right yes we do as well as sleep are you the last question I do have is the platforms that we have started announcing these are all so we're putting money in the absolutely so how many of those are we we have local University local universities which actually are free but for example if indeed you know that's the cost that we added last year so some some of those are called send Olivia the Murphy we are free if we advertise in the local publication. Smith cuz I'm if you don't mind last year the equity advisory Council undertook a lot of hours of work and having conversations that we have time help nose pack it will be taking up with tomorrow and subsequent Equity advisory council meeting meeting to determine and craft a draft statement it's a Labour party and make sure to fix all of our future job descriptions that's the best I can so what what I'm requesting then is requesting approval for this job description but the amendment the equity advisory Council statement for diversity equity and inclusion so that should be completed tomorrow we're hoping we're hoping for a good draft tomorrow we still have to take a drive partners for input I'm a little concerned about that because it means the language that we're approving we don't have here right now and it's therefore not public and if some from the public wanted to comment on that they haven't seen the language yet they can't come in on it before we vote on it I'm not sure we're allowed to do it that way so that we're able to fill the position with a delaying that work I do think it's important to have the equity statement in there but I don't want to delay these positions that we really need and so uncomfortable approving this is and just knowing that the AC on. Christmas and sellercon are working on getting that language finalized so that once it is approved going forward all of the job descriptions will have that language I don't support and not approving this tonight as is while we wait on that language the other touchpoints where that message can be sent to the people who apply future job descriptions will have it we're saying that you wanted us to prove it if with the expectation that that language would be attitude this job description I agree with Mr pride is if you is that I think that would be perfect a lot of hard work actually went into this and it's an important position and moving forward then we would add the statement to Future job description to bring it forward to the board and there's some other way. add this to this description in the future I'm fine with that but it needs to be done in a way that the public gets to see what we're voting on it as a chance to come in if they wish to harm, I just have a quick one and that is Wednesday text is crafted by I really think it's important for us to have it on our website for HR so that regardless of his age old position for new position has it at our website has it so so that it's been lives there so as soon as the statement is craft we approve it we get feedback let's put it on our website to ensure that human resources lives with equity I have a little bit of frustration because we've been talkin about some of those things that we're looking for an R.
