Educational Equity at CCUSD
Since the 2016 school year, the Culver City Unified School District has worked together with the school community to ensure that students, staff, and families feel physically, emotionally, and psychologically safe at all times. Initially known as the Inclusion, Respect and Diversity Task Force, the group is now known as the Equity Advisory Council (EAC) and works collaboratively to address equity issues that impact student learning.
Over this time, the EAC has been instrumental in connecting CCUSD families impacted by immigration enforcement with resources in the community, providing anti-bias professional development to CCUSD staff, as well as examining survey and achievement data to address barriers. For more information on the EAC, please click on the presentations to the CCUSD Board of Education, which highlight the group's work.
During the 2019-2020 school year, the committee worked with an external equity consultant to develop a framework for a districtwide Strategic Equity Plan. Stakeholders representing the diversity of our community engaged in a series of facilitated meetings that produced a multi-year, strategic equity plan that identified four key goals/priorities to guide future work in removing barriers to student success.
Beginning with the 2020-2021 school year, a newly formed EAC of 50 individuals representing staff, parent, student and community members began the work of implementing the action steps outlined in the plan.
