Board Member
Term of Office: 12/1/18 - 11/30/22 

Summer McBride had the privilege of being appointed to the Culver City Board of Education in March 2017 and then elected for a full term in November 2018. She has served on the El Rincon Elementary and Culver City Middle School PTA Boards and School Site Council; the Culver City Council of PTAs Executive Board; CCUSD’s Inclusion, Respect, and Diversity Task Force, now known as the Equity Advisory Council; the Environmental Sustainability Food Services subcommittee, and successfully completed the California School Board Association Masters in Governance program. She attended Loyola Marymount University and worked in the LMU School of Education in the Department of Language and Culture as well as the Student Success Center supporting student teachers. Summer is a certified parenting instructor and trained facilitator of Centering Pregnancy (group prenatal care) at the Charles Drew University/Black Maternal Health Center of Excellence. She also serves as faculty for iDREAM for Racial Health Equity and as a co-chair on the LA County African American Infant and Maternal Mortality Community Action Team. Summer had the honor of being appointed to the Los Angeles County Commission for the Department of Public Social Services in 2021. She has a BA in Social Psychology from Southern New Hampshire University. Her advocacy and interests converge at the intersection of health and educational equity and justice.


With five children in the district, Summer has a vested interest in making our schools the very best they can be and believes an exceptional public school education is not a privilege but a right for every student. CCUSD must value diversity and strive to provide all scholars with the tools needed to thrive regardless of their circumstances. She is committed to working closely with all our valued stakeholders to do her part in supporting this endeavor. Her goal is to equitably represent the interests of the community while advocating for each member of our CCUSD family to ensure that we stay the course as a progressive and inclusive district whose goal is responsible stewardship and exemplary leadership.
