you do not test on the dashboard and we we really want to know everybody's doing because as mr. Tran mentioned that opportunity Gap that's where this team lives because we do need to make that better and so now that we know we can all be better if we shared and we all do but we all do better we do more we do different and that we put in support thank you so much potassium in looking at the the number of students who on the on the dashboard 7 out of Forney one of our on how students didn't complete the tests and there's a huge penalty for that and low and behold that's one of the groups that have the mail lowest score of that score May not reflect their actual score and to their tunnel built into that and so you know I don't know that it's by the house families choosing not to take the test so part of what we need to do is also look at how can we support people you know to be at school because ultimately being in school is the most important thing but also to complete the task it may not be a matter of choice in the matter of opting out it may just be a matter of life is hectic you know and that's not the priority so how can we support the photos be more successful and are making such an excellent point and as we weave that into the next area of action for student groups and we continue lunch and it's definitely something we're going to include cuz it's important so if it's all right I'm going to go on to the math cuz we have a few more slides and I know there's other people we want to talk to you soon so in terms of academic performance in math and our distance from standard overall Austin is -7.1 so we'll look at the visual and just a moment but here is your son standouts right we have - 72 in terms of African American black event on the math test we have I won't read all these you cuz you all can read and we'll look at the next light as well but are English Learners are at -41 points from standard now the English Learners is a diverse group there are English Learners all English Learners their English learners listen to be like today at and that can be something within the Friday might as well there's the reclassified English Learners and then there's the comparison to overall and so I told them I told this so This dad that I was going to what he said and he did say that this is a diverse group and it shows if our reclassified kiddos are doing so well there a program works at so I'm going to borrow that so also are Hispanic students are - 48 it is experiencing homelessness the state uses the term homeless the best why it is spelled out that way or - 123 points and our students with disabilities or - 111 so what we we are going to do is play we saw that overall we were doing we were doing well in comparison but when you look at the student groups who tells a different story and here we have a lot of opportunity to store up for the gaps and so if we look at the next light which is that 20 is the gas at standard and then if we look below you can see visually what we were talking about this pause to tell you that and the opportunity Gap is 178 points from the from the student group is performing the highest and the most important and so there is an opportune for us to be able to support students to communicate this and to wish build supports in place which will dr. Garner if he's going to go into a deep dive around our an academic engagement regarding our student engagement fingers this is The Chronic absenteeism in the next five will be the graduation rate as you can see just all the way through there is it's being bad our students expired experiencing homelessness in students with disabilities continue highlighted throughout our program throughout our presentation I just wanted to make a note that our students experiencing homelessness is 107 in the district but chronic absenteeism as I said in my last line is only AAA so that's the difference between those number so I wanted to point that out but we do see between those two columns the absenteeism rate so for example students experiencing homelessness 42% and 42.6% that means that 50 at 2354 are experiencing are experiencing chronic absenteeism in just as was alluded today I mean those reasons could be anxiety Southwest housing housing instability transportation and stability so some of these things we have to concentrate Barber academics point that out as well so thank you for that so I I won't read all of it for you but go ahead and look at be at the scores and I didn't want to just dilute really quick and see some of the cut scores what is considered to be married at 5 the stage so it is for chronic absenteeism 20% or higher so that and it shows you some of the struggles that our students had during the first opening year we are the ability to injector check out our chronic absenteeism is going so far this year because this is last year and last year was the year full of what was full covid Pacific and what is just kind of long-term lingering problems that we need to work on some information systems that we use so we can get that information compute pandemic future so yes we definitely can do that we just want to keep in mind that we are just solely looking at this this year and try not to compare anything so that we can move forward with what 200 students have experience and we did bring up the point that this date is not it's not very recent and so we do need to look at some more recent data as well but right now so you know you could say it was on track to be are we on track to have fewer students are chronically absent are we on track to have the same number of students are chronically absent as well as work involved with PTI working with where's monitoring systems that house and she just packed up all our students who need help are getting it and so yeah that's the part of our our theory of action as well I appreciate that comment Center Garner I see that native Hawaiian or Pacific calendar have alarming numbers and at the same time are a small subgroup so it's does that explain why they aren't absolutely associated with differentiated assistance right I do know that smaller groups of students if there's a smaller stubs group of students that the percentage will be higher based on you know how many students are experiencing whatever indicator were talking about so this will you have 14 Native American native Hawaiians of Pacific Islanders and 5 to have