and the bodies plans to meet to potentially take action that affect the district's a public recognition is a really important part of that but when we're at a reading around trying to do our very best to hear from the public and get the business of the board it is governed by a board policy and we are constantly working on our policy so we are eager to hear feedback on whether or not you feel it's working and thank you for doing that tonight I did also attend to meetings that I want to express some gratitude around 1 was the most recent strategic Arts planning task force meeting and it's always a pleasure to see this this District continue to grow in its commitment to our lives but also a master plan a master plan around Arts because that. 30,000 ft level is just really it's exactly why we are getting better every year and serving more and more students and meeting their needs when it comes to our every year I also attended the elementary special education subcommittee which is a subcommittee composed of staff and administrators around meeting the needs of students with disabilities I'm from the perspective of meeting the needs of the staff serve the students with disabilities and figuring out what they need to better support those students and it's always a pleasure to be a fly on that wall so I just want to Express gratitude to to our HR department as well as the staff that allow me to and those meetings and then I will finish by expressing immense immense many many thank yous and congratulations to all of our certificated and classified site employees of the year I've had the immense privilege of experiencing your expert is personally and I continue to observe your professional commitment and growth with all and pride and I find an additional congratulations to doctor Spano for being a quarter finalist for the music educator Grammy Award and for continuing to serve our students so well and forgetting well-deserved recognition for that Excellence thank you board member loaded thank you I also want to reiterate how thankful I am to our teachers and classified employees and all of our stuff that take the care for our students to every and to congratulate the winners for for our sites that were recognized today and also wanted to congratulate the high school basketball team again and Middle School lacrosse team you know the the basketball team has gotten so much better and there's so many great winds. I'll we need to celebrate it and when I look back on the bcms lacrosse team we nearly didn't have a season because there was no coach up until the last minute so I think it's wonderful that we were able to stick with flying looking for the person to fill that position and did not cancel it as if they thought that they should because they they won their first League Championship in the history of the program I before I go further I'd also want to say happy birthday to board president Zola and also wanted to just a given immense thank you and gratitude to those that supported the cchs Asian American native Hawaiian Pacific Islander parent affinity group Heritage Month event at Village along with Asian cultural looking in where we hosted former California assemblyman Warren fear tiny who is also the author of memoir activist and how proud I am of our students who led by showcasing social justice and advocacy themed art and participating on a student had all asking our author amazing questions then I continue to be inspired by her student voice is and lead by their needs and and and their voices I'm especially looking forward to celebrating with us celebrating our seniors over the next coming weeks are particularly excited about the Affinity celebrations for graduation I know that so many of you are still testing or will be testing and I'm sending you positive thoughts and and looking forward to celebrating all of you thank you I also want to start by just congratulating everyone who came here today I'm happy to see the president on her birthday if she's left wait for me I don't know where he's at all forward thank you I would like to start off by clearing because a couple of our later public comments dealt with the comments unfortunate and disgusting comments made fight somebody at one of the schools that was originally brought to our attention by one of the early colors in the evening about the Holocaust and disparaging the Holocaust and disparaging the memory of that and end in NFL in general I do want to clarify that as far as the original comment was that was a substitute teacher which doesn't make it okay in any way but I just want to keep that as far as possible from our amazing teachers that that is not supposedly coming from our teachers but mr. Tran and dr. Baxter I'm assuming you've already looked into that and the investigation has already begun and that person won't be back hopefully ever but until a thorough investigation is completed thank you I'm at what Kasich over last weekend that was fantastic thank you very much to the Culver City Education Foundation and all of the organizers all of the sponsors for the good work you a student was all just a lot of fun but really a good cause and really helps us do a lot of fantastic things their students so thank you for that and thank you for everybody who participated in that also mister rosenzweig mentioned early on the district not mentioning Asian-American Pacific Islander Heritage Month in and Judas haired Jewish heritage month and unfortunately that's one of the things about being a board member is our comments don't read time until 10 so everybody gets to come in and what we didn't say before we have a chance to say it so I do have it in my notes in and just do one kind of shout out to the Asian-American Pacific Islander and native Hawaiian Heritage Month Jewish Heritage Month also labor History Month mental health awareness week is is around a Harvey Milk Day is coming up in a couple of weeks you know met is a full of recognition time temperature is it is ideally a time when we should be teaching all of our students and all of our adults about the contributions that different folks Asian Americans Pacific Islanders Jewish Americans and Jews worldwide have contributed do our society not just Jewish issue for Jewish students are Asian American history for it for Asian-American but something so everybody can appreciate the contributions and you know start to understand each other better because we're School and that that's what we do so definitely should be focusing on those as we come up I also wanted to Mark a couple of things it is teacher appreciation week Wednesday specifically is California day of the teacher comes from the Latin American tradition of Dia del Maestro quite different than the national always confusing because some of them start last week and some of them start this week we've got classified appreciation week coming up in a couple of weeks. School nurses is I think Wednesday also speech and language pathologist coming up cafeteria Heroes was with a couple of days ago so again May has a busy month in recognition it's a great time to stop and recognize the folks that we don't recognize every day but we really should be recognizing the contributions of everybody in the classroom and everybody out of the classroom every single day because again you build this we wouldn't be able to do this without you so thank you to everybody thank you I am I think now I can go and I'm not going to be keep anything that my passport members have said other than I agree that we have a lot to celebrate in this month of May and I keep on telling my fellow board members there's no better place we're just your birthday been at a board meeting I like today with lots of input and the community showing their love for our student showing their love for our teachers showing their love for arthritis community and so I'm really grateful to each and every person that provide a public comment today on my birthday and I definitely I would like to say because most of my birthday have also launched a fundraising campaign I was made aware that sent the friends of Sandy seagull we're moving their services or their fundraising activities to at foundation and I thought it would be a great opportunity to launch this campaign and hopefully raise some money for our Sandy seagull Youth Center on is month of mental health awareness and and so I encourage everyone who would like to donate to please go to the Friends of the Sandy seagull website or if you follow an Instagram or Facebook you can also find link there to make your donation no amount is small it's the thought in the action that is important awesome thank you so much and I the only thing I want to mention is that at today I attended the PTA appreciation breakfast and I want I am eternally grateful for all the principles and PTA presidents and vice presidents who attended and those who cannot make it I'm eternally grateful mr. Tran said it very eloquently that they are are the people that keep the they're the glue that keeps the puzzle together and I want to remind everybody that we were we're we're not out of the clear of the pen. we're still putting the pieces together and the community and our students and our staff and our teachers are all coming back together piece peace and our leadership is trying their best to keep us all glued together so that we can continue moving forward and and having students who who can Thrive through obstacles and anything that comes their way and also create those big dreams and big goals so that they can accomplish them in and have a life that is full of meaning full of joy with purpose because that's really why we're here we're here to help our students get there and so with that I'd like to end and say thank you to every single person who who shows up every morning and and does a we may need to do to help our students thank you she's moving us into consent agenda 9.1 and we'll start with 9.2 minutes on regular meeting March 14th can I get a motion under consent agenda we have nine point 29439 49.5 9.6 does any board member one a pool any of these items biking giving up the chance if they wanted. take me to Porsche 934 and 5 I will move to approve items 9.2 + 9.6 I'll take him all of them by oh I'm sorry purpose is the time where I say how many thank you I was waiting for you to say 93 then I was just as the point where I tell you how many comments we had a 93 3 purchase order Clerk tell me how many we have for public comments on 93 and the order is as a dark antler I do get it at all and I move it move the first started first yes please let's have scratches who would like to start no I would assume you work it will start the whole day this today everybody gets a first aid kit and a darker color are public radio page one desire in El Marino ballot language 14 projectors 13000 + 700 can we just get a little bit more information on that and it's only asking because I need my general rules about 10 grand at I'd like to hear and I think the public would like to hear a little bit more about it do we have any idea on this is just replacing their overhead projector in the classroom I'm going to share the D the information we received is that the school had decided to replace the the exhibit I don't have no idea what models I don't have any sense of how old the existing equipment it was proposing adopted as part of the the School site Council approval list I could reach out for more information if that's needed and report back in the Friday memo what again I know where between Chief business officer now but I do think that best practice of you know the staff kind of spots to the bigger purchases in and he's ready to share a little bit about those in advance and once we've got that that position filled the next Wendy's is spayed this morning. subscriptions for 20,000 can we get here a little bit about more with that is yes that is a support for the 80 devices that some students use to communicate next one off on page one is 180000 open PO for Brookwood is this a new contract or is this the same contract that we've been talking about the last 6 months just kind of in the pios right now Amtrak weed to prove the board approved a Brookwood contract $480,000 back in November 2022 and this is the PO the seven side of money as the consultant working in the day sending us the invoice this is the same amount in from the same contract and is an open po it is not a single check for 180000 it is up to 180,000 and we pay as we use not to exceed and and that's need it thank you to there was just something about another one I meant I'm only asking because it's large there's a measure K one that says purchase of tables do you know anything about that one I don't know enough to comment on this I need to find out I did recall the conversation about using replacing table for lunch area but I need to verify that for sure I don't know that so forgive me but I need to double back and check on that one. Rexer sure I was looking to verify what what site that was for but we can get back to you on that I just I'm wondering can you tell me what school side it is cuz I'm trying to just exercise purchasing doesn't a School site which is one of the reasons I was on but okay thank you page for there's a security contract for Personnel Services for $540,000 is that a new contract or is that another it doesn't say open po let let me find that that line item first you can page 3 4 halfway down the page for 2823 it's what ages does the amount looks familiar to what we have set up at way back at the beginning of the contract but if this could be a continuation of a new contract that needed to cover the hours that would be charged to us the end of the school year but again this is something I expect you at the amount of hours that the company is charging us month-to-month but I do need to find out exactly what this is to cover the contract security workers who are serving the middle high school and I don't have the information that I want to speculate on this one okay. Like the other one but particularly if this is a renewal of the contract I would not be wanting to see that in content and purchase orders I think that would be something that the board would want to consider giving our experiences with a gist in the past I will Concur and and I will make sure that we pull that next time let me know this is not a one check thing it is as needed and not to exceed and then also I'm page for there is in somebody mention this when there's an OCD overpayment recovery of 152000 hi board member Guerrero so that is actually a refund for to the state for not