experienced chronic absenteeism. Definitely impacts the percentage for that particular group but they clearly are above the cut or below the cut whatever about her below but you know what I mean because the students with disabilities are 24.1 so is the fact that it's a small body and and the second question is because we're getting differentiated assistance can we be assured that the interventions that support her on how students and students with disabilities will also be supporting our native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander students thank you for that comment we are going to go over while we qualify for differentiated assist later on in the presentation and that will probably help Enlighten us on to the reason why which groups of Columbine all right these this is another indicator obviously of our academic engagement it's our graduation rates I'm we can see that out of our number of graduates of 584 97% graduated for African-American students 95 of our students and 95% of our students graduate at a 95 didn't they were to be five graduates 96% graduation rate for English Learners there were 28 students 96% graduated or are Latino Hispanic students 101 graduates 96% weighted bar students experiencing homelessness 16 94% graduated or associate when there's a small group of students obviously don't do the percentage so just just make a note so we can get that information for you as of if you request it or socioeconomic disadvantage 305 and 95% of them graduated for students with disabilities they were 56th and 91% graduated I think was 91.9 switch 92% we do name for a hundred percent but that 92% we will keep an eye on him for two or more races 50 reported at 100% to graduated and more are white students 170 and 97% graduated so those are those are those are numbers that we can look at him and be proud of but we definitely will keep an eye on the guy obviously that we just talked about between our highest performing student groups and our student groups that might be struggling or having lower graduation rates would definitely going to concentrate on that I do that I'm going to go ahead and turn over to dr. Ray and so we just got our pensions and our different subgroups call Ariel 1% unless the Way I Am by all standards is a is a very low assessment number we can suspension training school no more. If it's best to be engaged PBIS and different practices as well as allows for a dryer air suspension rates as as a different group and although I do see each subgroup maybe between 0.32 and 1.0 many more so with that we do we can work with continue to have those pallets of course in the new services to help Medicaid and drop the lower and as we discussed with our highlighted area which is 107.84 again and I'll give you your trip into what we've been discussing further with different than burying issues homes knows where I'd submit your range is maybe a little higher how many of the students who may who may be a silk I guess you also maybe when you get to being a start or star student with in that situation so that might lead to the number being alone 84 Lumber bring it down to your lower earlier where are the attributes of possibly and as well as the state of California weather housing issues and things like that is never being a little hard and been most but overall having a major race for bracket is Scooby-Doo this assessment in how do you turn this to keep me encouraged in our school since you've been a good word with Lawrence numbers that's in the area can I get a highlighted in yellow so this is where we're going to work in a house mean so the dashboard was publicly released on December 15th of 2020 to December 19th we learned of consequence there are. It's a quick and for a long long time ago for those of you who've been around for a while as of my 28 year it was called program and prevent another line so in the criteria for two or more lcff priorities priorities which are listed in the schematic and we'll go we'll go through our differentiated assistance so we have two student groups attention to a few student groups that are not that have opportunity gaps that are not where we want them to be but if particular focus in terms of this presentation and differentiated assistants are our students who are categorizes homeless to use which is 1.5% of our total student body which is a total of 107 students and students with disabilities which is 10% of our total student population which is 691 total students and then if we at the state priority of which which we need to make sure that we are where they where the students did not meet the standard of requirement is in pupil achievement School climate people engagement so for looking across at homeless youth in terms of pass students in English language arts for -86 points in terms of distance from standard and in math were - 123 in those passing grade students there's a different number so I know but it's complicated and when we're talking about those I don't want you to see different numbers in different places we spotted them out and then in terms of school climate conditions and climate we went over that slide you saw the yellow or suspension rate for students who are homeless is 8.4 which and can we have a total of 100 and students that would be in that certain group of people engagement which remembers just the K-8 is 54 students and our chronic absenteeism is 43% and we just have a few more slides I asked about the numbers from Aunt I should have asked on a previous slide for you so can you explain around and duplication and duplicated means and what would happen if a student fell into two or more of the degrees on a previous panda is is a difference at 4 would be low income the state categorize is it English for English Learners and Foster youth so those are those are the categories and so if a student falls in in more than one they they can only be counted w in this case so on the previous page but I'm sure there are students who fall into more than one of the categories identified there where do they show up how do we conceptualize that that is as a great question and we can get back to you about the specifics that is in the technical guide we can thank you are when we're looking at are state or local in Decatur and we talked about the suspension rate for homeless students so when we talked about low-income a homeless is kind of subsumed under that