meeting the contract last year the state paid in advance and this is what we were overpaid can you go a little bit more into not meeting the contract it was I could get back to you on that cuz I'm trying to I mean I know it's fairly standard in case through 12 for us to estimate our attendance and then they adjust the amount a little higher little lower at the end of the year based on what are attendance actually was and so I don't know if it's phone that we gave them during covid-19 are fine fine I can clarify and find out for all of you if I could see this as a kind of a background statement would kind of substitute into said that the expertise that Mr Quince group had prepare all of this so are we going to find out we just need more time to look into it I don't have these contracts and things at the top of my head I appreciate that but I also this item is before us to vote on and if the choice of the superintendent was to fill in for the business office rather than yeah I would definitely like to hear more about is overpayment was in there it's just kind of bad Advanced kind of thing over there at the scene to be a transfer between our account as soon as you get payment back to the TV but I would definitely like to hear more about that one too please thank you filter on my questions okay at this point anybody else have anything okay question for director gurgi cuz I'm texting her but it could be a bit cryptic so is the question what exactly was the refund for in the PO could you assist us with specific information that's it thank you for joining us tonight so this is totally it is about enrollment. they paid us in advance for X number of enrollment we had x- so many kids and so we had to repay the difference okay I just want to make that clear rather than not too filling some other type of table nation that we had it's just a question of enrollment and our enrollment was a little bit lower than expected K & I you know a decline last year and due to covid previous Jerry has to also give the return some money back to the state and so and this and this to determine the amount based on the enrollment and so this year was $152,000 question is is t k it is Early Education based on attendance like K12 or is it enrollment so it's PS it doesn't even though they must expand in order for us if they if they miss out or they don't attend for any reason we have to justify the attendance and so it's it's both based on attendance as well as enrollment absolutely no problem any other not for me yeah I have one question and we have to return this money was this under enrollment for students who were subsidized by the state or just under rolled me overall Roman for subsidized by the state so this were students who allowed a certain number of students spots for the students after a student and if we do not feel those students spots but that's a lost revenue from the state thank you so much no further questions I'd like to call for a boat all of those in title is director of state and federal programs and assessments and accountability what's a compliance question on the interview process was there an intentional focus on making sure that the panel had representatives from both he AC as well as my families comes on I don't believe that was part of their the original intent of forming the the panel the panel usually would be classified represent a certificated representative and in some cases with parents but not necessary from from a certain group of parents and administrative sign of the balance is based on a different set of categories when it comes to equity ratio in social work I I just think that the compliance does United something that is super important and pivotal for them to not only understand and grasp as well be rooted and how is it that were scaling or judging people's ability to grasp an Implement and see policy through that lens in that work read the questions that is used in that's the first later interview as well as a second layer in TV would have question specifically asking about diversity equity and inclusion and days on the and its ability to answer the question and being able to demonstrate that the technical expertise as one of the depth and a knowledge of how can a d i program could be implemented so even though the panel is to make up a pound it may not have all the the the makeup of the of the members of the group it is a question that is structured with in level 1 and level 2 interview and how the answers would be provided by the candidates and that's how the judgment will be made activate by all members of the group right so it's the questions but also who is reviewing the questions right that is correct and and members of a panel would be sharing their pros and cons and King and then collectively discuss into which one would be promoted to that would be moved forward to the next layer of interview thank you so much I just got swept question I have now a comment I am comfortable moving forward without there being an intentional focus on that work that is I think that the business of the body that the visit of this District that stuff with the business that I'm here to make sure that we do we do when we're rooted and I'm just with that having that intentional focus on making sure that those voices are at the table where the decision is being deliberated and being made I cannot move forward with that sell not a question just to come and thank you and no, thank you so they do I have no comments thank you goodbye. I don't have any comments but I that are best practices to explain if we are not comfortable voting for something I am also not comfortable voting for an item on this report and I understand we can't single out specific item to remove them I will be voting on the report this week I I know I passed it I mean I Echo the same sentiment as as mr. green room so it's just so that it's it's open to the public okay is everybody done I'll just add that I appreciate board members about there position prior to just taking the vote that I really appreciate you recognizing that that's best practice cuz you know the part the work that I think sometimes gets forgotten that was not forgotten today is that we deliberate and sometimes that's trying to get each other onto the same team so just wanted to Express gratitude I guess I want to engage in a conversation about the committee requests because we have and I know we're not here to discuss committee or hiring practices or promotions I would prefer to discuss this particular report and the the question that I have for staff is when this report is created are like it seems like it's a lengthy report and did we do we need to have all all of these individuals on here or can the report be done like in segments the answer is this at the common practice is that every every two weeks there is a stack of new position promotion hourly assignment has to be approved by the board so that we can move forward with paper works and paying and so on so forth every two weeks and we sometime the two week. Could produce a shorter report sometime you could be a very lengthy one as well by the end of the school year or by the beginning of the school year the report could be in the multiple multiple pages and sometime be short like we don't normally break come out in smaller chunks individual report it's a consent it's all glamping 21 certificated report position that you want to remove to approve the happy mat to revise it basically but the free moving the one position and then you approve it's a lot of individuals and we have heard from a lot of our community our staff and our. Talon has over and over that we've delayed payment we delayed their stipends and I see that their stipends here for individuals who I'm going beyond their normal duties and don't want to delay everybody's payment or process and so I'd like to ask the board to guide us if there is an item here you don't want to prove then we should consider that in and move everything forward I really think it's important for us to be respectful of her staff these are payments and staff that we need to pay them for and I overnight it is the first time I'm bring us information that we can isolate names from reports like these so that's more than I knew and I think that's important I'm under the impression that we can not do that we should not be a mending that's what Miss Williams just mentioned that the motion can go forward with an amendment that's what she just clarified with an extraction of one position if that's what the if if I could spend hours if I could offer a prospective to maybe not necessary and interpretation the reason the items are play all of the extra Duty assignment new position promotion on the consent item because the gone through the process that it's been done over and over again in the district and we would want that the process of hiring neutral and end best matching the talent with the person to the expected new position that this person is moving into and often times if it is a brand new or high-level position it is stand-alone contract such as an assistant suit but below that usually it just a concerned item so I am I'm comfortable with having the entire certificated report to be approved as a consent item tonight but I will respect the board decision on this one what are the are the dissenting numbers comfortable extra in one position cuz it sounds like that's a more appropriate practice to meet the needs of our stuff because if if not I it feels like that discomfort is not sufficient rationale to delay payment to all these people I'm comfortable with that personally if that if we do proceed that way I have a couple questions on a couple other items that I was just going to save for the next time they came up but yeah I'm fine pulling item if necessary although somebody just needs to make a motion can I ask my additional questions then because it might involve modifying a couple of items so I think if you're going to you can make the motion and say with modifications and then describe them out of the Personnel Report with possible modification do we need to do you want to take while I think we need to just be clear on the modification we should be clear on the modifications first notion someone's going to move since first we already moved out so at this point we're in discussion then when I promise I'm in theater they're all different rates and this happened last time as well last time there was a chaperone for 400 in The Chaperone for palak a 200 and a pet chaperone for palak a 150 not as a chaperone for 150 and a chaperone for 104 Pali camp but I am curious no the reason why folks are getting paid different rates to chaperone poly camp prior to the see if I remember prior to this year polycam was fundraise by individual PTA individual School sites in the sometime decision made because it's been raised by parents to compensate or chaperone individually and independently of each other District starting this school year would Finance the the camp itself we will need to sit down with all of our PTA and School site leaders and address the single compensation for chaperone that did not happen this year but moving forward we will look into the dressing that across-the-board personally I'm not entirely satisfied with that would be okay passing them as is and then I I would like to read did it and possibly you know if we decide that the standard rate is 200 and we hope somebody 50 bucks and we have somebody a hundred bucks or something like that but knowing that people are doing the same job and getting paid different things for it doesn't feel Fair you are my person so sorry but I did not hear your response but I was just speculating is it a reflection of their various like 10 years and how their stipends are assigned in general not just this particular stipend or is that the end cast of the science camp was funded by parents fundraising efforts and individual site will make that decision in terms of how much we compensate our parents for chapter Oni and when the district put in our own funding we did not address the the the compensation rate but we need obviously we need to do that and let me see if that is something that we can address this year I will Approach at and report back to the but it seems like the right thing to do but my my whole thing is when we push out the funding we didn't catch that part is that we need to also put in some kind of a line which about how we should compensate at the same rate. I'm K5 District I'm in the other question it's all the way at the end there's a resend previously approved item it says 215 approved on April 25th 2023 we approve some hours for a group of at the last meeting and now it's on there to be rescinded because according to the item it had already been approved back in August but when I looked it up in August it had been in August for 10 hours for a large group of people at the last meeting we approved 45 hours for a smaller group of people I don't know the nature of what they were doing but tourist in 45 hours that we approved last meeting because some of them had 10 hours back in August seems like him track mat if it needs to be 35 hours cuz they already got 10 of the 45 that makes sense but rescinding what we did last meeting because something else happened in August doesn't add right I need to check in without a charge if we got in this one so I would like to make a motion that we approve the certificated Personnel Services report with two Amendment I'd like to remove that item sticks a about rescinding the payment until we get a little bit more information on that and I would like to remove items be one until we have more information on that I do have one when I was reviewing the sarpino clarification does somebody need second I was going to ask a question go ahead go ahead what kind of okay as all right so my question is the I looked over the chaperone questions that were discussing and it seems like under m chaperone chaperone the stipend is 100 I believe those are teachers Myers robber seems to be a teacher for President addresses question so each elementary school has a block grant stipend and they say then as a leadership team decide how to divide a stipend so that's why it's different across the sites it's a it's a local decision at the site decided on by the leadership team president Amezola hearing what president remember Guerrero is asking is that it seems to be the same assignment I know it's a locally decide to decision but if the district could support in any way to make it more Equitable because it seems like we could help the process to make it so I'm I'm committed to to double back on this question and not necessary to bring down the compensation but to bring it up to the same level if one side is it side to pay 250 the question is why besides I'm not able to do so and if it's the question is funding that the district would do its best to supplement the funding to reach that Ecuador rate but let me let me double back and and address that with outside l and I think I heard something very important that we are pulling at least one of these items because committees were not involved and give input in the hiring practice and I I think it's really important for us to have a discussion around that into agendize that immediately because we are not hiring crisis and we need to ensure that we have any vacancies that we are not delaying the process of hiring because they're there needs to be a a hiring board by law or hiring committee that we need to describe an outline and along with when we are broadly expecting these committees to do so much work such as provide input on hiring practices these committees may need to follow the brown act and they may need to be following these practice and so I think it's a for us to urgently prioritize if if the board it which I'm hearing three board members want this they want to have committee's review hiring prep then we need to have that discussion agendize ASAP we can't we can't delay hiring and and that's my my asked that we urgently discuss what is a what is the committee room is this spot does this community to follow the brown act and which committees are going to be asked to review hiring and not hiring because it came out at the last meeting and it came I'll at this meeting too. Was this job description sense to through the EIC or not when that you know when I was part of the EAC that was that the AC was on to create language to go on the job description but not to review job description so I just think it is it's a conversation we need to bring and to have as of this board wants to have guidance for you all and also had a move forward if I could just summarize what I'm hearing so I can relay the information back to Masala Khan we looking creating language in the job description so. applicants from outside looking in we'll see what the district's looking for and then would be deciding whether they wanted to apply to be part of us the second part is that the job description it's out did go through multiple partnership for example input from the board is asking should be also have that kind of a privilege granted to the AC for example the third part I'm hearing is that in the hiring process itself as we fall committees like I said traditionally we go with teachers and classified and administrative and sometime parents inside parents and students should we also actively having a number of participants who were come in from the AC or from other groups from an end so that part I will go back in and see how that will play out in terms of the the processes and how that would work for the district and report back to the board thank you am I hearing that correctly I think you know that's what I'm hearing that there's different faces that that the board wants to provide guidance and wants to hear from committees a different steps of hiring and and so if this is where we're at this we need to have this conversation so we can all discuss it and we can all think about what are those those prophecies okay so no further discussion no then let's let's vote for this report with pulling 6A and see one all of those in favor say aye aye aye okay we are now going to let me take my notes I can move to approve 95 if that's helpful thank you second any discussion I think someone pulled it so go for it and I think this one is pretty clearly tied to salary ranges but on the classified Personnel Service report there's some extra duties in this case all three of my AP proctoring and I actually noticed these last week as well and folks are getting paid different rate is that customary among classify employees at extra-duty things are tied to their regular pay rate rather than a flat rate because we've got I would it be to secretary 2 at the high school 2798 an hour for proctoring hello. We have a clerk-typist doing 3166 for the exact same job or extra Duty I'm going to say because for this particular contractual rate it is based on the person salary itself than the per hour so the person is of a higher position than even though it's doing the same work I'm going to use an example of a principal stepping into to sub for a classroom where the teachers going somewhere for an IEP meeting for example the principal will be doing the work of a substitute teacher but we still compensated principal at the weight of the prince satisfied I'm guessing that's during the work day where is extra Duty I would argue that they would both deserve the same. Let me look into that a little bit deeper explanation about Cheap Fare for two people doing the same extra-duty job to be paid at different rates for it of course thank you are we ready for a boat all those in favor say aye now we go to 10.2 and I just want to 10.2 is first reading a revised policy on physical education and is this something we're discussing different end or should are we putting it I'm going to do my best to jump in and see if I can speak from that perspective waiting for president I mean four. so is this is an information item so we do not need a motion and but I think I would like to invite our board members to provide their questions first I'd like to see if dr. Baxter has a presentation or introduction to 10.2 10.2 we are bringing forward to the board for information and a public way so that we can discuss the first reading of a board policy and a r from gamete is some recent version from July 20th with our versions of board policy and a are at for physical education being dated October 120 at 2002 these two items bring forward some some questions or dress rather some questions from the last board meeting in which giving credit for courses that are within the schedule would be we would be old to do that in a in a robust way for next year in terms of credits for a variety of courses so we're here now to take your comments and your questions for consideration for next time and let's commence with our board as a door digital First Step it's a PNP credit specifically I know we've been hearing a lot about cheer it was brought up in our meeting last Monday. iron need for cheer to Puppy Palace yesterday but I also think it's issues from soccer and volleyball and golf and dance in marching band as well so I guess the question is the first step and then we'll get in that isn't going to happen before we get into that or we can discuss any of those any of those questions on however we like we need to in order to give students credit we need to work within the school day to ensure that scheduling occurs within the school day for students that we meet the required minutes for physical education additionally we need to make sure that this is a question that we've been discussing with others is that you know our cheer program currently is not a it is not a CIF competing program so we need to we would move it from a former Club rather to a course is my understanding and we can bring more information back about that so we can make sure we're we are you know it hearings everything we need to adhere to and we schedule and support it next year it is important to us as well if I may in my poor attempt to support both r d i n at Services Group I think overall a great deal of our programs protected in the in the GE area if we could read interpreted that in some way to bump it up so that I could meet graduation requirement we would look into that and usually takes about three parts the course description will have to be written in the way that would match with what the expectation in the middle send Antoine support with the state like for that to happen the board policy would have to make room for that so therefore you see the first step is to look at the board policy and then the the courts description won't would go in there and then matching set up so that we can do when our students finished the program they would have learned that say the graduation requirement and also being accepted by the university as a PE legitimate PE course the third richest eye doctor Max has mentioned is that because now not a club nothing extension date kind of activity then credentialing wise who would prefer and what kind of credential that would allow the instruction to be accredited and then the scheduling. Chen I just have 2 quick follow-ups just do I have Clarity when you say and some during the day I'm assuming you mean 0 to 7 periods are 27 and just one really clear because I'm not too sure what it means because what I think I'm hearing is that cheer as a club but I don't know what that I don't know what that means currently cheerleading is not it's not a a c i t i f because of the route and which and working with the athletic director and the assistant principal over and over Athletics this the group determined that they wanted to be able to participate and do and do competition in a way which was different than doing sea is so all that it all that to be said we realized and know that there is opportunity to improve and so we're going to offer it within the go to 7. Structure next year to make sure that it can be we can honor we can honor this I think the in in the cheer program usually it's it's is associated with a certain Sports and then season and toys a football when the season's over the students carry on in weight training for example there there's a whole year of course description that would qualify the program to be a p e program we're looking for a way to rewrite the the course description for the cup base activities to become a class and in order to do that it takes a bit of time and the first is to adjust out physical education policy and then rewriting the course description looking at credentialing and then scheduling on top of them biggest Atomic questions can occur I'm trying to get thoughts in order because that was a lot of information that I also was asking for I'm hearing that in order for these athletic activities to be considered to be eligible for PE credit we need to fix for policy which were initiating currently yes how to fix both scheduling and course description which I will be coming in order for fall to be yes and the third was at an instructor credentialing that has to be a certain credential authorization that would allow that because right now we're not sure yet but we do need to another walk on coaches wouldn't so but the a club bass program a walk-on person and not necessarily a teacher an employee or a credential person by CDC so that part hasn't I don't think so I don't think so can you coaches or Sports coaches credentialed are all of our coaches who support get P credits credentialed yes if the key credit is issue that it is a cat and a class is taught by a credentialed teacher a combination thereof but I'm sure that is the cape but then again I may not be as letics got a student any athletic activity that a student gets a p e credit for currently is a course meaning of 0 through 7 and is taught by a credentialed or there's a teacher of record accessible and the students it's in the what policy in the a r b students who are in 8th grade have to take the physical fitness assessment the test or kind of Sodor if it sew-in in the board would have authority to if the instructional minutes or met for physical education to Grant this PE credit however there are specific parameters around not seat time cuz it's p is got to be active that are required for this and this is what we're changing in order to allow for that yes so it's very clear to everyone and it's very transparent and this is from gamete it's very important that we follow the rules and Ed code around Enid okay thank you if I made just for clarification there is a practice the district's allowed to do Under the the CDC guidelines is that one teacher record could be the teacher of record and allowing the walk-on coaches to be the one working during the season it doesn't mean that that every walk-on coach would have to be credential but you have we have to identify a teacher's of record with a fulcrum angeling authorized by the state so that part of use the first step that we go in allow me to say I don't coach Michael Cooper is credential a PE teacher but he is obviously a knowing more about the sport that he's coaching anybody else and in that case it's it's called shelter who's the teacher of record that would be my yes you got it that's what that was I was helpful Okay Kevin and the point of us bringing this forward is just to make sure that we're able to offer this to all of those where it could only be applicable I think the next remember is loaded. I'm not going to be quick if there's if there's there's a part of this that I want to talk about our are norms with moving forward with policy and but I don't talk about that until I addressed what just transpired was that to our student cheer volleyball soccer golf fall under Athletics when you go to our cthss Athletics page their athletic they have to go through the home team like service in order to have insurance to do all the Flagstaff from the most part our athletic I just want to say first of all it's our system our system doesn't serve all our students so for my child to plays lacrosse when she plays lacrosse her her coach is a I'm pretty sure she's over there walk on coaches but they are placed in a six. PE where they get their p e credit and at times they are doing workouts for lacrosse at Foremost you know most of the year I didn't check whether or not she did whatever testing it was I see that there's a brand name now fit Fitness grammar whatever it is but you know in our current enforced policy one of the things that it says is the superintendent or designee make them students from physical education and when they are participating in interscholastic athletic programs which until comfortable amount of time in physical activity provided their physical education and its entirety meet the district curriculum standards so I see this is more that our failure our system to identify them as athletes and then schedule them into at CME credit receiving course so that they could check that off and that frees them up take a different elective later on because that usually is happening in 9th and 10th grade so I think that this is really a failure of the district to be able to give them that