and we talked about The Chronic absenteeism which is 40% and then we look at those students G dance with disabilities we have pupil achievement and people engagement or where students did not meet and Castiel a is -76 and I'm just as from standard math wasn't 100 11 and then in terms of chronic absenteeism is 24% 1/8 which is 115 students so we're going to now go to the next slide if that's okay I'm in terms of the letter receipt from Waco on December 19th it said this is said we're contacting you to provide background and update and to explain what you can expect from like telling the upcoming weeks in months Lego will be our technical assistance provider we have within within the district office we have experience with this kind of support this type of work how many years did program improvement work so we are already jumping into all of this and LA county has 80 school districts and 75% of those school districts have now entered differentiated assistance so formally we will seed when we are invited to the United meeting and given the county Ramblers but we're going to begin developing that plan and working with all of our colleagues to move this forward so if we could go to the neck dr. Garner also I'm a big fan of continuous Improvement because they dad drives it so this is what am I A Little Wheel houses but so the continuous Improvement I wish I could Direction the vision of what we want to do and what we want to students can learn it in our problem practice is nearing that achievement got or the opportunity got that we saw on the previous slides we will assess the needs as we're currently doing now we're go create a strategic plan to make sure our students are are being successful with the plan that we said if not. Just it so we're going to measure the effectiveness at all levels of the system School in classroom analyzes them structured data and practices through the lens of the MPS at home equity Frameworks action research on inclusion and teaching for equity when identify problems in practice and we're going to conduct root cause analysis somewhat of an action research progress monitoring a more normalized system we are working on that right now we've already talked to RTL news about the vision of where we want to be and they are very much enthusiasm about doing this work as well as our ncsss they know that we want to see a continuous improvement improvement structure fact I'm through our school so that we can monitor in real-time the date of that we have right now our students are dealing with that I will take it so as we as we are fairly new team and Educational Services the first thing that we had to do was establish our continuous Improvement model and traitor theory of action so if you want to go we did that and we've worked through it terms of his continuous Improvement model because as you all know a series of actions are recurrent it's a curse that process you're always were signing and redeveloping and so with that and that in mind we assess needs on preliminary data and where we needed to move forward we did that strategic plan being that theory of action we have began implementing it in our in our different professional development working with the expense add services in ketosis to work at full site and then adjusting as needed to make sure that we're doing the things that we need to do and let me share some of those specifically with you so our services around our problem of practice my calendar practice is soon as families and Educators need a clear understanding of how we are narrowing the opportunity Gap and Ed's in Educational Services in order to improve student outcomes as evidenced by our district data I need assessment was conducted to analyze the trend data we detail it and the S Services theory of action specifically at Services is developing a cohesive articulated program map which are also known as the hurricane that's what you heard about earlier day of the good work love I noticed doing so we can and that work is is we got that work going on everywhere everybody's working 2 to begin that process and a Matic our best practices and resources to come up with that live the bees are our signature practices these are the best practices that if we do them Patty says their research face and they make they make movement for kids right. That's that's what we need to do and so we are looking at development of individualized learning plans are Isle keys for African American black students and then other student groups as you've learned about tonight and then presentation and were you think he'll seize as a part of the continuous Improvement best chicken plate that day to reduce cycle after we do a screen or or an assessment we look at our student data and our plc's our focus and aligned to improve student learning outcomes ultimately we focus on improving student data our students will be guaranteed a standards-aligned Bible curriculum implementing implementing this will be College and Career prepared as we move through this continuous Improvement cycle we use our mtss teams and we make sure that our progress monitoring tells us where students are today so we can project out where they'll be tomorrow and we know what they need in the inter so it is it is always a pleasure and a delight to work with it the division of d i as they're moving their work through with Barry AC you talk about African-American black student achievement to so talk about an African American black students are working in tandem to crazy's individualized learning plans for the student groups and we are making sure that Well site leaders have the support that they need as the GI division of student Family Support Services already support that start start processing terms of attendance but they're also creating an attendance Improvement plan as it was one of our air is work on and as you heard earlier suspension data is being desegregated by student group there's a presentation for principles and admin and then the thread will go through the rest of our partner groups on January 26th by GI and Family Support Services subsequently that information as it goes through will go to EAC and other partner groups as well we thank you for your time and we open the floor your questions board members I would like to First since all of us had a chance to ask questions questions for us again thank you so much we're going to try to stay