course and a how we can give them that cuz they've they've done this work and athleticism but we just did not provide them with the system that supports them for that credit and I think that we need to differentiate that that you know it's not an end and now we're going back and providing thank you for this policy that is going to hopefully serve more of our students so that they don't fall through this Gap so I just wanted to clarify that for for the board here and for the public that we are trying to write a system that is clearly not serving us all equally that being said I see that we are at you for me cheerleading is a part of what we call team sport and so it was already covered in that in that second page of the BP but I do also want to ask whether or not those and you will looted to it dr. Baxter weather that everyone in the 9th grade is being tested as long as they're taking PE is that correct do if that is correct then is that something in fifth seventh and ninth grades according to the AR right is that's that's Adco that everyone needs to take out test yes and it's report it out on the socks and our threshold is to attempt this year cuz it's another one of those we kind of have a little bit of room from the state to attempt at rates of 95% or better okay but in the future because they said this is one of those we have leeway in this year but in the future those. Reporting goes in the dark no no I'm sorry I am um being confusing it goes in the Stark but students only have to attempt a curl-up it's not yes it's not getting right now and how many Carlos kiddos right now you have to report scores there are some gender issues with the assessment because it assumes students are male or female there's some body image issues because there's the calipers that pinch the chub under your arm kind of thing in and assign kids weight are underway to things like that so they think that should be vising the fitnessgram there will be a test I'm sure it may not be the fitnessgram in the near future in the future we may have to I meant this policy which is fine because it may not be called fitnessgram but in generally we would see that kind of attempt information in the dark thank you okay so those are my comments about the actual policy versus how we are how it is manifested in the sea and I really want to be able to solve this is not what we're talking about right now but I really want to be able to solve this issue as soon as possible in terms of folks that the system was not working for as soon as possible but I know that this is but the next stop I also want to talk about and this applies to the other near or or BP or you know and also the subsequent one that is coming up that the next item that is coming up but I really want us to work on Crystal Miller to how the board has asked about like a a contract checklist in the pan you know we need to create some kind of policy review flowchart where we're saying I have an expectation of you no first reading or or second reading and it did the amount of time between the two now I've been told by cspa that typically when there's a review its first reading 1 months and and then there's a and then it may not come back for seconds or fraction the until the following month and then I'm in this case you know we're getting this the phys-ed first reading now and and the subsequent item give her the first reading already and this is this is going to be a second reading so there's there's not a problem right there right now I'm just saying that I would like to see this I would like to see the systematized where we're getting and again because there was confusion earlier so I just want to say it for the public when we are seeing these these board policies or regulations that we identify the date of the ESPN sample that's being used so that's the floor and then we build up the you know the language that is unique to the culture of ccusd Indonesia ccusd from there okay with with you and members of the board if we put that in the description because yes it was like not actually on the document about yes as long as it's identified so you know and then I see at the bottom like but in addition I see at the bottom of the of each one it says regulation reviewed but it doesn't say when it was first adopted or last revised and I think that usually you just like cross it out like you did you know this this stuff works so that you can show us the evolution of it and then also in the description I would so ask if you could identify whether it's mandated to be updated or not because the the additional information of whether or not it's Ed code or government code that we are trying to be compliant with makes a big difference in terms of importance and priority that we should be moving it up in our review and then also to the point earlier and I think that board member of Guerrero said this oh what is time last week when it's like we need to really identify the stakeholders that need to be consulted and so when I'm thinking about this flowchart in my mind it's like okay and in certain one their business services maybe we don't need you know a lot of stakeholder engagement but in some cases we may need stakeholder engagement and that's going to look differently depending what it is right and so this is it this is something that I think that needs to be discussed in the future it doesn't have to be solved now but like in I would like our policy subcommittee which consist of dr. Kent and I to you no work with the assistant superintendents to figure out what this float like what this flow chart is in the in the future so that we can manage each other's expectations of like how did could move through sometimes it's a director's that are working on on this and sometimes it's the assistant superintendents and sometimes it's just like a matter of Haley needs to be compliant and here's the new mandated tspa policy there it is and you know that's it because sometimes that's that's all we need like we need just a sample and that's okay and so I'm just trying to you know make sure that right now I'm being lengthy but it's because I want to set up the expectation that in the future and sis is going to move like this and there won't be any question about it so it do it it does that and we don't have any times like earlier today when we had a we had a cross community where we thought we were talking about two different things thank you thank you I thank you for president cuz I speaking a little bit out of time by going again but I just want to add to board member loretto's request that the idea is and I think I'm probably just reiterating but I just want to be clear that I am plus wanting the request is that I think why the why is a super helpful part of our buying and Trust communities buying and trust and so whether it was initiated because of something mandated at the state level whether it was initiated because we had an immense amount of questions last week that led to the failure of an item to pay whether it was initiated because we realize that we've been under serving three or four or five different groups of kiddos who are busting their butts on the field around the quarter in the competition and not getting to your recognition whatever whatever the real I think that's important so in the description if the Y for the item bring broadcast could be stated that would be helpful along with what you're already doing thank you so much bring us the date of the last update from C-SPAN it's hugely helpful and then this piece about whether it came to your department at services for instant or B business services from directors whether they said hey we need to update this the director said blah blah blah or whether the you know maybe maybe a board appointed committee brought it to the attention of a department. A part of that why would be helpful let me know who is batting at like friends since we also had some questions come up last week where we didn't realize that a whole legal team had looking at had looked at a board policy before we saw it and that would have helped a lot too so we're just again it's the system ization that I'm really grateful for board member Loretta leading us on and I'm just happy to you know be in the Wind of her coattails and try to add a little fire to it thank you yes just real quick I like this a lot I like that it clarifies you know against the dance that cheer that all these other activities are part of legitimate parts of physical education and should be treated as a side should be scheduled his side should receive credit aside that also means and I and I appreciate that this is called out more specifically now that it was that students with IEPs have the right to participate in all of these PE umbrella activities with their full whatever modifications are combinations are called for their IEPs and 504 plans so that will make all of these physical type activities more inclusive which I think is great I also I really appreciate it in the board policy where talk about Staffing it specifically calls out the district will provide physical education teachers with continuing professional development relevant to physical education and I'm sure we do that already to a certain extent I know you do it a lot of places when large you know PD is is developed a little niches and things like that of folks who don't necessarily get relevant professional development all the time in this really calls out that PE teachers should be developing as physical education teachers not just the generic PD's that everybody gets and things like that or being drugged do math PD or something like that you know something that's relevant to them, I imagine we have the expertise they could be training each other in a lot of cases so I appreciate that stuff yet I like to thank you I'm sorry I left one note off is it possible for us I know that we have the the circum the reference that are safe School safe Roots program safe routes to school program but our mileage may vary across our elementary and I would like to see us be more in intentional there and put in make sure that we get in that programming at all of the Elementary sites time meeting with safe the safe routes Mr shanaman I believe is that jamming jamming jamming I'm meeting with him on Thursday so I can ask a question and see what more I can learn to see what we can start or or or maybe you could send me info about yeah it is happening at some of the sites but like you know there isn't specific policy for our for our admins or PE teachers to be like I have to fit in and so I like how it's here but maybe we can be a little bit more like detailed about it whether you know in terms of getting it in thank you I first want to apologize to staff for not sending these questions in advance so you didn't get the first reading its information so these are just questions you don't have to answer and I will try anyways it was a long weekend I didn't get these questions out to you in time so that my first question is on page four it says how was students be given the opportunity to ask questions in their primary language that is something that it's stated there that that that students who are English Learners would have the opportunity to ask question I'd like to see something in the air around that also page 5 are we looking at our joint use agreement we've heard from parents that are joint-use agreements our need to be review need to be assessed I'll give you the example Blanco Park is a joint land agreement and so parents concerned that nobody cleans up as much as they need to and people over use the fields and it might become unsafe because of overuse and so I think it's important for us to or our city liaison team to please tackle that as soon as possible and it also talks about safe routes to school it says developing programs to encourage bicycling however every time I take my bike to the high school I can then there's no bike racks and when I go inside the high school whatever limited bike rack they have our poop the capacity and the spikes are falling and they're outside the racks are encouraged rested to think about adding bike racks for the students that's a way to encourage them to bike and then and we need him outside too so encourage parents to also bike not just do it what is the problem I think for me page 5 it talks about excuse students to learn how to drive and I think it's like 24 hours I'm wondering if that's something that we need to update given that less and less through since her actually learning how to drive or I don't know if that means that even applicable this is from dammit so if you all want to changes just let me know because this it just keeps it within the parameters of the PE minutes so just let me know if you want me to change that where are we at on that particular one I would say it gives the flexibility to do something it doesn't prescribe it so I'm comfortable with it being in there as an option all right and this is actually a discussion that I'm I'm still a little confused around what is going to happen with our current students who want PE credit and are for example and cheer in club like I would like to know what what what is going to be their status it's it's May you know next month is the last month of school and and I think we need to have a response to them there are additional there probably two or three more questions I I need to find out the answers is that if we could retroactively approve and then going back with soon as had already taken these cheer programs in dance and such as such would that be recognized on the transcript as a graduation credit and perhaps even a through G required so let me find out how that can be done but we're looking into can this be done the board approval to Grant PE credits for those students and in addition when when these are not seen as a full class the grading system may not be, go to a GPA calculation I need to find out how to sew if it is alleged to cheer program the wood grade has been given to them and that cannot be accepted by the university in the transcript visits GPA calc dateable data I don't know the answer to that but I do know the first step is to broad-based the policy and the AR so that as we restructure and revising all the other courts description it fits into a lie the framework for the district and then we work at operational I said it out and see can this be done for different activity different be under the different programs under the umbrella and then can this be applied students who had Who currently in the program over here taking this class if it is a single semester class, how