awake anybody who would like to provide public comment on Zoom or in person please are now closing public comment thank you very much questions from our board and we'll start with Isadora inside what's a slide where we were looking at the graduation rates from all of the respective States and I'm wondering if it's possible at some point to see these numbers right next to the person that we're at 8:30 Alan the boss but you have that right now but I can ask what that looks like what that was that's a little different is to Vernon secondary that's a great question I like to know if you have any information to share that would look like that will the Dai Division and Family Support Services is working on that so I know they'll be excited to put information in the Friday memo for you and last the other question about suspension rates positively for on how students I was seeing 8.4% out of 179 students and I'm wondering are we contributing to that an excellent question likely win that would be a logical hypothesis when the group desegregated the date of that could be a possibility so they will be able to report out about what you want to talk about please come to the to the mind what can you restate the question what percent out of 107 students so that's a nine students and I'm wondering if only applies to K through 8 and mugs of the suspension that you're looking at is high school so it may apply to the few students that were in middle school but it does the absenteeism isn't part of the indicator not for high school students middle school students suspension and see how that is tied to we are seeing the same Trends in high school if I may just want for the definition purpose to Katie kronick absenteeism definition is that the students are gone from school 18 or more days out of the Year regardless of me so if you happen to have an 8th grader and we suspended that child and that's why I have to be a homeless student and we send them home for 5 days those days are counted as part of The Chronic absenteeism definition to say has a change that definition sins set up many years ago so I believe it's still the same way so yes sometime about home action is causing our own grease and not realizing it is just a a highly vulnerable population and not realizing that the child is in his that a traitor is a a child who's 6 Rings homelessness and to be able to do anything. they're working on their plan so if you're going to hear from Dai regarding attendance and the attacker gated suspension data so we have a lot of intersectionality and represent on the dashboard and they're doing teamwork and it just happened to be a lovely coincidence that direct them up this is here and jumped up thank you one of the six questions that I injected we can talk about this later but one of the questions that came up in my mind as you were speaking to the graduation way was the last year was the year of a B104 Corral so I guess so in that year you know we had the CD said that we could be relaxed our or that we should be able to access our guidelines for graduation but I also am looking at it for you know that are Democrats are our student groups that do have the greater need and it does follow the same patterns and you know for for me I don't also want to consider whether or not they are student retention and are these students repeating or are they dropping out or are they finding a different Pathway to The Graduate diploma because I mean if it's later on that we find out what we need in order to succeed in life then I mean that's it's not always that it's graduation that is a requirement in that year we are that we are creating that we are helping students become ready for their future so I also want to hear a little bit more about I want a second what dr. Katz said about you know how we're looking at duplicated on a assistant see that data and also when we when I love how we're talking about what are those I would also like to understand what if you could also set up I love how the expectations of being set up but I also must eat here about goalposts and dates and that sort of thing so you know and why and if those goal posts are probably looking at it now or but you know to mr. Guerreros point we should be looking at the data that we already have passed past West Spring and Easter and coming up because now that we know we need to immediately interrupt what is what is happening if if we can't save it the idea that mr. Isadora is saying that we are being double counted and you know this is a pattern it's okay that we are being called out on The Chronic absenteeism cuz it's it's because of the suspension if no two related things then let's let's make sure that we are you know keeping that in mind that when we're finding solutions to all of this so so I look forward to hearing more about about these questions thank you it was a pleasure to hear from you both in addition to dr. It's not intentional I know people are asking about. Georgie and I understand that the dashboard using language around College and Career Readiness the where is that so it's not ready to report that yet and so likely will go live soon and then we'll try our best to get see you as soon as possible and turns her presentation we can do an internal poll it takes a bit of time cuz it has to be manually sort it so that's why I wasn't able to get to that question right today we were able to get through some other some other items just need a week and I've been recording the typing the questions that you all have been asking so hopefully we can get most of that to you on Friday mama was quick to see if we can actually maybe I should back up for a moment and moment and say I do want to acknowledge that it was not this presentation that I fully understood that this is our first look at the work is to be presented and committees will need to be sure we're sitting in those rooms too and I think I want us to get in the habit of talking about committees and Friday reports Friday my most because I don't want the public to think that the board is privy to a whole bunch of information that the community is not and so I just want to make sure that we're saying are not these plans as they're being developed to be presented and committees Casey on top at the end of our presentation because we we excited to share this and and it is a part of who we are we're looking at student achievement are there other committees I didn't name where where we'll be seeing these attendants Plans by LP plans. We work at wework Susie lag we presented a cursory dashboard presentation focus on English Learners with you like this morning we met with him at 9 so those are our big  El Cap pack and also we need to resent this a two six pack and to make where are our families that works for that she meant for students with disabilities have access to this information as well and that will be subsumed under the inclusion plan likely as we saw in that each school is having the same effect tonight that's true at this level and as we as we mentioned that school date is going to be that will be through the mechanism of School site Council cuz they do data Dives on their data so so the community call the school and then they can write this type of data for each School site not just a does a hole and in service is traditionally does so I'm at we give that to the school sites and they use it with their School site Council that use it in their plc's and it's a part of their regular progress monitoring smart goals I heard you say January 26th as a date went when do you expect these games to be working on their data and working on their ilt is in attendance plans right now the 26th is a date that said dr. Smith I've got to go back to my house I'm sorry it is close to 10 so I'm kind of lost that thought on the 6th they're going to on the 26th the team is going to the principles and yes I can set up a meeting with the principal outside of the prefix is b r i n n relieving conversation delving into that suspension data and what else what else on the 26th. that's what we're working on in terms of we got the antennas looking at suspension de 20 that's what is is primarily suspension because questions about what can you suspend 4 we suspend when should we suspend between to clarify our vision and view of that in light of the data but in light of our cultural climate and engaging the black just because of the how are we interacting with our children what are we support that we offering what is the mental health status what is their social emotional needs we have to figure that out his will will get some of the info when we're talking about fighting will get some of that coming out when we get our survey results and strategic telling me to put you on the spot there but I knew you had it when when will the county be here and with whom are they interacting if you're busy right now so we're going to begin all of the work and they will be interacting with a team so it's generally a vertical team of educators of course it includes assistance to Middleton principles system educator Simpson black lace and classroom teachers so we can do that deep work of root cause analysis and create at the areas of action so we'll be able to we're going to begin that plan so we can have that permission to Lako so the aisle cheese that you refer to these are individualized learning plans for the subgroups and you name African American black students hotels which are long-term English Learners are and how students are students with disabilities individual learning plan is regarding an individual student or an individual subgroup of every student by name and so working through this allowed if we in a mechanism that supports our Educators as we as we as we move this work forward it's going to be a piece that really will spell out what is need in order to be successful when in my form of work when we've created those I've seen huge gains and so we need to move this forward and we're lucky we have a lot of we have colleagues and as a sentence of educational services at the school sites you can assist us in this work okay so it's going to happen at the site level so it will still be supporting to make sure that yeah that's a question cuz I know that we're still I mean I know there still a professional development have an x on the structure and format and effectiveness of PLC is never mind the nature of the detailed work that they're doing so I just I hope that we can be on I don't want us to come out with i l p is that are really strong for a whole site and Lester on for another site just by nature of ignoring the fact that the PLC itself was an area of growth when you take out when you go outside to go fast so we're going to have to make sure it's been well and then we will support that work that's a really good question about an attendance plan for the high school and that the data was not looked at by the state what is the data can you tell us being on a gas into using numbers for the Xbox that and I we can share thank you please and I do hope it'll come and go through Friday report as well as that committee committee meeting and those are my questions for now thank you so much for this little angel thank you very much dr. Baxter dr. granted us to dr. Rice I really appreciate that the presentation I appreciate the addition sensor went out the emphasis on on student groups because our overall averages great and that's fantastic and we can celebrate that and be proud of that but it really obscures the differences between some students achievement experience is so thank you very much for that my concern with is always the execution of the plants and so with this I think I think all of these problems that existed for a while to do we tried things in the asked to work on them to make success sometimes it's been proven sometimes they're there has it but I think the opportunity are eligibility for a differentiated assistant I think really highlights our need to get this done I meant so I would really like the bullets that you've identified in your continuous Improvement cycle I would like updates on those bullets so where it goes through and it says will measure the effectiveness of all levels I'd like to know maybe not the next meeting but in a month what are we done to measure the effect of this Analyze This destruction all right in a month what are we done in a classroom Insight little action research all right for now what have we done what problems have we identified what route have we identified just going through every one of those I mean I know it's a lot of work but I almost have envisioned a spreadsheet with nine columns you know and to be able to come back in in a month and see what's happened in each of these areas and maybe it's not yet because the other day but I want to