does that work I need more information to work with site leaders on that and bring back Baxter night discuss one of the Pacific is not corrected yet in here but it is noted to be corrected going forward that we could State for the community he is and I understand what is old and new in terms of our previous version of this policy versus the a through G for all model put in in response to our question from last week I was hoping we can highlight for the commute right now the changes in the document that are in response to the question just to be sure I have notes on all the questions so in regard to in regard to that. questions there was a question about reporting interventions with disaggregated data so one of the things that we're noting and I'm going to be doing is looking at the boot camps that we offer in this summer to prepare steel as they go into the class of of 2027 which is a few years out looking at all of those data and support we have also in terms of the question is this where you're asking I'm sorry I might big directly answering what you're asking me I don't need to be a face it and it is just anyone else know how to better see what I'm saying are you understanding what I'm saying like what in the policy reflects the board's unmet needs from last week this version of this second read got it okay so for example there was feedback on the word indicator that was removed let's see there was some of it was some of it was comments from other cuz I wrote from the community that I wrote those down as well there was suggestions and terms of processes about listening to the community listening to students and families so we are agendize in that we have discussed with leadership and counselors and of course we can discuss and listen more it was who qualified there was a we ordering of the minimum of course at language we did we order that to make sure those pieces were together there was a question about vertical alignment with courses but since 4 this time to help us gear up for the CTE courses we we put together the CT Pathways we have that as a PDF but we thought we would save that for next time as the agenda the priorities came through there is I think we could Justin Bieber figure out a way to get a highlight or italicized labor-intensive is that what you're telling me right now so I don't want it to be I don't I don't I don't want it to be I think we had respond to the question received from the board the last night and I if I'm understanding correctly you asking us to highlight the answers I just respect our right now responding to the we will note it somehow that the following paragraph is to one of our responses to the the question received from the lights on the document some of them are further engagement with interested parties and experts on the ground like some of them are on plans for the future and so forth so it sounds actually like I'm hearing that it is a complicated answer but it's important for us to know and I don't know that it was in our last Friday report my butt if I missed it that's okay sorry and then yeah so I just want to make sure that were communicating with the community that that we're hearing the answer questions that are being raised and so then that's fine I will leave that and I'll just move on to the questions that I have now which are around the comments raised tonight around arts and the don't understand it so I hope I hope you can explain the the question around arts and the ten credits or something to ask category and I'm sorry I don't actually don't understand it and then the question around what is our response to how are some of our students who are staff are concerned may not meet this criteria even in 2027 I'm going to fair and that they experienced being told other Pathways which is not my understanding of what we're doing so I'd like Clarity around that please thank you so if I could just go back in and capture that statement first about by adding or restoring 10 credits of of modern language we have now taken away the opportunity for student to take more classes I think that was one of the statement made tonight I need to go to look at the the how the scheduling and and can the extra class in in modern language be done before the start of school or some kind of we need to figure out is that true is it does that trailer by restoring second requirement for for modern language somehow that translate to less opportunity for students who take cards and in addition to also mention that the kind of art that is being offered right now may not be the kind of art the students wanted take I need to verify that that is also the case so there's a lot of comments and then things coming in about associated with a through G another group of comments I remember that we have to double back is by pushing for an A through G without building some kind of a massive amount of energy individually supporting students how would still die. Students who are English Learners to the chief at and we just going to have more conversation site leaders and our counselors in our teachers context is not a one-size-fit-all but it's a starting point either she's only 15 classes there's extra things in this flexibility so there's more to be explored but I don't track it's not tracking it's a starting point right yeah if we can if we can have some language as we you know see this on a future occasion around how we're meeting the needs of all and this is not exclusive for ostracizing or marginalizing or disenfranchising if we could have some response to that I would appreciate it and I am sensitive to language that can infer tracking it'll help me put the brakes on real quick so I do want to just make sure that we answer any hesitation around that and I think we we can expound and expand on this notion which this is predicated upon which access in terms of the final product I'm really clear on the access Concept in terms of if we don't leave students as graduates with more options than they had his ninth graders we are not doing our job and if we are providing them and only one or the other we are necessarily leaving them with fewer choices as a graduate than they had as a 9th grader the 9th grader they still could have been both and therefore we are imposing an adult understanding of what choice should have been made on that students behalf because they are not an adult they're still a minor and we should not be making that choice for them especially when we know bias lives in those big spaces more than in the concrete spaces so I fully understand the question of access at the graduation stage I'm very I'm bored that are supportive of this but I just want to be ensured that we're communicating how it is absolutely not anything that would hinder smack up tracking thank you sorry little trouble in my butt in there okay so from what I can see how other folks other school districts have done this I think we are using the word phasing Fray and how that tracks through so that we have transparency with our stakeholders and so most of the time there's like a kind of spreadsheet of a phasing I think that in the past and so I'd like us to that manifest here so that because a lot of folks they read our policy but until they see it in like a tab and a table format it's difficult for that so then it becomes like this month talking and all of that and maybe that communication is going to help a little bit I'm sorry where you going to respond to that bit I have an idea but I'm just making a note for myself okay great so from what scene from other school districts that are in the midst of the phasing that that is without is what they're doing now in our current on course manual which is readily available to the public on the cchs website we have this you know college-ready a graduation and a through G college-ready requirement so there is like one table for 22 through 20 text graduation years and then an anticipated 427 that was prior to because they didn't know what was going to happen with with the word policies right and so this is not reflect of what we're talking about right now but this is what are the people that you say that you will engage with in terms of our students are family isn't and whoever else this is how they're used to seeing yet so far and you know if we can talk to them in this kind of language that they understand I don't know if people actually understand this I mean if you're if you're new to to the high school like this is still kind of confusing but you know if it's in this kind rurik looking kind of thing where they can check off the boxes instead of the way that our policy lays out I think it's more digestible for our public so I would I would really suggest that you bring a timeline to those engagement sessions I guess I guess I wanted to ask you a little bit more about how you were going to eat my still being a but how you will engage stakeholders and what the you know who who you're looking to engage so that the table that says board member Laredo the table that says 2027 in that is reflective of the Acer G that and the counselors presented that at the 8th grade family night so there's been a public presentation and that way which was several months ago so we are depending on when this is agendize for Action we are planning on reaching out to families this would be a great families cuz that's who it's applicable to the class of 2027 and they have had this presentation at one time because that's what was in the counselor presentation and then also to students to get their their input but thank you and I can add those as addendums into this next time that would be helpful I think for for us so so what you're saying right now is this dissipated 2027 graduation requirements is indeed reflective of this policy that we have in our hands right now I will triple check has there been some there have been some there's been some input but but the two years of what language is added in there and that was the huge instrumental change so like Service Learning credits and there could be some nuances and some sweet but but largely that was the huge shift okay and then you know it and so then there's the whole wording of course in the policy it has to be worded this way but it's the whole like attempted at attempt at UCCS you or not the right wording so I don't forgive me it's not attempt it's like met you CCSU a through G in terms GPA vs. getting high school graduation credit and that I think is the Nuance that that folks are saying like it. It adding a through G may be problematic and I guess I want to return to the supplemental info that you provided about the rest of the the data about our surrounding you high school districts because I am very surprised that it says a through G 70 what I know that in the past it's been a through G for us about hovering around 50 55% in terms of not just attempted but like needing cfu you see. And I appreciate hearing that because right about minutes ago I pull up the CD e website calculating 2021-22 a through G they call it graduating meetings CSU and you see expectation it's 73 send for 2122 and I went back one more year and it was still in the highs in the mid-70s I went back a year before that it would to drop to 67% sometimes it and this is a four-year cohort not a vehicle her account I need to double-check but the CD website did say that a through G graduation rate in 21 22 was 74% a Fuji achieved that of all of our seniors or all of our graduates all of that did the cohort is counting up those who graduated so they could be about that maybe what the difference is definition at the time is that froze who graduated how many of the graduates have met the a through G on the 2015 to 2019 dashboard still says 55 and then it wasn't updated during covid because that's not something I put on the dashboard test scores went on last year but College and Career Readiness didn't go on yet LinkedIn and noted in the addendum cuz I wanted Mike I only wish are dated it's verifiable with all of you so that's where that's coming from okay so that may be why the 55 is in our minds because you're saying and let me just repeat this to confirm superintendent it's that 70% of those who actually graduated and now out of our entire class of seniors that is correct but it is the definition of data Quest okay thank you what the difference is and thank you for that so the ice thank you for bringing up the flagging for interventions because really when I'm talking about the phase and the tab you know the spreadsheet whatever it happens to in the phasing really what we need to say is like in this year you know or in this cohort whatever it happens to be this is what's the change and then like these are the news reports that were putting in to me keep that to meet that need to meet that changed because it is very difficult to just have a new expectation for an incoming class without saying OK Deezer the expectations that we are providing interns interventions in terms of College and Career counseling because I need and in terms of mental health because all of that needs to be wrapped around our scholars in order for them to be poised to succeed in this I think that you'll get a lot more buying with that kind of communication and phased-in approach other than that I think that also if when we engage our stakeholders if we also engage in I heard from the public about our BLTs and like you know let's make sure that we're adding language Justice to the way they were communicating with our stakeholders is so that that we are covering all our bases there don't thank you very much for for your work on this and also for confirming for clearing that up a board member got a I texted you want to act like that before remember the radio said about taking our time to develop this and I think we've got some other examples of initiatives that we've begun I brought up the College Prep English last time where the component of that is supposed to be support for the students who once upon a time where it in college prep tech classes but now are we haven't seen any data yet on the cat successful or some kind of way year and how's that going you know but we're talkin about launching into another program that will require scaffolding a lot of students so I think our approach to Scaffolding in a through G for all environment should be informed by lessons learned from our scaffolding for college for all we haven't seen anything on that yet so you know I think there is a certain amount of hesitation you don't want on my part on what are the parts of the folks who call dinner or spoke on this about what are we going to do