see you in all of these areas what are we accomplishing and how are we moving for it because you can write down to figure out what the root cause is our buddy ever do we ever get to that and do we ever figure out what the root causes are and so I don't know if it's a really do an update to the school board at one of our meetings probably you know maybe in the Friday reports maybe the committee's so the public can see this but I definitely want to be the rest of the first Congress in all of these areas that that your team is identified and how would I particularly with our on how students and students with disabilities because those are the two student groups that were flags are differentiated assistance the performances of African-American students of Latino students English Learners of low-income students none of those are where they need to be and so all of those to extend although in the underlying highlight it is disability and pads because that's what state is on go ahead I like to close it up you're going to pick me up so I I also wanted to take this opportunity to remark on how we old items 10.4 and it's just a really appropriate it would have been a really appropriate follow-up to item 10.3 under ideal circumstances it was not ready and so it was it was variety of reasons but I don't want to miss the opportunity to like really implore that we not lose time just because we pulled that resolution tonight you know that I've been on the AC since the beginning and I've seen all the years that the equity advisory Council has been putting in an infant circular just in the last year alone black parents and Guardians have been reaching out asking for building a council to do achievement plan modeled after Santa monica-malibu in LAUSD at least a year and then I'm probably under estimating and so I just want to be absolutely positive that we are still as of yesterday or tomorrow being those families that are ready and have volunteered their time to be on a council to draft of Culver City Center black student achievement plan and I know that the work on all of the other identified group is also happening but we have families that are ready to go that have any credible academic expertise and professional experience that will lend itself to like this this plan will will you said the word magic before I mean these people have such Authority in this matter or not not to mention their love to experience that they're really posed to just whip it out and and then that it with the community and get the dock and so I just want the absolutely positive that we don't lose time on getting action-oriented documents that this board approved the fall of next year and that we are approving something this spring specifically for black students that will be implemented. that's what I really want to make sure Poppins yes but we have definitely made a note of that and it is a passion project the board members to like make your questions American size to the point because I I'm still recovering and I'm sure I see a lot of yawning in the audience 21 questions as a door and then Laredo I want to + 6 + 1 on that with dr. Kent but also there's a d a c meeting on Thursday I'm hoping that you or one of your colleagues can be at the AC meeting to address those members concerns and because you know this directly affects those those their students thank you is going back in the end I know that. My colleague dr. Ken had already bought him we can talk the other bodies by really want to double and triple down on the need or a black student achievement plan yesterday the need for a black parent Council yesterday so I just want to make sure that again losing time but also that we are clear eyes and focus that this is something that this body believes that the district needs and that we are working every single day to make sure that we're getting there. may I be permitted to operate two observations we were one of the very few districts to actually begin this conversation at the board level not the one and only but the one who may need to come about breaking down on data and then start looking at way to face the reality and and and begin to dig us out from the whole lot of sun post-pandemic I guess Making graduation 88 before 5 for my Academy in 25 from the high school I'm done reading it wrong it's about 25 + 5 30 students and so we're looking at the flexibility to allow pretty students the chance to graduate from from high school with a diploma piggybacking on that is you know does when we're graduating students before their meeting our own standards and it doesn't even have to do with the E through G standards to which we remember Isadora was talking about earlier about we want to see whether or not there if you don't call it for your college ready or or what but you know it's more like what are we doing like for them if we are pushing them to graduate versus is student retention or A Five-Year Plan you know what are the outcomes that our students are getting when we are kind of pushing them out are they not even ready for a 2-year College what what are the choices and you know end in other states and they're taking them more prepared for a 4-year or even. whatever their next step is so I don't want I am not a believer that you know the lasting the guidelines it's always the best thing for every student and the two we need give that that for some of my questions are more so how far they are from meeting to meeting these requirements or is it also something else that we were would that we failed it helping them along the way like what where where are we seeing a pattern if it's any and that's really where I need to under and like where we follow following short and we're at what point did we figure this out was it just now because now what they're looking at graduation or was this already identified last year and where did we not will when will we not able to provide summer school credits and all of that and so I would like to hear more about that and I don't know if you're prepared to answer some of those things I could breathe interesting. Our conversation without sight of our high school leadership the students returned to full in person in August 2021 so that's a year-and-a-half ago and the school but in Multan support structure is to help the students to be able to graduate without any modification at all hours of service hours down to 20 because the