to can you give us a through G requirements on it's easy we just passed you know we all vote for it there you go that doesn't mean students are suddenly able to do it 60 and over the last years and I've I've forwarded a couple articles and they had sort of glad she did somebody cited but I think it's a OPI study about a lot of school districts have this is a great idea and they launched into it but then add the back a lot of nerve actually moved away from it again you know Santa Anna has moved away from it a lot of them had to go from the sea - 4 all to the D - kind of things like that and I don't want to see us launch into it and then have to back to I would much rather see us pays it in very slowly very deliberately even if that means waiting a year to begin but to have those scaffolds developed have all the communications figured out have all of these you know what are we going to do about it it was an IEP who's not allowed to or not able to take algebra to successfully you know just a student not graduate do I give them a little certificate that's not the same thing as I mean with the student who's an English learner and has their scheduled start with e l d classes and may have challenge with this kind of thing you know I want to think about all of those what if before we launch into this you know it it just kind of ticky tacky thing but it leads into a they can turn their head so I really appreciate with all the edits and things one of the edits that I had suggested it moving what is currently on page for about the eligibility for minimum State diploma moving that up there's actually a paragraph a solid Chunk on page six which is exemption from District adopted graduation requirements I suggested that go up there too because that kind of introduces this this concept and it's a misconception that I heard from some of our folks calling in about the 130 credit path you know this isn't something that we're creating so that we can slide some students through for struggling this is actually an ed code requirement we don't have any choice about this but you know for the list of Stu on their students who are any of the following in foster care is a homeless youth as defined in section whatever a former juvenile court student a child of a military family a migratory child's a newly arrived immigrants student we have to offer and honor 130-unit path for those students have any choice and so that's not something we're creating it's not a lesser thing in existing Edco because of the unique experience is the student a couple people zoomed in on that last one that says the student not reasonably able to complete Culver City High School's graduation requirements so we probably need to talk about what that means and how we're not going to use that as a catch-all for any student who struggling but I think when people talk about a lesser path I think that's what they're seeing this I know you created this hundred 30-unit thing we didn't create this it's a requirement you know and I think by moving that block that explains what is Pat with this 138 thing is we'll help with that but but I do think we need to continue doing more communication I mean we may have done some listening sessions with with teachers and things are Folks at the high school but clearly by the fact that we have multiple counselors calling in I need the folks that work with students on this type of a thing more than anybody else we need to continue doing that communication cuz they're not bought in yet they're not believing that we have the support structures in place yet you know there were a couple of people that also called in about are we creating almost a single track that is too rigid for students because not every kid does wanting to go to account stator you see are 4-year I I read the research understand that our goal is not to force everybody to try to go to a 4-year it is to give every student the opportunity to go to a four-year what if a kid graduates they're not interested in college but three years later they are you know we still want them to be able to do that and not make their life Bound by decisions they made when they were 15 but there are passing and a shared these land Eastside unified San Jose Unified they have created an opt-out option for some of these things were you still go through the rigorous classes but if you know what the permission of your parents when you get to be a junior or something like that if you say you know I want to go to trade school and I want to put all of my classes in 2 c t e I don't want to take out a two or something like that bit there is some flexibility for that so I think there's still some details of this that we need to work out through the process I think we're getting closer on itself but I still think there's a lot of conversations a lot of concerns I don't want to move into this if you do a big constituency is saying no no no you know and we're trying to force this past them then ask them to endorse this you know what the students you know they would be much better if we can listen to the concerns do they think that you know we need more support for students all right let's create that do they think that we need to Define how just going to work for an English letter how's this going to work for student with IP great let's do that and let's not just jump into it before we've had those conversations before we've come up with some of those Solutions okay so I just have a couple clarifying question and that is Discord Mission requirement will be in place for every incoming freshman the fall if it gets approved right now it looks as if we going to have a class 2027 as the one that would have to have the a through G built-in but we also heard tonight that there is then maybe just I remember to mention is that perhaps we could slow down and seized. in and going backward and see what else can we do in 4th 5th and 6th and 7th and 8th to prepare a better Landing zone for the suits when they come in tonight so all of this is still in flux and conversation we need to have more conversation to make sure that when we have a class designated to be the first class ever to have this we would have had enough supports and an escape Clause if I could use that phrase and in the rough way for students to still be able to Branch off into earned a diploma some more information before coming but right now the way it's written in the class of 2027 and allow me to say that it's just a marker and it's not a permanent thing of any kind do need to double back and check in without Without Partners and see how this can be done and if it's not what more needed to be in place so that we can get that done and if it's not then we move the date to somewhere I would like to propose that a through G should be the first landing Zone and if it is not we need to ask house out why because once upon a time and I'm going back to our record we had 61% a through G and we went up to 70 73% of 3 G what is telling is that the the a through G graduation rate different significantly based on ethnic groups significantly so even when we're improving a Fuji African American students graduating Hispanics in the lot next to his graduating not at the same a through G achievement so maybe there's a lot more information that we need to focus and and say if we need to support the students that just make sure that I'll support come to the specific student groups wear that with our support will make the biggest difference so more information before coming and I'm I'm hoping that we can bring back closer to 2 a.m. a definitive outcome that we can share with the board for our incoming students to the high school if this if we decide as a board to you know delay one more year to gather input put a certain path but certain supports to help the students what are the implications for the freshmen coming in if if I could start most of the Freshman courses probably the same across the board that the distinction is algebra 2 which is what four member Guerrero and the second year of modern language so somewhere along the way those two play into he either you go left or you go right and I don't think the first year is going to be that significantly different weather do Chase require or not because it's still at the beginning level of math science and social studies and and and laboratory modern languages some more information before coming but let me just like member Ambler a dimension let's just build a bunch of mate she said that we can see how would that what year do we need to start paying attention because I don't think the incoming freshmen at this time will be in any different way. The incoming freshman last year it just relaxing to you vietri their program will be will becoming significantly different so let us bless begin with care and and to make sure that we can adjust program cell together some of the ideas became maybe we could use some of this commence differently acceleration some some students came in with some capability of of a second language based on you know the land of their birth may be an examination for credit could be an option for them as well so all of that is the rich area for us to deploy into to meet the a through G in an Innovative way I want a through G would not been a requirement at my high school like I would have not defaulted to completing a through G and going through the UC system do for me in my life this has been really important to changing dramatically the trajectory of my life I would have been picking grapes in Madera California if I wouldn't have had the opportunity to go to college so these are the things that I would like see put in place as we consider these graduation so and I can email you these but I do want the community to hear that this is where my values done so that when do Bo people understand why I'm voting the way I am still waiting for me I want to make sure that we have the most rigor in the most support that we have culturally affirming coursework that we have educational experiences which students can Thrive and are prepared for both college and Workforce right and that's it and it's not in war and that's why it's so morning breath have that study session where we see a through G side-by-side with r c t e Envision how these two can work together now I also really need us to focus on the English language Learners and have a roadmap for them and provide resources so that English learn English language learning education has a support like these are these are the extra support this is the road map for you and I hear everybody talking about math and how to dance are not passing math and so are we need to put in place a mathematical framework to ensure that our school our leaders are coaches our teachers every single person is join this framework of equity for all our math the says that every student can pass these classes right but but we need to do that right we need to have this framework for Math and then the last thing is if there wouldn't have been mr. Sanchez at my high school saying Fowler you're going to apply to college but I'm going to fill out the application for you Paula I'm bringing parents in to convince them because I know they don't want you to go away that person is so instrumental in my life and making sure that I went to college and so we need to figure out how we can get more teachers of color more counselors of color more people who understand that we need to provide the most rigor and the most resources so that students have the most choices when they graduate so that's where I stand today and I hope to hear you all bring some of this forward to us thank you okay we completed a 10.5 so let's now go to 12 1 waiver of the bylaw at 9320 meeting with schedule proposed meeting day thank you thank you thank you thank you okay then for a first reading a revised mou between ccusd and Culver City Police Department regarding the srl so if if I could just bring back this conversation that it started out this time last year actually work the board had instructed me to bring the mou for the SR program but with the context of having an emphasis on restorative practice and. language in there and and a body of data on our students and put so let me just say this the survey has been constructed from Doctor Smiths group it is in my inbox waiting for me to look into it and then share perspective and then we will roll out out between now and the 23rd of May which is the date that we had expected to to have the boys take action on this item in addition this is part of the school, the comprehensive school safety plan that I had to have a either aligned with saying that we do not have an adopted and you for the rest of our program but as of right now we do have one except that one is 20 some years ago probably longer than that and it is we have to have an action on it so this is the draft version the first meeting of it so I would just wanted to present it to the board to see any questions anything that I needed to what am I missing what I need to hear your input and fit and feedback and and then we go from there this is an information item no emotion needed as a door thank you so much for visiting superintendent for questions and I know I'm really looking forward to seeing the outcomes of the student survey to see with the students think about an mou in npt presence on our campuses I also am looking for. I'm under the impression that when this came about a year ago there was a push and maybe those who were on the board can let me know if was that is there not for data I can respond so when we I can't recall if we voted it down we didn't we pulled it reported yet okay we pulled it but we part of being a limited but robust discussion about what we wanted to see when it came back and student voice was the primary and data was the secondary I may be forgetting some other things but yes we were close to it wasn't that we were set up ticular data set it was that we requested that data as part of the agreement be written into the document data reporting we specifically requested that I know at least I know will Deport I'm reporting be written into the document before it's agreed upon from the police department to the school district on the nature of all interactions between the police department and our students decide where goodbye all of the important identifiers I think I should consider perfectly so I think of the top two  I were asked when this came here ago is definitely for me and ask now I I definitely think it'd be important to make sure that is written into the exact agreement and I also and maybe you can you can ask