lack of opportunity to live in a time when everything was shutting down as we moving through that here it is evidence that the impact on the pandemic was more severe for some than others so angry do none of those students like I said I'm beginning 88 was falling behind but then  catching up with this to about 25 that would not be able to catch up with out this last flexibility that we put in place so it is to the board decision tonight is that if we would to send them on to a 50-year into an adult school program that is that is what we say sing or we giving them this and allow them to find a diploma and move on from it is a choice because we did try to to support from 88 down to 25 but we would like to acknowledge that we don't know that the death of the impact of append emic and maybe this is something that morally we should so for one thing point of order it is now this is where this is coming from to give them the best outcome in the best opportunity that we can so just because it's just those anecdotal pieces that and we've been collecting as we ask the questions that you got and how many was was that did you did you say that you might not have said on my list to call were 8 today last year I'm not specifically at what point in the year were they given options was it like January 4th of June graduation the original timing of this particular resolution was actually in early early November we were hoping to bring this toward the due to a write a will be struggling without any modification to the graduation requirements and so their will as we moving forward still Saturday the support that nothing but a baby some students slowly peeling off have credit recovery which you know which everyone is calling a celebrated learning so that students can recapture credits and that's the conversation we're going to continue to have and share information with the Board of Education about it's just it's just Beast these Thirty children are what keeps me up at night so here's what I want it cost $8,768 to go to Santa Monica College for one year I want to pass this item and I want us to pay those 30 students $260,000 to go to two years of Community College that's what I want us to do I want to pay them two years of Community College I want I want to ask not to come back I think that we failed them and that we owe them the two years of Community College that they need to go on again next week so I will I will be voting in shape for this item can I look at this as flexibility that the state has granted us given covid cool that they're making available to us it doesn't mean we have to applied to all students on just those who in our case it's cool that we would be potentially passing on to our high school, Dave made a determination they looked at 88 years and decided that for most of those kids just wasn't appropriate but as far as a subset of them it was so I think it's totally appropriate to do and if we're not doing it were effectively with holding the ball most of these 25 kids because we want them to go to a if your school that seems appropriate accordingly High School staff for the majority of them and they're figuring out ways to do that for this 25 it doesn't seem appropriate and as mist and pointed out trying to go on we don't know that these 25 students will stay in school we don't know that these twenty-five students are interested in a 50-year you know and so what we're doing is withholding diplomas from them because we want and a follow-up particular path we're making please pass available to we're supporting them and whichever path But ultimately denying a group of students diplomas that are state recognized and state approved to the requirements does them more disservice than anything else because when you don't have that diploma your choices are very limited and so it's a tool that I think we should make a able to our high school to use and make available to the students going to we can talk about some type of post-graduation support that we can continue offering students but yeah I think it's fine anybody else clarification so my understanding is California offers to breed years of Community College so are you staying on top of that maybe I want us to talk about it I don't want us to wash your hands so you know whatever whatever conversation this board is going and I want to have it I think we owe them more than just reducing the expectations and so you know me do an interview with least 30 students I believe it's 30 students right total can we do an interview with the 30 students and see what is it that they are planning to do with this graduation diploma we did last year we created this virus created these plans for kiddos in the counselor's the assistant principals and provided explained all of the options happened and made sure that we were at we were there as the safety that I am just to be blunt it's our fault we managed to meet the needs of 65 66 out of 88 but we can't please the bulk of those credit that is missing by these 25 I said their choice I'm not comfortable saying that because we don't know to what degree that pandemic hitting the students were asked Americans who are Latino who are living in poverty I don't know to what degree we can say you should have kissed boys have up by your bootstraps support does but this year but this year I'm arguing that instead of justice for Mercy give him a chance don't have any way of saying You must make something with the diploma week ranching you otherwise you won't get it I'm just saying at this point the school have done all they could have done maybe they could have done more for their we are 25 not having a diploma it's a joke, it's your you're out of this point I would make this statement in every which way we can so that the class of 2024 will not come back with yet another group not making the grade we going to build that in and the awareness and the grace the boys spending as soon as I'm hoping the grace that the Borg Mendes tonight translate that into the commitment of 2024 graduation class will not be facing the same smuggled that we looking at right now search for me a year with dr. chant is staying and what would I would support is an interview with each of these students who will go into this lower graduation ice what is their career path because maybe they want to go to a coding bootcamp oh no you didn't say there was a few doing well right did you say