that you can answer the question now but this idea. Police presence prevents an uptake in negative behaviors I just is that true and what data or what is driving that assertion I've had a chance to review some of the numbers at the very beginning of this program what the date was measuring is something uniquely different in the context of Culver City today it was Gang Related activities it was geared toward controlling and reducing Gang Related at 2 I don't think that's something that I could say about one side of the other with a disc impacted then Gang Related activity and goes to the high school I don't see it but for four a multiple number districts who just happened to struggling through that there's that there's a racial component to it there's there's that certain that I I've heard the word using tonight as intimidating it is you know that's scaring the kids and controlling and so if that meant because the law enforcement group is on campus intimidating scaring the students and therefore gang music to we went down the question is is that something that is Lee High School setting and I don't know the answer to that so the way we measure the way the state had measured the the program that's our program over the years is measuring the wrong thing I'm just going to say that out loud it's the wrong thing for the district to look at what are we to reduce our kids are not fighting in the at this at this point in since the violence because of gang affiliated maybe once upon a time 5 my time maybe that was the case I don't know that but the conflict today probably from within our students and and not being recognized and and feeling isolated something else completely so if we were to have a SRO program on campus we will prevent play rap but we will not have removed the root causes of the of the anger and the frustration that has been proven also so I need to quantify that in so many different ways and I don't know if this is even an option I would I would be more comfortable an alarm at 4 why isn't information before we're seeing the response from our students and then it's a match I would prefer me I would prefer we see the results that information and action but that's just that's just my preference and and thank you for that I actually I don't know that I've said it publicly before for the opportunity to go on a ride along with rsrl a few months ago and it was very revealing when it comes to tactics when it comes to presents and what that looks like on a regular guy thinking while I'm on a Wednesday and Not only was I able to be in the car with the officer but we actually went on high school campus together and I saw the lights out if I could just say the cat was a revealing for me and if I could be permitted to maybe either offer that as a suggestion that maybe if my colleagues are interested to to do that just see what that is like and what that looks like from the lens of the resource officer and with that with that feels like she was right. They had feelings myself what that felt like for me the number to board of education so I can only imagine what that feels like my students on the grounds each and every day Pacific Yew how many public comments were provided video of the respite from atoms in a person thank you Okay so yeah I might my and I will further inform my request for annual reporting of desegregated data from CCP to the district around the details of every single interaction with our students I will inform that request that it be written into the mou by adding that we have ended at 1 and it was not comforting data it was disproportionate by race and other factors and I was also not comforted because it took a very very very long time to get the data the board requested it by majority the superintendent requested it for quite a lengthy time certainly over one year I would venture take over to both in public and in private before we got it so I feel strongly that that be reflected in the mou in writing I would like us to explore the possibility of changing the language around the uniform of this resource officer I would prefer this resource officer not look like a traditional police officer I'd prefer they not be armed and so I am interested in exploring with that looks like I understand we would need to explore in collaboration with the PD I don't purport to know what that should be but I would like them to not look like a traditional police officer I'm sorry saying and then I know that we were told sorry let me just think about how to prevent these next couple thoughts okay yes I really feel strongly about hearing from the students that survey sounds promising let me just rattle off these next few questions in a lump so I'd like to know what the edit that were made by our dii Department are we I think it stays and now I'm I'm not clear on where but it's either in the Friday reporter in the description of the item or something that the DEA Department review the draft and and made some of the I'd like to know the details of that Adam maybe I have not run this by our department the first rap is actually my reflection a year ago having some deix speculation to the language and since then I've passed dr. Smith team to work on the survey so I will run this by by her of her group for the event so hence. The conversations are received be back at this point. It okay thank you that's important as well so yes I would appreciate that but then I have some other very specific questions that I'm interested to know if they can appear in the mou friend since I would like to have it faded somewhere in the mou that we will not ever bring stop police dogs onto campus I would like it to State on the mou something in particular about under what circumstances we will ever which is student so I understand that when we've called a resource officer because of us suspicion of a criminal activity or an allegation of a criminal activity that at that point the matter is in the hands of the police and that we we do really to some degree so I'm aware of that but I would like some sort of comment in writing about how short of an allegation or suspicion of criminal activity student will never be searched by the three swords I'm on their property and then finally I have a policy I'm just stating this publicly and I and I hope to engage with my partner on the subcommittee for policy around I believe that when this comes back us we should update a policy that corresponds to it and the numbers in the five thousands and I have it and just need to search me I didn't do it before my comments need to search my for the number but I want us to bring back a corresponding policy to make sure we update it to be sure the board's values are reflected in the latest policies ever flakes relates to this agreement so I will I will what I'll do is I'll email cabinet with that policy number along with board member Loretto thank you I think I'm next so I didn't go through this language of those fine tooth comb because I already knew that we really need to get at as Alyssa said for board member elected Agate said there are a lot of feelings on campus of about about what animal you might like or what it shouldn't look like how about that that's really what it what it feels like and when I was listening to her voice and also and when I her voice I hear the other students voices through the through her as well is that I think the students and the public don't know what the current mou looks like I didn't know what it looks like until today so what we need to impress upon them is that this language is very outdated and I mean it this should be they should be available to the public so that they understand that where we're going is is not where this is right now and so I just wanted to reiterate one of the things that you said that is like really address thing it was really back then addressing Gaston Beauty and there no first of all on this animal you there's no signatures and there's no term on it so this is what's enforced now and do some of these language on here is that this person is supposed to identify gang members and suppress gang activity they are also supposed to patrol and attend extracurricular activities that occur on school property to sporting event dances and prom so obviously these are not things that are happening right now we do not have our school resource officer patrolling you know our our activities and so we want whatever the come whatever comes back to it should be reflective of our current culture and the culture that we want to see in the future and so I think that I think that I hear that there is a need for this because the one that's in place is she just has terrible outdated language and I really is something that we can share with that you can share with the public superintendent pointed out the something I needed to mention up front great. The last police chief Manny said and I sat down on this conversation and he said regardless of how this turned out that the current mou is so not it so we need some better and he did mention we got his how things turn out these does ccpd services and support for the safety of the school will not be compromised in any way shape or form that's that was the understanding so far we have had we have not had multiple conversations between ccpd and us but I'm planning to sit down with the intervention Chief partner with in the week to just kind of the pieces together and see how that how does that work so the mou need to come to the board because the current handle you is so damaging The Way It Was Written and so I don't I'm not going to like how this would turn out one way or the other but I'm hearing data and data turned City interaction between ccpd and and I'll swing over the years with his that look like broken down by gender by race ethnicity and the type of infractions how does that work and then the outcome there the diversion program how does we looking at you no possibility of non-uniform non arm and non K-9 search and strong language in this is DeeDee protocol for S4 body search as well as property search of students so information that would make it let me just put it that way that we would we need to bring back and then the survey of the of the students perceptions of the program is also will be pushed out and the DEA department will have the chance to go through the the the mou on our side and and strengthen the language in in a lot more operational and then what we have right now thank you for that because I just and that's why I'm saying like I didn't go through this work for you cuz I know that you there is work and engagement that needs to be done and just and just to reiterate for a republican for board members here that may have not seen this you're one of the other things that is a bullet point on here on this one page item is also investigate and enforced truancy matters with in Culver City and depend monthly local gang and that really means to me that the outdated we don't have like these are things like these truancy me monthly truancy meetings like this is not something that work that's in force right now and it's just outdated I do think that we will continue to have we we need to have continued to have a relationship with our police department and they are the ones that are that we rely on for emergencies we rely on them for guidance for our school safety plans and still you know if I do think that we do need to have something in a memorandum of understanding but the work needs to be done before we can really delve into this in a very intentional way after hearing from our from our folks so I would like to see this come back after all of that work has been done and I say I mean from what I understand is you know you had instructions from the last board and now it's coming before us because and you just confirm that because this is a new board and you're looking for a little like first initial reaction to that that that is correct thank you okay so yes I continue we can release this to the public and I think that also we need to look at this at this isn't necessarily like a pay contract but I would like to look at the way that we are trying to also systematized our contracts in terms of our our our check marks not all of that will be applicable but you know setting up expectation to have whatever that rubric is when we are looking at thank you very much before the next question I just want to take this out into the say that the current financing of disposition should it ever come to plays at the district does not have anything to do with the SRO salaries unemployment ccpd employee we we don't go share of any kind so just because I recall we did have a comment from the public tonight thank you yeah I think that I'm sharing if we can that the old ammo use is important because again isn't what he said it's it's awful and one of the things that the old model was very much the SRO getting involved in things on the campus I'm not getting involved in truancy getting involved in disciplinary issues getting involved in things on the campus to put the SRO at that point into conflict with the student and I think if you look at the language in the current one of the current draft it's really tried to address that I'm looking at Section 3 where it talks about going to responding to calls for service occurring on around school property and exercising law enforcement fiction over such an incident this isn't necessarily an officer sitting in the office or patrolling campus this is an officer whose responsibilities are the schools you know who's going to be going around I was looking at the list and one of those collars mentioned it 18 campuses because it's not just our campuses it's a number of private schools which is interesting I don't know if they've also got agreements with with the police department or if that's just we sign something and then it applies to all schools yeah I think number three to support a school administration and using restorative practices in addressing non violent criminal offenses that would probably be a challenge I don't know the training that the officer would have but I think it'd be great for the officer to be logged in in learning about restorative justice if that's not something that they bring with them from their traditional police training but I think the important word there to me is Criminal offenses and this is something that I heard doctor can't mention several times this again is not designed to be somebody who's you know dealing with the kid that talks back dealing with the kid whose ditch class not even dealing with fight because those don't rise to the level of a criminal type of of situation you know a fight is the responsibility of campus security it's the responsibility of the counselors in the principles and things like that this really is meant to come in where there is some type of suspected criminal activity or criminal offense and even then the nonviolent stuff is really supposed to default back to campus section 4 number to notify the SRO of suspected potential violent criminal activity I appreciate Section 5 down at the bottom no criminals non-criminal student Discipline matters shall remain. possibility of teachers and administrators not be a sorrow so again it is very clearly spells out the SRO is not supposed to be getting in the middle of of routine regular even a regular school type of situation to refrain from being involved in the enforcement of disciplinary rules and school policies that is not there all we have campus security and we have other folks to do that I did like you can't number one bsro she'll be in uniform understand that this person is an employee of the police department end and potentially could get called to handle other non-school matters so there's probably a minimum amount of uniform but I believe they're also can I get khakis and a polo shirt type of unit an official uniform but if possible I think that's a lot more appropriate for school time setting then tactical gear 5 and 8 book talk about the school administration will be no. if the answer is absent or reserves the right to to pull up the Estero temporarily I'd like to see something in there about you know what 24 hours notice or 12 you know just something about how how far in advance are going to let us know number section 7 Student Records that was brought up by a member of the public I think that one is problematic for me because you know I've seen situations where kids have gotten pictures you don't police have taken pictures of teenagers on the street or something and then they end up in kind of you flip through it till I've identified kids and it's a kid who didn't do anything other than walking on the street but suddenly there you know identifiable in a lineup type of a thing until I'm very concerned about Student Records being shared with the srl kind of like that you can't said unless there is a an actual criminal investigation or criminal threat or something like that at which point you know they've got access to whatever they have but I think we need to be very careful about the privacy of our student and that information just being shared for convenience sake and then just like several other people said I would absolutely really like to see regular and very specific data shared with us you know and I've seen some of the old ones that were shared with the board and it breaks it back out by race and gender and and age and things like that but it's over and then there's another column where it talks about different types of interactions was it in a burglary was it a noise complaint was it something like that you know I'd like to see that the Matrix you know are certain types of kids getting called for specific thing you know until it's because of our our intent is to make and keep an eye on these things but also to intervene to prevent these type of things knowing the types of inter who's getting certain types of interactions would be helpful so those are just kind of my my feedback on it from General we have an existing azzaro now currently operating under the old mou but they are operating kind of without guidance right now so it becomes very important to Define what that's going to be I'm and I think we're not perfect yet this is definitely a step forward and you know just kind of laying out about restorative practices can we request that whenever we have our safety officers during restorative justice that the SRO attend at least once a year to that there's a discussion on the Farragut mr. Ron active shooting training it's not mentioned here at all is I don't know the details about it but it was kind of brought up when during a PTA meeting that I attended and so I just want to know is that responsibilities of the SR roads are responsibilities of the school side what's what is that a safety plan requires that we collaborate and and cooperate with local law enforcement officers program to schedule regularly School school shooting activities in training and right now it is parked with director on chatting to coordinate that so it's a increase the district made a distinctive requirement is that the the training will not involve students so deeper than that I don't have to D-Town formation but we need to schedule off within are you next year the regular training for Shooters on campus and I'll bring that someone formation with a board on that one apparent don't do the AIDS the people who adults on campus so that dogs would have the training to guide the students what to do correct like I mentioned that the board the last time this conversation came at the board direction to me is to not involve all students in the in the shooting on shooter on campus training and unless I hear things differently that is the the way we've scheduled the training and I'll ccpd partners are more than willing to provide the training it's required by the it is part of the required components of the school safety plan that had to be approved by the board every year maybe each School site needs to identify this is something that they want right like how expensive that training is and how often maybe their needs like once the new School site councils or develop this is part of the first agendas that they discussed in often wind who receive this training I won't if I don't see in the mou in organizational structure like what if the fire chief is there and you know something like a big current happens what's the organizational structure of ccpd and fire and our site and like what is that look like who was calling the shots when an emergency happens like who determines that and and I think it's important to really have that because we've seen you know in a while. that this lack of organization or structure you know by the delayed the right if I made the the current School site. Texas school safety plan I believe already covers that in case of an incident what is the incident command would look like the S our program maybe I will look into how to bring back contacts in but it's not going to be a fool sing because it's already embedded in the in the school safety plan at the board approved I think it was last in the month of June and February in the school safety plan then we would somehow to memorialize that whether it is within the srom you or not that's something I need to find out for us to really review policy about sharing records with outside entities and see what is the policy around that because I feel that if it was up to me I would remove the whole section or at least be very clear on what are the things that are share and what things that are not share and who like who produces that report to them you know the last thing I want is for our records to just be open-ended for someone to come in and I did recall seeing and approve and Moana last year as I was working on this particular issue that was approved by and I can't I can't remember the district without any shared record at all but then that was at the time where perhaps immigration I'm thinking it could be like August 15th right the week before school starts and then I also think that these meetings are Noodle and going you know March and April just one meeting is it's too much of a gap especially because then we get the El Cap in all of these requirements that are mandated for us to get approved and it's just too much time between and so I'm I'm also recommending that we consider having a April 9th I share my humble prospective August 8th we could use that as a meeting August 8th instead of being a council meeting the I know I'm saying some do August 8th and April 9th should be restored to a regular regular reschedule me that I think we could use those two meetings and if we don't use them we , but once you cancel them it's hard to schedule them back on that's true too yeah but the what I'm saying is if we have these meetings except then we can be planning in advance and in and so when I set April 9th like a really was careful to pick them because I was like the last meeting is like March 12th so staff can have between the 12th and the 21st to put everything on board dogs have it set up there and when school starts you know do our meeting cuz it's almost two weeks that staff will have to prepare that meeting after recess and end do for me I'd rather work with half these are meeting that are set and that you have them and you work towards having these agendas by Friday posted done so that we're not last minute then for us doing Special meeting I don't want to do more special meetings I wanted to less special meeting and have on the books General meetings that week and really map the future and that's why I almost every meeting I'm going to our governance calendar I'm putting everything we've done so that we have a roadmap for next year and that we're working ahead of time not a day before going to be efficient next year I hope so I am thinking that the calendar right now we could we could put August 8th instead of a council to be a regular meeting that helps because I know the first the opening of school we do have a lot of things we need to put in place most importantly if we hire people doing the summer we need to improve their contracts and make sure that they are on board and BP even so on so forth and depending on the the spring break we could use April 9th as a regular for me so that that's what I would say it and then we could look at I'm asking the board to consider approving the count with modification restoring two of the council meeting to be regular schedule meeting making a short meeting inside detective acts the right Baxter spring break my I am wondering about spring recess and if we were to meet if I'm reading this spring recess is March 25th through through April 5th as if I'm reading this correctly and then we would have a meeting on the 9th I'm just thinking about open all of that canceled because a lot of people is on March 12th go to recess on March 21st so between the 12th to the individual capacity if that's what the body would agree with are the student concern I'm compelled by that and then at the very end you said something sort of in passing about an individual capacity that you would like to be changed or if that's something that we already have on the books that we have I'd like to see it amended and so you need to you would like to have that amended but also there's probably a cfda sample that you haven't seen yet. they serve you better I'm guessing current 1131 to a community relations if it is 115 in board policy 1150 commendations and awards 1150 when was that last updated so see if they has a sample from 2010 at least that it's 13 years old I will I will share that with you and you can you can make suggestions kid board member ghetto I'm open to the idea I'm not personally motivated by the individual ones I'd probably rather see it you do laundry of the board or something like that but you know I'm open to exploring it I think that for us to have a formal discussion on student recognition so I and I think that putting this item under board business is the wrong place I think it should be on whoever does the American citizenship that's where it should come from that office because they're the ones that organized those Awards and so if we're going to expand the words to students and needs to come through a department right it can't come from the board it comes through the department identify the students and then the students are brought to us and end for me I've attended a couple of of conferences where they're the boards are doing amazing work and green icing reclassification of English speakers and by literacy Awards and an you know we need to get there we need to really highlight different types of abilities and the diff did the different ethnic groups and and diversity and and everything that that Culver City is so I definitely 100% think we need to have a discussion around awards for now for individual staff for individual board members I'm having a lot of challenges around this because we are a Body & Sol as a body we like a legal said today if there isn't a discussion then the body cannot be mentioned right the body cannot say that it is coming from the body so if there's a dessert if it right now it is only signed by the superintendent the president and there's a reason for that because the body hasn't discussed that the body has indeterminate now if an individual to me an individual board member wants to print their own certificates and do these things I have no qualms for that with that I think it's important for that individual to recognize community members who they are building what I do have a problem is if we're using District staff were utilizing District staff District printers District time District you know all of these things and and it's in this is not coming from the board is coming from an individual I feel like that's really Crossing into some of our board policies that or protocols that say that we need to as a board decide how we're going to get our district stuff right so that we don't cost a burden to The District staff and asking for individual items are individual things that we want that perhaps another in the Jen. Perhaps having been brought up and so I and there's also board policy that talks about that no that District Services a resources should not be utilized to aggrandize any board member individual board member and so these are things that I'm considering I'm why an individual board member print something by our staff member is is problematic for me because of these different board bylaws and protocols that we've discussed but I think that if remember you know whoever wants to have an event and they want to print their certificates that they should be able to but it should not come at the expense of the district if the board is not directing this this action and I think we don't have to vote on it but that's where we I stand and I hope that we see in the near future awards for students and instead and an updated policy okay so I think for now we need to go to adjourn and that's a team program to return second by Isadora I was in favor say aye to the city of Culver City doctor has to stay here and be back at 6 in the morning we apologize and we're very grateful for you
